1. Introduction
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
The Fall: The Last days of Gaia is a rare title. It?s a complex party based
role-playing game of a post apocalyptic future. It?s also a game that was
never officially released in the English language. As a result it?s a game
you?ll have a very hard time locating through your usual retailers. A fan
made mod to translate the native German language to English has been
created, but is not supported and condoned by the publisher or developer.
Despite these shortcomings, The Fall: The Last days of Gaia when combined
with the fan made English translation mod is still a remarkable role-playing
game. If you?ve played Silver Style?s other release Soldiers of Anarchy,
this is basically The Fall with a much deeper role-playing design.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
2. Where to get the game
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
--------
You can get the game from most German retailers, which also ship to your
region. I strongly recommend The Fall: The Last days of Gaia Reloaded
version. Previous versions were protected by Starforce and were extremely
buggy. The Fall: The Last days Reloaded addresses all those issues. Some
minor bugginess remains from my experience, but no major crashes, lock ups,
or game ending bugs. I picked my copy up at
http://www.1advd.ch/DefaultG.asp?idlnk=4130034, they ship to the US. They
did require a print out of my credit card, otherwise no hassles.

* Thunder *

Young Girl: Mom, it?s thundering outside.

Mom: The storm can?t reach us in here, don?t be afraid.

Young Girl: I?m not afraid.

Mom: I know, you?re brave my dear.

Young Girl: What exactly is bravery?

Mom: That?s a good question. Men that risk themselves for others are brave,
but it can also be brave to tell the truth.

Young Girl: Is everyone brave like me?

Mom: * chuckles * Not everyone, but some are. Our leader, for example.

Young Girl: Why is he so brave?

Mom: I don?t know. Sometimes you must do things that you don?t want to do at
all, or that you are afraid to, do you understand? We owe our leader a debt
of gratitude, you must never forget that. He was prepared to sacrifice his
life for us.

Young Girl: Mom. . .

Mom: Yes?

Young Girl: Tell me about our leader.

(Fade to white while zooming in on girl's eye)

Mom: The story begins long ago. Our leader was, at that time, a simple
wanderer. One of the gangs from the waste lands fell upon his village and
killed everyone who lived there, including his mother.

Young Girl: Our leader didn?t have a mother any more?

Mom: No, he didn?t, and at that time he didn?t know where his father and
sister were either.

(scene change to desert)

Mom: He thought that they might have fled from the band.

Young Girl: He was all alone?

Mom: Yes, he was all alone, and because of this he looked for people who
would help him to find his mother and sister. One day he heard of people who
were calling themselves ?The Government of the New Order.? They were looking
for fighters in order to fight against the gangs.

Young Girl: I know the people from the Government! They run along the paths
all the time and stand guard.

Mom: That was a different Government at that time, my dear. Earlier
everything was much more dangerous. Because of this the Government wanted to
protect the living and fight against the gangs, and our leader wanted to
join up with them. He wanted to find the gang that had destroyed his village
and revenge himself upon them.

Young Girl: And he wanted to look for his father and sister!

(fade to next scene, the Leader running)

Mom: Exactly. He knew that he had a long and dangerous path ahead of him.
But our leader was not afraid, and he was very strong and brave. He traveled
for a long time and he was hungry and thirsty and the sun burned his face,
but eventually even such a difficult journey comes to an end...and so he
stood one day before the gates of the Government of the New Order...

chatting he will direct you to the leader of the mercenaries Wesley. Go to
the camp to the north and talk to Wesley to close out this quest.

Go through the archway and up the hill, to the left as a lone house with a
reporter standing in front. Talk to him, choose the discussion line where
you are unsure about becoming a reporter and he?ll convince you to help and
open up the quest ?Headlines for the Newspaper?. You?ll need to complete 5

can use the explosives for the trap if you wish, but I suggest saving it for
later. Instead hide behind a building (or go into one) till all the
Ratskulls gather around their stung up comrade. Them come out and attack the
group using a Molotov cocktail on the Ratskulls, then it's just a matter of
clean up. Once they are killed you've already gotten one story for your

let him know Sarah is safe, this will open up new areas to explore.

Items of Interest: As you enter New Stafford to the right behind the house

of crates and some ammo in one of them. Take the beeswax from the beehives
you find. Pickup the headrest next to the old camero.

