Three major Knight Squads carry out the duty of protecting Queen and coun- try: Talon Squad, led by Richter; Tusk Squad, led by Gaston; and Stinger Squad, led by Steiner. Through the courage of the Royal Knights, and with the cooperation of the Rev Magic Association, Carnava has spent the last millennia in peace. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- WITCHES AND WIZARDS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Humans with special mental aptitude necessary to use magic are known as Witches and Wizards. They all fall under the auspices of the Rev Magic Association. Members of the Association are bound to never use their magic to harm others. The six Witches that are the best at using the individual elements are called Elemental Witches. Currently Fatima, one of the six Elemental Witches, is at war with the rest of the Magic Association in what is commonly referred to as "The Witch Conflict." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHADOW FROST AND BEAST FIENDS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The two major threats of the citizens of Carnava are the Shadow Frost Witchm abd the mysterious Beast Fiends were first sighted about 16 years ago, and while nobody has any idea where these extremely strong and violent creatures come from. Sighting of Beast Fiend have been increasing recently, and some have speculated that the Beast Fiends are tied to the actions of Fatima, the Shadow Frost Witch. [EXTRACTED FROM LUMINOUS ARC 2'S INSTRUCTIONAL BOOKLET] ___________________________________________________________________________ ###################### BATTLE MECHANICS (BM%) ###################### I'll only cover what's new in LUMINOUS ARC 2, basic fundamentals like mo- ving, attacking are very well explained by Rasche, when given the option to train choose to go over it and Rasche will prompt you and the rest is history. Or you can just refer to the instructional booklet provided. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE "ENGAGEMENT" SYSTEM --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roland can be engaged to a Witch in battle for a period of [THREE TURNS] while he's engaged to a Witch he gained the following bonuses:- � Increase in stat values (ATK, MAG, etc) � Change of Element � New Arts Command � New Flash Drive .---------------------------------------------. | REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGAGING A WITCH IN BATTLE | |---------------------------------------------'--------------------------. | The Witch Roland wishes to engage to [MUST PARTICIPATE] in battle and | | must be alive throughout the whole battle. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Roland can only be engaged [TO ONE] Witch at one time, but once the | | engagement expires [HE IS FREE] to engage to [ANOTHER] Witch. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Engagement will only [LAST FOR THREE TURNS]. | '------------------------------------------------------------------------' "What good is it if the engagement only last for three turns?" The point here is not how long the engagement will last but [WHEN] do you actually uses it? Getting engaged as early as the battle starts will only result in waste. Instead save it for the 'big guy' or the head of the pack, Roland's stats significantly skyrocket when he's engaged, one of the best way to make full use of this system is to harvest enough DP, get engage and un- leash hell on the boss with your FDs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- EQUIPPING OF LAPIS & ITEMS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another new feature is the equipping of Lapis. Think of Lapis as something like a [STAT BOOSTER], jewels that enhances your stats (ATK, MAG, SPD). Lapis can be earned after every battle whether storyline or via a quest, you'll usually receive 2 or more at the end. You equip Lapis exactly the same way you'd equip your weapon or armor. Sadly, I am disappointed with how you'll also need to equip items in order to use them in battle, each character is allowed up to 2 slots. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DRIVE POINT/FLASH DRIVE SYSTEM --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Drive Point have three uses in battle:- .----------------------------. | DRIVE POINTS IS ABLE TO... | |----------------------------'-------------------------------------------. | Enhance the effect of items you're using. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Increase the effect/damage of ARTS you're going to execute. | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Unleash [FLASH DRIVE] to wreak havoc on the battlefield. | '------------------------------------------------------------------------' A total of [300 PTS] can be accumulated but you only need [100 POINTS] to execute a [LEVEL 1 FLASH DRIVE, 200 POINTTS FOR LEVEL 2 FLASH DRIVE, ETC]. Do spare a couple of minutes to read 'em. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ATTACK FROM THE SIDE, BACK OR HIGH ABOVE --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attacking from the side, back or high above will result in more damage and higher accuracy as opposed to the front, this tactic also applies for the enemy, they can use it on you, so avoid standing next to high platform or terrain, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- STOCK UP ON HEALING ITEMS --------------------------------------------------------------------------- In LUMINOUS ARC 2 you have to equip items before you can actually use them in battle, hence is why if you noticed some character is able to use items and some couldn't, this is because either the items ran out or you did not equip them beforehand. Equipping items is the same as equipping weapon and armor as well as Lapis. Go to the World Map and press X, choose Character and equip from there. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVELING UP! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Same old golden rule applies: if you're weak, go back and level up, but LUMINOUS ARC 2 only allows you to train in the form of Guild, so you have to go back to the Royal Capital of Carnava and accept quest to go and level up, even if you have completed a particular quest before, you can still accept it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVELING UP TRICK --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Certain ARTS can be used over and over again to accumulate EXP points, for example: Rina's [FIRST AID], Althea's [INTENTION] and Dia's [TREATMENT] to name a few all can be used on repeat EVEN if you're not afflicted with de- buffs or is already buffed up you can still earn those EXP points. A good way to farm EXP is to kill off ALL ENEMIES on the battlefield except one and keep it alive, then go ahead and have fun reaping those points. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPEND TIME IN THE GUILD --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Be sure to spend "quality time" in [ELSA'S GUILD] over at [ROYAL CARNAVA], the importance of leveling up become much more apparent in the later part of the game as you discovered the difficulty escalated to a point it gets really ridiculous. Trust me! You won't regret doing repeats in the Guild. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- HARVEST "HARD-TO-GET" ITEMS FROM THE GUILD --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The [GUILD] sometimes rewards you with something rare like "ELIXIR" or even high-tier [LAPIS] (by "high-tier" I mean those Lapis that are in red color), when a particular request provide such item I strongly suggest that you spend time to harvest as many of these rare items as you can. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAVE! SAVE! SAVE! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget to save! On the World Map press the L should button. Alas, "Luminous Arc 2" only allows up to two save slots only, and one Suspend Save Data. :( the suspend data never "expires" even when you load it it'll still be there the next time you return to the title screen. LUMINOUS ARC 2 in every way and shape has escalated in features, interface and overall graphics, this game is freakin' shiny. The World Map can be traveled all around (once you've accessed to places, of course) and the guild is now accessible too. If you visit towns and castle you can gather information from the folks just like in LUMINOUS ARC 1 where you can choose to go to the library or have a chat with the others. Let's visit the Royal Capital before we head out shall we? [CARNAVA PALACE] is also available for you to access, you should gather info there especially in the Guest Room, haha. You can go on ahead and explore other places, make President your last stop. If you're up for a rather funny conversation then choose the "Take campus tour" > "Visit the dorms." I strongly suggest you go and upgrade your equipment and do some quests at the Guild (do it over and over again to farm Lapis and equip on all your characters). If one of the Lapis you've farmed is a [FIRE CRYSTAL] give it to Althea, it'll tremendously increase the potency of her Fire magic. [MAGIMINT] & [DRIVEPILL] aren't really necessary. Once you're ready visit "To President." Fatima will burst through (Whoops!) and let's not forget that Josie, meow! And I'm not sure if it matter what