Introduction =============== Star Fox Command is the first handheld Star Fox and also the first Star Fox for the Nintendo DS. This game was released in North America on August 28th, 2006 and in Japan on August 3rd, 2006. This Star Fox game has compatibility with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, supporting up to 4-player dogfights, and random battles at will. The Story Prologue: Years ago, a scientist named Dr. Andross became obsessed with controlling the Lylat System. He launched wave after wave of attack fighters from the remote planet of Venom and ordered them to strike Planet Corneria -- the heart of the Lylat System. However, four brave pilots who made up a squadron known as Star Fox finally put an end to the doctor's mad ambitions. Andross himself was defeated by the leader of Star Fox; a brilliant pilot named Fox McCloud. In the time that followed, Venom became known as a quarantine planet. Due to that reputation -- and the frequent patrols carried out by members of the Cornerian military -- it has been years since anybody set foot on the planet's surface. But after a period of quiet, Venom struck back with devastating attacks on the Lylat system. Any and all attempts at resistance were brushed aside, and soon all cities came under the grip of this new, terrifying enemy. The occupiers were known as the Anglars, and operated under the control of the Anglar Emperor. Their headquarters were located in the toxic Venom Sea, a vast ocean so inhospitable that it was believed no living thing could survive there. The members of Star Fox, the heroic and famous squadron that had come to Lylat's aid in her hour of need, had disbanded. Each pilot was living a new life, and it would prove a difficult task to bring the former team members back together. Fox McCloud, the team's leader, was wandering the galaxy with his friend ROB, a navigation robot that he inherited after his father's passing. Fox used this time to tie up a few loose ends and also ponder the course his life had taken. The Cornerian military hero, General Pepper fell ill, and could no longer lead as he once did. He recommended that Peppy Hare, Star Fox team member and father figure to Fox, be promoted and given command of all Cornerian forces. Brash pilot Falco Lombardi lived as a loner. He drifted from job to job, searching for the same thrill he felt as a member of Star Fox. But his existance was mostly an empty one...something that annoyed him more than he would admit. The technical brains behind the team, and Fox's closest friend, was the good- natured Slippy Toad. Slippy met and fell in love with a girl named Amanda, and decided to leave the world of flying and start a new life with his beloved fiancee. Star Wolf, the true rivals of Star Fox, continued to be involved in dirty dealings. Their work soon caught the attention of the Cornerian military, who put a massive bounty on their heads. And finally, Krystal. The lone female of the group, she had fought beside Fox and fell in love with him -- much against her better judgment and professional concern. Her love was returned, however, and the two promised to remain together always. But Fox was quite wary of the danger that haunted pilots in the elite Star Fox squadron, and he eventually forced Krystal to leave the team. Heartbroken and ashamed, she fled from Fox and vanished soon after. No one knows what became of her... Now, the past has come to haunt them all. Unwilling or unable to face his former team, Fox has chosen to take on the entire Anglar armada by himself. Can he do it? Will the team put aside their differences and reunite? All Lylat waits for the answers... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =========== b. Basic Strategy and Tips ========================== --------- MAP MODE: --------- The main point of the single-player campaign is to collect all of the enemy cores in a stage. You must clear enemy groups or shoot them down with missles from the Great Fox and destroy all of the enemy motherships on the Map Screen. The Map Screen will also show bonus items up for grabs, and they are usually time capsules or missles, making the stage a bit easier. One quick way of clearing stages is to locate the largest squadron of enemies, usually 4 or 5 dots, and take them down with a missile. It saves time, health, and more importantly, you will often grab a ton of cores from them. Clear as much fog as you can on fog-of-war missions, and try suspicious areas to uncover bases, enemies, or bonus items. Your own squadron can be directed to their destination by tapping them and drawing paths for them. If an enemy crosses your path, you'll have to engage