001-General Information
-----------------------------------------------------------

This is a walkthrough for the Nintendo DS game called 
Professor Layton and the Last Specter. It's a 
puzzle/mystery game containing a lot of brainteasers. It's 
the fourth game in the Professor Layton series, and it's 
the first game in a prequel trilogy.

002-Walkthrough
-----------------------------------------------------------

Select "new game" to start a new game, then enter in a 
name. This will be the name that appears on your save file.

002a-Prologue
-----------------------------------------------------------

The game begins with a number of cutscenes. First, shadowy 
villains whose faces remain unseen are hatching evil plans. 
Second, Layton, Luke and Emmy are shocked by the appearance 
of the Last Specter.

Then, there's a cutscene of the newly-hired Professor 
Layton at the university. He gets a letter from his friend 
Clark, and he goes rushing off to answer it. Layton is in 
such a hurry that he nearly misses meeting his new 
assistant, Emmy Altava.

Layton lets Emmy read the letter. Clark says his town is 
being attacked by a mysterious giant. Layton is concerned 
by this information, but the hidden message concerns him 
more.

Puzzle #001: A Secret Message
-----------------------------

Summary: Can you find the seven letter word, hidden in this 
seven-line message?

Solution: If you take the first letter of each line, you 
get the answer: HELP SOS.

Once you solve the puzzle, Layton explains some more. Clark 
lives in a town called Misthallery. Six months ago, there 
was a large archeological find in that town. Some people 
even said that it could be the location of a town made of 
gold, called The Golden Garden.

002b-Chapter One: The Fog of Misthallery
-----------------------------------------------------------

As Emmy and Professor Layton arrive in town, the first 
thing they notice is the thick fog.

You now get a short tutorial. Tap on something to examine 
it. When you tap on the bushes on the other side of the 
river, a person appears. He tells you to tap on the wooden 
crate three times.

Tap on the crate, and you'll get a hint coin. Those can be 
used to help solve puzzles.

Layton then explains how to move around town. Tap the shoe 
icon, then tap on an arrow to move in that direction. After 
this, Layton explains how to save. Tap on the trunk icon 
and tap on save to save.

Go forward one screen, then talk to the boy for a puzzle.

Puzzle #002: Tourist Spotting
-----------------------------
Place: Grand Bridge Street
Person: Charlie

Summary: There are four pictures, three of which were taken 
on the same day. Which pictures are they?

Solution: Pictures A, B and D. The shadows in those three 
pictures match each other, while the shadow in Picture C is 
the odd one out.

The boy gives you directions to Clark Triton's house. Talk 
to the police officer here if you want, then go north. 
Examine the bridge to find that there are ropes all over 
it.

You get a small puzzle here. Which rope can you cut to get 
across the bridge? That's the rope in the upper/left. Solve 
the puzzle to see a mouse go across the bridge. Whenever 
you see the mouse in this game, you can tap on it to get a 
badge. The mouse appears randomly. Try to get ten badges to 
unlock a minigame, near the start of Chapter 8!

Move across the bridge, and our heroes find a wrecked 
house. Emmy takes a photo. Examine the door in the 
lower/left to meet Brock, the house's former owner. He says 
a witch ruined the house. So, the town has a witch and a 
giant?

Examine the wooden box on the left for a puzzle.

Puzzle #003: Pick a Package

Examine: Wooden Box

Summary: There are sixteen boxes, and you need to get one. 
You know it's the same color as the box below it, but you 
don't know the color of the boxes above, left or right of 
it. Which box do you get?

Solution: Well, we know it has a box above it, left of it, 
below it, and right of it. Therefore, it's not one of the 
twelve boxes on the outside; it is one of the four inside 
boxes. It is the lower/right red box, in fact.

Go forward. The Triton house is to the left, but the road 
is blocked by a fallen cart.

Puzzle #004: Reloading the Cart

Summary: Put all five pieces inside the cart!

Solution:

Jasmine leaves. She wants to leave town before the giant 
attacks again. She also mentions the oracle which predicts 
when the monster appears. You can talk to the police 
officer who appears if you want. He talks about a reward 
for solving five puzzles in a row.

Go left and talk to Bucky for a puzzle.

Puzzle #005: River Crossing

Place: South Pier
Person: Bucky

Summary: Move the animals from one side of the river to the 
other. The chicks must always outnumber the cats, and the 
dog cannot be left alone with a single cat.

Solution: 

1. Take two cats over.
2. Go back.
3. Take two chicks over.
4. Take one cat back.
5. Take the cat and the chick over.
6. Go back.
7. Take the dog over.

Go left and talk to the boy here. He says that Clark is the 
mayor. Go forward, and you arrive at Clark's house. Examine 
the mailbox for a puzzle.

Puzzle #006: The Mailbox Panels

Examine: Mailbox

Summary: Put the panels together to spell out the word 
"POST".

Solution: Fortunately, the dark green/orange tiles indicate 
which tiles are on the top or bottom. The blank tiles spell 
out "post".

Go inside the house. The butler leaves to talk to Mr. 
Triton. Examine the broom here for a puzzle.

Puzzle #007: Mopping Up
-----------------------
Place: Foyer
Examine: Broom

Summary: The mops take two days to dry after one use. They 
break after just three uses. What is the minimum number of 
mops you need to clean every day for a thirty-day month?

Solution: If each mop can be used three times, it takes ten 
mops to clean for thirty days, because ten times three is 
thirty.

Talk to the woman here. She is a maid. Doland then appears 
and invites our heroes inside to meet Clark. Go through the 
door on the left to meet him.
 
Clark welcomes Layton and Emmy with open arms, and he 
inquires why they came. When Layton shows Clark the letter, 
he is surprised. Clark says the letter is a forgery that he 
did not write. Then...who did write it?

Someone must have wanted Layton in town for some reason.

Clark confirms the rumor that a giant attacks the town at 
night, when there is a lot of fog. The giant creates a lot 
of damage.

The townspeople think that the giant is really an ancient 
specter. Legend has it that the specter used to be the 
town's guardian, who appeared in times of peril. But for 
some reason, the specter has returned, and it is intent on 
destroying the town.

Clark asks Professor Layton to solve the mystery of the 
specter.

After this, Layton asks about Clark's son, Luke. Luke has 
been spending most of his time, hiding in his room. Layton 
figures he should talk with Luke before starting the 
investigation.

002c-Chapter Two: The Boy Who Foretold Disaster
-----------------------------------------------------------

Talk to Clark if you want, then examine the mirror in the 
corner for a puzzle.

Puzzle #008: Mirror Ballroom
----------------------------
Place: Parlor
Examine: Mirror

Summary: There are many mirrors in this room, as well as a 
small arrow and a laser pointer. The big arrow leads out of 
the room. Which exit do you take? 

Solution: B. If your place the laser pointer on the small 
arrow, then turn it on, the light will form a larger arrow, 
pointing at B.

Leave the parlor. Talk to the maid, then go upstairs. There 
are two rooms here. The one on the left is Clark's study. 
The one at the far end is Luke's room. Tap on Luke's door. 
He won't let you in unless you solve his door puzzle.

Luke says you have fifteen seconds to figure out what to 
do. You can look at anything outside the door, but he warns 
you: you can't do anything to solve this puzzle.

Examine all the things here, then call Luke to say you're 
ready for the puzzle. Do nothing for fifteen seconds, and 
Luke will let you inside. See, in order to solve the 
puzzle, you have to do nothing.

Layton and Emmy go inside Luke's room. Layton reveals the 
fact that Luke wrote the letter, and Luke predicts that the 
world will end soon. It seems that Luke is fond of making 
prophecies.

Layton asks if Luke is the oracle, and he asks Luke to 
predict when the specter will appear next. Luke says it 
will appear tonight, on Great Ely Street. Of course, this 
now becomes the destination of our heroes.

Leave Luke's room and go downstairs. Talk to the woman here 
for a puzzle.

Puzzle #009: Certain Curtains
-----------------------------
Place: Foyer
Person: Beth

Summary: The butler was in a hurry, and he wrote a note, 
saying to clean curtain 13. Which of the four curtains is 
he talking about?

Solution: Curtain B. If your handwriting is very sloppy, or 
if you're in a hurry, the letter B can look like the number 
13.

Go outside the house. Luke tells Layton and Emmy where Ely 
Street is, but Layton decides that they should go to 
Brock's house first, so they can investigate the destroyed 
remains of his house.

Go down a screen, then right. Talk to Bucky to get a Toy 
Train set, which is added to Layton's Trunk. This is a 
minigame. As you solve puzzles in this game, you'll get 
additional tracks added to the train minigame.

Go right, then down to reach Brock's house. Talk to Brock 
to learn that another house was ruined. Go north, then 
right twice to reach the area with the broken houses. The 
Professor hopes to find something that connects all the 
houses that have been ruined, but it doesn't look like 
there's any connection to be found.

Click on the pipe for a puzzle.

Puzzle #010: Rodent Rations
----------------------------
Place: East District
Examine: Pipe 

Summary: Move the key to the exit, in this slider puzzle.

Solution:

1. Move the right C-block down.
2. Move the left C-block right.
3. Move the L-block left and up twice.
4. Move the bottom 2-by-1 block left all the way.
5. Move the upper 2-by-1 block right.
6. Move the left C-block down all the way.
7. Move the right 2-by-1 block left twice, up and left.
8. Move the key down twice, then left.
9. Move the right C-block up.
10. Move the left C-block right. The two C-blocks are now 
together.
11. Move the bottom 2-by-1 block right and down.
12. Move the L-block down.
13. Move the upper 2-by-1 block down and left.
14. Move the key left and down all the way.
15. Move the upper 2-by-1 block right twice, up, and right.
16. Move the key to the exit.

