All the stuff in clouds past zack actually did. Sephiroth gave zack a cut and zack was beaten. Cloud was actually there in nibelheim. He was the shinra soldier that didnt get lost, said sephiroth is different, and was carsick. He went to sephiroth and on his way zack said: Go get him.. Cloud... And cloud and sephiroth were fighting at the bridge where tifas dad died.

(I forget how it ended up there) and sephiroth stabbed cloud in the gut!! O_O and then tried to drop him off the sword into the big mako pool below them. This did not work. Cloud was way too strong(I HAVE NO IDEA HOW, IF ANYONE KNOWS PLEASE AOL INSTANT MESSANGER ME AT Gohan7601.)

Cloud moved sephiroth and his sword to the end of the bridge(gut still impaled by masamune), pulled the masamune out, and dropped sephiroth and the masamune. This is how sephiroth died.
