FAQ complete. ============================== 200: FAQ Explained \ =============================================================================== Welcome to my TitanFall FAQ. As the name suggests, this is a Smart Pistol MK5 guide covering usage tips and strategies. As controversial as it is, Smart Pistol usage is not a walk in the park as opposite to what some may say. I have tried to cover as much as I am aware of so feel free to share tips and corrections. Enjoy. ====================== 300: Weapon Info \ =============================================================================== "The Smart Pistol scans for hostile targets within a short range, locking onto them automatically. Any rounds fired will then maneuver to hit the locked targets. Aiming with the iron sights allows the operator to use the pistol in manual targeting mode." In-game description. Weapon Class: Primary Weapon Weapon Type: Handgun Damage 67 (Pilot-Locked) 50 (Pilot-Not Locked) 100 (Grunt) 101 (Spectre) 40 - 10 (Titan) 200 (Rodeo) Rate of Fire 480 RPM Range 20-29m Recoil low Fire Mode Semi-automatic (When ADS) Smart 1-5 round burst (when locked on) Reload Time: 1.49s (Empty) Damage Multipliers: None Clip Size: 12 18 (Extended Magazine) Maximum Ammunition: 108 Used by: Pilots The Smart Pistol MK5 is a primary weapon available from the start of the game. Unlikely any other weapon, it aims automatically on anything that moves including Titans and Grenades making it seem overpowered when its not. It takes 3 locks to kill a pilot, 2 on Spectres and single lock on Grunts. It takes up to 0.65 seconds to lock on a Pilot and way less on anything else; Spectres, 0.35 and 0.2 seconds to lock on to Grunts. Further adjustments can be made covered later in the FAQ. To lock on targets you will have to aim on it until full locks complete and the target turns red meaning instant death. It can take less lock time when the target is already wounded. If the target enters a building, goes behind a wall or simply out of sight the shots will fail. It also takes double the time to lock on cloaked Pilot or if the Pilot clocks while locking, the lock will break and you will have to start over. The reload time is not that bad but considering the auto firing you will need to reload once you take out a large number of targets (up to 5). When manually aiming, the weapon drops the auto lock on system and instead fire normally like any other handgun taking 4 hits to kill a Pilot. _______________________________________________________________________________ '-- 310: Against Pilots-------------------------------------------------------' . Using this weapon against Pilots meaning vs Human which also means that unlikely the AI, they wont simply stand still or walk into your line of locking. Likely a few strategies will help you get better. . Use the openness: Most of the maps have considerable open space meaning obstacle free locking. Now of course Im not suggesting standing in the middle while locking on incoming target, instead stay out of sight or even behind the target but not far as the locking will fail. Hiding behind a tree or small wall waiting for the right moment to lock. . Use the roofs: Roofs and Smart Pistols go hand in hand in Titanfall. Not only will standing on the roof of a house will make you harder to detect or even hit, it will give you a more combatable locking on the target bellow. With the right timings and staying out of sight you will land an opportunity to take your target down before he knows it. . Use Arc Grenades: Throwing an Arc Grenade will blind the target for a few seconds if caught in the blast giving you a golden opportunity to lock on. Best used on Pilots. . Use the chaos: Use the chaos to your advantage; Pilots battling each other or grunts will rarely notice you provided you stay reasonable out of sight so take the opportunity when your target is engaging with another opponent. . Take the drop ship opportunity: When you win the round, remaining enemy Pilots will try to escape by drop ship most likely waiting at the evacuation zone; take the opportunity to lock on running Pilots or the unaware ones waiting for the ship. . Dont be afraid to disengage. If the Pilot notices you, run. Dont try to lock while in danger unless there is no other option in that case use the manual aiming for better chances. . Try locking on Pilots on top of Titans. They will be too busy attacking the Titan and will most likely not notice you. . When both you and an enemy Pilot are in the air due to many reasons like Titan ejects, auto aim the pilot for the kill as it is harder to aim in the air when using a normal weapon and you will most likely take him down. . Map advantages: Learn each maps hideouts and buildings. Best practice is to fire from a window or a rooftop. To summarize it all, take cover when needed behind walls and inside buildings. Dont lock on on Pilot who notice, instead get out of sight immediately. Keep moving preferably on rooftops but watch out for snipers and Titans. Take out group of minions for faster Titan drop. Solving the long distance dilemma For balance reasons, the Smart Pistol MK5 is not effective against long distance