It made its way to the DS on July 22, 2008. It differs from the original in several ways, being that is in 3D rather than 2D. In addition, the in-game scenes are voiced by voice actors, rather than you just reading text on the screen. The story is still the same though, save for an added scene where Cecil and Golbez are shown with Kluya, and an added scene where Cecil and Kain are shown as children when they first meet. There are also a few additional things that were added to this game. All in all, there isn't a heavy load of new features that would make this game not feel like Final Fantasy IV. |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| | 2. Version History | |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| Version 1.6 / (8/19/08) / Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been very busy. As a result, haven't been able to accomplish much. Walkthrough up to the Crystal Palace, just as you enter the crystal room to reach Lunar Subterrane. Shops section is complete, but unfortunately, the Augments section remains untouched. Sorry about that. I made a promise, and should've kept it. All side quests are done, too. Version 1.5 / (8/08/08) / Walkthrough is now past the Sealed Cave. In addition, finished the Sylph Cave and almost all of The Feymarch. Still haven't typed up the Leviathan strategy yet, but that'll come with the next update. Expect the Augments section to be completed fully with the next update, also. Version 1.4 (8/04/08) / Walkthrough up to the start of the Sealed Cave. Also, did some very slight work on the Side Quests section, and also finally added some Augments in the Augments section, though only up to Eye Gouge (going alphabetically, that isn't very far). Version 1.0 (7/25/08) / Started the guide. |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| | 3. Characters | |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| NOTE: Each character has their own special abilities, which I will list after their biographies. Cecil: Cecil is the Dark Knight of Baron and captain of the Red Wings, Baron's royal air force, who has trained under King Baron to use the Dark Sword. Baron has been a father to Cecil all his life, but lately something has been wrong with the king. He seeks crystals, and will kill anyone, even innocent people for a crystal. King Baron gives no real reason why he must obtain the crystals, but he will resort to any means to get his hands on them. Cecil eventually rebels against King Baron, becomes a Paladin after conquering the darkness within himself, defeats King Baron, who was a monster all along and not a human, then finally Cecil and his friends destroy the evil Zeromus, who was the one behind the whole crystal hunting incidents. Cecil's Abilities ----------------- Darkness (Dark Knight) Descrition: This ability allows Cecil to charge his sword up for a powerful physical attack. It uses up one turn, so you can't use Darkness and attack in the same turn (there has to be some balance, you know). When it becomes Cecil's turn again, however, you can use a physical attack twice as powerful as the normal one, but at the cost of some of Cecil's HP. If you use Darkness more than once without attacking with a physical attack, it won't make a difference in how long the effect lasts. Cover (Paladin) Description: When used, Cecil will take the damage for another party member, rather than that party member taking the damage from a phyiscal attack. Off (Paladin) Description: When used, this command makes it where Cecil stops taking damage for that particular partner (only available if Cover is in effect). White Magic (Paladin) Description: This is where all Cecil's magic spells that help your group are stored. Kain: Kain is Cecil's best friend, and is also a Dragoon. Dragoons are people who jump on their foes to attack, basically. Kain and Cecil travel to Mist Cave to go to Village Mist to deliver a package from the king of Baron to that village, only to find out that the package will burn the village completely. Kain is later mind controlled by Golbez (after he disappears from your group in the Village Mist incident), who is the supposed main villain at the time, and for much of the game for that matter. Kain rejoins Cecil a couple times and gets mind controlled a couple times. Basically, he can't make up his mind who he wants to fight with. Kain's Abilities ---------------- Jump Description: By using this command in battle, Kain will be able to jump in the air for quite a few seconds, then jump down onto the selected target to do damage. This command is especially useful in the earlier parts of the game, but it gets noticably useless mid to late game. Rosa: Rosa is a White Mage, and Cecil's friend. After Cecil and Kain go to deliver the king's package to Village Mist, she is filled with sorrow and longs for Cecil to return, and she journeys to the desert town of Kaipo, but ends up with severe fever which can only be cured by the Sand Pearl. Cecil and two other people (I won't tell you who they are so that you won't be spoiled) get the Sand Pearl shortly after seeing the sick Rosa in Kaipo, then they give it to her, she is healed, and then she joins Cecil and his friends in their quest to stop Golbez from getting his hands on the crystals. Rosa's Abilities ---------------- Aim Description: This command is only accessible if you have a bow and arrow equipped on Rosa. This allows Rosa to hit the selected target with an arrow with more accuracy than she would have normally without this command. Pray Description: Rosa prays. Heals 15% of HP and 10% of MP of all party members if it succeeds. White Magic Description: This is where all Rosa's magic spells that help your group are stored. Rydia: Rydia is a little girl from Village Mist. Her mother died because Kain and Cecil, not knowing, killed her mother's dragon in Mist Cave on their way to Village Mist. Rydia attacks Cecil and Kain for killing her mother, because not only did she lose her mother, her entire village was burnt up because of the king's package Cecil and Kain delivered. After attacking Cecil and Kain, Rydia is taken to Kaipo by Cecil and she rests there at the Inn for the night, recovers, and joins Cecil in his quest to stop Golbez after Cecil saves her from some Baron guards seeking to kill her. Later, Rydia is swallowed by Leviatan, the legendary beast of the sea, and she later rescues Cecil from Golbez's clutches and rejoins your group as an adult with much greater Black Magic than as a kid, and she even has some new summons (yes, Rydia is a summoner; this wouldn't be a Final Fantasy game without one). Overall, Rydia is a VERY useful party member! Rydia's Abilities ----------------- Black Magic (Kid/Adult Rydia) Description: This is where all Rydia's magic attacks that harm enemies/bosses are stored. Summon (Kid/Adult Rydia) Description: This allows Rydia to summon monsters to help you in the current battle you're in. Some are not useful, but most are. Some summons heal your group, while others hurt the enemy/boss you are fighting. White Magic (Kid Rydia) Description: This is where all Rydia's magic spells that help your group are stored. Tellah: Tellah is an old man who is a sage. He used to know a plethora of very effective magic spells, but unfortunately, he's forgot almost every single one of those powerful spells, and only knows a few, and the ones he does know are rather weak. Tellah first joins Cecil when he sees that Cecil is a Dark Knight. He asks for Cecil's help because he needs to defeat a huge octopus with eight tentacles in order to get to Damcyan Castle, where his daughter, Anna, ran off to to get married to a bard (who is actually the Prince of Damcyan disguised as a bard) named Edward. Tellah did not consent to the marriage of Anna and Edward, and Tellah feels that something evil is brewing in the direction of Damcyan, and wants to get there as quickly as possible to see if his feeling is correct. Cecil and Tellah do eventually make it to Damcyan, where they find Anna died, because she shielded Edward, who is a coward, from arrows that threatened to take his life. Tellah then leaves Damcyan in search for Golbez, who was the one really responsible for taking the life of Anna (Tellah originally thought it was Edward who had killed her). Tellah later rejoins Cecil on Mt. Ordeals in his quest to become a Paladin, then Tellah regains all the spells he had forgotten, and becomes a valuable party member for a short time after that! Tellah's Abilities ------------------ Black Magic Description: This is where all Tellah's magic spells that harm enemies/bosses are stored. White Magic Description: This is where all Tellah's magic spells that help your group are stored. Recall Description: Allows Tellah to potentially use forgotten spells. It doesn't always work, though, and he sometimes uses spells he already has. Edward: Edward is the Prince of Damcyan, though he pretends to be a bard. He is in love with Tellah's daughter, Anna. Anna shields Edward from some arrows that threatened to take his life when Baron attacked Damcyan in search of the crystal there. Edward is blamed by Tellah for Anna's death, though in truth it was Golbez, not Edward, who killed Anna (Golbez was responsible for the attack on Damcyan, thus is guilty of killing her). After Tellah leaves Damcyan, Edward joins Cecil and his friends in their quest to find the SandRuby to cure Rosa's fever. They eventually end up finding the SandRuby, then they give it Rosa, she recovers, joins the group, like you'd expect. Edward is sent into the water when he and the group encounter the beast of the sea, Leviatan. Edward is not seen until your group journeys to Toroia Castle to get the Earth Crystal. Edward is a very useless character, to be honest, though thankfully you don't get him for very long. Edward's Abilities ------------------ Hide Description: When used, Edward will hide from the enemy/boss you're fighting like the coward he is. You won't be able to use him at all during the time of his hiding, but to get him out of hiding, simply use the Show command, which appears when you hide. Note that Edward will automatically hide after he is kneeling down (meaning he is about to die), and you'll never be able to get him to show himself either, even if you use the Show command. Show Description: When Edward is hiding, use this command to bring him back into the battlefield. Note that this command is useless if Edward hides due to low HP. Salve Description: Allows you to use items on all of your party, thus converting items from ST to MT. Bardsong Description: This command allows Edward to sing a song. Unlike in the other versions of the game, you can choose which song you want to play. Each song has a different effect on the enemy. Different songs are acquired through leveling up. Yang: Yang is a Karate Master in the kingdom of Fabul. All of the other karate fighters in the kingdom are only at their training level, whereas Yang is a master. Yang is first met by your group on Mt. Hobs when he is ambushed by some bombs. He quickly disposes of those, but then gets attacked by a huge monster formed of several bombs, then your group comes to aid, defeats the monster, then Yang joins your group. Yang and your group then travel to Fabul to stop Baron from obtaining the crystal from Fabul. They arrive just in time, as a decisive battle takes place within the walls of the castle. Yang and your group ultimately win that battle, only to have Golbez capture Rosa. Golbez also manages to get his hands on the crystal. After the incident in Fabul, Yang and your group set sail on a boat bringing them to Baron, where Leviatan, the beast of the sea, appears. Rydia gets swallowed by Leviatan, and Yang goes after her. Yang is never seen again until your visit to Baron, where he rejoins your group after you defeat him in his mind controlled state. I won't spoil anything else about Yang here, just know that he is one of your best party members, and you'll have him for a long time. Yang's Abilities ---------------- Kick Description: When used, Yang will use a kick to attack all the enemies that are currently in the battle. This ability is not very useful. It's not useful because you deal a very low amount of damage to the enemies when you use this. Brace Description: Increases Yang's Defense. Focus Description: Raises Yang's Attack Power. Can be stacked (used) up to three times, meaning each time you use it, your Attack Power goes up. After you attack once Focus has been used three times, it goes back to 0, and you have to use it again. Palom: Palom is a student that trains under the elder of Mysidia in the ways of Black Magic. Palom is a young boy, who has a twin sister named Porom. Palom and Porom are sent by the elder of Mysidia to go with Cecil to Mt. Ordeals, where he wishes to become a Paladin, though in truth they are not meant to accompany him, but spy on him and if need be, destroy him (because of his actions in Mysidia in the beginning of the game). After Cecil becomes a Paladin and arrives back at Mysidia, Palom and Porom reveal to him that they were sent to spy on him, rather than accompany him. After Cecil becomes a Paladin, the elder of Mysidia allows Palom and Porom to accompany (not spy) Cecil on his way to Baron. Palom and Porom turn themselves into stone when the walls threaten to crush Cecil and the others after they defeat Cagnazzo, the Fiend of Water, in Baron. Palom and Porom aren't seen again until near the end of the game, when the elder of Mysidia removes their petrification (though you never get to see the elder remove their petrification). Palom is a great asset to your group, though you only get him for a short time. Palom's Abilities ----------------- Black Magic Description: This is where all Palom's magic spells that harm enemies/bosses are stored. Twincast Description: If Porom is alive and Palom is alive, you can use this command with either of the twins to use either Pyroblast or Comet on all enemies onscreen for good to great damage. Bluff Description: Raises Palom's Intellect, making his magic spells hurt more. Porom: Porom is a student that trains under the elder of Mysidia in the ways of White Magic. Basically, Porom is a White Mage, unlike her brother Palom, who is a Black Mage. Porom and Palom were sent by the elder of Mysidia to spy on Cecil and kill him if need be when he went to Mt. Ordeals to cast out the darkness within himself and become a Paladin. Luckily, Porom and Palom never have to lay a finger on Cecil, since he actually becomes a Paladin and has no evil intentions after that. Porom and Palom accompany Cecil after his visit to Mt. Ordeals, because the elder of Mysidia allows them to. Porom and Palom turn themselves into stone to save Cecil and the group from walls that threaten to crush them after their fight with Cagnazzo. Porom and Palom are never seen until near the end of the game, when they help destroy the Giant of Bab-il (the elder removed their petrification status, which is how they became alive again) and bring peace to the world! Porom is definitely a great asset to your team for the short time that you get her. She is even better than Tellah until he remembers all the spells he had forgotten. Porom's Abilities ----------------- Twincast Description: If Palom is alive and Porom is alive, you can use this command with either of the twins to use either Pyroblast or Comet on all enemies onscreen for good to great damage. Cry Description: Lowers the Defense of all enemies on screen by 50% if it is successful. White Magic Description: This is where all Porom's magic spells that help your group are stored. Cid: Cid is the engineer in the kingdom of Baron, who makes airships for the kingdom. Cid was thrown in prison by King Baron for refusing to make an airship that would be used a killing machine. Cid is eventually released from prison, and joins your group and gives them a new airship after the fight with Cagnazzo, with which they can use to travel arond the earth a lot faster. Cid leaves your group fairly soon after you get him, and he isn't a very good party member. Cid's Abilities --------------- Analyze Description: When used, this command allows Cid to scan the HP, as well as the weaknesses of the selected target. Note that you can't use this command on bosses. Upgrade Description: Allows Cid's currently equipped weapon to take on a different elemental property (i.e. from Earth to Fire). Edge: Edge is the Prince of Eblan Castle, and he also happens to be a very arrogant ninja. Edge is first met by your group when he is fighting the last of the Four Fiends, the Fiend of Fire, Rubicant. Edge is injured in the fight, and is healed by Rosa. Edge then joins your group, and you have him for the whole game after that. Edge also likes Rydia. Edge seeks to defeat Rubicant to avenge his mother and father's death. Dr. Lugae turned both Edge's parents into monsters, and so Edge blames Rubicant for that and seeks to kill Rubicant to avenge his parents. Edge eventually succeeds in defeating Rubicant. Edge may have extremely weak defense (he's definitely not what you'd expect for a ninja in terms of defense, that's for sure), but his Dart command is quite valuable, and that's what makes him a good party member to have. Edge's Abilities ---------------- Steal Description: When used, Edge will attempt to steal an item from the selected target. This is pretty useful. Throw Description: Edge can throw a wide-vareity of weapons at the selected target when you use this. Be sure you don't use this command unless you are in a boss fight, otherwise you'll waste items. Ninjutsu Description: This is Edge's magic, basically. Edge starts off with very little ninja skills, In time, however, they grow until he has quite a few ninja skills at his disposal. This is a fairly useful ability, especially in the fight against the Four Fiends in the Giant of Babil. Fusoya: Fusoya is a Lunarian who lives on the Moon. Fusoya has some connection with Cecil and Golbez, as well as Zemus, who is the true main villain of the game (Golbez was suspected to be the main villain throughout much of the game). Fusoya also an extremely powerful Black Magic user and White Magic user, and is a very valuable party member for the short time that you get him. Fusoya's Abilities ------------------ Black Magic Description: This is where all Fusoya's magic spells that harm enemies/bosses are stored. Storyline | |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| The kingdom of Baron, a prosperous, powerful kingdom, has recently begun to grow corrupt. More specifically, its king has become corrupt, ordering his followers to kill innocent people in order to obtain Crystals, which he claims Baron needs for its prosperity. Growng discontent with the king's orders, Cecil, the leader of Baron's air force the Red Wings, eventually finds the courage to rebel against the king after he and his best friend Kain, deliver a package to the village of Mist, where monsters come out and burn the village, killing all but one person in it, a little girl named Rydia. Seeing this gives Cecil the courage and motivation to do something to undermine his wicked king. |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| | 6. Game Basics | |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| There are a lot of game basics in the game, which I will explain within this section. Battle System ------------- The battle system in Final Fantasy II is simple, and works just like most FF battle systems. You are in a screen where you see enemies on one side, and your party on the other. There are several types of fights you can get into, which I will list below (though do note that regardless of what type of battle you get yourself into, the object remains the same: attack the enemies until they are defeated, and you'll emerge victorious and gain experience points, money, and sometimes items): Preemptive Strike! ------------------ In this fight, your characters are on the right side, while the enemies are on the left side. Strike First ------------ In this fight, you get to take your turns first, allowing you to attack the enemies before they can attack you. This is a very cool battle you can get yourself into. Attacked From Behind -------------------- In this battle, you are attacked from behind, meaning the enemies are on the east side, and your characters are on the left side. You take less damage from attacks in this battle, and you also deal less damage. Surprise! --------- A surprise battle is where the enemies are on the right, and your group is on the left. The enemies get to attack first, and your group deals less damage than normal. This battle can also occur when your characters are on the right and the enemies on the left, like a normal battle, and the enemies get to attack first then as well. NOTE: You can run away from any battle except for a boss battle. Also, when you run away, you lose a small amount of money. Menu Screen ----------- The menu screen is what you'll be using for the entire game, as it's where you use items, heal your characters, equip weapons and armor, all that good stuff. I'll explain everything about it below. Inventory --------- This is the first option on the menu screen, which you'll be using quite a bit throughout the game. This option allows you to use items to heal your group's HP/MP. You can use items such as Potions and Tents here, as well as many other items. Use --- This is the first option of the Inventory menu. This will allow you to use items on your party members. The items marked in gray are unuseable, while the ones marked in white are useable items. Sort ---- This is located to the east of Use on the Inventory screen. By pressing A, you can sort your items in a vareity of different ways. You can sort your items to the point where your consumables will be at the top, or your armor or weapons will be at