that enemy squadron. Missiles from enemy bases will occasionally be launched, and you MUST intercept them and destroy them before they hit the Great Fox. If you fail to destroy a missile or an enemy squadron, they will move an additional distance closer to the Great Fox, so repeated failures are not an option. Your ships can move a certain distance depending on its fuel meter when you draw their paths. Friendly bases, which are white marks on the map, can boost a ship's fuel meter considerably, allowing it to cover greater distances. Use this well to grab any power-ups or to quickly intercept enemy bases or squadrons. Power-ups are scattered everywhere, and some, like the Supply Rings, may not be too terribly important, but it's a good idea to pick these up, especially the fuel cells and missiles. Enemies are red dots on the map, and can be made up of many different enemy types, depending on the level. They will always target the Great Fox, so they must be destroyed before they can get to the Great Fox. There are little >> marks to represent how fast they can move, > being the slowest, >> being a little faster, and >>> being very fast and difficult to watch out for. Red striped areas on the map indicate no-fly zones, so you can't fly over them. However, enemy missiles CAN pass over these zones, so be prepared to encounter missiles as they go over these zones. Missiles can't be shot down by the Great Fox's missiles, you have to take them out manually. When you encounter enemies, select their panels and get ready to destroy them. Usually the main type of enemy you see when you encounter a squadron is the type that contains cores, and by collecting all of the cores from them, the squadron is defeated and you earn extra time from the amount of enemies shot down. If EVERY single enemy is shot down, you will earn a PERFECT and earn an extra missile for the Great Fox. Keep in mind, that when you shoot down enemies with the Great Fox, you DON'T gain any time or items, so use those missiles wisely. ------------------------- Motherships/Missile Bases ------------------------- These are the red colored bases on the map. If a ship hits the mothership base, it will stop its path and engage it. Mothership encounters are a little different than normal encounters. The stage does not end when you collect the cores from the main enemies. Instead, after clearing out the enemies and taking the cores, you will have to go through a series of beacons which look like this: _______________________ | | | | | | | | | + | | | | | | | |_______________________| (excuse the poor ASCII) ...And then do a rolling attack into the mothership to destroy it. If you miss a beacon, or don't roll into the mothership, you will automatically die, so don't mess up! As an added bonus, if you fly directly through the + in a beacon, you will earn an extra second for the time limit. Bases with missile icons next to them, signal that they are going to launch a missile in the next turn if not taken care of. You can also tap the base on the map to check how many cores they have, and how many turns they have before they launch another missile. -------- Missiles -------- To destroy missiles, you have to go through the beacons, similar to the mothership levels, and shoot it down with your lasers. Do it quick, because the more beacons you go through, the faster you go, and the harder it is to go through the beacons. Characters with lock-on can destroy the missile with a full lock-on. If you fail to destroy the missile, it will move closer to the Great Fox and eventually destroy it, ending in a mission failure. These CANNOT be shot down by the Great Fox's missiles and can pass through no-fly zones. ------ Bosses ------ When certain stages are cleared, a boss will challenge you, signified by a warning. The boss must be defeated to clear the stage and you can use any available pilots to defeat it. R.O.B. will often point out its weak points during the battle, so be sure to exploit them in order to win. