This is my twenty- something FAQ, but I've kinda lost count with all the projects I've got running at the moment. I'm writing this guide because this game needed a complete FAQ, in fact it was sat in the GameFAQs top 100 wanted FAQs for a long while. So I'm here to help out. Supply and demand if you will :) Usually this kind of game isn't my scene, I find simulation games a bit on the slow side. However, I'm finding the DS short of titles to my taste so I gave this one a shot (this is a Rare title after all). Maybe the glory days have long past for Rare, but I think they've done a brilliant job of bringing Viva Pinata over to the handheld world. If you want to see any more of my works follow this link: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/76852.html Thanks for looking, I hope you find this FAQ useful. -TrulyDexterous _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [GMBC] ( / | 4) G a m e B a s i c s | \ |_____________________________________________________| .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 4a) G a m e M o d e s [GBGM] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' G a r d e n The garden is where the main story will be played out. Attract and breed new Pinatas to raise your Gardener Level and reach 100% completion. E p i s o d e s Episodes are basically training tutorials. You will unlock these as you progress through the garden mode. Often they will teach you about more advanced techniques such as how to milk the Moozipans etc. The episodes are presented by one of the garden 'personalities'. P l a y g r o u n d The playground should be treated as your testing centre. You can use any Pinata or plant that you have already unlocked in garden mode. Come into the playground to try out new theories or master certain techniques without it affecting your actual garden (I usually use it to try and get the fencing to work). .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 4b) G a m e S c r e e n s [GBGS] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' T o p S c r e e n EVENTS WINDOW The events window will alert you to anything new that is happening within your garden. New appearances, residents, romancers, variants, certificates and more will all appear within this window. CLOCK In the top right hand corner of the screen is the clock. I'm pretty sure you know what a clock does, but just in case you are an alien, CLOCKS TELL THE TIME OF DAY. In Viva Pinata, there are actual days and nights, though these are not real time. Whilst most Pinatas are active in the day, some are nocturnal and will only appear at night. EXPERIENCE The experience guage takes the form of flower petals, around GUAGE the edge of the clock. As your completion percentage increases, the petals will turn blue. Once all of the petals have changed colour, your Gardener Level will increase by 1. MONEY Next to the clock, you can view how many chocolate coins you have. You need coins to buy certain items, seeds and even Pinatas. You can earn money by selling just about anything, but higher level items and Pinatas are generally worth a lot more money. GARDENER Your gardener level can be seen just below the clock. The LEVEL higher your Gardener Level, the more Pinatas, plants and items you can unlock. Your level will increase when you fill the experience guage and it's is usually at a certain game completion percentage. REQUIREMENTS This can be viewed along the bottom of the top screen. Select INFO a Pinata and it will bring up any current requirements that it has. Vistors will show residential requirements, residents will show romance requirements. When all romance requirements have been met "Ready to Romance" will appear, which as you might have guessed, means its ready to romance. If you touch the picture of the Pinata on the right hand side of this section (after switching screens) you can view some basic information about it, including any requirements that have yet to be completed. TERRAIN INFO If you do not select a Pinata, the requirments info section will show info on the terrain that the cursor is sat upon, as well as how many percent of each type of terrain you garden is made up of. This comes in handy, as some Pinatas want you to have certain percentages of certain terrain for you to meet their requirements. T o u c h S c r e e n GARDEN VIEW This is where you will view all the action. Use the stylus to interact will Pinatas, items, plants, houses and pretty much anything on the game screen. If you select a Pinata and hold the stylus down, you can drag the stylus to items to make the Pinata interact with them. Using this technique, you can make Pinatas eat fruit or veg, as well as helping Pinatas to romance. MAP OVERVIEW Select this from the top left hand corner and you will be taken to a birds-eye view of the garden. See the Map Overview section below for more on this. SWITCHING In the very top right hand corner is the switch screens icon. SCREENS Initiating this will allow you to interact with the top screen whilst you can still view the garden on the top screen. TOOLS The tool icon can be found to the left of the switch screens icon. Open this up to use the shovel, grass and fertilizer. See the Tools & Rescources section below for more on this. SHOPS Select this to open up the shops menu. You can choose from Costolots, Willy Builder, Gretchen Fetchem or Bart. See the shops section directly below this for more info. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 4c) S h o p s [GBSP] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' Here is a little basic information about the shops in the game. For complete shop lists see the appropriate chapter further down the guide. C o s t o l o t s Costolots is your general store. Pretty much everything that isn't a Pinata, or a house can be purchased here. Buy seeds that can grow into plants, trees or vegetables. You can also buy any fruits or vegetables that you have already grown. Any produce that you have already gained can also be bought here (Wool, Gooseberry Fool, Cheese etc). Produce usually comes from Bart creating it, or a Pinata making it (Wool, Milk, Honey). You can buy a Sprinkler, who will be employed to water your plants buy visiting the "Helpers" section. To the right of this you can purchase an upgraded watering can. Next to this you will find the long grass seed. To the right of the grass seed is the decorations section. In here you will find many items that are essential for attracting certain types of Pinata. Along the bottom line you will find fencing (which I personally find to be useless) and paving (you'll never need this). Later in the game, after you have helped Ivor the beggar, he will open up a store within Costolots. In this store are various special items, including the Gem Tree! The final option is the Sell icon, where you can umm...sell stuff. I v o r B a r g a i n Ivor is the beggar that you will see mooching around from time to time. If you meet his requirements, then he will open up a shop within Costolots. His shop contains loads of useful items which will help you through the game. There are a total of three watering can upgrades that you can get here. There's a handle upgrade for the shovel, as well as a head upgrade that you can use the whack the Dastardos with. You can buy a Gem Tree seed, allowing you to grow your own Gems. Finally you can grab a couple of statues that will scare away the Dastardos, as well as Professor Pester, a Water Waiver which will make your plants use less water and a Lantern o' Loot which will double the value of any chocolate coins you will find in the garden. W i l l y B u i l d e r Willy Builder is a...(guess?)...Builder! Who is paid to come up with these names? Anyway, you will need Willy to build Pinata houses. Each and every Pinata will require a house before you can romance them. You wouldn't want you and your girlfriend's private parts on view for all to see and I guess it is the same for Pinatas. The house will also provide Pinatas protection from the rain, as leaving Pinatas outside whilst it is raining will affect their happiness. In addition to this, Pinatas cannot be harmed by Ruffians or Sours whilst they are in their house. The houses won't just pop up out of no where. Instead a crate can be placed on the map (where ever you want it) and Willy will work on it. Make sure you don't try and cram houses close together and try and leave plenty of space in front of the entrance. Pinatas can be a pain in the backside and won't go in their house if their is the slightest obstacle in their path. This can get seriously annoying when you are trying to romance them. Construction of the house will only take a minute or so and once it is done, make sure you smash the crate with the shovel. As soon as you have done this, the house is ready for use. As well as Pinata houses, there are 4 additional buildings available. HONEY HIVE : This is required for Buzzlegums to create Honey. MILKING SHED : This is required for Moozipans to be milked. MINE : Build one of these and send a Candary equipped with a Gas Mask down it. Repeat this and eventually the Candary will bring out a Dragonache egg. SHEARING SHED: This is required for a Goobaa to produce Wool. G r e t c h e n F e t c h e m Gretchen is a Pinata hunter. You can send her out to capture any Pinata that has previously been resident in your garden. This is an immensely useful service, for a couple of reasons. First of all, let's say that you attract a Horstachio into your garden and make it a resident. Then, for some reason you can't get another one to appear (or you're too impatient to wait for one) then you can simply send Gretchen out to catch another. Depending on your Gardener Level, she can catch between 1 and 4 of the same Pinata at a time. Once you have sent Gretchen out, she will take a short while to catch the Pinata. You will be alerted on the events screen when Gretchen returns. She will hold onto the Pinata until you visit here and again and decide to release it. To do so you need to choose the square with the caged Pinata in it, then select your Pinata before placing it in the garden. Another use for Gretchen is for catching prey Pinatas. If you want to make a Pinata resident, but for example, it needs to eat 5 Raisants. If you have no Raisants in your garden, you can send Gretchen out to catch them, allowing the Pinata to become a resident. If you have a Pinata in your garden, but you don't have the time/space/need to romance it yet, you can sell it, then buy it back at a more opportune time. B a r t Bart will weave his magic to create new produce. Once you have selected Bart, pick an item in the garden and he will come and change it into different item. This can't be done with everything, only certain things. Here is a list of what can be converted: Apple - Toffee Apple Banana - Banana Split Bread - Sandwich Carrot - Carrot Cake Corn - Bread Gooseberry - Gooseberry Fool Honey - Medicine Jack O'Lantern - Pumpkin Blackberry - Jam Milk - Cheese Monkey Nut - Peanut Butter Gem - Rainbow Gem Toadstool - Mushroom Many Pinatas require produce to meet various requirements, so bear that in mind when attracting and romancing Pinatas. