+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Space Quest 5 is surely the best episode of the series.
So I had to write a FAQ on it sooner or later.

First of all, I must make a note on the planet coordinates.
The reason why they are not in this FAQ is because they are the copy protection.
Upon buying this game, you must have received a magazine (on which a two-headed
woman is on the cover with a one headed baby). In the middle of that magazine
all planet codes are printed. (That goes of course when you bought the game back
in the good old DOS years, how they are provided if you get a legal copy today
is unknown to me, but they should be provided).
Of course, I will give the code for Genetix, since that code is not part of
the copy-protection, but given away during the game.

Second, when you played Space Quest IV you saw a holographic image of the woman
who's gonna be your wife, and with whom you even got a son. I must note that
she can die. That is a problem, because your son saved your butt in SQ4, so if
Beatrice (her name) dies your son could not be born, so can could not save your
butt in SQ4, and so we got a paradox that erases you from existance, ending the
game. Cut short you now got two lives to look after. (Beatrice is not a playable
character, though).

Well, now a few notes on the way I write FAQs.
I wrote it that way that you may only consult it when you are stuck.
I must note though that there are a few things that could doom you if you
forget them. I will note them on the last possibility to do it.

Each time I start a line with "-" it means I was entering a new room during
the writing of this FAQ. The "=" is used to sum up multiple actions in one
room.

Lastly, SQ5 is written for DOS, and modern Windows Systems may not load it
anymore, and when it loads, it runs crappy. I used DosBox 0.73 (MacOS X) to
play the game during the writing of this FAQ. DosBox can be downloaded from
http://www.dosbox.com

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| StarCon | IDX01 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Well, you start the game in the bridge simulator, which will be brutely shut
down by Quirk.

- As soon as you get control over the game exit south three times

- Go through the door on the right to get into class

- Now to do this exam. You get several questions. You have to look at the
guy left to you (from camera view) to get all correct answers. Watch out
though, if the droid catches you, you'll be tossed out of StarCon and then
  you lose the game.

Anyway, I'll also provide all correct answers here:

  1) Gronk is command a Nova Class Scoutship.
When he finds himself face to face with three Horak Battle Cruisers
     He should:
     D. Beam over a 'Pick-U-Up' Bouquet

  2) When encountering an alien ship for the first time you should
     immediatly:
     D. None of the above

  3) Before beaming down to an unexplored planet for the first time you
     should be sure to check:
     E. The planet's atmospheric readings

  4) You're marooned on an alien planet with no weapons and a killer
android out for your blood. You should:
     C. Drop a big rock on the robout and shout "Hasta la vista, baby"

  5) Your on an Eva with a partner and you notice his face is turning blue
and he is clutching wildly at his troat. This is a sign that:
     E. A and D

  6) To ensure that your crew's microwave meals are heated adequately
and evenly on boar your ship you should:
     C. Put a live space varmint in each meal so you can more easily
        determine when it is done.

  7) If Greeb leaves the crab Nabula at 32:00 GST (Galatic Standard Time)
and travels at 9.75 million ZPM, how long will it take him to reach
planet Davicon 5 if he has the solar wind in his back
     E. Never: The neutron star at the center of the Crab Nabula is so
massive that Greeb's ship can never reach escape velocity

  8) How fast does light travel through a vaccuum
     D. Depends whether it's an upright or canister vacuum

  9) Which is an example of a "Fuzzy Boundery"?
     A. The area in space between two planetary bodies where smaller third
object is not clearly under the gravitational influence of either.

 10) To succesfully accomplish a manual molecular reintergration bypass on
a standard transporter unitl you should:
     A. Reverse the phase polarity of the interface grid

After the test is over you'll be back in the mail hall.

- Exit south

- = Go through the soutern door
= Pick up the cleaning machine and the cones
  = Exit south

- Exit east

- Take the elevator down

- = Place the cones
  = Place the cleaning machine
  = Use it
= Now make the logo clean. Not even one pixel may be left dirty.
When you are ready Quirk will come in with ambassador Whankmeister.
= After Quirk and the ambassador leave you can leave as well.

- GO back to the corridor, and watch what happens meanwhile
When you get control over the game exit south

- Check out the result board.
You willl now get on the ship Eureka...