Go left twice, then north. Talk to the man here for a 
puzzle.

Puzzle #011: Downhill from Here
------------------------------
Place: Warped Hill
Person: Mido

Summary: This photograph is tilted. Which side is uphill?

Solution: A. Person B has to be going downhill, because he 
is not pedaling his bicycle.

Go up to North Ely. Luke says that the hotel is a good 
place for our heroes to see the specter from. Go right, 
which is the street with the hotel on it. The policeman 
tries to stop Layton, but when he sees the mayor's son, he 
lets them pass.

Talk to the man here. He tells you to tap on the pipe here 
ten times. You find an item there. This is part of the 
Collections challenge. Over the course of the game, you can 
find hidden items and add them to your collection. For 
example, if you go to the southernmost screen of the game 
so far, the one with the Professor's car, you can tap the 
pipe for another item to add to your collection.

Go north twice to reach the hotel. Tap in the bushes here 
for a hidden puzzle.

Puzzle #145: Planet Cube
------------------------
Place: Hotel
Examine: Bushes

Summary: Put five faces onto the cube, so the roads all 
connect.

Solution: You don't use the bottom/left piece, with one 
bush and a curved road. The piece with the pool goes in the 
far left, while right of it is the piece with three bushes, 
right of that is the piece with two bushes that have a road 
between them, and right of that is the piece with two 
bushes and three roads. At the bottom is the lower/right 
piece, with two roads and two overlapping bushes. Don't 
forget to rotate the pieces, so the roads on all the pieces 
connect! The roads on the bottom piece form a T-shape; they 
don't connect to the roads of the piece directly above it.

Go into the hotel. Ring the bell to meet the hotel owner, 
who has a puzzle.

Puzzle #012: Room Check
-----------------------
Place: Hotel Lobby
Examine: Bell

Summary: You want to go through twelve rooms in the most 
efficient manner possible. What number can help you do 
this?

Solution: 25. One of the possible routes you can take 
through the twelve rooms is in the shape of the number 25.

Go up the stairs and through the door at the end of the 
hall. Our heroes talk for a bit, then the chapter ends.

002d-Chapter Three: The Specter Appears
-----------------------------------------------------------

Layton wants to explore the street a little, before the 
specter appears. Leave the room, then go downstairs. Leave 
the hotel.

Time to get a sense of where things are. Go left to reach 
the caf� entrance. Examine the fountain on the left for a 
puzzle.

Puzzle #013: Bucket Run
-----------------------
Place: Caf� Entrance
Examine: Fountain 

Summary: You want to visit both fountains on the map, and 
return to the start as quickly as possible. What route do 
you take?

Solution: You go up all the way, then along the top to the 
left. Then go down four squares and go along the area to 
the right to reach the exit. The trick to this puzzle is 
that if you take the same route, in the opposite direction, 
it doesn't work.

Go inside the caf�. Talk to the owner if you want, then 
examine the chalk board on the wall for a puzzle.

Puzzle #014: Cafeteria Conundrum
--------------------------------
Place: Paddy's Place
Examine: Chalk Board

Summary: There are four tables here. Table 1 has two 
drinks, two pieces of toast and a tea. Table 2 has two teas 
and two pieces of toast. Table 3 has three teas and two 
drinks. All three tables have the same cost, and Table 4 
has three teas. What can you add to Table 4 so it costs the 
same as the other tables?

Solution: When you examine the difference between Tables 1 
and 2, you figure out that two drinks is the same price as 
one tea. Tables 3 and 4 are identical, except that Table 3 
has two drinks. Since two drinks is the same as one tea, 
you can use a tea in place of two drinks on Table 4.

In other words, the answer is A.

Puzzle #015: Eating Point
-------------------------
Place: Pike Lane
Person: Dominica

Summary: You have to find a restaurant on this map. It is 
due north of one statue, due south of another statue, and 
due east of a third statue. None of the statues or compass 
directions are labeled, though. Which restaurant do you go 
to?

Solution: Restaurant A, which is in between all three 
statues (somewhat).

Go down from here, and you're back at the crossroads. See, 
if you take the right road or the road going up, 
eventually, it just loops around and leads you back to the 
crossroads. Taking the bottom road leads back to town.

If you want to solve Puzzle #16, you need to go all the way 
back to the Triton House. In the parlor on the first floor, 
you can talk to Doland for a puzzle.

Puzzle #016: Captain's Call
---------------------------
Place: Parlor
Person: Doland

Summary: One of the two boats is moving faster than the 
other. Which one?

Solution: The waves coming off of the front of Boat A are 
wider, so A is the solution.

Return to the crossroads at North Ely Park. Take the left 
road, which we haven't gone on before. Talk to the woman 
here for a puzzle.

Puzzle #017: Which Doll?
------------------------
Place: Murray Street
Person: Bobbi

Summary: Which of the three dolls is the same as the doll 
on the left?

Solution: C. The trick is realizing that the doll is 
reversible, that is, you can turn it upside-down to get a 
different-looking doll.

Go up a screen. Luke sees a cat and runs after it. Go left, 
then up, then left. This appears to be a fish laboratory. I 
bet the cat is inside here! Go inside. The scientist here 
has a puzzle, as does the shelf above her.

Puzzle #146: Seventy Books
--------------------------
Place: Fish Lab
Person: Shelf

Summary: You have a bookshelf of seventy books. If you pick 
a book, you have to take two books above, below, left and 
right of the book you want. If there aren't two books 
above, below, left and right of a book, you can't pick it. 
What is the maximum number of books you can pick?

Solution: Well, whenever you pick a book, you pick up the 
eight books around it. You can only do this twice on the 
bookshelf without having them overlap. So you'll get 
eighteen books in total.

Puzzle #019: Fish Feud
----------------------
Place: Fish Lab
Person: Marion

Summary: Draw four lines to separate the fish. Orange fish 
aren't with yellow fish, yellow fish aren't with blue fish, 
blue fish aren't with purple fish and purple fish aren't 
with orange. Oh, and each partition can't contain more than 
one fish of the same color.

Solution: You'll want to divide the board into nine 
partitions. The finished product looks like a tic-tac-toe 
board, tilted to the left.

After solving the puzzle, you get a chance to name the 
fish. The fish minigame gets added to the trunk.

Leave the fish lab, then go right. Go through the passage 
in the upper/right to reach the cat's house. Examine the 
pond in the lower/right for a hidden puzzle.

Puzzle #147: Tricolor Cube
--------------------------
Place: Strange House
Examine: Pond

Summary: You have a cube here. Which of the various blocks 
below can be put together to form this cube?

Solution: A, C and E.

Go inside the house to meet Granny Riddleton. If you happen 
to miss out on a puzzle, it will get sent to Granny 
Riddleton's cat, Keats.

Our heroes then decide that they're hungry, and they need 
to go get some food. Go down twice, then examine the 
streetlamp for a puzzle.

Puzzle #018: Faulty Streetlights
--------------------------------
Place: Central Pier
Examine: Streetlamp

Summary: There are ten streetlights on this street. The 
bulbs are not very good; one breaks every two hours. The 
repairman can only get one replacement bulb every three 
hours. How many light bulbs will be lit after twelve hours?

Solution: Zero. In twelve hours, it will be light outside, 
and there will be no need for streetlights.

Puzzle #020: Counting Cats
--------------------------
Place: Apartment Row
Person: Hugo

Summary: How many cats are in this picture?

Solution: Eight.

---

Go down, right, then up twice to get to the caf�. Go 
inside, and our heroes eat a meal. This takes a while, so 
when they leave the caf�, it is now nighttime. It is quite 
foggy now.

The quickest way back to the hotel is to the right, but the 
policeman is blocking the way. So instead, go down twice, 
then right. Go up once and talk to the man for a puzzle.

Puzzle #021: Foggy Numbers
--------------------------
Place: Hat Shop
Person: Mr. Browne

Summary: Put the numbers in order, according to the clues. 
5 is between two larger numbers, 3 is between two smaller 
numbers, 7 is between two larger numbers, 9 is first and 1 
is last.

Solution: Well, there are only two numbers larger than 7, 
which are 8 and 9. We know where 9 is, so we can use this 
to put 7 and 8 in place. In a similar way, there are only 
two numbers smaller than 3, which are 1 and 2. We know 
where 1 is, so we can use this to put 2 and 3 in place.

This leaves three spaces in the middle for 4, 5 and 6. 5 is 
in between two larger numbers, which must mean 6 and 8. 
Therefore, the solution is 978-564-231.

---

Go north and into the hotel. Our heroes go to their room, 
and a cutscene starts. Our heroes hear a flute, and then 
the monstrous specter appears. It destroys some buildings, 
and then it leaves, as the flute plays again. Layton gives 
the frightened Luke a pep talk, then they leave the hotel.

The specter isn't here. Go down twice. Why, the specter has 
disappeared! Our heroes see some glowing red eyes, and they 
hear the flute again.

The flute is coming from the left. Go left twice and talk 
to the man here about it. He notes that the flute has a 
weird echo effect, so it never sounds louder in one place 
than it does in another.

Go up. The flute stops playing, and Luke says it must be 
the specter's flute. In the legend, a flute was used to 
summon the specter, so it could protect the town. Luke says 
a flute was recently auctioned at the black market.
 
Layton points out the fact that the specter always kept its 
feet in the water. The parts of town where the specter 
visited are now soaking wet. It seems our heroes have 
plenty to investigate in the next chapter.

