4. DoubleCross****************************HWG4*******************************
Doublecross is a two-to-four player word game.

Rules:
Upon your colored box flashing, it will be your turn. Drag tiles onto the board
to place them and make words. Some stuff about this:

~ The tiles must extend from a stable tile OR in a straight line from a stable
tile with unstable tiles of the SAME COLOR connected. Stable tiles are black
with colored letters; unstable tiles are of a colored background with black
  letters.
~ The tiles become stable a word is made using these tiles. If there are any
unstable tiles still connected to a tile, that tile remains unstable.
~ The words must be 3 (or 4) letters long. Therefore, the words "xi" and "ay"
  aren't made stable.
~ If a word is a partial word (part of a word; example: "cr-" in reference to
"create", "crate", and "cradle") will remain unstable until a full word is
  made.
~ If you try to place a tile and it won't make at least a partial word, you
will lose the tile, your turn, and points.
~ Points are given for completed words, based on the letters in it.

During your turn, you can also use "Pass" to finish your turn with the tiles
currently places, or "New Tiles" to pass your turn while getting a new rack.
The latter only functions if you haven't played a tile this turn. Once you
"Pass", your rack is refill and play passes to the next turn.

There are some bonus tiles on the board. The "+##" spaces add points to your
score when played on; the value increases as more of these spaces are taken.
The "?" spaces are a random effect. The colored bombs when played on will
remove all of the unstable tiles of the color of the bomb; if the player with
that color plays on said bomb, it is defused and does nothing. There are bombs
with pointing arrows: if you place this on a tile, any unstable tiles in the
path outlined by the arrows will be destroyed and the owner loses points. You
can use them when desired, though only two are held. The "X" spaces are where
nothing can be placed.

The game will end when someone's rack is emptied and cannot be refilled, or all
players consecutively cannot/choose not to play. Points are deducted and a
winner is determined by the highest number of points.

Scoring:
~ Play on YOUR colored bomb = +16 points.
~ Play on a different colored bomb = +8 points.
~ Pick up the N/W/S/E bomb = +4 points.
~ Pick up a different bomb = +2 points.
~ Completion of a word = +1 point per letter in word.
~ Stablization of tiles = +1 point multiplied by number of letters in word.
~ Have tiles in rack at end = -1 point per tile.
~ Have unstable tiles at end = -1 point per tile.
~ Get a letter blown up = -4 points per tile.

Tips:
~ Avoid making words that use the unstable tiles of another player's word;
instead, try to make words with these tiles nearby that would make the
opponent's tiles not part of the word, thereby destroying them.
~ Aim for the bonus point spaces - you don't need to have complete words to get
  them, just legal partial words.
~ Make lots of words when playing; avoid having unstable tiles.
~ When playing on another's color bomb, beware that you, too, lose points if
you orphan (and thereby destroy) some of your tiles.
~ Maximize the opponents' destruction when using a directional bomb while
  minimizing your own.
~ Try completing multiple words. For example, adding E, N, and D to M will
first make MEN, then MEND, which can earn bonus points.

Actions:
~ Pass: Passes turn to next player. Shortcut: P.
~ Get New Letters: Pass turn to next player and get a new rack. Shortcut: G.
~ Undo: Undoes last move on this turn, if it didn't mess with a special space,
stabilize a word, or complete a word. Shortcut: U.
~ Pause/Resume: Pause/Restart game.

Game Options:
~ Include colored bombs: Do you want colored bombs?
~ Include directional bombs: Do you want directional bombs?
~ Include bonus point spaces: Do you want bonus point spaces?
~ Include blocking spaces: Do you want block spaces?
~ Grid Mode: If active, the blocking spaces are in a grid form.
~ Include mystery spaces: Do you want the mystery spaces?
~ Verbose descriptions: If on, you'll see a description of all plays; if off,
you'll see a description of the critical plays.
~ Minimum Word Size: Must a word be 3 or 4 letters before it can be stable?
~ Time Limit For Turn: How long do you get to play per turn? Time limits are
                       30/45/60 seconds and infinite time.
~ Skill Level: How tough are the computers?

