Is there any difference between the games Dark Cloud 2 and Dark Chronicle?

Question for Dark Cloud 2

Is there any difference between the games Dark Cloud 2 and Dark Chronicle? Because I have Dark Chronicle and they both seem to be the same game.
If they are exactly the same why is there 2 different names for it?

Dark Chronicle is the japanese version.(or so I read)

In North-America it was released under the name of "Dark Cloud 2", but in Europe it's name is "Dark Chronicle", which is the original name. There are no big differences in the game or gameplay, however.

Does the Dark Cloud Demo disc cut out a lot of the Regular game?
