Introduction It's been quite a while since I last wrote a guide for a RPG, and before anything else I must tell you that this guide is specially aimed at those players who can't read Japanese, and who can easily get stuck in certain parts of the game. I'll try to lead you across your adventure with helpful hints and interesting tips, but if you just don't know where to go next, quickly give a look to this guide's next section. Also, there are some tips that you should always have in mind, and I strongly suggest you keep all of these in mind while playing: - Save your game as often as possible. Every city allows you to save your game, but dungeons also contain several red spots which you can use to do that very same action. You never know when a more powerful enemy will be waiting for you, and if you lose you may want to restart your game from where you left off. So, be sure to save as soon as you see one of those important spots, in order to prevent future problems. - Just like in any other RPG, gaining levels improves your characters' stats, which also makes it easier for you to inflict pain in your enemies. So, if you just can't defeat a particular enemy, go fight some more random battles, gain some levels and try that very same battle a few minutes later - I can assure you that it will be a lot easier by then! - Although this guide contains information on the location of several items and treasure chests, I strongly suggest you fully explore the dungeons that cross your path, which will grant you a lot of helpful items and new equipment. Break everything you can, open every chest and you'll be getting yourself a lot of free items. - Each time you acquire a new piece of equipment, try to see which of your characters would most benefict from it. While some characters only tend to gain minor bonus from certain equipment, others may have their stats heavily raised, and effectively managing your characters ends up being a major way to assure your victory in most battles. - Once you see a city, try to visit it. You can usually rest there (in order to do so, pick the first option, fees may apply) or buy items (acessible by choosing the second option), and I believe that you should do it as often as possible. Resting fully heals your characters, and items offered by stores tend to vary as you progress further in the adventure, with better equipment appearing later in the game. So, try to buy better items and newer equipment as soon as those choices become available, since they really help you in more than one way. - In terms of items, try to keep as many HP and SP restoring items with you as possible. You can have up to 15 of each item, and that's a limit that you should really try to take advantage of. Apart from these basic items, it is also a good idea for you to buy items that revive dead characters. There are many other possibilities, depending on your own battle strategies, but having at least the stated items will be very helpful. - When it comes to money, try to get as much as you can. Defeat tons of enemies "just cause" and sell your unwanted items with that target in mind, since you will find extremely rare (and incredibly powerful...) items later in the game. Unfortunately, they are also extremely pricey, and by then you'll wish to have enough money for them, as they're really worth their price. - You can customize your party in any way you like, but constantly having KOS-MOS in there is generally a good idea. She is capable of learning two useful skills (one of those revives a dead character, while the other heals 50% of ALL your characters' HP at once), and I bet you'll find them as useful as I did. - In terms of moveset, be sure to remember that your characters will learn new moves and abilities as they progress in the adventure. So, be sure to update your moves once in a while, to a set-up that better fits your personal tastes and skills. - By completing battles with special moves, or attack from supporter characters, your party will receive a small experience bonus, which is always enjoyable. Try to do it as often as possible, and ending all boss battle with that kind of attack, for a extra experience boost. Provided you follow all these tips, your battles and adventures will be a lot easier. Now, if you're just stuck in a particular part of the game, or wondering where you should head next, keep on reading. 2~. Walkthrough There are a bunch of cutscenes, which look OK and all that, and you'll eventually be able to control your characters, which leads to the very first dungeon, and your first battles. 2.1~. Dungeon 1 (Green Building) Before proceeding, be aware that you can step outside and visit the red ship on the right. You don't need to do it, but doing so allows you to save your game or heal your characters for free, by pressing the very first option there available. Start by gaining a few levels if you want, using the red ship for healing purposes. When you're ready to proceed, go up, to the next room. Break all the rocks (this is something that you should do all the time, since those elements of the scenario often drop free items) and visit all the rooms available from this main hall, without forgetting to activate the machine on the upper right. In one of those rooms, you'll meet Kaguya. Once you've done all that, open the upper door (opening doors is generally done by facing them and pressing "A") and explore the big room, without forgetting to activate the machines on the left and on the right. When you're ready to proceed, take the door on the left side and go all the way up. You'll fight your very first boss, two red robots, which you can easily defeat by following your usual strategy. Once you've defeated them, a scene unfolds and, soon, you'll be taken to the red ship, the one I mentioned before. Press the last option and you'll be in the world map. 2.2~. World Map Head all the way up, to the right, and you'll see a city. Enter it, see the cutscene, buy whatever you want (the first option leads to an inn-like place, the second one takes you to the store), and then press the fifth (or second to last) option, followed by the last option, which makes you exit this location. Go up and you'll soon see a blue ship. Enter it to reach a new dungeon. 2.3~. Dungeon 2 (Blue Ship) There's a single path to follow here, so it won't be very hard. Open the doors as usual, and be sure that learn that climbing in this game is done by holding "A" and pressing the direction to which you want to move. When you reach a bigger room, ignore the blue crystals (you can't do anything about those yet) and make your way around, finally taking the door in the upper left. Climb the wall by the green wires and follow until you reach the upper right corner of the second area, where you'll be able to press a switch. Do it, and proceed to the right. Follow the only possible path until you reach a room which contains several consoles. Keep on interacting with the left one, and picking the upper option, until you're attacked. Interact with the blue one - on the right - if you want, and proceed by the path on the right until you reach another console. After activating this one, you'll face your second boss battle, against three members of the Gnosis species. If you heal by using items or Haken/Kaguya's abilities, you'll have an easier time facing them. As for an offensive strategy, simply focus on one of the monsters at a time and attack it as usual. After the battle head back to town, and be sure to recall that by clicking the button (you know, the one you pressed a few minutes before, after all the climbing?) you activated the elevator - now, you can stand on its middle and press "A" to be taken to the lower floor, which is certainly useful. 2.4~. World Map Buy all the items you want and then travel to the northwestern corner of this continent. Stand on the leftmost area of the small peninsula and you will see a strange circle portal. Facing it, press "A", pick the upper option and you'll be taken to a whole new area. Follow the only possible path until you reach some cherry trees. To the right, you can find a tomb-like places. Interacting with it and pressing the second option awards you an item. However, if you press the first option, you'll be put into a battle, which awards you another item. This enemy is stronger than your current party, and it may be a good idea to face it only when your level is higher. That's really up to you, though, and in order to continue your adventure you must proceed to the left, by taking the stony path, which leads to a new town. After all the conversations are over, press the last option and head all the way up. After the cutscene, exit this area and go back to the world map. Take the upper right path until you see some red trees, and then take the path to the right, where you'll soon see a strange mountain placed in the middle of the water. Go there. 2.5~. Dungeon 3 (Dark Mountain) Here, be sure to take advantage of the statue placed slightly to the upper right of the save point, which will fully restore the life of your characters as many times as you want. Use it to gain some more levels, which will be very useful in the future. When you're ready to proceed, take the upper right door. Explore this hall (it contains several items) before and follow the path until you reach a big room. There, start by taking the lower door, since it opens a hole to the very first room (you know, the one with the healing statue). Next, take the door on the left and Suzuka will join your party. To proceed, move to the upper part of the room and you'll fight a new boss. I'm not really sure of her name, and this is possibly your first hard battle, unless you know what to do. First, start by taking care of the two monsters by means of quick combos with all your characters. When they're both down, focus all your attacks in the main boss, healing with Kaguya's abilities or some of your favourite items. If your yellow gauge fills, which is very probable here, be sure to use one of your character's special moves, since doing so will heavily damage your enemy. Provided you're properly healing, the enemy will soon go down, and after the battle you should exit this dungeon. 