002e-Chapter 4: The Shadowy Manipulator
-----------------------------------------------------------

Our heroes talk to a bit, and they decide that the best 
thing to do right now is to go to the marketplace.

Examine the desk for a puzzle.

Puzzle #022: Paper Pair
-----------------------
Place: Room 301 
Examine: Desk

Summary: Can you cut this piece of paper, so you have two 
identically-shaped pieces?

Solution: Cut like this, so A and B are the two different 
pieces:

Leave the room. It seems that our heroes switched rooms 
overnight, because the specter destroyed their first room. 
Talk to the woman here to get a puppet for the puppet 
theater minigame.

Go downstairs. Joseph tells you that the market is west of 
the two bridges, in case you didn't already know that.

Leave the hotel and talk to the policeman for a puzzle.

Puzzle #023: The Cracked Clock
------------------------------
Place: Hotel
Person: Chippe

Summary: An analog clock was split in half. Oddly enough, 
the sum of the numbers on the two halves is equal. Where 
was the split?

Solution: A clock has the numbers 1 through 12 on it. 1 + 2 
+ 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 + 10 + 11 + 12 = 78, so each 
half has half of 78, which is 39. After playing around with 
the numbers a bit, you can figure out that 10 + 11 + 12 + 1 
+ 2 + 3 = 39, as does 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9. The split, 
therefore, goes from between 3 and 4, and between 9 and 10.

Go left, then talk to Aldus for a puzzle.

Puzzle #024: Moonlight Melancholy
---------------------------------
Place: Caf� Entrance
Person: Aldus

Summary: The prince and princess are in love, but they are 
sad because they are apart. Can you make a symbol to cheer 
them up?

Solution: Turn one tear upside-down, so you can put them 
together to form a heart.

Go inside the caf�, then talk to Paddy for a puzzle.

Puzzle #025: Taste Test
-----------------------
Place: Paddy's Place
Person: Paddy

Summary: There are four types of buns here: cream, 
chocolate, jam and butter. There are twelve buns in total, 
and we have more cream than butter, more cream than jam, 
and more chocolate than jam. What is the smallest number of 
buns you have to taste test, to figure out what kind of bun 
is which?

Solution: The picture shows 2 of one kind of bun, 4 of 
another, 3 of another, and 3 for the fourth kind. There is 
more cream than jam and more chocolate than jam, so jam has 
to be the 2-kind (if it was anything else, there wouldn't 
be less of it than two other types). There is more cream 
than jam and butter, so cream must be the 4-kind (if it was 
anything else, there wouldn't be more of it than two other 
types).

So, cream is the 4, and jam is the 2. That means, chocolate 
and butter are both 3 kinds. Our person only has to taste 
one of the 3-kinds to tell which is chocolate and which is 
butter. Therefore, the answer is 1.

Go down twice. The Professor pauses for a moment, as he 
feels that someone is watching them. Talk to the man here 
for a puzzle.

Puzzle #026: UFO SOS
--------------------
Place: North Ely Park
Person: Clarence

Summary: Move the ball from the left to the right, in this 
slider puzzle.

Solution: 

Okay, the first main goal is to free up space by getting 
the four L-pieces in the middle row.

1. Move the yellow block down all the way.
2. Move the red block down all the way.
3. Move the upper purple block into the upper/right corner. 
4. Move the left purple block all the way up.
5. Move the blue block down one and right one.
6. Move the teal block down twice.
7. Move the left purple block left all the way.
8. Move the right purple block left all the way.
9. Move the red block up all the way.
10. Move the yellow blow up twice and left once.
11. Move the red block down twice.

Puzzle #035: Candy Counter

clubs, diamonds and spades. How much of each type of candy

Solution: If you examine the two spades on the right 
closely, you'll notice that they are actually made up of a 
heart and half of a diamond. So that's four diamonds, three 
clovers, four hearts and two spades.

Taffy tells you that a bird is in charge of the black 
market. What?

Go left, then up. Layton and our heroes meet the bird in 
question. He is the Black Raven, someone dressed in a bird 
costume. The Raven laughs a lot as he runs all over the 
market, going through doors so quickly that our heroes 
can't catch up with them. In fact, he seems to be moving 
from place to place at a speed faster than any human can 
travel at.

The Raven leaves behind a piece of paper, with a hint. The 
hint says "Put my body together". Odd.

In any case, you're now with the boy that Aunt Taffy said 
to talk to. Talk to him for a puzzle.

Puzzle #036: How Many Ones?

pretty simple; the only moves that have branching pathways

Go forward, deeper into the tunnel. Go through the red 
doors to meet the Black Raven. Talk to him. He is reluctant 
to talk about the ancient flute that was sold at auction, 
and Layton threatens to expose him.

Layton then goes ahead and exposes the Black Raven, in 
puzzle form.

The Black Raven seemed to teleport through the market. This 
is because...C, there is some kind of trick.

The trick involved...C, many different people, all of them 
disguised as the Black Raven.

Layton was able to confirm this theory, because one of the 
Black Ravens had candy, while the others didn't.

The Black Raven had candy because...A, the people in the 
Black Raven costume are children.

So, all the kids we've talked to in the marketplace are 
part of the Black Raven scheme. Okay. The boy in the 
costume right now removes his costume. Talk to him, then go 
backstage. Talk to him again, and he checks his records. 
The flute was sold about a year ago to a man named Barde. 
Barde died shortly after he bought the flute, and no one 
visits Barde's Manor, because it's near the calamity witch.

The calamity witch is Arianna, Barde's daughter. Layton 
decides to go visit her next.

She lives in a part of town we haven't been to yet, which 
means it's time to leave the market. Go down three times, 
up the ladder, down twice, right twice, up twice and you're 
at the crossroads. Luke says Arianna lives at the 
northernmost part of the town.

Luke mentions a man named Greppe, who has been helping to 
repair the damage that the specter caused. He spends his 
time in the caf�, Paddy's Place. Layton wants to meet him.

Go north four times, then inside the cafe. The man here is 
Greppe. He lost the last mayoral election to Luke's father, 
and he still holds a grudge about it. For that reason, he 
refuses to talk to Luke and his companions.

Oh well, then let's just get back to meeting Arianna. Go 
south three times, then left. Go north twice, and the 
chapter ends.

002f-Chapter 5: The Witch's Castle
-----------------------------------------------------------

Arianna the Witch lives in the creepy castle on the top of 
the town, so that's our destination. Go up, the talk to the 
man for a puzzle. 

Puzzle #042: Angle Time
-----------------------

Summary: At certain times of the day, the same digit 
appears three times in a row. Two examples are this are 
2:22 and 5:55. If you measure the angle of the minute hand 
and hour hand of the clock, for every single time this 
happens, which time will have the greatest angle?

Solution: 15:55. The trick is that it's a 24 hour clock, 
not a 12 hour clock.

two. Each sentence here designates a different eight-number 
route.

Go forward through the garden to reach the manor. Arianna, 
from inside the manor, looks out at our heroes through a 
window. Tap on the front door to meet Seamus, the Gardener.

Wait...there IS no gardener at the manor! The garden was 
completely overrun with plants!

In any case, the fake gardener tells our heroes to go away. 
They'll have to enter the manor some other way.

Go up, and our heroes reach the tower that is connected to 
the manor. Go in the tower, then up. Examine the tower wall 
here for a hidden puzzle.

Puzzle #153: Two Pictures

Examine: Tower Wall (in the middle) 

Summary: The paintings in 1 are worth two million. The 
paintings in 2 are worth six million. The paintings in 3, 
therefore, are worth...?

Solution: Nine million. The outline on the wall resembles 
the number 9, as the outline on the wall in 1 resembled 2 
and the outline on the wall in 2 resembled 6.

Tap on the plants in the upper/left to clear them out of 
the way, then go up. On the wall, there is a clue which 
reads 4 1 2 3. Along with the numbers are pictures of 
flames.

Go down twice. Examine the torches on the left, and light 
them in order 4 1 2 3. That is, tap the second one first, 
the third one second, the fourth one third and the first 
one last.

Go up, and our heroes find a hidden passageway. Go in it, 
and tap on the door for a puzzle.

Puzzle #047: The Terrace Door

Examine: Door 

Summary: Each symbol on the door represents a different 
number. What are the numbers that the moon and triangle 
represent?

Solution: They represent 8 and 6. The way to figure this 
out is by examining the first equation and realizing that 
the star has to be a three. This helps you fill out the 
second and part of the third equations.

Go through the door. Our heroes are now inside the manor. 
Layton notices a picture on the wall, which is of Arianna 
and her brother Tony.

Puzzle #048: Crawling the Web

Summary: This spider follows a certain rule when going 
across its web. To get to A, it starts at 2 or 5. To get to

Solution: 2 and 4. The spider travels outward and turns 
whenever it meets a connect thread, as its rule.

Go right. There are toys belonging to Tony on the ground 
here. Tap on the door, and our heroes meet Arianna. She's a 
young girl, a little older than Luke. Arianna and Luke used 
to be friends, and Luke knows that she isn't really a 
witch.

Arianna still seems to think that she's cursed, but Seamus 
shows up and kicks our heroes out of the room. Luke says 
he'll tell Layton and Emmy more about Arianna, once they 
leave the manor.

Go down then forward. Examine the painting on the wall for 
a puzzle.

Puzzle #049: Picture Key

Summary: Which key opens the display case that holds the 
painting?

Solution: C, which is shaped to look like the painting. 
Kind of.

Go down. Luke explains that Arianna has been diagnosed with 
a terminal illness. Go forward, then left to find the lake. 
Back in the old days, the pipes connected the lake to the 
entire town. Now they have a new reservoir system.