the top -- the choice is up to you. You can also move the icon around to anywhere you want in your inventory. Key Items --------- The last command of the Inventory menu. All this does is show you the key items that you've obtained throughout the game. Magic ----- This is the second option on the menu screen, where you'll be able to heal your group via the use of White Magic. You cannot use Black Magic on the menu screen; only White Magic. Equipment --------- This is the next option on the menu screen, which is where you can equip each and every one of your characters with weapons, shields, armor, and gauntlets/ rings. After you get a new weapon, shield, armor, or gauntlet/ring for a particular character, you can equip them on the character that can use them to make that character more powerful. Just because you find a new weapon doesn't always mean it's better, though; weapons do have their drawbacks, after all. This doesn't apply to just weapons, but everything you find. Abilities --------- This menu lists your party members' abilities (i.e. your battle commands, like Attack, Jump, and Items with Kain). You can also equip Augments here (see the Augments section for more details), and you can also give your party member's a certain command you want them to use with Auto Battle. To change the Auto Battle ability of a party member, just move the cursor to the right and over to the Auto-Battle Command area of the screen. Your cursor should now be on the "Attack" command, just below the Auto-Battle Command text (note that Attack appears ONLY if you haven't already given the party member in question a new Auto Battle ability. This FAQ assumes you haven't fiddled with that just yet). Press A once the Attack command is highlighted, and then you should be able to replace Attack with any ability the character in question knows. Status ------ This menu lists information about your party members. I'll give you a summary of what you can view here below: Experience Points ----------------- Since we're on the subject of experience points, I may as well talk about them in more thorough detail than I have in this FAQ thus far. After each battle you win, be it a regular battle or a boss battle, your characters will gain experience points. If all of your party members are alive after the end of the battle, everyone of them will gain some experience points. Experience points are divided between each character, so if a boss gives you 20000 experience points, all of your party members (if they are alive) won't gain 20000 experience points apiece, but it'll be divided up, where a party of four people (though the maximum amount of people you can have in your party at one time is five) would gain 5000 experience points each, which would equal up to the 20000 the boss gives you. Anyway, this is one of the options when you click the Status option on the menu screen. You'll be able to tell how much experience a party member needs to go to the next level, and you'll also be able to see how much experience points a party member has gained in total. Experience points, by the way, are used for leveling up to the next level. Whenever a party member has gained the required amount of experience he/she needs to go to the next level, that party member will gain a level. The maximum level in this game is 99. With each level up (well, almost every level up, but I'll get to that in a minute), a party members' stats grow stronger and stronger, making that party member become stronger. At level 70 and up, however, there is a change with level ups. Instead of growing stronger, your party grows WEAKER. Yes, weaker. Your stats have a chance to decrease if you level up past level 70, and this weakening trend continues until you are level 99. This is not a glitch, but it's something that Square put in this game for some reason unknown to man. There is a remedy to this, however, but it's a rather annoying one. If you want to keep having your stats get raised rather than lowered, carefully monitor your stats at level 71 on up, and if they go down, reset your game and level up again until your stats go up. Like I said, this is a rather annoying method, but it's the only remedy to this stupid thing Square put into this game. Job/Level --------- This is another thing you'll see when you visit the Status screen. Job means what class your character is (for example, Cecil is a Dark Knight, so his job Dark Knight). Level means your party members' current level. Name ---- This represents the name of your character (e.g. Cecil). Stats ----- On this screen, you can view stats as well. Stats are things like Strength, Defense, Magic Defense, etc. I'll go into more detail about each one below (in chronological order). Strength -------- This represents how much a party member's physical attack will hurt the selected target. Speed ----- This represents how long a party member has to wait to take a turn in battle. Stamina ------- This represents how much a party member can withstand damage from a physical attack. Intellect --------- The stronger the Intellect of a party member is, the stronger their Black Magic will be. Spirit ------ The stronger the Spirit of a party member is, the stronger their White Magic will be. HP -- HP means Hit Points, and it represents how much life your character has. The first HP numbers represent how much HP that party member currently has, whereas the second HP numbers represent the party member's maximum HP. If a party member's HP reaches 0, that party member dies, and must be revived via the use of a Life item, a Life spell, a Life 2 spell, or by resting at an Inn in a town. You can also keep your HP up and not die by using items such as Potions,and White Magic spells such as Cure. Always keep your HP up high throughout the game, and be careful not to die. Also, you can use Tents or Cottages to recover your HP. MP -- MP means Magic Points, and it represents how much magic energy your character has before he/she can no longer cast magic. The first MP numbers represent how much MP that party member currently has, whereas the second MP numbers represent the party member's maximum MP. If a party member's MP reaches 0, that party member will no longer be able to use magic, and his/her MP must be restored via the use of an Ether item, an Elixir item, or by resting at an Inn in a town. It is important to always keep track of your MP, and make sure you have enough to use magic. Also, you can use Tents or Cottages to recover your MP. Attack ------ The higher this number is, the more damage a party member will do with physical attacks. Accuracy -------- The higher the percentage is, the better chance you have of hitting enemies, and the lower the percentage is, the less chance you have of hitting enemies. Defense ------- The higher this number is, the less damage a party member will take from phyiscal attacks. Evasion ------- The higher the percentage is, the less chance the enemy will have of hitting you with physical attacks, and the lower the percentage is, the better chance the enemy will have of hitting you with physical attacks. Magic Defense ------------- The higher this number is, the less damage a party member will take from magic attacks. Magic Evasion ------------- The higher the percentage is, the less chance the enemy will have of hitting you with magic attacks, and the lower the percentage is, the better chance the enemy will have of hitting you with magic attacks. Party ----- This is the menu just below the Status menu. In this menu, you can switch the positions of your party members in battle (i.e. Front and Back Row). If you have more than 2 characters in need of the back row, you need to use the Invert option, then use the Reposition option to switch them around. Settings -------- This is the menu below the Party menu. In this menu, you can change the Battle Mode to Active or Wait, change the Battle Speed (the speed that the messages in battle appear onscreen, or how fast you can move your cursor through the spell lists and such, can be changed through Battle Speed), Movement (Walk or Turn), choose whether or not you want subtitles in the in-game cutscenes, and finally, you can turn the voice acting on or off. Quicksave --------- This is the second to last option on the menu screen. By utilizing Quicksave, you can save your game anywhere, be it in a town or somewhere else. After you Quicksave, you are forced to turn your DS off. When you reload the game, you will see the Continue option on the title screen. By choosing it, you will start back in the same area that you quicksaved in. Note that you have to choose the Continue option in order to load up your quicksave data. If you choose Load or New Game, the quicksave data is gone. Save ---- You can save your game at a Save Point, or on the World Map. You can also use Tents and Cottages at Save Points and on the World Map. This is the very last option on the menu screen. Status Aliments --------------- There are several status aliments in the game, which can be inflicted on your party members. They are: Berserk ------- This is the first status aliment that can be inflicted upon your group. If a party member is berserked, that party member will automatically attack with physical attacks, and you won't be able to control them at all. To cure this, use a Heal item or an Esuna spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Berserk on a party member, the effect of Berserk will wear off. Blind ----- You'll be able to tell if a character has this status aliment inflicted on them if they have black goggles on over their eyes. To cure this, use an Eye Drops item or an Esuna spell. Also, when a party member is in this state, their accuracy with physical attacks lower. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Darkness on a party member, the effect of Blind will wear off. Confuse ------- This means a party member is confused. You'll be able to tell when a party member has Confuse inflicted upon them by a green circle above their head. They will also spin around in confusion and attack whoever they wish (in other words, you can't control them when they are in this state). To counter this, use a Heal item, an Esuna spell, or simply attack that person with a physical attack. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Confuse on a party member, the effect of Confuse will wear off. Count ----- This status aliment is a VERY bad one, but it will definitely happen to you at least once throughout the entire game, so be prepared. Anyway, sometimes an enemy will cause a timer to appear above a party member's head. When the timer reaches 0, that party member dies. To counter this, simply use a Heal item or an Esuna spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Count on a party member, the effect of Count will wear off. Curse ----- When a party member is cursed, their physical attack power lowers, which is not good, especially if that party member is a good attacker (e.g. Yang). To cure this, simply use a Cross item or an Esuna spell. Also, this status aliment can be recognized by a purple skull above a party member's head. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Curse on a party member, the effect of Curse will wear off. Also, a party member will be kneeling down like he/she is wounded if they have Curse inflicted on them. Float ----- When a party member has Float inflicted upon them, that party member will float up in the air and will be immune to Earth attacks, such as Quake. To counter this, if you are on the World Map, enter a town or another place aside from the World Map or exit the dungeon you are currently in and the effect will wear off. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Float on a party member, the effect of Float will not wear off, but must be cured manually. Also, you'll see a wing beside a party member on the menu screen if they have Float inflicted on them. Mini ---- You'll defnitely be able to tell when a party member has this inflicted upon them, because they will turn tiny and look like a little kid. To cure this, use a Mallet item or an Esuna spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Mini on a party member, the effect of Tiny will not wear off, but must be cured manually. Paralyze -------- When a party member has Paralyze inflicted on them, you'll see two zigzag lines on that party member (one on each side of that particular party member). Cure this via the use of a Heal item or Heal spell, or just simply wait until the effect wears off. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Paralyze on a party member, the effect of Paralyze will wear off. Also note that if all of your party members in battle get paralyzed, you'll get a Game Over, which is never good. Petrify ------- Petrify is the gradual process by which a party member is turned to stone. If an enemy and/or boss uses a particular move that sets Petrify, they need only do that move three more times before that party member is turned to Stone. Use a Gold Needle to cure Petrify during its formative stages. While in Petrify, the party member in question can still fight. Pig --- A party member will turn into a pig if this status aliment is inflicted on them. When a party member is in this state, that party member cannot use his or her special abilities, cannot use any form of Black Magic or White Magic, except for Pig, which is Black Magic. To counter this status aliment, use a Diet Ration item or an Esuna spell, or use the Pig spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Pig on a party member, the effect of Pig will not wear off, but must be cured manually. Poison ------ When a party member is poisoned, you'll see that party member become purple. Also, that particular party member will be kneeling down like he/she is nearly dead. To cure this status aliment, use an Antidote item or a Heal spell. When a party member is poisoned in battle, that party member will take damage after each turn. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Poison on a party member, the effect of Poison will not wear off, but must be cured manually. Also, if you walk in a dungeon or on the World Map when you are poisoned, you'll take 1 damage for each step. Reflect ------- Well this isn't really a status aliment by any means, but I'll put it here since I have no place better to put it. When Reflect is inflicted on a character (or an enemy, since you yourself can learn this ability), a barrier will be activated on that party member, which means any magic attack you use on that party member, be it Black Magic or White Magic, will be reflected off that particular party member and bounce off and effect another target. To counter this status aliment, you must wait until it wears off, though you'll never be able to tell when it wears off, so just use a Cure spell on that party member to see if it has worn off (be sure it's a weak Cure spell so it won't heal the enemy a whole lot just incase it does hit the enemy). Silence ------- A party member has a bubble-like thing over their head with dots inside the bubble, so that's how you'll be able to tell that they're silenced. They'll also be crouching down in their wounded state if they are muted. When a party member is in Silence status, that party member cannot use magic attacks, be it Black Magic or White Magic. To counter Silence, use an Echo Herbs item or an Esuna spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Silence on a party member, the effect of Silence will not wear off, but must be cured manually. Stone ----- You'll be able to tell when a party member has this on them, because they'll be totally gray-colored. When a party member is petrified, they can't move for a short amount of time. Use a Gold Needle item or a Heal spell to counter this. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Petrify on a party member, the effect of Stone will wear off. Sleep ----- When a party member is put to sleep, you'll see Z's above the party member's head. To counter this status effect, use an Alarm Clock item or an Esuna spell. When a party member is asleep, that party member will be unable to move for the entire battle unless you cure it off them. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Sleep on a party member, the effect of Sleep will wear off. Slow ---- When a party member has Slow on them, it will take longer than normal for that party member's turn to come up. To cure this, simply use a Heal item or a Heal spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Slow on a party member, the effect of Slow will wear off. Stone ----- A party member will keep turning to stone until they are eventually fully turned into stone. When that happens, they won't be able to do anything at all except for sit there. To cure this, use a Heal item or a Heal spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Stone on a party member, the effect of Stone will wear off (only if they are not completely turned to stone). Note also that if all party members become stone, the game is over. Stop ---- When a party member has Stop status on them, they won't be able to make a turn at all, and they'll be frozen (not with ice, but they'll just stand there). To cure this, use a Heal item or Heal spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Stop on a party member, the effect of Stop will wear off. Toad ---- A party member will turn into a frog if this status aliment is inflicted on them. When a party member is in this state, that party member cannot use his or her special abilities, cannot use any form of Black Magic or White Magic, except for Toad, which is Black Magic. To counter this status aliment, use a Maiden's Kiss item or a Heal spell, or use the Toad spell. Note that after a battle is over, if you still had Toad on a party member, the effect of Toad will not wear off, but must be cured manually. Chocobos -------- In this game are a few types of Chocobos. Chocobos are alternate means of transportation aside from airships and the Hovercraft. I'll list all of the Chocobo types below: NOTE: To get on a Chocobo, walk up to one and press A while facing it. To dismount a Chocobo, press A on the World Map. Also note that each type of Chocobo is found in a Chocobo's Forest, which are located in forests (obviously), which are dark green grassy areas on the World Map. Also, whenever you are on any type of Chocobo, you won't get yourself into random encounters. Black Chocobo ------------- These Chocobos are rare Chocobos. When you are on one, you'll be able to fly around the World Map, but unfortunately, you cannot fly over mountains, but you can land in forests, which is good. Also, this Chocobo doesn't go back to the Chocobo Forest where you got it from after you dismount it. Instead, it will stay where you dismounted it at until you get back on it a second time. After you get on it a second time, it'll fly you back to the Chocobo's Forest you got it from. Chocobo ------- This is the standard Chocobo found in all Final Fantasy games. When you are on this Chocobo, you'll be able to move about the World Map much faster than you would on foot. These are extremely common Chocobos. After you dismount it, it will take itself back to the Chocobo's Forest you got it from. Fat Chocobo ----------- Fat Chocobos serve a different purpose in this game than they did in the other releases of the game. This time, all of the stuff from Namingway and all of his other variations are stored in the Fat Chocobo. This means that even though Namingway always changes names and takes on different jobs, you can still use all of the data and stuff that he has gathered throughout the game. Fat Chocobo's are found in Dwarven Castle in B1. At the far eastern end of the room near the exit leading back into the upper reaches of the castle, you'll see an altar in between two dwarves. Place a Gyshal Green here to summon a Fat Chocobo. You can use all of the features from Namingway here. White Chocobo ------------- These are rare Chocobos, just like Black Chocobos. These Chocobos fully restore your MP, so that's always good, especially if you are running low on Tents, Cottages, and Ethers. Fight ----- This command is in each battle you get yourself into, and by using it, the party member that used it will preform a physical attack on the selected target. Do note that magic users, such as Rydia and Rosa, are not people you want to have doing the Fight command, as they will deal terrible damage to the selected target. Defend ------ Press Right on the D-Pad once during a party member's turn, and this command will pop up. This allows you to simply defend, rather than attack. The only time this is useful is when you fight the Dark Knight Cecil on Mt. Ordeals as Cecil the Paladin. Swap Rows --------- Press Right on the D-Pad once during a party member's turn, and this command will pop up. This allows you to switch your party's row around. For example, if Cecil is in the front row, and Rydia in the back row, when you use this command, Rydia will be in front, while Cecil is in the back. Map --- Don't confuse this map with the World Map. This map is the map that appears on the touch screen when you're outside of battle. This map is very useful when you are in towns and dungeons, as it shows you the location of non-hidden treasure chests (provided that you have examined the part of the map where the chests are). If you're outside a town or dungeon, the map is useful for finding out where to go. The blue arrow-like thing on the map is the current position of your character. The map also lists the dungeons and towns you've explored, in addition to the vehicles you've obtained, as well. |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| | 7. Walkthrough | |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| Here is a complete walkthrough from beginning to end. NOTE: This walkthrough does not give you directions on how to