2.6~. World Map Go back to the place with the red (or are they orange? Hum...) trees, and take the path to the left side, onto a new zone of this continent. Follow the only possible path until you see a whole new town, which you should enter. After the cutscene, press the fourth option and exit town as you'd usually do. Take the strange circle portal, placed to the left, onto a whole new area. Follow the only possible path (ignore the green pillar, it's not important right now) past the mountains and turn left to the next town. After a (longer) cutscene, press the last option and go up, where you'll find yet another dungeon. 2.7~. Dungeon 4 (Palace) Start by destroying the three red statues. Next, approach each of the other four statues by its handler, hold "Y" and press the direction in which the statue is. Once you've completed this action to all four statues, board the platform on the right side of the room and interact with the statue, picking the upper option to destroy it. The door in the upper side of this room will open. Take it onto the next area and you'll see several red statues. You don't have to destroy them all, but I suggest you do so, since the battles that unfold tend to give a lot of experience points. If you don't want to do it, simply destroy the statue in front of the stairs and the one near the upper right corner. No matter what your decision is, when you're near the green statue (which is placed near the upper right corner) be extremely careful, since destroying that particular statue leads to a boss battle. When you are ready to face such battle, destroy the stated statue and you'll have to fight Kyon, along with two foes. Like in the previous boss battle, your best bet is to start by eliminating both minor enemies before focusing on the main boss, but be very careful with the small witch. Despite her friendly look, this boss can use an attack which hits three of your characters for a lot of damage, and that's something you must be specially careful with - if she uses it, you may consider healing all your characters by using Kaguya's best healing skill, which fully heals your entire party, despite its high CP cost. Try to perform longer combos and this battle will end up being a lot easier. If you just can't win, I must suggest you to go gain a few more levels, since this battle is mostly setting the standard for future bosses. Once you've defeated this enemy, you'll see a small crack in the floor, in front of your party. Stop on it and you'll fall down a hole. Take the only possible path by the platform on the right, eventually you'll reach a bigger room. Pay a look to the green statues in the lower right corner and you'll get into two battles. Take the path in the middle of the two groups or statues and follow to the left, grabbing a treasure chest and entering the door nearby, where you'll fight Reiji and Xiaomu at the same time (you may even recognise them from a certain other game...). Start by taking care of Xiaomu, since she is obviously weaker, and follow by focusing all your attacks on Reiji. If you've taken my previous suggestion and gained a few levels before venturing further into this dungeon, you probably won't have much trouble with this battle. Otherwise, I have to re-suggest that you go and get some more experience. After this battle, both Reiji and Xiaomu join your party, and you will finally be able to use support commands, yey! To the right, you'll see some frozen blocks. Push the leftmost one down. As for the rightmost one, push it down, left and down. To end this small puzzle, remove all the rocks near the hole on the floor and push the final block down. Head back to the floor below, step on the icy floor and use the new blocks to pass to the left side. Take the upper platform to the left and follow the only possible path until you reach Kaldia. Obviously, this encounter leads to yet another boss battle. Start by taking care of the two minor enemies and then focus your attacks on the main boss herself, which won't pose you much trouble if you're constantly healing your characters, so that her longest combos never manage to kill, or harshly damage, the members of your party. After the battle, head back to the last town. 2.8~. World Map After the scene that takes place in that town, pick the fifth option and follow the path to the lower right, where you'll see yet another dungeon, which you should interact with by pressing "A", as usual. Following such action will allow you to enter the dungeon, as you may expect. 2.9~. Dungeon 5 (Spikey Place) Follow the path until you reach the save point, and turn down. Avoid all the purple puddles (those tiles damage your characters) and explore the entire hall, which has a lot of free items. Take the door in the middle and get all the items hidden behind rocks, before heading to the stairs seen in the upper part of the room. Once you do that, you'll face a hard boss battle, and so I strongly suggest you heal your characters before doing so. Apart from Anne and Bonny, the main bosses, this battle also contains two other enemies. As usual, I suggest that you start by defeating those two, before aiming your attacks at the main enemies. Now, each of those two folks is equally powerful, but Bonny also has an attack that seems to cause extra damage, and that ends up being a good reason to start by taking him down. Anne is slightly stronger, and once in a while she may even damage three of your characters for a more-than-fair chunk of your character's HP, but by herself she won't pose you much trouble, just keep on healing your characters and striking with long combos - switching characters and using supporters as often as possible - and she won't last for very long. After the battle is over, move the middle pillar all the way up, the left one all the way down and the rightmost one down. Proceed to the right and follow the only path until you fight yet another boss battle, this time against Phantom. You know what I'm about to say, right? Well, you can always head back to the last town and fully heal your characters, which can be a very good idea, but you may also go and face this battle right away. Start by taking care of the two minor enemies before aiming at the main enemy, whose combos are really powerful. Counter with some long combos of your own, using special moves whenever possible, and if you keep on properly healing your characters the enemy will eventually go down. Be sure to remember that higher levels also allow you to cause more damage to the enemy, and that's something that you should try to do if you just can't seem to win this battle. After defeating this powerful enemy, take the only possible path outside and you'll find yourself in yet another new part of the world map. 2.10~. World Map Follow the yellow brick to a fortress, which you can't enter yet. Instead, take the path down and to the right, past a small bridge. You'll see a new circle portal, but you can't take it just yet. Grab a few new items, rest if you need to, and the exit town. Head back to the fortress you've seen a few seconds ago and you'll now be able to enter it. 2.11~. Dungeon 6 (Fortress) Start by taking the path on the left, which you should follow (come on, do it, there's no way you'll get lost!) until you fight a boss battle against Henne. She can hit all your characters for some damage, but if you follow the usual pattern, first taking of the two random enemies before focusing on the main boss, you won't have any trouble here. However, since she appears to be slightly resistant to ground attacks, it is a good idea to try to keep her in the air for as long as you can, increase the damage you cause in the process. If you're at a fair level, this battle won't take that long, since she's way easier than the bosses you fought just a few minutes ago. Press the button on the wall to the left and go back to the main hall, the one where you just saw the spikes going down. Press the button on the left and enter the newly-opened door. Go all the way up and you'll get to fight Saya, along with two minor monsters. Take care of those two before focusing on the main enemy, and you'll soon notice that Saya is actually capable of unleashing an interesting, and certainly very damaging, combo attack. Another of her moves is capable of hitting three of your party members for some damage, but that one isn't that huge. Instead, be sure to heal characters who are hit by her entire combo attack (you'll know she performed it because her full figure, breasts bouncing and all, is seen on screen) or they may soon go down. Apart from that detail, keep on striking with your best combos, juggling her in the air, and you know what. Proceed by heading to the room on the upper right and you'll fight one of Saya's folks. He, just like the two monsters accompanying him, isn't too tough, he'll go down without much effort. Apart from his poison attacks, which helps depleting your characters' HP, there's nothing notable about him. Go down, press the switch and follow by exploring all the corners of this room. KOS-MOS will join your party, but you must also gather all the items in the chests, since they play an important role in the game. After getting the contents of the four chests, go back to the place where you fought Saya and take the upper left exit. There, you'll get to fight yet another of Saya's folks. Just like his friend, his only important ability relies on poisoning members of your party, but not even that ends up being a big problem. Win the battle, press the switches as before and explore the four corners of the room, the same as you did a few minutes ago. When you're ready to proceed, go back to the lower part of the room where you fought Saya. You'll see four pillars surrounding an empty platform, interact with the four of them from their front area and pick the upper choice in order to insert one of the key items (remember the items I just told you to gather? This is the place where you'll be inputting them) on its proper slot. When all pillars are filled, take the elevator (press "A" in the middle of it, and choose the top option) and you will go to a whole new area. In the next room, you'll see two statues in each