you chose but in case you're curious I picked the first...I'm a justice man! All you need to do is defeat Fatima, but she's all the way at the back and you have to go through her minions before you get to her, so it'd be wise to dispose of them (and farm the EXP). Also, Roland can now use engage with Althea the Fire Witch, engaging with Althea enables Roland to use FD (Flash Drive) and his stats slightly in- crease in value and other misc tidbits like the ability to use magics. I strongly suggest you keep this for Fatima. This battle has the potential to overwhelm you SOMEWHAT, Fatima can be a pushover with her magic, if you're not careful she can take one or two of your characters with a snap of her fingers, *SNAP* like that! Rina and Althena is the way to go eventhough Al's magic may not hit for much it's still better than nothing. And erm, try to finish those Blue Bomb A.S.A.P. if you leave them while they're in critical HP status they'll explode in your face. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Althea will faint like as if she fell from the 999999999999 floor, I guess she overexert herself? Hm, meow! To cure Althea of her burning fever one needs the Death Bettle, and the Beetle can be found at Mt. There's a new quest available at the Guild so feel free to take it up and give Dia a try or something, gather bucketload of Rico and as much Lapis as you can, don't forget to resupply on medication [VITONIC], etc and equip those on all characters. Ignore the Pip guy cause he can fight very well and he has the [CURE] Art to restore his lost HP, but if you're doing good yourself then quickly defeat any enmies in your way and have Rina snipe those crabs for Pip. The Reptoid and Minotaur shouldn't pose any problems as Dia's and Althea's [BRIGHT ARROW] and [FIRE BULLET] (respectively) really hurts. Your target here is [JOSIE], the Familiar, he has the [DARK PIERCE] Arts which really hit for quite a bit if he used it on anyone of you then have Pip use [CURE] on the victim. You can't really waltz right up to the cat with the rest of his minions blocking the way, quickly remove the [ELEMENTS + GOLEMS] with either Rina or Rasche and have Roland slowly make his way up towards [JOSIE], this awful cat will almost always "hit-and-run" on you ([DARK PIERCE] + RUN), to make quick work use Dia's [BRIGHT ARROW] and Althea's [FIRE BULLET] an [INTENTION-ED] Al will deal slightly more damage and [BRIGHT ARROW] will naturally burn the hell out of [JOSIE]. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Josie will run away leaving all of you guys behind, Miss Dia will suggest we all head to Mistia cause that's where Luna was last sighted. ___________________________________________________________________________ #################################### CHAPTER 7: PICTURES AND THORNS (C7#) #################################### .----------------------. | QUOTE OF THE CHAPTER | |----------------------'-------------------------------------------------. | "Hey, your measurements! *whistle* Miss Dia! - Rasche | '------------------------------------------------------------------------' Well, the sighting of Luna turned out to be false what was reported was actually a lifelike statue of the person we're looking for made by a man named [KAPH]! There's quite a bit of things you can do: � New quest at the guild [DELIVERY 2] � Talk with the townspeople of Mistia � Shop for new equipment! � GO AND FREAKIN' LEVEL UP (BY DOING REPEATS)* *I suggest you go level up a little bit for everyone, LUMINOUS ARC 2 isn't really a walk in the park, in later part of the game the difficulty will shine much brighter than Miss Dia's horrible personality. :( You can also go ahead and talk with everyone in town there are really some interesting conversations, and most importantly to go shopping and upgrade everyone's equipment. When you're done with all your chores visit [MEET AT PLAZA] to proceed with the storyline. [ROSETTA ROSSO] will crash the party and you will have to fight! Do take note that Karen is a ranged fighter like Rina but her attack power is weak and is nothing much to worry about. Dia, Rina and Althea will prove to be very valuable here especially Rina; her SPD and ATK are simply off the hook, Althea is great when powered up with [INTENTION], have the Witches deal with the Wizards and the melee fighters deal with the Archers and Karen. The "DBot" are easily taken care of by Roland and Rasche's physical attack this is yet another fairly easy battle to overcome. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You will get a scene with Kaph harrasing some students, get the long-ass conversations over and done with and two new places will open up: [LAGO SPRINGS] and [OZARK PLAINS]. Your destination though is the [LAGO SPRINGS] [OZARK PLAINS] has basically nothing right now. ___________________________________________________________________________ ################################## CHAPTER 8: AN END TO ENIGMAS (C8#) ################################## .----------------------. | QUOTE OF THE CHAPTER | |----------------------'-------------------------------------------------. | "All Witches are kind and generous people!" - Althea | '------------------------------------------------------------------------' Brace yourself for another long-ass conversation, you'll be in the World Map soon after. Since we're in Chapter 8 there are two new [GUILD REQUEST you can take up now: [BULL RUSH] and [RIBBIT UP]. The Bull Rush one re- wards you with a rare item known as an [ELIXIR] which fully heals both HP and MP completely (tell me where else are you gonna get your hands on an infinite supply of [ELIXIR] now?). I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU DO THIS QUEST AS MANY TIMES AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN OR UNTIL YOU'RE FREAKIN' SICK OF IT! This is also a good chance to level up on weak party members especially Althea, this crimson Witch has really high [MAGIC ATK] rate, you may want to spend time to mould her up real good. Also, as a warning you're up against a two-parter battle later so check everything and when you're ready head for [AZUL CAVE]. The terrain yet again is really annoying, only Luna can walk anywhere, it's only because she's a [ SWIM TYPE]. Also, try to have Rina and Kaph in your party formation as their ranged attack are really good to have here! Now, while it may be tempting to go straight at Fatima, don't take that path yet! Instead focus your attention on the rest of the enemies, remove them as quickly as you can, and as long as you do not defeat 4 of 'em Fatima will not move, when you've cut down on the enemy forces the Frost Witch will step forward, now is the time to remove what's left on the battlefield and go for Fatima herself. She'll keep abusing [DARK PIERCE] if you level up your party well, this attack will not hurt as much, to make quick work of battle build up on Althea's FD and unleash [PHILIA BLAZE]...mine did about 345 HP of damage. (keep using [INTENTION] to accumulate FD Points). You can apply the same strategy as before: have both Rina and Kaph do most of the work and have Roland and Althea build up their FD to unleash on Josie and focus on defeating everything else first! if you need some healing prowess I suggest you bring in Pip rather than Luna since her [PURIFYING WATER] is pricey at 14 MP, you'll save a lot with Pip. Keep everyone health in check and this battle is a blardy breeze. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A small argument will occur due to Dia's dishonesty and a suprise guest will pop up! Seriously, how can he watch his own two sons and their friends struggle against a group of monsters and a stupid pussycat? He could have helped out, geez!..... Oh whoops! Did I like gave away the clue to the surprise guest? :( so much for suprises, then...lol. But since we're in a new chapter already...you guessed it there's a new [GUILD REQUEST] up called [WET SPIRIT], the reward is 2000R, that's not too bad you will need the money for equipment upgrade and misc purchases, go do it repeatedly to your <3 content. When you've chosen to proceed with the story [POP] will pop up out of no- where and disagree with all of you. This is actually an easy fight your main focus here is to remove the two [NATURE KOPINS] first then concentrate on [POP], Luna can heal when- ever necessary, Rina can snipe from four tiles away and Roland can engage when he has accumulated enough FD and unleash it on Pop! Eventhough Steven said he would help you can't really use this geezer for battle, nevermind he'll die soon any- way...I should hope. Do not panic if [REINFORCEMENTS] appear they're just [GOLEMS] you can kill for extra EXPERIENCE points. Althea will learn [FLAME PILLAR] at level 14, if you need a multi-target magic; [FLAME PILLAR] is the way to go, of course, enhanced with [INTENTION] for extra damage, it'll really hurt those [GOLEMS]. Oh! Beware of the [BOMBS] once they get critical in health they get really aggressive and will try to blow up in your face. While it's tempting to just stick with your favorite six it's still wise to pay attention to everyone so you'll have a wider, better choices in character selections. Cause not everyone is the same in term of stats, some are fast (Sadie, you'll know who she is in due time), others are brutal (Rasche), some are magically disastrous (Althea, for now) and only one has the eye of the bull (Rina). