I. INTRODUCTION
===============================================================================

Welcome to my first FAQ for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. This game is the best of
the series in my opinion, and it's definitely the largest. You say you spent 80
hours on Pokemon Emerald? Well prepare to spend twice that on this one. After
seeing the numerous topics asking the same old questions on the Diamond & Pearl
boards, I decided it was time to write a FAQ. I hope this will cut down on the
number of questions that get asked repeatedly, and may it help you in your
quest to become a "Pokemon Master"!

===============================================================================

III. SIDEQUEST EVENTS
===============================================================================

---------------------
[01] National Pokedex
---------------------
The national dex is a little bit harder to obtain then it was in Emerald/FR/LG.
To start, you need to SEE the first 150 Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokedex. This is
quite easy to do, as you should have already seen most of them by the time you
get to the Elite Four. If you're wondering how you can find the legendary not
found in your version (Dialga/Palkia), it is quite simple. After you beat or
catch Dialga/Palkia, return to Celestic Town and go into the large house at
the top. When you talk to the woman inside, she will tell you about the other
legendary Pokemon and show you a picture of it. This count as it being "seen".

Once you have seen all 150 Pokmon, return to Sandgem town and speak with the
professor. He will take a look your Pokedex and note that you have completed
it. After this brilliant deduction, Professor Oak will come in through the
door and also take a look at your Pokedex. Seeing that you have completed the
Sinnoh Pokedex, he gives you the National Pokedex and tells of you several new
places you can now visit. He also explains how you can now send your Pokemon
from the previous GBA games to Diamond & Pearl by visiting the Pal Park!

---------------------
[02] Lost Room Key
---------------------
At the Valor Lakefront you will find a woman who has lost her room key. The key
is hidden on the left side of the ground above the reception building. When you
return her key, she'll thank you and run inside her room. Follow her and talk
to her again for a free Lavaridge Cookie.

---------------------
[03] Wayward Cave
---------------------
Wayward Cave is located at the very back of Route 206. The entire cave is
pitch black except for a small circle of light around you. I'd recommend you
get the TM "Flash" before attempting this area, as it will make it much easier.
There are a few items in the cave, you can find the list below. Anyways, at the
very back of the cave you will find a trainer named Mira. She will ask you to
escort her to the entrance. You cannot use Dig or an Escape Rope to get there.
Once you get to the entrance she will thank you and run off. So what do you get
for this boring quest? When you visit the Battle Tower, Mira will team up with
you in the double battles!

/--------------------\
Rare Candy
Escape Rope
TM32 (Double Team)
\--------------------/

There is also a hidden entrance to the cave a few steps to the left of the
normal entrance. If you enter this way, you will find an area not normally
accessible. Inside you will find several bike ramps leading to items. The
complete list of items can be found below.

/-------------------\
Revive
Elixir
Grip Claw
TM26 (Earthquake)
\-------------------/

---------------------
[04] Old Chateau
---------------------
The Old Chateau is located in Eternia Forest. In the north area of the forest
you will find several trees you can cut. Behind these trees is the chateau. In
the chateau there are a couple items (See below) and some ghosts. However the
true secret becomes available when you have the National Dex and have beaten
the Champion. If you return to the upper floor and view the TV at night, you
will encounter the Pokemon Rotom. Be careful, as it's at Lv15.

/-------------------\
Antidote
Dark Plate
Old Gateau
TM90 (Substitute)
\-------------------/

---------------------
[05] Solaceon Ruins
---------------------
The ruins are the hiding place for the Unown in this game. For those that
don't know, there is a specific Unown for each letter of the english alphabet.
Inside the Solaceon Ruins you will find some glyphs on the wall. They are
written in Unown. They translate into a set of directions. You need to take
the stairs in the following order:

Top-Right, Bottom-Left, Top-Right, Top-Left, Top-Left, Bottom-Left

If you follow the directions correctly, you will reach a secret room. In the
room you will find the following items.

