About me ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am Sarba Raj Bartaula, 13, Male and live in Kathmandu, Nepal. I am a nine grader right now. I was dropped on earth on 26th April, 1992. Please compromise the walkthrough as it is NOT fully correct in grammar. Welcome to my FAQ/Walkthrough of Quidditch, which is the first one in the series. I've planned to write FAQ/Walkthrough in the games released in the following manner: 1. HP - Quidditch World Cup (Released) 2. HP and the Sorcerer's stone (Released) 3. HP and the Chamber of Secrets (Released) 4. HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Working on) 5. HP and the Goblet of Fire (Completed; replaying - 3rd time) I am a great fan of Mrs. J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter Series and have read all released books, from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and enjoyed all of 'em. My favourite book in the series is "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". I've looked all the movies, too. My favourite movie is "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and the favourite actor (in the film) is Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and favourite actress is Emma Watson (Hermione Granger). Other of my favourites are: Teacher -> Prof. Severus Snape, Prof. Albus Dumbledore Spell -> Expeliarmus, Petrificus Tutalis Unforgivable Curse -> Torture Curse Quidditch Ball -> (Golden) Snitch Quidditch Player -> Fred and George Weasley House -> Gryffindor Negative Character -> He-who-must-not-be-named (Lord Voldemort) Password -> Pure Blood (to the slytherin common room; 2nd year) I'm one of the class toppers and love reading books. Apart from it, I am interested in programming (using JAVA, Visual Basic and C++) and playing computer games and one more thing "I HATE FOOTBALL". Too much of me. Now, let's get on to my favourite game, QUIDDITCH! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. FAQ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q: Even though I press the "Enter" key after getting the "Team Special Move" icon in a match, I still can't execute the team special move. Why is it so? A: It happens because you need to get the "Team Special Move" card before executing a team special move. (There are three things to do in each card; you must do them with the TEAM you need to unlock team special move for.) Q: What are the methods of increasing the snitch meter? A: The methods of increasing the snitch meter are: 1. Pass and 2. Do combos (and score) Q: How I get the icons of "Dodge", "Bludger" etc? A: Simple, just do the following: 1. Pass, 2. Do combos and 3. Have the Quaffle in your possession as long as you can Q: How do I reduce the opponent's snitch meter? A: There are two things you can do: 1. A "Team Special Move" reduces it by a lot, 2. Get the Bludger hit the opponent's chaser or 3. Perform a sucessful special move "tackle". Q: Can I "steal" the opponent's snitch meter? A: Not officially, but there's a way. Do a lot of combos (about 5 to 10) then execute the "Team Special Move". The opponent's snitch meter will drop and yours will increase simultaneously just like stealing the opponents snitch meter. Q: How can I get the Bludger hit the opponent's chaser? A: Simple, after releasing the Bludger, hold the down arrow key. It almost always hits the target. For me it's worked 90% of the whole time. So much for the FAQs, lets get on to the walkthrough itself! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The walkthrough has several parts namely: 5.1 Quidditch: The Game i. Overview ii. Players iii. Balls 5.2 Controls (Default) i. General ii. Game play 5.3 Main walkthrough i. Main Menu, Overview, System Requirements (by me NOT the manual) ii. At Hogwarts iii. World Cup iv. Queerditch Marsh 5.4 Brooms (or levels) and # of cards needed to unlock 5.5 Special Moves and # of cards needed to unlock ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.1 Quidditch: The Game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i. Overview ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Any Quidditch fan will know that Quidditch was invented in the 11th century (as written by Mrs. J. K. Rowling in her series) in the ancient Queerditch Marsh. It's a sort of basketball, rugby, football and hockey at the same time in their evolved stage as its played on air, on broomsticks with guards put on. It has not one, not two but three different types of balls played over simultaneously. It is known to the world as the most famous sport of wizards and witches and is a totally rough game even though no one has died in centuries. Its objective is to throw the Quaffle (see balls) through one of the three goal hoops to gain points and catch the golden snitch (see balls) for a cool 150 points. What's good: - Graphics and animation - The house challenges - The Queerditch marsh - The world cup itself! What's Bad - You don't get to change the chaser (the user controls) at will while tackling the opponent - The game's too easy for me (Queerditch