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================= e. Mission Walkthroughs ======================= e)i. Training - Controlling the Fighter Simply fly through the 25 rings placed in a curve pattern. You can use this to practice your flying, steering, speed boosts and brakes. R.O.B. will teach you the basics of flying throughout the course of this practice mission. e)ii. Training - Combat Techniques You have to destroy 30 Anglar ships and collect the cores they leave behind. They can be taken down with one shot, so use this mission as practice for lock-ons and dropping bombs strategically. In order to pick up the enemy cores easier, you can barrel roll and they will be guided toward your ship. e)iii. Training - Barrel Rolls You must destroy the 5 enemy towers and collect their cores. They will shoot at you, so rub the stylus back and forth on the touch screen to barrel roll. This will deflect enemy fire and give you a time bonus too. Use this mission to perfect barrel rolling, but it will consume the boost meter, so be careful. e)iv. Training - The Time System This introduces the time system of the game. Basically, you only have 30 seconds to destroy 15 enemies and collect their cores. If time runs out, you lose a life, simple as that. It also introduces the bar meter above the timer. For every 5 enemies you destroy, a bonus will appear, in most cases, a time capsule that adds 25 seconds to your current time. Flying through rings will also give you bonus items. Use this mission to prepare for the main game, which will have destroying tons of enemies with a constant timer. =================================== Mission Walkthroughs (Default Path) =================================== -------------------------------- THE ADVENTURE BEGINS! Slippy will appear on Turn 3 to help you out with the enemies. Let him encounter the rest of the enemies. His Plasma Shots will make quick work of them, but he has no lock-on and a weak boost meter. Finish off any remaining enemies and you're done! Mission Complete ----------------------- FOG OF WAR (Fichina) Cores to Collect: 13 Turns: 4 Time Limit: 150 seconds ----------------------- Fog hides enemies, items, and bases, More fog will roll in each turn. Slide the stylus over the fog to clear it away. You can only get rid of a limited amount of fog each turn. Boss: It's Star Wolf! Star Fox's longtime rivals! Thinking you want to collect their bounties, they challenge you to a match. To defeat them, you must destroy their crafts and avoid the bombs they drop on the field. Use U-turns and loops to turn the tables on them. Bombs can also help take a chunk out of their health. Beat the team and you can finish the stage! Enemies: a. Assault Laser x1 b. Bomber Bird x4 c. Shuriken x2 A. Shuriken x2 Mission Complete ----------------------- OIKONNY STRIKES BACK! (Fichina) Cores to Collect: 21 Turns: 3 Time Limit: 100 seconds ----------------------- Andrew Oikonny seems to have survived his encounter with the Aparoids back in Star Fox Assault, and now joined the Anglar forces in order to have his revenge on Team Star Fox. Reach A2 with Lucy to earn a few turns, mop up the enemies, and grab any items if necessary. If you don't want to deal with the enemies, especially the Assault Laser, use the Great Fox's missiles. Group c moves the fastest, but it's also the farthest, while the other groups move at a snail's pace. Don't let any enemies hiding under the fog reach the Great Fox! When that's done, your battle with former Star wolf member, Andrew Oikonny, awaits.... Boss: For those of you who saw Sony's horrendous E3 2006 conference, this will give you a few laughs. Andrew decides to attack you with the "Death Crab", (jokingly referred to as a GIANT ENEMY CRAB), the "most feared weapon in the arsenal". Choose either Fox or Lucy, and shoot the pincers when they open to disable the Death Crab. Now the boss will fly around. Again, attack the pincers when they are exposed to destroy them. Once they're gone, shoot down every one of the Crab's six legs, rolling to deflect attacks from the antannae. Once all the legs are dealt with, unload on its weak point in the craft, and you'll finish off Oikonny by doing MASSIVE DAMAGE to his craft. (I couldn't resist. ^_^;) Mission Complete Enemies: a. Shuriken x3 ----------------------- BENEATH THE WAVES (Aquas) Cores to Collect: 26 Turns: 3 Time Limit: 100 seconds ----------------------- Our favorite annoying frog, Slippy, is worried about his girlfriend back at Aquas. The Star Fox team investigates and finds out that Anglar forces have invaded the underwater cities! They set out to liberate Aquas and hopefully find Amanda somewhere... ________________________________________ |+<<<b+++++++++++++++++++++++++*******++| |++++++++++++++++A2+++++++++++++*****+++| |+++**+++++++++++++++++++++++++++***+A3+| |+++**++++++++++++++++++++FC+++++**+++++| |++++++++++++**********++++++++++**++++*| |++++++++++++************++++++++**+++**| |+++++++++++++++++++M++**+++++! +++***| |+++++++**+++++++++++++***++++ <<<a***| |++++++***+++++++++++++***++++ B +****+| |+++++***++++++++++++++**+++++ +****+| |++++++***+++++++***++++++++*****+++++++| |++++++**++++++++***++++++++*****+++++++| |++++++**+++++++***++++++++***+++S+++A1+| | ++**+++++++***+++++++***+++++++++++| |Fox ++++++**++++++++********++++++| | Falco ++++**++++++++********++++++| | +++++++++++++++++++| |GF Slippy +++++++++++Amanda+| |_______________________________________| Strategy: There's a lot of no-fly zones, so you have to maneuver through them carefully. This will also be a first-time encounter of enemy missiles, you must intercept them before they hit the Great Fox, and they can pass through no-fly zones, making them extremely dangerous. Some bases, like A2, will also launch missiles periodically, so watch yourself. Amanda will appear on Turn 2 to lend a helping hand, but her ship isn't exactly made for combat, so be gentle with her. Clear off any enemies groups, use the friendly base to boost your paths, and save the bases to clear the mission! With 4 ships, this stage shouldn't take very long. For help on missile encounters, see the Basic Strategies & Hints section. Mission Complete Enemies: a. Jellyfish x12 b. Giant Spindly Fish x2 ! - Missile x1 A1. Needle Fish x3 A2. Atomic Ray x1 A3. A2 and A1 will send out missiles, so take either the missiles or the bases out quickly. Take care of any reinforcements with the Great Fox's missiles. The asteroid belt will scramble flight paths, so watch where you're drawing and plan ahead. Mission Complete Enemies: a. Ammonite I x4 b. Angel Fish x9 c. Bozoid x1 d. Spin Devil x1 A1. Destroy the mothership bases to earn more turns, wipe out the enemies and the missile, and collect any and all power-ups on the map. Use the stylus to uncover the enemies and the hidden base, and do your thing by shooting them down. Then, finally, when all is well and done... Boss: This is it! The final battle against Anglar himself! He pilots a monstrous version of the Devil Worm and each of his sections can attack you. The best way to confront him is with a pilot with 2 or 3 bombs, like Fox or Slippy, and then bombing him when all of his parts are in the blast zone. Sections that are detached can still inflict damage on you. When all the sections are destroyed, Anglar will form a defense barrier, with the head in the middle. Continue to shoot at the head while avoiding the sections coming at you and you will finally destroy Anglar once and for all! Mission Complete Enemies: a. Spin Devil x1 b. Devil Worm x1 c. Angel Fish x12 A1. Ammonite II x3 A2. Laser Fighter x4 A3. Pylon x2 ! - Missile x1 Now you've earned the first ending, (which kinda stinks), and also the Key of Destiny! Alternate Paths ================== -------------------------------- THE ADVENTURE BEGINS! (Corneria) Cores to Collect: 21 Turns: 4 Time Limit: 100 seconds -------------------------------- What's this? The first stage became much harder now! Now the amount of cores has doubled, along with 50 seconds less time. Yep, the game gets harder as you strive for all 9 endings. Keep an eye on the enemy missile, and try to avoid going into the asteroid paths, as they will scramble your flight paths, wasting fuel. Having a missile or two for the Great Fox wouldn't hurt either. Boss: Surprise boss attack! You must deal with the Biobrain, before you finish the stage. Choose either pilot and attack the 4 triangles that surround it. Bombs are especially helpful here. Once the triangles are gone, shoot the center of the Biobrain constantly to weaken it. Amanda will join the fray on Turn 2, so use her wisely. Don't let the low amount of fog fool you, the enemies can still hide under it as well as necessary power-ups. Boss: Octoman will attack you from different angles with his Octopod, but what's this? Slippy's been brainwashed! Avoid Slippy's attacks, and try to locate the correct jar, that Octoman hid into. Not a good combo. Combine that with over 4 enemy bases and we got a serious problem. The attack swarms are brutal and move fast, so be sure you stacked up enough missiles for the Great Fox. Missiles will come from the bases frequently, but DON'T USE LEON for them. His laser is far too weak to take them down fast enough. I would recommend using Panther for the missiles, Wolf for the base skirmishes, and Leon/Krystal for the enemy squads, as they are too weak to handle the base attacks. Conserve bombs and missiles, you'll need them if you want to survive this final trial for Ending 4. Zazan and Octoman are incredibly tough to defeat, I would also recommend Panther for their encounters. Uncovering the power-ups is also key to your victory here on Venom. And now finally.... Boss: Anglar will attack you with another version of the Arrow Head. He will come out of certain holes in the environment, so watch where he's going and attack him. Use bombs when necessary and go for the rings if you're low on health. He'll then attack by throwing sections at