This is my boss FAQ for the Playstation 2 game: Sub Rebellion. This guide was made so that the few people that have actually played the game, will have a bit of help for the boss fights. I will rank the bosses very easy, easy, medium, hard, and very hard. Very easy means it shouldn't give you any trouble at all. Easy means it might be a little tricky, but is still little to no challenge. Medium is average difficulty and you will have to use some skill to beat. Hard is very tricky and the boss may take you a long time to beat. Very hard is the highest difficulty. This means that the boss fight will seem near impossible until you get the right strategy. If you have any questions, comments, alternate strategies, etc., please feel free to email me at the address shown at the top. =============================================================================== Controls....(CTR!) -------------------- Battle Controls: ---------------- Standard Controls(TYPE A): -------------------------- L1 Button- Forward L2 Button- Backward R1 Button- Up R2 Button- Down X Button- Sonar Circle Button- Surface or Submerge Submarine Triangle Button- Uses Special Weapon Square Button- Machine Gun(hold down for torpedoes) Left Analog Stick- Change Direction Right Analog Stick- Change Camera R3 Button- Rear View Start- Pause Select- Change View -- Alternate Controls(TYPE B): --------------------------- L1 Button- Backward L2 Button- Down R1 Button- Forward R2 Button- Up X Button- Sonar Circle Button- Surface or Submerge Submarine Triangle Button- Uses Special Weapon Square Button- Machine Gun(hold down for torpedoes) Left Analog Stick- Change Direction Right Analog Stick- Change Camera R3 Button- Rear View Start- Pause Select- Change View -- Alternate Controls(TYPE C): --------------------------- L1 Button- Up L2 Button- Down R1 Button- Forward R2 Button- Backward X Button- Sonar Circle Button- Surface or Submerge Submarine Triangle Button- Uses Special Weapon Square Button- Machine Gun(hold down for torpedoes) Left Analog Stick- Change Direction Right Analog Stick- Change Camera R3 Button- Rear View Start- Pause Select- Change View -- Menu Controls: -------------- X Button- Confirm Triangle Button- Cancel D-Pad(up)- Up D-Pad(down)- Down D-Pad(left)- Left D-Pad(right)- Right Start- Confirm =============================================================================== FAQ....(FAQ!) --------------- Here are just a few Frequently Asked Questions. - Q: What is this game about and where can I find it? A: This game is about a futuristic Earth that has suffered from great earthquakes resulting in most of the continents to sink under the ocean. You are a mercenary, fighting for the rebellion, trying to destroy the evil Empire. At the same time you are uncovering clues about the ancient civilization that lived on the planet. This game is most easily bought online. -- Q: How do I get more weapons/armor/etc available for purchase? A: While playing the game, you will find artifacts. When you find enough, the rebels will be able to make more out of the ancient artifact. -- Q: How are the ranks determined and how do I get the best rank? A: After a mission, you will be "graded" on how well you did. If you find all of the artifacts and have full health when you complete the mission you will get an S ranking(the best one). -- Q: How do I use special weapons? A: In order to use the special weapons, you must first buy them. There's a limit to the amount you can have and, once you use them during battle, you will have to buy more. -- Q: Why does your guide skip some missions? A: The missions I skip don't have bosses. =============================================================================== BOSSES AND STRATEGIES....(BST!) ------------------------------- This is the main section of the guide. Here I will tell you how to beat this game's bosses. If you know a better strategy than the one I posted, feel free to e-mail me. Mission 1...(MSN1) ------------------ Boss: Mine-Layer Difficulty: Easy What to do: The first boss in the game. Doesn't look too hard does it? This technically isn't a real boss, as, later in the game, it will just become a normal enemy. Start the fight by locking on and backing away from it. Fire your torpedoes as soon as you can, and never stop moving(but don't follow it!). Just try to avoid the torpedoes it fires at you by moving up or down. This fight shouldn't last too long, and, as long as you use evasive tactics often, this boss won't get that many hits on you. === Mission 2...(MSN2) ------------------ Boss: Salvage Ship X2 Difficulty: Easy What to do: Again...this isn't really a boss fight as later in the game salvage ships will just become a normal enemy. Hopefully before you started you destroyed those subs, but if you didn't you're going to have a hard time dodging four enemy sub's ammo. Just try to get in close behind them and constantly spam them with your gun and torpedoes. After both are defeated, the mission is complete. === Mission 3...(MSN3) ------------------ Boss: Destroyer Difficulty: Easy-Medium What to do: Get as close in as you can without killing yourself and begin to fire all the missles you can at the indicated target spot. Dodge the missles it fires at you, but mainly just stay alongside it while attacking the targeted spot. If you get low on health, attack one of those things that just stays in one place and drops explosive barrels. They always drop a health battery that will replenish your shields. Don't waste time while destroying it because, if it gets away, you will automatically fail the mission. === Mission 4...(MSN4) ------------------ Boss: Hammerhead Difficulty: easy What to do: This mysterious mercenary does pretty much nothing but run. However, it's not like he's bad at it. The Hammerhead is an extremely fast ship and it can outrun most of your torpedoes. The enemies around him are the ones attacking. so watch out for their missles. Fire your torpedoes when your positive they'll hit Hammerhead, but the majority of damage will come from your machine gun. After you've scared Hammerhead away don't bother chasing him. === *NOTE: MISSION 5 HAS NO BOSS* Mission 6...