complete the in- game touch screen map found in each dungeon. That should be obvious enough. Watch the introductory scene, where you'll see the crew of the Red Wings talking with Cecil, the leader of the Red Wings of Baron. During the middle of the conversation, the ship is attacked by two monsters. They are easy enough to defeat it, taking no more than two hits each to take down. After defeating the monsters, the group arrives at Baron. Baron Castle ------------ Upon arrival, you won't gain control just yet, but will instead have to sit through some more dialogue, but this time it isn't voiced. Cecil is greeted by Baigan, and taken to the throne room, where he gives the king the crystal. Afterward, there is some more talking, as the king becomes angry at Cecil for doubting him. Cecil is relieved of his position as commander of the Red Wings. After Kain comes in and tries to get the king to change his mind, it won't be long before you finally gain control of Cecil. Once you gain control, head south and east and you should see a soldier standing beside a wall with a switch on it. Press the switch to open the wall, and then go inside and open the three chests for a Tent, 480 gil, and an Ether. Now, go directly left of where you are and then go up the stairs to another room. In this small room, you'll encounter Rosa, the White Mage of Baron. Once Rosa leaves and you regain control, go through the southern exit in the room and you'll be outside. Once there, go left and north and you'll encounter Cid, the engineer of Baron. After Cid leaves and you regain control, head into the nearby left tower. In there, talk to the rabbit to the left, which is Namingway, although it serves no real purpose, since there isn't really a reason to change your name. At any rate, head up the stairs to the left, and then go right in the following room and talk to the woman standing beside the door. She'll tell you she has prepared your bed for you, and then she'll move out of the way to let you through to your room, so go inside. Approach the bed and press A, and a scene occurs. After the scene with Rosa and Cecil, you'll see another scene the next morning with Cecil and Kain, as they exit the castle and head for Mist. Once the long prologue is over, you'll regain control of Cecil on the World Map. World Map --------- While we're supposed to be heading to Mist, let's not go unprepared. Enter the nearby town of Baron to the east. Baron ----- Starting off, go due east and examine the grassy patch near the Inn to get a Potion. Then, go north from the entrance of town and examine the jar and the wooden wagon by the building to get two more Potions. Head to the northwest corner of town and you'll see a girl in a bikini standing by the water. She'll dance for you if you tell her yes. I'd recommend doing so, as it's quite amusing, to say the least. :) Regardless, make your way into the water and then follow the path to a small square-shaped area of water, where there are two invisible chests. Open them to get a Bronze Hourglass and a Tent. Now head over to the northeastern corner of town and then go north and west behind the building. Continue all the way left, hugging the stone wall. When the path splits south, go south into the small alcove and open the invisible chest to get a Phoenix Down. Go left and then you'll find another invisible chest containing a Phoenix Down. Head over to the Inn and examine the due left of the entrance to get a Potion. Go upstairs and press the switch on the wall and open the three chests in the room that's revealed to get a Gnomish Bread, a Tent, and some Eye Drops. Now, since the Weapon and Armor shop is locked, the only thing left to do is head over to the Item Shop, or, as it is called in this game, the Sundries. Once inside the Sundries, buy a Potion or two, a Phoenix Down, and a couple of Antidotes (a Tent wouldn't hurt, either). In the house at the northwestern corner of town, you can see Cid and his daughter if you want, but there's no real reason to. At this point, your business here is done, so exit. World Map --------- Go southwest and enter the Chocobo Forest, which is embedded within the small forest in that area. Once inside, grab a yellow Chocobo, and then once you're on it, go all the way to the northwestern corner of the map where mountains are. Dismount the Chocobo by pressing B, then save your game and enter the cave. Mist Cave --------- When you arrive here, you'll be greeted by Namingway, whom you met in the left tower at Baron Castle. He'll say that he has found a new purpose in life, which is to make maps, and thus he'll promptly change his name to Mappingway. Whatever. He'll then give you a map that will allow you to see where you are currently located in this dungeon. Apparently, there are a boatload of these maps, and by completing them (discovering all areas in the dungeon), you'll be rewarded. Eh... whatever. At this point, Mappingway leaves and you regain control. Head upstairs to the east, then make your way northwest, where you'll hear a voice telling you to go back. Open the chest to get a Potion, and continue onward, opening the next chest you see to get some Eye Drops. Go south from here and then you'll hear the voice again. Ignore it and head down the nearby set of stairs and open the chest to get a Potion. Now go back to where you heard the voice and then make your way north, where you'll find another chest, containing a Tent. Further up, the voice will be heard once more, and it gives you one final warning. Ignore said warning and a battle will commence as the mist gathers. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Mist Dragon | | HP: 556 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: Holy | | Weaknesses: Darkness | | Experience Points: 1112 | | Gil: 0 gil | | Location: Mist Cave | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: When you remember what he was in the SNES release of this game, the Mist Dragon is significantly harder, but still easily beatable. The key here is to try and not program too many attacks at one time, otherwise you risk hitting the dragon as it turns into mist, which is what you want to avoid if you want to win this battle. So just attack the dragon when it is in its original form. The counterattack the boss does when you attack his mist form is a devastating MT attack that could deal upwards of 100 damage to each party member. Have Kain use Jump and Cecil use Darkness. If you do that, this boss will go down relatively quickly. After defeating the boss, you'll get some items, assuming that you completed the touch screen map 100%. World Map --------- Remove Kain of his equipment, as he's about to leave you. Then, save your game and head east into the village of Mist. Mist ---- Upon entering the village, the box opens and several monsters come out and burn the town, killing every person except for a little girl. I won't spoil anymore, so just watch the scene. After it's over, you'll find Cecil on the ground, along with the girl, who is unconscious. Kain is nowhere to be found. Cecil says he must take her to place where she can rest, and with that, you regain control. World Map --------- Now might be a good time to level up Cecil, as it will definitely pay off in the near future. I'd recommend leveling him up to Level 14 or so. If you run into the sandworm enemy though, do run away, as it has a very potent attack that can easily kill you at your current state. Enter the nearby town of Kaipo when you're ready. Kaipo ----- Upon arrival, Cecil will rush the girl to the Inn. During the night, the Inn is broken into by some soldiers and a general from Baron. They ask Cecil to move away so they can kill the girl, but Cecil refuses, and you enter a battle. This is a very easy fight, and I will not label it a boss fight. If you defeat all of the soldiers and only the general remains, he'll run away in fear. If, on the other hand, you defeat all but one soldier, and the general is still alive, he won't run away since he still has a soldier with him. You get more experience points this way, because you can kill the general, whereas if you do the first method, he's likely to run away. After winning the battle, a short scene occurs, and at the end of it, you are introduced to Rydia's summon, Whyt. When you regain control of Cecil the next morning, buy some items on your way out of the Inn. Be sure to sell off Kain's old equipment that you should've removed from him before entering Mist. You should buy at least 10 Potions, and stock up on whatever else you may need. With that done, enter the house above the Weapon Shop. Inside, you'll meet Mappingway again. Unfortunately, the little bugger has lost all of his maps in that huge earthquake that occured in the vicinity of Mist. At any rate, this guy changes his name to Livingway after babbling about losing his maps. If you talk to Livingway, he'll show you a bestiary, which is a detailed list of all of the enemies you've encountered. Even if you've came across a particular enemy, unless you've slain said enemy, the data on that enemy will not be revealed to you, even though the name of the enemy is listed in the bestiary. Once you're done looking at the bestiary, go to the back end of the room and talk to Rosa, who is sick with desert fever. Apparently, this fever cannot be cured yet. We'll have to do something about that later on, I guess. Rosa gives you the Auto Potion Augment after you talk to her. To see how Augments work, please see the Augments section of this FAQ. Exit the building and head south to the Weapon Shop. Inside, buy Rydia a Staff or a Bow. Either one is better than her Rod she currently has. Keep in mind though that if you buy a Bow, you have to buy Arrows with it. Bows are more powerful than the Staff, though, so it's up to you, but it's more cost- efficient to buy a Staff (note though that you don't run out of arrows, so it really is up to you). Once you're done with buying weapons, exit the shop and head left and north of the entrance and you'll come across a Fat Chocobo sitting by a hut near the water. At this point. Livingway will explain a bit about this Fat Chocobo's purpose, which is to train Whyt. It's not mandatory to train Whyt, although it certainly doesn't hurt, either. You can train Whyt now if you want. In any case, once you're done here, go to the Armor Shop and buy Rydia a Leather Hat. Then, exit town. World Map --------- Out here, save your game and level up Rydia some, as she's incredibly weak right now. Be sure to place her in the back row before you begin leveling her up some, though, otherwise she'll die easily. It'd be a good idea to level her up to at least Level 10 before venturing northeastward into Waterway Entrance. Waterway Entrance - South ------------------------- Upon arrival, head north and up the stairs. Open the two chests for a Potion and a Maiden's Kiss. Now, go back to the entrance, and head all the way left and in the southwest corner of the area is a chest containing a Tent. Go north across the bridge and talk to the old man there, and he'll introduce himself as Tellah the Sage. Tellah senses trouble coming from Damcyan, and he wants to save his daughter Anna from a supposedly evil bard. When Cecil says that he too needs to go to Damcyan, Tellah joins your group. Be sure to place Tellah in the back row, as well. Cross the bridge to the east and then go south into the water. Once there, go west and north, under the bridge, and up the stairs to a chest containing an Ether. Now, go back south and all the way west and you'll run into a large waterfall. Along the left side of the waterfall is a secret path leading to another room. Inside said room are three chests, which contain a Dry Ether, an X-Potion, and a Phoenix Down. Now, make your way back up to the ground area above, and once there, go to the northwest corner of the room and go up the stairs to the next area. In this area, go all the way north, then go south into the watery area. Go south once there and then take a turn to the west and go up the stairs to the platform, where a chest containing a Potion awaits. After grabbing that, get off the platform and go up the stairs behind the platform you got off of, then go north and open the chest for a Potion. Now, the only thing left to do in this area is go all the way to the southwestern corner of the area (look at the map) and go through the door leading into another room. In that room, a cutscene will commence, as Tellah and your group rest for the night. Once the cutscene is over, save your game at the Save Point in the center of the room, then go through the northern exit of the room to find yourself in B2 of the south Waterway Entrance. In B2, go north and east, cross the bridge, and then go north and open the chest to get an Ice Rod, which you should equip on Tellah. Now go south and down the two sets of stairs, and into the water. Go north and up the next set of stairs you come across, then go through the exit leading to B3. Once in B3, go west and cross the bridge, and then go south and cross the next two bridges and open the chest for 580 gil. Go west and open the next chest to get a Bomb Fragment. Now, make your way to the northwest corner of the room (look at the map) and go through the door to the next room. In this room, go all the way left and go through the hole in the wall. Now, you'll have to travel north, then east, then all the way south to a hidden path that goes south and contains a chest with a Feathered Cap. It's a very long walk though, so do be careful, due to the random battles. Give the Feathered Cap to Tellah. Now, explore the area until the northwestern exit becomes visible on the touch screen map. Once it does, take the exit, but be sure to grab the chest containing a Potion before exiting. In the following room, go west and open the chest for an Ether, then go north and up the stairs to another chest containing Zeus's Wrath. At this point, head to the southeast corner of the map, and open the chest there for a Shadowblade. Equip it on Cecil and exit the south Waterway Entrance, via the exit in the northeastern portion of the room. World Map --------- Use a Tent, save your game, and then enter the nearby cave to the northwest. Underground Falls ----------------- Go south and jump off to the area below. The area you drop down to is linear enough that it doesn't merit explanation. Just grab the chests along the way out to get a Hades Helm and some Hades Gloves for Cecil. In the next area, go east and cross the bridge, being sure to open the two chests you come to to get a Hermes Sandals as well as a Hades Armor. Give that to Cecil and continue onward. You'll come across the creature Tellah is worried about shortly. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Octomammoth | | HP: 3350 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: Water, Holy | | Weaknesses: Darkness, Thunder | | Experience Points: 10050 | | Gil: 100 gil | | Location: Underground Falls | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This is an incredibly easy fight, in spite of the boss's massive HP. As shown in the rather poorly-drawn ASCII graph above, the boss is weak to Darkness and Thunder, both of which you currently possess. Nifty. So use Darkness with Cecil, then pound him with a physical attack. With Tellah, use Thunder, and with Rydia, summon Chocobo. Repeat this and keep healed via Cura until the boss is dead. It will not take long. Upon defeating Octomammoth, exit via the waterfall. We're finally done with this dreaded place... World Map --------- Remove Tellah of all of his equipment, then go north and you'll see the Red Wings fly above Damcyan, and drop bombs on it. Damn those bastards. Save your game after the scene, and then enter Damcyan Castle. Damcyan Castle -------------- Upon arrival, head due east and then north, hugging the wall. You'll eventually reach a door, which you should go through. In this small room, you will see a half dead Damcyan soldier lying on the ground before you. Talk to him, and he'll tell you to guard the treasures from the enemy, and then he'll die. Press the switch in the northeast corner of the room to open a door that will lead to the cells containing the chests. Open them to get a Power Bow, a Feathered Cap, and a Ruby Ring. Oh, be sure to give Rydia Tellah's Ice Rod and Gaia Armor, since he's about to leave you. After that, go to the southwestern corner of the room, and you'll find a hidden staircase that leads to another room. In here, open the six chests to get a Gold Needle, a Potion, an Antidote, a Phoenix Down, some Eye Drops, and an Ether. Now, head back to the entrance of the castle and then head into the throne room, being sure to grab the Tent in the chest in 2F along the way. Once you reach the throne room, in the southeast and southwest corners of the room are two pots. The easternmost one fully restores all party members' MP, and the westernmost one fully restores all party members' HP. Anyway, talk to Anna, who is the girl lying on the ground in the center of the room. A cutscene will then commence. During the cutscene, Tellah blames the bard Edward for Anna's death, and as a result, he attacks Edward. Anna begs them to stop, and then Anna speaks her last words to Edward and Tellah, as we find out that a man named Golbez was behind the Red Wings' attack on Damcyan. Eventually, Edward joins your group as a means to help you cure Rosa's desert fever. Unfortunately, Tellah leaves your group. World Map --------- Note that you can't save when you are on the Hovercraft, so get off by pressing B, then save your game and get back on it. Now, ride the craft across the rocks to the north, then on the continent you reach, go south and land near the cave there. Before entering, place Edward in the back row, and also equip the Silver Armlet on him. Antlion's Den ------------- Starting off, go west across the bridge and open the chest to get a Spider Silk. Now, go back right and head south down the stairs, then go west and north, under the bridge, opening the chest you see to get a Potion. Go to the southwestern corner of the room (via the map; from now on, when I tell you to go to a particular location in a given area, just use the map if I say something like "southwestern corner"), and then go north and open the chests to get a Tent as well as Potion. Head to the northeastern corner of the room and open the chest there to get a Gold Needle. Take the southeastern exit in the room to reach B2. In B2, go south and east and take the door to the north. In the room you appear in, go up the stairs and open the chest to get a Lamia Harp. Equip this on Edward immediately, and then leave the room. Follow the path to the south and you'll come to a chest very shortly that contains an Antarctic Wind. Go to the southwestern portion of the area, then go north and up the stairs and open the chest to get a Shadowblade. Now, go due east to a chest containing an Ice Rod. If you forgot to remove Tellah of his equipment and he had the Ice Rod, be sure to give this to Rydia. Otherwise, just sell it later. Now, go west, south, east, and all the way north and enter the door there. In this small room, you should be able to complete the map in B1. Go through the door leading to another small room. In this room, open the three chests to get a Phoenix Down, an Emergency Exit, and an Ether. Save your game here, as well, and it might be wise to use a Tent. Exit this room and exit B1 entirely. Once you're back in B2, go all the way northwest and open the chest to get a Spider Silk. Then, go east and up the stairs and open the chest there to obtain a Potion. Now, take the southern exit to reach the Antlion's Nest. In here, go south and Edward will attempt to grab the Sand Pearl cure from the Anltion. It will attack him, and Cecil and Rydia quickly come to his aid. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Antlion | | HP: 2000 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: Water | | Weaknesses: Ice | | Experience Points: 10050 | | Gil: 150 gil | | Location: Antlion's Den | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This version of the Antlion is different from the earlier incarnates. During the battle, his eyes will change color. If they are white, he'll counter all physical attacks. If they are red, he will counter all magic attacks. Have Cecil use physical attacks when his eyes are red (using Darkness when his eyes are white is a good idea, as damage will be doubled when you get to attack him with Cecil), have Rydia use Blizzard or summon Chocobo when his eyes are white (although the former would probably be a better idea, because it exploits his weakness). Edward should just use the Bardsong Life Anthem. If you're wondering, it works like Regen, in that it gradually restores the HP of all your party members as long as it is in effect. Eventually, the effect will wear off, at which point you should promptly use it again. Just repeat this process until you win. After slaying the Antilon, you'll receive the Sand Pearl. If you want to, use the Emergency Exit you got at Waterway Entrance. I don't recommend using it for now, though, as you could save it for a more appropriate time. Really, it doesn't take very long to get out of Antlion's Den, and if you don't have the patience to get out manually, well, then simply put, you shouldn't be playing this game. World Map --------- Board the Hovercraft and ride the rocks back to the continent with Damcyan. Once there, travel southwest of Damcyan and travel across the rocks to the desert continent with Kaipo. Once there, travel southeast, land the craft, save your game, then enter Kaipo. Kaipo ----- Upon arrival, enter the house where Rosa is, which is the house above the Weapon's Shop. Once inside, approach Rosa and press A. Scroll all the way down through the item list and use the Sand Pearl on her. She'll recover from her desert fever, but still remain a little ill. She'll beg Cecil to let her come with the group to Fabul to stop the Red Wings from attacking that kingdom, and eventually, after persuasion from Edward, he agrees. During the middle of the night, for whatever reason, Edward decides to take a visit to the beach. While there, he begins to play a song because he is mourning Anna's death. During this time, he is attacked by a monster, namely a Sahagin. It's very easy to defeat; just a few attacks will take it down. After the battle, another cutscene occurs, where Edward says goodbye to Anna for one last time, as her spirit disappears. Once the cutscene is over and you regain control, equip Rosa with a Power Bow (if you don't have one, just buy a Bow from the Weapon's Shop), a Feathered Cap, and a Silver Armlet. Now, exit the building and head behind the Inn, where you should see a sparkle on the ground. Examine it to get the Item Lore Augment. Now that you have that, it's time to head over the Weapon Shop and buy Rosa some Iron Arrows. You only need to buy one, in spite of what you may think, as you get unlimited arrows upon buying and/or finding some. After you've equipped Rosa, leave town. World Map --------- Board the Hovercraft and ride across the rocks to the left, back to the continent with Damcyan. From there, hover to the northeast across the rocks, then get on the continent with Antlion's Den. Travel due east of there and land near the mountain. Save your game and enter. Mount Hobs ---------- Go due north and approach the ice sheet. A cutscene will occur, as the group begs Rydia to melt the ice. She refuses at first, because she hates fire since Mist was burned down in a fire. Eventually, however, she gives in to Rosa and Edward and uses Fire to melt the ice sheet. Nifty. With this, Rydia learns Fire. Cool. Continue onward and take the northwestern exit. In this small area, you probably already notice the four chests on the touch screen map at the very bottom of the area. Go down there and open them to get a Tent, a Potion, a Gold Needle, and 960 gil. Now, backtrack to the entrance of this area, but rest/save along the way out. When you reach the first area of the mountain again, go east and through the door to reach another area. In this area, you'll notice that the entire map has already been uncovered. Nice. Go east and open the chest to get some Holy Arrows. Give them to Rosa and heal your group via Cura. You don't get a Save Point, and there's an upcoming boss battle. Go up the stairs and then you'll have to view a cutscene, as a karate fighter from Fabul battles some monsters. You'll have to use this guy, named Yang, to defeat the monsters. Just use Kick to defeat them. After beating the monsters, you are attacked by a much stronger enemy, a fireball-like enemy called Mom Bomb. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Mom Bomb | | HP: 13200 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: Fire | | Weaknesses: Darkness, Ice | | Experience Points: 4400 | | Gil: 200 gil | | Location: Mount Hobs | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: You've probably noticed the massive amount of HP that Mom Bomb has, and you're thinking "How the hell am I gonna defeat this?". Well, don't worry about it, since it's like the fight with Vargas in FFVI, in that we don't have to take off even a quarter of that amount to defeat Mom Bomb. Starting off, it seems pretty easy, just one bomb and all, but the boss has different phases. The first phase is this one: the second phase is a self-destructing phase, where the boss self-destructs and damages all your group for massive damage. If you do not Defend before Mom Bomb does this, you'll most likely die. The last phase of the boss consists of six enemies, with two different types of bombs (3 for each of the two types). To defeat the first phase of the boss, have Cecil attack, have Yang attack or use Focus and then attack for added damage, have Rosa use Aim, have Rydia use Blizzard, and have Edward attack. Eventually, Mom Bomb will turn into a huge cloud of fire. This is the second phase, and it's the most deadly phase, by far. Keep attacking it in the same manner you did the first one, and eventually, Yang will state that the creature is storing energy, and that you should beef up your defenses. At this point, you only have about a minute or so before all hell breaks loose. The boss will count down from 5 to 1. After 1, the boss will self-destruct, damaging all of your party members for upwards of 300+ damage, and that's IF you have Defend in effect with each party member. It is strongly recommended that you use Defend with every party member before Mom Bomb explodes, otherwise you are only going to survive with Yang, and you'll undoubtedly die at the third phase. Now for the third phase. Don't bother bringing back your dead party members (which are most likely Rydia, Rosa, and Edward), but instead just go all out. Don't use Focus with Yang, as it isn't needed. Use either Kick or a regular attack (the latter is probably safer). Just attack with Cecil as well, not bothering to use Darkness. Keep your HP up if it gets low, but always have one party member attacking. The blue fireballs are the stronger of the two types, with the first type (the orange fireballs) weak enemies that are easy to defeat. As long as you keep your HP up, you'll be fine. After the battle, Yang will join your group after he finds out Fabul is about to be attacked by Golbez and the Red Wings. Heal your group and bring back the dead party members, then go through the nearby door to reach the next area of the mountain. In this area, simply make your way to the southern portion of the map, following the path along the mountain to reach it. World Map --------- Follow the path to the east, and eventually, after much walking, you'll reach Fabul. Save before entering, but don't rest, as you can rest inside. Fabul Castle ------------ First thing's first. Let's hit up the Weapon Shop. Buy two Lightning Claws for Yang, and buy Cecil all of the Demon equipment, if you can afford it (which you should). Now, remove all of Rydia and Rosa's equipment, as you will lose them both very shortly. After removing their equipment, sell off all of the old equipment you don't need. You will make tons of cash from it. Be sure to keep a Silver Armlet, though, so that you can give it to Yang, whose Defense is severely lacking. Also, be sure to equip him with a Feathered Cap. which you should have from either Rydia or Rosa. Also, be sure to keep two Ruby Rings. Once Yang is equipped and your items are sold, exit the Weapon Shop and head directly west and enter the Inn. Inside, you'll run into Livingway again. As usual, the loser changes his name, this time to Recordingway. If you talk to him, you can view all of the cutscenes you've seen thus far in the game. If you're wondering where his bestiary went that he had as Livingway, he passed that along to a certain Chocobo he knows. Interesting, eh? Anyway, go east and buy some items at the Item Shop. Stock up on a little bit of everything, even if you think you don't need it. You should have plenty of money after selling your stuff, so spend it. Don't spend excessively, though, as you'll need this money for later. When you are done shopping, exit the Inn and go upstairs to 2F. Head through the door behind the set of stairs that you appear beside, and you will be outside. Once there, go up the stairs to the left, and enter the west tower. Once inside, open the chests to get a Bomb Fragment, an Antarctic Wind, as well as a Potion. Go east and examine the candle near the stairs to get a Zeus's Wrath. Continuing to the top of the tower will take you to Yang's wife. She serves no purpose, though. When you're done, head to the east tower. Once inside, go to 3F, where you'll find a chest containing a Tent. After getting it, rest in the king's bed, then exit the right tower, being sure to grab the Bacchu's Wine from the vase in the northeastern portion of 2F. After exiting the east tower, head back into 2F in the actual castle, then go north into the throne room. A cutscene will commence, and shortly after, the castle will be attacked by the Red Wings. Damn. You'll now have to face a series of battles, albeit easy ones. You should get through them without any problems. After the battles are over, you'll be in the crystal room, where a cutscene occurs. Kain attacks Cecil, and Cecil is wounded. At this point, Golbez enters the room. Yang and Edward try to attack Golbez, but he blasts them away. Rosa then enters the room, and Kain is ashamed. Eventually, both Kain and Golbez run off with the Crystal. Once the scene is over and you regain control, exit the crystal room and you will appear in the throne room again. Once there, examine the nearby jar to the southwest to get some Hermes Sandals. After getting that, head to the opposite end of the room, then go due east through a secret passage in the wall. Open the three chests you come to to get a Spider Silk, a Demon Shield, and an Ether. Equip the Demon Shield on Cecil right away. Now, head over to the Inn and rest. It'll be free of charge. The group decides to go to Baron by sea, as its sea power is relatively weak. The next morning, the King of Fabul tells you that a ship has been prepared for you at the eastern pier. He will also give you the Deathbringer sword, which you should give to Cecil. With that, exit Fabul. World Map --------- On the World Map, remove Yang of all of his equipment, then head north of the castle and get on the pier you see there. You'll automatically board the board, as a cutscene occurs. As the group says their farewells to Yang's wife, she'll give you a Counter Augment. The cutscene continues onboard the ship. The group runs into Leviathan, master of the seas. The beast throws Rydia overboard, and Yang dives into the water to save her. Edward is injured during the incident. Eventually, the scene fades as Cecil washes up ashore, unconscious. When he comes to, he'll find that he's alone. Rydia, Yang, and Edward are gone. This sucks... ;_; Save your game when you get on the World Map, then head east to the nearby town of Mysidia. Mysidia ------- There are a few black and white mages that will cast spells on you if you talk to them. One turns you into a frog, another turns you into a pig, and another turns you tiny. If you want to walk around like that, go for it. The mage that turns you into a frog is a black mage on the east side of town near the Inn. The one that turns you into a pig is located in the Inn, disguised as a dancer. If you watch her dance, she turns you into a pig. Just talk to her again and you'll be turned back to normal. Finally, the mage that turns you tiny is located in the northwestern corner of town by the water near the Hall of Prayer. At any rate, once you're done messing around with the mages in town, head due north of the entrance and enter the Hall of Prayer. Inside, approach the elder and a long cutscene will commence. Cecil wishes to repent of his past, and so he volunteers to go to Mt. Ordeals as a means to become a Paladin, a warrior of light. The elder sends two mages to accompany Cecil to the mountain: Palom and Porom. Palom is a black mage, and Porom is a white mage. Once the scene ends and you regain control, use and equip the Counter Augment on Cecil. See the Augments section of the FAQ to see how to use Augments. Once you do that, head over to the Armor Shop and buy the Lustrous Helm and the Gauntlets. If, in the unlikely event that you have enough to buy the last piece of equipment, the Knight's Armor, do so. If not, it's fine, as we can buy it in the not too distant future. Now, buy a Wizard's Hat, a Gaia Gear, and a Silver Armlet, as you'll need them soon. Go next door to the Weapon Shop and buy a Flame Rod. Then, exit Mysidia. World Map --------- I'd recommend leveling up Palom and Porom for a bit, as they're each only at Level 10, a far cry from any of your party members in the game at this point. I recommend leveling them up to at least Level 15. I leveled them up to Level 20. When you're done, follow the long path all the way east and rest/save by the mountain there, then enter it. Mount Ordeals ------------- Go left and you'll encounter a wall of fire that impedes your path further up the mountain. Lucky for us, we've got Palom with us. Palom quickly douses the fire with Blizzard, and then brags about it. Porom hits Palom on the head as a means of disciplining him, and then the scene switches to Golbez, Kain, and Rosa, who is held captive. Golbez sends one of the Four Fiends of Elements, Scarmiglione, to stop Cecil from becoming a Paladin. Crap, this looks bad. >_< When you regain control, follow the straight-foward path up the mountain, opening the two chests you come across to get two Potions. Go through the door at the top of the area. In this next area, follow the path up the mountain. You'll run into Tellah, who apparently came to the mountain to obtain the magic spell Meteor, in order to kill Golbez and avenge Anna. After a short cutscene where Cecil and Tellah talk, Tellah joins your group, since you're both at the mountain for a particular reason. Sweet! Now that Tellah has joined your group, be sure to place him in the back row. You should have Palom and Porom in the back row, as well. Also, be sure to equip Tellah with the stuff you bought for him in Mysidia. Now, head through the nearby door into the next area. In that area, go all the way west, then go north and up the stairs you come across. Open the chest you see to get an Ether. Now, go back down the stairs and head east and north and follow the path up the mountain. You'll come across a door at the northwestern corner of the area, so enter it. In this next area, go north and east and cross the bridge, then rest/save at the Save Point. Now, go back to the west, then go north and up the stairs, then go west and you'll encounter the source of the hissing noise we've heard since we arrived in this area of the mountain. Talk about creepy. This guy's like a zombie, or something. I dunno, he's definitely zombie-esque. Whatever. This guy attacks you, and we have to beat him down. I've been itching for a fight. Have you? ;) ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Scarmiglione/Skullant (x4) | | HP: (Scarmiglione) 1230 | | HP: (Skullant) 400 | | Strengths: (Scarmiglione) Darkness | | Strengths: (Skullant) Darkness | | Absorbs: (Scarmiglione) Ice | | Weaknesses: (Scarmiglione) Fire, Holy | | Weaknesses: (Skullant) Fire, Holy | | Experience Points: (Scarmiglione) 3690 | | Experience Points: (Skullant) 400 | | Gil (Scarmiglione): 250 gil | | Gil (Skullant): 0 gil | | Location: Mount Ordeals | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This is a very simple fight. Both Scarmiglione and the Skullants that accompany him are susceptible to Fire-based attacks. You may have Fira in your arsenal with Palom, which will quickly put these guys to rest. Even if you don't have Fira, Twincast alone is enough to win the day. Have Tellah MT Fire all of them, have Cecil attack Scarmiglione only, and have Palom and Porom use Twincast. Just watch your HP, as Scarmiglione counters with Thunder, and the Skullants use Drain. All in all though, this is a rather easy battle. After the battle, go back and rest/save at the Save Point. Once you're rested up and have saved the game, go back to the area you fought Scarmiglione in and prepare for another boss fight. Before crossing the bridge, though, be sure to go to the Party screen, select the Invert option, and then move Cecil to the back row, and Tellah, Palom, and Porom to the front row. You'll see why in a minute. Now, cross the bridge. This time, we fight Scarmiglione's true form. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Scarmiglione | | HP: 7046 | | Strengths: Darkness | | Absorbs: Earth, Ice, Poison | | Weaknesses: Fire, Holy | | Experience Points: 28184 | | Gil: 300 gil | | Location: Mount Ordeals | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: Okay, this could very well be the hardest boss battle you've faced thus far in the game, but only if you aren't sufficiently prepared. He has a significant amount of HP, he has a plethora of powerful attacks, as well, both physical and non-physical. Cecil is pretty much useless in this fight, since Scarmiglione is resistant to Darkness. Even if you use Darkness with Cecil, you won't be dealing out a whole lot of damage, so I wouldn't bother with using Darkness, just have Cecil heal. Have Tellah use Cura on Scarmiglione (yes, on Scarmiglione). Since he's undead, this will damage him instead of heal him. Have Porom use Cura on him, as well. Finally, have Palom use Fira. If you don't have Fira, this changes the whole strategy. In the case that you don't have Fira, you should have Palom and Porom use Twincast and hope you get Pyroblast, as that will deal massive damage to Scarmiglione. Tellah should still use Cura if you're using this different strategy, and Cecil should still heal. Regardless of whether or not you have Fira and have to use a different strategy because of it, take a few turns to heal your group, as Scarmiglione has some powerful physical attacks that won't take long to wear you down. Use an MT Cura, preferably. In addition to powerful physical attacks, Scarmiglione has some pretty potent non-physical attacks, as well. He can inflict Curse on a party member, he can inflict Poison on a party member, and he can also put Blind, Curse, Silence, Sleep and Slow on you, via a potent MT spell called Gas. Not all of the aforementioned status aliments are guaranteed when he uses Gas, but nonetheless, this is a very potent attack, very hard to heal yourself from before he kills you. Hopefully you have the required items to heal from that attack. If you do, quickly heal the status aliments and get your group back into shape and continue the assault (the Esuna spell also works, but it may be unavailable due to Silence). When Scarmiglione is almost dead is when he likes to use Gas, so if you can recover from it, you have basically won. You can also use Slow on him if you're having too much trouble. Once Scarmiglione goes down, unequip Cecil, and then go west and approach the structure there. At this point, a very long cutscene occurs, as Cecil talks to his "father". Eventually, Cecil is forced to confront his dark self, which is the Dark Knight. When you enter combat against the Dark Knight, just use Defend until you win the battle. Once you win, Cecil has officially become a Paladin. Nice. In addition, Tellah has recalled all the spells that he had forgotten. Things are definitely looking up! Once you regain control, equip Cecil with the Paladin equipment you bought in Mysidia. Now, go back to the Save Point and rest/save. Now, it's time to level up Cecil, seeing as how he is only Level 1. I'd suggest getting him anywhere between Level 15 and 20. Before you do though, be sure to switch your group's row back to the way it was before you fought Scarmiglione. After he gets about Level 12 or so, kill off the rest of your party members, and then just solo with Cecil. It makes leveling much faster. Rest/save once you are done leveling, then make your way to the previous floor of the mountain, and then go down a bit, until you're about half way down the area (see the map to tell when you're about half way down). At this point, go east and you should see a sparkling object on the ground. Examine it to get the Curse Augment, which, as you may have already guessed, teaches Curse to a party member. If you want to use it now, I'd suggest using it on Palom, but if you want to save it for later, by all means. After getting the Curse Augment, exit the mountain via Teleport with Tellah. World Map --------- Travel across the long westward path all the way back to Mysidia. Enter it when you come to it. Mysidia ------- Starting off, if you couldn't afford all of the Paladin equipment, buy what you couldn't afford and equip it on Cecil right away. Also, be sure to sell the items you don't need (i.e. your equipment you had as a Dark Knight). Once you're done buying and selling, head to the Hall of Prayer and speak with the elder. He'll be surprised that you became a Paladin, and he even went as far as to send Palom and Porom with Cecil in order to spy on him to make sure he really intended to become a Paladin. Cecil is then told about the Mysidian legend, but the elder says he doesn't know what it means. Once the scene ends and you regain control, restock on some items and then head to the eastern end of town and enter the building there known as The Devil's Road. Inside, step inside the transporter to be transported to Baron. Baron ----- When you arrive here, head to the Inn. Inside, exit the building you're in and then head over to the Inn at the southeast side of town. Inside, go upstairs and go left. You'll see Yang along with some Baron Guards. Talk to Yang and he will send the aforementioned Baron Guards to attack you. They aren't too hard, just be careful of their counterattack, which will turn you Mini. To negate this problem, just use Twincast with Palom and Porom, and don't attack with anyone else. Twincast will eliminate them in one hit. Next up is Yang. Yang uses Kick throughout the fight, but it doesn't hurt too much. Just use Firaga with Tellah, Twincast with Palom and Porom, and have Cecil attack. He'll go down very quickly. After the fight, Yang comes to his senses, saying that he remembers that they were attacked by Leviathan. Apparently, Rydia was swallowed by Leviathan, but Edward's whereabouts are unknown. Hmm... The group decides to spend a night at the Inn. During the conversation they have before going to sleep, Yang gives Cecil a Baron Key, which will enable us to reach Baron Castle via a waterway in the east side of town. Sweet! Before we