Quest: The Missing Wolf
Find the boy Bobby in the center of village and talk to him to activate The
Missing Wolf quest. Find the wolf he lost to the east of the Ben?s village

Items of Interest: Check crates next to Chuck's thrashing machine for some
loot
Talk to Chuck if you like. Follow the raised road and check the kennel for
some meat (next to William). Loot the derelict blue truck near the center of
the south bottom map, loot it.

You'll see several key contacts in the village south. Don't talk to Myriam
yet, she'll start a quest Measure the old station, this mission is in
another zone and you still have stuff to do here

Items of Interest: The other key contact is Gene, the trader. Talk to him
for trade, near him are some crates, loot them for a trashcan, some darts,
hair dryer, and some ammunition. Talk to Keno if you want to recruit a sharp
shooter.

east camp now, before heading to either of the Ratskull camps to the west.
North of Jin-bobs camp you find Adrain's house talk to him. You can get the
bear required for this request lying on the ground near the tree up to the
entrance going to Chucks and Williams place. When you talk to Adrian you can
if you want just motivate him without needing to return his lucky charm to
him. Note that the conversation tree with Adrian is a little odd, just act
like you'll come back later and he'll stop you, and ask him if he's ill and
he'll give you the full story. Once you get him to agree to go back this
will kick off a movie sequence, quest complete once you talk to Nigel again
and get 300 XP! You can talk to Miles a new trader with a nice selection of
weapons! Miles is behind Jim-Bobs, in the other camp to the north.

Items of Interest: Loot the clothesline for bullet proof clothes.

If you want you can chat with the local hooker by taking the southwest road
and talk to Lovely Leila, she really tells you nothing and offers no quests
at this time. Loot her crate for some common salvage.

Quest: The Missing Father
To the west on Jim-bobs Village is Colin, talk to him to find out his father
is missing and activate The Missing Father quest. Pick up the items near the
body (semi hard to spot especially at night so just use the loot location
command) between Adrian?s cabin and the Skullrats Drug base, on the edge of
a plateau, this area is usually guarded by a number of wolves. Return the
locket to Colin to close the quest and 200xp.

Items of Interest: Search the ice box near Jim bob for some meat and one of
the barrels has a staple gun, and a battery in a nearby crate, and a power
drill laying beside the junk pile (near the logs)

Quest: Jim-Bob in Love
Talk to Jim-Bob to get the quest, Jim-Bob in Love and help him win a date.
Conversation tip, to open this quest up make fun of the way he looks but ask
what he's got to sell. This kick off what is the most ammusing quest of
the game to this point.

Talk to Luis to get the part of Jim-Bob in Love quest, with a little
persuasion you can convince Luis to do it cut Jim-Bobs hair for free and
he?ll give you a magazine to boot.

Items of Interest: Take the cloths of the clothesline and take the Beewax
from the beehives.

Talk to Maren to get some soap for the Jim-Bob in Love quest, you can trade
her some of your meat or the hairstyle magazine that Luis gives you. Now you
are just about ready for true love (or what passes for it in a post
apocalyptic future) flourish.

Head up to chuck threshing machine and try to persuade him to hand over his
jacket for Jim-Bob in Love quest, if you can't you'll probably have to kill
him and loot his body for ammo and weapon. You can also wait for Chuck to
leave the thrashing machine (he leaves around 8PM to 11PM). As soon as he
leaves, put the shovel on the threshing machine and a sequence will start.
If he comes back and sees it broken, he'll ask if you can repair it. If you
repair it he'll give the jacket in exchange for the help. However you solve
it head back, as you?re ready to close out the quest. Talk to Jim-Bob and
you'll set off a amusing set of movie sequences resulting in Jim-Bob getting
lucky. Quest Complete and 350xp!

Loot: Head south out of town, and by fence exit you'll see a wood log pile
to the right, search it for some loot (rusty iron bar), to the barn on the
right there is a trunk with a lock on it you can pick.

Quest: Get the password
Now get some rest and set wake up to occur around 9am, eventually by 11am
some drug runners should visit Leila for a roll the hay, when they do right
click on truck and do action to plant bug. This will allow you to over hear
the password so you can now enter base. No need to hide at any time yet, as
they seem to completely ignore armed strangers.

Once in the Ratskulls Drug lab, you can tackle this in one of two ways,
stealth or killing spree. Stealth is probably easier, though takes a little
longer. The benefit of the stealth killing is a ton of XP for the stealth
killer for the killing blows. It can take awhile, though, and I'd recommend
taking out the patrols first then handling the stationary posts. Don't
forget to loot the bodies, and you can also pick the bodies up and carry
them to isolated locations if you're at risk of being seen. Once you're down
to pairs of Ratskulls, you're ready to pull team together and take the rest.
Clear the camp and get 400XP!

