Shattered Horizon is a first in an already saturated First Person Shooter game
market. Once you think you've played them all, Futuremark Games Studio goes and
makes the first and only FPS game that is played completely in zero gravity. If
you're like me, you may be skeptical as to control and gameplay at first, but
give the game a shot and you'll fall in love with it like I did. The controls
work flawlessly and they are incredibly simple to learn.

The radar in the bottom of the screen is very important for survival. It is in
the shape of a globe and it does react based on the direction that you are
currently facing. The red circles are enemies and the color of your team,
either yellow or blue, is obviously your teammates. The full circles are people
in front of you and the empty circles are people behind you. If there is an
enemy in the top half of the globe behind you, simlpy look straight up so you
spin around completely. It's slightly shorter than turning side to side and
hopefully the enemy will react differently thinking to aim at your head so if
you spin upside down they will be aiming at your feet.

There are three game modes in Shattered Horizon, they are Skirmish, Assault,
and Battle. Below, I will describe each one:

     Skirmish
Skirmish is your typical team deathmatch type round. There is only team
deathmatch and not a deathmatch mode. There aren't any kill limits,
your team just has to have more kills when the timer is up. In order to
win, you don't only want to kill as much as you can, you want to
survive as long as you can as well so the other team won't get kills.

     Assault
Assault is your attack and defend type round. One team the attackers
while the other team is the defenders. Your goal isn't necessarily to
score as many kills in these rounds, it is to make sure that you do
your task. If you are a defender, do all you can to prevent the enemy
teams from capturing your points. If you are attacking, do everything
you can to capture enemy points.

     Battle
Battle is a round where you have to capture all the command points on a
map, think of the Battlefield games. You have to hold all the capture
points to win the round so fight for those capture points! If most of
your team is attacking, you should try to defend because it doesn't do
much good to capture points and leave your points unguarded.

There is actually a rank system. They don't mention much of it in game other
than listing each players rank on the scoreboard, but they do show your
progress rank on their website. The current rank system is based on points.
Below, you can find each rank and their requirements. There is no bonus to each
rank other than basically bragging rights.

Recruit 0 Points
Technician 120 Points
Engineer 400 Points
Astronaut 900 Points
EVA Specialist 1500 Points
Corporal 2500 Points
Sergeant 3900 Points
Lieutenant 5700 Points
Captain 7700 Points
Commander 10000 Points

There are only three different types of grenades in this game and they are all
very important to your success. The game briefly describes each one in the F1-
F3 help screens but I think I can help by describing each one in more depth.
Just remember that you have to cycle through these. It will start on Ice and
when you join a server. If you change it to another grenade, say EMP, it will
stay on that after you respawn until you change grenades or leave the server.
Basically, it'll stay on your last used grenade but it will start on Ice when
you join a server.

  ICE
      Cover from sight and radar
You will notice a big cloud of smoke when you fire these. They are basically
smoke grenades except the game calls them ice grenades. These grenades are
great when there are enemies trying to snipe you or several enemies shooting
at you at once. Shoot one in their general direction and try to fly away to
survive. You can also use these as a great cover to flank enemies.

  EMP
      Disable and stun enemy
These grenades are great to mess with the enemy you're shooting at. Don't
think these are a sure fire plan to kill enemies because they can still aim
and shoot at you while they are under these effects, they just can't turn as
easily and they will be stuck floating in the direction they were prior to
the grenade. If an enemy is chasing you through small gaps in the asteroids,
these are great to fire at them to buy some time to escape. Also if you are
concerned with your accuracy when shooting the tanks off the enemies' backs,
fire one of these at them to make it very difficult for them to fully turn
   around to aim at you.

  MPR
      Knock enemies away
The knockback grenades may look like they do some damage but they don't. I
personally don't like these too much but they do have some use. They are
great when there is a group of enemies in one area to separate them. They
are also great if you can aim them perfectly to fire people off the map and
into micrometeors. That's about it though. It will knock enemies away but
you have to be pretty accurate with them and they can still easily shoot at
you while they are being knocked back.

Winning!!
The point of the game isn't for the individual to have the highest score, it
is for the team to win. Don't be greedy and try to go lone wolf because it
doesn't work out very well too often. Stick together and focus on the
objectives. I realize that the deathmatch rounds, you want to just kill as
many as possible but in assault rounds, focus on those capture points!

Playing Offense
When playing in battle or offense on assault, you want to capture points.
However, you don't want to go in on kamikaze missions and keep killing
yourself. Play it smart and make sure the area is clear at the moment. Fight
in teams so that you can capture the points quicker. A good strategy could
be to fire an ice grenade just past the capture point to blind the enemy
   while you capture it.

Playing Defense
When playing battle or defense on assault, you want to defend capture
points. Pay attention to your surroundings and keep an eye all over the
place. If there are a lot of teammates here, you can defend another point or
try to flank the enemy team's offense. A great way to mess with the enemy
trying to capture a capture point is a well placed MPR grenade to blast them
all out of the capture zone.