go, though, head over to the north side of town and unlock the Weapon and Armor Shop via the Baron Key. Once you unlock it, buy Yang two Ice Claws and two Fire Claws (he should already have two Lightning Claws). Then, go to the Armor Shop and buy Yang a Headband. Give that to him right away. Now, notice the wooden box in the far southeast corner of the shop? Stand along the left side of it, then hug the wall and you'll find a secret passage in the wall leading to behind the counter in both the Weapon Shop and the Armor Shop. Open the chest behind the counter of the Armor Shop to get 2000 gil. Next up is the counter behind the Weapon Shop. Open the chest there to get Zeus's Wrath. With this, exit town. World Map --------- Go southwest and enter the Chocobo Forest there. You'll encounter Recordingway there, and he'll change his name to Campingway. He'll also ask for you to give him some Tents. Go ahead and do so, as we can buy some later. Now, grab a Chocobo and ride it northwest to the Mist Cave. Get off the Chocobo once you reach the cave, then go through it and then when you emerge on the World Map, go east and enter the town Mist, the town you burned in the beginning of the game. Mist ---- Upon arrival, head east and north, going past the Inn. Get on the east side of the platform that has the Inn on it, and then head north and examine the two small bushes near the trees there to get a Bomb Fragment. Now, go directly south and you'll see a group of trees. Go east and you'll be able to go through a hidden path in the trees. When you emerge from that path, open the two invisible chests around here to get two more Bomb Fragments. Now, go to the northwest corner of the town and enter the building there. Inside, go through the fireplace and you'll find a secret passage. Take it and you'll find a room that contains two chests; one has a Gold Hairpin, and the other some Clothing. The Clothing is useless, but equip the Gold Hairpin on Porom. That's not all of the hidden items in here. Go to the southeast corner of the room and then go south to find another secret passage. Follow this secret passage to reach two more chests. Open them to get a Ruby Ring and a Polymorph Rod. I suggest equipping the Polymorph Rod on Tellah. Go ahead and exit Mist now. The shops contain nothing of importance. World Map --------- Make your way back through Mist Cave, and then go back to Baron again. Baron ----- Head over to the Weapon and Armor Shop again, and you'll run into Campingway. As usual, he changes his name, this time to Jammingway. Whatever. Once you're done with him, exit the Weapon and Armor Shop, then head east and enter the building to the south of Cid's house (in the northwestern corner). Once inside that building, you'll notice a chest on the touch screen map. Go through the secret passage along the wall to the east, and open it to get 1000 gil. Now, go back to the entrance of the building, and go down the stairs to reach the Ancient Waterway. Ancient Waterway ---------------- Once here, head all the way south, then east at the split, and open the chests you come across to get a Hi-Potion, an Ether, and Zeus's Wrath. Now head over to the northeastern corner of the area, then go through the door leading to the next area of the waterway. In the next area, go east and south at the path split, then after you can't go south anymore, hug the wall to find a secret passage. It'll lead to a chest containing a Bronze Hourglass. Go south and at the end of the path, hug the wall to find another secret passage. Follow it to another small area of this room. Go north there and open the chest to get a Spider Silk. Now, hug the western side of the wall and go through the secret passage again. Make your way back to the very first part of this area, where you entered at. From there, hug the eastern side of the wall and you'll find another secret passage that leads to another small enclosed area. Hug the eastern side of the wall in this small area to find yet another secret passage. When you reach yet another new part of this area, go south and then north, opening the chest you come across to get some Hermes Sandals. After you get that, hug the southern end of the wall and you'll find another secret passage. Follow it east to the final part of this area. Go north and through the door to finally be out of this area of the waterway. You should now be at B2. Go to the north end of the room, but don't take the exit. Instead, go left through a secret passage in the wall, and open the chest to get an Ether. Go back through the secret passage and go through the door into the next area. In this area (which is B1), there are two exits: one to the northwest, and one to the northeast. Take the northwestern one for now, and you'll appear in a room with a Save Point. Get on the Save Point, then go east through a secret passage in the wall. Open the chest to get an Ancient Sword. Although this sword has 5 less Attack Power than the Mythgraven Blade you currently possess, it does inflict Curse upon enemies, so it's up to you on whether or not you want to equip it. I personally would pass, and just sell it for money later, but it's up to you. At any rate, save your game after getting the Ancient Sword, and then exit this room. Now, go ahead and take the northeastern exit to reach Baron Castle. Baron Castle ------------ When you arrive here, go all the way south, then when the path splits to the east, you should see some stairs in the water leading up into the castle. Go up said stairs, then go due north, past the door, and enter the west tower. Once inside, make your way up to the top, where you'll be able to rest in Cecil's room. After resting, exit the west tower and head all the way south, back to the door I told you to ignore earlier. Don't go in it, but go due east of there, and go through that door. From there, make your way into the main part of the castle (1F). Once inside, equip Yang with two Ice Claws, then equip Counter on Cecil again. Now, head east and you'll encounter Baigan, the guy who was with King Baron in the beginning of the game. Baigan will say that he's going to join you and help you fight, but Palom and Porom sense that something is amiss. Baigan denies their accusations at first, but then transforms into a monster and attacks you. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Baigan/Left Arm/Right Arm | | HP: (Baigan) 4247 | | HP: (Left Arm) 1800 (?) | | HP: (Right Arm) 1800 (?) | | Strengths: (Baigan) N/A | | Strengths: (Left Arm) N/A | | Strengths: (Right Arm) N/A | | Absorbs: (Baigan) N/A | | Absorbs: (Left Arm) N/A | | Absorbs: (Right Arm) N/A | | Weaknesses: (Baigan) Ice | | Weaknesses: (Left Arm) N/A | | Weaknesses: (Right Arm) N/A | | Experience Points: 21235 | | Gil: 350 gil | | Location: Baron Castle | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: In spite of Baigan having three body parts, this fight really isn't too bad. You should ignore the arms, and just aim for the main body. The arms regenerate as long as the main body is alive, so attacking them is useless. Have Cecil attack, have Tellah use Blizzaga on Baigan's body. Once you do, he will cast Reflect on himself, meaning you can't use magic spells on him, or else they'll bounce off him and in turn hit you. Have Palom and Porom use Twincast to compensate for the Reflect. You should have Yang use Focus three times, and then attack Baigan for a good bit of damage. An alternate thing to do with Tellah is to cast Bio instead of Blizzaga, which will drain Baigan's HP gradually throughout the fight. However, he's weak to Ice, so I'd recommend using Blizzaga. You could also use Haste on your group in order to keep up with Baigan, since he gets a lot of turns due to being three separate body parts. In addition, Baigan casts Haste on himself later on in the fight, giving you more reason to cast Haste on your group. Baigan also inflicts Blind on your group at times, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem, unless it is done to Yang or Cecil, in which case you should promptly heal it. I wouldn't risk using Blizzaga a second time after you do it once, since you never know when Reflect has wore off. If you're going to do it again, wait at least a minute and a half to two minutes, just to be safe. Once Baigan's body is destroyed, his arms will explode, just like how Mom Bomb exploded and hit your group for massive damage. Quickly kill off the arms before this happens. NOTE: Before venturing onward to the next boss, note that this is your last chance to give Palom and Porom the necessary Augments in order to gain a great Augment later on. You need to give them each at least one Augment, and a total of 3 Augments altogether (i.e. give Porom 1 Augment, and Palom 2 Augments). If you don't do this now, you miss out on something good later. Just warning you. The Augment I'm referring to is Dualcast. See the Augments section for information on other Augments you can get during your visit to Mysidia just after we defeat the upcoming boss. Once Baigan has been defeated, go back and rest in Cecil's room, then head back to the Ancient Waterway and save your game. Then, make your way back to Baron Castle again. Once there, remove Palom and Porom of their equipment. After that, go to 1F where you encountered Baigan. Then, head north of where Baigan was, and then go through the few doors that will ultimately lead to the throne room. Once inside, King Baron talks to Cecil, telling him that he looks like he's gotten stronger from his journey. He'll also say notice that Cecil has become a Paladin, and then he'll be quick to say that that isn't good. He'll then reveal his true form, which is Cagnazzo, the Fiend of Water. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Cagnazzo | | HP: 10477 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: Water | | Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder | | Experience Points: 53285 | | Gil: 400 gil | | Location: Baron Castle | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This is quite a difficult fight, and Cagnazzo is quite impressive when you consider what he was in the other releases of this game. First of all, let me start by explaining that Cagnazzo is only weak to Ice _ONLY_ when the water isn't surrounding him. If the water IS surrounding him, then that's the only _ONLY_ time he's weak to Thunder. He'll start off without water surrounding him. However, that quickly changes, and he'll summon water to his feet shortly after the battle begins. To negate this, have Palom use Thundara. Thundaga with Tellah also works, and is far more effective. Have Porom use an MT Haste on the entire group when the battle starts. This will give Palom and Tellah the speed they need to quickly invoke Thundara and Thundaga. You have to quickly attack Cagnazzo with a Lightning-elemental attack when he puts water beside his feet, or else he'll use Tsunami, which is a powerful Water-elemental MT attack that damages your entire party for a good bit of damage. Tsunami has a good chance to cause Instant Death to at least one member of your group, and most of the time, multiple party members will fall to it. This is why it is prudent to cast Haste on your group at the start of the battle, as when you hit Cagnazzo with a Lightning-elemental attack when he has the water at his feet, the water will quickly recede, and he won't be able to do Tsunami. With the water gone, his weakness changes from Thunder to Ice. Have Tellah use Blizzaga during this phase, and have Palom be prepared to use Thundara, so when the water is summoned again, he can dissolve it. This means don't attack with Palom when Cagnazzo is weak to Ice, so that you always know for sure you can get in a Thundara as he builds the water. Have Cecil attack, and have Yang use Focus three times before attacking. You should still have the Ice Claws equipped from when you fought Baigan, so attack Cagnazzo with them, provided he doesn't have water at his feet. During the phase where he is weak to Ice, have Porom heal the group with Cura. Cagnazzo will counter with Silence and Hold, so be sure to them when that happens. Also, Cagnazzo will cast Slow on you at times, so watch out for that as well. As long as you don't let him fire off a Tsunami, you should be okay. He has some moderately strong physical attacks, but the damage done by them can be taken care of quite easily, via the use of an MT Cura from Porom. After the battle, Cid will mistake Cecil and the group for more Baronian soldiers, but he quickly realizes who it is, and then after a short scene, Cid joins your group. Your group will automaitcally exit the throne room. After exiting, though, Cagnazzo darkens the room and causes the walls on each side to cave in. In addition, he locks both doors in the room. This means we have no way out. Bastard. Palom and Porom seem to have some sort of plan, but what is it? Turns out, their plan is for one of them each to get on a separate side of the wall, and then use Break on themselves while pushing against the wall as a means to stop it from crushing the group. Tellah tries to use Esuna to cure them, but it's useless because they have become stone of their own will. The group is very distressed by the loss of Palom and Porom. So am I, but not in a sentimental kinda way. I'm sad because we've lost two great mages. ;_; Good thing we removed their equipment. :) At any rate, once the scene ends, the scene switches to Golbez, Kain, and Rosa. Golbez notices that Cagnazzo has been defeated, and he notes that Cecil is a formidable opponent. He sends for Kain to be the messenger as a means to use Cecil to get the Crystal of Earth. After the scene, the group will appear in a room close to Cid's airship, the Enterprise. After some talking, Cid will reveal a hidden path leading to the Enterprise. Once the group boards the Enterprise, Cid will fire up the engine. World Map --------- When the Enterprise is in the sky, the group notices another ship in the vicinity. The ship lands directly next to the Enterprise, and on it is none other than Kain! Kain tells Cecil to get the Crystal of Earth from Troia for him, or else Rosa's life is not guaranteed. After a futile attempt from the group to revert Kain back to normal, he leaves, warning Cecil that time is short. At this point, you regain control of Cecil and the group, this time on the Enterprise. Don't go to Troia just yet. Instead, reenter Baron Castle. It's time to collect a few items. Baron Castle ------------ Go north until you reach 1F. From there, go east and down the stairs, and you will be outside. Outside, go east and down the stairs and then in the room you come to, go south and you'll appear in an unexplored room. Here, go south and west and through the secret passage in the wall. Follow the path to six chests containing two Ethers, two Unicorn Horns, and two Phoenix Downs. Now, go back through the secret passage and to the entrance of this room. From there, head south and through the door to appear outside again. Once outside, go all the way north and enter the east tower. Inside, open the four chests you see before you to get two Bacchu's Wines as well as two Hermes Sandals. Now, go up the stairs to the right and in the room you come to, open the two chests to get two Hi-Potions. Go up the stairs to the left and in the following room, open the three chests to get an Ether and two Tents. Now, make your way to the previous floor and go down the stairs to the left to reach B1. Once there, examine the very first candle to get an Elixir. You can see the spirit of the real King Baron if you continue downstairs to B2, but you can't do anything with him right now, and that will be the case for a long time. Once you're done, head back to 1F, and this time, head down the stairs on the west side of the room. When you are outside along the western portion of the castle in the vicinity of the west tower, go all the way south of the west tower, past the door on the left, and go down the opening and into the water. Go left and all the way north, then go through the entrance leading to the Ancient Waterway. Once inside the Ancient Waterway, make your way to B3 (you start in B1). Once there, head all the way south, then hug the western side of the wall to find a secret passage. Go through it, then go all the way north and examine the sparkling mass to get the Tsunami Augment. Nifty. With that, use Warp twice with Tellah, then you should be back in B1, at the entrance of the place. Exit back to Baron Castle, and then go to the World Map. World Map --------- Before we go off to Troia, there are still places we can visit and collect items from. If you want to have an easier time with the Troia segment, I suggest you go along with this. The first place to head to is Mysidia. Board the Enterprise and fly there. Mysidia ------- Nothing to do here except to collect some Augments. Head to the Hall of Prayer. Once there, go north into the Crystal Room, then go north and through the door which will take you to the Prayer Dias, where the elder is. Talk to him, and depending on whether or not you've met the requirements needed to get them, he'll give you the Cry, Bluff, Twincast, and Dualcast Augments. Nifty. I mentioned earlier in the FAQ about our little visit to Mysidia to obtain some Augments, so don't say I didn't warn you. If you looked at the Augments section like I told you to earlier, you should be able to get them all. If not...heh, well it's your loss, although I certainly hope you got Dualcast. At any rate, once you get the Augments, exit Mysidia, as there's nothing left to do here. World Map --------- Board the Enterprise, and then fly to Kaipo, but don't land. Once you are near Kaipo, fly all the way to the east, then once you see an island that juts out pretty far, fly to the east of it, and then fly to the south and you should see a small island with a town on it. Land there, and enter said town. Mythril ------- Once here, head to the southwestern corner of town near the Inn, and examine the flowers in between the trees. They're a little difficult to notice, but noticable nonetheless. By examining the flowers, you get a Diet Ration. Now, go east, past the Inn and the other building, and examine the well there to get a Maiden's Kiss. With that, head to the Weapon and Armor Shop, but don't go in it. Instead, examine the grassy area to the east of it by the miniature frog, and you'll find an invisible chest containing a Mythril Knife. Now, do you see the large bush near the Weapon Shop? Examine it to get a whopping 5000 gil! There's one more item to get in here. Head east of the Weapon and Armor Shop, and you should notice a house. Go east and past that house, and then search around the trees near the barrels and the wooden crates, and you'll find an invisible chest containing a Mythril Staff. Head over to the Weapon Shop and buy Cid a Mythril Hammer, equipping it on him right away. Don't sell his Wooden Hammer, though, as you'll need it relatively shortly. Now head over to the Armor Shop and buy Cid a Mythril Shield, and also a Mythril Helm and also some Mythril Gloves. Don't bother with the armor, as it's way too expensive, and definitely not worth it. Also, don't buy Cecil any of this Mythril equipment, either, because again, it's not worth it. Now, sell off all of your old equipment, including the Mythril Staff and the Mythril Knife you just got from this town. Keep Cid's Wooden Hammer though, as well as some Ruby Rings. Also, be sure to keep all of Yang's elemental claws, as well as some equipment for Tellah, and definitely don't sell the Gold Hairpin, no matter what you do. Rosa will need this later. Once you have sold your items, exit town. World Map --------- Board the Enterprise and fly to Baron. From there, fly to the south and land on the small island you come across that has a town on it. Enter said town after landing on the continent. Agart ----- Once here, head all the way to the northwest corner of the town, but don't go up the hill. Instead, examine the large bush to the east of the stairs leading up to the hill to get a Cottage. Now, go west, south, and then east and examine the three small bushes to get a Potion. Now, look at the map and you should notice that in the center of town is a well surrounded by landscape. Go behind the landscape that surrounds the well, and then go to the building in the vicinity. Examine the small bush to get an Antarctic Wind. Once you grab that, head west and examine the northern portion of the large bush to get a Gaia Drum item. Now, go over to the northwest corner of the town again, and go up the hill this time. Go all the way to the southern end of the hill and examine the small bush there to get a Hi-Potion. With that, exit town. World Map --------- Board the Enterprise once again. This time, fly to the southwestern continent on the World Map. Once there, you should see a giant tower, as well as a castle along the southeastern shore of the island. Land beside the aforementioned castle, rest/save, then enter it. Eblan Castle ------------ We don't actually have to go here, we're just here to collect items. You do have to fight some enemies here though, most of which are tough, so do be careful. Starting off, head north until you reach the main area of the castle (1F). Once there, head to the northern corner of the room and next to the stairs is a secret passage on the wall to the east, so use it to reach a chest containing a Hi-Potion. Now, head on up the stairs to 2F, and then once you reach 2F, simply go up the next set of stairs to reach 3F. What seems like a dead end is actually not. Hug the central part of the left wall and go through the secret passage you find. It'll lead to stairs, which you should go down. In the room you come to, open the two chests to get a Unicorn Horn and an Alarm Clock. Go back up the stairs and through the secret passage. This time, go to