5. Word Searches****************************HWG5*****************************
Word Searches is a word-finding game intended for one. It can be played
competitively with another person.

Rules:
In this game, you will need to find all of the words hidden in the grid. The
words are listed on the right side of the screen. These words may be found in
a vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or backwards manner. When you believe you
have found a word, click-and-hold the mouse button to circle the word - if it
is the correct one, it is crossed off the list. Find them all to win.

In two-player, you will take turns with another in finding words, and you will
have a time limit for your turn. Finding a word will score you a point; failing
to make it in the time limit passes your turn. The game ends when all of the
words are found, or both players fail consecutively to find a word. Whoever has
more points wins.

Creating Word Searches:
First, go to the File menu and click "Create New Word List". Then type in the
desired word in the "Add New Word" box and click "Add". Hit "Save" to finish.
Please note that all words need to be 3 to 21 letters long - no more, no less.

Tips:
~ Longer words tend to be easier to find, as do vertical and horizontal words.
~ When looking for a certain word, try scanning the grid for the first letter
in the word. When you find it, check all of the surrounding letters and see
which one is the second letter, then continue along that branch. If you fail
to find it, return to the start of the "word" and continue along.

6. Crosswords****************************HWG6********************************
Crosswords is a word-solving game intended for one, though it can be played
with another person competitively.

Rules:
Begin by clicking the clue you want to solve in the Across or Down lists, or
click on a numbered square that matches it. You can press the Spacebar to
switch from Down to Across and vica versa.

Look at the clue and solve it. For example, for the first prime number", you
could type in "two" -- that's how you enter your answer: by typing.

In two-player, you take turns. Each turn has a limited time. Type in your
answers as you wish. At the end of this period, you'll get one point for each
correct letter, with the incorrect ones being removed from the puzzle. The
turn passes to the next player. The game ends when the puzzle is complete or
both players fail consecutively to find a correct letter. The player with more
points wins.

Tips:
~ In timed or competitive games, try solving the fill-in-the-blank clues first,
  as they are often easier.

Actions:
~ File Menu:
  - New: Select a new, random puzzle.
  - Choose Puzzle: Get a puzzle of choice.
  - Save: Save the game for later continuation.
  - Restore: Load a saved game.
  - Print: Print out the puzzle in its current state.

Letters" must be on for this.
~ Show Help Given: Shows where you were given help; Solve Letter/Word squares
have red corners, with the Show Correct Letters squares
where you changed things are black cornered.
~ Mark Clues When Filled In: Grays clues when it has been filled in (not
                             neccessarily correct).
~ Use Timer: Have a timer to keep track of time.
~ Difficulty Levels: Selects how hard the puzzles are (for random puzzles).
~ Two Player Game Time: How long are the two-player turns? (30/45/60 seconds.)
~ Environments: Choose the background picture.

7. Wordox****************************HWG7************************************
Wordox is a Scrabble-esque word game for two to four players.

Rules:
When it is your turn, you are to make words with the tiles in the rack. You
will do so by dragging them onto the board. The words are made up/down or
left/right, never diagonally. These words must be 2+ letters long. You also
must play 2+ tiles on your turn. These tiles must extend from others on the
board, if any; if not, it be in the center starred square. Click "Submit" to
enter the word. If you run out of time before doing so, your tiles already
placed are submitted and checked. You can also use "Pass" to pass play to the
next player. The rack is refilled if all players consecutively pass. If the
word submitted is not a word/allowed, you lose the turn.

When a word is accepted, the tiles used in it become the color of you. This
also goes for previously-played words. For each tile of your color, you get a
point.

When you play on an orange space, you'll get a dot. If you hit the pink space,
you'll get extra points equal to the number of dots. The pink space will empty
the board of all tiles.

The game ends when a player hits the target point number, or there are not
enough tiles to refill the rack, or if all tiles are used. The player with the
most points will win in the latter two situations.