Go right, then down three times. Layton thinks we should 
talk to the town's residents, in hopes of learning more 
about Arianna. Talk to the children, then go left twice. Go 
down, and Emmy notices something odd in the bushes.

Tap on the thing to learn that it's a fat person. He is 
odd. Go right, then down twice. Talk to the woman here to 
learn that one of the friends of the Barde children is west 
of the plaza.

Go up, then left. Talk to the child here, who is a friend 
of Tony. The child says Seamus went to the market. Go 
right, then down. The lady here confirms that Seamus went 
on a boat to the market. So we're off to the market now! 
There are two puzzles that are on the way there.

Go down, left and up. Talk to the boy here for a puzzle.

 

Puzzle #040: Fill 'Er Up

Summary: You have to pump water into a reservoir. Pump A 
takes 3 days to fill it, Pump B takes 6 days, Pump C takes 
10 days and Pump D takes 15 days. You own all four pumps, 
but you want to buy a fifth one, so you can fill the entire 
reservoir in one day. Which pump do you buy a second copy 
of?

Solution: A. Pump A fills 10/30 per day, Pump B fills 5/30 
per day, Pump C fills 3/30 per day and Pump D fills 2/30 
per day. All in all, that's 20/30 per day. Another copy of 
Pump A will make it 30/30 per day.

Puzzle #041: Stargazing

them overlap, so a green star appears in the middle. The 
pointy pieces are the top and bottom of the star.

market and talk to everyone, but no one has seen Seamus. 
All they've seen is a rich boy who likes candy.

Go left from Aunt Taffy, then talk to the girl. Go up and 
talk to the boy. Go left and talk to the boy. Go up and 
talk to the boy. Go down the hole, forward three times, 
then talk to Crow.

Puzzle #050: Middle of the Deck

Person: Crow

Summary: The cards of a deck are placed in a certain order, 
shown onscreen. What is the 26th card?

Solution: The Jack of Clubs. The number of a card always 
goes up by three, while the suit rotates according to a 
regular pattern of diamond, club, heart, spade.

Crow confirms that a child from the manor was shopping here 
today, buying a large quantity of items.

Time to leave the manor. Go down three times, then up the 
hole. Go down twice, then right twice. Go up twice, and our 
heroes hear a commotion to the east. Go right twice to see 
the commotion. It seems that someone drew the witch's mark 
on a house.

Underneath the mark, Layton finds a candy wrapper. Just as 
Layton suspected!

Talk to the man on the left here, and he says the mark 
appears whenever anyone insults Ariana.

Layton talks things over with Luke and Emmy. He explains 
the mystery to them, and you have to choose the right 
answers, just like earlier.

They wanted to see Seamus...B, to clear Arianna's name.

Who was seen at the market? B, a boy from Highyard Hill.

The clue near the witch's mark was...A, a candy wrapper.

Layton decides to save his explanation for later, so he can 
have a dramatic confrontation with Seamus.

Go left three times, then talk to Bucky. Take the boat to 
Pier 3, near Highyard Hill. Go right twice, then forward 
twice. Go forward to the tower, then left to the lake. 
Arianna and Seamus are sitting there.

Layton begins his explanation. Arianna is not a witch, and 
the curse that says bad things happen to the people who 
insult is a myth. The myth was made up by...Seamus!

Who is Seamus, really? He's Tony, Arianna's brother. He is 
the boy who was seen in the market, buying candy. He left 
the candy near the witch's mark in town, which proves this. 
Tony takes off the Seamus costume and confesses.

Arianna still refuses to talk to our heroes about the 
Specter's Flute, however. Go right, and Luke talks about 
the day that Arianna's father died. She became cold and 
angry, and she refused to talk to anyone. After that 
fateful day, the specter started appearing in town. Luke's 
mother disappeared, and people started getting mysterious 
diseases.

The chapter is coming to an end, as Layton decides he needs 
to investigate Mr. Barde's death, because everything bad 
happened once Mr. Barde died. Is he connected to these 
events somehow?

Let's solve the remaining puzzle in the town, then go the 
police station. Go down, into the manor, then right twice, 
and into Arianna's room. Examine the chandelier for a 
puzzle.

The red piece that's sort of a U-shape connects to the blue 
piece that is already in place. The red piece that's a 
straight light connects to the lower/right corner.

Now the blue pieces. The one that forms a perfect U-shape 
connects with the red piece in the lower/right. The blue 
piece which sort of forms a U-shape connects with the red 
piece in the upper/left; it will be turned on its side so 
it doesn't look like a U.

You have only two red pieces left. Only one connects to the 
blue piece that forms a perfect U. The other one connects 
to the blue piece which forms an imperfect U. Put them in 
place, and you only have blue pieces left over. The S-piece 
goes on the right hand side. The J-piece goes on the 
bottom. The two remaining pieces snap into the two 
remaining empty places.

All right, off to the police! Go down twice, then forward, 
which is down the stairs. Go down three times, left twice, 
down, right, and down to the grand plaza. Go right twice to 
police HQ.

Go inside the police HQ, then talk to the officer. He says 
the chief won't be back anytime soon, and Scotland Yard has 
all their records, anyway.

Emmy volunteers to return to London and see Scotland Yard. 
Along the way, she'll stop by the university and pick up 
the Professor's notes and newspapers. When she gets back, 
she'll meet our heroes at the library. 

002g-Chapter 6: London's Hidden Secrets

Emmy stops off at the university to get Layton's notes. Go 
inside, and talk to the Dean for a puzzle.

Okay, no more puzzles here! Examine the top of the dresser, 
above Rosa's head, to find the notes and newspapers. Then 
leave the office and the university. Grab Emmy's scooter to 
go to Scotland Yard. Along the way, an episode is added to 
Layton's trunk, which explains how Emmy knows the 
Professor. He helped her once, when she was falsely accused 
of stealing a wallet.

Talk to the police officer here. He doesn't know where 
Inspector Grosky is. Go upstairs and talk to the 
receptionist. She says that Grosky is in Central London. Go 
downstairs and leave Scotland Yard. Go left and talk to the 
man for a puzzle.

Puzzle #056: Fortune Flowers

Summary: A man wants to pick petals off a flower. First, he 
will choose "she loves me, she loves me not". Then, he will 
choose "happy, unhappy, so-so". Finally, he chooses "a

Solution: D. With D, the man will get "she loves me", 
"happy" and "bouquet" as his answers. The florist wants him 
to get "bouquet".

Scotland Yard.

Grosky is fighting a criminal, and Emmy helps knock the 
fiend unconscious. Grosky agrees to let Emmy search through 
the records.

Go downstairs. The files that Emmy needs should be down 
here somewhere, but she'll need help. Tap on Chelmey, and 
he sends Barton to develop some of Emmy's photos while they 
get the records.

Tap on the second big bookshelf to find a puzzle.

Puzzle #061: Find the File

Barton returns with the developed photographs, and Chelmey 
says that the report on Mr. Barde's death is odd, because 
there was only one eyewitness. Grosky decides that he's 
going to go help with the investigation.

Go down twice. Emmy says she will ride the scooter to 
Misthallery, and Grosky says he'll sprint there. Tap on the 
scooter to end the chapter.

002h-Chapter 7: Third Eye Jakes
-----------------------------------------------------------

Back in Misthallery, Luke and Layton decide to talk to 
people in town, so they can learn more about Mr. Barde's 
death. Leave the police station and go left.

Luke gives Layton a notebook, which has comprehensive 
information about every time the specter has appeared. 
That's certainly helpful! Talk to the man here, who says 
that Mr. Barde's death was a suicide. Barde's will and the 
eyewitness proves this.

Go left, and talk to the woman for a puzzle.

Puzzle #062: A Familiar Face

Summary: One girl has blonde hair, doesn't wear glasses, 
and has a mole under her right eye.

Solution: E. The trick is that the woman's right eye is not

Talk to the man here. He mentions Chief of Police Jakes, 
who is the one who investigated Mr. Barde's death. Chief 
Jakes is rumored to have some sort of secret method that 
allows him to solve crimes quickly.

The man also mentions the excavation site which is near 
here. They're trying to find the Golden Garden, which is 
rumored to be a city made entirely of gold. Layton decides 
to go there.

Puzzle #064: Cutting the Cake

Summary: A cake is in the shape of a triangle, with sides 
15 inches long. Tweeds wants to cut the cake, with a ratio 
of 4:5. Where does he make the cut?

Solution: Let's see...the cake is 15 inches wide on all 
sides, and it's an equilateral triangle, so all together, 
the cake is 112.5 square inches. That number is fifteen 
squared, divided by two. To split it into 4:5, you need one 
piece of 50 square inches and another piece of 62.5.

The piece which is 50 square inches is also shaped like an 
equilateral triangle. It's area is x squared, over two. The 
number which equals fifty when squared, then divided by two 
is ten. Therefore, the answer is C, 10 inches.

Layton for a bit about Clark. It seems that Clark has acted 
differently since becoming mayor, which is part of the 
reason why Luke's mother left.

Layton figures that Emmy has returned to town by now, so he 
wants to go to the library. But first, examine the middle 
cave for a puzzle.

Puzzle #066: Sorting Artifacts

Summary: Sort the six runes into two groups. The top/left 
rune is already in place.

Solution: The runes are sorted, by the ability to draw them 
in one pen stroke. The runes on the left can be drawn in 
one stroke; they are the apple, the kite-like item with a 
triangle, and the line with circles on it.

Puzzle #067: Reflections

Summary: Two signs decorate the entrance to this hotel. One 
has a mirrored surface which various lines, and it reflects 
the lines on the other mirror. Put the lines together so 
they form a three digit number.

