1. About Nanostray
------------------------

Nanostray is the first game for the Nintendo DS developed by german
studio Shin'En. The game was released early in the Nintendo DS'
lifespan, and revieved mixed reviews. When breaking everything
else apart, and focusing only on the game itself as shooter, Nanostray
is a very impressive game. It looks awesome, and requires quite some skill
in order to master. It's not as death-hard as many arcade-shooters, but
it doesn't have to be in order to succeed. Go get it now.

------------------------
3.1 Mitsurin Jungle Boss
------------------------

this boss is very easy if you know what to do, but can provide quite
a challenge for people that are unfamiliar with Nanostray. The first
time I tried it, I failed miserably. Oh, and I consider myself to be
pretty good at games like Psikyo's 1945. Well, here is a good
strategy:

When the battle has started, select your Side-Shot weapon, and move
to the right side of the screen. Do not place yourself at the bottom
at the screen, but be at the same height as the turrets themselves.
Use Sub Weapon function to shoot at the rightmost turret until it
has been destroyed. this should not take very long. Now, a blue coin
will appear, so make sure you collect it in order to fill up your
Super Meter. Move to the right again, and once again, shoot at the
remaining turret using the Sub Function. this turret will also drop
a blue coin, so make sure you pick it up. Now, the battle will get a
little harder.

Select the Pulse Weapon. As earlier, the area you should place
yourself in is at one of the sides. Don't go too low, as you might
get hit by the shots coming from the boss. Also, be careful that you
really are place as far out to one of the sides as possible - the
boss has two mechanical arms that will hit you if you aren't
positioned correctly. Well, once the boss does a roll, move to the
middle of the screen and fire at its head using the Sub Weapon. Be
quick and return to the side after you've done some damage. If the
boss turns, and starts facing one of the sides, focus on what you're
doing and dodge any shots coming towards you and then go all the way
to the side the boss is facing. Place yourself as low as possible,
if you dont want to get hit. The boss will soon blow up, just keep
your head cool.

Hint: For some extra action, you might want to try flying close to
the head of the boss once it does a roll. When you're close enough,
drop a Smart Bomb. You have to be very quick to do this, but the boss
will go down even faster!

------------------------
3.2 Mokuzu Depths Boss
------------------------

this boss is actually much easier to defeat than the first one. Most
people should be able to do it in one or two tries.

this boss has two points that you need to blow up. One at the top of
the boss, and one on its back. First, select the Lightening Weapon,
and lock on to the top target. Shoot at it while going closer, and
then drop two Smart Bombs to blow the top target up. The battle will
be put on hold for two seconds or so.

Now, select the Side Shot Weapon, and place yourself to the far right,
at middle height of the screen. The boss will start shooting several
beams at you, but you should be able to dodge partly by staying at
middle height to the far right, and partly by moving slightly if a
stream of shots gets too close. Well, once you see an opening, fly to
the top of the screen, and over to the left side of the boss. Follow
the same height as the target, and use the Sub Weapon to blow it up.
The boss is now down. Congratulations, my aspiring pilot

------------------------
3.3 Sunahara Desert Boss
------------------------

Select the Lightening Weapon. As usual, the Sub Weapon is a nice
choice. First, go to the right side of the screen, and get a view
of exactly where the boss fires. Now, place yourself as close as
possible to the right side of the shots, but make sure you don't
place yourself too close so that you'll get hit the next time the
boss fires. Now, you should be close enough to hit the boss using
the Lightening Sub Weapon. When the boss decides to move a
little, go to the bottom left side of the screen, while firing
using the Lightening Weapons main function. The boss won't take
much of this before going into second stage of the battle. When
he does, you need to be at the far left or at the far right side
of the screen.

Now, before the boss starts shooting, lock your Lightening
Weapon's main function on to the boss, and then go to the far
right, and as low as possible. Just keep the A-button pressed and
the boss will take lots of damage. The boss will eventually
active a HUGE laser beam, and shoot with it from one of the
sides, and towards the other side. If you're hit by this laser
once, you'll blow up. Well, if the laser starts from the right,
place yourself at the left side, and if it starts from the left,
place yourself at the right side of the screen. Keep shooting at
the boss using Lightening Weapon, but when the huge laser gets
too close, you'll have to get close to the turret on your side,
so fly close to it - even if it means being hit once - you won't
die. Stay here for a little while, as you'll crash into the boss
if you try to go back too fast. Keep on following this strategy
and the boss will be down pretty fast.

Hint: Smartbombs are very nice in the second stage, just before
the boss activates the huge laser.