/-------------\
Nugget
Rare Candy
Mind Plate
Odd Incense
\-------------/

---------------------
[06] Pokemon Mansion
---------------------
You can visit the mansion any time after seeing your Rival in Hearthome City.
To get there go south of Hearthome City onto Route 212. Inside the mansion
you will find several items. Those items are:

/----------------\
Great Ball
Soothe Bell
Burn Heal
TM87 (Swagger)
\----------------/

In the back of the mansion there is a trophy garden. You can find several
Pokemon in the grass, they are listed below:

/------------------\
Mansion Pokemon
------------------
#025 Pikachu
#172 Pichu
#315 Roselia
#397 Staravia
#402 Kricketune
\------------------/

Once you obtain the National Dex, return to the mansion and speak with the
owner. He will tell you of a rare Pokemon that can be found in the garden.
The Pokemon will change everyday. Up to two rare Pokemon can be in the
garden, and everyday you speak with him, one of them will change. The
complete list of possible encounters is below:

/------------------\
Mansion Pokemon
------------------

#438	Bonsly
#439	Mime Jr.
#440	Happiny
\------------------/

---------------------
[07] Fuego Ironworks
---------------------
The Fuego Ironworks can be accessed any time after beating the fifth gym
leader. You can find it by using Surf on Route 205. There is a Max Potion
hidden near the building, and some rare wild Pokemon in the grass. Inside
the building you will have to fight several battles. You can also find the
following items:

/---------------------\
Burn Heal
Rock Incense
Fire Stone (x2)
TM35 (Flamethrower)
\---------------------/

If you are having trouble finding the second Fire Stone, you need to talk to
the man standing near the furnace to obtain it.

---------------------
[08] Iron Island
---------------------
You can get to Iron Island by taking a ship from Canalave City. Make sure to
only bring five Pokemon with you, as your about to obtain another one. Once
you arrive at the island, enter the cave and take the stairs on the right.
After several battles you'll take an elevator and be presented with another
set of stairs. This time you should the left. At the bottom of the stairs
you will find a trainer named Riley who wants you to escort him to the bottom
floor. Battle through a couple more trainers and you will run into 2 Galactic
Grunts. After defeating them, Riley will give you a Riolu Egg for your help.

[10] Honey Pokemon
---------------------
Ever notice those brown trees that are mixed in with all the green ones? Well
those trees have the ability to attract certain Pokemon! How would one go
about doing such a thing, you might ask. It's quite simple. After you rescue
the old man who is being hassled by the two Galactic Grunts in Florama Town,
he will start selling you Honey. If you go up to any brown tree and press A on
is, it will ask you if you wish to spread Honey on the tree. Once you've spread
Honey on a tree, wait about 12 hours and come back. The tree will be shaking,
and when you press A on it you will encounter a Pokemon! However, if you wait
more than 24 hours after spreading the Honey, the Pokemon will be gone. A lot
of the time the Pokemon you encounter will be common, but there are some unique
Pokemon that can only be found on brown trees. These Pokemon are listed below.

/-----------------\
Honey Pokemon
-----------------
#190 Aipom
#214 Heracross

* Chain Of Events *
*************************************************************************
* Here you will find the ways to catch Pokemon that require a certain *
* "chain of events" to be completed before they will appear. These *
* Pokemon cannot be caught through normal means otherwise. *
*************************************************************************

----------------
[#425] Drifloon
----------------
If you visit the Valley Windworks on a Friday after defeating Team Galactic,
you will find Drifloon standing outside. He can be found there all day.

----------------
[#442] Spiritomb
----------------
While digging in the Sinnoh Underground you may find a Odd Keystone. You
also can find one from the Blackbelt at the end Route 208. After you have
one, take it and place it in the Spirit Well on Route 209. Then you must
talk to 32 friends while you have 2 or more Nintendo DS systems connected
in the Sinnoh Underground. After doing this, you can find Spiritomb at the
Spirit Well. This sidequest can be attempted as many times as you wish.
However, you need to talk to 32 friends every time. Also, you can use the
same friend over and over, but you must exit and re-enter the Underground
every time for it to count.

----------------
[#446] Munchlax
----------------
Munchlax can only be found by putting honey on a brown tree and waiting 12
hours. The tree in Valley Windworks and the tree to the south-east of
Eternia Forest seem to have higher encounter rates.

