I. THE PLOT
------------

For nine generations, the Mortal Kombat tournament was ruled by the
Outworld's finest warrior, Prince Goro. It was agreed that if the Outworld
could claim victory in 10 consecutive tournaments, it would then rule the
Earth. With the Earth on the brink of destruction, a new generation of
warriors gathered and claimed victory.
With victory in hand, warrior monk, Liu Kang, had now become the new
champion. But his victory was short lived. He and his comrades were lured
into the Outworld to compete in a second tournament.
But Liu Kang and his comrades discovered an evil deception. The
tournament was merely a diversion devised by the Dark Emperor, Shao Kahn,
to break the rules set forth by the Elder Gods. The Dark Emperor would
witness the reincarnation of his former Queen, Sindel. This unholy act
gave Shao Kahn the power to step through the dimensional gates to reclaim
his Queen and seize control of the Earth
This trilogy of events comprises Shao Kahn's final attempt at taking
control the Earth.

II. BASIC MOVES
----------------

High Punch : High Punch
Low Punch : Low Punch
High Kick : High Kick
Low Kick : Low Kick
Block : Block
Run : Run
Uppercut : Down + High Punch
Crouching Punch: Down + Low Punch
Crouching Kick : Down + Low Kick
Foot Sweep : Back + Low Kick
Roundhouse : Back + High Kick
Jump Punch : Flip + Punch
Jump Kick : Flip + Kick
Hop Punch : Press Punch just as you push the joystick in the flip
             position.
Hop Kick : Press Kick just as you push the joystick in the flip
             position.

Turning Punch : Leap over the opponent. When you pass their head, press
a Punch button. The character will turn around and punch
             at the opponent.

Turning Kick : Leap over the opponent. When you pass their head, press
a Kick button. The character will turn around and kick
             at the opponent.

Death Punch : Also referred to as the Heavy Punch. Rumored to be just
a glitch, it does appear in ALL three Mortal Kombats. To
perform the Death Punch, do a standing punch just as the
opponent is jumping into you. If connected just right,
the Death Punch could take off as much energy as an
             uppercut.

Finishing Move Placement

Close : Right next to the opponent. If you try to move any closer,
                          you would move the opponent.
Sweeping Distance: Not next to the opponent, but if you tried a foot sweep you
                          would trip the opponent.
Jumping Distance : Can't foot sweep the opponent, but it's the distance if you
jumped away from close range. It's about 1/2 the scr
een in length.
Full Screen : As it says, the opponent is on one side of the screen, you
                          are at the other side.

There are other places: One step away from the opponent, just outside of sweep
Distance, 3/4 of the screen. But these are rare, so they get explained in the
Moves section with their particular finishing move.

III. A "RUN" BUTTON?
---------------------

By far the newest part of the MK trilogy would have to be the 'Run'
button. As you would expect, the Run button makes the opponent run. How
is it useful, then? By running, you will reduce the amount of turtling
from the other player. The opponent will have to think of something else
to do, especially if you run, jump over them, then do a turning kick, and
repeat the process. Plus, by running, you can reach the other character and
perform a combo before they have time to do a move. Basically, the Run
button is something of a scare tactic.

IV. FINISHING MOVES
--------------------

Fatalities
----------

The most memorable part of a Mortal Kombat battle is the Fatality.
The Fatalities in MK3 seem to be tamer than its predecessors(problems with
the AAMA???) To perform a Fatality, you must win the match, then do the
proper joystick/button sequence when "Finish Him!" or "Finish Her!" appears.

Mercies
--------

If a player wants to give someone another chance to fight, or more
time to be pummeled, a player can show mercy on them.

To do a mercy: 1. Win on the third round.
                2. Perform the following joystick/button movements:
Hold Run(Down - Down) and release.

Animalities
-----------

What was once a rumor in MK2 has become a reality on MK3. The
winning character will turn into an animal and attack the opponent.

To do an Animality: 1. Perform a Mercy on the opponent.
                     2. Defeat them again.
                     3. Perform the proper joystick/button movements.