Capture Points
Pay attention to the capture points in the top right corner of your screen
on the HUD. If there is a small dot below a capture point, that means a
member of that team is at that capture point. If there are multiple dots,
that just shows how many enemies are there. Also note that you can't attack
capture points at the complete opposite end of the map. You have to control
capture points leading to the enemy base before you can capture points deep
   in the enemy base.

Burst Fire
You will soon find that just holding your fire button unless very close
simply will not do the trick. You have to fire shots in bursts and if you
are accurate, you will win most of the fights. Shoot 3-5 shots before
stopping to let the recoil drop and then fire another burst of bullets. This
is almost deadly accurate even at long distances.

Grenades
Grenades are very useful even though they don't do any damage. Take a look
in the section above this one to get more acquainted with each one. You
don't want to shoot the grenades at enemies unless you are trying to get
away. Most of the time, you will get killed if you are trying to just
distract them and then quickly shoot them. Try to be prepared and have the
correct grenade on your weapon before you initiate contact.

Ghosting
This is when you turn your suit off completely. All the lights go off and
the volume is lowered since your suit simulates the sounds around you. You
can still slowly move in different directions but the movements are very
minimal. This is a great feature to use when trying to sneak up on people or
even at long distances. Enemies also won't get that red outline around you
if your suit is off. That's actually very helpful because some people won't
shoot unless they see that red outline thinking you're their teammate.

Gliding
Similar to ghosting but you don't actually turn your suit off. The enemy can
still get that red outline around you that you can avoid with ghosting but
your suit won't light up as bright since your jetpack won't light up the
area. It gives you the stealth advantage but also gives you a quick ability
to run or move to a better position since your suit takes time to boot up if
   you turn your suit off.

Sniper Scope
The sniper scope is actually very powerful. When in the scope mode, your
shots will actually fire off ten rounds at once. One well placed shot will
easily kill any enemy. The main problem with the scope is it can be
difficult to aim with. It's very hard to aim while gliding so your best bet
is to find a good vantage point, land there, and use the scope. Let it
settle for a second and then start to shoot.

Landing
Your astronaut will aim much better when you are standing on an asteroid.
However, the problem is that you can't move nearly as quickly so enemies
flying around you can easily pick you off. Landing is great for sniping or
when in a tight area like around some buildings so that people can't shoot
   you from all directions.

Flanking
The fact that you can go all over the place, above the asteroid, below it,
to the sides, through crevices, flanking is actually pretty simple. Your
best chance to kill is when enemies don't see you. You can easily one shot
enemies by scoring head shots or tank shots. Another good strategy while
flanking is to use an EMP grenade. Since their suit turns off, it's a lot
harder to turn around so by the time they turn around to shoot you, they
   should already be dead.

Reloading
You only get one weapon in this game but it at least has unlimited ammo! You
don't get unlimited grenades however. If you are done shooting at an enemy
and have some cover and it is quiet around you, reload! There's no sense in
floating around with a half empty clip only to regret it later. Just make
sure you have time and space to reload, don't reload while others are still
   shooting at you!

Using Cover
If you are going to stay on the ground, try to make use of the cover. The
terrain makes some great cover but the maps also have small buildings on the
asteroids themselves. You can also easily fly behind most of them and can
also fly behind smaller asteroids that are floating around the main asteroid
   in the map.

Keep an Eye on the Radar
Obviously the best survival tactic is always knowing where the enemy is. The
radar is your first step because it can show you where enemies are that you
can't see. You can easily find out if enemies are behind you or to the sides
of you if you just keep an eye on the radar.

Keep Track of Enemies Behind Cover
When you shoot some enemies you will notice a small red outline around them.
If they go behind terrain, buildings, or objects, you will notice a small
red outline will follow them. Use this to your advantage so you know where
they will pop up and where to aim.

This section will be fairly difficult to describe since there's really no sense
of direction since it is all in zero gravity which obviously means no north or
south or even up or down. Bear with me as I simlpy describe key points. I will
mainly focus on describing the capture points since skirmish modes are
basically just flying around and killing enemies as you see them.

Battle Capture Points:

A - This capture point is basically the spawn of the MMC team. You can attack/
defend from the outside but there is also a couple of paths from the
inside that can approach this capture point.

B - This capture point is on the side of the asteroid in an area with a couple
of buildings. There are two ways to enter here from inside the asteroid
while there is the typical approach from the outside. It's in a pretty
tight room so there's lots of cover at this capture point. You can
actually capture this point from just outside the fence looking the
      inside of the asteroid.

C - This capture point is on the side of an asteroid in an area where there
are a couple of buildings. You have to watch the big open side at the
end of the asteroid because this is the most obvious and open way to
to attack. There is also a wall with the controller there with a hall so
make sure people aren't coming from that hall or over that wall.