side of the room - yellow and red on the left, green and yellow on the right. Go left, interact with the yellow statue and pick the third option. Next, interact with the red statue and pick the second option, before interacting with the painting in the middle three times, and picking the last option. Move to the right side of the room, interact with the green statue and pick the second option. Approach the yellow statue and press the second choice, before interacting with the painting nearby, and picking the last option yet again. Doing so will open a door, which you should obviously cross. In the next part of this room, you'll see yet another two statues in each side of the room. On the left, approach the red statue and pick the second option, before picking the third option on the green statue and interacting with the painting, picking the last option. On the right side, approach the first (i.e. leftmost) statue and pick the third option. Talk to the mirror, select the last option and the door will open, leading to a path that you should follow to a new boss battle. Start by getting rid of the three minor enemies, and then focus on the main boss. She has a powerful combo, where she throws a giant exploding ball at you, but that's mostly it, since the effect of the move which hits three of your characters can be fixed by means of Kaguya's best healing ability, i.e. the one that costs 80 SP. After defeating this enemy, she'll award you an item which allows you to break the blue crystals that you've been seeing for a while, which is obviously useful. If that just wasn't enough for you, the character you just defeated will also sell some rare items for a limited amount of time, and you might want to give them a real look. The one costing "25000" may sound interesting for a few hours of play, but be aware that later in your adventure you'll find an even better acessory, and you may also want to store some money for that one. Buy everything you want and when you're ready to proceed, exit this dungeon and you'll find yourself in the usual world map. 2.12~. World Map Go down and all to the left, until you reach a massive gate. Interact with it and you'll see a cutscene. Now, you're finally able to use the circle portal, which you should instantly do, since you'll be taken to another location, one that you've already seen before. When you reach the "new" location, head all the way down and you'll be taken to the red ship from before. Heal and save your game if you want, and when you're ready to proceed be sure to visit the previously-seen dungeon placed to the left of this place, the green building from before. 2.13~. Dungeon 1 (Green Building) Revisited Go all the way back, to the place where you fought your very first boss, and you'll have to fight Abend, along with two minor enemies. I suggest you gain a few more levels before attempting to face this battle, but as usual the final decision is really up to you. Once you've taken care of the two minor enemies, Abend becomes a sitting duck. Well, a big sitting duck, which can regen its own HP and some amazing firepower, but still a sitting duck. Provided you use Kaguya for healing, the battle will go fine, UNLESS his combos, or even his special attack, causes just too much damage to your characters, a case in which you should really go get some extra levels. Try to attack with your best moves, joined in quick aerial combos for best results. The usage of special moves, whenever they become available, is also a great aid. After the battle, enter the door at the top and explore the area nearby, before taking the upper exit. The next one is a small area, but it also contains a lot of free items, and you should try to gather them all, for obvious reasons. In order to proceed, there's yet another door in the upper part of the room. Examine all the pods in the next room and try to leave, which leads to a sequence where you'll have to fight Gespenst a second time, along with Kaldia. The main enemy is basically the very same opponent you fought a few hours before, except that he is stronger by now, and has a lot more HP than he used to, and the same goes for his female companion. Start by taking her down and then focus on Phantom himself, and provided you can cause a lot of damage in a timely manner you won't have any trouble with this particular battle. Upon the end of the battle, this mech will join your party. Well, sort of, you can ONLY summon him, it's not like you can put him in your actual party or anything, which is kinda disappointing. 2.14~. World Map When you're finally able to control your characters once again, take the very same portal you took the last time you were in this world, the one from the upper left corner of this continent. Get back to the third dungeon, that one "island" placed in the middle of the sea, and you will proceed in your adventure. 2.15~. Dungeon 3 (Dark Mountain) Revisited Do you remember the group of six crystals placed in this cave, in the same room where you had to fight a boss? well, that's where you need to go to, that exact same place with the six crystals. So, take the "door" your created before, the one going up from the very first room, and go up to find these crystals. Get on top of the strange platform seen in the middle of all the six crystals and interact with it, which will lead to a sequence where the six crystals shine, one at a time. I really can't help you with this one since the sequence is fully random, but if you just can't do it I strongly suggest you write one of your sequences down before attempting it, or something like that. If you inputted the right sequence, a new treasure chest will appear in the middle of the room - if not, well, interact with the platform once more and you'll see a different sequence, which you should repeat as before. After completing this part, take the stairs on the upper part of the room and destroy all the crystals blocking the door. Follow by the new path, interacting with the stone monster's mouth to open a door, and proceed via that path until you fight a boss battle against Nacht. He may deal a lot of damage if you try to face this battle unprepared, and so I suggest that you get some more levels (remember, the room in the entrance of this whole dungeon is perfect for training) before attempting this battle. Then, and as usual, start by taking care of the two minor enemies. Later, focus all your attacks in the actual boss, but be very careful with the move where he strikes three of your characters, since that's quite a powerful one and it may actually take more than two of your characters down at once - in order to avoid such problem, try to keep all your characters' HP in top condition. You should be also aware that it is slightly hard to juggle this particular enemy, since he is really big and seems to weight quite a lot. Instead, try to attack with as many hits from a particular character as possible, then use one of the supporters and, while that other character is doing his thing, try to quickly switch to a whole new party member, with whom you must try to continue the combo. It may take a while to master, but I'm sure that if you made it this far, you'll sooner or later manage to defeat this enemy. If not, well, go back and get some more levels, that seems to solve quite a few problems in this game. Upon defeating this boss, I strongly suggest you head back to this dungeon's very first room and fully heal all your characters, you'll need it in just a few moments. Also, if you haven't been updating your characters' movesets, this is actually a perfect opportunity to do that sort of thing. When you're ready to proceed, keep on following this long room and, soon, you'll fight yet another boss battle, this time against two major characters at once. If that just wasn't bad enough, you'll need to have Suzuka in your party for this one, and you probably haven't been using her enough, have you? Anyway, in terms of a battle strategy, as usual I suggest you start by taking down the two minor enemies, before focusing your attacks on Saya, since she is probably more dangerous than her direct comrade. Both those enemies can use a powerful attack that damages up to three of your characters, and whenever they attempt that sort of technique I suggest you fully heal your characters by means of Kaguya's top healing skill (quite a good one, hum?). In terms of attacking, using everything you've learned so far is an extremely good idea, since this pair is really powerful. As I mentioned before, you may also want to gain a few more levels before attempting to fight these folks, since they're actually quite powerful, and may put you into a lot of trouble if you're not strong enough, or even if you haven't been properly updating your equipment. When all enemies are down, proceed to the left and interact with the blinking light. As usual, press the upper option and board the platform, before following the only available path. It's not like you will get lost here or anything, so you should just keep on going and eventually, after breaking one of those blue crystals, you'll be able to open a shortcut to this dungeon's very first area. Heal your characters at the usual spot, SAVE YOUR GAME and try to leave this dungeon, only to be stopped by yet another boss battle. As before, start by taking down the three weaker enemies before focusing your attacks on the main boss. If you have been following all my instructions, this will be an easy battle, which you can win without much effort, despite the probable lack of major items that you are currently suffering from. After winning, restore your life at the usual place (remember the healing statue? Come on, it's just a few meters away from you!) and step outside. 