Marsh, in "Firebolt" level I've beaten Gryffindor vs. Slytherin by 550 to 0 points!, have taken just 2.5 seconds to catch the snitch at Hogwarts) - You don't get to select Hogwarts' team at the Quidditch World Cup - The Bulgarian seeker Victor Krum's face sucks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ii. Players ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The game has seven players, total of four types. There is a keeper, three chasers, two beaters and a seeker. The works of all four with their descriptions are given below: 1. Keeper: The keeper is like a goal-keeper in football. His objective is to prevent the opponent's team from scoring, which (scoring) is done by throwing the Quaffle (see balls) through one of the goal hooves. He/She must be strong and somewhat agile. 2. Chasers: They are there to score with the help of the Quaffle. Their objective is to through one of the three goal hooves without the keeper, Bludger (see balls) or the opponent's chasers stopping them. They must have co-ordination and a lot of stamina. 3. Beaters: They are there to prevent the Bludger (see balls) to strike their team mates and bat them (with a baseball type bat) to opponent's players or away from them. They must be accurate. 4. Seeker: The seeker is there to end the game by catching the golden snitch of course! They are almost always the key to victory. He/She must be quick, nimble and small. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ iii. Balls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The game has four balls, total of three types. There is a Quaffle, two Bludgers and a golden snitch. The descriptions of all four are given below: 1. Quaffle : It's the main ball. It is a seamless, leather ball which is to be thrown at the one of the three scoring hoops to score 10 points. The hoops (as mentioned above) is guarded by the keeper. 2. Bludger : They are "nasty - little" powerful balls. They are black and iron-clad. They rocket around the pitch like mad, attempting to knock players off their brooms. The ways to prevent this are: 1. Dodge it or 2. There are two Beaters on your team armed with bats that either hit the Bludger away or at the other team. 3. Golden Snitch : It is not be the main ball, but it's the most important. The Golden Snitch has wings designed especially to fly rapidly, change direction in an instant and is even difficult to spot. It is to be "seeked" by the seeker once released. Once caught, the game ends and the Seeker that caught the Snitch earns his or her team an extra hundred and fifty points, almost always guaranteeing a win. It was founded by Bowman Wright. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.2 Controls (default) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i. System Requirements (by me NOT the manual) and Main Menu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ System Requirements (by me NOT the manual) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Recommended requirements are only given; for minimal see read me of the game. CPU 1.8 GHz RAM 128 (rarely hangs), 256 (smooth) Video Card 16 MB 15" or 17" colour monitor Speaker Keyboard and Mouse Windows XP, 2000, ME, NT, CE or 98 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main menu: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Once you open the game EXE after installation, you get "EA Games - Challenge Everything" sound and logo, the WB trademark thingy, and a fun little movie. Watch that to get in mood or skip it by using the enter key and when it's finished, a "Select Game" screen will show up. Select "New Game". After you press Enter to start, the main menu will appear. There will be four options for you to choose. The first is Hogwarts. Next is the "World Cup" option. You notice that it's locked (you can only access it once you have won the Hogwarts Cup and Prof. Albus Dumbledore has given you the tickets). The third option says Exhibition. This is for when you just want to play a quick, custom game of Quidditch. Of course, you'll have to unlock a few Quidditch cards to enjoy the full control of custom games. You can't really play an Exhibition game right now, as you don't even know how to play (You'll need to complete the House challenges to know how to). Last option is Inventory. From this, you can access how many Quidditch cards you've earned, the Special Moves you've unlocked, load a previous or new game, save the current progress and change options. First, using the up and sown arrow keys, select Hogwarts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ii. At Hogwarts ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Harry will fly up and he and Oliver Wood will give you a run-through of the basics of Quidditch. Listen carefully to clear up any misunderstandings now. Then, Harry will lead you to an area where all the House Seekers are gathered. You can choose Harry Potter for Gryffindor, Draco Malfoy for Slytherin, Cedric Diggory for Hufflepuff or Cho Chang for Ravenclaw. Let's go with Gryffindor for