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Your first missions on the Eureka | IDX02 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- = Sit down on the chair
= Order Flo (the green woman) to hail StarCon
She'll tell you are to go to Gangularis Peeyu and Kiz Arazgubi.
= Order Droole (the red guy) to lay in a course
He'll ask for the coordinates. That's the copy protection. Get your
magazine for the coordiantes of Gagularis.
= Order Droole to go to light speed

Oh deal, a female Terminator behind you. Well let's worry about that later.

= Wait until Droole tells you, that you are approaching your destination.
= Order him to go to regular speed, then order him to activate the RRS.

Flo will tell you there's a life form in the trash you picked up.
  = Stand up.
  = Exit north

- = Open the garbage hatch and you'll meet Spike.
= Open Cliffy's toolbox (south-west of the screen)
Here I discovered a bug in Space Quest 5 which causes you to lose the
items you need. So save first before doing anything.
  = Take the laser gun
  = Take the fuse
  = Take the hole punch
  = Take the pills
  = Clean up the toolbox
= Go back into the corridor screen

- Exit west

- = Go to the transporter and Spike will jump on you. It'll get in your
    inventory now.
= Put Spike in the red cylinder to the east
= Put the anti-acid tablets in the cyinder.
= Go back to the bridge

- = Sit on the chair and order Droole to lay in a course for Peeyu.
= Light speed, when approaching the destination regular speed.
= Order Droole to activate the RRS.

Now Flo will intercept a message. This message is important, and very
much the StarCon officer who seems to be involved. I think you know who
  it is.

= Anyway, lay in a course for Kiz Arazgubi.

Upon arrival you'll be attacked by WD-40, the female Terminator.

Go down the transporter room, and click with the order icon on it to
beam down (and if you don't do that quickly you'll be dead).

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Kiz Arazgubi | IDX03 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Well, you are in trouble now.
- Well, let's first take the exit behind the waterfall

- Exit east

- Get on that tree on the background (not the one functioning as a bridge)
and the brach will break. (You'll fall down in the water though)

- Take the back exit

- Exit east

- = Go over the treebridge to the other side
= Use your stick to get some bananas.
= Go back over the treebridge
  = Exit west

- Take the western exit north

- = Enter the left cave (WD40 will come after you. You understand that if you go
    back now, you're history).
  = Jump over the gorge
= Climb up the mountain (so not into the cave)
= Use the stick to move the rock.

That makes you win the first round, but it's not over yet.

  = Go down
= Hop over the gorge and enter the cave
= Go into the cave on the right

- = Go into the other cave

- After WD40 comes out go back

- = Get into the tree brige
= When WD40 lands, put the banana in her back and she'll be destroyed.

= Get out of the tree (to the west)
  = Pick up WD40's head
  = Exit west

- Enter the cave (on the right)

- Cliffy will come down, and beam you back to the starship

- Leave the room, and you'll hear Cliffy beaming in. Go back

- You'll give Cliffy WD40's head, and he'll give you something. Whatever it
  is, you're gonna need it.
= Beam down to the planet again.

- You'll be on the spot where WD40's spaceship landed.
= Move forward. (Roger will "find" the ship).
= Use the device Cliffy just gave you to enter the ship

- = Examine the doors on the east

- This is tricky. I don't know how much time you got for this, but you
got to remove the clocking device that comes visible as soon you start.
First of all you need to move the two things up and down. Then you need
to turn the locks on the plate and hope they will all open. I just
guessed at random, and mostly I got it open in time.
When all doors are open, get the cloacking device and get your ass
  out off here.

(You'll automaticly beam back to your ship as soon as you're out of this
  one).

  Go back to the bridge

- = Order Flo for a status report. She'll suggest to go to the space bar
= Order Droole to go to the space bar. When you approach your destination
    Regular speed and standard orbit.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| The Spacebar | IDX04 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Head to the transporter room

- Get Spike out of his cage and beam into the Spacebar

- Join Droole and Flo

Now some things will happen.
First of all, if you look well, you may see Quirk with a very familiar alien.
Just a detail. :)
Anyway some lousy salesman will give you a bag of space monkeys. You're gonna
need those very soon. After that Quirk will appear at your table and challenge
you to a game of Battle Cruiser.

