In | - Version History | case you don't know, MapleStory is a MMORPG. That |_______________________| stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. That means an Online strategy game that allows you to interact with other players thru the Internet. To start, you go to nexon.net on the Internet. You can look on to check what MapleStory is. If you already know, you're probably bored, so let's get started, shall we! This guide is all about MapleStory. How to play it, item lists, reccocmended job paths, etc. Each section is divided by the little border right there. It will show from up left to down right: roman numeral, CTRL F icon, completion status, summing it up, name of the section, date started, and date completed. OK, a few final things before I start the guide. First off, don't steal this guide. You may not use this guide, and sell it or claim it as your own. You can not put it on your site without my permission. To do that, go to the Contact section near the end of the guide. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping me (and you) stay clear of trouble. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / what's new? \ \ \ ( Ia. / / \ \ December, 17 / \ [VRH] /-/ |-| 2007 / | / / Version History \ \ / /CONT. / / /-/ to / | /-/ what's new? / / | | / / / / December, 17 | \_____/ /_______________Introduction_________/ /________2007____/ =============== - Started guide ==Version 0.5== - Finished I. and VII., II., and part of III. =============== =============== - Added more information in Part III. ==Version 0.6== - Editted Henesys PQ to link so it cleans up this guides =============== format. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / learn the basics ... \ \ \ ( II. / / \ \ December, 17 / \ [BSC] /-/ |-| 2007 / | / / BASICS \ \ / /COMPLETE / / /-/ to / | /-/ learn the basics ... / / | | / / / / December, 19 | \_____/ /____________________________________/ /________2007____/ _____|____|_______________ | This chapter contains: | Every Mapler starts out as a n00b. Or not, noob, | - Basics | a newbie. In case you don't know, newb means | - Account | newbie. N00b is, well, a noob. It may sound like | - Controls | newb, but it's much different. Newb is someone | - Menus | new to the game, and is usually said to new or |________________________| inexperienced characters. Noob means anyone who acts a bit foolish, or sometimes just to be rude. Newb most the time is not offensive, and n00b or noob usually is (although there are people who confuse them) But anyways, I drone on - let's begin to learning the basics, so you AREN'T a n00b anymore. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / so, how do we work this thing?\ \ \ ( IIa. / / \ \ December, 17 / \ [ACC] /-/ |-| 2007 / | / / ACCOUNT \ \ / /COMPLETE / / /-/ to / | /-/ so, how do we work this thing? / / | | / / / / December, 17 | \_____/ /_____________Basics_________________/ /________2007____/ So ... you want to play MapleStory, eh? But you finally finish with the long but seemingly worthy download - is it time? But, you need an account to register, what a rip-off. But luckily, an account is free and usually quite painless, at least in comparison of that download. Well, first off, you go to Register on 'www.nexon.net' without the apostrophes and simply that. Then, you enter the information. You are then ready to play! Although I do sound like your parent, do not share your password or username (you have a seperate name in game, don't worry) with anyone, whether online, your parents, your brother, your sister, your best-friend-who-can-seemingly- keep-a-secret-but-somehow-ends-up-telling-the-whole-neighborhood, anyone. If you must, write it down, or type it in a super secret spot. Woot, now you can open MapleStory back up! Type in your User-Name and Password. You will first have to set a PIN, Personal Indentification Number. Emphasis on Personal. Again, do not tell this to ANYONE, this more importantly than the password. Your PIN should be something that you know easily that someone else cannot figure out. A good PIN shouldn't contain any: - telephone, fax, birthday numbers/fragments of numbers - a pattern (ie, 1234) (ie, 2468) - a string of numbers (ie, 0000) (ie, 6666) - address Here are a few examples of PINs. 3842 (Good) 3456 (OK) 5555 (Bad) So pick your PIN wisely. Right it down or type it in a secret spot. Now, you must choose a gender. You might think it doesn't matter, but oh yes it does. In game you choose between a girl and a boy - that makes more difference than it seems. Boys and Girls wear seperate clothes - most of them are different simply by looks. But some make a grand difference with stats and levels. For example, a Beginner Boy can wear a certain type of shoes, and the Beginner Girl cannot. Also - if you choose a gender and decide to get married/crush ring, then that means unless they happen to be the wrong gender, you're pretty much going out/married with someone the same gender in real life. If the latter, it means you're a cross dresser. (Joking, but still that's kind of wrong) Luckily you CAN choose up to three characters out of the twenty-four to be the opposite gender. So choosing your gender is best to be your real life gender. Now, choose your gender carefully! Your account is all set up! Now, I'll teach you how to manage post-game. You can manage most your account settings (not character) support things, etc. all under nexon.net. Log in, you can edit your stuff! If you click the MapleStory icon, here's how to get around. Log in using your user name and password and enter your PIN. Now, you'll see eight different posts (they'll grow in time, so there might be more or less) Each world is a different copy of MapleStory. They're all physically the same. But the people there, are different. You cannot interact in any way whatsoever with anyone of a different world. You also CANNOT switch. Scratch that. You can switch. For a REAL LIFE price. It costs a good deal of money - and your buddy list, guild, and money in your bank and storage is all gone. And it also takes about a week to a month for the world switch to work. Here are the different worlds: Scania - this is the most popular world. You can sell stuff for high prices, but you also buy for high prices, and it's laggy and quite crowded. Bera - a deal less crowded and laggy then Scania. The buying and selling prices also go down a great deal. Broa - a medium-high population, little to medium lag (sometimes high or none depending on your computer) The buying and selling prices are average. Windia - a medium population, but still has plenty of people. The buying and selling prices are a bit medium though. Khani - a medium population, basically average in everything, a nice world. Bellocan - a medium-low population, selling and buying prices are a bit low. Might be hard to find people. It's known as a 'hacker' world though, due to the high population of hackers. Mardia - a low population, making it good in terms of finding Party Quests (Explained later) and lag, but bad in terms of group training and higher level Party Quests. Also prices are a bit low, but so are buying prices. Kradia - very low population, making it pretty