Also, if you see this guide on any site other than GameFAQS, please let me know by email. I repeat again: This guide is ONLY for GameFAQS, and if posted elsewhere, I want to be told, and I want the credit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2) WHAT IS AN AUCTION Fauction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In FFTA2, instead of gaining Clan Territory by doing missions like in the first game, you participate in auctions once a year. In those auctions, you are given tokens, and you place those tokens up in real-time, like an auction. At the end, whoever has the highest bid gains the area. There are also prizes that you earn for reaching certain goals, such as a number of auctions you participate in, or the number of wins. For more information on those goals and the prizes you get, go to Part 4, Auction Goals & Prizes. Like before, when you gain control of an area, you gain some benefits. Here are the benefits you can earn: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -You will randomly be given an item from a shop from an area you own. -A rival clan will fight you, remarking on how you own the area, in some way or another. -You will earn discounts on LOCAL quest fees and shop items. (Only for areas with Pubs and Shops) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also, if you win all of the auctions in an area, and become the "Champions for life", you will auction for items, not territory, because you permanently own the territories. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) HOW DO YOU PLAY? Fplay ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- First, you start off by waiting for "Auctioning Season", which happens to be the first month of every year. Go to any town that has an auctioning house (Camoa, Grazton, etc.) and go on in. Go ahead and say you want to Enter, which will cost you 20 CP. If you have already unlocked the Token Shop, you can use it after entering. The prices for the Token Shop are as follows- ---------------------------- 1 Coin Token- 5 CP 2 Coin Token- 10 CP 3 Coin Token- 20 CP 5 Coin Token- 70 CP (!) ---------------------------- If, somehow, you have not yet unlocked the prizes for getting a certain # of Tokens, but you have unlocked the shop, the shop is a good way to meet the goal quickly. Now that you have bought your Tokens, start the auction. You'll have the option before each auction for an area to skip it, but this is pointless, and you may as well just pass every turn if you don't want to auction for that area, just to boost your PASS record. Now that you've started auctioning, you'd better learn how to play. The game tells you briefly how to auction, but there is much more behind the scenes than what you're told. First, I'll go over the basics... --------------------------------------------------------------------- - Each turn, press the button for the number of coins you want to wager. At the end of that turn, they will be added to your total for that round. - Every auction is divided into turns, which go at different speeds and are differently spaced. The length of time for each turn can be anywhere from painstakingly long, to just enough time to push the button. - Obviously, you compete against rival clans for the most amount of coins in a round to win the area. - If you are in a position indicated by a BONUS marker at the end of a round, (eg. BONUS 4th), you will gain a 5-coin Token at the end of that turn. - The reigning champion of an area (whoever had it before the auction) will recieve a 1-coin head start at the start of the auction. - There is a 30-coin limit for each round. If anyone reaches this goal, the round ends and they are declared the victor. - If there is a tie for 1st, the reigning champion (whoever had the title last time) will be declared the winner. - If there is a tie for 1st and neither of them are the reigning champs, the winner will be random. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, that's all there is to it, on the top. This FAQ will tell you all the details of how to win at every auction, since there is much more to mastering auctions than simply putting all of your 3 and 5 coin Tokens out whenever possible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4) READING THEIR NEXT MOVE Fmove ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There's no way you're going to scrape by and become Champion For Life if you don't conserve your tokens by barely beating your foes at each auction, and the only way to do that is to read their next move. This part is actually quite simple, as there are merely six different gestures to watch out for. (Look for the gestures made by the clan reps. from other clans, in case that wasn't clear) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - A speech bubble over their heads means that they're still talking to other clan members, and don't know what to do yet. This is very frusterating during quick turns, as this pose can last for a long time. - When they shake their heads and look down, they're going to pass the turn. Normally, they don't do this unless they're going for a bonus, or they simply don't have enough tokens. - If they strike a "Stare-Down" pose, by spreading their legs apart and staring forwards, they are going to use 1 coin this turn. - If they walk in place, they are going to use 2 coins. - If they punch at the air aggressively, they are going to use 3 coins. - If they raise their hands over their heads and a ! appears over their head, they are going to use 5 coins. This one is the easiest to spot, and you'd better watch out for it. Luckily, only one clan is able to do this WITHOUT getting a bonus. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, what do you do with this? In the beginning, it's going to be fairly hard (especially in larger auctions) to read everyone's movements at once. Instead, wait for a few turns, (I don't mean PASS, but just follow your instincts and do what seems smart) and wait for there to be one or two opponents that clearly want to win. In that case, try to start off getting one coin ahead of them, then mimic their every move. This way, you can scrape by with using just the amount you need. While that was just a basic strategy, later on, I'll update this FAQ an include much more in-depth strategies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5) AUCTION GOALS AND PRIZES Fprizes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After a set of auctions, a record of the following catagories will be updated: - Games Played - Bonuses Earned - 1st Place Finishes - 2nd Place Finishes - 3rd Place Finishes - 1 Token Coins Obtained - 2 Token Coins Obtained - 3 Token Coins Obtained - 5 Token Coins Obtained - Turns Passed You will gain prizes for "Mastering" a catagory. To master it, you must reach a certain number for them. The bar next to the catagory will fill up accordingly, and once if fills all the way up, a star will appear next to it, and it will be mastered. Here is a list of the number you need to match the catagories. !!! This Section is not yet complete. Sorry... !!! ------------------------------- - Games Played - 15 - Bonuses Earned - 20 - 1st Place Finishes - 5 - 2nd Place Finishes - 5 - 3rd Place Finishes - 5 - 1 Token Coins Obtained - 10 - 2 Token Coins Obtained - 10 - 3 Token Coins Obtained - 10 - 5 Token Coins Obtained - 10 - Turns Passed - 30 ------------------------------- Seperate from this, there is a menu that shows you how you can earn auction related prizes. Here are the requirements, as well as the prizes you earn. (Prize descriptions will be listed after this list) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Requirement - - Prize - Control all the areas in a region Champions for Life Master # of games played Token shop opens Master # of Bonuses obtained Ribbon Master # of 1st place victories *Help?* Master # of 2nd place finishes Elixir Master # of 3rd place finishes 10,000 Gil Master # of 1-coin Tokens obtained 1-coin Tokens + Master # of 2-coin Tokens obtained 2-coin Tokens + Master # of 3-coin Tokens obtained 3-coin Tokens + Master # of 5-coin Tokens obtained 5-coin Tokens + Master # of Passes 200 CP ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Champions for Life- You will permenantly gain control of the areas for that auction house. Instead of auctioning for area, you will auction for useful items. !!! You cannot earn this in your first Auction. !!! Token Shop opens- You will be able to access the token shop before auctions. For token prices, go to the beginning of Part 3 of this FAQ. 1-coin Tokens + - At the start of an auction, you have an extra 1-coin token. 2-coin Tokens + - At the start of an auction, you have an extra 2-coin token. 3-coin Tokens + - At the start of an auction, you have an extra 3-coin token. 5-coin Tokens + - At the start of an auction, you have a 5-coin token. (Hehehe) Elixer- Item that fully restores target's HP and MP. 10,000 Gil- Duh. 10k gil. Ribbon - It's not an auction related item, but oh well. In case you don't know, a Ribbon is a Female-only item (Adelle, Gria or Viera, with the exception of a unit with ribbon-bearer) that blocks ALL Debuffs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6) AUCTION HOUSE AND AREA LOCATIONS Flocation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This section is simply a list of where the auction houses are, and what areas are up for grabs there. This is listed again in section 7, but this is the quickest way to find what you can get in each location. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Auction House Location- -Areas up for grabs- Camoa Camoa, Targ Wood, Baptiste Hill Graszton Graszton, The Bisga Greenlands, The Aldanna Range, Zedlei Forest Moorabella Moorabella, The Galerria Deep, The Rupie Mountains, The Ruins of Delgantua Fluorgis Fluorgis, Tramdine Fens, Sant D'alsa Bluff, Nazan Mines Goug Goug, Aisenfield, Kthili Sands, The Neslowe Passage ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7) FULL AUCTION DETAILS Fdetails ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This section is composed of the full, in-depth details of each auction. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A NOTE ON AUCTIONS!!! While most of the time, auctions follow the EXACT layout described here, sometimes, the bonuses are completely random. HOWEVER! This normally happens with only 1-3 auctions per season (as in, individual auctions, not a whole set) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This includes: - How many tokens you start off with (not including the token + bonuses) - Which clans you will face - Most determined rival clan (which clan will normally come in 1st) - Complete details of each turn in an auction, including length and bonuses - A brief description of what you should do in that auction WAIT! First, before you go on, I must explain something quickly. When describing the turns in an auction, for the length, I will describe them as Very Short, Short, Medium, Long, and Very Long. TOO SHORT = 1/2 second Very Short = 1 second Short = 1.5 seconds Medium = 2 seconds Long = 3 seconds Very Long = 4 seconds ___________________________________________________________ Auction House --- Camoa Starting Tokens --- |6| 1-Tokens, |5| 2-Tokens, |6| 3-Tokens. Rival Clans --- Camoa Braves, House Minymum, House Eden. Auction 1 --- Camoa Most Determined --- Camoa Braves - Turn 1 - Very Long, No Bonuses - Turn 2 - Very Long, No Bonuses - Turn 3 - Very Long, No Bonuses - Turn 4 - Very Long, No Bonuses - Turn 5 - Very Long, No Bonuses - Turn 6 - Very Long, No Bonuses Stategy --- Your very first auction, and the easiest. It's