Hello! Welcome to MajikHunta's first FAQ/Walkthrough. This FAQ/Walkthrough is for Dark Eden, a free MMORPG. This walkthrough is FAR from complete at the moment. ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 4 - Basics --Sub-Section i - Creating Your character-- Okay, so you want to actually start playing right? Well since Dark Eden really doesn't have a manual or anything, I have to explain basic things, including creating your character. So, first create an account and then log in. Once you have done so, click the "create" button in the bottom right corner of the screen. You will now be presented with the create a character screen. Name (Character's name, has to be 4-10 letters/numbers long) Tribe (Are you going to be a vampire or a slayer? Big difference in gameplay, see Vampire / Slayer difference section for more information) Gender (makes no real difference, other than how you look in-game, and your portriat, but portrait doesn't matter since it can be changed at any time) Face Type (your portriat, 3 male & 3 female slayer pictures, but only 1 male & 1 female vampire picutres. You can change this picture at any time, see FAQs section for more information on this. Hair Color (Slayers only, pick your hair colour....) Skin Color (Pick your skin color, availible for both slayers & vamps) To the far right, you can see a bunch of stats, for vampires, the stats cannot be changed, however for slayers they can be changed. The slayers stats are randomly decided. You can re-roll the stats as many times as you like. If you happen to see a set of stats that you like, but are not 100% sure if you want to use them, press the save button. The stats are saved, now you can continue to re-roll. If you cannot get any better stats from re-rolling, then press the load button, and the old stats that you saved are back. What are the stats? Well here is the list: Str (strength) Dex (dexterity) Int (intelligence) HP (Hitpoints, your life, once you run out you are dead...) MP (Mana points, used by slayers to cast spells. Not used by vampires, because vampires use HP to cast spells) Defence Protection ToHit Damage Default Vampire Stats: Str: 20 Dex: 20 Int: 20 HP: 40 MP: 40 (oddly enough, vampires have an MP stat in the creation screen, but they don't in the actual game) Defence: 20 Protection: 1 ToHit: 20 Damage : 1~2 Anyways, once you are finally done making your character click the right arrow. Ta-dah, your character is made. Now double click your character on the character selection screen to start the game!! --Sub-Section ii - Hotkeys-- This section has all of the hotkeys used in Dark Eden. I know you may wonder why I'm including such a simple thing? Well this is the basics section after all, and Dark Eden does not have a very good manual either. Note: If you are using non-enter chat (you don't need to press enter to start typing a message), then you must hold down the CTRL key while pressing the shortcut. Keys pressed: Affect: M Show / Hide Minimap T Show / Hide Character Window at Grade1 tab I Show / Hide Character Window at Character tab P Show / Hide Party Window E Enlarge / Shrink Chat Window S Show / Hide Skill Select Thing F Show / Hide FPS counter (its shows by life bar) H Show / Hide Help Menu K Show / Hide Character window at Magic tab X Show / Hide a thing to select symbols to include in your message that you are sending CTRL + Tab Show / Hide Equiped items Tab Show / Hide Inventory ~ Use quickslot item G Set chat to guild only chat Z Set chat to zone chat ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 5 - FAQs If you have a question, please read through this section to make sure you question has not already been asked, before e-mailing me. Thank you. Q. I looked went to my local EBgames / Gamestop / Wal-Mart / Whatever and couldn't find Dark Eden!! Where do I find it? A. Dark Eden is free! You download it from www.darkeden.com/en for the International (english) version. version,Then click download, its on the left. Then click on "International Download Version". If you want the korean version then go to www.darkeden.com Q. What are Dark Eden's recommended system requirements? A. Operating System: Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP CPU: PII-450 MHZ Memory: 128MB RAM Video: Video Memory 16MB (3D) Direct-X: Direct-X 7A or higher Internet: 56k HDD: 600M (taken directly from the official Dark Eden site) Q. Are there any differences between playing as a vampire or as a slayer? A. Yes, see the Vampire / Slayer Differences section. Q. How do I put a custom portrait picture for my character? A. Open up the Info Window, and then click on your current portrait. Then