Drag mode is pretty much the same found in many other Need for Speed titled with a few differences. This guide explores them and will hopefully allow you to play this mode effectively. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.1 About Drag Mode ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Drag mode in Need for Speed World is pretty much the same in real life and in other games. Drivers must line up and sprint in the straight line or a straight enough track or curve and depending on how well drivers change and switch gears, it will improve the accelaration to allow their vehicles to go faster and hitting the highest speeds, hitting the finish line before anyone else. This mode is the latest in Need for Speed World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.0 Gameplay ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The gameplay is almost the same as in the other Need for Speed titles and drag in real life. You line up in a line against other racers and hit the shifting at the right mark in the gear ratios to improve accelaration and this accelaration help your vehicle at faster speed which will help you win races. Even thou this MMO has Power-Ups in the game, this mode doesn't use them. So no nitro, slingshots, traffic magnet and etc. Unlike racing, you cannot steer as freely as you think. Pressing the right or left key will just allow you to change and shift between lanes during the event. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 Controls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Left Shift = Shift Up Left Control = Shift Down Up = Accelaration Down = Brake Right = Change into Right Lane Left = Change into Left Lane E = Look back ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 How To Shift ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the Left hand side of the screen is a speed gauge. It's the same revolutions as the gauge found on the bottom left of the screen. This is there because it's easy to look straight ahead. There four zones where you can shift between in, they're marked by colour zones and hitting the shift up key will allow you to shift the gears up. Depending on the zones where you hit the shift keys, will affect your speed for your vehicles when you are shifting them. Colour = Meaning = Effect Blue = Under Shift = Not really good enough, not a good time to shift Yellow = Good Shift = Not so bad, it's good. Could do better thou! Green = Prefect Shift = Will give you a bonus in speed, the best line in winning races. Red = Over Rev = Will lose alot of speed depsite being at a high speed. Before you begin the race. You can power your engine and line the RPM needle towards the green or yellow marker. Allowing your neddle to hit the Green mark, will give you a PERFECT START. From here, you will noticed that everytime you shift up, the perfect shifting zone will slowly become slower thus making it more challenging waiting for the right time to shift up everytime. The event ends when you cross the finish line. When the first player crosses the finish line, the rest of the racers have 10 seconds to finish the event. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.3 Rewards ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Something worth noting! Considering that the this mode is really short compared to other modes in the game, this mode is the best mode to pick up as much rewards you can possibly can. Even thou the lobby is still around 55 seconds long, after finishing an event, which is around 10 to 20 seconds will take you to the rewards screen and to select a card. If you put it this way, you can pretty much farm rewards in a fast rate. It's not a nice way to view this mode but players can benefit the Drag mode this way. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.4 Missing Features? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What this game mode hasn't that other NFS title has! If they will be added, I don't know, but it's worth noting. My best guess is because it's an MMO, it's more about playing the events. If EA will add these, I don't know. My best advice is that feel free to ask in the forum if you want these if you want them and see what happens. No Totalling Feature: You cannot total/crash your vehicle into another vehcile thus ending the race, It would be great if that happened thou but it wouldn't really encourage good sportmanship considering that this is an MMO. No traffic availible: A hint if they will be, because the menu when you select an event states that the tracks don't feature traffic. I don't know if these will be added but it would be interesting to see them get added and see what would happen. In the previous Need for Speed games that featured Drag, hitting into traffic will total your vehicle, thus ending the race. No Blown Engine Moments: Leaving the accelarator active and not shift up while hitting the RPM needle will usually result in blowing your engine, thus ending the race. This MMO doesn't allow it. You can enter an race and drive in 1st while you've floored the accelarator. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.5 Ramming ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ramming, it still exists compared to the single player racing! They do it for the fun of it and it's not against the rules or anything but it doesn't have much of an effect. This pretty much takes the men from the boys. If ramming it's still a good idea, it doesn't This mode actually doesn't encourage ramming! Compared to races, where there traffics, cars and etc. This being the drag mode means that it really would show a lack of sportmanship if you ran other players. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.6 Auto/Manual Selection ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This option is found in the Lobby before you start an event. This allows you to select between Manual or Automatic gear selection. The advangate is that manual selection allows you to have more control to shift gears and hitting the perfect shift gives you a better advantage. Selecting Automatic will just allow you to perform a good shift. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.7 Skill Mods ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These mods are only effective in Drag mode and it's events. There's marked in red compared to the other skill mods found in the game. Aero Drag Reduction - Optimzation to improve performance in Drag races. This skill doesn't have any performance improvements. Gear Radio Enhancement - Increases Good and perfect Shift ranges by XX % in Drag Races. Depending if this mod has more stars, the better it's performance. Launch Grip - Improves initial launch speed by XX % in Drag races. Depending if this mod has more stars, the better it's performance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.0 About Drag Vehicles ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There alot of Drag edition vehicles released in the game so far. Most of them feature parachutes and wheelie bars at the rear. The parachutes and wheelie bars are just for decoration and don't work or anything. They do feature some skill mods just for Drag mode, which allows you to effectively win these modes. A few of these vehicles can be found in the car dealer aswell as many other ways, like winning them in competitions or getting them in starter packs If you own a vehicle, considering yourself lucky to have them because they're really nice vehicles! Keep an eye out of these vehicles if you really want them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.0 Drag Events *Coming Soon* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Coming Soon* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.0 Turning off Sticky Keys ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Windows OS users. Make sure you take off your sticky when playing this mode because it will lock you from the game and you wouldn't be able to play this mode the way it's intended. To make sure you have the sticky key function operated, press shift five times on your keyboard. This will allow you to play the game without getting interrupted by Windows minimizing the game telling you to activate your sticky keys during the game when you play during the Manual mode. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.0 Contact/Other Info ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any other contributions, you can email them to me.