Stage Fatality
--------------

Stage Fatality: Instead of killing your opponent yourself, you do
something to them that corresponds with the stage you are fighting on.
the following stages have stage fatalities: The Pit, The Kombat Tomb, The
Dead Pool, The Pit III, The Subway, The Bell Tower, and Scorpion's Lair.
The Pit is the only stage where you only have to uppercut your opponent
to perform the Stage Fatality. All other stages require you to perform
the movements that correspond with that particular character.
The Pit finds the victim falling off the ledge that they fought on onto
a bed of spikes. The Kombat Tomb will have them fly up onto a bed of
spikes on the ceiling. The Dead Pool has the victim falling into a pool
of acid. In the Pit III the losing opponent is knocked of into rotating
blades and cut apart. On the Subway, the opponent is uppercutted into the
far tracks where they are hit by an oncoming train. On the Bell Tower, the
opponent falls seven stories onto a bed of spikes. On Scorpion's Lair, the
opponent is knocked into a pool of lava.

Babalities
----------

Yes, the Babalities are back. Instead of killing the opponent, you
turn them into a baby.

Friendships
-----------

If Babalities weren't enough, the Friendships are back as well.
Instead of killing them, you do something nice. Shao Kahn is hilarious
here as he says, "(Name) wins! Friendship! FRIENDSHIP? Again?"

Brutalities
-----------

Remember the Ultra Combo in Killer Instinct. Well, welcome to Mortal
Kombat's Ultra Combo. To perform a Brutality, you must perform a ten-hit
combo near the end of defeating your opponent for the second time. The
screen will turn black, Fatality music will play, and the opponent will
get hit a few more time, then explode.

Joystick/Button Movements
-------------------------

In MK1, finishing moves were completed by first doing a joystick
movement (ex. Forward - Forward), then finishing off with a button (ex.
High Punch). In MK2, players not only had to perform finishing moves
with a joystick movement first and then a button, but also players had to
'charge' up a button with a joystick movement. Charging up a button
means holding the button for a certain amount of time and/or performing a
joystick movement (ex. Hold Low Kick (Forward-Forward-Down-Forward) then
release Low Kick). In, MK3, Midway has gone out in left field. Not only
are there the two types of finishing move styles as listed above, but now
there is button sequencing. This means that there are some finishing
moves that require a sequence of button presses to complete it (ex.
Run-Run-Block-Run-Block). Then, there is a style in which you press the
joystick in a direction and then do a button combination, or a button
combination and then a joystick movement (ex. Run-Run-Run-Up).

V. SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST
------------------------------

Game Selection
--------------

When starting Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the CD games, you are first given t
hree choices of game play: Mortal Kombat, 2 on 2 Endurance, and 8-Man Tourname
nt. Mortal Kombat is just that: One on one fighting. 2 on 2 Endurance is ju
st like the endurance matches in MK1, when the first character is
defeated, the second one jumps in and takes over. The 8-Man Tournament,
as it states, it's a tournament of eight characters, fighting one round
each. You lose a round, that's it!
For the Nintendo 64 Version, you have Mortal Kombat, 2 on 2 Endurance,
3 on 3 Endurance, and 8-Man Tournament. 3 on 3 Endurance is just like 2 on 2
Endurance, except with three kombatants.
For the one-player tournament, you have four towers to choose
from. They are: Novice, Warrior, Master, and Champion. On Novice, you
fight one to one with four kombatants, then fight one endurance match and
classic match with Goro before Motaro and Shao Kahn. On Warrior, you fight
six kombatants and one endurance match. The first Master level gives you
seven kombatants and one endurance match. The Champion level gives you
seven kombatants, one endurance, the battle with Motaro, and then a second
endurance match.

N64 ONLY: Since Goro is not in the N64 version, the Novice tower is
different. If anyone can tell me what that is...I would be eternally
grateful.

Stage Selection
---------------

To choose what stage you would like to play on, highlight Sonya on
the selection screen and press Up + Start.