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 4d) T o o l s & R e s o u r c e s [GBTR] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' S h o v e l The first tool available to you is the one that you will probably make the most use of. The shovel has four different functions. You shovel will be upgraded at various points in the game, making it stronger and allowing it to perform more functions. The first takes the green icon at the top of the tool menu. Select this and you can tap a Pinata or object with the end of the shovel. If you tap a sleeping Pinata, it will wake up and if you tap the top of a Pinata house, all the Pinatas inside will vacate. The second icon is a orangey-coloured one. Select this and you can whack things with your shovel. Use this to break things that you no longer want in your garden. Break open Pinatas, destroy weeds or Sours. However, you may want to sell things such as normal Pinatas, trees, plants etc. Things like Sour Pinatas and the like need to be whacked at certain times. The third icon is dirt coloured. This option allows you to dig up the ground and create dirt. This is particularly useful at the start of the game, where the entire terrain is rubble. You can also use this to turn water back into solid ground. The final icon is not available at the start of the game. When you reach Level 4 or so, your shovel will be upgraded so that you can create areas of water in your garden. This is essential so that you can attract certain water loving Pinatas to the garden. W a t e r i n g C a n To the left of the shovel, you will find the watering can icon. Select this and you can water the plants that you have in the garden. Just select the icon and then touch the plant that you want to water. As you are watering, you can see how much water you have left in the can by looking at the guage on the icon. When it is empty, you cannot pour any more water. If you stop watering and leave the watering can alone, it will automatically refill. As you progress through the game, you will find there are upgraded watering cans available. The upgrades generally hold more water. G r a s s S e e d You will have normal grass seed available at the start of the game. Just scatter this bad boy over dirt and you will have grass. However, if you try and plant grass seeds on rubble, they won't grow. Later in the game, you will unlock the long grass seed. You need to have some of this in the garden to attract certain Pinatas. In reality though, it's not much different from the normal grass seed. F e r t i l i z e r The different fertilizers that you have will be saved in this menu. For more information on fertilizers see the Plants section below. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. |4e) G r o w i n g P l a n t s , T r e e s & V e g e t a b l e s [GBPT]| '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' P l a n t s Usually plants can be grown either in dirt or grass (or water in some cases). To begin with, you will need a seed. These can be bought from Costolots, left by dead plants or gifted by Seedo. Once you have your seed, then you need to find some clear space to plant it. You can't place plants too close to each other. Once the seed is in the ground, a sapling will shoot up pretty quickly. You will need to keep this watered, otherwise it won't grow. If you select (or water) a plant then a drop of water with a face will appear next to it. Depending on its expression, your plant will be in one of 5 states of happiness. VERY UNHAPPY - The worst. The plant will soon die. UNHAPPY FACE - The plant is short of water and needs help before it begins to die. SLIGHT SMILE - The plant is doing okay and is growing well. Could use a little more water but it should be fine until it becomes unhappy. BIG SMILE - This is the face you should aim for. When watering, stop when this face appears. The plant has plenty of water and is developing well. NO EXPRESSION- Overwatered. This will slow the plants growth for a while, but after a while it will dry up and be okay. Water plants (Bullrushes, Waterlilies and Watercress) do not need watering, as they grow in water already. Once the plant reaches maturity (after about a day), it will bloom. It will stay like this for a few days, before dropping it's flower and leaving behind a seed. Then you can plant the seed and the cycle goes around! Whilst a plant is growing, you can fertilize it to gain a variantion of that plant. Actually, all fertilized plants produce a triple-flowered version of themselves. However, it isn't as easy as just throwing fertilizer on it and the job is done. Each plant has a different colour fertilizer that must be used on it to work. Fertilizer is 'produced' by Tafflies, who eat a certain colour on fruit and 'produce' a certain colour fertilizer depending on the colour of the fruit. Here are the fruits and the colour of fertilizer that they produce: Apple - Red Acorn - Green Banana - Yellow Blackberry - Blue Fir Cone - Brown Gooseberry - Green Hazelnut - Brown Monkeynut - Brown Nightshade - Blue You can check the colour fertilizer required for a plant in the Encyclopedia or in the Plant Guide section of this FAQ. Another way to fertilize a plant is to make a Cocoadile produce Cocoadile Tears. Just direct the Cocoadile to an immature plant and the Cocoadile will cry on it, fertilizing it in the process. T r e e s & B u s h e s Once they are fully-grown, trees produce fruit on a daily basis. They pretty much require the same kind of care that plants do, except trees need watering a lot more often. It takes them longer to reach maturity, so keep an eye on its happiness. Once your tree is all grown up, you can expect it to drop around 3 pieces of fruit a day. This can be fed to Pinatas or sold for cash. If you shake the tree, the fruit will drop from the tree. However, if you haven't left it long enough then in won't be ripe. When fruit isn't ripe, or is rotten, red lines will emit from it. Trees will remain for a very long time and some will never die. V e g e t a b l e s Vegetables must be planted in dirt. Water them as you would do a plant or bush and they will grow to maturity. When this happens, the vegetable will just pop out of the ground, leaving nothing behind. If you want more vegetables then you will have to buy from seeds. L a z y G a r d e n i n g There are a couple of ways in which you can neglect breaking out the watering can. First of all the weather can be your friend. If it is raining, then the plants get watered. Great. After a while, you will have the option to buy a Sprinkler. This is a helper who will come every day and water your plants. She will leave at night time though, so make sure your plants don't die of thirst during the night. The Sprinkler is a great investment, so don't waste time in buying one as soon as she becomes available. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 4f) T h r e a t s T o Y o u r G a r d e n [GBTG] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' S o u r P i n a t a s Sour Pinatas will appear in your garden on occasion. When this happens, you will be alerted to their presence. Sour Pinatas are not really a direct threat to your garden, but they will leave Sour Candy around the place. If one of your Pinatas eats the Sour Candy, then they will become ill. So how do you deal with Sours? The ideal way is to make them a resident which in turn will make them evolve into their placcid alto-egos (i.e. non-sour). However, this may not always be possible due to a lack or the right Pinata or item. If this situation occurs, feel free to smash them to pieces with the shovel. If you do this, make sure you whack any Sour Candy that is left behind too. Once you have made a species of Sour Pinata a resident, you will earn a Sour Blocker. These statues sit around the edge of the garden and ward off any Sours of that species (e.g. the Sour Shellybean Blocker will stop Sour Shellybeans from appearing). You can turn these Blockers off if you wish, just select them then press the icon next to the Tool Menu. R u f f i a n s Ruffians will occasionally appear in your garden. This are red guys with evil faces, that will appear on their own, or in small groups of 2 or 2. Left to their own devices, they will drop Sour Candy in your garden and sometimes they will smash one of your Pinatas! To get rid of Ruffians, there are a few things that you can do. If you have a Barkbark, then it will keep Ruffians away from the garden. If you have a Mallowwolf, it can bark at them to scare them away. As well as this (I think) that they won't appear if you have the Captain's Cutlass in your garden. As well as using Pinatas, you can just try whacking them over the head a lot. Eventually this will scare them away. This can be quite ineffective if there is a group of them though. The last way, is to pay them off. Select a Ruffian and you will see an icon next to the Tool Menu. Select this and you can pay the Ruffians to leave your garden alone. 