Items of Interest: to the far right (west) of the base has a cake tin in
some crates against the wall. In the north corner by the building with 2
guards you can find a key you need for a Quest!

Quest: The Blackmailed Scientist

the HQ if you can rescue their family to the west behind Leila. Once the
hostages are free, go back to liberated camp and talk to Jeff. Quest

7. Skills
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---

Primary Weapon Skills
Close Combat- (Recommended) impacts your effectiveness with melee attacks.
This is a great power mid to late game, first with Chainsaw and then with
Katana that are essentially one shot kills through the end of the game.
Ideally you want a fast character to be the melee specialist. Recommendation
is to limit your team to one Close Combat specialist.

Light Weapons ? (Mild Recommendation) This is a useful power early on as you
mainly have light weapons. However later in the game heavy weapons rule the
field. If you take one ,recommendation is to limit your team to one Light
Weapons specialist.

Heavy Weapons- (Highly Recommended) Heavy Weapons may be rare in the early
game, but by mid game it heavily outweighs Light Weapons in effectiveness.
Recommended mix is three Heavy Weapons specialist.

Sniper Weapons-(Recommended) This is a useful long range pull power, and can
a opponent off their feet. Sniper weapons is also the only other set that a
one shot kill weapons mid to late game, though the ammunition is rare, its
worth it. Recommendation is to limit your team to one Light Weapons
specialist.

Throwing Weapons-(Recommended) Effective use thrown weapons. The grenades
and other thrown weapons are effective area of effect attacks but the ammo
is limited and you have to get pretty close unless you?re also strong. Not
as effective overall as Heavy Weapons, so do not recommend specializing in
this skill. Ok to put some points into this later in the game when your two
primary skills are maxed

Primary Non Combat Skills

Explosives- (Recommended) Required skill for handling any kind of explosive.
Not a great skill, but generally semi useful in a wide range of situations.
Anyone handling explosives, without a fair skill rating will blow themselves
up just picking them up. This skill set is valuable for a number of quests,
can double as a lock picker in a pinch, they can also set up ambushes for
opponents with explosives. Only need one specialist for this on your team.

Survival- (Highly Recommended) This is one of the top most useful skill
sets. You can hide animals (for food and profit), cook food, find water, and
useful in a few quests. Only need one specialist for this on your team

Stealth- (Not recommend) While it would seem useful not agro-ing your
enemies before your ready for them. The ability to attack in stealth mode is
limited and no quest reasons to have power. Putting a few points into this
skill to avoid the +100% chance to attract nearby enemies is ok, but
otherwise save your skill points. Pass on this one

Pick Pocket- (Not recommend) You can pick pocket friendly characters for
loot, this can be fun. However if you get caught, it will hurt your
reputation for a fair time, also the items you can filch are usually low
quality and you can earn more than enough scavenging maps. Also there is no
quest requirement for this power. Overall not worth it, considering how many
useful non combat skills there are. Pass on this one.

Lock Picking- (Recommended) This can be a valuable skill of you get the
right related talents. Many locks have traps, so when choosing your talents
for this skill keep that in mind. Lock picks tend to break so horde all of
them you can, you?ll need them if you want to make decent use if this skill.
Only need one specialist for this on your team

Technical- (Highly Recommended) another great all around power. Repair
damaged equipment, sue this to sell equipment for more, or buy for less
(getting valuable damaged items, then repairing them). This also has some
great Talent choices that are very useful, it?s also one of the most
commonly needed skills for quests. Only need one specialist for this on your
team

Speech- (Highly Recommended) This skill can reduce your costs for buying
equipment, you can also shortcut lengthy quest mailman runs by just
persuading people to give you want you want. However, this skill is only
useful for your leader character but is almost critical.

Drive - (Recommended) This is a good skill to get if you plan on driving
vehicles. The vehicles can make map travel very fast, and can store
extra/heavy/surplus equipment in the vehicle (which is a serious issue late
in the game). If you get this one make sure to carefully select the Talents
for this skill, such as repair. Only need one specialist for this on your
team

Medical- (Highly Recommended) Arguably the most critical non combat skill
for your team. You need to be able to heal your team after a fight or with
the talent resuscitate you can actually revive dead characters within 5
minutes! Also used a few times during quests. You only need one specialist
for this on your team, as they can adequately handle your health needs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
8. Party Skill recommendation
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Its typically a good idea to focus your skill improvement in two primary
skills. One weapons and one non combat skill for each character. As you
level your characters get these as quick as possible to 99. With a 99 rating
you've earned your third and final talent slot.