now as we'll have to go through all of them, eventually. After telling you "it was a good choice to pick Gryffindor" and some other stuff, Potter brings you to the House Challenges area. All the team members are lined up to teach you the skills you need to know to play a good game of Quidditch. Select the first person, who teaches you how to pass. After a brief introduction, the Challenge loads and you have a red screen with directions about what to do. Read them (they're important!) and press ENTER when you're through and the screen displays "Press <Enter> to continue". The Chasers are in an open area in Hogwarts and just like your Chaser says, two other chasers will be flying on either side of you, just ahead "(in "V" shaped formation)". They have rings around them, changing from yellow to green. Your goal is to fly around with the arrow keys and use the action key to pass to a Chaser when his or her ring is green. This is one of the difficult Challenges to master, but an easy to get a bronze (beat the team record). Once you have passed successfully, the screen will transfer to the person with the Quaffle. If you pass correctly, one of the circles at the bottom will fill with green. If you pass while a ring is yellow, one of the circles will fill with yellow. If you totally miss and a Chaser has to fly out to grab the Quaffle, the circle turns red. Red circle gives +10 penalty seconds and yellow circle gives +5 seconds . Once you finish (and beat a record), another menu shows up with your stats, such as time, time penalties, if you've beaten any records (team, house or school record) and gives you the option to "Save and Continue", "Replay" , or "Continue" (without saving) . Let's do "Save and Continue" You're brought to another red screen, 'Choose a Save'. Select any slot. Your first card shows up, showing you Hufflepuff Chasers! You're given the option to go to your Inventory, and Harry gives you the lowdown on how to use that. Look at your card collection if you like, (which only has three cards at the most so far) and then continue. The Second challenge is Tackle and Shoot, easy to get silver, my favourite but difficult to get Gold. Read the directions and press ENTER. You'll be matched up against the ghost "Edgar Cloggs". The first thing to do is to tackle him, using the action key. He'll just be flying in circles, so tackling might be a bit difficult. Go near him using direction keys and press the action key. Once you've gained the Quaffle, head towards the hoops. Edgar will be flying ahead of you to prepare to defend them. A good strategy that almost always works is to head towards one side, misleading the Keeper. Then go goalposts to the other side fast and shoot. Sometimes, he'll even tackle you so be careful. After you've tackled and shot three times, the good-old stats screen. Now, the final challenge BEFORE the first Quidditch match (as the other three are locked) the "Seeking". Read the instructions and press "Enter". Your job is to catch (seek) the sniget. Your Seeker will tell you that a Golden Snidget has escaped from a Snidget Reservation and that since he or she is a Seeker, he or she has been asked to catch it. Madam Hooch will help a bit. You start out behind her and she asks you to follow her trail to get boost. Notice the boost meter on the left of the screen that shows you how much boost you have. Follow her trail very close using the left and right arrow keys and when you have enough boost, she'll fly off, leaving you to catch the Snidget. Press the up arrow key and the action key simultaneously to boost forward. Along with the left and right arrow keys and following the Snidget as close as you can, you'll catch it in no time. Once you're close enough, your Seeker's hand will stretch out, giving you the opportunity to press # pad 6 to catch it. Save your progress, as you have you first match coming up. Now, once you're at the screen with options to go the Challenges, you can play a match against Ravenclaw (Chang), have a practice match (Madam Hooch), play against Hufflepuff (Diggory), or Slytherin (Malfoy), (the last two are locked right now). Check out what you need to do to get your Team Special Move (go to inventory -> view cards -> Gryffindor -> Team Special Move). Here, there are instructions for what you must do to unlock the team special. Remember, you'll have to do it *with* the team that is there. For e.g., if you want to unlock the team special of Gryffindor, you MUST select Gryffindor as your team, not any other like England or Ravenclaw. A Team Special Move allows your team to beat back the opposing team's Snitch bar (it is a bar that is between the scores and as long you extend it, the better because it becomes your boost meter while catching the snitch) with a really cool move during the match. You must get the card (3 things are to be accomplished) to enable your Team Special Move. Let's just have a match against Ravenclaw. You get to a red screen, like in the Challenges, where you were shown the directions while it was