the opposite side of the wall and hug it, going through the secret passage, down the stairs, and into a room containing three chests. They contain a Gold Needle, a Maiden's Kiss, and a Cottage. Now, head outside. Once outside, make your way to the west tower. It should be obvious how to get there. Once inside, go north and up the stairs into 2F. In 2F, hug the southeastern corner of the wall and go through the secret passage to reach two chests, which contain some Silencing Arrows as well as 10000 gil, respectively. After getting the loot from the chests, examine the bottom most jar along the northern side of the room to get some Bacchu's Wine. With that, go back down the stairs to 1F. Go to the entrance, and go due east and hug the wall there to find another secret passage. Follow it to a chest containing a Sleep Blade. Unfortunately, we have to beat up some enemies before we can obtain this. Have Cecil Cover Tellah, and then just have the rest of the group Defend. Tellah should use Break on each of them to defeat them. Once you get that item, head back to 2F. Once there, search the southwestern wall to find a hidden staircase leading to another portion of 1F. Here, go north and open the chest to get a Bomb Core. With that, exit the west tower and head to the east tower. Once in the east tower, go to the north end of the room and near the stairs leading to 2F, is a secret passage in the wall to the left. Go through it and follow it around to a chest containing Coeurl Whisker. Now, backtrack to the stairs leading to 2F, but don't go up them yet. Instead, examine the jar on the table to the east to get a Ninja Sutra. Now, go up the stairs to 2F. Press the yellow switch on the wall to open the door to the left. Go through it and open the chests here to get two Hi-Potions, and an Emergency Exit. You've probably noticed the fourth chest at the far eastern end of the room, and you are also probably wondering why I didn't give it mention earlier, right? That's because you can't just go over there and open it like you did the first three. To reach it, go through the secret passage east of the two center chests, and then open it to get a Blood Lance. You're attacked by more enemies, unfortunately. Like the previous bunch, these enemies are susceptible to Break, so use that. Once you get the Blood Lance, drop down the hole to reach a previous room. In this room, skirt around the edges of the hole (you can do it on either side), and open the chest to get a Silver Hourglass. Drop down the hole and you'll appear in a huge room. Examine the first candle to get another Ninja Sutra. Now, go west and south, opening the three chests to get two Ethers, as well as a Silver Apple. You have to defeat enemies for the Silver Apple, though. Luckily, this fight isn't as bad as the others. Break is your friend once again. After winning the fight and getting the Silver Apple, follow the path out of this dreadful place. World Map --------- Back on the World Map, board the Enterprise. Fly to the northwesternmost continent on the World Map, and search around the heavily forested continent until you find a town as well as a castle along the southwestern shores of a portion of the continent. Land the Enterprise, save your game, and enter the town there. Troia ----- Starting off, go northeast and behind the Inn. You'll encounter Jammingway. He'll change his name to Cheatingway, as he promised two girls he'd go out with them. After talking to Cheatingway, go to the front of the Inn, and you should see some stairs leading down into the water. Get in the water, and follow the very long path until you reach an invisible chest to get a Phoenix Down. Once you get that, look on the map, and head to the stairs along the northwestern portion of the water, and climb those stairs to get out of the water. Now, go west through the trees and into a small area. There, open the invisible chest to get a Dry Ether. To the west of that chest is another invisible chest that contains an Ether. Now, notice the dirt patch in the center of the area? To the northeast of that dirt patch is another chest containing 1000 gil, so open it. Now, examine the western side of the dirt patch to get a Decoy. Now, the next thing you need to do is head back through the water and all the way to the beginning of town again. Once there, head to the Weapon and Armor Shop, but don't go inside. Instead, examine the large bush on the east side of the Weapon Shop to get a Tent. After that, use the nearby bridges to get behind the shop. Examine the large bush behind the Weapon Shop to get a Hi-Potion, and then examine the dirt patch to the west of the Armor Shop to get another Hi-Potion. Phew, I think that about covers all of the hidden items in Troia. I dunno about you, but I'm about worn out! -_- There is still one more thing left to do here, though. Head over to the Pub, which is the building behind the Armor Shop. Once inside, talk to the girl standing behind the counter, and she'll give you some milk. Cheatingway then comes in and thanks you for helping him out, then he leaves. Whatever. Now, you can exit the Pub if you want, though do note that the guy sitting at the table left of the entrance sells you an item called a Member's Writ, which allows you to ultimately gain access to a new Augment. However, notice the steep price; a whopping 100000 gil. There's no way we can afford this right now, I was just letting you know of this so you could come back later. With that, go to the Weapon Shop and buy a Fireshard for Cecil, but don't equip it on him yet. You'll need it for the upcoming dungeon. The building in the northeastern corner of town is the Black Chocobo Farm. It is quite uselss, so ignore it, and we're outta here after you buy the Fireshard. Enter the nearby Troia Castle, saving your game before you do so. Troia Castle ------------ When you arrive here, go north until you reach 1F. Once there, take the stairs along the southwestern end of the room and you'll be outside, where you should head south, then east and enter the west tower. Inside, you'll see Edward lying in bed. Approach him and a cutscene will commence, as Edward learns about Rydia's fate. Saddened that he can do nothing but lie in bed while you fight, he gives you the Key Item Whisperweed, saying that it is the only way he can aid you. Now, head back to 1F and this time, take the stairs on the opposite end of the room. They'll lead you outside, so go ahead and enter the east tower. Once inside the east tower. there are three different paths you can take. The left one is useless to us right now, so go down the stairs along the middle path. In the empty room you come to, examine the jar to get a Bacchu's Wine, then go back up the stairs to the previous room. This time, go east and take the stairs you come across, which will lead to a room with 8 chests, the contents of which are ours. Sweet. Open the chests to get two Tents, two Hi- Potions, two Ethers, and two Ruby Rings. Now that you've done that, it's time to exit Troia Castle. World Map --------- Back on the World Map, before heading to our next destination, I suggest you level up some. I'd recommend getting everyone to at least Level 25. The enemies here can be difficult, though, as they are capable of doing Instant Death attacks, Stone attacks, Stop attacks, and Paralyze attacks. Just save your game often, just in case you die. Once you've leveled up and are ready, go all the way north from Troia Castle and enter the small circular forest detached from the main area of forest. This is a Chocobo Forest, as you may have already guessed. Grab a Black Chocobo, and then fly to the east and you should notice on the map that there are two sides of a mountain sticking out into the ocean, detached from the mainland. Fly your Black Chocobo through this, then land by the cave and rest/save and enter it. Lodestone Cavern ---------------- First off, remove all of Cid's equipment, save for the Wooden Hammer. Then, remove the Silver Armlet from Yang, the Silver Armlet from Tellah, and then remove all of Cecil's equipment, but be sure to give him the Fireshard sword you were supposed to buy in Troia. Also, be sure to give your group some Ruby Rings that you've been saving for quite some time now, so that at least they will have some Defense. If you want to save the hassle of fighting without good equipment, just run away from each of the battles. At any rate, when you're ready, go all the way east, across the bridge, and to the chest. Open it to get a Hi-Potion. Now, go back west and then go south across the bridge, and follow the path through the remainder of a room. At the end of the room, open the chest to get a Unicorn Horn. After that, go down the stairs leading to the next area. In this area, go west, north, west, and then south, ignoring the northern path for now. You'll come to a chest in the southwestern corner of the room that contains an Ether. Now, take the northern path I told you to ignore earlier. Examine the map until the northeastern door is revealed, then go through it to a room with two chests containing 2000 gil, as well as an Ether. Nice. Exit the room and then head west and south and go through the door when you reach it. In this next new area, go west and enter the door and you'll be in a small room with nothing but a Save Point. Rest/save here, then exit the room. Back in the previous room, head all the way to the southeast corner of the room and enter the door there. Open the chests in the room you appear in to get a Hi- Potion, a Bronze Hourglass, and some Spider Silk. Exit this room and head west and follow the path to a door in the northwestern corner, which you should go through to reach another room. In this small room, its mapping already complete, open the chest to get a Fairie Claw. Give it to Yang and continue onward, exiting this room. In the room you come to, go all the way west, then north at the split, then when you reach a door leading out of here, ignore it and head west and then south at the split, opening the chet to get an Emergency Exit. There is a room with a Save Point in the northeastern portion of this area, and I suggest you go there and rest/save, as a boss battle is about to commence. Regardless, go through the door I told you to ignore earlier when you're ready to progress onward. You'll appear in the Crystal Room, and guarding the Earth Crystal is the Dark Elf. Talk to him to start a battle. You have to lose this. Once you get manhandled by the Dark Elf, Edward sense you are in danger and begins to play his harp. The Whisperweed is reacting to the tune of Edward's harp. Apparently, Dark Elf hates this music, and this weakens him and the magnetic field in the process. You now regain control of your group. Don't talk to Dark Elf yet, but re-equip your group with their weapons and armors they had on before entering this cave. With that, talk to the Dark Elf and begin the real fight. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Dark Elf/Dark Dragon | | HP: (Dark Elf) 4500 (?) | | HP: (Dark Dragon) 3500 (?) | | Strengths: (Dark Elf) N/A | | Strengths: (Dark Dragon) N/A | | Absorbs: (Dark Elf) Darkness | | Absorbs: (Dark Dragon) Darkness | | Weaknesses: (Dark Elf) Fire, Holy | | Weaknesses: (Dark Dragon) Fire, Holy | | Experience Points: 39765 | | Gil: 500 gil | | Location: Lodestone Cavern | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: The first phase of the fight consists of Dark Elf's inferior form. This is very easy. Just have Tellah use Silence on him, then he just sits there, aside from occasionally using Hex, which turns you into a Pig (can be cured with Esuna or Diet Ration). Once you've silenced him, just have Cecil, Yang and Cid attack, and have Tellah use Firaga. Easy. Next up is Dark Elf's true form, the Dark Dragon. This son of a gun can be quite difficult if you aren't careful. Quickly have Cid use Spider Silk to cast Slow on Dark Dragon. Then have Tellah use Firaga, have Cecil attack, and have Yang either use Focus three times and then attack, or have him use Bacchu's Wine on himself to put the Berserk status aliment on him. Yang will become a powerhouse with Berserk on. Either method works, so do whichever. There is one attack that makes the fight against Dark Dragon a potentially difficult one: Dark Breath. This is a very powerful MT attack that hits all your party members for massive, Darkness-based damage. This can deal upwards of 800-1000 damage to all your party members if you don't have Defend in effect. This is the reason it is prudent to use Spider Silk on Dark Dragon at the start of the fight, so that he'll be slower in using it, and hopefully you can take him out before then. If you're having trouble, just have everyone Defend at the start of the fight until Dark Dragon uses Dark Breath, then have Tellah heal with Curaja and then start the offense. This is a risky gamble, though. Once you defeat the Dark Elf, be sure to take the Earth Crystal from where he was standing. Then, use Teleport to exit the dungeon (be sure to exit the Crystal Room first, or it won't work). World Map --------- Once on the World Map, get on the Black Chocobo and it'll fly you back to the Chocobo Forest. At this point, exit the Chocobo Forest and head back to Troia Castle. Troia Castle ------------ Head north until you reach 1F. In 1F, go north and through the door to reach the room with the Epopts of Troia. Once in that room, go north a bit and then the room will darken, as Kain calls out to you, telling you to go outside and board the ship, and he'll take you to where Golbez is. Once you regain control and the room brightens up, talk to all eight of the Epopts, then exit the room and you'll be back in 1F. Once there, take the staircase along the eastern side of the room. Then, make your way into the east tower. Once inside, head into the nearby cell where the woman is. Talk to her and tell her you've gotten the Epopts's permission. She'll then open a secret passage in the wall for you. Take said path, then go down the stairs to another room. In this room, open all of the many chests to get a Hi- Potion, Remedy, Ether, Dry Ether, Elixir, Echo Herbs, Great Bow, Fire Arrows, 5000 gil, Hi-Potion, Remedy, Ether, Dry Ether, Silver Apple, Echo Herbs, Ice Arrows, 50000 gil, and Lightning Arrows. Now that you've opened the 18 chests, exit Troia Castle and board the Enterprise. Kain will take you to the Tower of Zot, where Rosa is being held. Tower of Zot ------------ Upon arriving, Golbez says a few things and then you regain control. To the left of you is a transporter that will take you out of the tower, should the need arise. Go to the northwest corner of the room and open the chest to get a Flame Mail. Put this on Cecil, then exit this room via the door in the northeastern corner of the room. In the next room, go left and follow the path until you come across a door, which you should ignore for now. Go south and east, past the door and open the chest to get a Flame Sword. You have to fight a Flamehound. Under normal circumstances, these bastards are very tough. Use Berserk with Tellah, and hope it hits. Once it hits, the Flamehound will do nothing but physical attacks. Be careful, though, as its phyiscal attack can still deal upwards of 800-1000 damage to a party member if you don't have Defend in effect. Once he is Berserked, use Blizzaga with Tellah, then just attack with the rest of the group. If Yang has Ice Claws, all the better. Once you defeat it and gain the Flame Sword, go back through the door I told you to ignore earlier. In the room you come to, explore the map until you reveal all of the doorways. First off, take the western door, and inside the area you come to (5F), go south and open the chest to get a Gaia Hammer. Give it to Cid, then exit this room and you'll be back in 4F. This time, take the northern one to reach 5F. In 5F, open the nearby chest to get Hell Claws. Give to Yang, then go west and south and open the chest to get a Flame Shield. Give it to Cecil, then backtrack and go through the only accessible door in here, and you'll reach 4F again. This time, take the eastern door and in the area of 5F you come to, open the chest to get a Sage's Surplice. Give that to Tellah, then exit back to 4F. Now, take the only door you haven't been through yet (the far eastern one). Once you reach 5F again, follow the path and enter the door you come to. The main attack of the Magus Sisters is their delta attack. Sandy (the tall one) will cast Reflect on Cindy (the fat one), and then Mindy (the shrimp) will cast a level-2 elemental spell (i.e. Thundara) on Cindy, which will bounce off her and hit your group. While the spells themselves aren't terribly powerful, this can get annoying after awhile, and even deadly. To negate the delta attack, have Tellah use Silence on Sandy at the start of the battle. Use Dispel on Cindy if Sandy Reflects her because you get the chance to Silence her. With Sandy silenced, she'll do nothing but sit there the entire fight, literally. Since Cindy revives her two sisters if they die before she does, you'll want to take out Cindy first. Have Cecil attack, have Yang attack or Focus three times then attack (the latter is better, but takes more time), have Cid attack, and have Tellah use any aga (i.e. Firaga) spell. Although the delta attack has been negated, Cindy still poses a serious threat, as she will counter you at times with a powerful physical attack. Thankfully, this attack is ST, or we'd be in trouble. Quickly revive any of your party members that die from Cindy's powerful ST. She'll also use it at random sometimes, and not just during a counter. Once Cindy is dead, focus all your attacks on Mindy. She'll occasionally use a level-2 spell, but it's nothing to worry about. Beat her the same way you did Cindy. Once Mindy is dead, finish off Sandy the same way you did the other two sisters. Once you defeat the Magus Sisters, remove Tellah of his equipment, then go back and rest/save at the Save Point, then go through the door the Magus Sisters were guarding. In the room you come to, make your way to the door behind the one you're beside when you enter the room. A cutscene commences as you near the door. Cecil gives Golbez the Earth Crystal, but then Golbez does not give Rosa back. Tellah then attacks Golbez, using level-3 spells on him. After those fail, he uses Meteor, in attempt to kill Golbez. That too fails, and Tellah only ends up killing himself. Golbez then knocks Cecil back, and as he is about to finish him off, he relents, realizing something about Cecil. Golbez attempts to get Kain to come with him, but apparently, Tellah's Meteor has broken Golbez's control over Kain. The group rushes over to Tellah's side, and then he dies, after begging the group to avenge Anna. Once you regain control, examine the sparkling object to get the Recall Augment, Then, talk to Kain, and he'll tell you that Rosa is in the room beyond. The group quickly hurries there, and just as they free Rosa, a guillotine is dropped where she was just a second before. After a bit of a touchy moment, and some more dialogue, you regain control as Rosa and Kain join your group. Now, before doing anything, equip Rosa with the following (you should have all of them; if not, just equip the best you have): Great Bow, Lightning Arrows, Gold Hairpin, Sage's Surplice, and Silver Armlet. Don't bother equipping Kain, as he comes equipped. With that, go south a bit and the room will darken, as Barbariccia, the Fiend of Wind, shows up. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Barbariccia | | HP: 12371 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: N/A | | Weaknesses: N/A | | Experience Points: 61855 | | Gil: 1000 gil | | Location: Tower of Zot | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: There's an easy way to win this, and a hard way to win it. I'll start by listing the easy way first. Have Yang Focus three times and then attack. Since Barbariccia counterattacks with Lightning, a very powerful MT spell that deals upwards of 800-1000 damage, you'll want to only attack with Yang (after he has Focused three times) and Kain. She won't counterattack if Kain uses Jump, so only attack with that. Also, only have Yang attack when Barbariccia is in her normal form, though, as when she is in her tornado form, you can't hurt her. Have Yang use Hermes Sandals on himself before attacking, so that he'll have an inherent Haste (if he dies, use it again). To get her to revert to her normal self when she is in the tornado, have Kain Jump. Have Cid use Spider Silk (even if you're doing the hard strategy, do this), have Cecil Cover Rosa, and have Rosa use MT Cura to cure the group. This is the easy method of fighting her. The hard method is for you to start the battle off by using Spider Silk, then have Rosa use an MT Protect and then an MT Shell, in order to be able to stand up to Barbariccia's very deadly counterattacks, Maelstrom and Lightning. Maelstrom gets everyone's HP down to 1, and I've already explained to you what Lightning does. Once you have Protect/Shell on, have Cecil attack (remember, only when she is in normal form), have Kain Jump, have Cid attack, have Rosa Heal, and have Yang Focus three times (use a Hermes Sandals, as well), and then attack. You could also have Cecil ignore attacking and just Cover Rosa if you're using the harder strategy. If you thought about using Upgrade with Cid, don't bother, since Barbariccia isn't weak to any element. In the harder strategy, keep your HP healed at all times, and do your absolute best to keep Rosa alive, so that she can cast Shell/ Protect on your group again, since it'll wear off eventually. If you have the Cry Augment currently set to a party member, you can use that to make the fight a bit easier, by lowering Barbariccia's Defense. After defeating Barbariccia, she'll mention that the last of the Four Fiends is still alive, and is the best of them all. She'll then cause the tower to begin to collapse on you. Rosa calls the group near her, and then uses Teleport to warp the group out of the tower. You end up in Baron Castle, in Cecil's room. Baron Castle ------------ The group converses in Cecil's bedroom about their next course of action. Kain explains that Golbez only has 4 crystals, and he needs the 4 Dark Crystals before he has them all. Apparently, there's still time to beat Golbez to them, so Kain gives you a Magma Stone that you have to use in an unknown location to reach the Underworld where the Dark Crystals are. Once the scene ends and you regain control the next morning, exit Baron Castle. World Map --------- Board the Enterprise, and fly to the northwest continent where Troia is. Land in between Troia Castle and the town of Troia, and then go north into the Chocobo Forest. Once there, mount a Black Chocobo, and fly back to the Lodestone Cavern. The magnetic field is gone this time, so don't worry. Go all the way through it and enter the Crystal Room. In there, examine the sparkling object on the ground to get the Whirlwind Augment. Nice. With that done, exit the Crystal Room and use Teleport to get out of here. Back on the World Map, get on the Black Chocobo, and it'll take you back to the Chocobo Forest. Exit the forest, then go south back to the Enterprise, and then board it. Fly back to Agart, which we visited earlier, and then enter it. Agart ----- When you arrive here, go north and up the stairs, then approach the well and use the Magma Stone on it. Lava will then spew out from it, and a hole will be carved in the ground between the mountains outside. Once you regain control, exit Agart, board the Enterprise, hover over the hole you just created via the lava, and then land down the hole and you'll appear in the Underworld. Underworld ---------- Upon arriving in the Underworld, the Red Wings will shoot down the Enterprise. You'll then be forced to travel on foot. ;_; Well, nothing better to do than to enter the nearby Dwarven Castle. Before doing so, make it where there are three people in the front row, and two in the back. Put Kain, Yang, and Cecil in the front, and Cid and Rosa in the back. You'll need this formation for an upcoming boss fight. Dwarven Castle -------------- Once here, remove Cid of all of his equipment, and then head north into the main area of the castle. Once there, go north one room to reach the throne room. When you reach the throne room, the group will encounter the king of the castle, King Giott. Come to find out, Giott is not our enemy, so at least we have a place of shelter down here in the Underworld. At least it's something. Cid will leave your group to add some Mythril plating to the Enterprise, so that it can withstand the magma in the Underworld. The dwarves have promised to give us the resources needed to repair the Enterprise. Nice. During the middle of the conversation, Yang senses that someone is eavsdropping, and so King Giott orders the door behind them on the wall to be opened. Come to find out, there WAS somebody eavsdropping on the conversation. Well, actually, quite a few "things" were listening in. You'll enter combat against the Calcabrina, dolls that serve Golbez. Creepy... O_O ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Brina (x3)/Calca (x3)/Calcabrina | | HP: (Brina) 579 (each) | | HP: (Calca) 1379 (each) | | HP: (Calcabrina) 4600 | | Strengths: (Brina) N/A | | Strengths: (Calca) N/A | | Strengths: (Calcabrina) N/A | | Absorbs: (Brina) N/A | | Absorbs: (Calca) N/A | | Absorbs: (Calcabrina) N/A | | Weaknesses: (Brina) N/A | | Weaknesses: (Calca) N/A | | Weaknesses: (Calcabrina) N/A | | Experience Points: 41170 | | Gil: N/A | | Location: Dwarven Castle | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: First off, note that it's possible to win this fight without having to fight Calcabrina. You can just dispose of the six dolls (Calca and Brina) at the start of the fight if you're skilled enough. The Twincast Augment, if you have it, works wonders here, so use it if you have it. If you don't, then you won't be able to kill all of them before they transform into Calcabrina, the main boss. The fight against the six dolls is easy enough, and shouldn't merit explanation. Once they fuse into Calcabrina, the real fight begins. Luckily, Calcabrina doesn't have a whole lot of HP. She does have a nasty physical attack, though, that she often uses as a counter (and sometimes, even as a non-counter) to your attacks. Have Cecil Cover Rosa and attack, have Kain use Jump, have Yang toss a Spider Silk at Calcabrina before doing anything else. After he does that, have him use Focus three times, and then attack for significant damage. If you have the Cry Augment, use it to lower Calcabrina's Defense. Have Rosa cast Protect on the group. You'll probably still die by her strong physical attack even with Protect on, but there's a chance Yang and Cecil will survive it at full health. Keep your HP up, quickly revive any dead party members, and repeat this strategy as needed until you win. This fight isn't too bad, especially when compared to Barbariccia. Note that if you don't finish the fight fast enough, Calcabrina will revert back to the six dolls that you faced during the beginning of the fight. When they fuse into Calcabrina again, I'm not sure if her HP recovers or not. After winning, Golbez enters the room and confronts you. You have to lose at first, but be sure to quickly use a Spider Silk on Golbez at the start of the fight. You'll die, but at least he'll be slowed so when the real fight begins, you'll have an advantage. Golbez will kill all but Cecil, and as he is about to kill Cecil, Rydia interferes and saves you, and the real battle begins. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Golbez | | HP: 10000 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: N/A | | Weaknesses: N/A | | Experience Points: 40000 | | Gil: 1100 gil | | Location: Dwarven Castle | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: Your first priority should be to bring Rosa back. With Golbez Slowed, you have a shot at bringing her back. However, when you bring Rosa back, she'll most likely have under 100 HP. This means that if Golbez decides to use Drain or an MT level-2 elemental spell (i.e. Thundara) before you get a chance to heal her, then she will die, and you'll have to try reviving her again. He'll most likely kill her again though, which complicates matters. If you had Kain use Jump at the right time during the fight where Golbez killed your group with his Shadow Dragon, Kain will be alive during this fight. He's not really mandatory, though, so it doesn't really matter. The only hope you have of bringing Rosa back and healing her to full HP, is to get a favorable start, in that Golbez doesn't immediately use a level-2 elemental spell on your group. This could take a very long time, though, and I know it's annoying, but there isn't really an easier way. You could also try having Cecil attack Golbez if he has the Flame Sword on, and hope Golbez is weak to that element. If he is, he'll do Barrier Change, and not do the MT level-2 elemental spells, allowing you to bring Rosa back and heal her to full health in time before Golbez attacks again. If you're having too much trouble with bringing Rosa back, just win the fight with Cecil and Rydia. Have Rydia use Bio if you don't want to exploit Golbez's elemental weakness, as it is a non-elemental attack, and ignores his elemental weakness. It will take awhile like this, but this is the safest method. Just have Cecil heal the group with an ST Cura (MT is a bad idea, due to his marginal Magic Power, and also the fact that Rydia will be taking the most damage by far, due to Cecil's high HP), and keep using Bio with Rydia and you'll win. Golbez uses Barrier Change everytime you hit him with an elemental attack that exploits his weakness. For example, if he was weak to Fire, and you hit him with Cecil's Flame Sword, or if you used Fire or Fira with Rydia (or even summoned Ifrit), he would use Barrier Change, and change his elemental weakness to a different element. Sometimes, he changes his weakness to the same weakness he had before, but this isn't usually the case. To find out which element Golbez is weak to, have Cecil use Libra. If you choose to do the fight with Rosa, Cecil, and Rydia, have Rydia use summons (hit him with the summons of the element he is weak to, of course), have Rosa use an MT Shell on the group, and then have her keep the group healed with Cura. If you keep healed, you should win. After the battle, Rydia explains what happened to her, and why she has gotten older. She also explains that she can't use White Magic anymore, but her Black Magic and summoning skills now excel. She joins your group, as well. Nice! Golbez takes the crystal and disappears just as the group gets done talking. The group then appears in the throne room, and apologizes to King Giott. Giott says that Golbez has stored all the crystals in the Tower of Babil, and that if you go there now while he's after the last of the Dark Crystals, you can get all of them. Once the scene ends and you regain control, you get the Draw Attacks Augment. First thing's first. Let's heal up. We can do so for free. Start by heading to 1F (the main room of the castle) and taking the left staircase. Once you do, you'll arrive in the Inn. Take the northeastern staircase and you'll reach B1. In B1, go east, past the door leading to the infirmary, and then enter the open area you come to, where you should see a dwarf standing guard by a wall. Talk to him, and he'll open the door for you, since you have King Giott's permission. Go through the door and you'll reach B2. Once in B2, go down the staircase in the southwestern corner of the room, and you'll reach the Dwarven Base. In here, head to the northwest corner of the room and you'll see a lone pot behind a dwarf. Examine this pot to fully restore your HP/MP, and revive any dead party members. Nice! With that done, it's time to buy some equipment, as well as some items. Start by heading over to the Inn. Go to the easternmost dwarf behind the counter there, which is where you can buy items. It's a pretty safe bet that you've got at _LEAST_ 85,000 gil at this point, so I recommend buying 30 Hi-Potions, 30 Phoenix Downs, 10 Cottages, 10 Remedies, and anything else you may need there. The rest of the items aren't necessary, but they can't hurt, either. Once you've stocked up on items, head back to 1F and take the eastern staircase to reach the Weapons and Armor Shop. Head over to the Weapon Shop and buy a Dwarven Axe, and give it to Cecil. Buy some Blinding Arrows for Rosa, as well. Equip what you just bought, and then head to the Armor Shop. Buy a Flame Shield for Kain, and a Flame Mail for Kain, as well. Finally, buy two Rune Armlets for Rosa and Yang. Equip what you just bought. It's time to loot this castle of its treasures. Head back to 1F, and take the western staircase. Once at the Inn, take the western staircase here as well, and then you will arrive in the west tower. Once there, go up the stairs in the center of the room to reach 2F. Here, you'll see a multitude of pots scattered across the bottom part of the room. Get behind them, then examine them until you find a Bacchu's Wine in one of them. Once you get that, head upstairs to 3F. This is a tricky room that features a maze with several small rooms, with a total of four chests scattered throughout the maze. The chests contain the following: Hi-Potion, Elixir, Black Belt Gi, and Ether. It's hard for me to explain this maze, unfortunately, so just take your time and you'll find your way. Once you get the items, give the Black Belt Gi to Yang. Make your way back to 1F of the west tower, then exit through the southern exit and you'll arrive outside. Out here, you'll be opposite the east tower, so head over there. Once inside the east tower, open the chest by the stairs along the northern portion of the room to get a Dwarven Axe. Give this one to Kain. Now, head on up the stairs to reach 2F. Once there, head over to the southern part of the room, and go under the pots near the stairs. It's hard to see the path, but it's there. Once you go under them, examine the pots until you find a Bacchu's Wine in one of them. With that, head up the stairs to reach 3F. Another one of the dreaded maze rooms... Ugh. >_< Navigate through the maze and open the four chests to get an Elixir, an Ether, a Power Ring, and a Silver Hourglass. The Power Ring is inferior to the Rune Armlet, so just sell it later. Now, exit this room and head over to the Weapon and Armor Shop again. Once there, sell off all your old equipment. You've got plenty of it at this point. Once you're done with that, look between the Weapon and Armor Shop and you'll notice a door. If you go inside, you'll arrive in the Lali-ho Pub, which only has one dwarf there, and a drunk one at that. If you examine the southeastern corner of the room, however, you'll find a secret passage that will take you to what is known as the Developer's Room. In this room, you will be able to obtain the Reach Augment. Please refer to the Augments section of the FAQ to see how to get it. Whether or not you get it, your next business should be to head over to the Inn, and then take the northeastern staircase. Back in this familiar room, go all the way to the eastern end of the room and examine the pots to get a couple of Gysahl Greens. If you want to, you can go west from here and examine the altar by the two dwarves, and then offer some Gysahl Greens. This will bring a Fat Chocobo down. This guy allows you to use Whyt, as well as the stuff that whatever the "Way" guy's name has given you (I'll just call him Namingway, since it is his first name in the game) throughout the course of the game. One more thing left to do here, which is go to the Dwarven Base. In the room before it, though, open the three chests at the eastern end of the room (use the map) to obtain three Cottages. When you reach the Dwarven Base, exit via the doorway on the southwestern side of the room. Underworld ---------- First off, save your game. Then head west and north. It's a long walk, but you will eventually reach the Tower of Babil. Rest/save by it, and enter it. Tower of Babil -------------- Note that you'll run into Flamehounds on this floor. If you run into more than one, run away immediately, or you risk dying. Anyway, explore the eastern side of this room and open the chest along the northern portion of the east side to get an Ether. Then, examine the west side of the room and open the two chests to get a Hi-Potion as well as an Emergency Exit. After that, exit through the northern door. In the next area, follow the path and open the chest to get a Green Beret. This is inferior to the Gold Hairpins Rosa and Rydia possess, so don't bother equipping it on them. Instead, put it on Yang. Now, continue onward and follow the path. Out of the three doors in this room (not counting the one you used to enter this room), go through the bottom one first. Inside, you'll see a chest. Open it to get an Icebrand. You'll have to fight for it, though. It's an easy enough fight. Once you get it, equip it on Cecil immediately, then leave the room and head through the northeastern door. In here is another chest, which you should open. As you've probably already guessed, you've got to fight for the Ice Lance, as well. The same enemy that guarded the Icebrand is guarding the Ice Lance. Once defeated, give Kain the Ice Lance. Also, if you haven't already, give Yang some Ice Claws, and Rosa some Ice Arrows. They'll help for the rest of this. At any rate, exit this room once you equip Kain, then go through the only door you haven't been through yet in this room. You'll reach a new area of the tower. In that area, open the nearby chest to get some Cat Claws. Give them to Yang, then go north, east and then follow the path on the branch and then open the chest at the end to get a Hi- Potion. Next, open the final chest in this room, located at the south-central portion of the room, to get a Phoenix Down. With that, you've probably noticed by now that there are two doors to take, aside from the one you used to get in here. Take the easternmost one. When you reach B10, go south and open the chest to get a Killer Bow. Give this to Rosa, then open the one to the east to get an Antarctic Wind. After that, exit this room. Back in the previous room, take the door to the west of you, and you'll reach B10 again, except in a different portion of it. Head west and enter the door you come across. Inside, rest/save at the Save Point, then exit the room. Now, head north, then all the way east and enter the door you come to, ignoring the split to the south. Inside, open the chest to get an Ice Shield. Defeat the enemies guarding it, and it's yours. Give it to Cecil after the fight. Now, exit the room and go south and take the split I told you to ignore earlier. Enter the first door you come across, and inside, open the chest to get an Ice Armor. As always, beat the enemies guarding it to get it. Give it to Cecil once you win it, then exit the room. The door to the east of you is empty, so ignore it and backtrack to the door you got the Ice Shield in. From there, head west, north, and all the way west, and enter the door you come across to reach B9. In B9, go south and then north and open the chest to get an Arctic Wind. After getting that, head all the way south, and then east at the split. Ignore the northern route for now, as the door up there is locked. Continue east, then go north at the split. Halfway up the path, you'll see a branch to the east. Follow it to a chest containing a Hi-Potion. Now, get back on the northern path, then enter the door at the end. In B8, simply go west and through the nearby door to reach B7. Once at B7, go south and east, and then through the door into a small room with a Save Point. Rest/save here, and then exit this room. Back in B7, go north, west, and then all the way south, opening the chest you come to at the end of the path to get a Dry Ether. After that, go east and open the door at the end to reach B6. Once there, go south, then west at the split. Go north a bit and a short cutscene will commence, as Rubicante, the last of Golbez's Four Fiends, tells Dr. Lugae that the ninjas of Eblan Castle have already fallen. Rubicante then leaves the protection of the tower in the hands of the doctor, as he disappears. Rydia comments that Dr. Lugae is weird, and then he notices you. Your target is Barnabas, not the Doctor. Remember that. Have Kain attack or Jump, have Cecil attack, have Rosa cast an MT Protect on the group, have Yang attack or use Focus three times then attack, and finally, have Rydia summon Ramuh. If you have Cry, use it to make this fight even quicker. Once you destroy Barnabas, the Doctor gets pissed and then takes control of Barnabas himself. Now we have to fight the Doctor inside Barnabas. This is also pretty easy. Do the same thing you did for the previous fight, except have Rosa heal the group when needed. Barnabas-Z has a very potent ST physical attack that deals upwards of 1000 or more damage, so revive the person who dies from that, or if they survive it, quickly use an ST Cura or Curaga on that party member to get them back into top shape. Other than that, though, nothing too difficult about this fight. At the end of the fight, he will press a button inside Barnabas, which will cause him to self- destruct, killing the party member the explosion hits. Note that you don't even have to fight Balnab-Z if you kill both the Doctor AND Barnabas at the start of the fight. This is possible by summoning Ramuh. Once that part of the fight is over, the real fight begins. You have to fight the Doctor's true form, Dr. Lugae, a skeleton-like creature. This is a very difficult fight, as at the start of the battle, Lugae uses an attack called Reversal Gas on all of your party members, which makes healing items and abilities (like Hi- Potion and Cura) damage you, and makes damaging attacks and abilities heal you. Luckily, this applies to Lugae, as well, so just use two Elixirs on him, assuming you have two to spare, and you will win. You can only do this while Reversal Gas is in effect. If you don't have two Elixirs, just use an Elixir and an X-Potion. After the fight, Lugae will die and drop Lugae's Key, which we will need to use in order to get into the room with the Super Cannon, and save the dwarves. Let's hurry back to B9. Once at B9, head over to the door I told you was locked earlier. Before unlocking, it, however, remove Yang of all of his equipment, and also, give him two of your worst Augments that you haven't used yet. You'll definitely want to get Yang's Augments later on in the game, and this is your last chance. Once you've removed Yang of his equipment as well as given him two Augments, unlock the door using Lugae's Key. Once inside the room with the Super Cannon, the three monsters operating it will attack you. They are very easy. Once they are defeated, they'll quickly rush over to the cannon controls before they die, and they will cause the cannon to be unstoppable. Yang says that he will stay there and stop the cannon, and he kicks your group out of the room and closes the door. As Yang screams in agony and light flashes from the room, we must assume Yang is dead. He was a good party member, too... ;_; Once you regain control, head all the way back to the entrance of this tower. You have to walk, but oh well, that's life. Once you reach the entrance of the tower, a cutscene commences as Golbez collapses the bridge out from under you! In a very fortunate coincidence, Cid is waiting below you with the Enterprise, and the group lands there instead of falling down and dying. The group tells Cid about what