Solution: The number is 546. Don't forget that you're 
dealing with mirror images when putting the lines together, 
which means they will appear backwards.

Therefore, the blue room is on the left, A is in the 
middle, and B is on the right. That leaves C as the house 
on the left. The red roof is east of the yellow room, so 
red is right and yellow is in the middle.

final spout wins. A starts with two valves. Can you help B

Solution: For the first turn, turn on the one spout, across 
from the two spouts that are on. This divides the playing 
field into two groups of five. Then, symmetrically copy A's 
moves. That is, if he turns on two spouts on one side, you 
turn on two spouts on the other side.

bottles left. On the next turn, leave 5 bottles left. On 
the next turn, leave 1 bottle left.

Puzzle #075: The Magic Paint

Summary: You have magic paint. With three layers, it turns 
red. With two layers, it turns orange. With one layer, it 
turns pink. How many brush strokes does it take to 
duplicate the picture here? 

Solution: It takes five strokes.

Talk to the librarian here. She gives our heroes some 
newspapers, from the time of Mr. Barde's death. If you 
haven't solved 50 puzzles yet, though, this doesn't happen. 
Layton notes that the death isn't mentioned in the papers, 
and Emmy comes in with Grosky.

Grosky goes to speak with the local police. Meanwhile, our 
heroes examine Emmy's evidence. It says that Barde fell off 
a cliff, and the will that was found at his home makes it 
seem like he committed suicide.

The witness to the murder? Clark Triton, Luke's father.

Barde left all his land to Clark, instead of leaving the 
land to his two children. Also, the London newspapers 
haven't picked up on the story of the specter in 
Misthallery. Maybe someone is preventing the story from 
leaving the town.  

Leave the library and go right twice. Talk to Bucky here, 
and he adds this as a location you can travel to. Talk to 
the other person for a puzzle.

Puzzle #076: Swap Meet

Summary: Staring with A and going clockwise, you can count 
female, female, male, female, female, male, male. You want 
to swap two people, so that the male/female counting 
sequence when you count every person is identical to the 
counting sequence if you count every other person. Who do 
you swap?

Puzzle #077: How the Bells Toll

Summary: You have three bells, with counters. The counters 
increases according to certain rules, whenever the bell 
above it is struck. Can you figure out the rules and make 
the counters all equal?

Solution: The blue hammer makes a counter increase by 4. 
The red hammer makes it increase by 3.

You can make them all equal to 19, by hitting the 8 bell 
with two fours and a three. Hit the 9 bell with two threes 
and a four. Hit the 10 bell with three threes.

Go back left. Have Bucky take you to Pier 3, the north 
pier. From here, go down, right, down, and right. Hey, 
Bucky is here, too! Talk to him, and this spot is added to 
the list of Bucky's locations.

Puzzle #087: Flip Maze 2

Summary: It's like the first flip maze, only bigger. Lead 
the ball to the finish area!

Solution: 

Go to the hole which is one square down and one square 
right of the starting hole. Follow the path down to the 
next hole, go down to the next hole, go up and left to the 
next hole, go down one and all the way right to the next 
hole, follow the path up to the next hole, follow the path 
up to the next hole, follow the path down to the next hole, 
follow the path down to the next hole, follow the path 
right to the next hole, and follow to the exit.

Go right and into the police station. Talk to the officer 
here, then go down the hall. Go down the hall again to meet 
Third Eye Jakes, the great police chief.

He's rather fat, and he hates Layton and Emmy. He gives 
them 24 hours to leave town. As our heroes leave, Jakes 
laughs madly.

Layton says the conversation has taught him two things. 
First, Jakes wants them off the case. Second, Clark Triton 
is somehow involved in this mystery. They'll have to talk 
to Clark as part of their next move.

First, though, go back inside Jake's office. Examine the 
fireplace for a puzzle.

Puzzle #088: Fuel for the Fire

Summary: The family burns one bundle of wood per day. In 
the three months, starting this month, the family will burn 
three more pieces of wood than in the three months 
following the current three-month period. What month is it?

Solution: The puzzle is basically saying that there are six 
months, in a row. The number of days in the first three 
months is three higher than the number of days in latter 
three months.

It must be November, the 11th month. November has 30 days, 
December has 31 and January has 31. That's a total of 92 
days. The three months after that are February, March and 
April, which are 28, 31 and 30 days, making a total of 89 
days.

Leave the office now. Go right, then out of the police 
station. Go left, then have Bucky take you to Pier 1, the 
one near Clark's house.

If you want, you can go visit Clark now. There are many 
puzzles you can solve at this point, though, so I'm going 
to take a long detour and solve them all. The puzzles are 
all in the south part of town (mainly, the marketplace) and 
back in London.

Go right, then down twice. You're at the twin bridges. 
Bucky has a pier in this spot, too. Go left, then talk to 
Aunt Taffy for a puzzle.

Puzzle #079: Sweet Sums

Summary: We have three math equations. A + B = C + C. B + D 
= A + A. A + 3 = B + B. Also, D is greater than or equal to 
3. Which number is six?

Solution: C is 6, B is 5, A is 7 and D is 9. The game wants 
you to solve the puzzle by determining that C is the only 
even number.

Puzzle #080: Pain the Plinth

Summary: You have a number of cubes here, which form the 
base of a statue. You have to put the cubes all together, 
then paint them. What is the smallest number of cubes you 
need, so that some will be painted on one side, some on 
two, some on three and some on four?

Solution: Seven cubes works, if you place them in a 
particular pattern. That is, you have two rows of three, 
and a seventh cube sticking out on one side.

Puzzle #081: Stick & Move

Puzzle #086: Window Boarder

Summary: Cover up the grid with the pieces available. No 
holes can be seen, and the wood can't go outside of the 
grid.

Solution: There are 25 spots on the grid, and 25 squares of 
wood without holes in them. There are multiple solutions.

One has the yellow L-piece in the top/left corner, with the 
longer side facing down and the shorter side along the top. 
The Z-piece fits below it, with the hole in that piece on 
the right and Z-piece covering the yellow piece's hole. The 
whitest piece, with two holes, goes in the bottom/left 
corner. Its two holes are going to be in column 2.

The orange piece goes along the bottom. Its three non-holes 
are covering the middle three spaces in the bottom row. 
Above the orange piece is the reddish T-piece, turned on 
its side, so its two non-holes are in the same row, and one 
of them covers the orange piece's hole.

The pale L-piece in the bottom/right, with its longer side 
going along the right wall and the shorter side covering 
the hole in the reddish T-piece. Two pieces left! The T-
piece with no holes goes against the right wall; its long 
side covers the top three squares on the right side. The 
remaining, red piece, goes in the remaining empty space.

Okay, that's it for our London detour! Now, back to 
Misthallery! Go down four times, then right. Tap on the 
Laytonmobile and go to Misthallery.

Here, go up twice, then talk to Bucky. Have him give you a 
ride to Pier 1. Then go left, up and inside Luke's house.

Puzzle #078: Lucky Tablecloth
-----------------------------
Place: Foyer
Person: Beth

Summary: You have a tablecloth here, and the shaded area 
must be cut. Now, make two more cuts, along two dotted 
lines. That will leave you with three pieces, which can be 
put together to make a square tablecloth with five complete 
four-leaf clovers. Where do you make the cuts?

Solution: There are 20 leaves on the table, so every single 
leaf must be used to make a four-leaf clover. There are 
also sixteen squares (counting two triangles put together 
as a square), so it's a four-by-four square.

The first cut starts at the top/right corner of the shaded 
square. It goes straight down/right in a diagonal line. The 
other cut starts from the bottom/left corner of the 
blanket, and it goes straight up/left in a diagonal line. 
It stops when it reaches the other cut.

Go upstairs and into the door on the left. Talk to Clark. 
He repeats the story he told the police. He was very far 
off and saw something fall off a cliff. He didn't know it 
was a person, and he couldn't recognize who it was.

Jakes closed the case as a suicide. Clark says he and Barde 
were intellectual equals, but it was still a surprise to 
learn that Barde left everything to Clark. Chief Jakes has 
been declared the executor of the estate in the meantime. 
Clark intends to leave the estate to Arianna and Tony, once 
they become of age.

Layton suggests that Jakes might not be the ace detective 
he seems to be. Specifically, Layton implies that Jakes 
gets forced confessions, so he can say a case is solved.

Once Clark asks if Layton thinks Jakes was involved with 
Barde's death, Doland interrupts. He has been listening to 
this conversation. Clark says that Layton knows a lot about

Clark is lying, because Layton doesn't know anything about 
wine. Odd. Why does he want Layton to go to the basement, 
then? Go down twice, then into the basement, through the 
blue door. In the basement, Doland says that Barde was an 
unpopular man, because he gouged his tenants.

Layton figures that someone is manipulating the information 
about Barde's death and the specter. Chief Jakes seems to 
be the only person capable of doing this.

Go down. Hanna appears, talking about how great Inspector 
Grosky is. Go right twice, and a cutscene occurs. Our 
heroes are confronted by a group of thugs, but Emmy is able 
to defeat them without too much trouble.

Grosky then appears. He has spoken with Jakes, and Jakes 
accused our heroes of controlling the specter. Emmy says 
that Jakes is lying, and Grosky runs off to interrogate 
Jakes.

002i-Chapter 8: Face to Face with the Specter
-----------------------------------------------------------

Layton predicts that the specter will appear in the 
Highyard Arch next, based off of Luke's notes. Let's go 
there and confirm this theory.