220 chocolate coins is usually enough. Don't forget, if there is more than one Ruffian, you will have to pay them all. This happens in later levels where two and even three Ruffians will appear at once. P r o f e s s o r P e s t e r Apparently this guy is the leader of the Ruffians. He will appear and act pretty much like the Ruffians, except there is only one way to get rid of him. Buy the Captain's Cutlass from Ivor's shop and he will be kept at bay. S i c k n e s s Certain instances can make Pinatas ill. Most commonly, this occurs when rival Pinatas fight. The losing Pinata will become ill. When a Pinata is ill, you are alerted to this. You should note that this doesn't happen when one Pinata is preying on another, it only happens when rivals fight. Pinatas can also become ill when they eat Sour Candy. See the above sub-sections for more on this. When a Pinata is ill, the Dastardos will come into the garden. If he reaches the Pinata, he will take it away and it will die. To avoid this happening you can do a few things. First of all you can pay for Doctor Patchingo to come and heal the Pinata. If you have a Chewnicorn in the garden, it can heal the Pinata without any cost. Finally, if it is Pinata that yo don't want, you can always smash it and get the Happiness Candy from inside it. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 4g) M a k i n g M o n e y [GBMM] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' There are numerous ways to make chocolate coins. Some will gain you a few coins, whereas others will help you on your way to a huge pile of cash. The first and least effective way to get money is to find it in your garden. This can be done by smashing any junk that is lying around. The junk will leave behind a random amount of cash. Once you have the shovel upgrade that allows you to have water in your garden, you can find more coins. As you dig down, ocassionally you will find coins that are buried in the ground. Finding coins can be a nice (albeit small) bonus but shouldn't be considered a long term plan to make you a millionaire. The next most effective way of making money is to take advantage of some Pinatas abilities to make certain produce. If you can get a Buzzlegum, Goobaa or a Moozipan then you can begin. Make them ready to make their produce by feeding them the right flower or by giving them the right accessories (Buzzlegum Keeper's Hat, Bonnet, Bell). This will make them ready to produce. Send them to the correct building and they will make their produce for you. Whilst this is a relatively effective method, it is quite time consuming and the additional building will take up a space that could be taken by a Pinata house. Plants are another way to make cash. If you have large enough numbers of plants that make a lot of money, then this tactic can give your funds a nice boost. Purchasing a few trees such as the Apple Tree (the Fir Tree is a favourite of mine) will help you a lot. Each tree will drop three fruits or so per day. For example, if you have eight Fir Trees, you will gain 24 Fir Cones per day. Each one sells for 75 chocolate coins. 24 x 75 = 1800. Not a huge amount of cash, but a very useful daily income. For more expensive fruits, such as the Acorn, eight Oak Trees will give you 5400 coins. That's a lot. By far the most effective way to earn cash is to romance them. Now, I wouldn't go as far to say that you should keep a pair of Pinatas that you can breed and continually sell their offspring. This will hinder your progress in the long run. My suggestion is that your breed Pinatas until you get the Master Romancer award for them, before selling all as well as their house. For the higher level Pinatas, this will earn you a small fortune. As well as merely selling your Pinatas, you can make them into variants beforehand, which will increase their value. However, it really depends on the variant requirements of the Pinata as to how beneficial this will be. If you only need to feed the Pinata a Buttercup, you will have a higher profit margin. If you have to feed it a jar of Honey, it probably isn't worth your while. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 4h) B a s i c G a m e p l a y , H i n t s & T i p s [GBHT] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' You don't have to feed Pinatas to keep them alive. Feeding them just helps with residencies, romancing and variants. It can also improve a Pinatas happiness. Even with your garden at full size, you shouldn't have more than five Pinata houses. There isn't enough space for many more and you don't want the garden to get cramped. Although you can use fencing in your garden to separate rival Pinatas, I really don't like this. It can really confuse things and to be honest I just can't be dealing with the hassle. Instead I prefer to keep rival Pinatas out of the garden (i.e. just have one type in the garden at a time). As soon as you have made a new Pinata a resident, you should try and make a variant of it as soon as possible. This is an easy way to add to your completion percentage. Romance Candies are available in abundance, so if a Pinata's romance requirments seem a little difficult, don't hesistate to use them. When you advance to the next Gardener Level, you should plant at least one of each of the new plants available to you. You may also want to experiment with any new garden decotarations etc. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [APNA] ( / | 5) A b o u t P i n a t a s | \ |_____________________________________________________| .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5a) A p p e a r a n c e s [APAP] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' There are certain criteria that need to be met to make a Pinata appear around the edges of your garden. These criteria differ for each Pinata. After a Pinata has appeared, you can see what you need to do to make the Pinata visit your garden. This usually means having a certain item, plant or Pinata in the garden. Sometimes the time of day is a factor too. Getting Pinatas to appear will add to your completion percentage. Sometimes you will see a Pinata wandering around the edges of the garden and it will labelled "Unknown Pinata". This is a higher level Pinata and cannot be attracted into the garden at this time. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5b) V i s i t [APVT] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' As with appearance, there are certain criteria that must be met for a Pinata to actually visit your garden. Getting Pinatas to visit your garden will add to your completion percentage. As soon as you have the Pinata in the garden, you can see how to make it a resident in the garden. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5c) R e s i d e n t [APRT] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' Once you have lured the Pinata into your garden, you need to set about making it a resident. Like appearances and visits, there are numerous requirements that need to be met before the Pinata takes residence. Sometimes this is merely having a certain item in the garden, but other times it needs to eat a certain plant, item or Pinata. Once these requirements have been met, the Pinata will make your garden it's home. This means that it will never leave your garden unless you sell it, it is lost in a fight or you send it to a party. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5d) R o m a n c e [APRM] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' Once you have the Pinata in your garden, you need to set about breeding. For this boys and girls you need two Pinatas. If you are wondering why this might be, then ask your dad. Anyway, you need to get another Pinata into the garden. You can either lure another one into the garden, the same as you did with the first, or you can get Gretchen to catch you another. Now that you have two of the same Pinata (you can't cross-breed, with one exception) you can get on with the sexy-time. There are yet more requirements that need to be met before the Pinatas are ready for the big moment. These are usually pretty similar to residence requirements. These requirements must be met for BOTH Pinatas. When romancing Pinatas you MUST have built a house for them beforehand. Each species of Pinata has their own house. Additionally, the Pinatas must be happy before they can be romanced. To make a Pinata happy, feed it something that it likes (see visit, residence and variant requirements). Happiness Candy can also help. Happiness Candy can be obtained by breaking open any Pinata (residents or otherwise). Once you have actually romanced your pair, they will have a baby! I know, total shocker. Actually, they don't just pop one out, in fact a Storkos will come and drop an egg outside your Pinatas house. For a while, your pair will tend this egg until it hatches. Once the egg has hatched, a baby Pinata will emerge. This is a "newborn Pinata". The Pinata will stay in this form for a while, before turning into a coccoon. When it emerges from this coccoon, it will be your regular sized Pinata. If you sell a Pinata whilst it is a "newborn Pinata", you will get considerably less cash than you would for a full grown one. If you think the romance requirements are going to be too difficult you can bypass them by feeding the Pinata a Romance Candy. As soon as your friend munches down one of these little pink sweets, they will be immediately ready to romance! To earn Romance Candy, you need to send Pinatas to parties. On their return, they will bring you between 1 and 4 candies. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5e) M a s t e r R o m a n c e r [APMR] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' This is pretty easy. Well maybe. Now that you have romanced your Pinatas, you need to keep doing it. Another twice should do it. Basically you need to romance your chosen species of Pinata three times to earn this award. Most of the time, this will signal the end of this species usefulness to you. That is unless you require them to be eaten by a higher level Pinata that is :) Anyway, if you reckon you don't need the Pinatas, you can sell them and their house, freeing up some space for another Pinata house. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5f) V a r i a n t s [APVR] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' Variants are ever so slightly different to your average Pinata. This is usually just a change in its colour. To create a variant, you need to feed your Pinata something. That something can be discovered as soon as you make a Pinata a resident. You only need one variant per species, but bear in mind that variants command a higher price when they are sold. If you can raise the value of a Pinata simply by feeding it a flower or fruit then you should do so. Money is everything my friends. The one exception to the one variant per species rule is the Flutterscotch. This Pinata has 4 variants; red, yellow, blue and green. To get these variants the Flutterscotch must eat a different flower: Red - Poppy Yellow - Buttercup Blue - Bluebell Green - Watercress If you romance two variant Pinatas, you might expect to get a variant baby. But you would be wrong. Sorry folks, if you do this all you will get is a regular non-variant Pinata. Nice try though. For the record, you CAN romance a variant with a normal Pinata. Again, these will produce a normal Pinata. Remember, creating variants adds to your completion percentage. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5g) E v o l u t i o n [APEV] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' This doesn't occur a lot in the game, but certain types of Pinata can be evolve. When evolution takes place, the Pinata will become a completely different species. The Pinatas that can evolve are: Sparrowmint - Candary Taffly - Reddhot Newtgat - Salamango Quackberry - Juicygoose Horstachio - Zumbug Lickatoad - Lackatoad Sour Shellybean - Shellybean Sour Sherbat - Sherbat Sour Crowla - Crowla Sour Profitamole - Profitamole Sour Macaraccoon - Macaraccoon Sour Cocoadile - Cocoadile Sour Mallowwolf - Mallowwolf Sour Bonboon - Bonboon You will notice that all of the Sour Pinatas can be (and need to be) evolved. See the Threats To Your Garden section above for more on this. Like everything else, you need to met certain requirements before a Pinata will evolve. With the some (the Sours) this just involves meeting residence requirements. However, sometimes a certain act needs to be performed or the Pinata needs to eat a certain item. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | 5h) P i n a t a C e n t r a l & P a r t i e s [APCP] | '---------------------------------------------------------------------------' Every now and again, a blue balloon will appear in the bottom left of the touchscreen. Touch this and you will open up a challenge from Pinata Central. Basically, you need to send the specified Pinatas to a party. Pinata Central normally asks for between 1 and 4 Pinatas. Sometimes these need to be a specific species, whilst other times it can be any Pinata. It's a good idea to try and complete these challenges as you will be rewarded with Romance Candies when the Pinatas return. As soon as you accept the challenge, you need to place the crate some where. Pick a free spot, near the Pinatas that you are packing may help. Select your Pinata and direct them to the crate. A balloon will appear above the Pinatas head, signalling that it is due to go to the party. Once you have done this to the correct number of Pinatas, the crate will be sent to the party. If you don't have the right number of the Pinatas when the challenge comes in, don't worry about it too much. Usually you have more than one day to get the Pinatas ready. You can easily produce an extra Pinata by romancing in that time. You could also consider buying one (or two) from Gretchen. It all depends if you think it is worth spending the cash to get some extra Romance Candies. I tend to accept the challenge and buy the Pinatas if I a little low on Romance Candies. However, if I've got a good number of candies already, I am more inclined to pass. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [USPA] ( / | 6) U s e f u l P i n a t a s | \ |_____________________________________________________| Whilst most Pinatas won't serve much of a purpose past getting all the awards for them, others will aid your progression through the game. BARKBARK If you equip a Barkbark with a Collar accessory and it will scare away Ruffians and stop them entering the garden. BUZZLEGUM Feed a Buzzlegum a Buttercup and it will be ready to produce Honey. Direct it to a Honey Hive to make a jar of Honey. CANDARY Equip a Candary with a Gas Mask accessory and direct it to a Mine. The Candary will usually head down there and come back with nothing. However, it will eventually bring out a Dragonache egg. CHEWNICORN If a Pinata is ill, direct Chewnicorn over to it. The Chewnicorn will heal the ill Pinata. CLUCKLES After Storkos has delivered an egg, send Cluckles across to sit on the egg. This will make it hatch quicker. COCOADILE Direct a Cocoadile to a plant that isn't fully grown. The Cocoadile will produce Cocoadile Tears which fertilize the plant. GOOBAA Feed a Goobaa a Watercress flower and it's fleece will be ready to shear. Direct it to the Shearing Shed to produce a ball of Wool. MACARACCOON Select a Macaraccoon and touch the icon next to the Tool Menu. This will send the Macaraccoon out on a search for candy. It will bring back a Happiness Candy, a Romance Candy or a Sour Candy. MALLOWOLF Mallowolfs do pretty much the same job as a Barkbark. If a Ruffian enters the garden, direct the Mallowolf to him and it will bark. This will scare the Ruffian off. MOOZIPAN Feed a Sunflower to a Moozipan and it will be ready to produce Milk. Direct it to the Milking Shed to make a bottle of Milk. TAFFLY Feed a Taffly a certain colour of fruit and it will produce a certain colour of fertilizer. See the Growing Plants, Trees and Vegetables section above for more on this. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKTH] ( / | 7) W a l k t h r o u g h | \ |_____________________________________________________| This is the walkthrough section of the FAQ (like you didn't know). I can't really give you an exact step-by-step guide through this game, because it is very non-linear. I have tried my best to give you a guideline that should hopefully take you through the game. However, you're own game may not play out exactly the same as mine. Anyway, moving on... As soon as you begin a new game, enter your name. After this you need to sign the deeds to your garden. The ground is 100% rubble and there are a lot of junk items lying around. Select the Dig icon from the Tool Menu then touch the ground that you would like to dig up. Once you have dug up 1% of the map, a Whirlm will appear and will soon become resident. Whilst you are waiting for the Whirlm, there are a couple of things that you should do. First of all, you need to remove all the junk from the garden. To do this, whack them with the shovel. Junk will often leave chocolate coins behind for you to collect. After you have cleared the junk, you need to dig up all of the rubble that currently makes up almost all of the terrain in the garden. You need to make the terrain to 100% dirt (or 99% if you missed a bit). Doing this will allow you to plant grass seeds and tidy up the garden. I would say that you can cover a good 80%-90% of the garden in grass, leaving a bit of dirt for Pinatas at like it, or using it as a vegetable patch. Whilst you are still at Level 1, Willy Builder will introduce himself. For more on him, see the Shops section above. As soon as you have a second Whirlm in the garden, you can ask Willy to build you a Whirlm house. When the construction is completed, smash the crate to reveal your Whirlm house. You can now romance your Whirlms. Being the most basic, common type of Pinata, you don't really have to do anything to meet their romance requirements. Make sure both Whirlms are awake, then drag one to the other. The Whirlm will then go into their new house to romance. Watch the romancing sequence, then Storkos will come and deliver an egg. At this point about 1.63% complete, you will move up to a Level 2 Gardener. Seedos will appear at Level 1 too. When he first comes into the garden, he will offer you a Carrot or a Turnip seed. Choose which ever one you want, it doesn't really matter. For more info on Seedos, see the Seedos section above. Anyway, you can now plant the seed in dirt to make it grow. Don't forget to water it often! _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKL2] ( / | 7b) G a r d e n e r L e v e l T w o | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w ? PINATAS: Bunnycomb Candary Mousemallow Sparrowmint Syrupent PLANTS : Carrot Turnip W a l k t h r o u g h In Level 2, you will meet Lottie, who runs Costolots. For pretty much anything you need to buy, you need to visit Costolots. For more on this, you can see the Shops section above. Costolots will make a fair few useful plants, vegetables and items. As soon as you can, plant a few Turnips, Carrots, Daisies and Buttercups. These will come in handy for attracting some new blood. Now that you are at Level 2, there are a few more Pinatas available to you. Most likely, the first new visitor will be the Syrupent. You might think that this is great, but really it causes a bit of a problem. The Syrupent will attack both Bunnycombs and Mousemallows, both of which will also be visting your garden at Level 2. You might find this shocking, but for the time being, when a Syrupent enters your garden, you need to smash it open with the shovel. You really don't need these bad boys getting in the way whilst you are trying to romance the Mousemallows and the Bunnycombs. There's plenty of time to romance the Syrupent later anyway. Before I totally move onto the new Pinatas, don't forget the Whirlms. You need to romance them three times to gain the Master Romancer award for the Whirlm. You can be doing this whilst working to attract the new Pinatas. As soon as you have the award, you will have 5 Whirlms in the garden. Feed one of them a Turnip and you will get a variant Whirlm. It is a good idea to keep Whirlms roaming around the garden and to keep romancing them, so that you have a few lying around. Sparrowmints need them to breed, as do Fudgehogs. Not only that, but they are an easy source of income. Just keep romancing them and selling them off. It's a cool 120 chocolate coins for each one. That's a nice profit at this stage. The Sparrowmint will need little coaxing into the garden. It requires 2 Whirlms to be resident, and as you already have that, you should be okay. Once it has visited, it will become resident after you have romanced the Whirlms twice. Job done. As soon as you have two Sparrowmints in the garden, then you can get them romancing. To do this, just have them munch down a Whirlm. Once your completion reaches about 6.25%, you will move onto Gardener Level 3. However, there are still Level 2 Pinatas that require romancing etc. This won't really take long to reach. If you make a Bunnycomb, a Mousemallow and a Sparrowmint resident, then romance two of the three of them, this will probably be enough to push you to Level 3. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKL3] ( / | 7c) G a r d e n e r L e v e l T h r e e | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w ? PINATAS: Badgesicle Buzzlegum Flutterscotch Blue Flutterscotch Green Flutterscotch Red Flutterscotch Yellow Flutterscotch Fudgehog Mothdrop Pretztail Reddhot Sour Shellybean Shellybean Squazzil Taffly PLANTS : Bluebell Blackberry Bush Tulip Apple Tree Thistle Pumpkin Poppy Hazel Tree Chilli W a l k t h r o u g h Again, at Level 3 you will make more Pinatas available. In fact there are a lot more Pinatas than you have had contact with before. However, remember that you need to keep on romancing the Level 2 Pinatas that you missed. The first thing that you should do, is to plant some new seeds. Plant a couple of every new seed available to you, except the Thistle seed. You really don't want these in your garden unless you have to. Pretty much everything else will help you attract some new Pinatas. Trees such as the Hazelnut Tree can be a pain in the backside to water but if you can successfully grow one, the Squazzil visit the garden (as long as you have no Twingersnaps resident). In addition to this, selling fruit and nuts will help you pick up some useful cash. For now you should definitely keep romancing your Whirlms and taking the profit from them. You also need to start romancing your other Pinatas such as the Sparrowmints, Bunnycombs and Mousemallows. Don't forget that you need to build their houses and meet all requirements before they can be romanced. If you need to know how to meet these requirements, click on the Pinata's information screen, or check the Pinata Guide further down this FAQ. In the case of the Bunnycombs and the Mousemallows, you should keep them hanging around after you have the Master Romancer award, as they will soon be prayed upon by other Pinatas. Once you have the Master Romancer award for the Sparrowmints, you will have 5 of them. You can't get the variant just yet, as you need a Waterlily flower. For now, sell three Sparrowmints and sell the house too. That's about all you need to do for now. You could potentially evolve a Sparrowmint into a Candary but to be honest that really isn't worthwhile for now. The Candary needs Yellow Flutterscotches to romance and you won't have them yet. For now just leave your Sparrowmints hanging around the garden. Some of the more basic new Pinatas can easily be attracted into the garden. Have 6 Buttercups growing in the garden and the Buzzlegum will become resident. Buy a Firebrand and a Mothdrop will become a resident when it is nighttime. Taffly's only need a couple of flowers to be present in the garden to appear, whilst Flutterscotches require 4 Daisies to become a resident. Pretztails are another new addition. However, these bad boys will be waiting to feast upon your Bunnycombs. The best thing that you can do is to quickly get the Master Romancer award for your Bunnycombs so it won't matter when the Pretztail starts eating them. It should be noted though, that you can begin to romance the Pretztails until Level 4. Another Pinata that you should leave for now is the Badgesicle. To make it a resident, you need a Newtgat, which won't appear until you reach Level 4. At Level 3, you will make your first encounter with a Sour Pinata. The Sour Shellybean will slope in sometime during this level. Fortunately, it is easy to deal with. Get it to eat an Apple seed (just drop it in front of it and eventually it will eat). Once it has eaten the seed, it will evolve into a regular Shellybean. In addition to this, you will gain a Sour Blocker, which will stop any more Sour Shellybeans coming to bother you. To attract another Shellybean, you need to plant a Thistle in the garden. You NEED to at least make one appear and let it visit the garden, as you won't have achieved this when you got your other Shellybean. Once you have done with the Thistle, you might as well keep a couple growing, as Mothdrops need to eat them to romance. However, don't have too many Thistles hanging around as most Pinatas don't like them. Once you reach 10% completion, the size of your garden will be increased. It is adviseable to work the land and destroy any junk items. Dig up the rubble and get some grass down. You can use this extra space to fit some more houses and plants in the garden. About Level 3, you will probably get your first request from Pinata Central. Try to meet their requirements so you can earn Romance Candy, which will make your romancing experience easier. Gretchen will make her introduction during Level 3. She is an incredibly useful character in this game. She can bring you any Pinata that you have previously had in the garden. For more on Gretchen see the Shops section above. Once you have attracted a Flutterscotch into the garden, you have the chance to romance a whole lot of Pinatas. The Flutterscotch also comes in Blue, Green, Red and Yellow. Attaining these should take a while, especially getting the Master Romancer award for them all. My advise would be to romance one colour at a time. This could take you over numerous levels, but it will mean that you won't have a garden jammed full of Flutterscotches. First of all work on getting the Master Romancer for the normal Flutterscotch. For the record, to get the other colours, you need to feed a normal Flutterscotch different colours of flower. Blue - Bluebell Green - Watercress Red - Poppy Yellow - Buttercup Once you get to around 14.5% completion, you will move onto Level 4. This should happen after you have attained about 28 Pinata awards. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKL4] ( / | 7d) G a r d e n e r L e v e l F o u r | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w ? PINATAS: Arocknid Lickatoad Jameleon Goobaa Raisant Sour Sherbat Sherbat Bispotti Newtgat Quackberry Cluckles PLANTS : Sunflower Waterlily Corn Watercress Poison Ivy W a l k t h r o u g h Welcome to Level 4! As soon as you reach this level, you will unlock an upgraded shovel head, which means you can now dig deep enough to have water in the garden. This means you can attract a lot of new Pinatas into the garden. You should do this straight away, as there are some Level 3 Pinatas that require the watery-type Pinatas to become resident or to romance. Go to the Tool Menu and select the shovel. You will now see the water icon. Now, dig down and make 10% of the terrain into water. This should be sufficient to attract the new Pinatas. In your newly created water-feature, you should plant some Waterlilies and some Watercress. Now before you get all caught up in new Pinatas, you should remember that there are a lot of Level 3 Pinatas that still require attracting and romancing. You should really concentrate on these. Keeping things in order will make sure you don't miss anything. Keep romancing the Flutterscotches. Once you have the Master Romancer award for the normal Flutterscotch, move onto romancing another colour. You won't need a complete separate house for each type of Flutterscotch, they can all use the normal Flutterscotch house. If it were me, I would move onto the Green Flutterscotch. Lackatoad like to eat these to romance, so having a few around won't hurt. You could move onto Yellow, as Candaries require these to romance. However, I usually just give usually pick one of these to give Romance Candies to (i.e. If you choose to breed Green Flutterscotches, then feed Romance Candies to the Candary, if you choose Yellow, then feed them to the Lackatoad). To evolve a Candary, feed a Buttercup to a Sparrowmint. In fact, you should keep romancing any Pinatas that you were busy with before. Even when you have the Master Romancer for Bunnycombs, you should keep the Pretztail out of the garden for now. It will require Quackberries to be able to romance and you won't have many (if any) of these in the garden at the moment. Arocknids and Raisants should also be kept out of the garden if you have Buzzlegums in there already. The Syrupent will want to eat Lickatoads so that it can romance, but you won't have many of these either, so you should keep the Syrupents at bay for another level yet. The same goes for the Badgesicle, as it requires the tastiness of a Newtgat, which again, will be in short supply. You may find it useful to build a Honey Hive for the Buzzlegums. Feed one a Buttercup and direct it to the Honey Hive to produce a jar of Honey. You can sell this for 250 coins, so it can be quite a good way of making money, whilst If you visit Cosolots, you can now buy the Long Grass seeds. This will come in handy for later. If you haven't already, I would buy the Tin Watering Can. You probably need an upgrade, but forget about the expensive Gold Watering Can. Later in Level 4, a Sprinkling will become available to buy from the shop. This baby is one of the most useful items (or people?) on Pinata Island. For the bargain price of 400 chocolate coins, the Sprinkling will water your plants during the day. Yay for laziness! Bart will turn up at Level 4. For more info on him, see the Shops section above. Basically he will help you produce new types of food for Pinatas, which will help you attract and romance them. Ivor the beggar makes his debut sometime around now. You need to meet his requirements, a lot like you would meet a Pinatas. His first request is for 1000 chocolate coins. Now, you may think this is a lot to give out to a bum, but trust me, you will be rewarded. The Fudgehog will probably make it's appearance early in Level 4. It will come on the fourth night after you took over the garden. Technically you could still be at Level 3 when this happens, it all just depends how fast you move. Anyway, you should have a couple of Thistles in the garden to make it visit. You can use up your supply of Whirlms when making two Fudgehogs resident and after that you should