Another note on tile-taking... If you make a new word from another word (eg.
"SHEET" from "SHE", "STONE" from "TON", or "FIRES" from "FIRE"), you will take
all of the tiles in the word.

Tips:
~ Try to capture everyone's tiles. Make words alongside the word or add some
  prefixes or suffixes to it.
~ Make your words tough to capture. For example, if you can play "STAGE" or
"GATES", play "GATES"; this is because "STAGE" can have several different
  prefixes and suffixes added.
~ PLAY LOTS OF TILES! Each tile is one point; thusly, longer words mean more
points. For example, don't play "AIR" when you can play "HAIRY"; the same
goes for "RAIL" and "FRAIL/GRAIL" and "LEAK" and "BLEAK".
~ Clear the board when possible. The points you have after playing can never
  be lost.

Actions:
~ File Menu:
  - New: Start a new game.
  - Save: Save game for future continuation.
  - Restore: Load a saved game.

~ Actions Menu:
  - Submit: Submits play.
  - Pass: Pass turn.
  - Pause/Resume: Pause/Resume playing the game.

~ Shortcuts:
  - Enter: Submits play.
  - Spacebar: Pass turn.

Game Options:
~ Seconds to play: How long you have to play a word before the game
auto-submits the word. Ranges from 30 to 240 seconds.
~ Cannot end existing word with S: When this is active, you cannot add an "S"
to a word and make another on the side; you
will have to use A/E/I/O/U before it.
~ Game ends when board is cleared: Upon clearing the board, the game ends.
~ Winning Score: Use the default score for winning, or make your own!
~ Skill Level: Choose how difficult the opponent(s) are to beat.

8. Speedy Racer****************************HWG8******************************
Speedy Racer is a game of typing accuracy.

"Save the Pigs" Rules:
In this game, you'll find three houses (the pigs), with the wolf dropping
letters and words from the sky. These need to be typed before hitting the
houses. Correctly typing a whole letter/word gets you two points (per letter),
while incorrect typing subtracts one point per mistake.

When a letter/word hits a house, it will be damaged. The straw house can take
two hits; the stick house, four; and the brick house, six. Remember, it needs
to hit the house to deal damage.

Also, a plane occasionally flies overhead. Type the letter/word in the banner
to partially repair the most damaged house (by one hit).

As you continue typing correctly, you'll go to the next level. If you manage
to finish it, you'll win. If all three houses are destroyed, you lose.

"Pirate Attack" Rules:
As you play, words and letters will appear in the sky. If you type it correctly
before it disappears, you'll get two points per letter; mistakes subtract one
point each.

Correct typing fires a shot at the pirate ship, while incorrect typing gets you
fired a ship. Not all shots are 100% accurate.

You'll get points by sinking ships (80 successful shots). A new ship will
replace it. Your ship is sunk after 12 shots, after which you'll lose.

A blinking letter/word may appear; type it to repair a point of damage to your
ship.

Tips:
~ Save the Pigs:
  - Aim for faster items first.
  - Ignore items that won't damage houses in later levels.
~ Pirate Attack:
  - Faster appearing items disappear faster.

Actions:
~ File Menu:
  - New: Starts a new game.
  - Save: At the end of levels, you can save for later continuation.
  - Restore: Loads a saved game.

~ Actions Menu:
  - Pause/Resume Timer: Pauses/Resumes the game.

~ Shortcuts:
  - Alphabet Keys: Types letters.
  - Spacebar, Enter, Backspace: Clears word so you can type another.

Game Options:
~ Difficulty Levels:
  - Easy: Five levels is a win in Save the Pigs. In Pirate Attack, all of your
shots are 100% accurate, though the enemy misses often.
  - Medium: 10 levels is a win in Save the Pigs. In Pirate Attack, you and the
            enemy miss about the same.
  - Hard: 15 levels is a win in Save the Pigs. In Pirate Attack, the enemy will
hit you more than you hit them.
~ Starting Level: Determines the start level. In Easy, it can't be changed; in
Medium, levels 1 - 5 are allowed; in Hard, you can use levels
                  1 - 10.

