~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, this is my first GameFAQS faq, for Touch! Kirby, known as Kirby
Canvas Curse in America. I borrowed the game from a friend after he
imported it, and decided to write a nice FAQ before most other people
had a chance to. The game's levels really aren't the type of things you
need an FAQ for, so I decided to do a miscellaneous one, for things
like the bosses and unlockables. I'll most probably be calling the game Touch!
Kirby throughout this guide instead of the American name, as I prefer it.
Anyhoo, on that note, on with the FAQ!
Version History
(Dates in Europe style)
Finished doing the tables and I'm rather proud of them.
Added a couple of section and wrote out the Time/ Rainbow Trial Times. Because
I'm nice.
The invariable dilemma of what Kirby actually is has just arisen. He? She? It?
Expect a healthy variation for the duration of this FAQ
18/4/05
First decided to write an FAQ for this game. Unsurprisingly, didn't get too far.
Is it good? [Good?]
For those of you who don't know what this game is, Touch! Kirby is a game
wherein you indirectly control Kirby by drawing platform for him to roll on, to
the exit and through enemies, collecting stars as you go. You can get powers by
defeating enemies which'll help you, although you loose them if you take a hit.
As to the question, yes, I think it's a great game. It's not a long game, (you
can complete it in four or five hours) but with time trial and a limited paint
mode to master, as well as unlocking several other characters, it will take
several times that to get the full experience out of it. It is by no means the
DS' killer app, despite the fact it really does need one, just a very fun and
unique draw-your-own platformer game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Getting started [Starting]

Ignore this bit if it's the American version.
You should know what to do: boot up your DS to begin with. You should be
presented with a white screen with some rather funky looking Japanese characters
on. Tap the screen to continue. Choose a file by tapping it (stats appear on the
top screen). The game will save, tap to continue. The top blue option is what
you want to begin your quest. As I said before, have a look at Titney's
Translation FAQ to familiarize yourself with the menus. The only thing you
should really be aware of is the very bottom grey box (not in line with the
others). The third option in that will DELETE YOUR FILE. Use with care. Now
you've started your game, choose the only world you can from the rotating table,
choose one of the levels in that, and away you go! Read on to find out how
exactly to play...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Controlling Kirby [Contr]
In this game, you don't really control Kirby, but draw lines for Kirby to roll
along. As well as this, you can tap your little pink blob to activate its
current power, shown by what's circling it. You can also get a more in-depth
look at the current power if you speak Japanese by pressing start. And more.
Lines ~ Draw a stroke with your stylus to draw a line with your magic
paintbrush. Kirby will roll along it in the direction you drew it (if you did it
left to right, he'll roll right, and visa versa. As long as Kirby is moving,
he'll stay on the line, and can ever go upside down for a short while. Drawing a
loop the loop will speed Kirby up to plough through enemies, and drawing a
little ramp will, if Kirby is going fast enough, send her flying into the air.
Underwater, Kirby'll try to float to the surface, so you'll need to draw lines
above Kirby to stop it from rising. Also, lines can block lasers and cannons, so
use this to your advantage.
Power up! ~ By defeating an opponent that has a power (see the Powers section)
Kirby will gain a power to use. Tapping Kirby will activate it and, depending on
the power, another tap may deactivate it (for something like ice).
Stunning enemies ~ Tapping most enemies will stun them, allowing Kirby to kill
them and, if they have one, take their power. Be aware that this won't work on
everything you'll meet - thwomp-style enemies and spiky enemies, to name two,
won't be effected by being tapped, so you'll need to maneuver to avoid them. If
you roll Kirby into an un-stunned opponent, he'll take damage. However, if you
tap Kirby while she has no power, he'll do a speedy roll which'll take out
enemies that can be stunned, and take out some stunning doesn't effect at all.
Blocks ~ In your travels, you'll come across several types of block which can be
broken in some way. Big and small boxes with stars on will disappear when
tapped, while little blocks with a picture of a bomb on will, yep, detonate if
you tap them, maybe opening new paths or allowing medals to be snaffled. Little
grey blocks can be destroyed by hopping into one of the manually operated
cannons and firing yourself at them at supersonic speeds. Something which really
is quite fun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Powers [Powers]

Powers can be gained from defeating certain enemies. The problem is, if you take
any damage whatsoever while you have a power, you instantly loose it. Luckily
though, the enemies respawn so you can backtrack a little if you feel like it to
get it back. Pressing start will give you a detailed description of the power on
the bottom screen if you can read Japanese. In the lower left of the touch
screen, a little button will appear if you have a power. Tap it to disperse your
current power if you just don't like it, or to pick up another.