This is just a simple sea battle game, but now with three layers.
It doesn't really matter if you beat Quirk or not, but real adventurers as
we are we're gonna beat that bag o' shit.

As Quirk's settings are different per game you will need to guess things
yourself. Quirk is a pretty dumb player, so beating him shouldn't be that
hard.

After this game, you see Cliffy being arrested for starting a fight.

- Join Droole and Flo again

- Put your space monkeys into your drink

(Now you gotta act fast or KABOOM!)

- Exit east (not the transporter)

- You'll be in a prison. When the guards are gone
= Turn on the alarm with the console
= Examine the second cell on the left

- Here you'll find Cliffy. Place Spike on the bars to free him.

- Now you'll automaticly end up back on the brigde of your ship.
= Order Droole to lay in a course for Klorox II
= Go to light speed, and to regular speed when you approach your destination..
= When you're there go into standard orbit
= Stand up (Droole will run off to the transporter room and wait for you
    there).

- Go to the transporter room, and beam down to the surface
(Roger will automaticly put Spike back)

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Klorox II | IDX05 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- There is an exit west. Hard to spot, but it's there. When you got the
right exit you see Roger's head in front of a giant can.

- Look at the can and you'll see that it's primordial soup.
This along with 41666 as code. Those are coordinates for Droole which you
  need later in the game.
  After that go back

- Enter the building

- = When you try to examine the computer you'll be attacked by a pukoid.
= Avoid his spit by turning you head away all the time. When you keep up
long enough, Droole will save you.
= Pick up the piece of paper the pukoid dropped when he attacked you
= Look at the paper and you'll see the code 80869. It's a passcode
  = Look at the computer
  = Enter the code 80869
= Read all pages as it contains some important information.
= Use your communicator to contact Flo. You'll be beamed back onto the
    Eureka.

- Go to the bridge

- = Sit on the commander's chair and you'll receive a distress signal from
    the Goliath.
= Lay in a course for Thrakus and go into orbit when you get there.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Thrakus | IDX06 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Now be warned. If you just beam down you'll get poisoned and die.
Go into the main corridor first and take the elevator down.
(The red button activates it)

- Now open the closet to get an oxygen mask

- Go to the transporter room
(The door can be opened with the small console).

- Stand on the transporter, and wear the mask. You'll automatically be
  beamed down.

- Exit west

- Take the back exit east

- Look in the crashed pod

- = You'll find a coat in here. Take it.
  = Press the red button
= Click with the walk icon outside the picture to get into normal game
    view

- Exit west

- Walk west and you'll be attacked by Beatrice and you'll be hanging in
  a very sticky situation.
= First use your communicator to call Flo
= Then use the coat to help Beatrice escape
= Now wait for Beatrice to throw you a vine
= Grab the vine and you'll be out of here.

- = Press the red button beside Spike
= Open the freeze chamber that appears
= Pick Bea up and put her in the chamber
  = Look at the chamber
= Use the console and set it to 10 seconds Cryofreeze.

This will save Beatrice's life for the time being.

- Go to the bridge and sit in your chair

- = Wait until the Goliath shoots you
= After that order Droole for an evasive action
= When Drool warns you say "Ok! Let's risk almost certain death in the
    asteroid field!".
= Now you'll be hailed and Cliffy will get lost in space. When you get
control over the game go to the corridor and take the elevator down.

- Press the red button and take the elevator down

- = Take an extra oxygen tank from the closet
  = Examine the console
  = Choose "Pod Rotation"
  = Enter the pod.

- Okay, welcome to the most frustrating part of the game. You're fuel
runs out like crazy, and when out of fuel you are dead.
= Move right until you see Cliffy
  = Move forward
  = Put down the arm
  = Open the claw
= Maneuver until the computer says "Target in range"
= Grab Cliffy with the claw
= Move right until the green dot on your radar is directly above the
red one (at 12 o' clock, so so to say).
= Move forward and you'll get back at the Eureka

- Open the elevator door and head back to the bridge

- = Order Droole to go to Genetix (code: 41666) and go in orbit when
    you get there
= Go to the teleporter room a and beam down.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Genetix | IDX08 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Go great, the guys at Sierra have been watching "The Fly" and were apparantly
obsessed with it. As a result, your head is now on a fly and the fly's head
is now on your body. So for the time being you'll have to do it in the form
of a fly. You have no access to your inventory until you are turned back to
normal. Great.