D - This capture point is in the big hole in the center of the asteroid with
the large structure going through it. There aren't any crevices from the
sides here so the only way to attack this capture point is from above or
      below.

E - This capture point is similar to capture point C. There's a hall in the
wall to the side of it you need to watch but you mainly need to watch the
outside of the asteroid. Also keep an eye above you because there's a gap
in the asteroid where the top of the reactor sticks out which enemies can
      fit through.

F - This capture point is similar to capture point B. It's in a small room
with cover but enemies can approach from several directions. Watch the
hall and the small hole in the fence along with the outside of the
asteroid. You can actually capture this point from just outside the fence
looking the inside of the asteroid.

G - This capture point is basically the spawn of the ISA team. You can attack/
defend from the outside but there is also a couple of paths from the
inside that can approach this capture point.

Assault Capture Points:

G - This capture point is around the center of the asteroid. You have to enter
the crevices to reach it and it has a little niche for cover you can go
      in.

E - There's a hall in the wall to the side of it you need to watch but you \
mainly need to watch the outside of the asteroid. Also keep an eye above
you because there's a gap in the asteroid where the top of the reactor
sticks out which enemies can fit through.

D - This capture point is in the big hole in the center of the asteroid with
the large structure going through it. There aren't any crevices from the
sides here so the only way to attack this capture point is from above or
      below.

A - This capture point is basically the spawn of the defending team. You can
attack/defend from the outside but there is also a couple of paths from
the inside that can approach this capture point.

Capture Points A, B, C, and D are all available in Battle mode. In Assault
mode, Capture Point B below is A, Capture Point C is B, and Capture Point D is
C.

A - This capture point is at one end of the large satellite dish. There is a
floor and a set of walls around it along with a large steel beam
structure looking to the center of the satellite. You're best off landing
on the floor and defending/attacking from here.

B - This capture point has a large asteroid on top of it and will be on a
small platform. The asteroid provides some cover from above but that's
really all the cover in the area. You can easily approach this capture
      point from any angle.

C - This capture point is very close to capture point B. It has a lot of cover
since it is a storage area. There are a few walls you can use for cover
along with several storage containers in the area. There is a ceiling and
a floor to this area so you can focus on the sides for enemies.

D - This capture point is at one end of the large satellite dish. There's a
wall on one side with a lot of steel beams all around to provide for some
cover. It makes it difficult to attack because it obscures your vision.
It's a little easier to defend because you will know if enemies are
      there.

The Arc
________________________________________

These capture points are the same for Battle and Assault modes.

A - This capture point is by a small space station. There isn't much cover
here so pay attention when attacking. You can hide between the landing
pad and the asteroid when in trouble.

B - This capture point is almost in the deac center of the map. As you know
from the map, there are small asteroids all over and it is placed on a
      small asteroid.

C - This capture point is on a big asteroid at the end of the Arc. It has a
small platform on it and the terrain around the platform acts as some
      cover.

Flipside
________________________________________

Capture Points A, B, and C are the only three capture points in Assault mode.
Capture Points A, B, C, and D are all available in Battle mode.

A - This capture point will be surrounded by small buildings. You have to be
in the small hall of the building to capture it. It's on the edge of the
asteroid so people can flank by floating around one side of the asteroid
or they can sneak through the maze of buildings on the other side.

B - This capture point is in the same area but across the asteroid as capture
point A. There are some buildings around it but there's a crevice in
between the two. It is also on the edge of the asteroid which means it
can be flanked from underneath. Behind it, looking away from capture
point A, is also a hill which acts as great cover for more enemies to
      approach it from.

C - This capture point is below the asteroid looking at it from the same
perspective as capture points A and B. This capture point is next to the
edge of the map and by a crevice. That is basically all there is for
cover here though as the platform this capture point is the only one
      within a few hundred feet.

D - This capture point is also below the asteroid in the same respect as
capture point C. There are a lot of platforms around this area along with
a crevice next to it so there is a lot of cover when approaching this
      capture point.

it. Please don't send any attachments or I will immediately delete the e-mail
without opening it. I have recently received a virus through an e-mail and was
forced to reformat and I'm not going to go through that again.

Things/How to E-Mail me about:
-What you think about this guide.
-If you need any additional help or clarification.
-Some tips for maps or strategies that aren't in this guide.
-Anything you think would be a good addition to this guide.
-Make sure your subject indicates you're trying to contact me about this game.
-Just a simple thanks!

Things/How NOT to E-Mail me about:
-Things that don't have anything to do with the game.
-Anything that is already clearly discussed in this guide.
-Any file attachments.
-With really bad grammar! I understand that for some people, English isn't
their first language but that doesn't mean you should send me something
completely unreadable because you're too lazy to use punctuations or spaces.
If I can't understand what you're trying to say, your e-mail will be ignored.