useless. But it's also peaceful none to little lag and low prices for both buying and selling. Choose your world wisely! You must then choose a channel. Channels are much different, there are ninteen (again, depend on time you play and version) channels. Each one can be switched, and characters made there are not forced to be there, you can even switch in-game. 1 is the most popular, and 2, 3 and 19 are about half as popular, the rest are not too popular. Then, you have your Character screen! You can create a new character, delete one, or play it. Let's create your first character! Start by clicking 'New Character' and then you'll get to choose. You start out with hair. You cannot change your hair without a price, real world price (2 and a half American dollars for a random, 5 American dollars for a choice, and then same price again to dye it) so choose what you like. Same thing with the eyes, and skin color. (I personally like the Disheveled, second eyes, and the second white skin) Then, you get to choose your weapon, clothes, and shoes. Clothes do not matter, as they will be changed soon enough, though you will be stuck with them for about thirty minutes. (Unless you take them off, you'll be stuck with underwear and a T-Shirt though) and same with the shoes. The weapon makes an extremely little difference, only about one or two more damage if you choose the club. So what you choose here does not matter. I explained your gender earliar on - you can only make three opposite genders, and then there's the name. Each person per world must have a unique name. If you have a simple name, like IceWizard or something, it's going to be taken. So either get a complicated name, like SuperStrongIceWizard, or something with a number, like IceWizard233. Some names can be used to advantages, like to help avoid tracking. (a lower case L and a capital I look the same, as does the up and down mark |, and things like \/\/ instead of a W) but make little difference again. You cannot change your name, except of course, for a real world price, and it also takes a week to a month for it to work, anyways. Finally, it's the all important, evil, DICE. The DICE determines your stats, it's always what messes up new guys. If you want you can ignore it and just play for fun, but you will be somewhat weaker. You can always create a new character, don't forget it. If you want to be a certain class, you must get a certain roll. If you want to create a serious character, go ahead to the class section. When you're done, click OK and you're ready to roll. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / soaking it in with baby steps \ \ \ ( IIb. / / \ \ December, 17 / \ [CTL] /-/ |-| 2007 / | / / CONTROLS \ \ / /COMPLETE / / /-/ to / | /-/ soaking it in with baby steps / / | | / / / / December, 18 | \_____/ /________________Basics______________/ /________2007____/ Yeah, you have a characters - how am I supposed to make him move? This section will clear it all up for you! Well, the totally awesome feature of MapleStory is getting to choose your own controls. Yes, it's completely up to you. You could play with whatever you want on your keyboard. You could even play with a joystick if you wanted! (But that's some complicated stuff, let's not get into that) First off, let's learn the extreme basics. You press left and right to move, well, left and right. You can crouch with down. You can stand in front of a rope, and press up to move up. Keep pressing to continue moving up, press down to slide down. Press Up near a portal (a shiny purplish beam of light) to go to the next map. On a rope, you can go up or down. You can jump and hang on to a rope if you want. If you press left or right, and press jump, you'll jump off. You can very slightly control your fall. If you fall too much ... you lose HP, so be careful how high your jumps are. Well, in game with a character, press the button on your keyboard the looks like this, above the enter/return, below the Backspace. \ with a | on top of that. Press it to manage your controls. You can also go there from the button on the bottom right corner. Here you have a virtual keyboard - you can drag and drop what you want. The default has ALT for Jump, CTRL for Attack, and then various hot keys for quickly opening menus - most corresponding to its first letter. (ie, Quest is the Q key) Now, you click something, and drop it on the space you want it. Simple! Some things cannot be moved, like Scroll Lock. If you go over a space that's already taken, it goes away forever! Joking, it goes below the keyboard where a few slots are. You can put them there if you want it off your keyboard so it doesn't distrub you. Now, here's an awesome thing - you can put ITEMS on your keyboard! Yes, you can put Potions, which is HIGHLY RECCOCMENDED, chairs, etc. on your keyboard, so you don't have to open the menu, find the desired object, and double click it. It can be an in-game lifesaver - literally. If you're facing a fearsome monster, and your HP is running low, you don't have time to open the menu find it and click twice. But you can press it, and ka-bam. Healed. You can also do it with skills, which is almost a must (since after level 20, you'll almost always use a skill rather than a normal attack) If you press the ] with a } on top key, right beside the control manager key, you'll find a quick access thing. It has the SHIFT button, CTRL button, and the six keys above the arrow keys (Insert, Home, Page Up, Delete, End, Page Down) which can be accessed if you play like I do. I find it easy to have one hand on the arrow keys, and one hand on the space with CTRL and ALT. That way, I have the jump, attack, and enter key with easy access on my left hand, and I can put a skill/item on Shift and the Space Bar with also easy access. With my right hand I move my character with the arrow keys, and can access an item, potion, or skill on the six keys above it. You can find your own methods to play - so experimenting is the best way to find the best control! ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / ordering your food, not in \ \ \ ( IIc. / / this case ... \ \ December, 18 / \ [CTL] /-/ |-| 2007 / | / / MENUS \ \ / /COMPLETE / / /-/ to / | /-/ ordering your food, not in this / / | | / / case ... / / December, 19 | \_____/ /________________Basics______________/ /________2007____/ So, you know the basics and the controls. What else is there to do? Well, here's all the menus! -\ /- --Quest Menu-- -/ \- Quests are tasks given in game that require you to fullfill a certain requirement in exchange for a reward. If you double click an NPC, you can start and end a quest. The Quest Menu is an easy tool that you can manage and keep track of your quests with. There are multiple continents: Maple Island, Victoria Island, Ossyria, and Masteria. These and Events make up the different sortings for Quests. You can organize your list of quests by clicking the - (minus) symbol to make that continent not appear on your Quest List, or press the + (plus) to open it again. Your list is also organized by Quest Avalible (ones that you have not yet started, but your requiements for starting it are fulfilled) Quests in Progress (quests you're in the middle of doing) and Completed (ones you have done already) You can go through the lists by clicking those respective buttons at the top of the window. If you click on a quest, you can see a short sum up of what you need to do, or what you need to do or have done, in other cases. If it's In Progress, you can Resign the quest by clicking Resign, where you WILL have to start all over if you do it. The Quest Helper is a neat little transparent box that is small and snug. If you click the Quest Helper from a quest, it is added to a little transparent box. It shows you neatly how much more of a certain item you need to collect, or what you have. -\ /- --World Map-- -/ \- The World Map isn't of much use, but it's a nice little feature to find how to get around. World Map can be activated by click WORLD on the Mini-Map, or by pressing W on the keyboard with default controls. Opening it up will open a somewhat bigger window with a detailed world map. Each blue dot is a street. Hover over a town or street to get the name. The World Map does not work in anywhere outside of Maple Island or Victoria Island. -\ /- --Equipment Menu-- -/ \- Equipment is the core of MapleStory. You get to look different, attack depending on your weapon, and affect your stats. Without it, you'd be a weakling. You can also manage pets. You have to open the Item Menu too. Here, you'll see a diagram of yourself, and various boxes. Drag and drop an Equipment Item (from the Equipment section of items) and it'll be on you. This also applies for Pet, by clicking the right button you can see your pet and taming animal. Note! There is a glitch that happens if you press the HP Pet button without dropping anything, you will disconnect. Some people might scam you into doin it [Hey, buddy! Clicking the HP Pet button will give you an attack boost!] Just ignore it. To remove an item, simply double click it. It'll return to it's rightful spot in it's items. If you have Equipment, it doesn't count as an item, so if you Equip, it saves room. -\ /- --Item Menu-- -/ \- This is probably the most important menu of them all - the Items. Items are a key part of the game, they decide what happens and special effects that can make a huge difference! For starters, if you press I or the Items tab from the menu, you'll open it up. There are five different sections: Equip, Item, Set-Up, Etc., and Cash. Double click an item to use it. Drag it away from the window to drop it (with an ARE YOU SURE? message) At the bottom of the window is a Coin, and then a number. This is the amount of Mesos you have. Mesos are the currency of MapleStory. In the world, they come in different values. A bronze coin is valued 10-49 mesos (less than 10 cannot be dropped by a person) A gold coin is valued 50-99 mesos. Paper bills stacked are worth 100-999 mesos. A sack is worth 1,000-50,000 mesos. You won't ever find more than 50,000 without hacking. Click the coin button to open a window that shows how much you want to drop. Be careful, because you can't get it back unless you pick it up again! The Equipment items are items that you can Equip. Open up the Equipment menu and drag and drop an Equip from the item box, to the Equipment Box to Equip it. Double click it to use it faster. The Use Items are items that can be used for an effect. The most common are foods and potions. Double click it to use it immediatley, or drag and drop it to either the eight key menu, or the Control Manager to use it on quick access. The Set-Up items are miscelaneous objects. These are mainly chairs. Chairs can be set up, and if you don't move for a while, heal your HP and MP faster than normal. You can also get certain event items in here. The Misc. items are items that mostly cannot be used or fit into any of the other categories. These are mainly monster drops. Some can be used, however, by double clicking. Cash Shop is a real-world cash payer that gives you extra money. Click the Red Cash Shop button to go there and look around. You can charge money by going to your account. I will not go too deeply into this, as it is really simple. This is where all of it is stored. -\ /- --Party Manager-- -/ \- Woot! Party! Not really. A Party is a group that can keep in touch and share EXP together. Press P to access it. At the top, you can also quickly access your Buddy List, Guild, and Blacklist (a simple list) To start a Party, select Create a New Party. Then, click Invite and type the person's name in, or right click someone and select INVITE TO PARTY, OR click someone twice and select Add to Party. A lot of choices! If you don't want to start a party, or don't want to be a leader, you can ask to join a party. Someone must invite you first, and you must select OK from the bubble that will pop up. Now, from there you can Invite up to six people, or Expel them. If you are in a party, if you're in the same map, you share EXP, and also get bonus EXP. The killer doesn't get all the EXP, but gets about 1/2, and the other half is split for the others. You also share Mesos in the same manner. Along with that, you get bonus EXP. The best part of Parties is Party Quests. Party Quests are en masse EXP that give you a lot of EXP, which will be explained much later. -\ /- --Buddies Manager-- -/ \- Buddies are, well, buddies. You have their Username, you can check when they log on and off, and you can whisper exclusively to them. Well, that's it I guess. To add them press R, or click Buddies. Type in their name to add to your buddies list. You can only hold up to 20 people, but you can expand your buddy list ... for a price. Go to a certain person (there is one in Lith Harbor, Victoria Island and one in Ludibrium, possibly in more places) -\ /- --Guild Manager-- -/ \- Guild is a fun (yet expensive) thing that you can make. It can be used as an expanded buddy list, to do the Guild PQ, for Zakum runs and Zakum Helmet buying, and some just to have a cool name and emblem under your name tag. To start a guild, one must go to Orbis and head to the upper most left portal. There is the Guild HQ. You can start a guild for only 1 million mesos. You can then expand it a lot of times for up to 100 members. Of course expanding it will cause a pretty penny (make that pennies) You can also add a Guild Emblem, a little icon beside your guidld. That will cost you 5 million mesos though. -\ /- --Stats Manager-- -/ \- Ah, stats. The more in depth thing that gives you power, and defense. Press S to access it. You can see your Stats. No ... well, you can do more than that. You can see your Character information, as well as detailed stats, and most often, raise your stats. Each level, you get 5 stats points. Click HP (Health Points), MP (Magic Points), STR (Strength, DEX (Dexterity), INT (Intelligence), or LUK (Luck). Each one has a different ability. Health Points - increases Max HP. Lose them all and you die. Magic Points - costs these to cast a spell or use a skill Strength - increases attacking capability, and slightly increases Defence and HP. Dexterity - increases accuracy. Also slightly increases avoidibility. Intelligence - raises magical powers, not skills. Also slightly increases your Max MP. Luck - increases avoidibility. Also slightly improves Accuracy. If you die, you lose less EXP than you would if you had less Luck. You raise them carefully. If you look at the classes section, you can see just what to raise. This should clear up the infamous Dice Roll when you first create a character! -\ /- --Skill Manager-- -/ \- Skills, skills, skills. Life revolves around skills. No, really. Skills give you power, and your attacking ability. Actually, it's the only proper way for a Magician to attack. At each level (prior to your first job) you get 3 Skill Points. You hover over a skill to get the information, and add to it. The number is how much Skill Points you have in it. The more skill points, the stronger the attacks! Here's the catch - although it seems you'll get them all in time, you won't. There's more skill points than skill max levels. Ooh. Burn ... You must decide carefully what to do, and that's where builds come in from the Class section. Each Job Advancement you get a new skill book. Click it to see all your skills, awesome! Each different branch of job gives you different skills to learn, your character is your creation! There are three types of skills: Passive, Supportive, and Active. You can tell the difference between the three easily once you know what they are. Passive skills are skills that after you add SP into them, they cast permanent effects on you, usually raised stats like higher MP or higher HP recovery, or better avoidibility. These cannot be turned off. Active skills are skills that can be used immeditately. These are most commonly attacking skills, like Magic Claw, Power Strike, Slash Blast etc., but can also be other non-temporary skills, like Slow on a Wizard. Supportive skills are the best skills that temporarily raise a certain aspect of you, or more importantly (in some skills), your party. A little box appears in the top right corner. A grey rectangle will slowly creep up, and when it's at the top of that skill, it will blink, and then the skill goes away. Some skills have cool-down times, where you have to wait until you can use it again. (it also has a grey rectangle timer) You can also add Macros. Skill macros are simply combined skills in one button instead of three. So rather than pressing three skill buttons, you only need to press the macro. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / no more unemployment line ... \ \ \ ( III. / / \ \ December, 20 / \ [CTS] /-/ |-| 2007 / | / / CLASSES \ \ / /COMPLETE / / /-/ to / | /-/ no more unemployment line ... / / | | / / / / January, 11 | \_____/ /_______________Classes______________/ /________2008____/ So, you wanna get a job, eh? So, what do these guys all do? All past the second job are the same. (ie, though the Second Job classes Bandits and Assassins are different (one uses dagger, the other uses throwing stars) the Third Job Chief Bandit and Hermit are just upgraded forms of those. Warrior -------- Warrior's generally use melee weapons to attack close up, with a few exceptions. Fighter -------- Fighters use one or two hand swords and axes, and 1-Hand uses a Shield, for the cost of power, and 2-Hand has more power for a cost of speed and a shield. They also are best known for their 'Combo Meter', a charged meter that lets them do the Coma and Panic moves, Panic being the most powerful non-elemental damage move over-time. They are also well known for their Rage, a move that boosts Attack for a cost of Defense. They are also known for their Shout, their only ranged move that stuns. Page ----- Pages usually use swords, maces, and occasionally a shield. They are probably the best of the Warriors against monsters with elemental weaknesses (aka, Pianus, one of the 'big 3' bosses as well as many others) Though they don't know any party boosting moves (which is why 2nd Job Pages are often left out) they make it up with their elemental melee moves. They can charge their weapon with Lightninig, Ice, or Fire and then it'll give them an attack boost and an element. They can also choose to let go one final attack - they lose their elemental charge but they get a strong powerful, elemental blow. Spearman --------- Spearmen use the strongest - spears and pole arms for the cost of speed and a shield. Though they do the most raw damage, over time they'll suffer because of their speed. But they are better known for their two party moves one in particular, Hyper Body, which temporarily increases the party's MAXIMUM MP and HP, and Iron Will which will increase their party's defense. A good make-up for Rage's loss of Defense. Magician --------- Magicians use MP to use skills rather than attacks, and usually attack from afar ... Clerics -------- Arguably the best class for parties, only comparable by the Spearman, Clerics are probably your holy angel. They use Holy attacks, but that's not their strong point. They'll probably be spamming their Heal attack, Clerics are exclusive of being able to Heal the entire party. They also have Mystic Door (transport them somewhere) Bless (increases defense, etc.) and moves that even revive the dead. Wizard (Fire / Poison) ----------------------- Wizards are almost the same, but they have Fire and Poison, a bit stronger but bad mob control. They use Fire elemental moves, which are arguably the most powerful, and Poison, which is weak but will poison an enemy and do some damage over time. They also have a few supporting moves, like MP Eater, and Meditate. Wizard (Ice / Lightning) ------------------------- Wizards are almost the same, but they have Ice and Lightning, a bit weaker but better mob control. They are known to have both a Lightning and Ice move, that will attack up to 6 enemies at once, and their Chain Lightning. Ice, will also freeze an enemy for up to 2 seconds. They are also known for a having a few supporting moves, like Mana Point Eater, Meditate, and Slow. Thieves -------- Theives have great avoidibility and speed. Bandits -------- High speed melee weapons, a weaker but MUCH, MUCH faster Warrior. Though they have extremely low range, they make it up with fast moves. They're best known for their Savage Blow, their main attacking move for many levels, they also have their special thief skills, such as Haste (which increases Speed and Jump of the whole party) and Steal (which could steal an item) They also have their semi-ranged (a lunge forward) attack Assulter. Assassin --------- Expensive but powerful class - they are nimble and use long range, with great speeds and skill. They use throwing stars - and can be either the strongest, or the weakest class. Their stars will affect anywhere from 15-29 extra ATK, so it does matter. They also have their special thief skills, such as Haste, (which increases Speed and Jump of the whole party) and Drain (which will dish back the HP done back to you) Bowmen ------- High accuracy and long range Bowmen (Hunters) ----------------- Bowmen have less powerful but good speed compared to a Crossbowman. Crossbowmen ------------ Crossbowmen have more power but less speed compared to a Hunter. A lot to choose from. But, how to take care of them. This section ... is what it's all about. But - which is the BEST class? The possibly most common ever question. Each is different at different waves but they all balance out in the end. So choose your class carefully, you can't switch! ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / at the flick of my wand ... \ \ \ ( IIIa. / / \ \ December, 21 / \ [MAG] /-/ |-| 2007 / | / / MAGICIAN \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ at the flick of my wand ... /-/ | | / / / / December, 21 | \_____/ /_______________Classes______________/ /________2007____/ Magicians are likely the most unique of the Four Classes. They cannot attack. Physically, that is. They attack using magic, spells. Without that or MP, they're futile. But luckily, they have MASS magic and MP, so there's little to worry about. Most reach 2,000 MP by Level 30. But with that comes a down side - HP. They finally reach 1,000 at about Level 85. All the rest get them at Level 30, Warriors at Level 20 or so. Their attacks mainly revolve around skills, rather than physical, even at early levels. Unless you're a Strength Magician (which is a completely useless just for fun thing that's actually rarely more powerful than a perma beginner) We'll start by going through the very beginning - once you've gotten the first eight levels down (yes, Magicians are lucky!) you can keep going and learn how to keep a perfect Magician. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / at the flick of my wand ... \ \ \ ( IIIa1a. / / \ \ January, 25 / \ [MSK] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / SKILLS \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ at the flick of my wand ... /-/ | | / / / / February, 1 | \_____/ /_______________Classes______________/ /________2008____/ Magicians have a variety of Magical Skills. ------------------------------ Improving Mana Point Recovery ------------------------------ Passive Level of Importance: *** (there is no exact table, as Recovery varies by level) This is a pretty important skill. Normally you only recover about 3 MP every 10 seconds. With this, you may collect up to about 100 MP every 10 seconds around Level 50. ----------------------------------- Improving Max Mana Point Increase ----------------------------------- Passive Level of Importance: ***** 5 in Improving Mana Point Recovery (there is no exact table, as Mana Point Increase varies by level) This is the most important Magician skill. This increases your Maximum MP gotten from a level up - therefore, extra MP. Also, if you decide to raise your MP via stats (highly not reccocmended, but still) you get extra MP. ------------ Magic Guard ------------ Supportive Level of Importance: ***** Level 1 : MP -6; Replace 11% of HP damage as MP for 1 min. 51 sec. Level 19 : MP -12; Replace 77% of HP damage as MP for 579 sec. Level 20 : MP -12; Replace 80% of HP damage as MP for 600 sec. This is the second most important skill. Why? This is your life saver. At much higher levels, enemies will do more damage in their attacks then you have HP. With Magic Guard, this will take about 75% of your MP (which you have plenty) away from the attack, and then you only take the remaining 25% (when maxxed) attack. When used in conjuction with Improving Max MP Increase, this gives you "HP" comparable to a Warrior. See, Magic Armor, for example. ------------ Magic Armor ------------ Supportive Level of Importance: * 3 in Magic Guard Level 1 : MP -8; weapon def. +2 for 54 sec. Level 2 : MP -8; weapon def. +4 for 68 sec. Level 3 : MP -8; weapon def. +6 for 82 sec. Level 4 : MP -8; weapon def. +8 for 96 sec. Level 5 : MP -8; weapon def. +10 for 110 sec. Level 18 : MP -16; weapon def. +36 for 372 sec. Level 19 : MP -16; weapon def. +38 for 386 sec. Level 20 : MP -16; weapon def. +40 for 400 sec. This skill is actually quite uesless if you have Magic Guard. Although 40 extra Weapon Defense seems like a lot, a percentage is much better at higher levels. ie, Bob has maxxed Magic Armor whilst Sally has maxxed Magic Guard. They both have it activated when Crimson Balrog comes, who does about 2,000 damage. He hits both. Bob takes 1960 damage (2000 - 40) while Sally takes about 250 HP (although a heavy hit of 1,750 MP, though not a problem as most Mages have that amount and more of MP at Level 30) so Bob will die while Sally lives. ----------- Magic Bolt ----------- Active Level of Importance: ** Level 1 : MP -6, basic attack 20, mastery 15% Level 2 : MP -6, basic attack 21, mastery 15% Level 3 : MP -6, basic attack 22, mastery 20% Level 4 : MP -6, basic attack 23, mastery 20% Level 5 : MP -7, basic attack 26, mastery 25% Level 6 : MP -7, basic attack 27, mastery 25% Level 7 : MP -7, basic attack 28, mastery 30% Level 8 : MP -8, basic attack 31, mastery 30% Level 9 : MP -8, basic attack 33, mastery 35% Level 10 : MP -9, basic attack 35, mastery 35% Level 11 : MP -9, basic attack 36, mastery 40% Level 12 : MP -10, basic attack 39, mastery 40% Level 13 : MP -10, basic attack 40, mastery 45% Level 14 : MP -11, basic attack 43, mastery 45% Level 15 : MP -11, basic attack 44, mastery 50% Level 16 : MP -12, basic attack 47, mastery 50% Level 17 : MP -12, basic attack 48, mastery 55% Level 18 : MP -13, basic attack 51, mastery 55% Level 19 : MP -13, basic attack 52, mastery 60% Level 20 : MP -14, basic attack 55, mastery 60% Magic Bolt is a good skill, don't get me wrong, but when you have a shiny Magic Claw skill in your face, it seems pretty bad. This formula is stating that the three after each level should go into LUK, and 9 for the roll. Your roll should be: STR = 4/5 DEX = 4/5 INT = Whatever LUK = Whatever So that means: +4 INT +1 LUK once your LUK evens out. -------------- LUKless Build -------------- (not reccocmended for not funded Mages) This is a build that will strengthen your mid level attacking, at the cost of higher level attacking and a lot of money. Your LUK formula is: LUK = Sl for Sl = LUK stat roll Your INT formula is: INT = Si + (L x 5) for Si = INT stat roll and L = level Your STAT roll should be: STR: 4/5 DEX: 4/5 INT: Whatever LUK: 4/5 Wait, how do you get clothes, you ask? With a certain success rate, an enemy will be poisoned - taking 70 damage or 1/40 of their max HP in dmg - whichever is more. A decent move, not too good on it's own but if you can poison an enemy and lob Fire Arrows, you'll do some decent damage. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / at the flick of my wand ... \ \ \ ( IIIa2b. / / \ \ Feburary 1, / \ [FPB] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / BUILDS \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ at the flick of my wand ... /-/ | | / / / / February 2, | \_____/ /_______________Classes______________/ /________2008____/ There's a variety of builds. Although it only has usefulness in Party Quests, it's fun. You can reach the highest of places and taunt people, you also move around much quicker - and something Haste can't do is you can teleport down. I found using this is a bit complicated at first, but you'll get the hang of it. Put it on something easy to press, like Spacebar. Walk left or right and press the teleport button to teleport in that direction. Crouch and press spacebar to teleport down. Hold up and press spacebarr to teleport up. Note that if you teleport up and you can't move, you waste MP. If you teleport left, or right at a wall, you teleport only to the wall. With the exception of down teleport, you cannot pass through walls, though you can pass through platforms. That way the Warrior has no reason to worry about pots. Note! You get EXP from healing, but only if you actually heal - not just healing a fully healed person. ----------- Invincible ----------- Supportive Level of Importance: *** 5 in Heal Level 1: MP 15; weapon damage -11% for 15 seconds Level 2: MP 15; weapon damage -12% for 30 seconds Level 3: MP 15; weapon damage -13% for 45 seconds Level 4: MP 15; weapon damage -14% for 60 seconds Level 5: MP 15; weapon damage -15% for 75 seconds Level 6: MP 15; weapon damage -16% for 90 seconds Level 7: MP 15; weapon damage -17% for 105 seconds Level 8: MP 15; weapon damage -18% for 120 seconds Level 9: MP 15; weapon damage -19% for 135 seconds Level 10: MP 15; weapon damage -20% for 150 seconds Level 11: MP 30; weapon damage -21% for 165 seconds Level 12: MP 30; weapon damage -22% for 180 seconds Level 13: MP 30; weapon damage -23% for 195 seconds Level 14: MP 30; weapon damage -24% for 210 seconds Level 15: MP 30; weapon damage -25% for 225 seconds Level 16: MP 30; weapon damage -26% for 240 seconds Level 17: MP 30; weapon damage -27% for 255 seconds Level 18: MP 30; weapon damage -28% for 270 seconds Level 19: MP 30; weapon damage -29% for 285 seconds Level 20: MP 30; weapon damage -30% for 300 seconds Invincible is like a weaker Magic Guard. To start, click on the lady to enter the Training Town. Simply go through the first belt, optionally watch the videos (Though be aware, the videos do give false information) Once you get to the second floor, do the quests by talking to people with light bulb icons over their head. Then do what they require. Keep going, and simply talk to people to complete the quests. Once you've finished your quests, you'll probably be around Level 8, so if you're a Mage, you can take off, if not then stay here. You'll want to try and complete all your quests, because you get a lot of good items (one is an MP or HP +30 boosting cap, as well as a possibility of a colored Work Glove, worth a pretty penny and a good funding boost to start out with) but it's most important to not pass the minimum level. Because if you do, you'll miss out on 3 points for each level for a skill ... Anyways, just keep training on Mushrooms if you're a Warrior-to-be or a Bowman-to-be, or Snails if you're a Thief-to-be or a Mage-to-be. You'll eventually reach you're desired level, and then you can take off. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / your very first job ... \ \ \ ( IVb. / / \ \ Feburary 2, / \ [FSJ] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / FIRST JOB \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ walking through ... /-/ | | / / / / February 2, | \_____/ /_____________Walkthrough____________/ /________2008____/ To get your first job, talk to the following NPC: Magician Grendel the Very Old Ellina Located at the top of Ellina Level 8; 20 INT required - Thief Night Lord Kerning City Located in the bar in the right side of the city Level 10; 25 DEX required - Warrior Dances With Balrog Perion Located at the top in his hut Level 10; 35 STR required - Bowman Athena Pierce Henesys Located in Henesys Park, near the clock tower Level 10; 25 DEX required Although you have it easy now, when you get to 3rd and 4th job advancement tests it's going to be a pain ... ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / first steps ... \ \ \ ( IVb1. / / \ \ Feburary 2, / \ [TRA] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / TRAINING \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ walking through ... /-/ | | / / / / February 2, | \_____/ /_____________Walkthrough____________/ /________2008____/ I'll give you a list of training spots. ============== ====ACRONYMS==== ============================================================================== NF = Non Funded L(insert number here) = You can do it earliar for that class at the said level <(insert number here) = This class should do it up to the said level. ============================================================================== =================== ====TRAINING LIST==== ============================================================================== Levels 8-10 - Do the quests that Grendel gives you to slay the slimes. Mage You'll probably Level to 10 while doing this. In the meanwhile, if you don't level, just train on Slimes. ============================================================================== Levels 8-12 - On the bottom floor of Henesys Hunting Ground are Snails and a Mage few Shrooms. Train here if you want to. You may have to keep Bowman (NF) switching channels since this is a popular spot. ============================================================================== Levels 10-15 - Do the Henesys Party Quest. Simply follow my guide and you'll All Classes level up like a bullet. ============================================================================== Levels 10-14 - Complete your Training Quests from your Job Instructor, it will All Classes allow you to level up quickly and get a few quick and easy Mage (L8) Pots. ============================================================================== Levels 11-13 - Slay Slimes at the Henesys Hunting Ground, on the second floor. All Classes You'll also find the occasional Blue Snail. ============================================================================== Levels 12-17 - Slay Orange Mushrooms at the Henesys Hunting Ground. You'll All Classes occasionally find a Red Snail. You also might find even a Warrior (L10) Stump. ============================================================================== Levels 14-21 - Go to Pig Beach, a hidden portal. Go to a Three Way Split and Claw Rogue and look for a patch of yellow flowers. There are Pigs and Mage Ribbbon Pigs located here, and some Snails at the top. Collect Bowman all things you get here. Sometimes you'll see a powerful Iron Warrior (L16) Hog, so if no one's there to kill it, switch channels. (Note! D. Rogue (L16) There is a Drop List in the Henesys PQ section) ============================================================================== Levels 16-21 - You can also try and keep doing Henesys Party Quest but All Classes leveling is a little slow. ============================================================================== Levels 16-22 - Go to Kerning City and go to a map to the left or right, and All Classes then train on the Octopi at the top of the construction site. Make sure to gather the tentacles for a future quest. ============================================================================== Levels 17-23 - Train at the Green Mushrooms at the top of Henesys Hunting All Classes Ground. Beware, it is the most popular HHG spot, though. ============================================================================== Levels 20-30 - You should do the Ariant Colosseum Party Quest until you get All Classes the Palm Beach Chair. Once you get the Palm Beach Chair, you should try the next levels, but you should