This might not be the area you're referring to, but hopefully it is. In order to get across the lava you will need to attack some bones holding a stone in place. The bones are situated to the right side of the save point, when you hit these bones they will either retract or get destroyed.

Once the stone is free, you will be able to jump onto it. Further down the lava pool will be a rock in the way, stopping the stone from floating down further. Attack this rock to destroy it, then stay on the floating stone until you are within grappling distance in order to cross the chasm.

The other lava area you may be speaking of is more straightforward to cross, simply jump/fly from platform to platform using the Icarus wings to glide further.