2.16~. World Map Head to this region's starting point and take the circle portal to the first region. Make your way back to the red ship, which leads to a short conversation sequence. When you're ready to proceed, pick the fourth option and you'll be taken to a new area of a familiar place. When it becomes possible, exit the red ship and make your way to the left side of this area, where you'll see a small pier. After the sequence, go up until you see a giant rock cat moving. Ignore the Nazca lines seen in the upper part of the screen (WTF? I wonder how they got there...) and restock your supplies in some place you like. Adjust your movesets to something that better fits your current needs and then head back to the red ship. Before proceeding, I gotta tell you that once you do the follow step, you won't be able to get back to the world map for a while, and so you may want to get yet some more levels on your characters before doing so. When you feel ready to proceed, press the first option to heal your characters, followed by the fourth one to advance to the actual dungeon. 2.17~. Dungeon 7 (Giant Cat) The path here is very straight forward, and I doubt you'll need any help with that. You can destroy the golden vases to gain some items, and that's a simple action that you may want to do as often as possible. When you reach a room with three possible paths, start by exploring the one to your right, before taking the one on the left. Follow the only available path and you will soon fight a boss battle. As usual, start by taking care of the two minor enemies, before focusing on the wolf-like enemy. Such boss is a lot stronger than his female companion, and that's the main reason on why you should try to get rid of him as quickly as possible. Once you've defeated him, the girl goes down without much effort, but you shouldn't forget to properly heal your characters at all times, since these enemies have attacks that can hit up to three of your characters for quite some damage. Another day, another battle, or so it seems... you can then proceed to the right, past the save point (you may want to save here, too) and you'll fight another boss battle very soon. As you've probably done a thousand times by now, start by getting rid of the two minor enemies, before focusing your attacks on the main bosses. Katze, the cat-like figure, seems to be slightly stronger than Ezel, and that's the reason on why you should try to take him out last, so that you have even less enemies attacking your party most of the time. Use your special attacks as soon as you get the chance to do so and you'll have an even easier time with these enemies. Overall, the battle may take quite a while, since Katze has A LOT of HP, but but if you keep on constantly healing your characters I doubt you'll have much trouble with the enemy party. Before proceeding by the upper stairs, grab the content of all the golden vases. A conversation will unfold. 2.18~. World Map Now, this giant cat works like a town. You can rest there, save, or buy items like you'd do somewhere else. When you're ready to proceed, press the fifth option and you'll be taken to yet another new dungeon. 2.19~. Dungeon 8 (Pyramid) Save, if you need to, and take the stairs down. Follow the only possible path, past the save point and up the stairs. You'll see six orbs entering six different coffins, four white orbs, a red one and a blue one. Take the upper left and upper right exits to reach two places where you'll be able to push some pillars down the hole. Now, if you noticed which coffins the red and blue orbs entered, push that exact same pillar. Otherwise, you can just go and push them all down the holes, which means that you'll have to face four extra random battles. It's up to you - personally, I decided to push them all down the holes, just to gather some extra experience. Once you've completed this task, the big door in the middle of the room will open, and you should (try to) cross it. You'll have to fight Kyon, against whom you should apply the usual strategy - start by taking care of the two minor enemies, before focusing all your best attacks on the little witch herself. Apart from the attack where she strikes several of your party members, she isn't too tough and she'll go down in a fairly easy way. Not even her massive combo ends up being that dangerous, which is almost pityful. Proceed by the new path, cross the special platforms only when they're not in fire (or else you'll be damaged) and, soon, you'll see two points where the snake's eyes are shinning. Take the rightmost one, hit the wall in the point located between the two snakes and gather the treasure chest. Next, do the same on the snakes on the left, proceeding until you fight another boss battle, this time against Henne. She is slightly stronger than her predecessor, but I doubt you'll be put into any trouble, provided you heal your characters when needed. In order to proceed, attack the space between the two snakes and follow that new path. The path on the left leads to a single treasure chest, take the one on the right to reach a "new" area. There are several blocks that you should push in here, do it and try to advance to the upper left corner of this room, where some stairs will allow you to proceed. Be aware that this room also allows you to easily head back to the giant cat, an opportunity that you should surely take if you need to heal all your characters, and you probably do. Anyway, by taking the upper left exit to this room, you'll soon fight another boss, T-elos. Her attacks are extremely damaging, and she probably has the most HP you've seen so far, which makes her a big problem. If you just can't win this battle, go back to this previous dungeon and get a few level ups before attempting this battle again, because it IS supposed to be an hard one. Heal each time she uses the attack that strikes three of you characters, and heal whoever is struck by the opponent's long combo, i.e. not the one where she shoots the person on the ground, but the one where she continues past that. Sooner or later, the enemy will go down, and when that happens you should make your way back to the outside. 2.20~. World Map After the cutscene, you might want to replenish your items and rest for a bit. When you're ready to proceed, head to the world map, which you can do by pressing the last option, and take the path to the left, to the pier you've visited before. Doing so will allow you to board the ship, where you can also rest and buy new items. To continue, press the fifth option and you'll be taken to a new dungeon. 2.21~. Dungeon 9 (Underwater) First of all, be sure to break any pieces of blue crystal that cross your path, since they may contain items. Having that in mind, take the path to the left and follow until you reach a larger room, also containing a save point. Go down the stairs and to the lower left, around the hole and up on the green herbs. Follow them up to the end, drop on the rightmost herb and you'll see a puzzle involving several chuncks of blue crystal and a big block. From the group of four blue crystals, destroy the lower right one, before destroying the crystal stuck behind the block. Next, destroy the upper right block. Follow by the new path and destroy the blue crystal placed on the left. Take the rightmost herb up and interact with the green "ball" to release a new herb. Take it down and head all to the left, past the block you placed a few moments ago, and down. Lower your position by taking the herb and you'll reach the next area of this dungeon. Continue going right and you'll face a boss battle. Just like in your previous confrontation against them, it is a good idea to start by eliminating the two weaker enemies, before focusing all your attacks on Bonny, the merman. By herself, Anna won't be much of a problem, but you still need to be careful with the attack where she hits up to three members of your party. If you're healing everyone, you'll be just fine with it. The battle isn't that hard, either, but I strongly suggest you head back to the ship and fully heal your characters after defeating these enemies, since a more difficult battle lies ahead. Continue to the right and you'll have to fight Nacht and Abend at the same time. Start by focusing all your attacks on Nacht, since he tends to attack your entire party at the same time quite often, which obviously causes enormous problems. So, continue striking it until he goes down, mostly ignoring the enemy placed near him. When Nacht goes down, repeat that very same strategy for Abend, but start using your character's abilities (you need some help with it? There's a chart in the lower section of this guide!) in the way that better fits your needs. Since both these enemies are very powerful, your ability to successfully complete this battle also relies on the direct strenght of your characters, and if you just can't seem to win it, I'll have to repeat what I've mentioned tons of times by now - get more levels, your characters will be stronger and you'll really benefit from it! When you complete this battle, both Nacht and Abend join will join your party. Unfortunately, you can't use them as actual characters - instead, each time you use the "SRW" supporter, one of three robots will be randomly called. Sometimes this is useful, but others it ends up being extremely upsetting, since you'll never know what to expect. Anyway, proceed by going up (or go back and heal, it's up to you, but healing is possibly a much better choice) and you'll have to fight yet another boss, who is conveniently called "???". This mysterious enemy is extremely powerful, and the easiest way to defeat him is by using lots of items that fill your F.GAUGE, i.e. the yellow gauge seen in the lower left corner of the screen. Once the bar is filled, by any means you can, unleash one of your characters special move by pressing "Y" (you may want to do with your strongest striker, for obvious reasons). While waiting for the bar to fill (let's be reasonable, you'll eventually run out of items that restore the stated bar), try to attack with as many quick combos as possible, so that the true effect of his HP regen, which is of around 20000HP per turn, is minimized. Once more, you will certainly profit by having a higher level. After the battle, you'll be instantly taken back to the ship. 2.22~. World Map Pick the seventh option and take the yellow brick road to the left, in order to get back to the sixth dungeon. Inside, head all the way up, take the elevator and go to the location where you previously fought a boss, who will still be there. Talk to her and you'll receive a new key item, which