Your team weapon skills should look something like 1 Light weapons, 3 Heavy
Weapons, 1 close combat, and 1 sniper.

Non combat skills should be usually limited to one of each type. And look
something like this 1 Medical, 1 Drive, 1 Speech (your leader), 1 Technical,
1 Survival, 1 explosives. Basically 1 of each recommended non combat skill
set.

The mix of powers is based on the type of characters you recruit for your team
The character you create is the leader of the team, and is the only one who
can talk to quest givers. What you select is highely dependant on your play
style, I do have a few strong recommendations

*	Leader should specialize in Speech as they are the only ones
to really get benefit from this skill,
*	Try to coordinate your abilities match your skills. Agility
and Strength with Close Combat. Strength for Heavy weapons.
Charisma with Speech, etc.
*	You'll reach between level 10 and 14 by the end of the game,
so slot attributes, Skills, and talents accordingly

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
10. Attributes Recommendations
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
State levels raise in effects every 2 levels, 11 is considered par, and 13
gets you first bump.

Strength-You should aim as 11 is bare minimum, with no bonus and decent
carrying weight. If you're Heavy Weapons and especially Melee you want to
put as much into this you can. If you are set with your core stats go ahead
and drop pts into Strength, being able to carry more is never a bad thing

Constitution- 11 is bare minimum, but if you can shot for 13 and get +2 LE
on ever level up this is more ideal

Agility- Again is a great attribute to raise for your melee fighter. The
extra armor and speed will really help.

Intelligence- 11 is bare minimum, but if you can get to 13 or more, the
extra skill points when you level will come in handy. The earlier you do it
the better.

Dexterity- Great idea to point points into for your light weapons expert,
sniper, and for your lockpick person.

Charisma- Your leader and personal character should have at least a rank of
16 by the time you end the game. A high rating really improves your
negotiations and trading!

14. FAQ
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Question: What exactly is 'The Fall'?
Answer: The Fall is a CRPG being developed by Silver Style Entertainment.
More specifically, it is a non-linear, open-ended party-based cRPG set after
a catastrophic environmental accident has crippled the Earth. For more
information on the story, go here: http://www.the-
fall.com/e/index.php?menu=story

Question: What is the setting?
Answer: TF will take place in the Southern United States. After the
disaster, the ecosystems of the world have collapsed and reformed, so expect
wastelands/deserts. Also, expect totally different plant and animal life.
Carsten says:
"From the world we know today isn't much there anymore in 2083. Flora and
fauna have changed completely."

Question: What is the rating for 'The Fall'?
Answer: 16+ Mature

Addition: There is a fan add on mod to turn blood back on. The link I have
is now broken

Question: The Fall? Is this in any way related to Fallout?
Answer: No. This game is COMPLETELY different from the Fallout universe. The
only thing that makes it similar is the setting.

As for the style of TF, here is a (very) recent quote from Carsten on the
subject:
"FO has its own style, no question. TF is more like Mad Max. More
deserts/wasteland."

Question: Is TF linear or non-linear?
Answer: TF is a completely non-linear game. Player can explore the world in
any way he or she chooses. Although new area will open up as you complete
quests. There is a map that allows for a player to move to any location he
chooses(much like the map in Jagged Alliance or Fallout). There will be many
subquests that the player may or may not do, many NPC's to interact
with...everything that you have come to expect of a CRPG.

Question: So...when is TF being released?
Answer: The German version of TF will be released in November 2004. There is
no planned release for the english version of TF, but there are several fan
made English translation mods that allow English speaking players to enjoy
the game.

Question: Will 'The Fall' be available worldwide?
Answer: Other Langauges were released, but many of them are not patched to
the latest version. As a result its recommended to use the German Reloaded
version for purchase and playing

Question: Will there be multiplayer?
Answer: Not the current versions

Question: Is there a demo?
Answer: No, but movies most definitely.

Question: Who are the publishers for TF?
Answer: This depends on region.