you again, once that's finally done, it seems Anglar's running away! You'll follow him into a deep hole in Venom's bowels. Now the anglerfish will have 3 maces surrounding him, shoot them down while avoiding his ray attacks until they turn red. They will now concentrate energy for another attack. Roll to deflect it back at Anglar, but be warned, he can deflect it back! If it connects with him, his shields will drop, exposing his fragile appendage on his head. Attack it until his shields come back. The maces will now emit green lights, avoid them and continue shooting the maces until they turn red again. Once again, deflect his attack back at him again to drop his shields, and continue attacking his appendage. Now he will send a ton of metal girders to block your path. Try to manuever through them and continue your barrage on the maces until they are destroyed. Anglar will finally come out and try to inhale you into his mouth, resist with the brakes quickly. Now avoid his tile barrage and fire at his appendage once more until he is finally destroyed once and for all! Congratulations! You've earned Ending 4! The enemies are getting really tough, so if you must conserve time, use the missiles. You only have 3 turns, so get to the bases as soon as possible. I would also recommend not using Slippy for the missile stages, as the missiles have more stamina and become harder to hit without lock-on. Boss: What's this? It's the Ghost of Andross! He's protecting Titania with his bioweapon! It's the Dune Worm! Oh no! Sarcasm aside, I would recommend Slippy for this particular battle because of his Plasma Shots and high defense. The Dune Worm will pop out of the ground and hurl rocks at you. You must strike either its head or its other end to damage it. The weak points are very small, so it could take a while. Continue to damage it until the Dodra is defeated. The fireballs hurt a lot, so be very careful when attacking. Mission Complete Enemies: a. Bomber Bird x3 A1. Atomic Ray x2 A2. Clear it away to reveal the enemies and bases, as well as the power-ups and get ready to take down the squads. If you're being overrun by reinforcements from the bases, utilize your missiles. In fact, there are 3 missiles right in front of you as you start. All 3 bases are capable of launching enemies and missiles, so be on your guard and use all 3 crafts. Otherwise, you'll do fine here and get ready for the big battle with the Anglar Emperor. (Again!) A special note on this stage: James McCloud makes a surprise appearance on Turn 5. He has an excellent ship, excelling in all stats plus a 3-second time bonus. However, if you face the Anglar Emperor as him, you have to fight the hardest version of him. Use him wisely. Now he will send a ton of metal girders to block your path. Try to manuever through them and continue your barrage on the maces until they are destroyed. Anglar will finally come out and try to inhale you into his mouth, resist with the brakes quickly. Enemies ========== Swarm Fighter Shield: * Weapon: ** A weak ship with hardly any attack power. 2 laser shots or a charged shot will bring it down easy. Swarm Fighter Shield: * Weapon: *** A slightly stronger version of the Swarm Fighter. Found on Katina. Commander Shield: ** Weapon: ** A slightly stronger version of the Swarm Fighter. 5 laser shots or 2-3 charged shots can take care of them. Flash Bomber Shield: ******* Weapon: ***** This ship drops bombs frequently, and the explosions hurt A LOT. Bombs and charged shots will take care of this little pest. Elite Fighter Shield: *** Weapon: ** A stronger version of the Swarm Fighter. Moves very quickly, and has a good shield. Bomb Transport Shield: *** Weapon: ** These things drop bombs frequently over the area. Kill them before their bombs hit you hard! Starfish Shield: *** Weapon: *** A fighter that opens up like a starfish to deliver laser attacks. Needle Fish Shield: ******* Weapon: *** This puffer will inflate if you try to shoot it, and will send a flurry of lasers to shoot you down. Dangerous at close-range, but charged shots can solve this issue. Puffer Shield: *** Weapon: ** A...pufferfish? It has decent shielding, but weak weapons, so waste it with your lasers or bombs. Bomber Bird Shield: **** Weapon: *** These things will drop bombs that cause a giant explosion and damage your craft in the air. Those bombs hurt a lot, so destroy these quickly. They will run away if they are being hurt by crossfire. Assault Laser Shield: ******** Weapon: ** These things will try to make laser columns which damage your aircraft. Combine this with a heavy shield, and you've got one annoying enemy. It will not pursue you, so