(MSN6) ------------------ Boss: Empire's Prized Battle Ship Difficulty: Medium What to do: This is the Empire's prized possesion. Start the battle by destroying the batteries on the sides of the battleship. Attempt to dodge the missles the best you can, but don't worry if you get low on health becaues you can destroy one of the dome-like structures for health(use your sonar to help you). After you destroy the batteries the front of it will open up and start firing very smart torpedoes at you. Attack the front end of it where it opened up at and this boss will be destroyed very quickly. Watch out for the missles though, they will destroy you fairly quickly. === Mission 7...(MSN7) ------------------ Boss: Salvage Ships X4 Difficulty: Medium What to do: This fight isn't actually difficult because of what you are fighting, but because the mission you just finished is damaging to the Cronos and you probably have very little health left. If you need health, ascend to the surface and destroy the hovering airship things to get some health. If you don't need health then simply start the battle by destroying anything around you and the salvage ships, you won't want anything interfering. After whatever around is gone, use the same strategy you used for mission 2 to destroy them. === *NOTE: MISSION 8 HAS NO BOSS* Mission 9...(MSN9) ------------------ Boss: Stone Guardian Difficulty: Hard What to do: Well...the first of the Guardians. This is one of the more primitive versions, but it's still more powerful than anything in the Republic and Empire. Who cares though, right? You've got skill. First I must say that it's easiest to stay near the middle. If you're too high, it's very hard to dodge, and if you're too low, it's very hard to attack. It has three main attacks. One is an eye laser he'll somewhat aim at you. It's easy to avoid(just stay away from it), but it's the most powerful of the three. The second attack is a bunch of homing missles it fires at you. They aren't powerful individually, but if all of them hit you they will do more damage than the eye laser. To avoid the missles there is a sort of fluid motion you can take. As they are coming toward you, assuming you're at a middle depth, start ascending and then move forward. If you did it right they will all be behind you, now they will come around back at you. As they are doing this, you should descend and move backwards. If this entire motion was done correctly, then you should end up in the exact same place you were when he started to fire the missles. The Guardians third attack is an earthquake type thing. If you get too close to him, he will hit the ground hard, sending out a shockwave that does fairly good damage. In order to bring down this behemoth, attack the weak points that are marked with the target thing. You only have to bring one weak point down to zero health before he will become paralyzed. Try to destroy the weak point with one(not all of them) missle because, when he's paralyzed, you're going to want to hit him in the face with everything you can. After about 1/4 damage, or 10 seconds of being paralyzed, he will wake up and you will have to hit the weak point again to paralyze him. Repeat the whole paralyze and attack strategy to bring this boss down. === Mission 10...(MSN10) -------------------- First Boss- Boss: Destroyer Difficulty: Easy What to do: Just do the same thing to destroy it that you did in Mission 3. - Second Boss- Boss: Hammerhead Difficulty: Medium What to do: The mysterious Hammerhead pilot. You're rival has returned, and this time he's not screwing around. The Hammerhead is still incredibly fast, but now he's actually attacking you. He has three nuclear torpedoes he'll fire at you occasionally and will constantly circle around and fire his machine gun. Start by destroying any imperial sub that gets in your way. You'll have to beat Hammerhead the same way you did in mission 4 as he's still fast enough to out-maneuver your torpedoes. === Mission 11...(MSN11) -------------------- Boss: Empire's Assault Force Difficulty: Medium What to do: The Assault Force is made up of tons of enemy subs and about 3 or 4 mine-layers. You won't have any trouble destroying the normal subs, but the mine-layers may give you a bit of trouble. Keep them away from the base, and you'll complete the mission after all waves are destroyed. If any enemy sub are attacking the base, stop whatever you're attacking and destroy whatever's destroying the base. This isn't really a boss fight, but it isn't that complicated so I figured I'd include it. === Mission 12...(MSN12) -------------------- Boss: Imperial Base Difficulty: Medium-Hard What to do: Like Mission 11, this mission doesn't have a real boss, but it's simple enough that i'll include it anyways. Simply destroy all of the batteries and enemy subs that are getting in your way. After most/all of them are gone, attack the areas marked in red by your sonar. If you need health, there's a health pack in the room with you(it will be purple on your sonar). === Mission 13...(MSN13) -------------------- Boss: The Poison Moth (Empire's flying boat) Difficulty: Medium What to do: As soon as the boss appears, surface and head towards it. You have to destroy this thing quickly or you'll fail the mission. The instant you get to it, fire air missles at the batteries it has near the back of it(they have the red target thing on them). Destroy them all. After you destroy all of the batteries, the back of it will open up and start dropping explosive barrels underwater. While the back is open, fire everything you've got at the thing that comes out to destroy the moth. During the mission you will come to a point where the surface is completely frozen. Simply dive under the water and go under this, it isn't long and when you surface you can resume destroying whatever part of the Moth you were destroying. === *NOTE: MISSION 14 HAS NO BOSS* Mission 15...