makes it possible for you to destroy the pink crystals you've been seeing for quite a while. Once you have it, head all the way back to the ship, enter it and press the sixth option, which takes you to a bunch of giant pink crystals. Destroy them all. Now, the path to take is actually up to you. You can either check the green pillar and pick the top option twice (yep, you even have to confirm your option), which allows you to continue playing across the storyline, BUT (and this is VERY IMPORTANT!) by doing so you won't be able to come back to the world map for a while, which is a bad option if your level isn't that high. If that's your case, I suggest you head back to all the nine dungeons you've seen in the past and gather all the items you could not get back then, since you couldn't break blue/pink crystals. Apart from these recommendations, I also suggest that you have around 2400000 in cash (yep, that's more than two million, by the way), with a minimum of 300000, which you'll need (you can thank me later). If you can get to have, at least, 1200000 of cash you'll be fine, but the more you get the better. As a final recommendation, I suggest that you have your four main characters at least at level 40 - this is not fully required, but it will really help you against the tough battles that you'll get to face in just a few minutes. Like what happens with money, the higher your level, the better. I won't lead you across the procedure of exploring all the past dungeons, but that's not really tough. Simply go to every dungeon you've seen, try to break all the crystals and see where that leads you. When you're finally ready to proceed, approach the green pillar and pick the first option twice. 2.23~. Dungeon 10 (Another Dimension) "Saint Seiya" reference, hum? Nevermind, start going left (and no, you can't cross the electrified tiles) until you reach a building, which you should enter. Don't forget about this place, which contains a save point and a device which allows you to fully restore your health - the strange machine with wings placed right of the save point. Each time you defeat a boss in this area, I suggest you come back here and heal your party, you will need it for sure. After these notes, take the exit in the upper left and follow until you fight your first boss battle, against two familiar faces. Both enemies can use powerful moves that hit three of your characters, but the wolfman is also significantly stronger, and that's the reason why you should try to take him out first. Give it everything you've got and, once he is down, the girl won't pose you that much trouble, provided you constantly keep on healing your characters. KOS-MOS and Kaguya are perfect for this task, and you should have at least one of them, if not both, in your party for this battle, and possibly even for future ones. Once you've defeated both enemies, talk to the woman and she'll sell you some very interesting acessories and items, one of which costs 300000. Buy as many of those as possible (remember, you can equip two of them to each character) and instantly equip them to your four main characters, i.e. the ones you're planning to use from now on. Having eight of those acessories would be just perfect, but having at least four, one for each of your main party members, will be OK. When you're ready to proceed, continue to the right. On the next room, push the two pillars to their right location and a teleporter will suddenly appear, which simply leads to a chest. Proceed by the path on the right, but don't forget to heal and save your game. Follow the only road available until you reach the next building, where you'll meet yet another female selling items. Take the upper exit and you'll fight another boss battle, one against Saya and her two fellows. This is easier if you start by taking down the two monsters, they aren't that tough, and apart from their poison attacks they aren't that powerful either. Saya also tends to come down without much effort, if you followed my previous advices and got many of those expensive items... What? You didn't? Shame on you! Go back, fight as many battles as you have to, and get a few of those items, they are really important! You'll win this battle, sooner or later, and you can the proceed all to the left and down the stairs. Move the two pillars to their right place and you'll be able to take the teleport to a strange place. You can't do anything there yet, but that becomes an important point in the future. To proceed, take the door on the left and follow the path until you see a big tower. Ignore it for now and take the path to the left, past the tower and until you reach a strange green building. Inside, you'll have to fight a tough battle against T-elos, Kaldia and two minor enemies. Obviously, you should start by getting rid of those weaker folks, before focusing all your attacks on Kaldia, since she is easier to take down than T-elos. This is no time for sparing items, abilities or special moves, and you should use any special moves you get as quickly as they appear on your screen, so that all enemies go down as quickly as possible. Also, I gotta tell you that Aschen must be in this battle, and so it is a very good idea to properly equip her before entering the building. Assuming that you already completed this battle, you'll then be able to travel across some of the floors which were previously electrified. Not all floors, the others only open later in the game, but at least you'll have an easier way to get to the place where you can fully heal your characters, i.e. the very first building. You can either go there or instantly go to the huge tower, which was previously locked, depending on your current needs. When you decide to go to the tower, approach its door and pick the upper option. Take the door in the upper left (you can destroy the statue in the upper left corner to reach a destroyable crystal, which leads to a secret treasure chest) and follow the path on the right. Destroy crystals and enter teleporters to activate an important switch and grab a chest. After doing so, go back to the tower's very first room and take the door in the upper right. Destroy crystal, activate a switch, grab a treasure chest if you want. Finally, head back to the tower's first room and take the door leading up. Follow it up to the end and you'll fight a boss battle against yet another familiar character, Katze. Strangely, he will fight you on his own, without anyone else accompanying him, and if you have the acessories from before (you know, the super-expensive ones...?), he'll barely damage you. So, strike him as you'd normally do, be aware that he tends to use his own abilities once in a while, and you'll do fine. After the battle, destroy the two crystals and proceed by the newly-opened door. There are plenty of destructable statues in this room, and that's something that you should take the time to do, since you may be awarded a few free items. After exploring this whole area and destroying its many statues, head to the upper left corner and destroy the two crystals, which gives you a save point. Head to the right side of this room and destroy the four crystals to release an elevator, which you should take to the upper floor. There, destroy the two crystals and board the teleporter to be taken to yet another boss battle, this time against Kyon, Henne and Ezel. Obviously, you should approach this battle by first defeating Kyon, since that little witch is the weakest of the three characters. Next, go for Henne ad take out Ezel last. If you're using the acessories I told you about several times by now, you'll have an easy battle, but you may also want to get some more levels, so that you can cause as much damage to the enemy as possible. If you're not strong enough, this battle may take quite a while, and that's not as funny as you may be thinking. If the damage you are causing is just too limited, try to gain some more levels by going to the first building of this area, the one with the spot that heals you, since that is probably the best place for training. Once you finally manage to defeat these enemies, all paths that were blocked in this area will open up, and you can easily get back to the portal, which you should obviously do, but not before checking a few things. If you've seen the entire sequence that followed the previous battle, you should have noticed that a previously-inacessible treasure chest is now available. You can reach it by going to the rightmost building in the main area and taking the teleporter, but you can't access it yet. Instead, try to come back here before advancing to the final dungeon and you'll (finally) be able to get the content of such chest, but not before facing a very powerful monster. Unfortunately, both ladies that were previously selling items are also gone, and you just can't go and get a particular item, in case you were hoping to do so... instead, take the portal back to the world map, when you feel like it. 2.24~. World Map Travel to the lower right corner of this continent and take the portal to the other area. Now, get back to the red ship, rest and save, if you want to, before heading to the dungeon placed next to it. 2.25~. Dungeon 1 (Green Building) Revisited Go all the way up, and use your recently-acquired card to open the level three door. Activate the console on the left, before interacting with the object placed in the middle of a table. Soon, you'll have to fight Arkgain (yep, the name of the mysterious mech from before) and two characters that look like Haken, who must even be included in this particular battle. Take down those two first and the main enemy will go down without much aditional effort. After the battle is over, you can get a treasure chest in the upper side of this room. Take it or leave it, and the head back to the world map. 2.26~. World Map While you're here, take your time to visit the red ship. After the conversation has ended, head to the upper left corner of this continent and take the portal to the next area. Follow the path until you reach the first city, and a new event will take place. When possible, pick the sixth option, go all the way up and interact with the door of the small shrine, which will open. Enter it, and you'll be in a whole new dungeon. 