- = Try to fly over the water, and a beast will try to eat you
(save first, as the chance is great that it succeeds), if it misses
you it will fall on your communicator
= Land on it and speak with Flo.
= After your talk fly up and exit west

- Fly into the keycard reader

- The lasers are not lethal. In fact you can go through them and see
if you can note which lasers open a part to the lock and which do not.
  You need that later.
  Exit north

- Fly on the computer

- Chose the next options
  = Restart
  = Systems
  = 3
  = Security
= Camera 3 (you'll see Cliffy and WD40 beaming in)
  Now you can fly away

- Fly to Cliffy. (WARNING, he kills you if you didn't call Flo before so
make sure you did that first). After you chat exit behind the rock

- Cliffy will now turn you back to normal, land on the body with fly head
  and it will happen.
= Use the hole punch on the business card
  = Cut the next pattern

     *       *
         *
     *       *

If the game protests, just move the mouse to another spot, move back
     and try it again.

  = Exit east (back exit)

- Cliffy is here, and WD40 will come and return your communicator.
= Use your modified business card on the keycard slot
  = Enter the cave

- = Go to the hole in the back and press it.
= Take the Nitrogen cans that are revealed
  = Examine the computer

- You may still see the camera view
  = Main menu
  = Activity Log
The logs may not tell much, but it tells something I suppose
  = Projects
Here you can real all about Primordial Soup. This is pretty important
stuff as it tells you some ins and outs about the pukoid misary.
It also contains a clue that can lead to curing a pukoid.
  = Now look at accounting
Now you see some evidence that Quirk was involved in this all.
= With that you got all the stuff and knowledge you need.
    Go back to Cliffy.

You'll automaticly give the nitrogen cans to Cliffy.
Agree with Cliffy to beam back to the Eureka.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Curing Beatrice and preperations for the last mission | IDX09 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
On board you next object is to cure Beatrice. This is dangerous as Beatrice
could easily die in this process, and when that happens, well see my
introduction for that.

- When Spikey acts up say "we should initiate a manual control bypass to
reverse the phase polarity of the interface grid and ten use the transporter
  to reintegrate Beatrice's DNA molecules".
= Click on the cryochamber with the LOOK-Icon (other icons could kill her)
= Set the chamber on 10 seconds defrost
  = Now open the chamber
= Pick up Beatrice and put her on the transporter (Cliffy will do the rest)

  Beatrice is saved now.

- Now go back to the bridge and sit on your chair.

- = Press the yellow button
= Order WD40 to scan for ships and she'll tell you that the Goliath is
    near Gingivitis.
= Order Droole to lay in a course for Gingivitis.
= Once you get there press the green button as quickly as you can and
order Cliffy to cloak the ship (you'll be dead if you don't).
= As soon as you got the Goliath in your screen go to the engenering room.

- Cliffy will explain the mission head. He'll also show you a scan of the
Goliath. Look at all sections and Cliffy will note one where there's
the least ammount of Pukoid activity. So that part of the Goliath will be
  our target.

Okay, before we start on this first a little checklist.
You must have
= The laser gun (from Cliffy's toolbox)
= The plug (also from Cliffy's toolbox)
= You must have given the Nitrogen cans to Cliffy.

When that's all sorted go to the pod room, rotate it enter it, and let's go
to the Goliath.

= Point the spot Cliffy recommended before.
= Open the pod with the red button
= Use the lasergun to make yourself a way in.

If you picked the wrong spot a lot of Pukoids will appear. If nothing
happens, you did it right and you can enter the Goliath.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| The Goliath | IDX0A |
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Okay, now we are in the Lion's den, and mistakes can be fatal here.

- = First of all stay where you are, and a pukoid will appear. Wait until he's
    gone.
  = Examine the panel
= Put the warp drive back into the machine
= Click outside the picture to see the engine room again
= Wait for the pukoid to come and leave.
= When he's gone run to the door and exit northh

- Okay, wandering through these corridors will only attract Pukoids, so
open the grating to get in the area below

- Okay, now at least you won't be seen. But this place is a maze.
The object is to reach a switch located on level 2 (you are now on level 8).