(MSN15) -------------------- Boss: Sphinx Guardian Difficulty: Hard What to do: Well, the battle takes place on the surface, but there aren't a lot of places you can hide. The missles this guardian fires can follow you around both above and below the water. Start by surfacing and head towards the guardian. Eventually it will stop in a random spot and begin firing missles. While it is doing this, dodge the missles the best you can and attack the highlighted spots on it's leg. Don't try to sneak up on the Guardian because it has a laser that it shoots out of it's tail. After you've destroyed the marked spots on the Sphinx's legs, the barrier around it's chest will disappear. Attack the chest with all of your missles until the barrier is put up again. Repeat this process about four times and the sphinx will be defeated. If you need health during this battle there is one shield recharger under the ocean. Save it until you absolutely need it. === Mission 16...(MSN16) -------------------- Boss: Ancient Weapon (Arrow of Light) Difficulty: Medium What to do: Chase this oddly shaped missle around firing your normal gun. Try to corner it and get as many hits as possible. Once you've destroyed it, the mission ends. Be quick about it though. If you don't destroy the missle in time you'll fail the mission. What not to do: Do not attack it with anything other than the maching gun. You'll instantly fail the mission. === Mission 17...(MSN17) -------------------- Boss: Hammerhead and Excavation Subs. Difficulty: Medium/Hard What to do: You're favorite rival is back, and he still doesn't know when to give up! He's tried to come prepared though, so you have to give him that. This time he's faster, has a few upgraded weapons, all of his attacks do more damage, and he's brought a few of his buddies along with him. Start this battle by destroying his friends and simultaneously dodging everybody's attacks. Once all, or most, of the salvage ships are gone, lock onto the Hammerhead with your missles. The Hammerhead is faster yeah, but it tends to run into things and get stuck. Once it corners itself, unload with all the missles you can and get as many hits with the machine gun as you can and he'll be destroyed in no-time. Whatch out for the Hammerhead's nuclear missles though. If you're low on health, they can easily destroy you. === Mission 18...(MSN18) -------------------- Boss: Flagship Geia Difficulty: Hard What to do: This battle is almost identical to the one against the Empire's Battleship. The difference is that you're probably low on health and this things missles do more damage than the Battleship. If you happened to save a shield recharger, this is the time to get it. Start the battle by destroying the batteries located on all sides of the Flagship. After they are gone, aim for the torpedo launcher that comes out of the front. Attack it until it is destroyed to complete the mission. === Mission 19...(MSN19) -------------------- Boss: Flagship X2 Difficulty: Medium/Hard What to do: This entire mission is one big boss fight. Headquarters tells you that you have to destroy all of the ships though. You really don't. All you need to destroy are the two flagships. Start destroying the first one and along the way you will see a shield recharger coming up. Be sure to get it. After the first flagship is destroyed, the shockwave sent out by it will destroy all of the other ships near it(excluding you). A second one will appear. Destroy it and you'll comlpete the mission. Use the strategy I listed for Mission 18's boss to destroy the flagships. === *NOTE: MISSION 20 HAS NO BOSS* Mission 21...(MSN21) -------------------- First Boss- Boss: Hammerhead Difficulty: Easy/Medium What to do: Well, that cool music can only mean one thing: Hammerhead. Surprising to find out what he actually is isn't it? Meh. Not really. Just fight Hammerhead the same way you fought him last time. He hasn't improved that much. Actually the only new thing about him is that he has this weapon that paralyzes you, but because he's so busy running away he usually doesn't shoot anything at you while you're paralyzed. Once you beat him get ready to fight the final boss! - Second Boss- Boss: Pyramid Guardian Difficulty: Hard/Very Hard What to do: First Phase- During the first phase of this boss, it will have laser cannons constantly come out from the side of it. You will have to be incredibly fast to dodge the lasers. Do your best to avoid damage from them while attacking the laser cannons. Once all of them are destroyed, the Pyramid Guardian will move on to it's second phase. Second phase- During the second phase you probably won't have a lot of health left, but if you follow this strategy you won't get hit once. An eye will appear at the top of the pyramid, you will have about 5 seconds to get your shots in. Start by going right towards the eye and get as many missles as you can fired at it. The instant the last missle is fired, immediately get away from the pyramid. Try to go at an angle so the mines that the Pyramid MATERIALIZES OUT OF THIN AIR don't hit you. You may also want to dodge them in a way that, when they are gone, you are already heading straight towards the eye. After the mines are gone, the eye at the top will open up again, start firing your missles/running away again. After you repeat this process a few more times, the middle of the pyramid will open up. Head towards the middle but try to get as low as you can because the pyramid will fire a laser attack that will do a lot of damage if it hits you. Fire as many shots at the middle possible before it closes up. To defeat the pyramid for good, repeat the entire second phase strategy about 3-4 times. === CONGRATULATIONS!!!