Endurance Matches
-----------------

Love them or hate them, the endurance matches from MK1 are back. An
endurance match is where you fight two kombatants, one after the other.
You have to defeat them in one round with only one bar of energy while
they both start out fresh. On the Champion level, however, the second
endurance match finds you fighting three kombatants.

Winning the Game
----------------

"You have discovered the lost treasures of Shao Kahn. Choose your
reward wisely."

When you finish Mortal Kombat Trilogy, you have a choice of twelve
icon boxes to choose from. This is what each box does:

Box 1: Character's ending
Box 2: Fight Chameleon
Box 3: MK1 classic endurance kombat
Box 4: MK2 classic endurance kombat
Box 5: Random Prize
Box 6: Fatality Demo 1
Box 7: Fatality Demo 2
Box 8: Fatality Demo 3
Box 9: Super Endurance Kombat
Box 10: Battle w/ Shokan Champions
Box 11: Mega Endurance Kombat
Box 12: Supreme Fatality (Unfortunately, this was taken form UMK3, so that
means those characters are the only ones portrayed.)

How you get to choose your reward depends on what game you play.
Novice only allows you access to the first four icons. Warrior gives you
the first seven. The first Master level gives you eleven. Finally, winning
the 8-man tournament or completing the Champion tower gives you access to
all twelve icons.

          N64 INFO ONLY

An actual plus for Nintendo 64. You get TWENTY FOUR icons to choose
from. Accessibility depends on which game you play. You will get
all 24 only if you beat the Special Champion level.

Box 1: Character Endings
Box 2: Galaga
Box 3: MK1 Classic Endurance Kombat
Box 4: MK2 Classic Endurance Kombat

Special Champion Tower (N64 ONLY)
To get the 24th box, you must place your selection square on Kano
and then press Down + Start. This is the kode that turns the Champion
Tower into a fight with Khameleon, Motaro, 8 Endurance Matches, then the
final battle with Shao Kahn. You must finish the game this way, and *ONLY*
this way, to get the 24th Box.

Green Question Mark
-------------------

Go to the OPTIONS screen and hold Up+Block+Run

N64: Unknown

Chameleon/Khameleon
-------------------

Cool, another new character. Yeah, right. This character, depending
on your system, is a constantly changing ninja. On the CD games(Sony
Playstation, Sega Saturn, PC-CD ROM) you get Chameleon, who every ten
seconds morphs into a different ninja. On the Nintendo 64, you get
Khameleon, who every ten seconds morphs into one of the three female
ninjas.

CD VERSION

To play as Chameleon : Choose any male ninja. Just before the round
starts, hold away form the opponent + Block + Run + High Punch + High Kick.
Shao Kahn will say, "Chameleon". You will have whatever ninja's moves
Chameleon is impersonating at that time.

Nintendo 64 VERSION

To fight Khameleon : There are a few ways to do this.

1. Hold Down + Start when Dan Forden appears on the Pit II stage.
2. Do the Extra Endurance Kode and pick the Champion Tower

Stages
------

Here is a brief summary of the stages and their order of appearance.

The Subway

Underground in a subway station. Far wall has Boon/Tobias as
destination points. If a character is uppercutted, they will fly up to
the street. This stage also has a Stage Fatality.

The Street

Above the Subway. The Street has papers occasionally flying by.
Shao Kahn's fortress is in the background.

Jade's Desert

This is Jade's personal stage. A vast wasteland of dirt covering
buildings. If you look at the far left corner, you'll see a
malfunctioned Cyrax!

The Bank

inside of a bank. Shao Kahn's fortress is visible in the far windows.
The MK dragon is on the floor. If a character is uppercutted, they will
fly up to the Rooftop.

The Soul Chamber

Orange colored stage. The center has a demon's head with it's mouth
wide open. Inside the mouth are the souls of humanity. Shao Kahn's
shadow priests adorn the room. If a character is uppercutted, they will
fly up to the Balcony.