Go up twice, left and up twice. A cutscene plays, starring 
Chief Jakes and the shadowy villain from the first cutscene 
of the game. The villain knows that Hershel Layton is going 
to solve the mystery, and the villain is preparing for 
Layton.

Meanwhile, back with our heroes, Luke confirms that the 
specter will appear here, in Highyard Arch, tonight. How 
does he know this? It's because the water level in this 
canal is low. The specter always appears in an area with a 
low water level.

Luke reveals that he has a mouse in his pocket. By talking 
to the mouse, Luke has kept himself informed about what 
happens in town. Erm...right.

Anyway, now that Layton knows where the specter will 
appear, he's ready to set a trap for it. First, though, 
let's get everyone out of the area, by asking for Greppe's 
help. Greppe is inside the cafe.

At this point, you can start the Mouse Alley Minigame, if 
you choose to do so. You need ten mouse badges to unlock 
the game, and you play it by going to the crossroads in the 
southern part of town and talking to the police officer.

The caf� is left of the hotel. To reach the caf� from the 
Highyard Arch, go down twice, right, then up twice. Go 
inside and talk to Greppe.

Greppe agrees to help everyone evacuate. All right! Leave 
the caf�, and Layton says that the Black Ravens should help 
him catch the specter. That's a pretty good idea!

Go down six times, to reach the Twin Bridges. Then go left 
twice and up to meet Crow. Talk to him.

Layton explains the plan to catch the specter, but he does 
it off camera. The game skips ahead to later that night, 
when the fog has rolled in. Layton decides to stay outside, 
to get a close look at the specter. Emmy and Luke refuse to 
let Professor Layton brave this danger alone.

A cutscene then plays. Our heroes hear the flute, then they 
see the specter come. The specter destroys the arch, and 
Layton gets a good look at it as it stumbles in the trap.

Chief Jakes appears shortly after this. He puts our heroes 
under arrest. They get taken to an interrogation room, then 
left there.

Layton says he has almost solved the mystery. He just needs 
one more piece of information, presumably one that explains 
how Jakes knew the specter would appear in Highyard Arch.

A cutscene of Jakes talking to the shadowy villain plays. 
The villain thinks Jakes is ridiculously overconfident.

Puzzle #092: Key Quandary

So the old water pipes are the reason why the music is 
heard all over town, and why it seems to echo. The pipes 
start at the lake near Barde Manor, so that's our next 
destination.

002j-Chapter 9: The Specter Becomes Clear

It's time to go to the Barde Manor and continue with the 
plot!

Just kidding. It's time to take a huge detour and talk to 
everyone for puzzles. There are 29 unsolved puzzles that 
you can solve now.

Then again, you only need to solve 80 puzzles in order to 
beat the game. So technically, if you already have 80 
puzzles solved, you don't need to go south and solve the 
puzzles there. You can just go straight to Barde Manor from 
here.

Let's finish our detour, and return to Barde Manor at 
Misthallery.

The way to get there from here is by going down three 
times, then right. Take the Laytonmobile to Misthallery. Go 
up three times, and use Bucky to go to Pier 3. Then, go 
right twice, up three times and left.

The first time you visit the lake near Barde Manor after 
starting Chapter 9, a cutscene plays. As the chapter title 
indicates, the specter becomes clear. With the prodding of 
Layton, Arianna reveals that the specter is really Loosha.

Loosha is Arianna's sea creature friend. Playing the 
specter's flute calms him down. Loosha travels through the 
canals in the town. Layton explains that Loosha was trying 
to protect the town from the REAL specter. Arianna is going 
to confess what really happened, when...

Suddenly, Chief Jakes shows up and arrests Arianna, along 
with Loosha. Oh no!

Talk to Tony. Layton gives him a note, to deliver to Crow 
of the Black Ravens. Layton did ask the Black Ravens to set 
a trap for the specter, the previous night. Was that trap 
successful?

Go right and down three times. You can't leave this screen 
without talking to the characters here. They've got a 
report from Crow about the specter.

Puzzle #125: The Specter's Path

entrance to the abandoned factory. If you haven't solved 80 
puzzles, though, he refuses to tell you this information.

Go left. Tap on the boards, under the bridge. This is the 
hidden entrance! Go through the tunnel, then tap on the 
locked door for a puzzle.

Puzzle #129: The Factory Door

Summary: How does the key help you get through the door?

Solution: Rotate the door handle so it looks like a 
backwards C. Push the button on the far left, the button on 
the far right, and the button two left of the far right 
button. Basically, you're duplicating the pattern on the 
key, when the key is turned upside-down so it matches the 
door handle.

Go through the now-open door, then go forward. It looks 
like the abandoned factory is still in use. One of the 
goons that Emmy fought earlier is here, waiting for our 
heroes.

Puzzle #130: The Four Weights

Summary: There are four weights here. The difference 
between the leftmost weight and the weight next to it is 7. 
The difference between the rightmost weight and the weight 
next to it is also 7. The difference between the two 
weights in the middle is 8. What are the weights?

Solution: Well, the weights in the middle must be 1 and 9, 
because that's the only way to have a difference of 8. The 
numbers that are 7 apart from 1 and 9 are 8 and 2, 
respectively. Therefore, the answer is 2918. 8192 also 
works.

Puzzle #131: Dark Maze

maze is obscured by shadows.

Puzzle #134: Engine Parts

Summary: Put all the pieces together on the board.

Solution: See the white edges that go around some pieces? 
Those actually form a square, in the center of the engine.

The yellow piece with a white line going through it goes in 
the upper/right. The blue and red pieces goes in the 
lower/left, with the red piece in the corner. The two other 
pieces with a white line are brown and blue. The brown one 
goes in the upper/left, while the blue one goes in the 
lower/right. As said earlier, the white lines forms a 
perfect square.

The remaining two pieces goes inside the square and fills 
it completely.

The man says that the red and blue buttons on the right 
control the conveyor belt. Tap those buttons, then go 
forward, through the conveyor belt.

You know those switches you've been flipping, one in each 
of the ridges? They light up the lights above the door in 
this room. Flip Switch #5 here. All the lights are on and 
the door...doesn't open.

Odd.

Examine the gap on the floor for a puzzle. Looks like we 
need to cross the gap!

Puzzle #135: Blasted Plank

Summary: You have four sticks of dynamite and four pillars. 
Can you figure out which pillar goes with which stick of 
dynamite?

Solution: Simple enough, I guess. It's red, yellow, blue 
and green.

Once you solve the puzzle, our heroes can get across the 
gap in the floor. Examine the door to learn which code 
opens it: 1, 3, 5. I guess that means you should only flip 
the odd-numbered switches, then. Return to the second and 
fourth ridges, then turn their switches off. If you haven't 
turned on the switches in ridges 1, 3 and 5, do so now.

Once the switches for 1, 3 and 5 turn on, with the switches 
for 2 and 4 turned off, the door in the fifth ridge opens. 
Go there and examine the door.

Two cutscenes play. First, our heroes watch the door open, 
then they go inside to meet the infamous specter. Second, 
the shadowy villain who has been working behind the scenes 
the whole game has decided to finally make an appearance. 
Uh oh! Is Layton ready to face this new enemy?

002k-Chapter 10: The Legend Revealed
-----------------------------------------------------------

Layton, Emmy and Luke have left the not-so-abandoned 
factory at this point, and they're ready to save Arianna. 
Go left, down, and left three times.

Crow appears. He says Arianna is at the plaza. We'll go 
there soon, but there are two puzzles that get unlocked at 
the start of Chapter Ten. Let's solve those first.

Go left twice, then up and inside Luke's house. Talk to 
Beth for a puzzle.

Puzzle #136: Three Chandeliers

Go down twice, then right. Have Bucky take you to Pier 3,

Puzzle #137: All the Sons

Summary: You talk to two boys from the same family. The 
first has a brother two years older than him, and the 
second has a brother three years older than him.

The next day, you talk to two boys from the same family. 
The first has a brother one year younger than him, and the 
second has a brother four years younger than him. What is 
the smallest number of sons there can be in the family, if 
each statement is true?

Solution: Three. This only works if one of the sons has a 
birthday on the second day.

Okay, those are the puzzles. Let's go to the Grand Plaza 
and save Arianna now. Go left twice, down, and right. 
Layton splits off from Emmy and Luke, while he goes to the 
plaza.

In the plaza, Arianna tries to defend Loosha before Jakes 
and Grosky. Grosky isn't entirely sure that Arianna is the 
real culprit, but Jakes insists that she is a flute-playing 
witch who is bent on the destruction of the town.

Layton proclaims that he has found the real specter. Luke 
then enters, inside the specter. It's really a glorified 
excavation machine for digging up artifacts. Apparently, 
someone was using the machine to dig all over town, in 
hopes of locating the Golden Garden.

Loosha, as we already know, was trying to stop the machine 
from destroying town. Due to the thick fog, it looked like 
Loosha and the machine were part of the same creature. This 
fog wasn't natural; the culprit produced the fog on 
purpose, in order to hide his activities. The fog was 
produced by water in the canals, which is why the water 
level is low whenever the specter appears.

Who is the culprit? Layton says that it's Doland, who 
kidnapped Luke's mother to force Clark's silence. Chief 
Jakes was Doland's accomplice the whole time.

Layton's proof is Luke's journal that predicts where the 
specter will appear. Even when Luke made mistakes, the area 
where the specter appeared was evacuated. In other words, 
Doland was able to evacuate the correct areas, every single 
time, even when Luke made an error. It seems that Doland 
always knew where the specter would be ahead of time.

And so it seems that Doland evacuated the areas to get rid 
of potential eyewitnesses, not for their personal safety.

Emmy then appears, with the real Doland (and Mrs. Triton), 
who were locked in the cellar of Luke's house.

