About this guide / /=======================/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How many of you are looking for that one particular item you need for the battle tower? Or maybe you?d like to know how to get another awakening stone or two? Are you just interested in finding lots of extras to trade on wifi? If you can answer yes to any of those questions, you might find this guide interesting. I happen to be an item hoarder on Pok?n games, and I want to create a definitive guide to collecting those items. So let?s get started! First, some ground rules. Let me tell you what this guide is NOT. This is not a walkthrough. I am not going to be able to tell you how to progress through the game, and please, please PLEASE stop emailing me and asking me to. xD My purpose is to describe the various items you can get throughout the game, and where to find them. That's all. So please keep that in mind. :) Thank you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /=========================/ / II. Places to get Items / /=========================/ A. Pok?rts ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These places sell a variety of Healing Items, some Held Items, Pok?lls, and Mail. They're a good place to look for all kinds of basic items. The department store in Tobari City is also a great place to get a variety of things, from the basic mart items to TMs and Held items. It's well worth checking out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. NPCs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many of the characters in-game give you items. It's important to talk to everyone you meet, because oftentimes you'll get an item you can't get anywhere else. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. Battle Tower and the Game Corner ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These items are offered up as prizes. Things like TMs, held items, and other useful items can be found in these places. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D. Itemfinder ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your itemfinder attachment for the Pok?hi is a wonderful tool. It allows you to locate the positions of all kinds of items, from very basic heal items and Pok?lls all the way up to PP Ups and held items. It's a vital tool. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E. Wild Hold Items ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many of the Pok?n that appear in Diamond and Pearl are holding items. It's common to hear about Magby and Elekid holding magmaboosters and electroboosters, respectively. But there are also certain kinds of berries that only can be found on wild Pok?n, not to mention expensive and otherwise unobtainable goodies. Thievery is very rewarding in Pok?n! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- F. Pickup ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Several Pok?n have the useful ability called "Pickup" (Mono hiroi) that will sometimes (10% of the time) allow that Pok?n to suddenly "pick up" an item after a successful battle. The Pok?n doesn't have to participate in battle, and it doesn't have to be concsious. Which items you can find depend on the Pok?n's level, so it's important to choose wisely which level your Pickup Pok?n will have (more on that later). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- G. In-game events ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some items (especially key items) are only obtained by completing a certain task or clearing a specific goal. These items are often important, and often one of a kind. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- H. Trainer Pok?n hold items ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some Pok?n owned by NPC trainers carry items. I don't know the specifics of this yet, but I will add more as it comes in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. Trades, GTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sometimes, a Pok?n you get in trade will be holding an item. If it's one you're trading for with a friend, you can often dictate what that item is, through negotiations of the trade. With the GTS, it's anyone's game, and the priority of whomever puts the Pok?n up for trade. Keep your eyes open for good deals! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- J. Lottery ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Kotobuki City, there's a building with a large television screen flashing on the front of it. That's the TV station. Inside, you'll find a lady behind a counter. Every day, you can talk to her and play the Pok?n lottery. Like in previous games, it depends solely upon matching the drawn number against trainer numbers on all your Pok?n - including the ones in the PC. You win a prize for matching even one number, so it's important to check every day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- K. Nomose City Berry Lady ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Nomose City there's a house in the southwestern most corner that houses a woman who travels all over Shinou collecting berries, and every day she will gladly share her spoils with you. Every day she will give you one berry from numbers 36-52, which comes in very handy, as some of them can only be found through her and by stealing them from wild Pok?n (some of which only appear in swarms). Making a daily trip to her house is not a bad habit to fall into. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- L. Pal Park Belt Guru ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just to the left of the Pal Park, on Route 221, is a house. Inside you'll find a man who seems to have a thing for Pok?n of particular levels, and for belts! Every day he'll tell you he'd really love to see a Pok?n of level [insert level here]. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to find a Pok?n of that level and bring it to him before the day is done. If you succeed, you will get one of three belts: A black belt, an Expert Belt, or a Focus Strip. If you fail, you have to come back the next day and try a new level. Note that the levels he asks for are COMPLETELY random. He might ask you for level 98 one day, and then level 5 the next. It's not a bad idea to check with him every day either, and it's very easy to do, because when you enter the Pal Park building for the first time, it is registered as a fly-able location. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- M. Berry Master ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Berry Master lives in the house on route 208, and every day, he will give you a berry (1-26). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- N. Contact Plaza ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Contact Plaza (in Mosuga City) is a great place to get items. You need only bring a "cute" Pok?n inside (cute Pok?n include Pinpuku, Clefairy, Psyduck, Pachirisu, Pikachu, Mimiroru, Fuwante, Jigglypuff, Torchic, Skitty, and Shroomish). Once inside, the walking begins! After every 200 steps (keep an eye on your pedometer attachment of your Poketchi) turn around and press A while facing your Pokemon. It will have picked up an item - either a rare berry (numbers 27 thru 35) or a Super Contest accessory. It is possible that different Pokemon yield different items, but I can't confirm it yet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- O. Pok?n Battle Revolution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The new Pok?n Battle game for the Wii promises to deliver an added bonus - items you can trade to your Diamond and Pearl games! The available items may be bought with points (I assume you accumulate these through battles). These are the available items: Item Name Cost -------------------------------- Dark Stone 7200 pts Light Stone 7200 pts Awakening Stone 7200 pts King's Rock 7200 pts Leftovers 7200 pts Quick Claw 7200 pts Light Clay 7200 pts Adherence Glasses 7200 pts TM 06 (Toxic) 9600 pts TM 12 (Taunt) 9600 pts TM 66 (Quick Revenge) 9600 pts TM 78 (Entice) 9600 pts TM 87 (Swagger) 9600 pts -------------------------------- Thanks to Diablocon for pointing me to mynamejt's YouTube video! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /=================================/ / III. Item Collection Strategies / /=================================/ A. The "Gotta Steal 'em All" Strategy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some items can only be obtained through item theft, and it's fortunate that there are many options for doing this. Many Pok?n can learn one of these three moves, which will allow you to steal the opponent Pok?n's held item: Trick(this move exchanges your own held item with the opponent's, but if you aren't holding one, it acts just like the others), Thief, and Covet. Of the three, I must emphatically recommend Covet. It has the same base power as Thief, and is four times the number of PP, at a whopping 40PP. Give it three PP Ups or a PP Max and you'll find yourself with a thieving powerhouse capable of stealing 64 times without a trip to the Pok?n center or using an ether. Watch out for ghosts, however. Covet is normal and physical, so it won't hit ghosts without help. That's where Odor Sleuth comes in handy. My favorite thieves are Zigzagoon/Linoone. They learn both of these moves naturally, and at fairly low levels too. As an added bonus, they also can come with the ability Pickup, which is another handy item scavenging tactic (more on it next). They are also hardy little critters, and have a great movepool. You'll have to get your national dex to find one on the GTS or get a swarm, or you can have a friend trade you one. They're definitely worth it! If you want to steal held items, another thing that you'll find really handy is the "Compoundeyes" ability. This ability increases your chances of running into a wild Pok?n holding an item, but it only works if the compoundeyes Pok?n is at the front of your team. You can do what I did and take any old Pok?n with that ability and give him a smoke ball to hold. Look for the Pok?n you want to steal from, and if you run into a different one, the smoke ball will allow him to run away. Some Pok?n that have this ability are Nincada, Butterfree, Venonat, and Yanma. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. Pickup and Prosper ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many Pok?n come with the Pickup ability. Zigzagoon, Linoone, Phanphy, Meowth, Aipom, Etebossu, Teddiursa, and Pachirisu are the known Pok?n. Keep in mind, however, that some of them have alternate abilities too, so you may have to do some searching to find one with Pickup. Zigzagoon and Linoone picked up a second ability in Diamond and Pearl, so you'll have be careful with them. A quick note about Pickup. The items you can get range greatly in rarity and value, but one thing I have definitely noticed is that it DOES depend on level like it did in Emerald. Here is a listing of the items you can get with Pickup, and at what levels they are available. Thanks to TRE for this information! These percentages are the result of TRE's guess work, coupled with the percentages used in Emerald. C. Lotto Fever -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I cannot stress how important it is to check the lotto number every day you can. The prizes for this get very good very fast. My strategy for this is simply to trade with many people, and do it as often as you can, because the more trainer numbers you have in your PC and your party, the better chances you have at a win. To increase your odds, try offering semi-decent Pok?n on the GTS for crappy ones. :P Ask for common ones like Bippa and Mukkuru, and watch the trainer numbers roll in. I would also recommend you keep all your traded Pok?n in a separate area of your PC, so that you don't accidentally trade them away. xD Here are the prizes you can win. Note that they will be filled in as they are confirmed by other players: 1. 1-number match - earns you an extra accessory in the fitting room upstairs. 2. 2-number match - earns you a PP Up. 3. 3-number match - earns you an Exp. Share 4. 4-number match - Unknown 5. 5-number match - Unknown, but suspected to be a Master Ball. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================================ ================================================================================ == ITEM LIST == ================================================================================ ================================================================================ This list is divided into sections, depending on where in the pack they are located. Other Underground Items / /--------------------------------/ Gems and treasure are found by first finding a sparkle on the wall by tapping the touch screen. Once you find one, walk up to it, face it, and hit A. The game will ask if you want to dig. Choose yes, the first option. You'll be taken to a new screen with a lot of dirt and rocks. You use your stylus to carefully chip away at the dirt and rocks to reveal the items underneath. You can find either gems or treasure, but you only have a limited number of hammer strokes, so make them count! Also, keep an eye on the light- colored dirt. If you pay close attention to the tiny hole in the center of the cracked ones, you can often spy the glint of an object underneath. It makes digging much easier if you simply crack the dirt and only hit the ones with odd colors glinting at you, as you use less hammer strokes this way. A. Gems Gems are used to buy traps and goods (secret base items) from the various hikers you will find stationed underground. To collect gems, you will often have to combine piles, or else you will run out of space in your bag and you'll start to throw away the new gems that you find. To combine piles, simply choose a gem in your pack, choose the first menu option that comes up (bury), and then repeat the process for all the other gems of that color. When you have finished with that color, exit the menu and hit A. You will then pick up a combined pile of the gems. This process is not without drawbacks, however. When you combine gems, you invariably lose a lot of them. Unfortunately, there's no way around this. The hikers will not take multiple piles of gems as payment. It all has to be in one lump pile. This is also important to consider when you have piles that are larger than what they are asking for. If you stack your piles too high, you'll be throwing your gems away on the cheaper items. ================================================================================ Name Gem Equivalent ================================================================================ Pink Gems Pearls Red Gems Rubies Blue Gems Sapphires Green Gems Emeralds Mixture Gems Diamonds -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. Treasure Treasure is simply a collection of items you dig up that can be used aboveground. As your treasure bag fills, it's a good idea to periodically empty it into your aboveground bag, or else you'll run the risk of overflowing the bag and throwing items away as you dig them up. To transition your treasure into your overworld bag, simply select an item, and choose the first menu option to move it to your overworld bag. You can virtually keep hitting A until all of them have been moved. It's that simple. ================================================================================ Name ================================================================================ Aruseus Plates -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Black Steel Orb -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blue Shard -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Claw Fossil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cold Rock -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crucial Stone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dome Fossil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everstone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fire Stone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Green Shard -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hard Stone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Heart Scale -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helix Fossil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helmet Fossil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hot Rock -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leaf Stone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Light Clay -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Revive -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moon Stone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Old Amber -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Precious Bone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Red Shard -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Revive -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Root Fossil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sandy Rock -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shield Fossil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Star Piece -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Stone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thunderstone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Water Stone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wet Rock -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yellow Shard -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. To obtain the Pok?hi, you need to get to Kotobuki city. Once there, you will have to hunt down three Jesters, and answer the questions that each one gives you. When you guess all of a Jester's questions right, he'll give you a coupon. Pok?n Extras / /--------------------------------/ There are two types of extras that I'll talk about in this section - Accessories and Backgrounds. Backgrounds are used in Photographs, and I'll explain that in more detail in a second. First, I'll explain Accessories. Accessories have a few distinctive uses in Pok?n Diamond and Pearl. The two I know of for certain are Super Contests, and Pok?n Photographs. In Super Contests, you can attach accessories to your Pok?n that will help them stand out in the competition. Photographs are made in the TV Studio in Kotobuki city, in the second floor's fitting room. Enter through the doorway in the upper left corner, and you'll see a man standing there. He will let you dress up your Pok?n with your accessories and backgrounds, and take its photograph to display in one of the frames to the right. There are several ways to get accessories: as gifts from NPCs, by matching one number in the lotto, and by buying them in the Sonou Flower Shop. Obviously winning them or receiving them as gifts are the optimum choices, as the Sonou Flower shop charges in berries, and wants a lot of them! The following is a list of accessories, where you can get them, and how much they cost, if anything. A.