SSE Info

Question: I heard from (insert source here) that SSE would be buying the
Fallout license and finishing it! Is this true?
Answer: Unfortunately everything you hear at this point is just rumor. Yes,
Carsten did state that SSE was interested in buying the license, but it is
waaaaaayyyy too soon to tell if it will actually take place. And even if
they get the license, it is pretty doubtful that they will pick up the old
BIS code and continue to make the game.

Question: Are you sure? Maybe they would combine The Fall and Fallout...
Answer: No. Even if SSE were to get the Fallout license, The Fall would
remain exactly the same as it is now. The only way that Fallout 3 would get
made is after TF gets out the door, and even then it is still a longshot.

Question: I heard that former Black Isle team members would be working at
SSE...
Answer: One former BIS member, Damien 'Puuk' Foletto, was hired to do
freelance work on 'The Fall' and has since moved to work for EA. Another ex-
BISer, Jeff Husges, has been hired by SSE to work on TF. Any other hiring
news at this point is just rumor.

--------- Gameplay -----------

General

Question: How long will TF be?
Answer: More info straight from Carsten:
"You can expect to play 40 to 50 hours on the main story. 95 % of the people
who bought the game will be pleased with this length. For the last 5 % we
integrated the possibility to play endless. Fight, trade, raise your
character, build items and wander through wastelands as long as you want.
There's no limitation for the level of your character. "

Carsten later clarified that the gametime he specified was for the main
quest, meaning that he didn't count sidequests or extra activities into that
total.

Question: Is there any kind of time limit on the main quest, like from
Fallout 1?
Answer: No, there is no time limit on the main storyline, but there can be
time limits on some subquests in the game.

Question: Can we continue playing after we beat the main storyline? Will
there be new content unlocked after you beat it?
Answer: Yes to both questions. You can continue to play after you beat the
main storyline, and you get new content to explore and new enemies to fight.
Here is the quote from Carsten:
"After you're through with the main story you get:

1. New battles
2. New enemies
3. New NPCs
4. New quests
5. New hidden secrets

The difficulty of the game will increase rapidly after the main story. You
will need some time to solve all quests, beat all enemies and find all
secrets. Maybe nobody will find everything we hide in the wastelands."

Here is a link to the thread on it: http://www.silver-
style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1625

Question: I read somewhere that you can look for water and food...will this
be required to live? Will I be forced to find food or water by a certain
time-limit each day or I will die?
Answer: Nope! Its just helps you heal after a fight
Carsten says:
"No, it would be a pain in the ass, I think. Maybe funny for the first 3 or
4 hours of playing. After that it would start getting on your nerves."

For a thread discussing this topic, go here: http://www.silver-
style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1531

Question: How is experience handled in TF?
Answer: Combat experience seems to go towards whomever makes the kill. Quest
experience is spread across the party.
Quote from Carsten:
"Exp. for kills is not shared, because it makes no sense. Why should
character A sitting in a bar in town X get exp. when character B shoots
someone in town Y? However, exp. for quests is shared and that's the bigger
piece of the pie."

There is no level cap, and combat experience is shared based on how much
damage is caused by each character. The percentage of damage caused
determines the percentage of the experienced gained. For the thread on
experience, go here: http://www.silver-
style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1481&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Qyestion: Will there be a fatigue system in the game?
Answer: Yes, your characters will need to rest and sleep, or your attributes
and skills will drop. Link explaining it here: http://www.silver-
style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9078&highlight=sleep#9078

Addition: You can set up camp to rest if your characters become fatigued,
and you can decide to post guards to try and lessen the chances of
someone(or something) attacking you while you rest. This also lessens the
disadvantage if you end up being attacked anyways, because you already have
alert party members to help fight.

Question: Will the Fall just have endless stretches of wasteland, or will
there be ruins of old cities and new villages as well?
Answer: There will be villages. There will also be a few ruins, but nothing
major, so you won't find any complete ruined cities you can walk through..

We have some bigger towns, but generally everything looks more then Barter
Town in Mad Max 3.

And Don't get me wrong, we have cities with big buildings in the game, but
not with skyscrapers. You also can visit complete destroyed cities seeing
only ruins."

Question: What is travel like in TF?
Answer: Apparently similar to BG, where you have a world-map and click to
move your party to locations on that map. You cannot travel to locations
that you haven't heard of from NPC's or through the story, although
sometimes you are given a rough direction to travel in to get somewhere.

Also, there is a mini-map to help you navigate locally. There are also
random encounters while you travel, but they are not a focus in the game.