The fake Doland Noble reveals his true identity: the 
shadowy villain who has been working behind the scenes this 
whole game. His name is Descole. He has a mask and a cape 
for some reason, and apparently he's a mad scientist.

Descole somehow summons more of his excavating machines, 
which start attacking the town. They free Loosha, then they 
all combine together to form a large, destructive robot.

Our heroes split up. First, Emmy wants to stop the four 
legs of the machine. Each leg is protected with a puzzle. 
No matter which order you tap the legs in, the four puzzles 
are given to you in the same order.

Puzzle #138: Wire Cutter

Summary: You want to cut one wire, in order to stop the 
connection between A and F, so there isn't any power 
running to the machine's legs. Which wires do you cut?

Solution: Cut the top and bottom wires.

Puzzle #139: Emergency Stop

Summary: Press the buttons here, in order to turn off all 
the lights. The trick is that the buttons are in a 
different order than the lights, and whenever a light turns 
on or off, the light(s) next to it turn on or off as well.

Solution: If you play around with the lights and buttons, 
you learn...

A controls Light 2.
B controls Light 3.
C controls Light 4.
D controls Light 5.
E controls Light 1.

Press A and D, or press E and C. Other solutions work, too.

Puzzle #140: The Next Attack!

Summary: The attacks follow a specific pattern. Examine the 
board and determine where it will attack next!

Solution: The attack is in Spot #15. The first attack is at 
Spot 1, then the second attack is two spots to the right. 
The third attack is three spots to the right, the fourth 
attack is four spots to the right and so on. Whenever it 
reaches the end of a row, it skips to the leftmost square 
of the next row.

Puzzle #141: The Red Connection

Summary: Put pieces into place, in order to connect all the 
wires.

Solution: The only piece that fits into the top left corner 
is C. That means the only piece that fits into the lower 
left corner is G. Only B or H can fit into the upper left 
and right spots, and the only way to connect them is if H 
is in the upper left, B is in the upper right, and E is 
between them.

We're almost done. The only piece that fits into the left 
spot is F. A is the only piece that fits in the middle, and 
D is the only one on the right.

Puzzle #142: Enigmachine

Summary: Which symbol goes in the spot marked with a

Solution: The solution is the circle in the triangle. A 
symbol on one side of the pentagon is made up by putting 
together the two corner symbols that aren't adjacent or 
directly opposite.

The game cuts to Layton, who needs the Black Ravens to make 
something. You have a challenge to figure out what items to 
get.

The first piece is...B, a boat.
The next piece is...C, a ladder.
The next piece is...A, house beams.
The final piece is...C, a shop sign.

After that, the pieces need to be put together.

Puzzle #143: Layton's Catapult
------------------------------

Summary: How do these parts match up?

Solution: D is on top, C is on the left and B is on the 
right.

Layton's catapult springs into action. It destroys 
Descole's machine, breaking it into pieces. Then, the 
pieces of the machine reform themselves, and the machine is 
as good as new. While Descole turns his attention to 
killing our heroes, Loosha and the Black Ravens destroy the 
town's floodgates.

The resulting flood destroys the machine, but all our 
heroes manage to avoid death by going inside a building. 
Descole then makes a dramatic exit, promising to return in 
the next game. 

002l-Epilogue: The Last Gift
-----------------------------------------------------------

Examine Loosha to start the endgame sequence. A scene 
plays, in which Loosha breaks the gate to the lake, 
flooding the town again. At the bottom of the lake is the 
entrance to the Golden Garden.

Puzzle #144: The Ancient Crest
------------------------------

Summary: There is a poem that has a clue to opening this 
crest.

O traveler to paradise!
The winged sleepers yearn to dance.
Only by touching the four fruits
can you awaken them.

Bird of illusion, raise your beak high!
And so you shall lead our traveler
into sun-kissed paradise.

Solution: There are ten gold-colored circles here. Four of 
them have a picture of a piece of fruit on them. Tap on 
these four circles. They are in the upper/left, the 
bottom/left, the bottom/right and the one left of the 
bottom/right. Each time you tap a fruit, a light appears on 
a bird in the middle.

Rotate the four birds in the middle, so the space between 
them is shaped like a bird.

---

Our heroes go through the now-open passage to find the 
Golden Garden, which is a fancy-looking gardening 
containing no gold whatsoever. However, it contains 
incredibly fresh air, which should cure Arianna's disease. 
And it's all thanks to Loosha, who helped us find this 
area!

Loosha then dies, which upsets Tony and Arianna. Luke helps 
cheer up the two children, and flashbacks of Loosha's life 
play. Our heroes talk about everything, and Arianna decides 
that she won't shut herself off from the world again.

Layton and Emmy decide to leave the town of Misthallery. 
Layton is sure there will be other mysteries and puzzles 
for them to solve. Before they leave, Luke grabs Layton's 
hand and asks to be the professor's apprentice.

The ending credits roll, complete with pictures. Once you 
see "The End" screen, don't turn the game off. Press one of 
the buttons or tap the touchscreen. A scene plays, of Luke 
and his family leaving Misthallery. Arianna and the Black 
Ravens come to wish him a fond farewell.
 
There is also a scene of Descole, plotting to get revenge 
on Layton.

After these scenes, you are given the option to save the 
game. Make sure to do so, to unlock some bonus puzzles.

003-Mouse Alley Minigame
-----------------------------------------------------------

There are mice that appear all over town in Misthallery. 
You'll see the first one shortly after entering town for 
the first time. Whenever you see a mouse onscreen, tap it 
in order to get a badge.

Your goal is to get ten badges.

Shortly after the start of Chapter Eight, you learn about 
Luke's mouse friend. This unlocks the mouse alley minigame! 
Simply go to the crossroads in the southern half of town, 
then talk to the police officer to play the game.

The game is really simple.

Mice appear onscreen for a certain amount of time. Tap on 
all the mice you see, but don't tap on the dark gray mouse, 
which is Luke's mouse friend. Yellow mice are worth 100 
points, gray mice are worth 50 points, and brown mice are 
worth 10 points.

You can play the game as many times as you want. The goal 
of the game is to play it over and over again, until you 
get a really high total score. The total score is, of 
course, all the scores you've received, put together.

The higher your total score, the higher your rank will 
become. The higher your rank is, the more time gets put on 
the clock. The rankings are...

004-The Boatman's House

Shortly after the start of Chapter Two, Luke gets a toy 
train set. That's a minigame you can access, from Layton's 
trunk. When you solve certain puzzles in the game, you get 
different tracks for the train set.

You get train sets from solving Puzzles #15, 26, 36, 42, 
56, 65, 68, 120 and 136.

Here are the solutions to all then train puzzles:

#1: Bucky's Train

Down two, right two, down three, right three, up three, 
left two, up two, right three, one down, one right, five 
down, one left.

#2: Dom's Express

Go left two, up four, left two, down two, six right, two 
up, one right, two up and left to the exit.

Beating all ten toy train tracks unlocks the Boat Master's 
House, under bonuses. Save your game, then go to that place 
to find three puzzles.

Puzzle #156: Which Direction?
-----------------------------

Summary: Out character goes to a bust stop, then walks 
northwest, turns right at a crossroads, turns right at 
another crossroads, turns left at the next crossroads, then 
sees a cake shop on the right. She crosses over the caf� 
opposite of it, and she faces the street she just came 
from, to the left. If all streets are perpendicular to each 
other, which direction is she facing?

Solution: Southwest.

Puzzle #157: Emergency Stop 2
-----------------------------

Summary: We have seven lights and seven buttons. When one 
light turns on or off, the lights adjacent to it turn on or 
off, too. Figure out how the lights are connected to the 
buttons, and turn them all off.

Solution: Play with the various lights and buttons, in 
order to learn this:

A is connected to 4.
B is connected to 3.
C is connected to 6.
D is connected to 5.
E is connected to 1.
F is connected to 7.
G is connected to 2.

I found four solutions that work.

Press A, E, G, F, C, B, and D.

Puzzle #158: Touch Stone
------------------------

Summary: Slider puzzle time! Move the red and gold pieces 
into the indicated spots.

Solution: 

Your first main goal is to move the two L-blocks off to one 
side, along with a green block. I chose to do this on the 
right hand side.
 
1. Move the right green block down and right.
2. Move the left green block up and left.
3. Move the right L-piece up.
4. Move the red piece right all the way.
5. Move the bottom gold piece up and left all the way.
6. Move the top gold piece down one, right one, then down 
all the way.
7. Move the top green block right all the way.
8. Move the left gold piece right.
9. Move the left L-piece up all the way, then right all the 
way.
10. Move the left gold piece left all the way.
11. Move the right gold piece left all the way.
12. Move the top green block down all the way.
13. Move the left L-piece right all the way.
14. Move the right gold piece up one.

Now the right-hand side of the board is filled with three 
pieces. That frees up from to shuffle around the remaining

005-The Biologist's House
-----------------------------------------------------------

Near the start of Chapter 3, you visit the laboratory where 
they study fish. This unlocks the fish minigame, where you 
help fish collect coins by putting bubbles on the board.

When you solve certain puzzles in this game, you unlock 
tanks for the fish minigame. Specifically, you get fish 
tanks for solving puzzles #19, 21, 27, 39, 50, 62, 91, 109, 
and 117. Solve all nine fish tanks to get a bonus, tenth 
tank.

Tank 1: Pleasant Garden

There are six places for bubbles, and four bubbles. The two 
spots without bubbles are the bottom/left spot, and the 
spot which is against the top of the screen.