loading. But this time, it'll just show the default controls and it won't give you the opportunity to press enter when you're ready (it happens in all the Quidditch matches). So, when it starts, you can press ESC to pause it. The first option says in the pause menu is "Continue", and that will continue the paused game. The second says "Force Feedback" OFF or ON. It is like the "Dual shock system" in the play station. If you use a game pad to play which supports it, it'll vibrate when you loose the Quaffle and when you get barged (seeker or chasers). The last option says "Quit Game". Don't pick that one now as even though it'll ask you if you're sure, your progress in the current game won't be saved. It won't exit you out of the whole game completely (to windows or whatever), but just to the main menu. A pre-game clip, showing the teams flying out of the locker rooms and showing off before facing each other. Then all of the players will gather in a circle around Madam Hooch, who has the Quaffle. Once she throws it up, the game begins, a method you're familiar if you've read the books or watched the movies. Here's what almost always works. Just be first to the Quaffle, or if you're not first to the Quaffle, just fly towards the chaser having the Quaffle and hold action for about 2 seconds and you'll have the Quaffle. Now, start passing hold action button and the up arrow key for 1 sec. and release. do the same until you near to the goal-hoops. Then, hold the shoot button and do as if you shooting where the keeper but immediately, hold the arrow key to opposite direction and shoot (For e.g., fly towards the right hoop but not too close, hold the shoot button and the left arrow key and after about 1 sec, let go of them. Your first goal, yay. Now, the score reads "010" on your board and "000" on the opponent's. Now tackle and pass three or four times then shoot. Rinse and repeat the same tactic over and over again. The extended bar is your boost meter so pass, pass, pass before shooting. In the upcoming matches, you'll get to do combos to increase you meter very fast. but don't pass too much; pass only so that you bar is bigger than the opponent's. You must have seen the your half of the snitch going a bit right and a small bar appears while passing; the bar extends as you keep on passing. When the two parts of the snitch meter joins, its snitch catching time. Just a bit before it. Throughout the whole game, it's either passing lots, scoring little, or passing little, scoring lots. They're both successful. If you pass a lot, you'll have a longer Snitch bar and don't have to worry about the other team getting the Snitch. If you score a lot, you don't have to worry about losing because the other team got the Snitch. At the end, points are the only things that matter not wins and losses. And if you're skilled enough at catching the Snitch, you can get that, too. Now lets get to snitch catching. It is not so different from house challenge; just you'll get full boosts at the beginning and there'll be another seeker. Press # pad 4 to barge the other player and # pad 8 to roll to dodge his/her barge. Else, everything is like the house challenge. Got the snitch, won the game? great; if not try again (you'll have to play the whole game again). If you win, the "Beaters and Bludgers" and "special moves" house challenges will be unlocked. First, lets conquer the "beaters and bludgers" challenge. It is the most difficult to get gold and a bit of difficult to get bronze. You have your Chaser with your Beaters on each side. It's your job to fly around the area looking for targets. That's the easy part. Then, once the word "Bludger" flashes on your screen and you're fairly close to the target, hit # pad 4. A Bludger will be released and you need to guide it with your arrow keys to hit the target. Once you have, you need to evade the returning Bludger and have your Beaters hit it away, which is the hardest part. Do this five times. For this, you might need to try two or three times before getting a BRONZE! You might get frustrated, but it is really fun (the only thing that can be claimed difficult in the whole game for me to get a gold). The next is the "special moves". This is your final challenge before the second match. This is like the "tackle and shoot" but you'll need to use a special move tackle and shoot. You can even dodge (# pad 8). Get close to Edgar and hold the (# pad 6). A circle will appear which you need to direct to Edgar to do the special move tackle do so, when he comes at you dodge and use the same strategy to shoot. Rinse and repeat two more times and you're done. This shouldn't be much of trouble. You've unlocked your second match (against Hufflepuff). You get taken back to the screen entitled "Quidditch Cup" with all the options. It tells you that you can now make Special Move Shots as well by pressing BEATER + SHOOT, (i.e. # pad 4 + # pad 6). It's little difficult because you'll have to press them both exactly at the same time, so you might have to jab your