2.27~. Dungeon 11 (Shrine) Follow the only available path until you reach a save point. Take the lower road (the upper one only leads to a treasure chest placed afar) and continue going until you reach a boss battle. This familiar face is as weak as always, but you may want to take out the two monsters accompanying her before actually focusing on the main boss. Provided you keep your characters' HP high, you won't have much trouble here. Continue by taking the upper left path, and continue going until you reach the next save point. Go to the lower left exit for a treasure chest and two pink crystals, but then follow by the path on the right, until you get outside. You can explore all the paths that the green herbs lead to if you want (one of them leads to a platform with a hole, which you can use to get an inacessible item you've seen before), but the most important thing to do is climbing the darker herbs on the far left, which lead to a second boss battle, where Kaguya must be put in your party. Instead of focusing your attacks on Shuten and Otone, start by taking down the two beasts, since they are significantly weaker. Once you've done that, it is fully up to you to decide which of the two major foes you take down. Personally, I started with Shuten, the horned guy, since his physical seem to be slightly stronger, but you should also realise that Otone, the female ninja, also tends to perform moves that hit three of your characters quite often, which may be problematic, or not, depending on your own battle strategy. Also, if you seem to be causing a very small amount of damage, I really suggest that you go to the dungeon nearby and gain some more levels, so that you may have an easier time facing the many tough battles that await you in the future. When you (finally) complete this battle, you'll be taken to another town. 2.28~. World Map Yep, you're in the huge blue town from before, and there are plenty of new items available in store, you should certainly give them a look by picking the second option of the town menu. You can also rest as usual, and when you are ready to proceed you should exit town and take the path north, back to the second dungeon. 2.29~. Dungeon 2 (Blue Ship) Revisited Go back to the place with the six consoles and interact with the big door, placed between the two groups of three consoles. Follow the new path until you reach a save point placed in a big room. Fully explore this room, and enter the door in the lower floor, which takes you to a battle against four versions of Kaguya. Strange, hum? Anyway, there's no real strategy here, but since all these enemies can regen their own HP, your best bet is possibly focusing all your attacks in a certain enemy until she goes down, and then switching to another one. Repeat, repeat, repeat and the battle will be over. Enter the room, press the switch and leave this small room. Go back to the upper floor and press the switch placed in front of the save point, an action which will call the elevator for you. Use it to access the upper floor and go all to the right, to what seems to be a command center. Interact with the console on the upper right corner (ignore the main one by now) and leave this room. Take the new elevator down and press the buttons placed on both sides of the room. Go back to the "command center" and you'll get into another boss battle. Now, you must have both KOS-MOS and Reiji in your party, and be sure to equip them according to such information. When facing such powerful foes - you'll be fighting "Reiji", "Xiaomu", T-elos and Saya - you know you'll be into trouble. There's no way you're going to win this if you're level is too low, and if that's indeed your case you may want to go get some more experience. Then, when you finally reach you true battle, start by taking out "Xiaomu" (the girl) and "Reiji" (the guy), both of which are also your party members. Yes, the quotation marks are actually intentional, and after defeating those two people, go for T-elos, since she now seems to be more powerful that her current comrade. I can't stress this enough, this is a very tough battle, and it may take several tries, and high levels, before you actually manage to beat it. KOS-MOS and Kaguya's healing skills are certainly useful when it comes to healing your characters, and try not to be shy when it comes to healing, or else you'll be going down really quick. After finally managing to beat this battle, head to the main console and select the first option. A few seconds later, you'll have to quickly tap the "A" button, in order to shoot a large ray. Do it and, after a short cutscene, you'll be back outside, in the world map. 2.30~. World Map Next, you'll be entering the final dungeon, and there's no way back from there. In fact, you can't even save your game inside it, and there are no random battles in there, either. when you're ready to go there, make your way back to the red ship and a conversation will take place. After it, a new choice will appear, and by pressing that fourth option you will be taken to the final dungeon. However, I suggest you don't do it just yet. Instead, go explore the world, get a few more levels on your characters and enjoy yourself for a while. Personally, I decided to take this area with my main characters around level 65, and I never had any sort of problems facing the several bosses there available. One thing you may want to do is head back to the tenth dungeon (you know, the one that seems to take place in another dimension...) and get the chest from before, which was previously protect, and is no more! You'll have to fight a powerful monster for it, though, and if I had to give you some tips for that battle, I'd probably say that you'll need lots of healing items, everyone at a high level and, apart from that, tons of items which can restore your F-gauge, preferably ones that increase it by 50% or 100%. Strike with your character's best combos, try to use their abilities effectively and use your special moves as quickly as you get the chance to, since this enemy tends to recover around 17000 HP per turn. I defeated him at around level 55, but when attempting to mime such feat I strongly suggest that you take characters with levels a lot higher than that. Once you defeat such beast, you'll gain access to the treasure chest, which contains a very good sword, which you should certainly equip to one of your characters. It's up to you to decide if you want this sword or not, and the lines below reference the battles that you'll fight when you finally decide to confront the final bosses - as I told you just a few lines above, go to the red ship, press the fourth option and you'll head to a point of no return. 2.31~. Dungeon 12 As soon as you "enter" this dungeon, you'll see a known character on the left. She sells all kinds of items, ones that you may find very useful to the next few battle, and obviously you should try to buy as many of those as possible, they'll be very useful. Also, this same character fully heals all your characters, and there's no real reason not to return here after each battle, since this dungeon doesn't even have any random battles. When you're ready to proceed, take the only possible path and you will quickly fight your first battle, in which you will fight Arkgain and a new mech. This one is an easy one, just start with Arkgain (the blue mech, that is) and, when he goes down, focus all your attacks in the other mech, which won't be able to do much by himself. However, there's something you must be very careful with, during this battle: sometimes, enemies will strike twice in a row, which may put your party in trouble if your character have low HP. So, in order to prevent that kind of problems from happening, try to constantly have all your characters with their maximum HP. High levels, and I've probably said it a million times by now, are also a good help for this battle. Talk to the friendly catgirl, she will heal you, and then you should proceed further into the dungeon, which leads to a battle against Abend, Gespent and Nacht. Start by taking Gespent (the black mech) down, he is the weakest of all three. Proceed by destroying Nacht (the blue mech), since he has an attack that can hit up to three of your characters for high damage. Finally, when he is by himself, take Abend down, and I'm sure he won't pose you that much trouble. Go back to the catgirl, heal, repose your item stock and then go further into the dungeon. Soon, you'll see a tall ladder made of bones, climb it and you'll finally see the last boss. If you didn't have problems with the past two bosses, this one will also be easy. He mostly uses two attacks, one in which he hits your entire team, and another in which he hits a single member of your party for high damage. If you take lots and lots of revival items with you (remember, the catgirl sells those, and you can have up to 15) and constantly heal the members that are hurt, the enemy will go down sooner or later, despite his HP regen ability. Nanbu should be in your party, her healing abilities are very useful, but KOS-MOS is also a good option, since she can revive people AND heal 50% of their life with a single ability. In terms of attack, just put your strongest characters in your party and strike with their best combos, along with their own special attacks. Keep on attacking, this may be a long battle but, if you keep on healing everyone and striking when possible, you'll eventually win this battle. This wasn't that tough, was it? Anyway, now you can relax, stand back and enjoy the ending sequence, but don't turn the game off during the credits; instead, wait until the entire sequence has ended and you'll be able to save your game, which gives you access to a "New Game +" option, where you can start the game with all the items and money you had at the end of the previous one. Some of your statistics, like the most damage you've caused or the longest combo, will also be saved, and they'll still be there if you restart the game by using this new save. That's all, I hope you enjoyed this game! 3~. Controls In terms of controls, this game