select the picture you want to use. Take note that if you use a big picture, it will become small, and most likely look very bad. Q. What is alignment? A. Alignment is a system used in Dark Eden to prevent mass PKing. When you attack another player, your alignment goes down. However, if another player attacks you first, and then you attack back, your alignment is not affected. When your alignment is low, you sometimes drop items when you die. Also, if your alignment is very bad, other players can loot your corspe. So don't go about massive PKing. Q. How do I gain back alignment A. If you are not at maximum alignment, you slowly gain back alignment over time. Also, certain NPCs can improve your alignment if you pay them. Q. I'm playing as a vampire and I just learned the skill to turn into a bat, but the skill is red and I can't use it!! A. You need to purchase the bat wing item from a merchant. They are fairly cheap. Also, you will loose one bat wing each time you use the spell, so be sure to stock up on bat wings. Q. How do vampires regain health? A. Bloodsuck a monster with 30% or less HP. Try to make sure its 20% or less, so you will kill it and recieve bonus experience points. They can also use serums, they are the equivelent of potions, however they are also quite expensive, save them for emergencies. Q. Is there a penalty for dying? A. Nope, you just go back to your restoration point, unless ofcourse you have poor alignment, then you might loose items. Q. One of the merchants says he'll transfer my stats for 1 million gold. Is this just one stat transfer or unlimited? A. Unfortunately, just once. Q. Do vampires recieve bonus exp, when an enemy is killed via bloodsuck? A. Yes. If an enemy were to give 3 experiences pts from a normal kill, it would give 7 experience pts from bloodsuck kill. This is just over double the amount of exp! So try to use bloodsuck to take the final kill as much as possible. Q. How do I increase my characters "Fame" A. Kill monsters and complete quests. Q. For slayers, wut does "Growth Level Limit" mean? A. Its the skill's maximum level. Once the skill reaches that level, it won't level up anymore. Q. I want to delete one of my characters, but it tells me I need a private key?? A. You recieved a "Private key" when you made your account. If you didn't write down the private key, then unfortunately you will not be able to delete any of your characters, tough luck. Q. How come you don't have ASCII maps for every area? A. Well there are two reasons for this. The first reason is that some places, such as Bathory Dungeon B1 really don't need maps. The second reason is that I might not have drawn a map for that place yet. The is mostly likely because it is hard to draw, so I put it off... Q. I have a question that isn't asked in this FAQ, where do I ask it? A. Ask at Dark Eden Message Board on GameFAQs. Trust me, the people there, although they don't respond that fast, they respond faster than I respond to my e-mails. But if you question isn't answered there, send me an e-mail at [email protected]. Please make sure the subject line has "Dark Eden FAQ/Walkthrough" in it, or it is possible that I may not read it. Also, please DO NOT send the same message more than once. Like I said before, I don't check my e-mail very often, so you'll be much better asking the boards. ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 6 - Vampire / Slayer differences *sigh* don't feel like doing this part right now, so its coming soon. ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 7 - Vampire Walkthrough --Castle Limbo / Bathory Dungeon B1-- Well, you start of inside Castle Limbo. Castle Limbo is a town, well a castle actually, but its got all the features of a town, so we'll call it a town. Here is a map of Castle Limbo. ________________________________ |V 6 B | | | | | <-- 1 5--> | | | | | | |R | | S K | | | | | | | | | | 2 3 4 | | | | | C | E | |______________V_______________| Legend: S - where you start V - Valerie (Sells armour, will buy your items) R - Rebecca (Sells beads/gloves, alignment change) C - Capatini (Storage, Sells Serum/Seals, will buy your items) E - Seth (Sells rings/bracelets/necklaces, will buy your items) K - Karcon (Clans, Repair Sells rings/bracelets/necklaces/batwings & wolfclaws/Serums, will buy your stuff) B - Bricolas (Learn spells, set restoration point, go to dif town) 1 - To Castle Limbo NW 2 - To Bathory Dungeon B1 3 - To Castle Limbo SW 4 - To Bathory Dungeon B1 5 - To Castle Limbo SE 6 - To Bathory Dungeon B1 Anyways, well that is Castle Limbo for ya. Go around and talk to the NPCs if you want, although there really isn't too