***************
* Legendaries *
*************************************************************************
* What makes a Pokemon be considered "legendary"? That's quite easy to *
* answer. Any Pokemon that is spoken of in a myth or legend in-game is *
* a legendary Pokemon. They usually involve long complicated processes *
* to catch them, and are usually very powerful and hard to tame. This *
* section will explain how to obtain those who a believed to be myths. *
*************************************************************************

and find Heatran where the Magma Rock was.

----------------
[#486] Regigigas
----------------
To find Regigigas, you must tranfer the 3 Regis from the GBA games. Once

you need to have the three regis in your team.

----------------
[#487] Giratina

Turnback Cave. It can be found east of Route 214. At the end of the cave,
you will find Giratina.

******************
* Pokemon Ranger *
*************************************************************************
* One of the few DS games whos novelties were actually used quite well. *
* The spinoff game "Pokemon Ranger" had enjoyable gameplay and a decent *
* story to boot. Once you beat the game you were given the ability to *
* enter in a code to take part in a secret event. By completing this *
* event, you will unlock the little blue secret called.....Manaphy! *
*************************************************************************

----------------
[#489] Phione
----------------
To obtain Phione, all you need to do is breed Manaphy and hatch the egg that
is produced. Inside the egg will be Phione.

----------------

you will be able to transfer an egg to Diamond & Pearl. You can find the egg
at any Pokemart (A man in green will have it). Hatch the egg to get Manaphy.

*******************
* Nintendo Events *
*************************************************************************
* Ah, the eternally hated "Nintendo Events". For some reason Nintendo *
* thought it would be funny to force fans to drive hundreds of miles to *
* obtain a special item that would allow them to obtain a single rare *
* Pokemon. What would drive them to deprive fans of getting the Pokemon *
* through in-game methods? One word...MONEY.                            *
*************************************************************************

----------------
[#488] Cresselia
----------------
After obtaining the National Dex, if you talk to the family in the house
above the sailor by the boat in Canalave Town, they will tell you about an
area called Full Moon Island. Talk to the Sailor and he will take you there.
On the island you will find Cresselia. Talk to it and it will fly off. It can
then be found randomly in grassy patches on the map. You can check its current
location in the Poketch.

----------------
[#491] Darkrai
----------------
Nintendo will release the item Membership Pass at an event. Once you obtain
this item, go to Canalave City and you will be able to access the motel that
was previously locked. Spend the night at the motel and you will wake up on
New Moon Island. You will find Darkrai at the back of the island. After
catching or beating him, you will wake up and leave the motel.

----------------
[#492] Shaymin

VI. Pal Park
===============================================================================
The Pal Park can be accessed on Route 221 after you've obtained the National
Pokedex. It allows you to transfer the Pokemon you've caught in R/S/E/FR/LG to
your current game. However, you can only use game cartridges of the same
language and region to transfer.

Put the cartridge in Slot-2 of your DS and start up Diamond/Pearl. Now go to
the Pal Park on Route 221, talk to the Park Ranger and choose 6 Pokemon from
your boxes. He will give you some special Poke Balls (Called "Park Balls") to
capture them with. Thats right, you must recatch your old Pokemon. Not to worry
though, as these balls have a 100% capture rate and your Pokemon will not run
once you encounter it. So now you need to go and find the Pokemon! There are
many different areas to search, but the Pokemon will usually be in the area
which fits its elemental type best. Some of the Pokemon are quite hard to find,
so it may be quite frustrating. Once you finally encounter the Pokemon, all you
have to do is throw the Park Ball to capture it. They will be at the exact same
level and will have the same stats, moves, EVs/IVs and hold item. They will
also be "Shiny" if you transferred a shiny Pokemon. If you catch all of your
Pokemon within a certain time limit, the Pal Park ranger will give you a
special berry as a congratulations.

VII. Frequently Asked Questions
===============================================================================

Q: How many Pokemon are in Diamond & Pearl?
A: There are 493 total Pokemon in the game. However, only 445 can be caught
between the two games. The other 48 must be transferred through Pal Park.