is very easy to understand. Outside of battles, controls work like this: Up - Moves your character up Down - Moves your character down Left - Moves your character to the left Right - Moves your character to the right A - Opens doors, interacts with objects, confirm selections B - Cancels selections X - Opens menu (the information concerning this menu is mentioned in the next section of this guide) Y - Does nothing L - In certain menus, switches to another character / type of item R - In certain menus, switches to another character / type of item Start - Does nothing Select - Does nothing Very simple, hum? I really doubt you'll have any trouble with those, but things become slightly more difficult in the middle of battles, where controls change a little bit. Instead, the controls used in the middle of battles are these: Up - Selects the enemy to attack, moves up on menus Down - Selects the enemy to attack, moves down on menus Left - While in the middle of combat calls a supporter (if one is currently available), moves left on menus Right - While in the middle of combat changes to the next character (if one is currently available), moves right on menus A - While in the middle of combat, attacks. Otherwise, it is used to make selections B - Cancels selections X - Opens menu (the information concerning this menu is mentioned in the next section of this guide) Y - While in the middle of combat, uses a special attack BUT only if your F-gauge is filled L - Guards, skipping a turn and receiving less damage from attacks R - Allows you to see the HP and SP of all your characters Start - Does nothing Select - Does nothing Unfortunately, this game doesn't seem to use the lower screen (or even the stylus) for anything besides displaying information, and I doubt you'll need any help with that sort of thing - just look at the screen and see what's written there, it's not hard at all. 4~. How do battles work? Having all the controls in mind, I'm sure you'll be able to figure most of the battle system by yourself. However, some aspects of the in-battle gameplay are tougher than they look, and you may want to read some of the information concerning battles, displayed below, in order to understand it all. ---------------------------------------- 1 Start by looking at the lower screen. It displays the order in which all characters, both the ones in your party and enemies, will attack, with the one in the first spot being the one who is acting (attacking, using items, using abilities, or even just waiting) right now. This order is only based on the "SPD" (speed...) state of each character, with the ones with an higher value acting before the ones who have a lower "SPD". ---------------------------------------- 2 When a character is about to attack, he will be put in the first slot and, if any, status effects will do their task. -------------------------------------------------- 2.1 If the character is an enemy, he will attack your party, use his own abilities, or maybe even inflict a status effect on your characters. -------------------------------------------------- 2.2 If the character in the first slot is one of yours, you'll be able to choose what you want to do. Use an ability or a particular item if you want to. You can also press "L" to skip a turn (that character will receive less damage if attacked). Nevertheless, you can then select a move from the menu (which ends your current turn), OR you may select an enemy (use "up" and "down" to do so) and press "A" to start a combat. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2.1 If the enemy is protect, and lots of enemies seen later in the game are, you'll see a small shield in front of the enemy. Keep on striking him and, eventually, that shield will break for as long as you keep the enemy in the air. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2.2 In the middle of a combat, you can press "A" to unleash the next move in your moveset, if you have enough CP, OR press "left" (which will use a supporter, if one is available) or "right" (which will switch to the next character in the listing, if he is one of yours and he is free to act). ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2.3 If your F-gauge, the yellow bar seen in the lower left corner of this console's upper screen, is filled, you can press "Y" to unleash that character's special move. Be aware that the status of this bar is reset after each battle, and so you have nothing to gain by not using special moves. -------------------------------------------------- 2.3 No matter what action takes place, the F-gauge, the yellow bar seen in the lower left corner of the console's upper screen, will increase. -------------------------------------------------- 2.4 Your character's turn will end when you press "B" after striking, when his CP isn't enough to unleash another move, or when the enemy performs a "Force Evasion". If you don't know what this is, I can tell you that this an enemy feature (you can't use it) that may be used whenever they touch the ground after being juggled in the air, and which instantly ends a character's turn. -------------------------------------------------- 2.5 If someone inflicted any kind of status condition in an enemy, this will be the time at which such condition will be added. The "bad" status effects are colour-based, like this: - Blue - your character's speed will be halved for five turns. - Gray - your character's TEC will be lowered for five turns. - Green - your character will lose some HP at the end of the next five turns. - Purple - your character will lose some SP at the end of the next five turns. - Red - your character will skip a single turn. - Yellow - your character won't be able to do anything for three turns. If you're wondering, you can get rid of these effects by either waiting the required number of turns or use an healing item or ability. -------------------------------------------------- 2.6 At the end of your turn some enemies may use "Counter", which inflicts damage in the character who attacked them. This appears to be fully random, and it is a technique that only enemies can use. ---------------------------------------- 3 If there is at least one enemy alive, the slots will be updated and you'll be taken back to point 2. If all enemies are dead, the battle ends. If all your characters are dead, you'll see an obnoxious "Game Over" screen. This is surely a simplistic version of the battle system, but it is also the basic idea behind the whole system. This doesn't mean that battles always take these very same steps, and it is supposed to be a simple way to explain how battles work, and nothing else. 5~. Menus In a general view, this game contains only two types of menus. The first shows up by pressing "X" while in the field, and allows you to make lots of different selections. The second one is also unfolded by pressing "X", but you must be in the middle of a battle. If you press the required "X" while in the field, you'll see the following menu: Abilities Moves Items Equipment Party Status Options Tutorial "Abilities" allows you to see all the abilities that your characters have, and even instantly use some of those. You can press "L" and "R" to switch to another character. "Moves" allows you to check the attacks that your characters can currently use, and this is also the place you can come to in order to change your characters' moveset. In order to do so, press "A" and you'll be able to see a listing of five moves; select one of those and press "A" to change it, an action that you should repeat in order to change the entire moveset. As usual, you can change characters by pressing "L" and "R". "Items" has an obvious purpose. As before, you can press "L" and "R" to switch between different types of moves. "Equipment" gets you to the menu where you can change the four pieces gear attached to each of your characters - a weapon, an armor and two acessories. Switch characters by pressing "L" and "R". "Party" simply allows you to change the people you have in your party, and which ones you want to use as supporters. If you press the first option, you'll be able to customize your party, while the second one lets you test your configuration against a sample enemy (there are three choices there, which have to do with the enemy weight). "Status" can be used to check statistics related to all your characters, like their equipment weapons, their level, how much experience they have, and all that. "ATK" stands for attack, "DEF" is an obvious acronym for defense, "SPD" is the measure of speed (faster characters attack first) and "TEC" is the number which indicates how powerful your techniques are. "Options" take you to a very classical menu, where you can tune up several of this game's features. Also, once you've completed the main storyline once and saved your game, this menu will allow you to listen to the 38 different songs available in this product. "Tutorial" is an option which explains several of this game's features. If you can read Japanese and you're not totally sure about a particular feature, you can click this option and you'll be taught about everything this game has to offer. Apart from this menu, there's also the one which can be accessed by pressing "X" while in the middle of a battle, but outside of a combat. It contains the following options: Abilities Moves Items Stats Guard Run "Abilities" allows you to use one of the abilities that your currently selected character has. If you want to use the ones of another character, you must wait for his/her turn and then pick this option. "Moves" lets you use one of the moves usually placed in the page 2/2 of each character. However, by pressing left (or right), you'll be able to check that characters' current movest, and even change it in the heat of battle. "Items" serve for an obvious purpose, yet again - picking it allows you to use one of the items that your party has. "Stats" simply lets you see your character's statistics, where you can press "A" and "X" to change characters. "Guard" skips a turn, but the character who uses it will suffer less damage from attacks. "Run" makes it possible for you to escape the current battle, if that's actually possible. Not