Balloon ~ Kirby puffs up into a balloon and can be inflated more by tapping him
again. After three taps though, he returns to normal size (but keeps the power
still). Kirby will bounce off lines you draw.

Spike ~ Kirby will change into a sun-like creature, which will stick into walls
and stay there. Useful for just hanging around...

Ice ~ Kirby turns into a block of ice which slides incredibly easily. Make sure
you don't loose control of it and send her careering into spikes though...

Fire spin ~ Tapping Kirby unleashes a spin of fire which goes round him once,
destroying destroyable enemies and blocks on contact.

Fire ~ Kirby does a fiery horizontal dash, which will travel through multiple
enemies. If done in mid air, it can be done repeatedly with a minimum loss of
height.

Lightning ~ A bolt of lightning shoots down from the heavens, destroying
anything above or close to Kirby.

Stone ~ Fwumph. Smash. =) Turn into a block of stone and plough through enemies
as you slide down slopes, landing on them from a great height. If you do this in
water, you'll sink like a... stone.

Wheel ~ One of the very fun ones. Kirby turns into a wheel that can cover open
ground very fast and can take out enemies with no problem. Draw a ramp for it
and watch it fly up into the air. Fun to abuse in the third bit of the very
first level.

Uber explosion ~ Big boom. Everything (I think) on screen goes boom. One use
only, so use it wisely for maximum effect.

Hammer ~ King Dedede only when you unlock him. Throws a hammer at the enemy.