------------------------
3.4 Hibashira Plains Boss
------------------------

Select the Lightening Weapon. Go close to the head of the boss, and
use all the Smartbombs you've got. When you're empty use the Secondary
Function of the Lightening Weapon. Just keep sliding to the left and
right in order to avoid the magma stones that fill the place. The boss
will soon start firing several beams, so go down to the left, and lock
the Main Function of the Lightening Weapon onto the boss. Fly between
two beams while shooting at the boss with the on-locked Lightening.
The boss will chase you to the left, so fly to the left side, then
upwards, and then all the way to the right again. Now comes the
hardest part. Go to the lower right side of the screen, while shooting
at the boss. Try to fly through one of the bigger openings between the
shots. this is hard, but very possible. One hit won't kill you, though.
The boss should be dead by now.

------------------------
3.5 Sekihi Belt Boss
------------------------

this one isn't as hard as he looks. He's fast - but not nail hard.
Just remember the part about the Smartbomb in the paragraph below.

Start by choosing either the Lightening Weapon or the Seeker. Place
your self in the bottom middle of the screen. Start shooting at the
center of the boss while sliding to the left and the right. The boss
will soon change to a harder rate of fire, so go to the lower right
side of the screen. Keep shooting, and place yourself between two
beams of fire. This is hard on the eyes, but easy to accomplish. The
next attack the boss might perform is the same as the last one, but
this time, you will have to place yourself closer to the middle of
the screen. As always, keep firing at the boss. Now, for the craziest
attack this boss has: Lots, and i mean LOTS of shots will fill the
WHOLE area. When this happens, dodge for a few seconds, and then drop
a Smartbomb, in order to take out all the shots. Well, keep doing all
this, and you shall be victorious!

------------------------
3.6 Sekai Outpost Boss
------------------------

The Sekai Boss is kinda like a turbine or a generator - I forgot
which, as my brain seems to be rottening away.

As you might see, there is something that looks like a mechanical eel
here. I find it comfortable to fly to the left of the part that fires
beams. It's not very hard to dodge the shots. Well, a good weapon
here is the Secondary Function of the Lightening Weapon, as on most
bosses. Start doing damage. Try to keep on the left side of the eel.
If you absolutely have to go the right side in order to survive, you
will have to fly around the boss, and return on the left side again.
When the boss is about half dead, the eel will disappear. When this
happens, the boss will start shooting lots of beams. If you are
flying in the bottom middle of the screen, dodging is more than
possible if you're careful. If the situation gets too hopeless after
all, use a Smartbomb. The boss should be down after a little while.

------------------------
3.7 chuuroh City Boss
------------------------

The Secondary Function of the Lightening Weapon is a good choice,
as always. Go very close to the center of the boss, and start
shooting. This will damage both the turrets on the boss, and by
staying close to the boss, you'll avoid the bullets he shoots.
When the boss does a roll, go to the bottom of the screen, and
use the Main Function of the Lightening. Just watch out where the
boss is "looking". If he looks at you, move to the other side of
the screen, as he'll try to headbutt you down. After a little
while, the boss will enter stage two of the battle, and drop
two blue coins, so collect one of them.

Lots of orange beams are fired at you. Use the Seeker to shoot
at the boss, while flying between the beams. A good technique
is to place yourself in the lower right corner of the screen.
this way, you won't have to move too much. When the boss starts
scanning the area with a green light, use a Smartbomb the
moment the light looks like its about to go away. Do all
this while shooting at the boss. The next attack is pretty
hard. The boss will shoot lots of small bullets all over
the screen, while diring black big bullets in the middle
of the screen. Dodge like crazy. If it gets too hard, use
a Smartbomb. The boss should soon be dead.

------------------------
3.8 Zenshoh Station
------------------------

Only one target on this one. First, stay in the middle bottom of
the screen. Select the Pulse Weapon, and wait for the boss to
open its shell. When he does, shoot at the opened shell using
the Secondary Function of the Pulse Weapon. Do this while dodging
the shots coming at you. If you've got good eyes, you can do it
without being hit once. Now, the boss will transform into a
robot's face.

Stay in the middle center of the screen, not
at the bottom as you usually do. Try to learn the pattern of
the red beams, and dodge as many as you can. Smartbombs are your
friend if it gets too hard. When the boss turns around, shoot at
it with any weapon you feel like. You can also go close to the
back of the head even when it's not turing and shoot at it using
Side Shot. this does not always succeed, though. The Secondary
Function of the Lightening Weapon is good when the boss has fully
turned around. Well, when the boss is down, you've completed
Nanostray. H

5. Credits and Thanks
------------------------

Well, this document was written by me, Eirik Mortensen, a warm
afternoon in usually cold Norway. Personally, I don't like the summer
very much, as I like it cold. Apart from myself (^^), I would like to
thank Shin'En for developing Nanostray, as well as the Irdion games
for the GBA. I would not like to thank them for "selling out" by
doing the game "Miss Spider Harvest Time Hop and Fly", instead of
giving us a sequel to Nanostray. Too bad guys, you better get back on
the track!

I would also like to thank GameFAQs for hosting the original document.
