Game Reviews for X-Men: Mutant Academy

Finally I hear you cry, a 3-D X-men game. Even better, you say it's tied in with the film as well. WRONG. yes it WAS a good game, but that's only if it had been made a couple of years ago.

The graphics are quite good, with the characters being as big and bright as we expect but sadly no more than that.

The moves are now stale with intrinsicly the same move having a different animation for each character.

Is it too much to ask from Capcom than a game that is something other than streetfighter with a different name! I mean even streetfighter two has more than ten characters.

On the plus side, The characters are well detailed and there's no lag in movement.

As soon as you perform a move it's there on screen, a problem that a few beat 'em ups still sadly have!

The movie tie-in will undoubtedly be the main selling point of the game and the programmers have catered for this by giving the gamer all the movie suits.

Also in there are the clips and trailers from the movie and they're actually very good.

They do partially make up for the lame ending sequences for the actual characters (although that's just a minor gripe as beat 'em ups rarely do have anything decent at the end as there's such a variety of endings to cater for!).

Overall, a good game the fan's of the X-men series will buy regardless of quality or quantity.

It's still a worthy beat 'em up but there are several (much) better ones out there.

7 out of 10

Rent the film, better and cheaper than getting this using it as a frisbee!