try and get it because it's worth a few million mesos. ============================================================================== Levels 21-30 - You should try your hand at Kerning City Party Quest once All Classes you get your Palm Beach Chair, or as an alternative if you don't feel like doing all that hard work. ============================================================================== Levels 23-35 - Ant Tunnel is a great place to train from levels 23 to up to All Classes Level 35. The first few maps will consist of Horny Mushrooms Cleric (>40) and Zombie Mushrooms. Clerics can spam their heal and do good damage even up to Level 40. ============================================================================== Levels 24-30 - Evil Eyes are an okay training area, quite deep into Ant All Classes Tunnel. Though they're not the best, you need the tails for the quest, and if you defeat 99 you can turn in your quest and get a decent amount of EXP and pots. ============================================================================== Levels 25-30 - Curse Eyes (don't mistake with Evil Eyes, these are in All Classes Sleepywood, not Ant Tunnel) are needed for the kill 99 of these quest, a good free EXP and pots. ============================================================================== Levels 25-50 - Jr. Sentinels are good money for a beginner, and also some okay All Classes EXP. But what you really want is those shell pieces. You'll be able to trade in that, 20 Fire and 20 Ice pieces for 5 Orbis Rock Scrolls - which are actually worth quite a bit of money. Though training wise, I'd only do it until Level 30. ============================================================================== Levels 28-50 - Ice and Fire Sentinels are decent EXP, especially for an All Classes elementalist (Wizards) where you'll probably be able to 1HKO. Be sure to collect their shells. Training wise, I'd only train until Level 35. ============================================================================== Level 29-35 - Fire Boars are good EXP if you can hit them. Wild Boars are All Classes also good EXP for non-Ice Wizards. I/L Wizard (>40) ============================================================================== ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / first steps ... \ \ \ ( IVb2. / / \ \ Feburary 2, / \ [EQP] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / EQUIPMENT \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ walking through ... /-/ | | / / / / February 2, | \_____/ /_____________Walkthrough____________/ /________2008____/ =================== =====EQUIPMENT LIST==== ============================================================================== Level 8 - Unless you're funded with more than 100k, don't buy the Level 8 Mages clothes. You'll have the Training Wand, and that's enough. Your gloves should be the ones gotten from Maple Island, as well as your Hat. ============================================================================== Level 10 - Go ahead and buy the hat, the staff, and the shoes. Buy the Level Mages 13 clothes in advanced, except for the wand unless you're funded. Same gloves. ============================================================================== Level 10 - Your weapons don't matter until 2nd Job, so for now you can buy Warriors either a Pole Arm, or keep the Training Sword and buy a shield. You can buy the top, but the bottom is optional unless you're funded. Same gloves and hat from Maple Island, but buy the Level 12 headgear in advanced. ============================================================================== Level 10 - Buy your claw, as well as 5 sets of Subis. Don't bother with Wolbis Pre-Sins since they do too little difference, but if you have more than 150k you can go and search for a set of Mokbis. Don't get any clothes - stick with the ones you got from Maple Island. ============================================================================== Level 10 - Buy your dagger, and buy the top and bottom clothes if you have Pre-Dits the money. Stick with the hat and and gloves from Maple Island. Buy the Gomushins if you have the money, since it gives you a small speed boost. ============================================================================== Level 10 - Buy your bow if you're going to be a Hunter, as well as 10,000 Bowmen arrows to start out with. Buy the pants if you're a boy, if not just leave everything alone - since you'll need funding for the arrows. If you're a Crossbowman to be, buy simply an Axe or a melee weapon and hack on snails until Level 12 where you can get your bow. ============================================================================== Level 15 - Buy your next staff, and hat, primarily because they look cool, Mages but still. If you have the money, buy the shoes. But buy your Level 18 clothes first - that's a priority. Still wear your gloves from Maple Island. However, if you see another with either Yellow or Purple (primarily Yellow) Work Gloves, and you don't have them, you can ask to trade assuming their clean - since you'll want the extra LUK or INT boost. ============================================================================== Level 15 - Go ahead and buy your hat, and the bottoms of your next Warrior Warriors suit. If you have the money, buy the top too, but if not keep your Level 10 tops. If you want to be picky, you can change your weapon to the one you plan on being, but like I said, it doesn't matter, and a Pole Arm or 1H Sword is best. Buy your shoes also, and keep the gloves. But if you see someone with Red or Blue Work Gloves, (primarily Red) you can ask to switch for yours if you don't have them. ============================================================================== Level 15 - Save up that money, I wouldn't by clothes except for maybe the hat Pre-Sins just to look cool. Buy Mokbi now if possible, don't worry about anything else. If you do find someone who needs a glove like yours, you may be willing to trade. If you really want to, if your Work Glove is colored, you can sell it and then buy some stars. Buy the Gomushin Shoes, though, it'll last you for a while. ============================================================================== Level 15 - You'll probably have a lot of money, so go ahead and buy the Pre-Dits complete Level 15 Thief set, excluding the shoes, since you'll want your current shoes for speed. Keep your gloves, unless you want to trade it for something of your class. ============================================================================== Level 15 - Those 10,000 Arrows should still be satisfying you, so go ahead Bowman and buy the top and bottom only. Note that men only have the Level 10 bottoms, not Level 15. Buy your next Bow/Crossbow in advanced. I'd always keep my arrow supply above 2,000 in case of any emergency, or keep the Axe you Crossbowmen used. ============================================================================== Level 20 - Now you should have some good Cash rolling in, so treat yourself Mages with some new shoes if you have extra money. Definetley buy the hat, since there's no Level 25 hat and the Level 30 hats are rare. Buy