Pilots. The best strategy is to kill a grunt and pickup his weapon as a secondary gun which will most likely be the R-101C Carbine. Switch to yournew secondary weapon whenever the enemy is far or is engaging with you directly. Finding and picking a Shotgun will come handful in close combat as you will most likely outclass another weapon in close combat. You can also fire on grenades to instant explode them. Very useful when throwing a grenade and exploding it as soon as it lands near the target cutting the needed escape time from your enemy Pilot. _______________________________________________________________________________ '-- 320: Against Minions/Titans ----------------------------------------------' Minions locking take less time and danger. A single lock will kill Grunts and 2 locks on the rest. You can easily lock on 5 grunts while on the roof as soon as they get dropped or take out mixed group of enemies with ease cutting time for a Titan drop. When in need of a titan, concentrate on the minions and leave the Pilots alone. Take a group out and hide. Repeat until Titan is ready. Taking out Titans is a whole different thing. Throw an arc grenade on a Titan to confuse it and jump on it for a chance to fire a few manual rounds and take off once the electric smoke is released. You can also fire a few shots, jump off while the enemy Pilot ejects from the titan to investigate and take him down. Firing directly at titans is not recommended nor effective. _______________________________________________________________________________ '-- 330: Weapon Mods ---------------------------------------------------------' Like any other weapon in Titanfall, weapons can be modified for better targeting or less noise. Enhanced Targeting: This mod increases Smart Pistol's lock-on speed and increases its target acquisition range, at the expense of a smaller targeting area. Unlock after completing challenge Top Gun (II) Challenge: Kill 15 Pilots. Extended magazine: This mod increases the ammo capacity of the weapon, making it so that you dont have to reload as often. Unlock after completing challenge Machine War (III) Challenge: Kill 50 Spectres. Mod suppressor: This mod reduces the firing noise and muzzle flash of the weapon, making it ideal for taking your enemies by surprise. Unlock after completing challenge If It Moves... (II) Challenge: Kill 25 Enemies. Overall, the Enhanced Targeting is the best setting for this weapon as it cuts sometime of Pilot locking saving you that extra needed second to get the kill. _______________________________________________________________________________ '-- 340: Weaknesses Scenarios ------------------------------------------------' As overpowered as it seems, this weapon can be a nightmare in some scenarios. . Dont engage inside small spaces or houses. Small spaces means less room to move and better chance for your enemy to take you down considering it is the weakest weapon in close combats. . Never stay still while locking on targets. Always move around and jump but be careful not to break the lock. Standing still opens you for a counter attack. . Move out of sight once spotted. In a rare scenario, you can still land a kill once spotted and fired at but this is a very risky move and not recommended. . Never directly engage a titan. Self-explainer. . Do not reload in a risky situation. Example: You just killed an enemy but you still hear or see other grunts or Pilots around. Even with the short reload time you still open yourself for an easy target. . Do not follow a Pilot into a closed space. Following an unaware Pilot is not always the right move. Say the Pilot enters a house with another one waiting inside, happens all the time. . Dont end up surrounded in the middle of a fight. Landing in the middle of a gun fight between pilots and grunts will likely get you killed. . Disengage immediately once a Pilot clocks while firing at you. This will brick the lock and will take you double the time to lock again. _______________________________________________________________________________ '-- 350: Things to consider---------------------------------------------------' Overall, the Smart Pistol MK5 cannot be considered a competitive weapon and most of the community considers it an unfair advantage due to the lack of an actual aiming. Apart from taking out grunts with ease, the weapon gets outclassed easily in close or long range fights. However, it can deal massive damage if used while hidden and out of sight. Not recommended to deal with titans or when surrounded. Instead staying out of sight and using it once the chance is presented. I personally recommend learning the basics and challenges and then move into another weapon. As easy as it may seem, I had much better luck with the EVA-8 Shotgun in close combat while R-101C Carbine did the long range job. ====================== 400: Closing \ =============================================================================== _______________________________________________________________________________ '-- 410: Contacts ------------------------------------------------------------' I may be contacted any time via my email, Twitter or Blog.