sell the house and any you have left. The Whirlm won't play a major part in proceedings from now on. You should note, that you can't romance the Fudgehog until Level 5, so just keep this bad boy hanging around for now. Bispotti is another relatively simple Pinata to bring into the garden. All you need is five Poppies and for it to eat three. However, to romance you will require a Mushroom. This doesn't come in until Level 5, but get the Bispotti in ready for it. If you have a Taffly or two to spare, you could evolve them into a Reddhott. To do this, make a Taffly fly through a Firebrand and it will catch fire. Put it out using the watering can and it will evolve into a Reddhott. This is a completely different species and will require romancing, the same as any other. Reddhotts do require rotten Chillis for their romance requirements to be met. Personally, I always end up forgetting about the Chillis and they rot away, or some such episode. If you wish, you can leave the Chillis out until they go rotten, but I usually use Romance Candy to get Reddhotts in the mood. As for the rest of your Tafflies (after you have the Master Romancer award) you should turn them into variants by feeding them Poison Ivy. With these variants, you can make a couple Lickatoads into residents. The Sour Sherbat will appear at Level 4 (usually after you have tamed a Sour Shellybean). To make it evolve into the peace-loving Sherbat, you need to get it to eat a Jack O'Lantern. To get one of those, get Bart to transform a Pumpkin. If you can't get one of these right now, then smash the Sherbat into pieces. Once you tame the Sour, you will gain another Sour Blocker. Don't forget you will need to entice a Sherbat into the garden in the normal way too. For this, you need your first Sherbat to be resident, as well as three Mothdrops. Once you hit 25% completion, you will get to Gardener Level 5. About 58 Pinata awards will get you to this point. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKL5] ( / | 7e) G a r d e n e r L e v e l F i v e | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w PINATAS: Buzzenge Chippopotamus Crowla Doenut Juicygoose Moozipan Parmadillo Rashberry Salamango Sour Crowla Twingersnap PLANTS : Gooseberry Bush Toadstool Bullrush Bird of Paradise Fir Tree Venus Pinata Trap Banana Tree W a l k t h r o u g h Well done, you made it to Level 5! As usual there are quite a few new Pinatas unlocked. And as usual, you probably won't be getting a chance to romance them yet. Level 5 is a pretty long one. You need to get to 40% game completion before you reach Level 6. Lots of work to do! There are a few things that you should do initially. First of all, you should plant one of every new seed that you have. Once you have a Gooseberry, get Bart to transform it into a Gooseberry Fool. Feed the Gooseberry Fool to a Candary to get the variant, before selling it off. You don't need Candaries in the garden for a long time now. It could be said that Chippopotamus needs a variant Candary in the garden so that it can romance. I say, forget that because the Chippopotamus will be eating Romance Candies anyway. Now, you need to temporarily increase the amount of water in your garden to 40%. This might seem like a lot, but it is only until you have a Chippopotamus or two in the garden. You might find it a little easier if you wait until after the garden size increase at this level. Once you have two in their (by either attracting or buying a second), make sure you have a Chippopotamus house in the garden. Now, keep feeding the Chippopotamus Romance Candies until you get the Master Romancer award. Meeting the Chippopotamus' romance requirements the normal way is way too much of a pain in the backside. Sure you could have the Candary Master Romancer award, the variant Candary and the Bird of Paradise flowers, but getting 50% of the map knee deep in water is way too much hassle for me. As soon as you have made the Chippopotamus a resident, you can reduce the amount of water in the garden down to 20% or so. At some point in this level, you should get the Master Romancer award for Lickatoads and Newtgat. Once you have a these, you should continue breeding them a little. Now that you have a few Lickatoads, you can get a couple of Syrupents into the garden and romance them. You can introduce a couple of Bagesicles into the garden by letting them eat Newtgats. However, you should avoid having Badgesicles and Syrupents in the garden together. They just don't get on. If you feed a Chilli to a Newtgat, it will evolve into a Salamango. This is a completely different species that need to romance, the same as any other. Make sure you evolve a couple of these bad boys and get them lovin'. When the Sour Crowla appears, you need to be ready for it. Have a Birdbath in the garden and that will meet one of its resident requirements. Now all you need to do is get it to eat a bottle of Medicine and it will be tamed. If you need Medicine and it's not available at Costolots, you can get Bart to make some from Honey. After the Crowla is tamed, you will earn the Sour Blocker. If you feel like romancing a Crowla, you should feed it Romance Candy. Otherwise you will be forking out a fortune on a couple of Shellybeans every time you want them to romance. It's a good idea to buy a Moozipan sometime at Level 5. If you feed a Moozipan a Sunflower, then it will be ready to milk. Direct it to a Milking Shed and it will produce your first bottle of Milk! Fudgehogs require Milk to romance, so you can get on with breeding those bad boys. Whilst the Moozipan is hanging around, you might as well get another and romance these too. You will require a Banana Split to romance Moozipans, so get a Banana Tree planted quick sharp. It will also require tweleve Daisies or Buttercups. This can be a bit of a pain, especially if you have a lot of plants in the garden already. Usually it will push the plant limit before you have enough. Usually I prefer to just use Romance Candies on Moozipans, but it is entirely up to you. If you get Bart to work on the Milk, he will transform it into a triangle of Cheese. Moozipans can be very irritating when they are trying to romance. For some reason they hate actually going into their house. This in turn will make them unhappy. This has me pulling my hair out all the time. You should try and romance them when they are stood right next to their house. Ivor will next roll out at this level. This time he needs some produce (for what ever reason). He will require a Sandwich, a Carrot Cake and a bottle of Milk. You can gain these by getting Bart to transform the first two from a loaf of Bread and a Carrot. Milk comes from the Moozipan (see above). If you have already had one of these items, you can buy them from Costolots. It's possible that Ivor will appear again later in this level, but he could also return at Level 6. He will require a Jack O'Lantern and a ball of Wool. To get the Wool, you need to feed a Goobaa a Watercress flower, then direct it to the Shearing Shed. Once these requirements have been met, Ivor will not return until Level 6, where he will open his own shop inside Costolots. If you have done with breeding the Buzzlegums (hopefully you will by this point) you should introduce Rasiants into the garden. Raisants aren't too difficult to live with. They will be attracted into the garden by a fruit tree and any three kinds of fruit. It will be persuaded to romance by a jar of Honey. Job done. By the time you have gained the Master Romancer award for Raisants, you can bring Arocknids into the garden. Arocknids will come into the garden if you have four Raisants resident. If you have the Quackberry Master Romancer award you should bring in a Pretztail or two and you can let them feast on the Quackberries so that they could romance. If you are getting rid of the Quackberries, then you should pick up a couple of Juicygeese. To get these, feed a Gooseberry to a Quackberry. You won't be able to romance these until Level 6, but you can have them in the garden ready. There are various other Pinatas, that I have not yet mentioned. You can bring these in as you like, you may not even need to at this level. The Buzzenge will require 5 Candaries to be resident in the garden. You probably won't have these in the garden any more, so unless you want to fork out for 5 new ones, or breed them, best give the Buzzenge a miss for the moment. The Parmadillo is another Pinata that I generally leave until later on. It will require both Raisants and Arocknids to be present in the garden. If you can make one a resident now, then great. Romance Candies would be the best way to go with them anyway. Twingersnaps are created from Syrupents. First of all, romance two Syrupents. Now, when the egg comes, tap it with the end of your shovel until a mist is emitted from it. When the egg hatches, out will pop a Twingersnap. You can romance these only when you have a few variant Squazzils (or enough Romance Candies) to throw around. Personally at this point in proceedings, I only have a single Squazzil resident, so I'm inclined to wait until Level 6 to romance these guys. Doenuts are a different proposition. At this point when I played the game, I found that I didn't need to bring Doenuts in on this level, but I certainly wouldn't discourage it. Making one resident is really easy. Just get it to eat 6 Blackberries or 6 Gooseberries and it will come to live in your garden! Romacing is just as easy, just a couple of flowers away! Basically all you need to do is keep romancing your chosen Pinatas and keep churning out the variants for them. Eventually you should reach the promised land of 40% completion (well 39.99%). At this point, you will move onto the gruelling Level 6. At the end of Level 5, you will need about 116 Pinata awards. Here is a quick update of what I had at this point. This is because you can't always plan things perfectly in this game, so you need to rub along the best that you can. The walkthrough section tries to outline the best way to make your way through the game. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKL6] ( / | 7f) G a r d e n e r L e v e l S i x | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w ? PINATAS: Barkbark Chewnicorn Cinnamonkey Horstachio Jeli Kittyfloss Sour Profitamole Ponocky Profitamole Pudgeon Zumbug PLANTS : Orchid Gem Tree Snapdragon Monkeynut Tree W a l k t h r o u g h Well done, for making it through the long Level 5. Many people playing this game for the first time come unstuck at Level 6, but all you need to remember is that you need to romance and make variants of all the Pinatas that you possible can. It's a simple game really. Level 6 contains the most elusive and rare Pinata; the Jeli. For a detailed look of how to nab yourself one, see the Attracting a Jeli chapter below. As usual, there are more Pinatas to be found now that you moved up a level. Like on every level, you should try and fill in the blanks of your Pinata awards, as well as trying to bring new Pinatas into the garden. I usually spend a lot of time romancing Pinatas from the previous levels here. In addition to attracting Pinatas, Gretchen has a host of new Pinata Pets that you can buy from her. The first one that you should get is a Barkbark. Fit one of these bad boys with a Collar accessory and he will keep those pesky Ruffians out of the garden. You can also grab a Ponocky from Gretchen. These will attract Horstachios into the garden. Just buy one and let it roam around. Usually the Horstachio will fight with the Ponocky, but this isn't a residential requirement. However, eating eight Apples is a residential requirment, so make sure you have an Apple Tree (or buy some from Costolots). Romancing the Horstachios is easy. Just a a Toffee Apple and a few Carrots and they are ready. If you do manage to get a Horstachio or two into the garden, you should avoid evolving one into a Zumbug for now. Like the Ponockies, Zumbugs will fight with Horstachios. Ideally, you should wait until you have the Horstachio Master Romancer award, then evolve two into Zumbugs. You probably won't have time to get around to this until Level 7 anyway. When the Sour Profitamole lumbers in, you need to tame him (you get the idea with the sours by now right?). It will require two Mushrooms to be in the garden. To get Mushrooms, grow a couple of Toadstools and get Bart to transform them. It will also need to eat a Red Flutterscotch. If you are proceeding with the Flutterscotch breeding programme like I suggested, you should at least have one or two normal Flutterscotches kicking around. Get one to eat a Poppy and poof! A Red Flutterscotch. Don't forget that you will have to make another Profitamole visit the garden to get the Pinata award for it. To do this, keep the Profitamole in the garden. You will also need four Arocknids in the garden, so if you are currently romancing them, this should be easy. If not, it's probably best if you just buy four from Gretchen, then sell them once you have completed the task. As for attracting some new Pinatas, you will have to perform a little gardening. You should plant three Monkeynut Trees so that Cinnamonkies will come into the garden. Plant a Gem Tree to attract a Chewnicorn or two. This could also help you bring in a Jeli too. You can buy a Gem Tree seed from Ivor's shop. For more info on Ivor, check out the Level 5 walkthrough, or the Shops section above. Remember though, the Chewnicorn requires you to have the Horstachio Master Romancer award before it will even visit. Once you reach 50% completion, you will move onto Level 7. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKL7] ( / | 7g) G a r d e n e r L e v e l S e v e n | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w ? PINATAS: Sweetooth Chocstrich Sour Macaraccoon Macaraccoon Hootyfruity Dragumfly W a l k t h r o u g h Wow, at Level 7 you're getting deep into the game. There are a lot fewer new Pinatas this time. Never mind, if you're anything like me, you won't have touched many of the Level 6 yet. If you didn't pick up the Jeli at Level 6, your best chance of grabbing it has passed. It is possible to get this bad boy at later levels, but it appears most often at Level 6. See the Attracting a Jeli chapter below. I'd guess that you didn't have time to get the Zumbug at the last level either. To get one, all you need to do is feed a Blackberry to a Horstachio. Remember though, you should only do this if you don't have a Horstachio, a Ponocky or a Chewnicorn in the garden. All of these Pinatas will fight with each other and are much better kept apart. Should you meet the Sour Macaraccoon at this level you can easily make it a resident by allowing it to eat a Cluckles. Buy a Cluckles from Gretchen and let the Sour munch down on it. As usual, this will also earn you a Sour Blocker. To get another Macaraccoon, you need to have 5 Syrupent family members in the garden. This is usually a lot more viable at Level 8, where you will be romancing Fourheads. As for romancing, the only difficulty is that it is required to eat an Arocknid. You can either buy the Arocknids to eat, or just use Romance Candy. Either way, I like to keep at least one Macaraccoon in the garden, so that it can go in search of Romance Candy. To get the Dragumfly to become a resident, you need twelve Bushrushes in the garden, as well as allowing it to eat a Reddhott. Once you manage to get one to become a resident, you should move onto the romancing. It needs to eat a Raisant and a Buzzlegum (as well as a Snapdragon) to be ready to romance. Getting hold of these can be pretty expensive at this stage of the game, so I would advise using Romance Candy here. Having said this though, Chocstriches require five Raisants to even visit the garden, so you may wish to merely buy some Buzzlegums for the Dragumflies too. Usually I just use the Romance Candy on the Dragumfly. As for the Chocstrich, I allow it to eat all the Raisants that are in the garden, to become resident. The Hootyfruity is very easy to attract into the garden. Just have a Mousemallow roaming around and wait for night to come. You need five in total to make it visit and three to make it a resident, but this shouldn't be a problem for you. To romance it you need a Sherbat and a Squazzil. Either buy these or use Romance Candy. You should have plenty of cash to throw around at this point, so I am more inclined to purchase them from Gretchen. Once you reach 65%, you will move onto Level 8. For this you will require roughly 210 Pinata awards to reach Level 8. Here is an update on the Pinata awards that I had at this point. If you can be bothered to look through this, you can get an idea of where you should be at this point. In fact there are more than were made available at Level 7. I'm guessing at this time, there are only a small number of Pinatas that you don't have all the Pinata awards for. You should tie up any awards that you can manage now, before moving onto the new Pinatas. Level 8 is by far the shortest in terms of percentage. You only have to move from 65% completion to 70% completion before you reach Level 9. To be honest, you don't really have much time to romance new Pinatas etc., but I've tried to guide you through a few of them here. Swananas are the first Pinata that you should concentrate on. Making it visit is easy. You should have 20% water terrain as well as a garden value of at least 20,000 chocolate coins. This is a pretty low value, but if you need to boost it up, get some high level Pinatas in there and spend some cash on items and garden decorations. The residental requirement of eating two Sandwiches and have 25% water terrain should easily be met. However, to romance the Swanana, you need 30% water terrain, so try and clear some space. Make sure you purchase a Swan Fountain from Costolots. Aside from gaining the Pinata awards for the Swanana, breeding it has a couple of other uses. First of all, the Sour Cocoadile will need to eat a couple of these to become a resident. More importantly, you need to cross- breed a Swanana and a Rashberry to gain a Pigxie. To get the Pigxie, you need to have both a Swanana and a Rashberry in the garden. You need to have met all romance requirements for both of them, including having a correct Pinata houses for each. Additionally, you need to buy a Mystery House from Willy. The Mystery House is listed with the rest of the Pinata houses and not with special buildings such as the Mine and the Honey Hives etc. Once you are ready to romance the Rashberry and the Swanana, they will head off into the Mystery House, then the Storkos will bring an egg, the same as ever. When the egg hatches, you will have a Pigxie! At Level 8, the Oak Tree becomes available. Once this is fully grown, it will produce Acorns, which means you can finally make a variant Cluckles. The Lackatoad is a pretty simple Pinata to evolve. Get a Lickatoad and feed it a Nightshade Berry. The Lickatoad will look like it is choking. Give it a whack with the shovel and it will evolve into a Lackatoad. The Lackatoad will require four Arocknids to be resident in the garden before it will romance. It doesn't need to eat them, they just need to be resident. Hopefully this shouldn't cause you too much trouble. If you followed what I mentioned earlier, you should have (or be able to buy) a Fourheads. If you didn't you can find info on how to get one in the Pinata Guide further down this FAQ. Anyway, the Fourheads is required to eat a variant Lackatoad before it can romance. You can follow this, but if you plan to romance the Lacktoads at the same time as Fourheads (or even romance the Fourheads first) you can use Romance Candy. I usually go for the Fourheads before or at the same time, so I find Romance Candy to be the best option. After a very short while, you will reach 70% and move onto Level 9. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WKL9] ( / | 7i) G a r d e n e r L e v e l N i n e | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w ? PINATAS: Dragonache Sour Mallowolf Mallowolf Parrybo Eaglair W a l k t h r o u g h There are only five new Pinatas at Level 9, but don't forget there WILL be some that you missed at Level 8, so there is plenty to go at. First of all, I will take you through some of the Level 8 Pinatas that you may have missed. The Limeoceros is an easy one. You should plant five Orchids and five Tulips. You should also have 25% long grass terrain. When you see a Limeoceros appear at the edge of the garden, you should buy five Chillis and place them any where in the garden. This will entice the Limeoceros into visiting the garden. To make the Limeoceros a resident, you just need to get it to eat the Orchids, the Tulips and the Chillis. To romance, you need to have a Bispotti in the garden, you need the Bispotti Master Romancer award and you need to get it to eat 4 Turnips. Eaaaasy. As soon as you see a Fizzlybear around the edges of the garden, you should buy (or produce) twelve Fir Cones and three jars of Honey. This will make it visit the garden. To make it become a resident, it needs to eat eight Fir Cones and two jars of Honey. Finally, to make it romance, you should either buy enough Raisants to keep it happy, or you should use Romance Candy. The main attraction of Level 9, is the Dragonache. To get this bad boy, you first need to get Willy to build you a Mine. Now, make sure you have a Candary and equip it with the Gas Mask accessory. You can now direct the Candary down the Mine. Usually it will return with nothing, but eventually it will bring out a Dragonache egg. For more info on the Dragonache, see the Pinata Guide further down this FAQ. The Parrybo is a very easy take at Level 9. To make it visit, all you need is a Bird of Paradise flower growing in the garden. For it to become a resident, you need to have a Banana Tree growing in the garden and the Parrybo needs to have eaten 10 Bananas. You can either feed it Bananas from the tree, or buy them from Costolots. The romance requirements are similarly easy, just feed it some assorted seeds and give it an Eyepatch accessory. The Sour Mallowolf is pretty easy to tame, as long as you have a Pigxie that it can prey on. If you haven't then say what I have to say about it in the previous chapter or in the Pinata Guide. Once you have tamed the Sour, you need to attract another Mallowolf. To do this, you need six Rashberries in the garden, so pay Gretchen a visit. Once the Mallowolf is in the garden, it needs to eat three of the Rasheberries to become a resident. To get the Mallowolves to romance, buy a couple of Goobaas and Bunnycombs from Gretchen. Job done. I would guess by this point you should have advanced to Level 10, but if not then you should work on making an Eaglair a resident. It will visit the garden if you have five different species of Pinata as resident. To make it reside in your garden, it need it to eat four Buzzenges (Gretchen again) as well as having an Oak Tree in the garden. To romance, either feed it three Sweetooths (Sweeteeth?) or use the Romance Candy. If this still isn't enough to propel you into Level 10, then work on any Pinatas that you don't have all the awards for. When you reach 80% completion, you will reach Level 10. _____________ _____________ \ /| |\ / ) || [WK10] ( / | 7j) G a r d e n e r L e v e l T e n | \ |_____________________________________________________| W h a t ' s N e w ? PINATAS: Elephanilla Roario Tigermisu Sour Bonboon Bonboon Galagoogoo W a l k t h r o u g h Now that you are at Level 10, you pretty much have free reign to do what ever you want. The Level 10 Pinatas are pretty difficult to attract into the garden (well, most of them). You don't really have a percentage to aim for here (other than the 100%) so there's no rush really, as you need to have done everything with every Pinata in the game to achieve it. Whilst you are busy with the final few Pinatas, you should try and clean up any others that you missed at earlier levels. To be honest, you shouldn't be missing too many for you to have reached this point. Hopefully you will either have a lot of cash or a lot of Romance Candies to help you finish the game without too much trouble. Of all the new Pinatas, the Roario must be the easist to lure into the garden. To get it to visit, you need to have five Doenuts and five Zumbugs resident in the garden, as well as the garden value being above 40,000 chocolate coins. To increase your garden value, all you need to do is spend a fortune on stuff from Costlots and have lots of high level Pinatas in the garden. For the Roario to stay, it needs to eat a Doenut and a Zumbug, as well as a variant of each. The garden value needs to be 50,000 chocolate coins. To get Roarios to romance, just give it a Crown accessory and have the garden be worth 60,000 chocolate coins or more. When the Sour Bonboon appears, put either a Syrupent or a Twingersnap in the garden. The Sour will eat up the Syrupent and become tame. Now that you have a Bonboon, you need to have a Monkeynut Tree and a Banana Tree growing in the garden. Feed it seven Bananas and seven Monkeynuts and it will become resident. Finally buy three Jameleons to make a Bonboon ready for romance. It's nice and easy and you should be able to afford it by this point. As soon as you make a Bonboon a resident, you will get the final Sour Blocker. This will allow you to bring a Galagoogoo into the garden. To make it visit you just need to have a Moon-on-a-Stick in the garden. Making it resident is a synch; feed it a couple of Mothdrops and four Tulips. Romancing is just as easy. Just have a Chewnicorn reside in the garden and feed tehe Galagoogoo four Orchid flowers. The Elephanilla can be troublesome. It's requirements are especially difficult, but meeting them can be hard. First of all, make sure you don't have a Mousemallow in the garden, otherwise the Elephanilla won't appear. Next, you need to have six Blackberries, six ears of Corn, six Monkeynuts and six Gooseberries in the garden to allow it to visit. The Elephanilla will become resident once it eats four of each of these. You may find it hard to make it eat the food. If you place the food down too close to the Elephanilla, it seems that it can't "see" it. Place it a small distance in front, so that it's trunk could reach it. To make the Elephanilla romance, it needs to eat two Bananas, two Acorns, two Chillis and two Pumpkins. This is a reletively easy task as none of these fruits and vegetables are hard to come across. The Tigermisu will most probably one of the last (if not the last) Pinata that you bring into the garden. You need to have three Limeoceroses and three Elephanillas resident in the garden before it will visit. It then needs to eat one of each of these to become a resident. To romance it needs to eat a Chippopotamus and an Eaglair. However, if this you have enough Romance Candy, don't make it harder than you need to. VARIANT : Has eaten a Bluebell flower. BASE VALUE: 1500 P i g x i e EVOLVE : Not technically an evolution, but I don't really know how else to describe it. You need to cross-breed a Rashberry and a Swanana. To do this, you need to meet the romance requirements of a Rashberry and a Swanana, including building a house for both. You also need to build the Mystery House, which can be found amongst the other Pinata houses (it has a picture of a Pigxie on it). Once all these requirements have been met, you can romance the Rashberry and the Swanana and they will enter the Mystery House for sexy-time. When the egg is delivered and hatches, out will pop a Pigxie. ROMANCE : Has eaten 2 Bullrush heads. Has eaten 2 Acorns. The garden is worth 10,000 chocolate coins or more. Lots of times, it will return to the surface with nothing, but eventually it will bring up a Dragonache egg. Have a Cluckles sit on the egg to hatch it. EVOLVE : When the Dragonache comes out, it will be in it's infant form. Although allowing it to evolve into it's adult form won't add to your completion percentage, it is worth the hassle. Has eaten a bottle of Milk. Has eaten a Snapdragon flower. Has eaten a Dragumfly. Has eaten a Reddhott. Has eaten a Salamango. VARIANT : Not a category that you will contribute to your final percentage, but there are actually three types of Dragonache. If you allow the egg to hatch on grass, the Dragonache will be green, if the egg hatches on dirt, then it will be brown. You can also get a blue one. Move the egg onto water before it hatches and it will come out blue. ABILITY : Select the Dragonache and you will see two icons next to the Tool Menu. One has an egg on it. This will turn the Dragonache back into the egg, thus allowing you to change it's colour if you want. The second icon has an arrow on it. Select this and the Dragonache will leave your garden temporarily. To bring it back, visit Gretchen and select "Fetch Dragonache". Hopefully this section will help you avoid such a scenario. When I first started playing this game, I noticed a lot of frustrated people complaining about the Jeli. So I read what ever useful tips people could give and applied them to my game and BANG! There was a Jeli in the middle of my garden. Here are my suggestions on making a Jeli appear: You are level 6 gardener. You are much more likely to encounter a Jeli at level 6. There have been reports of appearances at higher levels, but these are rare. For the folks who are stuck on 99%, I would suggest opening another file and trying to catch a Jeli there, before sending it to your main file. It is night time (this is a must). If you have any lights in the garden (e.g. Firebrand) then make sure they are turned off. You should have a lot of fir trees in the garden (about 8 or so). Jelis apparently like the cold, so I suppose fir trees can help. Try a Gem Tree or two. I would suggest that the terrain and the Pinatas in your garden make very little difference to the Jeli. I have had so many e-mails detailing the different combinations of terrain that people used. For this reason I think that you can discount terrain as major factor in attracting the Jeli. The same goes for the Pinatas that you have as resident. Unlike most other Pinatas, you won't get an alert when the Jeli enters your garden. This means that you need to keep your eyes open at night. As soon as you find one mooching around, smack him over the head with your shovel. As far as I know, you can only get one Jeli per cartridge. Kinda like the Manaphy in Pokemon Ranger. That means if you bought this game second-hand, there is every possibility that you will never get a Jeli. Even if you start a new file, you will only get one. You can't buy a second Jeli from Gretchen. To get a second you can either copy your file, then send it to your main file, or you can trade one via local wireless with a friend.
