Yes you can get gold and experience in the game without buying it. But, the catch is when you first start out, the free tanks are pathetic you seldom survive for long because it doesn't take much to destroy you. You will think "Upgrade!" Then you find how earning experience and gold is torturously slow. Any upgrades require researching it first. That costs experience points. Then you have to buy the upgrade with gold or points that cost gold. Everything costs- repairs, ammo, repair kits, crew enhancements, and more. Even after you spen a small fortune upgrading the lower tier tanks to the maximum, they still are easily destroyed. They do a good job of having so many different ways of 'pricing' stuff and several conversion of gold to experience and such, that you have a hard time figuring out if it's worth the expense to do certain things. Then, even after you THINK you have created a competitive vehicle, one shot to total destruction will wake you up from that dream! The game IS fun, no doubt! But, it's also designed to pull you in so that if you do like it, you will spend the money to buy the gold just so you can be competitive. Some of the big tanks cost millions in the game! And buying gold with real money is expensive, very expensive! If you wanted a top level tank and bought gold with cash, you would have hundreds of real dollars in in. Doubt me? Check the conversion rates! If you have a friend with the game, ask to see the tank catalog and check the prices remembering those are just for the tank. All upgrades cost and there are a lot of them!I really think that this is what's going to kill this game unless something is done to at least try to make the non paying experience enjoyable and to tone down the costs for the pay to play people. There are just too many other games out there that would give a better value for the money. I hope one of the other game publishers makes a similar game that isn't such a obvious money grab.
