Summoner. A great game developed by Volition and published by THQ. I bought
Summoner back in late 2000 when I was in high school. I played the hell out
of this game. I remember getting stuck on the Sewar Mech bosses for like
a month.

But eventually I beat the game. Then I mastered the game. Then I didn't
play the game for like 5 years. Haha. Well I picked it back up lately,
and over the years I have acquired some skills on the computer, so I 
figured I'd put it to good use and hack Summoner saved game files.

So this guide is a list of useful offsets for hacking Summoner.

The current level of Joseph. The max level of all characters in this game
is level 50. There is no use setting Joseph's level any higher. The best
thing you can do is leave your character at level 1, but give yourself
enough experience to be level 50 after 1 kill. You'll get a huge health
and AP boost by doing this. Just setting the level cheats you from these
benefits.

Gold is located at offset 150ED and is 4 bytes long, ending at 150EF. 
However, gold is stored as a signed integer, meaning that if you toggle 
the highest bit on (a value of 80 or higher on the 4th byte) you will have 
negative gold. Therefore the highest you can possibly have is FFFFFF7F. 
I don't recommend this though, because if you get even a single piece of 
gold, you will toggle the highest bit on, and roll back around to the 
highest negative value possible for gold. So it's best to use FFFFFF7E 
and just not worry about the missing 16 million gold.

The inventory is definitely the thing you have to be the most careful with
if you should choose to hack it. If you mess it up even slightly, the game
will refuse to load the file.

Because of this, I'll explain how the inventory is laid out in the file,
and then I'll try to list steps you should do if you hack the inventory.

My honest advice - Don't hack the inventory. It is possible, but it's
overly complicated, and I fear I wont explain it well enough in my FAQ.
Because you can hack your character's stats, and gold... I recommend just
doing that and using your gold to buy overpowered gear.

At the very least, if you decide to hack the file, make a backup first.

1.) Backup your file, in case you mess up.

2.) Change the # of Items Offset to how many items you want. Don't forget 
    what you set it to.

3.) Starting at the offset of the first item (150F5), begin filling in
    the offsets with Item ID, Item Quantity, Item Charges, over and over
    until you have created all your items.

4.) After putting in the last item's item charge, put in the number of
    bytes used, which is ((#ofItems*12)+16), so if you put in 3 items
    that would be (3*12)+16... which is 52, and in Hex that's 34000000

5.) If you made a smaller inventory than you originally had,
    don't worry if the bytes after the Number of Bytes used is still
    filled with old inventory information, the game will ignore this
    area.

In order to hex edit saved game files of Summoner, you'll need the
following:
           1.) Summoner installed and working on your PC.

           2.) Some type of Hex Editing Program. I recommend Hex Workshop
               from Breakpoint Software, which you can get a free trial
               of from their website.

           3.) A calculator that can convert from Decimal to Hexadecimal
               or pen and paper... Heh heh heh

           4.) Patience.

Put very simply, Hexadecimal is a different way of counting/displaying
numbers. Normal people use the decimal numbering system. What's the
difference you ask? The number of characters in the system. Observe!

Decimal Numbering System:
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Zero = 0
Ten = 10
Fifteen = 15
Sixteen = 16
Two Hundred Fifty Five = 255

Hexadecimal Numbering System:
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F

Zero = 0
Ten = A
Fifteen = F
Sixteen = 10
Two Hundred Fifty Five = FF

Most computers nowadays have a calculator with a scientific mode. Open up
your calculator program in Scientific mode. With the Decimal bubble
selected, put in the number you want to convert, then click on the
Hexadecimal bubble... the number is instantly converted to hexadecimal for
you!

To convert from Hexadecimal to Decimal, simply put the calculator in Hex
mode, type in the hexadecimal number you wish to convert, then click on
the decimal bubble. Tada!

So you want to actually do the conversion yourself eh? Here are the steps.

1.) Take your number and divide it by 16. Save the Answer, and the
    Remainder.

2.) Write the Remainder off to the side. Any remainder higher than
    9 should be converted to Hex. 10 would be A, 15 would be F.

3.) Take the Answer, and divide it by 16. Save the Answer, and the
    Remainder.

4.) Write the Remainder off to the side, to the LEFT of previous
    Remainders. Any remainder higher than 9 should be converted
    to Hex. 10 would be A, 15 would be F.

5.) Continue dividing Answers by 16 until the Answer is 0.

6.) The answer is your remainders, read from left to right.

Example: 99.

99 divided by 16 = 6 REMAINDER 3
Write 3 off to the side
6 divided by 16 = 0 REMAINDER 6
Write 6 off to the side, to the left of 3
The Answer is now 0, we are done.
The answer is the Remainders: 63

Starting on the far right...

1.) Multiply the farthest right number by 16^0 (16 to the zeroth power)

2.) Write the answer off to the side

3.) Move left one number.

4.) Multiply this number by 16^1 (16 to the first power)

5.) Write the number off to the side.

6.) Repeat as necessary. The further from the right you go, the
    higher the power of 16. The 3rd number from the right is
    16 to the 2nd power (16^2), the 7th number from the right
    is 16 to the 6th power (16^6).

7.) Once you've got all the numbers multiplied and all the answers
    written off to the side, add up all the numbers written off
    to the side. That is your number in decimal.

Example: A7F.

F x 16^0 = F... which is 15
Write 15 off to the side.
7 x 16^1 = 112
Write 112 off to the side.
A x 16^2 = 2560
Write 2560 off to the side.
All numbers have been multiplied and answers have been put off to the side.
Add the answers to the side up for the answer, which is 2560+112+15 = 2687

This FAQ will take all hex numbers and put them in Little Endian format,
which is when the highest order byte is put last, not first.

So example...

Ninety Nine = 0099 in decimal = 0063 in Hex

But in this FAQ, 99 in decimal is written in Hex as 6300, and this is how
you should type your hex into your Hex Editor. Use Little Endian format.

You wont have to worry about converting my hex numbers into Little Endian
format, I'll be doing that for you automatically.

Yes, that's right, I could use some assistance with this FAQ.
Things I wouldn't mind help with:

1.) Corrections in spelling/grammar errors when found.
2.) Notification of any failed Item ID key.
3.) Saved Game Files containing items that I don't have in my FAQ yet.

The biggest one is #3... I realize I don't have every item in the game
listed on my FAQ yet, that's because the way I get them is by extracting
their ID from a saved game file that has the item... So if you want to see
that item in my FAQ, I need the saved game file with the item in the 
inventory, then I can just extract it. I still play the game trying to get
items I don't have yet, but it is very time consuming and I do still have
a life outside of this FAQ. =) So any help would be appreciated.