The Bridge

The sky is yellow in this stage as the kombatants battle on a deserted
bridge. Papers occasionally fly by. Buildings are on either side.

The Balcony

Directly above the Soul chamber. This is the stage where you fight
Motaro. The walls are green with the top of the Soul Chamber itself
visible in the background. Stone centaurs align the sides of the balcony.

The Bell Tower

Wooden bell tower. The moon is visible in the background. This
stage has a Stage Fatality

The Temple

Looks like the inside of a Church. Back wall has the MK dragon in a
stained glass window. The room also has an alter with a red cloth with
the MK dragon on it. On top of the cloth are two goblets.

The Graveyard

Cemetery with the moon visible in the background. four front
tombstones are the design team (ex. Boon, Tobias, Forden) since there
are seven members to the team, the tombstones randomly change each time
you fight on the Graveyard.

The Pit III

Another incarnation of the first Stage Fatality. Far left has the
entrance to the Pit. Fat right has Shao Kahn's throne. In the middle
are floating green lamps. This is the stage where you fight Shao Kahn
in the final battle. This stage also has a Stage Fatality.

Waterfront

A river separates the Kombatants from the city on the other side.
The Kombatants fight on a ledge next to the water.

Scorpion's Lair

This is Scorpion's own personal stage. Columns of skulls align the
place, and lave covers the ground. Kombatants fight on a ledge much like
the dead pool. If you uppercut your opponent, they will fly up to The
Cavern. This Stage also has a Stage Fatality. Try this: After doing
the Stage fatality, hold both Run buttons. Shao Kahn will say, "Crispy!"
Or this: Hold High Punch after the uppercut. Dan Forden will pop out
and say, "Crispy!" You have a choice. :)

The Cave

The Emperor sits on his throne far away on this stage. An enormous
red gargoyle hovers over the throne.

The Rooftop

Rooftop of the Bank. Shao Kahn's fortress is in the background.
Stone Gargoyles align the edge of the roof.

Lost

The sky is blue, the Kombatants fight on the same ledge as the Pit III.
A huge portal is in the background. Plus, there are mountains and another
ledge in the background much like the Pit II in MK2.

The Armory

Kahn's Arena

Wasteland

The Living Forest

The Portal

The Kombat Tomb

Fighting behind an orange sky inside a tomb of fallen warriors. Creatures
,
either dragons or pterodactyls, fly across the screen in the background.
STAGE FATALITY: The opponent is uppercutted onto spikes on the ceiling.
SPECIAL TRICK: Hold down on both controllers and the opponent will slip off
The spikes.

Tower

The Dead Pool

The kombatants are fighting on a small walkway in an enclosed room.
on either side of the walkway is a pool of green acid.
STAGE FATALITY: The winner will knock his opponent into the acid, where
they resurface as only a skeleton.
SPECIAL TRICK: Hold down on both controllers as the opponenet resurfaces and
You will hear, "Ow-muh!"

The Pit II

The second of the Pit stages. Once again fighting with a full moon
in the distance, the kombatants are on a small blue bridge. A second
bridge is in the background. Unfortunately, the stage fatality does
not work on Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

Kung Fu Part I

In the original MK, this zone was referred to as 'The Courtyard'.
The kombatants fight while an audience of Shaolin monks watch on. In
the back atop a throne, sits the Emperor.

Goro's Lair

The famous battlezone when fighting the Mortal Kombat champion. A
dark dungeon with many tunnels. Chained skeletons adorn the walls and
piercing yellow eyes are in the tunnels.

The Pit

The one that started the whole Pit craze. With a full moon in the
air, the kombatants fight over a small bridge. Finishing the opponent
with an uppercut will cause them to fall off the bride and onto spikes
below.

Pit Bottom

As the title states, you're fighting at the bottom of the Pit.
Spikes adorn the floor, with severed heads and body parts everywhere.
(Useless information: In the original MK, you would fight Reptile here.)