Question: Are children going to be in the game? Can you kill them?
Answer: May seem like an odd question, but it has been asked enough times
around here. The response? Yes, there are children in the game, and no, you
cannot kill them under ANY circumstances.

Here is a thread that discusses it, if you are really interested:
http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1229

Question: How does time progress in the game? Can we see the day/night
transition?
Answer: Yes. We have day/night changes. The special thing is, that ALL NPCs
(it doesn't matter how unimportant they are) have there own social life. The
have work to do, they love other NPCs, they hate other NPCs or they're just
freaky.

Question: Are there vehicles in TF?
Answer: Yes, there are. You can get many different types of vehicles,
although some may be rare and hard to find. You can also use exploring maps,
but not really in combat. For more details, check out this thread:
http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1689

Question: Are there mutants in the game?
Answer: There will be mutants, but not the typical mutants that you may be
thinking about. There is a logical progression to the mutations that have
taken place. More info on this will be available in the future.

Question: What kind of humor will be present in TF? Will there actually be
humor, or is the game very serious?
Answer: No, there will be humor in the game.
Here is a nice thread on the topic: http://www.silver-
style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1301

Question: Can players own property in TF?
Answer: Sort of. A player can take over a home or piece of property, by
killing the inhabitant or by just deciding to live in an abandoned home. But
property can't be legally bought. For a good thread discussing this, go
here: http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2791&start=0

Question: Are there drugs or narcotics in TF?
Answer: Yes, Carsten has answered that there are drugs and herbs in the
game. He hasn't given out any other details yet on the effects or types or
anything of that nature at this time.

Combat

Question: Is 'The Fall' Real-time or Turn-based?
Answer: The combat in TF is real-time with pause. To elaborate, the game is
technically all real-time. You can pause the action at ANY time and issue
orders to any of your party members. There are also 'auto break' points. You
can set the action to pause if triggers are activated, like if a character
goes below 50% health, runs out of ammo, if an enemy dies, etc. There are 15
of them available.

Question: Is there any way to specialize with certain types of weapons?
Answer: Yes. You can specialize your character on specific weapons.
Independently from your skill. Example: The more kills you made with "Babsy"
(your PSG-1) the better you shoot with her. But only with Babsy. Other
weapons are not influenced and for other PSG-1s you get only a smaller
bonus. The goal was to personalize weapons and to make weapons valuable
which you found early in the game."

Notice that Carsten has also said that they are considering letting a player
actually name their weapons...like naming your PSG-1 'Babsy', for instance.

For the entire thread, go here:
http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1532

Question: Is there area-specific damage in TF? Like, can I target the head
or the legs of my enemies?
Answer: Well...in a limited capacity. You can target the head if you have
high enough skill and choose the selected 'talent'

Question: Can you fire while on the move?
Answer: According to developers, yes, but I?ve not been able to do it.

Question: Do the lighting conditions affect combat?
Answer: Yes, fighting in low-light conditions affect combat. The seeing
distance of players and enemies is shorter at night, and accuracy also drops
when fighting at night.

NPC's

Question: How many party members can you have? Do you have to have any?
Answer: You can have up to 6 party members(main character included) at any
one time. You aren't forced to take on characters, but surviving in the new
wasteland can be difficult for one person to do alone, so you might be
needing all the help you can get.

Question: How will people react to crimes you commit? There won't be that
annoying 'commit a crime and everyone knows' crap, will there?
Answer: Guards only attack if they see what you're doing. Normal citizens
don't attack. They tell everybody what they saw and you have to live with
the consequences. Just like in real life..."

Question: Will party NPC's interact with each other?
Answer: Yes, NPC's will interact with each other. Each NPC has his or her
own personality and past, and these will sometimes conflict among one
another. Characters interact with each other, with the main PCs and the
environment. They talk about stuff their interested in, about themselves or
other party members. If they have serious problems with another character
they ask the main PC/the player to solve it, as he's the leader. Every
character has its own past and plans for the future.

Question: What is this 'Living World Architecture' that I keep hearing
about?
Answer: Simply put, it is the idea that the world around the player will be
alive. NPCs will remember you, your reputation will spread through rumors,
merchants will remember you, NPCs will have their own daily schedules and
interact with each other, and trading and bartering is affected by what is
available in the area. As a little example for the last bit, suppose that
you find water in the desert. You will be able to trade for more goods if
the town you are in is suffering a drought, while a town that has wells in
every garden won't give you as much for your water. Overall, the gameworld
should seem more alive than most other RPGs, since your actions affect the
world and the world reacts realistically to your actions.