Tornado ~ Kirby turns into a tornado which can fly through the air. Repeated
tapping will keep you afloat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things you'll find [TYFind]
Along your travels, you'll find a number of things, some of which are do be
avoided, others which will help you on your quest. Here goes with as many as I
can remember offhand:
Hazards:
Spikes ~ Obviously, avoid these as they'll hurt you on contact.
Electricity Blocks ~ These are like spikes, except they electrocute Kirby on
contact.
Lava ~ Found in the volcano levels. Like Electricity Blocks and Spikes, keep
your distance unless you want an instant-ready-kooka-Kirby.
Bottomless pits ~ Characterised by the little arrows pointing up, indicating
that you should indeed go up. Or instant death will follow.
Other things:
Large Star Blocks ~ Dispersed with a tap. Discussed earlier in the controls
section.
Small Star Blocks ~ Same as Large Star Blocks, except they're much smaller. Tap
to destroy.
Bomb Blocks ~ Tapping a bomb block will set off the bomb. This can let you
proceed, or give you access to a coin or something.
Stop Gate ~ Bumping into a Stop Gate will stop you, and you'll go again after
tapping Kirby. It's a good idea to tap Kirby several times, as just tapping once
results in a gentle roll forwards, and as they're generally used before
something you'll need to get the timing right on, (thwomps, rotating sticks of
fire) you won't want to leave yourself exposed.
Entrance ~ You enter the level through here, and you only see it for a few
seconds as Kirby falls from it.
Regular Exit ~ Black doorway with stars round the outside. Takes you to the next
part of a level.
Rainbow Exit ~ Signifies the end of the level - instead of a Regular Exit on the
third part of a level, you have a rainbow exit, which looks kinda like a rainbow
coloured painting.
Auto-cannons ~ Small cannons that fire you out automatically when you roll into
them.
Regular Manual Cannons ~ Large cannons that will fire you out very fast in a
fixed direction when you tap the purple button on them.
Swiveling Manual Cannons ~ Same as Regular Manual Cannons, except they turn, and
can fire you out in one of four directions. Tap the purple button when it's
aiming the right way to fire yourself out.
Coloured Blocks ~ Blocks that...block your way. They come in a couple of
different colours, and will disappear when you find a switch of the same colour,
although will come back if you hit it again.
Coloured Switches ~ Hit a coloured switch to make all the blocks of that colour
disappear. Hit it again to restore them. Sometimes come in dual colours -
hitting a switch will effect both colours (eg. Hitting a purple and green switch
will restore the green blocks, but make the purple ones disappear.
Speed Pad ~ Going onto this will speed you on your way in the direction
indicated by the arrows.
Sticky Pad ~ Stops you, and you can exit by tapping Kirby to make him jump off.
Sometimes used in conjunction with elevators, to stop you rolling off.
Elevators ~ These magical things travel along a fixed path and some are used in
conjunction with sticky pads to stop you rolling off.
Wind Turbines ~ As Kirby is a light little blob of pink, he can be supported in
mid air by wind turbines. There are two settings for turbines, one low, the
other high, and they can be changed by pressing that familiar purple button on
them. Low supports you a short distance away from the fan, while high propels
you up into the air, very useful for getting up ledges.
Gravity Atom ~ Found in the last level, these attract Kirby towards them and
swing her round, looking like one might imagine an atom to look like. Break free
by tapping Kirby or drawing a line away.
Lava ~ Found in the volcano levels. Like Electricity Blocks and Spikes, keep
your distance unless you want an instant-ready-kooka-Kirby.
Bottomless pits ~ Characterised by the little arrows pointing up, indicating
that you should indeed go up. Or instant death will follow.
Stars ~ Collect 100 of these shiny little things to receive a complimentary
life, free of charge. You don't have to touch them to collect them, just get
right next them.
Coins ~ There is one coin per section of each level, and they can be used to buy
things in the sort of slot machine mode (bottom option - the yellow one). There
are also 6 up for grabs for each level in Time Trial and Rainbow Trial (see the
modes section).
Water ~ Wa-ter. n.
1) A clear, colorless, odorless, and tasteless liquid, H2O, essential for most
plant and animal life and the most widely used of all solvents. Freezing point
0C; boiling point 100C.
2) A substance Kirby, unlike some other video game heros, can survive in.
Drawing lines above Kirby with your 'Magic Paintbrush' can force Kirby down and
control him underwater.
Other modes [Modes]
As well as the main game mode, there are two other game modes for you to enjoy:
Time Trial and Rainbow Trial, the name for the second I've just made up. You can
collect 3 medals for each of them for each level, a total of 6 medals per level.
Time Trial ~ Get from entrance to exit in the fastest time you can. For each set
time you beat, you get a coin. Times are in the table below:
Rainbow Trial ~ Complete the level only using a certain amount of paint from
your paintbrush. The ml to length changes for each level. You'll have more paint
to begin with if the level is harder than if it's easy. Just remember that
there's not time limit here, so take your time working out how you're going to
do it for maximum medals. (Your score is measured on how much paint you have
left).
How to use these tables: Say you took a time trial for the first stage, Plain
Plant. You got 16.21 seconds. You would get 2 medals as you beat the first two
times (19 seconds and 17 seconds, but not the third as you didn't beat 15
seconds. If you did a Rainbow Trial for the first stage and were left with 250ml
of paint left, you would win two medals.
Unlockables [Unlockables]
It may only take four or so hours to complete this game, but what with getting
the best time for Time Trial and Rainbow Trial, you can make it last a lot
longer. Also, where would a game like this be without unlockables? Read on to
find out more...
Ok, first things first, there are really two kinds of unlockables - the sort of
slot machine and the characters you can unlock.
The slot-like machine works by you putting medals into a choice. After a certain
amount of medals, the choice reveals itself. It may be something you want, it
may not be. I'm going to be making a list of all the things you can unlock. As I
have many other things to do as well as this FAQ, if you've unlocked any of the
things I haven't, email me at shiningyoshi{ at } gmail { dot } com and I'll give
you full credit.
Key:
Number (To help you find it)
Name (My name for it - my copy is Japanese, remember)
Type (What type of item it is)
Description (A description of the item)
Cost (How many shiny medals it'll cost you)