IX. CHARACTER ENDINGS
----------------------

(NOTE: If you relish playing Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the sole purpose of
reading the endings of a particular character...THEN FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T
READ THIS SECTION!! It's nothing but the endings. Erase it! Use it for
kindling! It makes a great fondue! Use the paper as a shammy for your
car! Just don't read it!)

Baraka : Richard Divizio

When Baraka's failure to apprehend several Earth warriors nearly
results in Shao Kahn's demise, the nomad finds himself fearing for his
own life. He falls out of favor with his Emperor, and realizes that it's
only a matter time before Kahn enacts revenge. Baraka remains loyal until
the opposition from the Earth Realm has been defeated. With Kahn in a
weakened state from his battle with Raiden, Baraka strikes. The despondent
Emperor is no match for Baraka's attack. Then, fearing reprisal from those
loyal to Kahn, Baraka escapes back into nomadic ruins from which he came.

Johnny Cage : Chris Alexander

With his nearly deceased soul restored, Johnny Cage finds himself
against the extermination squads that took his life. But during the battle,
Cage learns that if they win against Kahn, his soul will again be deceased
when Earth reverts back to normal. Knowing this, the movie star embarks on
a one way mission to destroy Shao Kahn. His determination fuels his fellow
warriors as they embark on one final onslaught against the evil Emperor.
The Earth warriors emerge victorious and the realms revert back to their
normal state, Cage bids farewell to his comrades as his soul leaves to a
higher place.

Classic Sub-Zero : John Turk

Having been killed in the first tournament, Sub-Zero somehow seems to
have emerged to win the third tournament. However, upon removing his mask
both the Outworld and the Earth-born warriors are shocked to discover the
true identity of this warrior. A warrior who has long been missing from a
previous Mortal Kombat, and one who will return in the fourth tournament.

Cyrax : Sal Divita

Cyrax is captured by Sub-Zero and reprogrammed with new orders: to
destroy Shao Kahn. With Kahn unable to detect his assassin's souless
presence, Cyrax delivers a successful sneak attack. However, after
eliminating Kahn and saving Earth, Cyrax awaits new orders from his Lin
Kuei headquarters. The orders never come and Cyrax malfunctions. He
ends up stranded in the middle of a vast desert, blindly heading toward
his base.

Ermac : John Turk

When Kahn finally eliminates his opposition, he finds a new and
surprising foe in Ermac. The Outworld souls that give life to the warrior
did not trust their tyrannical leader who planned to consume the powerful
life force for his own power. Even Shao Kahn's power was no match for the
overwhelming strength of legions of deceased Outworld warriors. They
destroyed their master in a battle that devastated the entire realm. Ermac
was left behind to rule it with his own brand of oppression.

Human Smoke : John Turk

Before his transformation into a cybernetic ninja, Smoke was one of
the Lin Kuei's finest ninjas. It was during this time that he came to know
his greatest ally - Sub-Zero. When the Lin Kuei decided to automate their
warriors, the two attempted to escape. While Sub-Zero successfully eluded
capture, Smoke did not. He would become a robotic nightmare, his soul
trapped inside a living machine. In his human form Smoke was a fierce
warrior. In his mechanical body he is even more lethal. But his true form
is that of a human, one he'll know again only in dreams.

Sindel against the Emperor Shao Kahn. With Sindel removed as an enemy,
Jade finds herself facing the Emperor in combat. She defeats him and both
Earth and her former homeland of Edenia are transformed to their original
states. Jade has earned herself a place alongside the great heroes of
Mortal Kombat.

Jax : John Parrish

The second time Jax battles the forces of Shao Kahn he
comes prepared. Thought to be the strongest man on Earth, he has no
problem proving it: First by beating Kahn's armies and then by defeating
the Emperor himself. When the world reverts back to normal, Jax and
Sonya start the Outerworld Investigation Agency. Jax runs the
exploratory division which learns to open portals through science rather
than magic. He leads the first expedition into a mysterious new realm.