Let's do it

LEVEL 8:
= North
= West (nice for a packman chase. You'll end up east) :D
= North
= Save now and head north

You'll be in the elevator shaft. When the elevator goes over you you're dead.
Try different opeings until you reach level 6.

LEVEL 6:
= South
= West
= North x2
= East
= North
= North

Another elevator shaft. Try to get on level 4

LEVEL 4:
= South
= West
= North
= West
= North
= West
= North
= North to get in the final elevator shaft.

Try to go to level 2

LEVEL 2:
The final level at last
= South
= West
= South x2
= East
= South

You've reached your destination. Press the switch and some Pukoids will get
you out and hand you over to Quirk. Now WD40 comes to save you.

- When you get control over the game again:
= Wait for the Pukoids until they are all on the transporter
= When they are all set click with the order icon on Cliffy.

After then when Flo asks, beam back to the Eureka.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Go to the bridge and sit on the chair

- = Order Droole to fire at Quirk (or what's left of him)
= When it tries to attack you, order Droole to activate the RRS.
  = Press the red button
  = Activate the self destructor
= Go to the transporter room

- = Get Bea out of her chamber
= Try to beam out, but due to a short circuit it fails.
  = Exit north

- Enter the tube back right

- = Remove the fuse front center
= Place the fuse you got from Cliffy's box in stead
  = Leave

- Go to the transporter room. (Quirk is easy to dodge)

- = Get Spike out of his cage
  = Stand on the transporter
  = ENERGIZE!

a complete workout of that part, that I will copy into this FAQ (I may alter
your lay-out to make it fit with the rest) and even credit you for your
trouble. This also goes for alternate boss techniques.

AND NEVER FORGET TO TELL ME WHICH FAQ OF MINE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!
I get a lot of mails in which I must guess which FAQ it is we're talking
about, and since I'm very busy as a contributor for GameFAQs, and ocasionally
other sites, I have quite a lot of FAQs here. So it will help me a lot when
I know which FAQ/Game it is you're talking about. :)

And one last thing. Below are remarks I got a lot about my FAQs. Some are
funny, and some are just plainly too stupid for words. I don't want to be
an arrogant bastard or anything, but some of them tire me a lot.

So here are those mails with my standard replies:

  M: Fix your English
A: Some people say they hardly hear the diffrence between me and an
English speaking fellow. Others say it sucks. Well, I honestly don't
care in which category you are. English is NOT my first language. If
I spoke my own language you probably couldn't read my FAQs at all.

M: HEY IDIOT! FIX YOUR FAQ!
A: Anyone who sends mail like this won't receive a reply. In fact they
will be banned from ever mailing me again. I can understand you do not
agree with my technique. There are as many as there are people. I can
also agree you detected that I made a mistake. Well, I'm human you know.
Making mistakes is part of my nature, as much as it's yours. If you
detect errors in my FAQ you can tell me about it in a civil way, and
I'll fix it if I agree with you.

M: Are you a man? A woman? How old are you? Where do you live?
A: I really got that kind of mails a lot. I don't mind that you know.
I was quite amused by such mails actually.
Well, my name is Jeroen Broks. I'm not going to give my private adres
in this FAQ or anywhere else on the internet, but you may know that
I live in the Netherlands, I am a man, and I was born in 1975. So on
the moment I started on this version of this FAQ I was 33 years old.

  M: Fsdasdadasf afsdfasd afdfsaf
A: Whatever you say I don't understand it. If you mail me, please only do
so in either English or Dutch or if you really need in German.
(Be perpared that if you speak German to me, you might get an answer in
     English, tough).
I don't speak any other language.

M: May I translate your FAQ into another language?
A: If you ask my permission, mostly no problem

M: Why is Neoseeker banned from hosting your FAQs?
A: That's something between me and Neoseeker. I don't find it necesary to
go into detail about that. I noted it in my FAQs to make sure they
will never pop up there unnoticed. So don't mail me about it
cause I won't answer. I got very good reasons for it. That's all you
     need to know.

And so far this FAQ. I hope you have good use for it!