the staff/wand (whichever fits you - Staffs are slower but more powerful and vice versa with wands) Lemonas are a pretty common Slime drop, so if you do find it, keep it and sell your WG. ============================================================================== Level 20 - Buy yourself the cool looking top and bottom if you have the money. Warriors If not buy the Red Kendo Robe instead - it's cheaper but less efficient. Buy the Level 20 Helmet if you can, if not, buy the Level 22 Helmet and keep your Level 15 Helmet until Level 22. Buy the shoes if you have the money. Don't bother with gloves just yet because you'll get a pair from the Nella in Kerning City quest, which is coming up soon. Buy your new weapon - make buying your weapon a prioty, and if you can, buy your weapon five levels in advanced, in case you level far away from Perion. ============================================================================== Level 20 - By now I'd have at least one set of a non-Subi star, preferably not Pre-Sins Wolbis either, but if you do it's better than nothing. Once you get a set of Mokbis or better, you can relax and start buying some Level 20 clothes - top and bottom. I'd hold off on the shoes and just keep your Gomushins. Don't worry about gloves just yet. Meba's are expensive, due to the speed boost, but if you have the money you can go to Orbis and get a Level 15 Claw at the weapon store. (I hope you've noticed that Claws aren't sold in Victoria Island stores other than the Garnier) ============================================================================== Level 20 - Right now you're probably the richest class, so go ahead and treat Pre-Dits yourself to the complete Level 20 set - Hat, Top, Bottom, and shoes, unless you think you'll miss the speed boost. I'd save up some money though, because Thief equips will get expensive by mid levels. Buy your dagger. ============================================================================== Level 20 - If you have more than 5,000 arrows - great. If not, make sure Bowmen you have at least more than 5,000 as levels are becoming slower and slower. Buy the top and bottom equips because they look cool. Unless you're funded though, I wouldn't buy the hat or shoes, to save up for arrows. Buy the Level 20 Bow/Crossbow - as the knockback and attack boost is a healthy boost. ============================================================================== Level 25 - By now, you should have a steady surplus of cash, so buy yourself Mages your equips. But for some of your Level 30 stuff you need to do some quests. There's two quests in Ludibrium that'll give you your Level 30 hat. You should also do Nella at Kerning City's quest for your gloves. If you don't have Earrings, you can go to Kerning City PQ for some, or buy some from other players in the KCPQ area. You can get your first Level 25 cape, which gives a good boost of Avoidability, from Jane in the Kerning City hospital. ============================================================================== Level 25 - Buy the Dark Seargent top and kilt from the Weapon Shop, and buy Warriors your Level 25 and Level 30 weapon if you haven't already. Buy your shoes also, since you might be stuck with them for a while. You have to get your Level 30 Jousting Helmet from a quest in Ludibrium. Get your cape and gloves from Jane and Nella in Kerning City respectively. Get some earrings (don't bother with anything Level 20 or under, those are just for show) from KCPQ. ============================================================================== Level 25 - In my opinion, the Level 25 clothes are ugly ... but they do give Pre-Sins a good boost. Go ahead and buy your hat too, since you haven't bought one since Level 10/15. Still keep your Gomushins, and if you want, you can buy a Level 25 Claw from Showa Town. Go to the World Tour, then go all the way right, another map, and then another. Once you get into Showa Streets, use a Return Scroll. Then go to the market portal, to the left, and buy it from there. See, Mage, for how to get your earrings, and cape. (you can buy your hat for thieves) If you have a couple hundred thousand mesos, you can buy a set of Kumbis. ============================================================================== Level 25 - See, Pre-Sins. Except instead of buying your Claw from Showa Town, Pre-Dits you can buy your dagger from Kerning City. Buy your Level 25 Shoes instead, also. ============================================================================== Level 25 - Buy your Level 25 clothes since they look cool, and the hat too Bowmen if you have the cash. Buy Level 25 shoes also, and your Bow or Crossbow. See, Warriors, for how to get earrings, hat, and cape and gloves. ============================================================================== ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / your very second job ... \ \ \ ( IVb. / / \ \ AUGUST, 7 / \ [SEJ] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / SECOND JOB \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ walking through ... /-/ | | / / / / AUGUST, 7 | \_____/ /_____________Walkthrough____________/ /________2008____/ To advance for your second job, you will need to talk to your Class Headquarters and talk to your instructor. AKA, the tribal hut, the old house, the treehouse, and ... the secret toilet room. There you will talk to your Instructor, and they will give you a note. Now you will have to find your advancement teacher somewhere hidden in a nearby map. For Thieves, he's at the top of the construction site two maps to the right. Climb up the construction, and he's on the top right block. For Warriors, he's in the mountains. Go a couple maps to the right until you find a portal in the top lefthand corner. Go there, and continue advancing through the maps until there's no more. From there, go to the top right and there he is. For Mages, go to the upper left map outside of Ellina. Climb all the trees to the top, and he'll be there. For Bowman, go to the right, and then just look for the instructor wide in the open. From there, you have to defeat enemies (these enemies aren't too hard, about medium level such as Lupins and Curse Eyes and Fire Boars) There's about a 1 in 3 chance they'll drop a marble. So about 90 enemies later, talk to the instructor and he'll let you through. Talk to your instructor to choose your sub-class. See, classes, for more information. ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / taking on tasks ... \ \ \ ( V. / / \ \ Feburary 2, / \ [WAK] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / QUESTS \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ taking on new tasks ... /-/ | | / / / / February 2, | \_____/ /_____________Walkthrough____________/ /________2008____/ Quests can be activated by ______________ _______________________________ ___________________ / / / it's bunny time ... \ \ \ ( IV. / / \ \ Feburary 2, / \ [WAK] /-/ |-| 2008 / | / / HENESYS PARTY QUESTS \ \ / /COMPLETE / / / / to / | /-/ taking on tasks... /-/ | | / / / / February 2, | \_____/ /_____________Walkthrough____________/ /________2008____/ Below is a link to my Henesys Party Quest guide.