keyboard. For it, you'll need patience and practice. You'll need the special move icon to do it but it's worth it, a 100% guarantee of score if you do it correctly. The only difference between the 1st and the 2nd match is that in the 2nd match, you can dodge, send a Bludger (see FAQ for tips), do a special move or a Team Special Move (if you've unlocked the card). The same strategy here. The AI has only the difference is that they'll pass a bit more than the 1st match but they won't use the Team special move(at least, not in any of my 25 games I've played there). Time for the final challenge, the combos. You start at the middle of the pitch and have three shots to fill up the Snitch bar completely. Use the action key and one or both of the Combo buttons (# pad 7 and 9) to pass. Hold both the action and Combo key down for power and let go after aiming it. Simple. Just continuously pass. The Keeper'll be tough on you, so use the method I've mentioned . To score a Combo shot, press the # pad 6 and # pad 7 button. It's also a good idea, when combo passing, to correspond the Combo button you're using with the direction you're passing it to (# pad 7 for left, # pad 9 for right). You've unlocked the final Hogwarts Quidditch Cup match (against Slytherin). On the Quidditch Cup screen, it tells you that you can use the Combo buttons while dodging, shooting, and passing for a big advantage. This match is the most difficult in Hogwarts as they might use their "Team Special Move" and they pass the ball and tackle more effectively, so you'll need to tackle better and pass often. Rely on combos, because if they use their "Team Special Move", it'll drop your chances of winning. Also, the World Cup is tougher but no need to worry, just practice. After you win the match and the "Hogwarts Cup" (which Prof. Albus Dumbledore gives you). A surprise to your Seeker and Captain, he awards you two shiny tickets to this year's Quidditch World Cup (yeah). Now you can play the world cup, but to win all Quidditch cards (which is "officially" the winning of the game), play the challenges and matches again with all the other teams. also, try to get gold in all of the challenges (if not now, you'll have to do it eventually for all the cards). Now, on to the world cup. You'll advance to a screen labeled "World Cup". This is where you can choose from eight teams (Bulgaria is only available if you have 65 Quidditch cards). England, USA, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, the Nordic Team, and Spain are represented by their Seekers. Choose England (to win all of the Quidditch cards, you must have played with all the teams and won, so we're doing this in order) and the Comet 260 broom (you must have also played with every broom, in the next screen). You advance to the next screen, labeled 'Fixture List.' This is just a lineup of the matches in whatever game you're playing next. Your team will have a little red shield next to it. Also it might be wise to see what to do to get the "Team Special Move" card. You'll skip two matches, no.6 and 13 so that every team gets to play 16 matches (the final is almost always Bulgaria). After winning (same strategies), select For your next team, choose the USA and the Nimbus 2000. Once you win that, choose Japan and the Nimbus 2001. Then Germany and the Firevolt. After that, the only teams left to guide through the Cup are France, Australia, Spain, the Nordic Team, and Bulgaria. Once you've played with all those teams, if you don't have all the cards, go back and see what you're missing. 104 cards in all (you get the last one for getting all the other cards : Edgar Cloggs). You don't get anything special for getting all the cards, so that's a little disappointing. But you've officially completed the game! NOTE: Once you win (only once with any team will do), it tells you that you've unlocked Queerditch Marsh. Any Quidditch fan knows that Queerditch Marsh was where Quidditch was first invented (even mentioned in the introduction). It's a marsh with quaint music playing the whole time. You can only play with Hogwarts House teams there, but the matches are really hard. You'll be surprised. The Queerditch marsh becomes the fourth option and the inventory the fifth in the main menu. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.4 Brooms and # of cards needed to unlock ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are four brooms (skill levels) in the game. The better broom the more difficulty exists. 1. Comet 260: # of cards needed to unlock : 0 The Comet Trading Company's finest racing broom. Although starting to show its age, the Comet 260 is an extremely versatile model and a great first broom for the club Quidditch player. 2. Nimbus 2000: # of cards needed to unlock : 15 One of the Nimbus Racing Broom Company's most successful models. A highly reliable broom with a great turn of speed and exceptional handling. This broom is not for beginners! 3. Nimbus 2001: # of cards needed to unlock : 35 The top of the Nimbus Racing Broom Company's range.