much you can do, since you have no gold. So head to one of the Bathory Dungeon B1 entrances. Take any of them, they just take you to a different area of Bathory Dungeon B1. Your first dungeon. Get used to fighting. Get to level 8 or 9 here before moving on the Bathory Dungeon B2. Although, if you are planning on become a magic based vampire, getting to level 12 wouldn't be a bad idea. Be sure to bloodsuck monsters which are almost dead, as bloodsucking gives significantly more experience points than just killing a monster normally. Also, be sure to pick up all the items you can get. If its not worth equipping, keep it anyways, as you can sell it in town. Lastly, remember to click a monsters corspe after you kill it. This will make them drop either a soulstone or head, varying on wether you are playing teen version or normal version. Both items are the same, just look different. After you've leveled up to level 8 or 9, and you've got a full inventory of items, head back up to Castle Limbo. Sell all soulstones and any other items you don't need. It doesn't matter which merchant you sell to, all will pay the same for each item. Once that is done, head over to Karcon and repair all your current equipment. If you still have any excess gold, head over to any of the merchants to buy some equipment. They usually sell some decent stuff, well atleast better than anything you could of found in Bathory Dungeon B1. Finally, head over to Bricolas and learn hide. If you making a magic based vampire learn Hands of Wisdom. It is very powerful if you put all your points into intelligence so far. After that, head back down to Bathory Dungeon B1, then take the stairs down to Bathory Dungeon B2. --Bathory Dungeon B2 / Ghorgova Tunnel-- When you enter here you may get totally pwned by a slayer. Slayers are known to camp at the entrance of Bathory Dungeon B2, and unfortunately, unless you've got a high level character, there is nothing you can do about it, except try a different entrance and hope that there aren't any slayers there. If you do get pwned, don't worry there aren't any death penalties in Dark Eden. If all three entrances are blocked, you can continue to level in Bathory Dungeon B1 or try playing at a different time. Unfortunately, this is one of Dark Eden's downsides, playing at a popular time, when you aren't a high level, will result in getting pwned. Anyways, enough about my getting pwned by high level slayers rant. Try to level up here to atleast level 14. Head back up to town if you're inventory is more than half full to sell and repair stuff. Now you have a choice between either Bathory Dungeon B3 or Ghorgova Tunnel. Personally, I recommend Ghorgova. In Bathory Dungeon B3, all the monsters are crowded together, and this is not a good thing at your level, although you can try it if you've got a decent sized party. Well, if you decided to go for Ghorgova, (like I recommended), then take the entrance to Bathory Dungeon B1 by Valerie (6 on the ASCII map). Take the closed stairs down to B2. Go right a bit then north. You'll be at the entrance to Ghorgova Tunnel. The monsters here are fairly hard, but still killable at your current level and give amazing experience. Two kills will get level you from 14 to 15. 3-4 kills will get you to 16. That is, if you bloodsuck. Will take about double that if you don't. So be sure to bloodsuck the kill, not only does it give extra exp, but it also HEALS you. This is very important, as they monsters will be doing pretty serious damage to you. Try to avoid packs of monsters until level 20 or so. Fight them one by one. Try to level up to level 22 at least. If you are struggling in Ghorgova, then you can always stay in Bathory Dungeon B2, but the exp no where near as good, but still not bad. Once level 22 or higher, and you've got a some items to sell, head back to town. First go to Karcon. Sell anyitems you don't need, repair your items, then head over to Bricolas and learn "Transform to Bat". Be sure to pick up some bat wings, because you'll need them to use transform to bat. If you are an intelligence vampire, learn Acid Bolt (and yellow poison if you want). Heck, you might as well learn all the skills availble, since there really isn't any harm in doing so. Although, chances are you won't use half of them. --Castle Limbo SE / Dungeon of Castle Limbo-- Once you've done all the town stuff (I'm going to call it "town stuff" from now, its basically the repair, sell stuff, buy items if you want and learn any new skills), head over to Castle Limbo SE. Its 5 on the ASCII map of Castle Limbo. Anyways, here is the ASCII of Castle Limbo SE. _____________________________________ |1 2 \ \ | | \ \ | | | | \ \ | | 5 \ \___| | 10 L \____| | | | | | 9 6 | |4 3| | | | 8 7 | | | | | | | | | | | | | |____________________________________| Legend: 1 = To Castle Limbo 2 = To Castle Limbo NE 3 = To Eslain SW 4 = To Castle Limbo SW 5 = To Dungeon of Castle Limbo 6 = To Dungeon of Castle Limbo 7 = To Dungeon of Castle Limbo 8 = To Dungeon of Castle Limbo 9 = To Dungeon of Castle Limbo 10 = To Dungeon of Castle Limbo L = Larva (Switch to slayer) The NPC is "Larva". He is the NPC that will turn you into a slayer. I really don't recommend doing so. You'll start off as a level 1 slayer (unless you've already converted to a slayer before, you'll continue off as that level). You can convert back to a vampire, and you'll be the same level as you were before you transformed to a slayer, however your equipment is gone. So really, the only advantage is that you keep your gold. But that gold will be spent buying back your equipment. If you want to play as a different race, then just start a new character. Anyways, so head down into Dungeon of Castle Limbo. Any entrance will work Get to about level 24. The monsters aren't very difficult, but also give fairly good exp. Then, if you want, head back to town and do the town stuff. Its optional though, as you'll be coming right back here, so unless you have a lot of items to sell, don't bother going back. So, wether you've decided to go back to town or not, go to Castle Limbo SE. Take entrance 5 (labeled 5 on the ASCII map) and enter Dungeon of Castle Limbo again. Go right a bit, then north ASAP. You should see a crack in the wall, enter it, and you'll be in Payarch Tunnel. --Payarch Tunnel-- _____ ___ __ / ____3 | | __ / \ ________________/ / ______ \ /___/ \__/ /\ \/ ________________/ / ___ \/ ___ __ \/ X / / / \ / \ / \ /\ \________________ / / \ |__| __| / \___________ ___ \ 1/ |___| |___/ |__| \ \____ \_____2 Legend: 1 = To Dungeon of Castle Limbo 2 = To Underground Waterways 3 = To Underground Waterways X = Don't go past here just yet... Get about two levels here. I know, only two levels. But thats about all you'll need to get right now. Don't go past the X, as slayers are usually around there. 2 and 3 take you to Underground Waterways, a place were a lot of vampire / slayer battles take place. Once you get to level 42 (invisibility) you can have A LOT of fun here :). But for now, just get two levels (making you level 26) without going past the X. Once level 26, head back to town (Castle Limbo) and do the town stuff. Be sure to learn Bloody Tunnel from Capatini and get a few seals from him so you can use it. Once thats done, head over to Bricolas and ask him to take you to Perona. --Perona-- Welcome to Perona, vampire trading central, no seriously, this is where all the vampires go to trade, and they just had to pick the smallest town too didn't they? Meh, well heres the map: _______________ ____ | M | | | | | | 1 G| | | |_________________________| Legend: M = Murphy (sells pratically everything except seals, go to dif town, will buy your stuff, set restoration point) G = Griffis (sells seals/serums/batwings, repairs items, storage) 1 = Lost Taiyan B1 While some argue that Lost Taiyan B1 provides good exp for your level, well it DOES, but there is some where much much better, as in like 5-6 bloodsuckss to level place. So talk to Murphy and ask him to take you to Castle Rasen. --Rasen Yard / Rasen Outter Castle F1-- Rasen Yard looks very similiar to Castle Limbo. Well, head into Rasen Outter Castle F1. Go into all four rooms and type "Party?" If someone runs up to you an invites you to join the party, well then your lucky, and prepare yourself for some awesome experience. If you didn't get lucky in any of the four rooms, your stuck in the hallway. Oh, and make sure you have "Invitation Reject Mode" Off. (Click the hand icon thing in the party menu to change it). If its on, then you'll automatically reject any invites, and you wouldn't want to do that would you? So if you are in a party, just stay within that room and try to help kill some of the monsters. You won't be very helpful at this point, but hey, just look like you are TRYING, so your party doesn't get mad and kick you out. If you were unlucky and weren't able to join a party, well then you shall be stuck in the hallway trying to level up. It may be hard to kill at this point, however you should be able to take monsters on in a 1vs1 (Don't go for groups of monsters...) Well, in Rasen Outter Castle F1, get yourself to level 42, a level that is considered to be the "turning point" for vampires, I wonder why? *cough invisibility cough*. This WILL take kinda