waste it with quick laser fire. Shuriken Shield: ******* Weapon: * These disc-shaped enemies mainly try to run away from you. They have sturdy shields, so use bombs and charged lasers to take them down quick. They can launch a steady stream of laser fire. Web Ship Shield: ******** Weapon: *** This ship's a pain. In addition to strong shields and considerable firepower, this enemy moves along very quickly, making it difficult to hit. Use Lock-ons on this enemy. Their trails hurt a lot. Fire Fish Shield: ******** Weapon: ***** Same as a regular Web Ship, except modified for use on Solar. Their beams are colored pink now. Flip Bots Shield: *** Weapon: *** Basically enemy missiles that can maneuver like a ship. Impervious to attacks unless attacked on its glowing weak spot on its back. Fire Wheel Shield: ******** Weapon: *** This thing will fly around with 3 large flame rings surrounding it. This is how it attacks. It will fly away from you, so it's an easy target but watch out for the flames. Fire Wheel II Shield: ******** Weapon: ***** A more dangerous version of the Fire Wheel. It will spin around with flames guarding it, trying to fly away from you. Fire Wall Shield: ******** Weapon: ***** These things shoot lasers that cause huge fire walls to come up out of the ground. Be extremely careful, as their attacks cause a lot of damage. Charged shots should take care of them from a distance. Jellyfish Shield: **** Weapon: *** A simple jellyfish, except equipped with weapons. Likes to travel in swarms. Giant Spindly Fish Shield: ******** Weapon: **** A spindly fish. To destroy it, you need to destroy the fins and then the main body. This thing has a lot of power and sprays lasers everywhere, so be careful with this thing. Enemy Missile Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A Missiles fly directly at the Great Fox. They can even pass through no-fly zones. Node Shield: ******* Weapon: *** This will surround itself with tons of bubbles that you must destroy. The bubbles can attack with rays, don't get too close to them. Once the bubbles are gone, you can attack the enemy's weak spot. Fire Node Shield: ******* Weapon: *** This will surround itself with tons of bubbles that you must destroy. The bubbles can attack with rays, don't get too close to them. Once the bubbles are gone, you can attack the enemy's weak spot. Basically the same except it's on Solar. Atomic Ray Shield: ******** Weapon: *** A gigantic manta ray. It's sectioned, so destroy each section to destroy it. One bomb can also take care of it. Death Plankton Shield: ******** Weapon: *** A weird rock monster with 2 long arms. Target the arms' weak points to damage it. Ammonite I Shield: ******** Weapon: *** These things travel in packs, and can only be hurt if they open up. Be warned, when they open up, they will send a flurry of laser fire back at you. Dispatch them with charged shots. Bombs will rarely hurt them. Angel Fish Shield: *** Weapon: **** Another weak enemy that travels in swarms. Bombs will take care of them, but its lasers pack a punch. Bozoid Shield: ******** Weapon: **** A carbon copy of the Assault Laser. Attacks the same way, but it has greater firepower than the Assault Laser. Chase it and destroy it quick. Spin Devil Shield: ******* Weapon: ****** This is made up of 6 individual ships. Their lasers are very powerful, so use charged shots and bombs to separate and destroy them. You must destroy the whole pack to grab its cores. Fighter Ship Swarm Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A A simple squadron with relatively weak weapons. A single bomb will put them in their place. Pylon Shield: *** Weapon: **** A squadron of 3 triangle-shaped craft. They will combine to shoot laser combos, but you can destroy the ships one by one with bombs or charged shots. Demon Fighter Swarm Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A Another weak enemy that travels in big swarms. Easily taken out by lasers and bombs. Ammonite II Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A A stronger version of the Ammonite. Can be defeated the same way as a regular Ammonite. Laser Fighter Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A These fighters fly in straight paths and shoot a stream of lasers at you. Not particular strong, but can move quickly. Invader II Shield: ** Weapon: ** A sturdy little aircraft. These dart around quickly, but can be wasted by bombs or lasers. Invader III Shield: *** Weapon: **** The third version of the Invader class ships. Likes to travel in swarms. Solar Fighter Shield: *** Weapon: *** A fighter that fights on Solar. Well adapted to Solar's harsh climate and maneuvers well