9. Enigma****************************HWG9************************************
Enigma is a phrase-decoding game.

Rules:
In the game, you are to descramble the coded message. You might play with
proverbs, quotes, or both. With the second option, you also decode who said
it.

There will be a chart on the screen that shows the number of times the letter
is in the puzzle.

Begin by choosing the letters you want to swap and they, if in the puzzle, will
be highlighted. Click "Swap" to swap them. The puzzle chart is updated. The
game ends when you've solved it correctly; all letters become green.

Tips:
~ Most phrases should contain "the" or "and".
~ There are one-letter words: "a" and "I".
~ Remember that apostrophes are unswappable and in their correct place.
~ Most quotes' authors are well-known.
~ Look at where some words are in sentences: "the" never ends one, for example.
~ R, S, T, A, O, I, and E are the most common English letters; X, J, Q, Z, V,
  and K are rather uncommon.

Actions:
~ File Menu:
  - New: Start a new puzzle.
  - Save: Save puzzle for future continuation.
  - Restore: Load saved game.

~ Actions Menu:
  - Swap Letters: Swaps the selected letters.
  - Solve Letter: Solves the letter selected.
  - Solve Puzzle: Solves the puzzle in entirety.
  - Rescramble: Scrambles the entire puzzle, even correct/solved letters.
  - Undo: Undoes the last-performed action.
  - Pause/Resume Timer: Pause/Resume the game.

~ Shortcuts:
  - Alphabet Keys: Types in the letters rather than selecting via mouse.
  - Enter: Swaps the selected letters.
  - CTRL+Z: Undoes the last-done action.

Game Options:
~ Show Correct Letters: If a letter in the puzzle is correct, it is green.
~ Vowels Stay Vowels: Vowels are represented with vowels in the puzzle.
~ Use Timer: Keep track of time.
~ Puzzle Types: Choose to have proverbs, quotes, or both as puzzles.
~ Difficulty Level: Choose to have a game easier with more familiar quotes and
proverbs, or harder for the opposite.
~ Environments: Sets the environment seen.

10. Anagrams****************************HWG10********************************
Anagrams is a word-making game for one.

Rules:
At the screen's top, you'll find some letters. Use these letters to make words
until you run out of time. You'll find some blanks below; each one represents
a single letter in a potential word.

If you make enough words, the monkey obtains the bananas! The goal is at the
top, as well as your current score.

Tips:
~ Remember that if you can see prefixes/suffixes (eg. "re-", "un-", "de-",
"-s", "-er", "-ed"), you can use them, too, as words.
~ Remember that words CAN start with vowels.
~ Remember that some words have repeated letters; keep this in mind if you
receive two of the same letter.

Actions:
~ File Menu:
  - New: Start a new game.
  - Save: Save game for future continuation.
  - Restore: Load saved game.

~ Actions Menu:
  - Solve: Solve and finish the game, showing all words.
  - Pause/Resume Timer: Pause/Resume the game.

~ Shortcuts:
  - Alphabet Letters: Type in words.
  - Enter: Submits typed word.
  - Backspace: Removes previous letter.
  - Esc: Clears the whole word.

Game Options:
~ Solve Automatically When Time Runs Out: Is the puzzle solved for you when
                                          you're out of time?
~ Difficulty Level: Determines how many words you need to find to win.
~ Allow Obscure Words: Allows oncommon words.
~ Talking Skulls: Do the skulls talk?

11. Hangman****************************HWG11*********************************
Hangman is a word-guessing game that can have one to three players, depending
on the variation.

"Classic" Rules:
In this game, you are shown some blanks, each representing a letter. You are
to try to guess the letters in it to find the word. Too many incorrect guesses
and you'll lose.

You get to see the category of the puzzle, too. Keep this in mind.

You'll guess letters by typing it on the keyboard or clicking letter. Correct
guesses are revealed throughout the puzzle. Too many wrong guesses and you
lose. When you solve the word, you win.