long, like at least 30-45 minutes, if you are in a party, more if you aren't. Well once you hit the golden level, leave Rasen Outter Castle F1, and go back to Rasen Yard, talk to Kaim and learn invisibility and any other spells you may want to learn. ...more coming soon ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 8 - Slayer Walkthrough --Eslain NW / Training Place 1-- Okay, so you start off in Eslain NW. Well basically from there, head down onto the warp beacon and enter Training Place 1. Get to about level 15, and get used to the gameplay (If you've already played as a vampire, the slayer is actually quite different, so it may take some getting used too). If your HP is low, you can use a healing ampul, all though you should take note that they heal such a minimumal amount of HP / MP, that you'll probally end up using all of them to heal yourself fully once, so its probally better of going to Dennis to heal, as she'll heal you fully for free. The great part about this area is that you will not encounter ANY vampires, none what so ever, not even any high level slayers to PK you. This place is low level slayers only (yes, that means no coming back here when you are higher level). Once level 15, head back to town and sell any excess items, buy new items if you can afford, repair your equipment and learn any new skills for whatever class you are mastering. (I'll have a map for Eslain NW very soon, so you can figure out which NPC does what). Anyways, take the north-west exit of town. Try to get into a party and level up to level 20. You don't need a party, but it makes things go faster. Also, be prepared to die a lot here. Tons of vampires camp here, but don't worry, you'll be able to get revenge... when you get to a higher level. Stay near town when leveling up. Also, if you die from bloodsuck, be sure to enter the cleric guild building and talk to "Thing" (Yes, the doctor's name is "Thing" o___0). He can remove the bloodsuck to make sure you don't turn into a vampire, well unless you WANT to turn into a vampire, but I wouldn't recommend it since you lose all your equipment and go back to level one (Only thing you keep is your gold -_-"). ..damn vampires camping out of town so i'll continue slayer walkthrough later. ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 9 - Skills This section has information on what each skill does for both vampires and slayers. Magic is learned by talking to certain NPCs. For vampires, one NPC can teach you all the spells, while for slayers, you'll have to go to different NPCs to learn different skill types, so for example, if you wanted to learn blade skills, you'd go to one NPC, but to learn healing skills, you'd go to another. --Sub-Section i - Vampire Skills-- --Sub-Sub-Section A - Innate Skills-- ~Blood Drain~ Required Level: You start with this skill Description: Blood drain is the most basic vampire skill. Use it on monsters with 30% or less HP to heal yourself. If you use it on a monster almost dead (15-20% or less), then you will recieve bonus experience points. ~Hide~ Required Level: 3 Description: This skill allows the vampire to hide in the ground. You cannot move when you are hidden. You become invisible to monsters and low level slayers. High level slayers have an ability that allows them to see you. ~Hands of Wisdom~ Required Level: 5 Description: A very short range, but very powerful (early on) spell for magic based vampires. If you put most of your stat points into Int, your vampire will be very powerful at early stages with this skill. ~Darkness~ Required Level: 15 Description: Creates a medium-sized foggy cloud so it is difficult for slayers to see any vampires within the cloud ~Transform to Bat~ Required Level: 20 Description: Turn into a bat which moves faster, cannot be hit by MOST monsters. Very helpful for getting to places. Take note that it uses one "Bat Wing" item every time you use the skill. Once in bat form, you can travel in bat form for as long as you wish. But you are unable to go into towns in bat form. ~Transform to Wolf~ Required Level: 32 Description: Turn into a wolf that moves very fast, however unlike when you are a bat, you can attack, but can also be attacked. Like bat, you cannot be a wolf in towns. transforming into a wolf also takes up one "Wolf Claw" item per use. ~Invisibility~ Required Level: 42 Description: Turns the vampre invisible to all slayers. Monsters and other vampires can see you though. When you attack you become visible. However, any level 70 or higher enchant slayer has an ability ("Visible") that allows them to see you, these slayers will have an eyeball ontop of them. ~Rapid Gliding~ Required Level: 47 Description: Instantly move to a spot nearby. Good for escaping packs of monsters. ~Dark Revenge~ Required Level: 63 Description: Increases your damage temporarilly. If you use any other spell, the effect goes away. ~Meteor Strike~ Required Level: 100 Description: Calls down a deadly meteor to damage a large area for massive amounts of damage. ~Soul Chain~ Required Level: 100 Description: Instantly teleport to any vampire. --Sub-Sub-Section B - Poison Skills-- ~Poisonous Hands~ Required Level: 6 Description: Deal minimal poisenous damage. ~Green Poison~ Required Level: 12 Description: Poisons a monster or slayer (doesn't work for PKing fellow vampires). The monster or slayer will slowly take poison damage for a short period of time. ~Yellow Poison~ Required Level: 18 Description: Shortens the vision of the target. The target will only be able to see directly around them for a short period of time. ~Green Stalker~ Required Level: 24 Description: Similiar to green poison, except lasts significanltly longer and deals slightly more damage. ~Darkblue Poison~ Required Level: 30 Description: When cast on a slayer, the slayer slowly loses MP untill he/she is out of MP. Must be healed for effect to go away. This skill is useless against vampires and monsters, as they don't have MP. ~Poison Strike~ Required Level: 34 Description: Inflicts heavy poisonous damage on a single target. ~Poison Storm~ Required Level: 48 Description: Does fairly high poisonous damage to a medium-sized area. --Sub-Sub-Section C - Acid Skills-- ~Acid Touch~ Required Level: 9 Description: Adds acid damage to your attacks. ~Acid Bolt~ Required Level: 21 Description: ~Acid Ball~ Required Level: 38 Description: ~Acid Strike~ Required Level: 44 Description: ~Acid Swamp~ Required Level: 46 Description: ~Acid Storm~ Required Level: 55 Description: --Sub-Sub-Section D - Blood Skills-- ~Bloody Tunnel~ Required Level: 25 Description: ~Blood Mark~ Required Level: 28 Description: ~Transfusion~ Required Level: 50 Description: Revive or heal a fellow, partied vampire. Takes away from your own life though. ~Bloody Nail~ Required Level: 54 Description: ~Bloody Knife~ Required Level: 58 Description: ~Blood Wave~ Required Level: 64 Description: ~Bloody Ball~ Required Level: 68 Description: ~Bloody Strike~ Required Level: 72 Description: ~Bloody Wall~ Required Level: 78 Description: ~Bloody Storm~ Required Level: 90 Description: ~Bloody Spear~ Required Level: 94 Description: ~Bloody Breaker~ Required Level: 99 Description: ~Bloody Strike~ Required Level: 100 Description: --Sub-Sub-Section E - Curse Skills-- ~Paralyze~ Required Level: 27 Description: ~Doom~ Required Level: 36 Description: ~Seduction~ Required Level: 52 Description: ~Death~ Required Level: 78 Description: --Sub-Sub-Section F - Summon Skills-- ~Summon Casket~ Required Level: 73 Description: ~Metamorpheles~ Required Level: 97 Description: --Sub-Section ii - Slayer Skills-- --Sub-Sub-Section A - Sword Skills-- --Sub-Sub-Section B - Blade Skills-- --Sub-Sub-Section C - Gun / Bomb Skills-- --Sub-Sub-Section D - Heal Skills-- --Sub-Sub-Section E - Enchant Skills-- ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 10 - Strategies In this section there will be strategies of different ways of raising your characters. Got a unique / effective way to raise your character? Melee Vampire: The melee vampire is a fairly powerful way to train a vampire. It is strong both early game and late game. Stat distribution should be 2 str, 1 dex. No points in int. Spellcasting Vampire: The spellcasting vampire is fairly weak at the begining. You'll have to use "Hands of Wisdom" from level 5 untill level 21. Hands of Wisdom is great untill level 15, were it begins to do very little damage to the monsters that you should be killing at your level. Anyways, Spellcasting Vampires really aren't too strong at low levels. When they get a new skill, they usually own for 2-3 levels, then suck again untill they get another new spell. However, by level 72 (Bloody Strike) you should be fine. The spells from that level are all VERY powerful and you'll be using them for the rest of the game. As for stats, put all three in intelligence. Trust me, you won't regret it. At high levels, all your points invested into intelligence will cause you to do INSANELY HIGH amounts of damage, not to mention that half of the spells do area damage! ...slayer strategies coming soon... ===================================================================== ===================================================================== Section 11 - Item List - Vampires This is a list of all the items for vampires.