in the heat. Looks like a Solar version of the Invader class. Devil Shark Shield: ******** Weapon: **** A very powerful enemy. Attack from a distance and don't get too close to it. Devil Shark II Shield: ******** Weapon: **** A fierce enemy. Avoid close contact and attack from a distance. Aquas Squid Shield: ***** Weapon: **** A giant squid that shoots bombs. Packs a punch, but can brought down by lasers or bombs easily. Can only be hurt by shooting its backside. Todora Shield: ******** Weapon: *** A sectioned worm that resides on Katina. Shoot off its sections to destroy it. King Dodora Shield: ***** Weapon: **** A sectioned worm that lives on Titania. Weaker than the Todora in shields, but has greater attack power. Saucerer Shield: ******** Weapon: **** A very annoying enemy. Basically a miniature version of a mothership, with a weak orb hanging in the middle. When it retracts the orb, it will take a LONG time for it to come out again. Just shoot these down with the Great Fox to save trouble. Great Saucerer Shield: ******** Weapon: ***** You guessed it, another version of the Saucerer. Still as annoying as always, now with more painful attacks! Spinning Core Shield: ******** Weapon: *** A spinning core. How original. This thing can spread lasers like crazy though, so careful with it. A miniature version of the Spinning Core boss from the original Star Fox. Attacker I Shield: *** Weapon: **** The strongest of the Attackers. Tends to travel in swarms and is durable. A bit of an annoyance. Attacker III Shield: ** Weapon: **** Apparently, the third version of the Attacker. Likes to travel in swarms. Web Ship II Shield: ******** Weapon: ******* Wow, those are scary stats. In addition to that, these move very erratically, often in diagonal patterns. Be careful. Invader IV Shield: * Weapon: **** The fourth version of the Invader ships. Stronger than previous models, but still has weak shields. Moras Shield: ***** Weapon: **** Another worm-like creature. Bombs and lasers should take it down. Mega Spindly Fish Shield: ******** Weapon: ***** Wow. A more powerful version of the Giant Spindly Fish, with lots of defense and attack power. Approach with caution, and again, take out the fins and then the main body. Metal Devil Shark Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A Ouch, this thing's tough. Bombs don't hurt it at all, and you must shoot the head to expose the weak spot. This may take several tries because of its strong defenses. Very dangerous. Octoman Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A The definition of annoying. He pilots like an experience Arwing pilot, therefore hard to hit. In addition, the bombs he drops hurts a lot! Use lock-on whenever possible and try to use loops and U-turns to fool him. An extremely tough opponent. Zazan Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A Basically the same as Octoman. Very annoying. Bee Fighter Shield: ******** Weapon: **** These things will phase in and out of the stage to attack. Take it down quickly before its pulsating rings hurt you. Bee Fighter II Shield: ******** Weapon: *** The second version of the Bee Fighter. Slightly weaker than the first, however. Similar to the Butterfly Fighters from Star Fox 64. Bioweapon Statues Shield: N/A Weapon: N/A These things run around like maniacs on the floor. They're annoying, but can be destroyed by lasers and bombs. Don't get too close to the floor to defeat them! Andreaver Shield: ***** Weapon: **** A large robot that looks like Andross. These things shoot a flurry of fireballs at you, but have weak shields. If you are a good roller, these shouldn't be much of a problem. Balloonist Shield: ******** Weapon: **** A ship held by several large blue balloons. Shoot the balloons or the ship to destroy it. Once all the balloons are gone, the ship is pretty much done for. Battle Butterfly Shield: *** Weapon: **** A swarm of butterfly fighters that resides in the desert. They can avoid bombs and often come in swarms of 6 a group. Durable and tough to challenge. Embryon Shield: **** Weapon: **** Embryo-like ships that bunch together as a swarm. Relatively weak and moves very slowly. 2 well-placed bombs will take care of these weird-looking ships. Attacks with lasers when bunched up into a large group. Venom I Shield: ******** Weapon: **** A fighter with some tough shields. Stands in place a lot and can quickly move to another place. Lock-on to this ship for maximum damage against it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============== h. Frequently Asked Questions ============================= 1. Are there options for a D-Pad control scheme? No, the D-Pad is only used for shooting, not moving around. You can't change it in Options, so you're stuck with stylus controls. 