GUIDE INFO
==========

Basically, this FAQ provides information on the many changes that the
hard mode makes in the missions. It is not a walkthrough. Just a guide
to the hot points where the hard mode effects are significant.

This guide is mainly for experts or those who are familiar enough to
take on the hard mode. You'll know when you're ready if you've played
the game atleast three times and without cheats.

============
INTRODUCTION
============

Syphon Filter. No doubt one of the best games out there despite it
being called a Metal Gear Solid rip-off. Syphon Filter has changed the
way I look at action games for they have breathed new life onto the
genre. The controls are smooth and the storyline is excellent. I
usually trash any action game I play after two weeks but this one is
hard to put down. So hard that the hard mode became a joke. The game,
like any other, has flaws but the way the game tells its story makes
you forget it all.

The release of Syphon Filter 2 was a treat for it spans onto not one
but two discs packed with excellent FMV's and non-stop action and
stealth infiltrations that will leave you gagging for more. The new
two-player mode was also a nice surprise but the big enhancer to it
all is the need to unlock the various secrets that it keeps and the
only way to get it is to complete certain tasks by using certain
methods. It's like side-quests in an RPG. You will find yourself
trying over and over again to unlock everything so be rest assured,
you won't find yourself putting the game down anytime soon.

Well enough of my ramblings. I'm sure you know all about it just as
well as I do. On with the show!

=============
THE HARD MODE
=============

To access the hard mode, highlight "NEW GAME" and press:

up + select + L1 + R2 + [] + O + X

If done correctly, you should hear a soft beep and when you enter a
mission, it will say 'PLAYING ON HARD DIFFICULTY' at the bottom.

The hard mode provides an extra challange to those who feel they are
"too good" for the usual methods. I found myself playing like a newbie
during the first few attempts so watch it. Here's a list of what the
hard mode changes:

-More enemies
-Smarter enemies
-Deadlier enemies (better aiming, more snipers)
-Different patrol routes
-Going into manual-aim mode does not automatically put you in a
 headshot length
-No headshot indicator

One things for sure, it provides more realism. Just make sure you are
ready and don't treat this like a walk in the park. It won't leave you
much time to catch your breath.

Okay so you must be wondering what the fuss is. Hard mode does more
than swell your head and make your buddies go "ooh ahh". By finishing
the game on hard, unlocks four special movies in the cinematics level
that is definately worth seeing.

On disc 1, you can unlock: BEHIND THE SCENES I & II

These movies show you the original looks from the beta version of the
first game. If you ask me, thank God they changed thier minds.

On disc 2, you can unlock: DELETED SCENES & PARTY TIME

The first movie shows the FMVs that were cut from the final version of
the game and the second is a really treat for all fans. Every major
character dancing in Club 32!

TIPS
====

-LEAN
Not many people seem to know that you can lean. It is a life saver as
it can take out enemies without putting yourself at risk. To lean:
*Go into manual aim mode
*Press left strafe to lean left and right strafe for right lean

-MANUAL AIMING
When given the space, you should always manual aim and go for a
headshot. It saves alot of ammo. You need to be quick though so make
sure you've got lots of training.

-ROLLING
You can avoid gunshots by rolling at the right moment. By rolling off
a ledge also speeds up your fall recovery. Just remember to keep
running before you roll. If you stop, then you won't be able to do
a fast recovery.
