A hotkey is a function that can be done with the keyboard, that you usually would do with the mouse in the menu screen. A shortcut key is a letter that you press while you have control of a unit or building. What the shortcut keys do is they do a command without you clicking on them. For instance. You can click on a unit or building and if there is anything that you can build, upgrade, train etc. Move the mouse where the button is the upgrade or build and look at the bottom of the screen it should say how much and what you intend to build/upgrade. And it should be written in white, if the letter is yellow then that is the shortcut key for that function. TIP #1 Hotkeys & Shortcut keys are a effective way to do a function better than the mouse. TIP #2 Hotkeys are made to make things easier and sometimes more effective. TIP #3 Hotkeys are mainly for in game shortcuts, so that you can get to the menu screen faster than moving the mouse and clicking at the top left corner of the screen.