Tank 2: Quiet Crossing

There are two spots for bubbles in the middle of the 
screen; one is directly above the other one. Put two 
bubbles there, and put the third bubble in the spot above 
the three golden bubbles.

Tank 3: Bustling 'Burbs

A bubble goes in the rightmost spot, and another goes in 
the bottommost spot. The third goes in the spot just above 
the brown log.

Tank 4: Calming Arches

There is a group of three bubbles, near the center. Your 
fish is facing this group. Put the first bubble on the 
bottom of this group; that way, your fish will bounce off 
and go up/left, getting the coins.

There is a place for a bubble on the diagonal of coins. Put 
the second bubble there, so the fish turns and gets all the 
other coins (then hits the gold bubble).

Tank 5: Sleepy Seabed 

A bubble goes in the spot below the fish's starting point. 
On the right, there are two bubbles near each other. Put 
the second bubble on the higher of these two bubbles.

Tank 6: Evening Park

Place a bubble on the spot which is above the water ivy and 
at the top of the screen. Place one on the rightmost 
bubble. Place one on the spot that is directly left of the 
rightmost golden bubble.

Tank 7: Undersea Pipes

There are nine spots for seven bubbles. The leftmost bubble 
in the top row is not filled. The second-from-left bubble 
in the second-from-top row is not filled. All the other 
bubbles are filled.

Tank 8: Toadstool Meadow

A bubble goes on the spot above the leftmost piece of water 
ivy. A bubble goes in the spot which is against the ground 
and to the right. A bubble goes in the spot two spaces left 
of the water ivy that is floating in midwater, and a bubble 
goes in the spot that is one up and one right from the 
water ivy that is floating in midwater.

Tank 9: Spindly Spires

One goes on the bubble one right and two up from the left 
golden bubble. One goes in the spot two left and two up 
from the left golden bubble. The final bubble goes on the 
left of the cluster of three bubble spots, in the middle-
right of the screen.

Tank 10: Laytonmobile Cove

A bubble goes in the second-from-left spot; your fish 
touches this before getting any coins. A bubble goes in the 
spot up/right of the group of six coins. A bubble goes in 
the spot below the group of six coins.

When you solve all ten tanks, you unlock the Biologist's 
House, under bonuses. Save your game, then go to this place 
to find three puzzles.

Puzzle #159: Bomb Squad
-----------------------

Summary: Slider puzzle time! Move the bomb to the top of 
the board. Oh, and the cream-colored block can't be moved.

Solution:

Puzzle #160: Gold Marbles
-------------------------

Summary: Jump over all the marbles in the board. There are 
twelve places you can't jump to, and the final jump must 
result in a marble being in the middle spot. Seven of the 
places next to the middle spot are blocked off, though.

Solution:

For this solution, you basically make the exact same moves 
on the left and on the right.

1. Jump the bottom marble in Column Three up.
2. Jump the bottom marble in Column Seven up.
3. Jump the third-from-bottom marble in the middle column 
left.
4. Jump the bottom marble in the middle column up.
5. Jump the bottom marble in the middle column right.
6. Jump the second-from-top marble in Column Three down.
7. Jump the bottom marble in Column Three up.
8. Jump the second-from-top marble in Column Seven down.

Summary: Help the frog jump over to the right side of the 
board. He must use each lily pad once.

Solution: 

Mr. Frog goes right, down, down, right and right. He is in 
the bottom/right corner. He goes up, up, left, right and 
down. He's in the bottom row. He goes up, left, left, up 
and down. He's in the bottom row again. He goes left, up, 
up, and down. He's in the bottom row and the bottom three 
rows of the puzzle are gone now. Good job, Mr. Frog!

From here, he goes up, left, up and up. He's in the 
upper/left corner. He goes right, left, right, down, down, 
right, up, up and right. He's in the upper/right corner 
now. He goes down, left, down, right and right to the exit.

006-The Puppeteer's House
-----------------------------------------------------------

Near the start of Chapter Four, you unlock the puppet 
theater minigame. Throughout this game, as you solve 
puzzles, you get actions for the puppet theater. It's a 
pretty simple challenge. Just guess which words go in the 
blank spots as you move along with the story.

You unlock actions by solving puzzles #23, 25, 33, 35, 37, 
40, 46, 47, 52, 53, 59, 64, 70, 71, 74, 75, 76, 85, 107, 
112, and 121.

Puzzle #162: Cube Hammer
------------------------

Summary: This hammer is built from seven identical cubes. 
Recreate the pattern on the cube diagram.
 
Solution: 

The circle is in the top. The diamond is in the left, and 
it is turned on its side, so it is wider than it is tall. 
The bottom square has the club, and its smaller end (the 
one that isn't a leaf) is on the bottom. The heart is on 
the left of the two remaining spaces, and it is turned so 
the bottom of the heart faces right. The final spot, the 
farthest right spot, has the star. It is rotated counter-
clockwise once, so its longest pointy spot is facing 
up/right.

Puzzle #163: Mother and Daughter
--------------------------------

Summary: Mother is at Point A. Daughter is at Point B. They 
are walking at the same speed. Mother takes the red path 
and daughter takes the yellow path. They keep walking until 
they meet somewhere. Which point will they meet at?

Solution: Daughter travels across ten lines, while Mother 
travels along sixteen. They meet at E, on Mother's second 
trip.

Puzzle #164: Jewel Swap
-----------------------

Summary: Another slider puzzle! Switch the locations of the 
two jewels, then put the frame together.

Solution: 

Well, gee, this is a hard puzzle to describe. Okay, the 
four frame pieces are going to be called top/left, 
top/right, bottom/left and bottom/right. I'll use those 
names, no matter where these pieces are located on the 
board.
 
1. Move the top/left frame left.
2. Move the bottom/left frame up, right and up.
3. Move the bottom/right frame right.
4. Move the blue jewel right all the way.
5. Move the top/left frame down twice and left.
6. Move the bottom/left frame left twice.
7. Move the top/right frame left twice.
8. Move the blue jewel left
9. Move the bottom/right frame left and up twice.
10. Move the blue jewel right all the way. It is now in the 
bottom/right corner.

11. Move the top/left frame right all the way.
12. Move the bottom/left frame down twice and left.
13. Move the top/right frame left and down twice.
14. Move the bottom/right frame left all the way.
15. Move the red jewel left all the way.
16. Move the blue jewel up twice and right. It is in place! 
Not for long, though.

Puzzle #165: Three Blocks
-------------------------

Summary: You can make three full blocks from these six 
pieces. Each block has a piece from the top row and a piece 
from the bottom row. What are the three matches? 

Solution: It's A and E, B and F, and C and D.

Puzzle #166: Sliding Pipes
--------------------------

Summary: Slider puzzle time! Move the red piece into the 
bottom/right corner. Two of the pieces can't be moved.

Solution: The general strategy will be to move the L and T 
pipes in the upper/right, then the brown piece in the 
lower/left. Then, move the L and T pipes to the 
bottom/right, so you can move the red right, down and left. 
Move the brown piece to the upper/left, move the red piece 
left, move the L and T pieces up, and move the red piece 
down and right.

First, let's get the L and T pipes in the upper/right.

1. Move the leftmost green pipe up.
2. Move the leftmost green pipe in the bottom row up.
3. Move the left green pipe in the bottom row left all the 
way.
4. Move the right green pipe in the bottom row left all the 
way.
5. Move the green pipe in the third row down all the way, 
then left all the way.
6. Move the green pipe in the second row down all the way.
7. Move the green pipe in the top/right corner down all the 
way.
8. Move the L-pipe right all the way.
9. Move the T-pipe right and up.

Next, we want the brown piece in the lower/left.

10. Move the red pipe right.

------------------------

Summary: It's the trampoline puzzle again, only this time, 
the area you have to land the item on is much smaller.

Solution: Both trampolines go two square right and one 
square down. The first one is four squares above the 
leftmost post. It bounces the bomb right in between two of 
the other posts.

The second trampoline goes above the L-post, so the bomb 
bounces off of it and into the catcher's glove.

008-The Puzzle Keeper's House
-----------------------------------------------------------

Once you solve all 155 puzzles in the normal game and all 
12 puzzles in the bonuses section, you unlock the Puzzle 
Master's House, containing the final three puzzles of the 
game.
 
Puzzle #168: Button to Button
-----------------------------

Summary: Open the door by pushing all the buttons. The 
final button you press is the star, but what is the first 
button you press?

Solution: That's the 3 down button, directly above the 
star.

Puzzle #169: Mysterious Maze
----------------------------

Summary: It's one of those mazes which is double-sided. 
When a ball drops through a hole, the board flips over to 
the other side, which has a different layout. Also, the 
maze is dark so you can't see all of it at once.

Solution: 

Go right three times, down twice, right once and up twice. 
You fall in a hole. Go down, left, up, left twice, down, 
left twice, up and right into a hole. Go right, then down 
all the way, left, down, right, down and left into a hole.

Go left, down all the way, right all the way, up twice and 
right, into a hole. Go left all the way, up three times, 
right, up, left and up twice, into a hole. Go down three 
times, left, up twice, left, down twice, left and up, into 
a hole.

Go right twice, up all the way, right twice, down, right, 
down, left twice and down twice, into a hole. This is the 
tricky spot. Go right, then back left, into the hole you 
just went through.

Go left twice, down and left twice, into a hole. Go left, 
down, left three times, down, left twice, down and right 
twice, into a hole. Go up, right three times, down, left 
twice, down and right, to the exit.

Puzzle #170: The Greatest Escape
--------------------------------

Summary: It's a slider puzzle! Move the orange piece to the 
lower/right and the blue piece to the lower/left.

Solution:
