The shopping channel is necessary for cooking, as it sells the kitchen and
it's utensils. It's the second channel of the Harvest Sprites' Station and
will be unlocked after you have bought something for a total of 10 days
 from Karen's Supermarket.
The shopping channel will change it's current item each week, so to get the
next item you will have to wait a week. To buy it, call the TV Shopping from
your phone list and pay - the item will be delivered after two days. To get
the utensils, you need to have bought the kitchen first. The order of the
 utensils appearing will be random.
For the kitchen to be available, your house needs to be upgraded once.

To cook, simply stand next to the kitchen, press A and choose to 'Cook
Something'. You then have to choose the ingredients - wether they are in
your rucksack or fridge - and then the utensil.
'Ceck Recipes' will list the recipes you have cooked up to then and you can
cook them instantly again if you press on the recipe and choose 'cook'. But
it will only work if all the ingredients are there.
You can also choose 'arrange' which will open the cooking menu with the
ingredients you had previously used and you can add or subtract something.

Held every year on Spring 22nd at the beach and seperated into two parts.
The first part is from 10 AM to 12 PM - talk to Gourmet to find out which
category it is this year. Leave and you automatically are back at home.
You can cook your dish now.
The second part is from 12 PM to 6 PM - bring your dish with you and talk
to Thomas to enter it and start the judging.
Once Gourmet has tasted everyone's dish, Thomas will announce the winner.

You can't compete in the first year, due to not having a kitchen. However,
you can participate by buying and using a Grape Juice from the Supermarket.
You won't win, but you participated.
Due to a glitch, the game freezes for the Oven category, so you can't
win that competition - just skip the day.

Most of the ingredients for cooking are found on your farm - your crops,
your livestock's produce - and the town, like the grasses and other wild
items. Karen sells you utensils you can't find via your work.

Black Grass - Dig up in any of the mines

Cheese/etc - Use appropriate makers from the Maker Shed

Shiitake - Found only in the Mushroom House