2. Can you choose characters in multiplayer/Wi-Fi? No, the only ship you have is the Arwing II, the default ship for multiplayer battles. 3. Did the first stage suddenly get harder after I beat the game once? Yes, occasionally some levels will get tougher as you unlock more endings. 4. Any rail stages like Star Fox 64/Star Fox/Star Fox Assault? Not really. The only true rail stages are the missile stages, yet they usually last about 30 seconds and that's it. All other stages are in All-Range Mode. 5. I heard something about a strategy element, can you explain? Each stage starts off on a map and you can touch your crafts and draw paths for them. You encounter enemies on the map and engage in All-Range Mode battles. Some strategic elements include enemies trying to destroy the Great Fox, no-fly zones, which can't be crossed, and taking over bases. It's not difficult to learn, so don't let this intimidate you. 6. Is this game good? From my experience, I can say that this is the best Star Fox game I've played since Star Fox 64, my personal favorite. Some may like the game better, and some people hate the game, so play the game first to form your opinion of the game. :) 7. Can you lose ranks on Wi-Fi? As far as I know, no. Your rank can plummet into a negative percentage though. 8. What the--? How can that person grab the power-ups/stars even though he's so far away? It's called lag. No matter how good your connection is, you are bound to play someone with a bad connection. The DS has trouble placing your opponent, causing some strange things to happen. This is mistaken for cheating, but it's something you have to deal with. 9. Voice chat in this game? Well...not quite. You can't communicate online on this game with either text or voice. But, for single-player mode, you can record your voice and make the characters speak gibberish based on your own voice. You have to answer some simple questions for the voice recording, and then you can test out the new voices by tapping the character panels. Some questions include: What time do you go to bed? How many brothers and sisters do you have? What's your favorite food? There are many more questions, but they're all randomly generated. Don't worry, you can go back to normal voices by choosing Sound from the Options menu and selecting Normal for Voice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================== j. Multiplayer/Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection ======================================== Star Fox Command supports multiplayer for up to 6 people via Download Play and 4 people via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Download Play Instructions: The "host" must select Download Play from the Star Fox Command Main Menu and touch "Recruitment". Other players must use the Download Play option from the Nintendo DS Main Menu. When enough people join, the host can cut off recruitment and begin the dogfight! Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Instructions: You need either a wireless router or the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector to connect to a Windows XP-installed computer. Set your router or computer to allow the DS to connect online and choose "Wi-Fi Battle" from the Star Fox Command Main Menu. You can adjust settings with the DS and the computer. Once you connect to Wi-Fi, you will be given a Friend Code, which you can give to your friends or users on online boards in order to play with them online. Then simply select Battle Royale to play worldwide players or enjoy Free Battle with Friends and rivals. The main point of multiplayer is to grab as many stars as possible. Stars can be obtained by shooting down opponents. A star will be left in their place, but grab it fast, before it disappears or someone else gets it! Battles are played in these 5 stages: Corneria City Fichina Mountains Corneria Sea Sea Space There are also power-ups to collect: Twin Lasers Plasma Shot (Stronger Twin Lasers) Stealth Mode (Makes craft invisible to radar) Bomb (Takes 3 seconds to go off once dropped) Supply Ring (Fully restores health) Battle Royale is also ranked, you can gain ranks by playing these battles online. You are rated from Rank Z-A, with A being the highest and Z being the lowest. This will go up as you play in Battle Royale. Free Battle is all unranked. Wins and Total Games are counted as well as Disconnects, known as Dropouts. Also, the only playable craft in multiplayer is the Arwing II, nothing else. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============ k.