easy to read the movements of the Camoa Brave since you have so much time each turn, so try to stay just one ahead of them, to conserve tokens for later. Auction 2 --- Targ Wood Most Determined --- House Minymum / Eden - Turn 1 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Long, 1st Place Bonus - Turn 3 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Long, No Bonus Stategy --- Not much harder than the first one. Just get a lead in the beginning at all costs, and stick with it. The bonus is well worth it! Auction 3 --- Baptiste Hill Most Determined --- Camoa Braves - Turn 1 - Long, 3rd Place Bonus - Turn 2 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Long, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 5 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 6 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Long, No Bonus Strategy --- That 3rd place bonus at the beginning may seem nice, but it's hard to get. read the movements right, and you may just get it. Go for the 2nd place bonus, since it's easier to get. Go all out after it, since this is already the last auction in this house. ___________________________________________________________ Auction House --- Graszton Starting Tokens --- |10| 1-Tokens, |6| 2-Tokens, |6| 3-Tokens. Rival Clans --- All Loar Side except Air Bandits Auction 1 --- Graszton Most Determined --- Grazton Shipyard - Turn 1 - Very Long, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Very Long, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 6 - Short, No Bonus Strategy --- The only thing special about this one is the introduction of varying turn lengths. Just keep ahead of the best clan, and it'll be easy. Auction 2 --- The Bisga Greens Most Determined --- ANY AND ALL/ Culinary Crusade - Turn 1 - Very Long, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Very Long, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 3 - Very Long, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Very Long, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Very Long, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 6 - Very Long, No Bonus Strategy --- This one is nice and long, so you can easily read movements. Also, both the bonuses are for 2nd place, which means you should be able to get them both. If you aren't too sure of your abilites yet, at least get one. Auction 3 --- The Aldanna Range Most Determined --- ANY AND ALL/ Culinary Crusade - Turn 1 - Medium, 3rd Place Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 3 - Medium, 1st Place Bonus Strategy --- This one is screaming for you to get all the bonuses. Don't. This is an easy one to win, because the other clans are obsessing over the 3rd and 2nd place bonuses. Win this one, and grab the 1st Place bonus. It'll be nice to have for the last auction. Auction 4 --- Zedlei Forest Most Determined --- - Turn 1 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, 4th Place Bonus - Turn 3 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Medium, 1st Place Bonus - Turn 5 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 6 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Short, No Bonus Strategy --- Come on, this is the last auction! Go all out! The 1st place bonus should give you a little push, so just keep on using your best tokens! ___________________________________________________________ Auction House --- Moorabella Starting Tokens --- |9| 1-Tokens, |10| 2-Tokens, |8| 3-Tokens. Rival Clans --- ANY AND ALL (Loar Side) Auction 1 --- Moorabella Most Determined --- Culinary Crusade - Turn 1 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Long, 5th Place Bonus - Turn 4 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Long, 4th Place Bonus - Turn 6 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 8 - Long, 2nd Place Bonus Strategy --- Ugh. The Sky Bandits and Culinary Crusade will have you spending many, MANY of your tokens on this one. If you can, USE THE TOKEN SHOP. In fact, don't even try becoming Champions for Life until you can buy a few extra 5-Tokens. Also, IGNORE THE BONUSES. Auction 2 --- The Galerria Deep Most Determined --- House Prost (Wow, not Culinary Crusade!) - Turn 1 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Medium, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 4 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Short, 4th Place Bonus Strategy --- Go for the 2nd Place bonus. Then, use that boost at the last two turns, because you're going to need it, since most of the other clans got that 4th Place Bonus, and will probably use it in the next round, meaning it's going to be VERY difficult. Auction 3 --- The Rupie Mountains Most Determined --- Air Bandits/ Culinary Crusade - Turn 1 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Short, 3rd Place Bonus - Turn 5 - Very Short, No Bonus - Turn 6 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus Strategy --- This one gets shorter, and shorter and shorter... Luckily, the other clans usually don't use more than 10 tokens if you can get a big lead. Use three 3-Tokens at the beginning, then try to just use 2 and 1 Tokens until the end. Auction 4 --- The Ruins of Delgantua Most Determined --- Culinary Crusade - Turn 1 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 6 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 8 - Medium, No Bonus Strategy --- This one is simple. It's the last auction, and no bonuses. GO ALL OUT. By now, most of the other clans have next to no tokens left. ___________________________________________________________ Auction House --- Fluorgis Starting Tokens --- |8| 1-Tokens, |8| 2-Tokens, |8| 3-Tokens. Rival Clans --- House Eden, Jystras Mercantile, Goug Consortium, Naturalist So. The Jystras Group Auction 1 --- Fluorgis Most Determined --- EVERYONE (But House Eden) - Turn 1 - Very