Character Info

Question: I noticed that there is only one skill that deals with diplomacy.
Does that mean that TF is a combat-only game?
Answer: No. Far from it. All interactions will be tested using the charisma
score and the newly added speech skill. You can still do everything there is
to do in an RPG(talking to NPCs, convincing them to join you, haggle for
prices, etc), so don't worry.

Question: Can we pick perks as we level up?
Answer: No, you choose talents upon reaching certain skill levels.

Examples: You have reached 75 points on ?Survival?. Now you can choose
between the talents cooking (you can cook meat etc. and get 50 % more health
points out of it), higher perception (10 % higher chance to spot foes),
influence animals (animals won?t flee, aggressive ones swill not attack) Or
you have 75 % on ?Light Weapons?. Now choose between the talents targeted
precision (+10 % on far targets), positioning shooting (shoot kneeing or
lying without handicap) or headshots (+5 % chance to place headshots)

Every time one of your skill reaches 75, 85 or 95 points you can choose one
talent for it. There will be 6 talents to choose from for each skill.

Question: If you can design your starting character, what kind of
customization is there? Can you chose gender, size, hair color, any kind of
visual attributes?
Answer: Gender: Yes, Size: You can choose typical body markings for you
character (big, heavy etc.), Hair Color: No, you have a selection of
potraits ot choose from, male or female."

Addition: Carsten has also said that you can import your own photos or
artwork and use them as your portrait and face in the game. Here is the
quote:
"You can put in your own faces on the 3D models. You just have to take a
photo and make a texture out of it."

So don't worry. You can customize what your character looks like, to an
extent.

Question: How many types of armor/clothes can you wear and does it change
your appearance?
Answer: You have armors, helmets, boots, gloves etc...All clothes are
affecting your protection against attacks and are shown directly on the 3D
character."

Question: Is there any kind of meter or gauge that keeps track of your
overall alignment, Like the light/dark gauge in KOTOR?
Answer: No, there is no rating system that gauges a player's actions during
the game. However you can track your overall reputation.

This quote from a recent preview sums it up nicely:
"Silver Style intentionally did not construct some type of good/evil
alignment system, which means you can act as selfish or altruistic as you
want without being rated. Of course, your decisions will have consequences
nonetheless and might make you more or less popular in certain regions
depending on the situation you're facing."

--------- Technical ----------

General

Question: Can we make mods for TF?
Answer: Yes! Preliminary information for this is available in this thread:
http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1357
More information as it comes out.

Addition: 3d models will be in SSE's own format. Here's what Sebastian Tusk
said:
"We use an own format for 3d models. We do not have a exporter for Milkshape
but it is not hard to build one."

Addition: You can also add items to the game. Thread on the subject here:
http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1681

Question: Can you walk inside of buildings?
Answer: Yes, you can. All buildings can be entered, and no interior will
appear twice. For more info on this subject, check out this thread:
http://www.silver-style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1664

Question: What are the system requirements for TF?
Answer: As specified in the official FAQ:

System requirements (minimum)

Win 98, ME, 2000, XP
256 MB RAM
P800 MHz (or similar)
650 MB hard disc space
32 MB DirectX compatible graphics card
CD-ROM Drive

System requirements (recommended)

Win 98, ME, 2000, XP
512 MB RAM
P1, 2 GHz (or similar)
650 MB free hard disc space
64 MB DirectX compatible graphics card
CD-ROM Drive

Question: What kind of graphics engine does TF use?
Answer: TF uses an in-house graphics engine designed and built entirely by
SSE. A cool feature to mention is different character animations based upon
stats. Meaning that if a character has a low agility, his climbing animation
will show him having a tough time getting over the wall. Someone with a high
agility will seem smooth and graceful. This is just one of many little
finishing touches the engine has. For a fantastic article on the engine,
take a look at Sebastian Tusk's Dev Diary from IGN, found here:
http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/516/516746p1.html

Sound

Question: Will TF use EAX?
Answer: No, Carsten has said that it won't.

Question: What kind of music will be in TF?
Answer: described as 'ethno-ambient' or almost tribal, the title song is
actually quite good. The rest fits the setting.

Here is a thread on the subject: http://www.silver-
style.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1511