all battles allow you to do so, for obvious reasons. In terms of major menus, that's basically it. Some towns also give you small menus, but those are easily understandable, and generally pose no problems at all. Binary menus always have a "yes" option first, while the second one tends to be "no", as you'll certainly notice after a few hours of play. 6~. Characters Here, you'll be able to read about the eight (well, technically they're just seven) characters available in the game. I'll give some information about them, their moves and abilities, which you'll probably find very useful. If not, well, at least I'll include it all here for this guide's completeness sake. Also, be aware that abilities and moves are listed in the order they appear when you reach the end of the game, and since they aren't always in order - sometimes ability 3 is learned only after ability 5 - the listing may look slightly confusing. So, in case you're looking for how to use a particular ability, try to check its cost and what numbers (or letters) you can spot out of the Japanese text - that way, if you are looking at an ability that costs 30 SP and has a reference to HP, give a look to that character's listing and you'll have an easier time figuring out what it does. Apart from the information stated here, be aware that you can interrupt all character's moves during a certain point (which varies) of their execution to gain some extra points to your F-Gauge. Such mechanic won't be covered here, since such technique is very tricky to understand and master, but you may want to use it sooner or later, since it is also useful for later battles. 6.1~. Haken This character, which can be considered as the protagonist, isn't specifically notable in any particular area. He is a powerful striker, but in terms of moves and skills he doesn't have anything big. He was created specifically for this game. ---------------------------------------- ABILITIES ----- ABILITY 1 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 20 SP Effect: Heals up to 50% of his own HP. ----- ABILITY 2 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 20 SP Effect: Restores up to 30% of his own COM. ----- ABILITY 3 Learned at level: 6 Cost: 15 SP Effect: Stuns an enemy (he won't be able to attack) for a single turn. ----- ABILITY 4 Learned at level: 32 Cost: 30 SP Effect: Increases his own COM to 150% for three turns. ----- ABILITY 5 Learned at level: 2 Cost: 20 SP Effect: Increases his own TEC by 15% for three turns. ----- ABILITY 6 Learned at level: 22 Cost: 60 SP Effect: Increases the CRT of the entire team by 20% for three turns. ----- ABILITY 7 Learned at level: 16 Cost: 30 SP Effect: Increases by half the money won at the end of the current battle. ----- ABILITY 8 Learned at level: 36 Cost: 30 SP Effect: For a single combat, your attacks won't miss at all (?). ----- ABILITY 9 Learned at level: 34 Cost: 45 SP Effect: For a single combat, your attacks will have their damage increased by half, but you won't do any critical hits. ----- ABILITY 10 Learned at level: 43 Cost: 80 SP Effect: Inflicts several beneficial status effects on him, effective for a single combat only. ---------------------------------------- ATTACKS 1/2 ----- MOVE 1 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 25% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 2 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 10% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 3 Learned at level: 7 Cost: 10% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 4 Learned at level: 20 Cost: 35% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 5 Learned at level: 30 Cost: 20% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 6 Learned at level: N/A (acquired as part of the storyline) Cost: 5 SP Effect: Move used when he is called as a supporter. ---------------------------------------- ATTACKS 2/2 ----- MOVE 1 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 0 SP, 0% COM Effect: Special move, used by pressing "Y" when the F-gauge is filled. ----- MOVE 2 Learned at level: N/A (acquired as part of the storyline) Cost: 50 SP, 80% COM Effect: Attacks one enemy. ----- MOVE 3 Learned at level: N/A (acquired as part of the storyline) Cost: 50 SP, 50% COM Effect: Attacks up to two selectable enemies. ----- MOVE 4 Learned at level: 11 Cost: 20 SP, 30% COM Effect: Attacks up to three selectable enemies. A new character next... 6.7~. KOS-MOS This is the third character brought in from another game. If you're a gamer, you probably know that this character was originally from a game called "Xenosaga", and just like in that title she is here one of the most powerful strikers. However, she also has some very good healing abilities, and she's one of those characters that you may want to constantly have in your party. ---------------------------------------- ABILITIES ----- ABILITY 1 Learned at level: 30 Cost: 40 SP Effect: Restores up to 50% of all your characters' HP. ----- ABILITY 2 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 50 SP Effect: Revives a dead character and restores 50% of his/her HP. ----- ABILITY 3 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 35 SP Effect: Restores 30% COM and 20 SP to a selectable character. ----- ABILITY 4 Learned at level: 25 Cost: 15 SP Effect: Cures all status effects affecting a single character. ----- ABILITY 5 Learned at level: 44 Cost: 20 SP Effect: ? ----- ABILITY 6 Learned at level: 42 Cost: 30 SP Effect: Increases her own COM to 120% for three turns. ----- ABILITY 7 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 30 SP Effect: Increases her own DEF by 20% for three turns. ----- ABILITY 8 Learned at level: 32 Cost: 20 SP Effect: ? ----- ABILITY 9 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 15 SP Effect: For a single combat, your attacks won't be blocked. ----- ABILITY 10 Learned at level: 38 Cost: 30 SP Effect: For a single combat, attacks won't miss or be guarded. ---------------------------------------- ATTACKS 1/2 ----- MOVE 1 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 15% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 2 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 10% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 3 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 20% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 4 Learned at level: 20 Cost: 25% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 5 Learned at level: 30 Cost: 30% COM Effect: Attacks the enemy. ----- MOVE 6 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 5 SP Effect: Move used when she is called as a supporter. ---------------------------------------- ATTACKS 2/2 ----- MOVE 1 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 0 SP, 0% COM Effect: Special move, used by pressing "Y" when the F-gauge is filled. ----- MOVE 2 Learned at level: N/A (availably initially) Cost: 30 SP, 50% COM Effect: ? ----- MOVE 3 Learned at level: 28 Cost: 30 SP, COM 50% Effect: Attacks up to three selectable enemies. That's all for playable characters... 6.8~. Gespent, Abend + Gespent + Nacht If you're about to ask it, don't. You can't put these guys in your party, NEVER, and even their presence in your party seem to serve as nothing more than mere cameos. They only serve as supporters, and each time you try to use their icon you'll summon Gespent. Later in the game, two other mechs are added to the poll, and each time you try to use that icon one of the three mechs will be randomly summoned. Nothing too shiny, but at least they're powerful, which is always good. FAQ. Frequently Asked Questions Some of the questions most readers tend to have. In case your question also isn't answered here, feel free to contact me by using the address stated in the final section of this guide. Q: For several times in this guide, you mention "battle" and "combat", what's the difference between those two? A: I consider "battle" to be the whole fighting event, while "combat" is what takes place when two characters (or three, if you decide to call a supporter) meet each other and fight in real time. Q: Why doesn't this guide cover the aspect of gameplay where you can stop a character's move in order to fill the F-gauge faster? A: Mostly because I have yet to master it, and I couldn't find the proper spot for all the moves. However, if you have more information about this, feel free to mail me. Q: Why didn't you translated the names of the moves, the abilities or the storyline? A: People sure like to ask this one, hum? First of all, I don't write on storylines, if you're interested in that kind of thing you'll have to buy the game and read it yourself. Second, if there ever was an English version of this game I'd have to change the entire guide to the translated names, which is far from amusing. This way, I'll know what I am talking about, and so will you, but I won't have to change the entire guide for possible translations that may come in the future. Q: What is "CRT" and "GRD" all about? A: "CRT" is an invisible stat that determines how many of your attacks will be critical, causing extra damage. As for "GRD", it seems to be a basic defensive stat. Q: I found a treasure chest protected by a strange dark fog, which makes it impossible for me to gather the item stored inside of it. Afterall, how can I acquire the content of such chest? A: Return there when you're about to complete the main storyline, more precisely when a laser is shooting out of the map, and you'll be able to collect the content of such chest, but not before fighting a very powerful monster. Q: What happens when I complete the game once? A: You're allowed to save your game, which leads to sort of a "New Game +" option, where you start the adventure all over again, but retaining all the money and items that you had at the end of the previous game. Some statistics are retained, and a BGM mode (which serves for the obvious purpose of listening to in-game sounds and songs) is unlocked. Q: What happens if I put a "Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation" game in the GBA slot? A: I was told that it unlocks minor in-game content. Nothing too shiny, or really worth your time. That's all for now... B_END.