Q: Which version is better, Diamond or Pearl?
A: It all comes down to choice. The only difference is the exclusive Pokemon,
so take a look at the lists I provide and choose for yourself. Personally, I
like Diamond better as it has Scyther, Tyranitar and Murkrow.

Q: Is there a way to clone Pokemon/Items in the game?
A: There was in the early Japanese releases, but Nintendo fixed it. There has
recently been a glitch found that allows Pokemon and their held items to be
cloned. It involves using the GTS.

Q: I heard that if you beat the Elite Four ten times, fly to Lake Valor and
run around for 20 minutes, you will encounter the Pokemon Pikablu!
A: There is no Pikablu. The rumor of Pikablu was started when images of Marill
first surface on the internet before Gold & Silver's release. If you want to
catch a Marill, then visit the Great Marsh.

Q: I got the Pokedex and saw my mom, but I still can't leave Sandgem Town!
A: You need to visit your rival's house first. Then visit your mom.

Q: Where do I find the Pokemon _____ at?
A: This is not a Pokemon location guide, so I can't answer that question. Also
please do not email me with these questions either.

Q: What is a "shiney" Pokemon?
A: Every Pokemon has a alternated colored version that can be found. The chance
of encountering a shiney is 1/8192. When they are send out in battle, they
will sparkle for a few seconds. Thus the term "shiney".

Q: I found an error in your FAQ, can I email you about it?
A: I'm afraid not. This is the final version and I've removed my email due to
all the damn gaming questions I kept getting.

Q: Pokemon sucks, and only schoolgirls play it!
A: That's not a question...but ok. It seems to me like you need to stop hanging
out with the "cool" crowd, and start making your own unbiased decisions.

Q: In the anime, Ash managed to catch...*snip*
A: The anime doesn't follow the games so I can't answer that. Also, 4kids cuts
out so much that sometimes things don't make sense.

Q: So I heRd u lEik mudkIpz!11
A: Mudkips?! I LOOOOVVVVVEEE MUDKIPS! ^_^

Q: You made up all these questions, didn't you?
A: Errr, maybe...

  XI. CREDITS
===============================================================================

For their excellent Pokedex. It made finding specific Pokemon's numbers much
easier. They also have a bunch of other great info so check them out!

-Adults Do Bong
If you understand the reference, then you know what board I'm talking about.
Thanks to all the pogeymans players in our community!

-Al Gore
For creating the internet. Hats off to you good sir!

-Myself
For making the excellent ASCII at the beggining of the guide. Also for spending
8 hours writing this FAQ and then revising it because it wouldn't be accepted.
Although, it's not like I really had anything better to do...

-CJayC
For creating and maintaining the best videogame site on the internet. If there
was no GameFAQs, I probably wouldn't have bothered to write this guide.

-Nathan Hutchinson
For correcting me on several errors and telling me about some of the fossils.

-Suyang Li
For telling me that Munchlax can also be found on the tree to the south east of
the area outside of Eternia Forest.

-Sean Lawrence
For noticing that the "Cave of Doubt" is called "Wayward Cave" in the US
version.

-Shadowater
For correcting me on the fact that it is possible to complete the National Dex
before you beat the Elite Four.

-Jonathan Nahmias
For telling me that it is possible to catch Drifloon all day on Friday.

-Hunter McCowen
For correcting me on my description of the Darkrai event.

-Jquizkid2
For correcting me on an error in the Pal Park section. Pokemon must be in their
boxes, not in the party.

-Jason Golden
For reminding me about the normal pokemon you can encounter in Pokemon Mansion.

-Chris Shveyda
For correcting me about the way to encounter Drifloon.

-SEAN4SEAN
For telling me the location of Omanyte & Kabuto.

-Hasterz
For telling me that certain events require beating the Champion and obtaining
the National Dex before they can be activated.

-ALLANLA2000
For bringing a spelling error to my attention. There is no Igglypuff.

-Matt Gourneau
For telling me about the GTS cheat.

-Kenji Nomura
For pointing out that the Underground uses DS to DS communication, not WiFi.

-alfinchkid
For leading me to do more research on Munchlax. It turns out he can be found on
any Honey Tree.

-Caleb Burke
For correcting me on the Regigigas sidequest. You need the three Regis in your
team to catch it.