Long, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Short, 4th Place Bonus - Turn 5 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 6 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Short, No Bonus Strategy --- AGH! This one is a major pain! The other clans go all out, which means that you have to, too. Still, if you have any 5-Tokens, save them. For some odd reason, House Eden does absolutely nothing (Usually) in this one. Auction 2 --- Tramdine Fens Most Determined --- The Jystras Group, Jystras Mercantile. - Turn 1 - Very Short, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Very Short, 1st Place Bonus - Turn 3 - Very Short, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 4 - Medium, 5th Place Bonus - Turn 5 - Very Short, No Bonus - Turn 6 - Very Short, 3rd Place Bonus Strategy --- This one is VERY fast paced. Still, make sure you get the 1st Place bonus near the beginning, and use it to boost you through. Auction 3 --- Sant D'Alsa Bluff Most Determined --- Naturalist Society - Turn 1 - Short, 5th Place Bonus - Turn 2 - Long, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 6 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Very Short, 1st Place Bonus Strategy --- Triiiicky. For this one... Eh... just make sure you win. Also, you NEED to cut it close, since your opponents are so determined to win. Auction 4 --- Nazan Mines Most Determined --- Naturalist Society, Jystras Group - Turn 1 - Very Short, No Bonus - Turn 2 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus - Turn 3 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus - Turn 4 - TOO SHORT, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 5 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus - Turn 6 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus Strategy --- Unless you abused the shop, you'll probably be out of good tokens by now. Just make sure you get the 2nd place bonus, then play two 5-Tokens at the very end to win. This one is gonna be a close victory... ___________________________________________________________ Auction House --- Goug Starting Tokens --- |2| 1-Tokens, |2| 2-Tokens, |2| 3-Tokens. Rival Clans --- ANY AND ALL Auction 1 --- Goug Most Determined --- Goug Consortium - Turn 1 - Medium, 4th Place Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Medium, 4th Place Bonus - Turn 4 - Short, No Bonus Strategy --- YOU NEED THAT FIRST BONUS. There are very few tokens available, so unless you bought lots of 3-Tokens in the shop, you're going to need every last 1-Token. BE CONSERVATIVE. Auction 2 --- Aisenfield Most Determined --- Goug Consortium - Turn 1 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 2 - Very Short, 2nd Place Bonus - Turn 3 - TOO SHORT, 3rd Place Bonus - Turn 4 - TOO SHORT, 1st Place Bonus - Turn 5 - TOO SHORT, 3rd Place Bonus - Turn 6 - Short, No Bonus Strategy --- Try to get the 2nd place and 1st place bonuses. That's really all there is to say, other than to BE CONSERVATIVE. Auction 3 --- Kthili Sands Most Determined --- Prima Donna - Turn 1 - Long, 5th Place Bonus - Turn 2 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 4 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Medium, 3rd Place Bonus - Turn 6 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Medium, No Bonus - Turn 8 - Short, No Bonus Strategy --- AAARGH. You're probably out of Tokens by now, and chances are, the other clans aren't. Just try to struggle through this one... you kinda NEED to use the Token Shop... Auction 4 --- The Neslowe Passage Most Determined --- Whoever still has tokens >_> - Turn 1 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 2 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus - Turn 3 - Short, 3rd Place Bonus - Turn 4 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus - Turn 5 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 6 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus - Turn 7 - Short, No Bonus - Turn 8 - TOO SHORT, No Bonus Strategy --- ARGHGHGHGH. If you don't get that bonus, you're doomed. GET IT. Then, use the couple tokens you have left. This is the FINAL auction in the game (if you've beaten all the others), so it's SUPPOSED to be hard. ___________________________________________________________ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8) ITEMS WON FROM AUCTIONS Fitems ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are so many items that can be won from auctions, it is extremely hard to get a complete list. Despite that, most of the items that can be won are listed here. I have gone through more than 60 auctions to find these items, so most, possibly even all, of the items will be listed here. Also, since I've seen each of the Grand Prizes several times, I'm almost positive that I have all of them listed. Also, a quick tip discovered by Gabriel- "I've discovered a little trick for getting the items you want from the auction house. If you save your game just before the auction house season starts, you will be able to reload your game over and over until the auction house spawns a treasure pool that has items you want from it." A: I didn't decide to make this FAQ until I had already long-since mastered them. I still have to start a new file and play though long enough to figure it out. Sorry for the trouble... D= Q: Your Strategy for ********** isn't that good. A: I'm not the master of Auctions, so if you want, just disregard my suggestion and do what you want. These are the ways I found easiest to win every auction in that set. Q: ********************* is incorrect. A: While that isn't a question, if there's any part of the FAQ that is incorrect or is unclear, please let me know, by GameFAQS or by email. Q: Some things look uneven, marginwise. A: Yeah... I had no idea about the margin limit until I submitted the FAQ. Sorry about this...