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � STRATEGY --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The trick here is to stick together, luckily there aren't any enemy you can't really handle nor are there any adversary who has any multi-target spells. If you bring in Althea, her [FLAME PILLAR] magic is useful here be sure to buff it up with [INTENTION] first. This battle can be easy or hard depeneding on your LAPIS setup and your level, if you're around my level or higher you should do fine if you're lower than that then you may need to go level up somemore or think up of a sure-win strategy. [JOSIE] should be the first enemy that you can bring down, [FATIMA] is up next and last should be [MATTIAS] as long as you keep everyone HP up with Luna and Pip (if you bring in both) then you should have no problem be sure to keep your FDs for [MATTIAS]. Oh, by the way beware of [FATIMA]'s [GRAVITY ICE] as it has the potential to freeze a target (like paralyze). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's all too late, the Master has gone crazay and kill his own friend! The average enemy level for this map is 14 if I am not wrong and since I'm reaching my 20s I'm able to OHKO (One-Hit KO) most enemies. Anyway, just stick to the lower part of the map and don't bother scaling up, but try to get in close so the enemy will come down to you (this is what we call "luring in," you're the bait). The [CERBERUS] possessed a multi-target ability called [FIRE BREATH] that may or may not hurt you, the [VIPER] will mostly waste their turn using ranged magics like [AQUA HAMMER] on you so have your Sniper take 'em down, the only reinforcement that show up is a [GRYPHONX] that doesn't pose any sort of threat have Roland or Rasche stab it to death. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everyone will start to think that the [FIENDS] have gotten stronger, (er? I thought I WAS STRONGER?!) a scene will occur which I personally really, really like! It has a mature and touching feel to it. Start your day by spreading out significantly and have the hard-hitters up front, the healers should be standing away from harm but in range to heal those who are in need. The [DBOT] have a habit of using its [FLASH DRIVE] when it has fulfilled its requirement so if you got hit by its FD, heal quickly, did I mentioned that it has virtually no magical defense [RES]? Unleash the Witches power and FDs unto it to quickly end this. Tch! Hm, I'd strongly suggest to level up Luna to around level 26 and equip her with the [MEDITATE] Lapis this will allow her to regenerate 10% worth of MP every round which is very, very useful!...What? Where to get the [MEDITATE] Lapis? -_- er, you can't buy them you can only win them as spoils in battles, so, you can see why I'm kinda overleved here--it's because I'm trying to obtain this Lapis for my gorgeous Luna! Split your party into 2 groups - I had Dia, Rina and Luna take out the nearby [SUCCUBUS] on the left and have Althea, Roland and Sadie go up front towards where Fatima and Josie is, slowly make your way removing any enemy that got in your way, assuming you've fill up enough FDs unleash it all on both Fatima and Josie Oh, watch out for reinforcements that appear at the back (where you start the battle). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Both woman and cat will escape by flying (that's cheating, right?) the only safe way to travel to the Conclusion Gate is by the "Omni Yacht" -_- seriously, a yatch? I was expecting an Omni SUBMARINE or something. FDs will play a very, very important role from here on out (if you're around my level then almost everyone and their dog will have their Lv. 3 Flash Drive mastered). By the way I suggest that you check your inventory for any extra [MEDITATE] Lapis and equip it on any characters that you will be using heavily for their Arts and Magics like the Witches. The "Bell Of Silence" will make its first debut in 4000 years (the way the bell is ringing is kinda creepy, I don't know--I'm playing in the dark!), a slightly long-ish cutscene will take place and you'll have to make some choices, here's what I've picked: � "Okay, it's your moment." Richter will only move forward when you've wiped out most of the minions before him and doing so will also trigger a couple of reinforcements, be sure to wipe away all [HIMAGES] or you'll have a difficult time dealing with their magic attack. I used Roland to slay Richter at level 37 (38 actually) Roland's [FRACTURE SLASH] did about 590+ HP damage and sir Richter only did 160+ HP damage to my Roland, sweeeet, yes?! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- � AFTERMATH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fatima'll unite, and having Fatima in your party is simply the best thing since becoming fugitive, I assure you. You'll definitely use this sadistic bitch with the whip more than the other Witches, except for Luna which you must use all the time for her [PURIFYING WATER]. Very sweet, indeed. Next stop [CALCUS HIGHWAY]. - TO BE CONTINUED - ___________________________________________________________________________ S I D E Q U E S T S (02^) ###################### THE TIME CAPSULE (TC_) ###################### The [TIME CAPSULE] side quest can be done as soon as Chapter 4 begins (I'm not sure when it expires?) but as soon as you're in Chapter 4 this quest can be triggered before or after saving Althea (I think?) I did this right after I've cured the Witch of her fever but then again it's not like you can use her or anyone else for this fight it's a battle for only three childhood friends. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOW DO WE...? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to [ROYAL CARNAVA] and into the [ROYAL LAB] talk to Rina when you're there and this will officialy triggers the side quest. Though, if you really need some kind of solid strategy then I'd suggest starting the fight with [RESTORE] for Roland, among the three Rina is the fastest so have her snipe and take down a couple of those minions. Since Mr. badass/rebel Rasche is a slowpoke, ALLOW HIM TO DEAL THE LAST BLOW so he can reap some fine EXP points to build up his level. That's pretty much it. ;) ___________________________________________________________________________ ################################ TRIPLE THIEVES -- SADIALUN (SD_) ################################ This side quest involving Kaph can be done in Chapter 18, I'm not sure if this is the chapter the side quest officially starts, but this IS the chapter that I got to do it and I'm not really sure when it will end so the moment you get to do it, do it! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOW DO WE...? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to [REV ACADEMY] in [TOFOLK REGION] and choose [FIND KAPH], the bugger will escape to his office which is located in [MISTIA] over at [CALZARD REGION] so go there. .--------------------. | INFORMATION WINDOW | |--------------------'-------------------------------------. | CHAPTER 18 SIDE QUEST: TRIPLE THIEVES -- SDIALUN, MISTIA | |-------------------.--------------------------------------'-------------. | PARTY'S FORMATION | Sadie Lv. 26. Cecillia will mention that she may have seen you (you as in the players, not Dia even if it has been potrayed as so) A YEAR AGO. Over in this section I'll list all the possible quests you can take up in the game. You can start doing quests in Chapter: 2 "A ROYAL PROMISE." Don't forget to claim your reward by visiting the Guild again, and for your info you can keep doing quest you've completed over and over again for the EXP and RICO and receive the same REWARD too... ~_^ well, isn't that just awesome?! Also, as an added tips you may want to equip [EXP +xx%] Lapis to those characters you wish to train (low on level) to increase the amount of EXP they gain after kill. The strategy here is to have someone who already has a very high speed go for the exit, use the other five party members to remove whatever enemy you're able to defeat and have the one with the highest speed to go for the [TARGET AREA] it's best to lure that level 26 moron to the group of baits in the back, and you slowly make your way towards the exit it may take a couple of tries to get this right. Keep everyone health up and you will emerge victorious. Roland's quite a softy (I don't mean the sissy type) and is easily influenced; just a little push from his team mates and he's all up and ready, especially if it's a "push" from Althea the Beast. Roland is a FIEND! He pretty much excel in every stats, especially his ATK power rating, it skyrocketted a little bit when he becomes a Master. But seeing as how he is a required character it doesn't really matter if he sucks or not cause you'll be forced to use him anyway. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- RASCHE --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roland's older brother, always saying the wrong things and getting hit on the head (I think) by Sir Steven, Rasche may seem like he doesn't think before he talks, truth is he's just being honest. Oh, Roland is not his brother by blood but it doesn't bother good ol' Rasche! Rasche suffers from SPD issue, his ATK power is pretty average too.
