Orcs Must Die 3 Cheats and Tips

Orcs Must Die 3 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Take a look at our tips to get help in the game.

Orcs Must Die 3 is an action-tower defense game that is the fourth installment in the Orcs Must Die series. The game is similar to its predecessors in that you take the role of one of two apprentice war mages and are tasked with defending rifts from an onslaught of orc armies by using the characters' weapons and special abilities, as well as setting traps. Orcs Must Die 3 introduces a new feature called War Scenarios, which tasks you with defending against armies of orcs at a much larger scale (up to 1,000). This mode utilizes oversized traps, referred to as War Machines, to defend your castle and its rift from the larger armies.

Placement of Traps is Crucial

Whether you are playing a story mission or Endless mode, it is crucial that you position your traps in the right place at the right time. Your objective is to make 'killboxes', sections of the map where you know the orcs must travel through as deadly as possible by placing as many traps there as possible. Using barriers to block off paths, so you funnel the Orcs into your killboxes is as important as placing the traps. Even the most basic of traps if positioned strategically is capable of causing chaos to the Orc ranks. Use different types of traps, so you create a deathtrap no Orc can escape from. Remember that the best type of traps for armored Orcs are electric spikes and for spread damage in general use traps that have elemental effects.

Struggling to Progress

If you find that you are struggling to progress in the campaign it may be because you need additional Skulls to spend on increasing the effectiveness of your traps. The easiest way in which you can earn additional Skulls in Orcs Must Die 3 is through the Weekly Challenge or grinding them by playing Endless mode.

How to get More Skulls Quickly

Skulls is the currency used in Orcs Must Die 3, and they are needed in order to upgrade weapons and traps. At the start of each level you are given Skulls, the amount you receive is determined by how quickly you managed to complete the previous level and how many rift points you had left at the end. If you played the level on a high difficulty, you will also receive a bonus. The higher the difficulty, the bigger the bonus.

The easiest way to get plenty of Skulls quickly is to play through story mode and then return to your favorite early level in the game. When you now return to this level you will have lots of upgrades for your weapons and traps which you didn't have previously, and you will be able to play the level on a high difficulty, so you get the bonus at the end and still get a perfect run. Just keep repeating until you have the desired number of Skulls.

Upgrade your Weapon to the Max

Regardless of how many traps you have placed, the key to victory in the majority of the rounds will be your weapon. It is therefore important that you continually upgrade it whenever possible, so it is at it's maximum potential. Your weapon can be used to thin out attacking waves of opponents early on and stop enemies breaking through before they even reach the rift.

Sell Ineffective Traps

You can always sell traps you have in place that are ineffective or have become obsolete between two waves of opponents without loss. This is something you should always consider doing if you have traps that are not beneficial, as the financial resources it frees up by selling them can be spent more effectively elsewhere.

Intercept Small Opponents Early On

Make sure you deal with the small elusive enemies as soon as they appear because if they are not stopped effectively, they can set off many of your traps which will pave the way for stronger enemies to follow unhindered while your traps are tied up with the 'cool down phase' from being set off.

Unlock Upgrade Cards for Traps and Weapons

In order to get perfect runs on the Story mode levels, it is essential that you get your hands on the advanced upgrades, which add special modifiers to your traps and weapons. These include things like increasing the damage to the secondary fire or adding elemental damage. To unlock these upgrade cards requires completing the challenges that can be found on the upgrade page for each trap or weapon. Simply look at the progress bar and read the short description to find out what the challenge is. Most of them are straight forward and simple, with some you will be able to complete naturally during the course of play.

Use Fewer but Stronger Types of Trap Early On

During the early rounds in particular, it is recommended that you only use one or two types of trap and focus on upgrading them. Although doing this will come at the expense of not having a variety of traps at your disposal, it will reduce the cost of the traps you have selected significantly and increase the damage they cause. This means you get powerful defense tools that can be placed in larger numbers due to the reduced cost.
