You may ask what a hotkey is and what it does. A hotkey is a combo of keys on the keyboard that do a function that usually the mouse would do with clicking on the button or icon. A shortcut key is just a way to be lazy or effective. Like for example if you have a footman and you have a whole bunch of archers shooting at you and you want to activate the defend ability just press "D" and it will activate the defend ability.