"Hangman Challenge" Rules:
In this mode, you are given a random category. You are to solve a word in this
category (ie. spiders). You are allowed 13 wrong guesses. However, after a
finished puzzle, you are given another. This continues until you make 13 wrong
guesses.

You guess letters by typing or clicking them.

"Head to Head" Rules:
In this, you and another human take turns creating and solving puzzles. You'll
get points for solving puzzles or stumping your opponent. After the chosen
number of puzzles, whoever has more points wins.

You'll begin by having someone typing a puzzle for the other person to guess
(while they look away). This guesser will then type/click letters for guesses.
The puzzle ends when it is solved or the guesser loses. For the next game, the
roles swap.

"Hangman Showdown" Rules:
In this three-player mode, you will swap turns at guessing at the same
puzzle.

In a category round, you'll find a puzzle on a certain subject. You can also
get proverbs or random words.

During the puzzle, you are allowed four wrong guesses. Once that happens, you
lose all the points accumulated in this round (it won't affect previous
rounds). Points are obtained by guessing correct letters - the rarer the letter
is in general, the more points it is worth. For each time it correctly appears,
you get points per letter (ie. 4 Z's equals 200 points).

After your guess, play passes to the next player. Once the puzzle is solved,
all points gotten in the round are added, with the next puzzle starting. The
game ends after a certain amount of games; after this, whoever has more points
will win.

During your guesses, you can get some special bonuses:
~ +30 points.
~ Double the point value of the guessed letter.
~ Extra guess.
~ Lose next turn.
~ Attempt at solving puzzle, if chosen to do so. Correctly doing so nets you
100 points; incorrectly doing so loses you your next turn.

Tips:
~ R, S, T, L, N, E, I, A, and S are the most common letters in English; Z, Q,
  X, J, V, and K are much less common.
~ Almost every word has a vowel in it.
~ In creating puzzles, try to lower the length. As it gets longer, more letters
are correct and more therefore get revealed.

Actions:
~ File Menu:
  - New: Start new puzzle.
  - Save: Save puzzle for future continuation.
  - Restore: Loads saved game.

~ Actions Menu:
  - Solve: (Classic variation.) Solves the puzzle.

~ Shortcuts:
  - Alphabet Keys: Guess letters.
  - Enter: In all but "Showdown", starts new game. In "Showdown", it starts the
           next round.

Game Options:
~ Allow Same Letter Guessing: (Not in "Showdown".) Allows guesser to guess the
                              same letter multiple times.
~ Number of Misses: ("Classic"; "Head to Head".) How many misses are allowed?
Can be set based on puzzle length, or choice (6 - 13).
~ Puzzle Types: ("Classic" only.) Chooses whether you get words, proverbs,
                or category-based puzzles.
~ Number of Puzzles: ("Head to Head" only.) Chooses how many puzzles are played
before the game ends. (2 to 20.)
~ Number of Rounds: ("Showdown" only.) Chooses how many rounds are in a game.
                    (3 to 15.)
~ Environments: (Not in "Showdown".) Chooses the environment.

12. Word Yacht****************************HWG12******************************
Word Yacht is a one to four player game in which you roll dice and make words.

Rules:
You'll begin by clicking the cup and rolling the ten lettered dice. Using the
letters appear, you are given two minutes to make as many words as possible.
You may type the word or click on the appropriate tiles. Each tile can only be
used in a word once (remember: if you have 2 "T" tiles, then the word CAN have
2 "T"s; however, if you had just one, you'd be limited to one). At the end of
the two minutes, or whenever you prefer, you can select a number on the scoring
sheet to get that many points in that category. The words you make need to be
3+ letters long and recognized by the dictionary of the game.

Tips:
~ Various new words can be made using prefixes (eg. "re-", "en-", "de-") and
suffixes (eg. "-s", "-er", "-ed"). If you plan on using this technique a lot,
it helps to set the game to not clear the tiles after you make a word.
~ The most common letters in English are R, S, T, L, N, and E. Take this into
consideration when doing "Starter". Likewise, remember that the least common
  are Z, X, Q, J, and V.