Kabal : Richard Divizio

After returning from near death, Kabal swears revenge against his
attackers. He fights alongside the other Earth warriors. When he
defeats Motaro and the mighty Shao Kahn he proves that he truly is the
chosen one. Before the invasion, Kabal lived a life of crime. He was
once a member of the Black Dragon alongside Kano. Now Kabal devotes his life
to fighting injustice. He will give crime's inner circles a new reason
to fear.

Kano : Richard Divizio

When Shao Kahn lets Kano live he fails to realize the
resourcefulness of the scheming human. Kano lures Kahn's armies away on
a false mission: then nukes them using a stolen weapon. He fights the
remaining warriors and finally defeats Kahn himself. Kano's true
intention is to take over the souls which Kahn once possessed. But Kano

saved the world he tried to conquer.

unknown regions of Earth. She survives an assassination attempt by the
vile creature Reptile and allies herself with her one time comrade - Jade.

turns the Queen against her Emperor. With Shao Kahn defeated, the Earth is
transformed back to its original state as is Kitana's realm of Edenia.

realm of Edenia at Queen Sindel's side.

in the name of his great ancestor - the original Kung Lao. He emerges
victorious but suffers from injuries during battle with Kahn. Believed
to have passed away, Kung Lao joins his ancestors in a new life.

and thanks for saving the Earth and the Outworld.

place called the Netherealm. She accepts servitude to an all mighty god
known as Shinnok. It is Shinnok who allows her soul to be reborn. On
the Outworld, her loyalty to Shao Kahn is replaced by her fear of Shinnok.
Mileena plots to overthrow her own father. The ability to read Kitana's
mind and predict the Earth warriors motives enables Mileena to set up her
father's downfall. When Kahn is weakened by the onslaught of attacks,
Mileena takes the opportunity to destroy her father and allow Shinnok to
step forward and take both realm for his own sinister purposes.

Nightwolf : Sal Divita

Nightwolf helps the other Earth warriors escape to his sacred land.
Once there, they regroup and plan a form of attack against Shao Kahn's
invasion. Nightwolf has trained hard for this battle. Finally, he faces

want him to join Kahn's battle to gain his trust and to gain entrance into
the Earth Realm. When Kahn drops his guard, Noob Saibot is ordered to
attack. With both the Earth Realm and the Outworld's Emperor defeated, the

fouling Kahn's plots. He guides the chosen Earth warriors into battle
against the Outworld Emperor's armies, then finally faces Kahn himself.
The powerful beings fight until the very core of the Earth is shaken, and
Raiden emerges victorious.

Rain : John Turk

Rain fights valiantly for the Emperor, Shao Kahn. But it would be
Kahn's own step daughter, the Princess Kitana, who turns Rain against him.
Like Kitana, Rain's origins also come form their former realm of Edenia.
He learns that his father was once a general in Edenia's army and died
at the hands of Shao Kahn himself. Enraged at the truth about his history,
he joins Kitana in aligning with the Earth Realm warriors. But his
allegiance comes under question when he mysteriously disappears during an
extermination squad attack. To prove his loyalty, he embarked on a suicide
mission to destroy Shao Kahn and end the menace once and for all.

form the Outerworld Investigation Agency, devoted to protecting the Earth
against possible future invasions from other realms.

Kurtis Stryker : Michael O'Brien

Ignorant of why his soul was spared from the Outworld invasion,
Stryker receives a vision from Raiden. He is instructed to travel
west. He eventually meets the rest of Earth's warriors and learns the
true meaning of his survival. He travels back to the city he swore to
protect. Kahn is unfamiliar with this new kombatant and is caught off
guard. Stryker defeats the warlord and saves the entire planet. The

He finds his third Lin Kuei assassin - the elusive Smoke. Before

his past and regains him as an ally once again. Sub-Zero defeats his
cyborg assassins with the help of Smoke and finds it takes all of his own
inner strengths to defeat Kahn and his Outworld minions. The former
ninja once again disappears into the shadows, his legacy known only by a
select few.