happened to Yang, then the Enterprise gets followed by the Red Wings -- modified even more than before. Cid tells Cecil to take the controls, as he attempts to seal off the entrance to the Underworld with a bomb, killing himself in the process. First Yang, now Cid. Oh well, Cid wasn't all that useful as a party member, anyway. Eventually, you'll reach the upper world again, onboard the Enterprise. World Map --------- Fly to Baron Castle. Land there, then enter. Save before entering, though. Baron Castle ------------ Head to 1F, take the eastern staircase, and from there, make your way outside to the area of the east tower. Once there, you should see two people dressed in blue standing around by the gate leading to the east tower. Speak to one of them, and a cutscene will commence, as a hook is attached to the Enterprise. This hook will allow you to pick up your Hovercraft that you got from Damcyan in the beginning of the game. Nice! With that, you'll appear back on the World Map, on your airship. World Map --------- Look at the touch screen map to see where your Hovercraft is (it should still be by Mount Hobs, if you're too lazy to look at the map). When you find it, fly over to the location where it's at, and then fly over it and press A to pick it up. After that, fly all the way to the southwesternmost continent on the map. Once there, press A to drop the Hovercraft to the ground (drop it near Eblan Castle). Then, land the Enterprise in that same area. Afterward, board the Hovercraft and ride the rocks to a small cave. Land by the cave, rest/save your game, and then enter it. Cave of Eblan ------------- Upon arriving, head directly east and through the secret passage in the wall. Open the chest you come to and you'll get a Shuriken. After getting that, go east through another secret passage, and get the Remedy from the chest there. Now, go back west and when you reach the chest that contained the Shuriken, go down the stairs and into the water, where you should go east through yet another secret passage. Follow the path it leads you to, and go up the stairs you come to. From there, go all the way south, ignoring the bridge for now, and open the chest to get a Vampire Fang. Now that you have that, go back to the bridge I told you to ignore earlier, and then cross it. From there, simply follow the path south and west, then go down the stairs at the end to reach a small town in the cave called Eblan. Eblan ----- There isn't much to do in Eblan. Like in any town, there is an Inn, and a Weapon and Armor Shop. In addition, there is also a facility for the sick. Go into the first building, which is the Inn. Rest here if you need to, though the main reason I sent you here was to examine the dresser by the easternmost bed out of the top set of beds to get a Ninja Sutra. With that, leave the Inn. Head over to the far western room, which is the facility for the sick. Inside, examine the pot near the entrance, and the fireplace on the far western side of the room to get two Potions. With that, exit this building. Ignore the Weapon and Armor Shop, as it sells nothing worthwhile. Head through the entrance just to the east of the facility to reach Cave of Eblan again. Cave of Eblan ------------- Back in this place again, go north and east to a chest containing an Ether. After getting that, follow the path north and when you see a chest, go south through a secret passage. Once you emerge from said secret passage, open the chest to get a Hi-Potion. Now, go back through the secret passage and open the chest you ignored so you could take the secret passage, and you'll get a Tent. With that, head through the nearby exit to the reach the next of the cave. In this area, go all the way east, then north and up the stairs, opening the chest to get a Bomb Core. Now, go south and through the exit to reach a floor you've already visited, but a different location that was previously unreachable. In this familiar area, open the nearby chests to get two Hi-Potions as well as a Cottage. Once you get that, hug the wall east of the two chests and you'll find a secret passage, which you should go through and follow the path to two chests containing Elixirs. Go back through the secret passage, and then follow the path all the way south, then go west onto the small branch there, opening the chest to get a Spider Silk. Now, go east, and then follow the path to three chests, opening them to get two Phoenix Down items, as well as a Silver Hourglass. Go north and exit to the next area. In this area, go west and open the chest to get a Shuriken, then go north and open the next chest to get a Gold Needle. Now, go through the door to the east of you, and you'll appear in a room with a Save Point. Go east from the Save Point, and go through the secret passage to reach a chest containing a Blood Sword. You won't get it without a fight, though. After defeating the enemies and obtaining the Blood Sword, don't bother equipping it, as it's not all that useful, lowering a lot of your stats considerably. It casts Drain, but that's nothing special. Exit this room and head north, and you'll encounter Edge, the ninja prince of Eblan, who is fighting Rubicante, the last of the Four Fiends. Rubicante easily defeats Edge by using Inferno, then he disappears, telling Edge to become stronger. Your group approaches Edge, and after Rydia starts crying when Edge says he'll fight Rubicante alone, he joins your group. Once you regain control, go through the nearby exit to reach the Tower of Babil. Tower of Babil -------------- Once inside, go north and Edge will move into the tower, along with the rest of your group. Open the nearby chest to get a Unicorn Horn. Now, follow the path and you'll come to a door. Ignore it for now, and continue east and north to a chest containing a Silver Hourglass. Now, go back to the door and go through it, and you'll reach the next floor of the tower. Once here, go east, then follow the long path to the north and west, and you'll eventually come across a split to the south. Take said split and open the chest at the end of the path to get an Ogrekiller. You have to fight for it. After the battle, I suggest not giving it to anyone, because although it does tremendously well against Ogre enemies, it lowers your stats significantly, as well. At any rate, go back to the north, then follow the western path until you reach a door, which you should enter. Once you reach B3, go east, past the door, then follow the path until you reach a chest containing a Lilith's Kiss. Once you get that, go back to the door and go through it to reach B4. Once at B4, go east and then follow the long path and then go south to reach a chest, which contains an Ashura weapon. Give to Edge, then go through the nearby door to reach the next floor. In this floor, simply follow the long path to the east, ignoring the southward split, as it leads to nothing. You'll come to two doors. Take the left one first, and rest/save inside. Afterward, exit and take the eastern door to reach the last area of B4, the part you haven't mapped out yet. Go through the door to reach B5. Once there, go south, west, and then north, ignoring the northern split for now. Open the chest you come to to get 10000 gil. Nice. Go back to the northern split I said to ignore earlier, and a cutscene will commence, as Edge's parents tell Edge to come to hell with them. You are then attacked by them. It's not a boss battle -- all you have to do is sit there, and eventually, they will come to their senses, and the fight will end. Once the fight ends, Edge will be very distressed at his parents' death, as well as their turning into monsters. Just then, Rubicante will appear, stating that it was Lugae who turned Edge's parents into monsters, and he played no part. Edge gets pissed, and then the fight with Rubicant commences, after he fully restores your group's HP/MP to full. Edge also learns a couple new Ninjutsu abilities due to his rage. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Rubicante | | HP: 30000 | | Strengths: (if cloak is opened) Fire | | Absorbs: (if cloak is closed) Fire, Ice, Water | | Weaknesses: (if cloak is opened) Ice, Water | | Experience Points: 120000 | | Gil: 1300 gil | | Location: Tower of Babil | ------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: DO NOT come into this fight with the Icebrand and Ice Lance equipped on Cecil and Kain. If you have them equipped on them, remove them and equip something else (preferably Dwarven Axes) on them by going to Items, then scrolling to the top of the list above the items. Strategy: Rubicante's elemental weaknesses change, depending on whether or not his cloak is opened or closed. If his cloak is opened, he will use Inferno, which, as we already saw with Edge, kicks ass. Inferno is a very powerful MT attack that deals significant damage to your group. The only way to counter this is to get Rubicante back in his cloak. To do this, simply use Steal on him everytime his cloak opens, and he will immediately close it, meaning he can't do Inferno. However, when Rubicante's cloak is closed, he absorbs Fire, Ice, and Water, negating the possibility for us to deal any significant elemental damage. So basically, just have Edge on standby at all times, and Steal everytime Rubicante's cloak is opened. Have Cecil attack, have Kain use Jump, have Rosa use Shell on the group, and have Rydia hit Rubicante with Bio or Quake, since those are the only spells that will hurt him, with Bio being a non-elemental attack, and Quake being an Earth-elemental attack. You could also have Rydia summon Titan, or have her summon Dragon. Be sure to use Slow or Spider's Silk on Rubicante, as well. Cry also comes in handy if you have it. A lot of the time when Rubicante is attacked, he'll counter with an MT Fira spell. It's weak, though, especially with Shell on your group. He also sometimes counters with Blizzara when his cloak is closed, using it on himself to heal him. That too, is nothing to worry about. Repeat this process and keep healed via MT Cura with Rosa until you win. After the battle, some ninjas from Eblan show up to assist in the fight against Rubicante. Edge explains that the fight is already over, and after a bit of chatting, Edge decides to go along with you for good, since he now has the knowledge of who Golbez is, and what he plans to do. Once you regain control, go through the nearby door to the Crystal Room. Inside, approach the crystals and as you do, you'll fall down a trap back down to a lower level of the tower. Once here, exit through the southwestern door, then you'll be in a previously visited floor of the tower. Once here, follow the path north and open the door and go through it to reach B8. Once at B8, go all the way south, then follow the path east, ignoring the left path for now. Open the chest at the end of the path to get a Hi-Potion. Now, backtrack to where the path breaks off into a three-way fork, and then take the left path, entering the door at the end. In this room, you'll come across a large airship, which Edge aptly dubs the Falcon. He'll fire up the engines, and then you'll be out of the tower. Underworld ---------- Since the Falcon cannot fly over lava, fly to Dwarven Castle, then land there and enter it. Dwarven Castle -------------- Head over to the throne room and speak with King Giott. He'll tell you that Golbez is at the Sealed Cave trying to obtain the last Crystal, and he thinks that Golbez will probably succeed, unless you hurry and stop him. King Giott tells his daughter Luca to give him her pendant. Once she gives it to him, he gives you Luca's Necklace, which is used to open the Sealed Cave. Before you leave, head over to the infirmary located on B1, and inside, you'll find Cid resting in bed. He wakes up, and then rushes off to make it so that the Falcon can fly over magma. He collapses after working, and then you can receive up to three Augments, depending on whether or not you gave Cid any Augments during the time he was in your party. You get Analyze by default, you get Upgrade if you gave him one Augment, and you get Adrenaline if you gave him two or more Augments. Once you regain control, exit the castle. Underworld ---------- Board the Falcon, and then go ahead and map out the entire Underworld, as it will make navigating it much easier. Once you do so, fly southwest of Dwarven Castle to reach a small continent with a town on it. Land here, save your game, and then enter. Tomra ----- First off, let's collect the hidden items lying around town. Start by going to the west side of the Item Shop. Once there, you should notice a gap in the lining of the building. In the midst of that gap is a Bomb Core, so get it. Now, go to the building in the northwest corner of the town, and enter it. Inside, open the four chests to get Zeus's Wrath, a Bomb Fragment, a Dry Ether, and 2000 gil. Examine the pot in the southeast corner of the room to get an Antarctic Wind. Then, examine the nearby wooden boxes to get a Bestiary item. Exit the building now, and head over to the Inn. Once inside, examine the easternmost dresser by the beds to the east of the entrance to get a Gaia Drum. Now, exit the Inn. Enter the Weapon Shop. Inside, sell off all of your old equipment -- you will make a ton of money, money that you really need. Buy another Ashura for Edge, and buy a Chain Whip for Rydia. I don't recommend buying Ogrekiller. In spite of their how high Attack Power, and their effectiveness against Ogres, they significantly lower your other stats. Head over to the Armor Shop buy going through a secret passage along the east side of the room that connects the Armor Shop to the Weapon Shop. In the Armor Shop, buy Edge a Diamond Armlet, then buy Cecil and Kain both the whole set of diamond equipment. With this, it's time to equip your group, sell their old junk, and exit town. Underworld ---------- Save your game and board the Falcon. Although we're supposed to be heading to the Sealed Cave storywise, there are a couple of side quests you can do right now to gain some new summons for Rydia, in addition to some other things. I strongly suggest doing those before venturing onward to the Sealed Cave. Not only is it worthwhile because of the items and summons, you'll also gain quite a few levels for doing these side quests, making the Sealed Cave that much easier. For explanation on these side quests, please view the Side Quests section of this FAQ. Once you've done the side quests, and are ready to venture onward to the Sealed Cave, board the Falcon and fly northwest of Tomra, landing by the cave there. Rest/save, and then enter. Sealed Cave ----------- Approach the door in front of you and use Luca's Necklace on it to unlock it. Go through it to reach B1. Start by following the path south and climbing down the rope you come across to reach a lower level of the area. Down there, go west and south and open the chest to get a Bestiary. Now, examine the nearby door and you'll have to fight what is known as a Trap Door. If you do not have Reflect with Rosa (level 40), then you'll likely have difficulty. Trap Doors start off by using Target on a party member, which is just a fancy way of saying Libra. If you have Draw Attacks on Cecil, then he'll be the target of the Trap Door. It's better if you have Draw Attacks, since you can know in advance who the target will be. You should cast Reflect on the party member that the Trap Door targets. This will cause the Trap Door's special attack, Ninth Dimension, to bounce off the party member who is Reflected, and the attack will hit the Trap Door, casusing Instant Death. Yes, if you were wondering, Ninth Dimension is an ID attack, which is why I strongly suggest you have Reflect and Draw Attacks (especially the former). If you don't have Reflect, you're probably gonna need to level up until you do. The Trap Doors have something else up their sleeve other than the Target/Ninth Dimension combo. If you fail to kill them fast enough, they will turn into another enemy, enemies from this particular dungeon. This is especially bad if you get something like a Yellow Dragon. This is also another reason you need Reflect. At any rate, once you defeat the Trap Door, go inside and open the two chests to get an Ether and a Kotetsu. Give the Kotetsu to Edge and exit the room. Go north, then all the way west and you'll come across another rope. Climb it up, then examine the door and fight the Trap Door, then go inside. Open the two chests to get a Hi-Potion and an Ether. Then, examine the two top doors and kill the Trap Doors on each of them. The rooms themselves are empty, I just made you do this for the EXP. I'm a bastard, I know. :) Now, exit through the southeastern door to reach B2. Start by going down the southwestern rope and opening the chest to get a Bestiary. Go back up the rope and then go east and open the chest to get a Phoenix Down. Go north and you'll come across a series of doors (all Trap Doors). Two of them are empty, but I suggest fighting all of them, anyway, just for the sake of experience. Once you defeat all the Trap Doors, from right to left, enter all of the rooms. The chests are as follows (from left to right): Lustrous Sword (give to Cecil), Light Curtain, Fuma Shuriken, Elixir, Black Cowl, and Kotetsu (if you got both Kiku-ichimonji's from the Sylph Cave and the Passage of the Eidolons, don't bother equipping the Kotetsu). Once you loot all the chests, rest/save at the room with the Save Point (just east of the leftmost door), then exit and head all the way south from the leftmost door out of the series of six doors at the top. By heading south, you will come across a lone door isolated from the rest at the top. Beat the Trap Door and enter it. In this room, follow the path to the opposite side of the room, grabbing the Ether in the chest along the way. Go through the exit leading out once you reach it. In the room you come to, go east and open the two chests to get a Hi-Potion and a Phoenix Down. After you get that, go left and beat the Trap Door. It leads to an empty room, but additional experience never hurts. Now head south and through the exit to reach the next area. In this area, go south, then follow the long path to the east, ignoring the southern path for now. Open the chest at the end to get a Silent Bell. Once you get that, go back west, then south, and then east, and you will come across a door. Beat the Trap Door, but don't go inside, since the room is empty. Yes, it was just for more experience. Now, go to the top of the pit overlooking the center of the room, and then climb down the rope. In the lower area you come to, go east, fight the Trap Door, and then enter the room. Open the two chests to get a Dry Ether and an X-Potion. With that, exit this room. Back in the previous room, go all the way west, then north and go through the exit to reach the next area. In this area, go south and rest/save at the Save Point, then continue south and exit this room. In the area you come to, follow the path south and east, then go north when you come across a split at the center of the path. At the back of the circular path is an exit leading to another area. Take said exit to reach the final room of the cave. In here, make your way to the northern end of the room, but be sure to map out the whole area, as you get a Megalixir for doing so. Beat the Trap Door at the end, then go through the door to reach the Crystal Room. Inside there, grab the last Dark Crystal, then before you do anything, have Rosa use Curaga on the group to restore their HP. In addition, be sure to recover Rosa and Rydia's MP with Ethers if they are running low. Once you are healed, exit this room. Outside, an earthquake will occur, as you are attacked by Demon Wall. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Demon Wall | | HP: 99999 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: N/A | | Weaknesses: N/A | | Experience Points: 399996 | | Gil: N/A | | Location: Sealed Cave | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This is more of a speed battle than it is a difficult battle. Demon Wall will gradually move towards your group throughout the fight, and when he gets close enough, he'll crush you, giving you a game over. Not cool. So what to do? Cast Slow on him. The next thing you need to do (after casting Slow) is use Cry on him. With his Defense lowered, you stand a much better chance at finishing him off before he crushes you. With Slow and Cry in effect, it's time to Berserk Cecil and Kain. Don't Berserk Edge yet, but instead, have him Throw all of the equipment that you've got unequipped. Sure, you could sell this equipment later on for some money, but we'll have plenty of it, trust me. Once Edge throws whatever he can, save for the Fuma Shuriken. You should Berserk him as well (also, be sure to cast Haste on Cecil, Kain, and Rydia while Edge is busy using Throw). With Cecil, Kain, and Edge Berserked, you stand a great chance of winning. Be sure to cast Haste on Edge, as well. Finally, if you're wondering what to do with Rydia, summon Leviathan (assuming you beat him already) or Dragon. This fight shouldn't take that long, although he may be able to crush one of your party members before you finish him off. After the battle, you'll regain control. Unfortunately, you can't use Teleport to get out of here, which means we have to walk all the way back to the entrance. No sense in complaining, let's get right to it. Just before you reach the entrance of the cave, however, be sure to remove Kain of all of his equipment. Once you reach the entrance, Golbez will take control of Kain again. Kain says he isn't under Golbez's control, but then he quickly knocks Cecil down, and takes the Dark Crystal. Once Kain leaves your group, you'll regain control. Exit this cave. Underworld ---------- Fly back to the Castle of Dwarves, land there, save your game, and enter it. Castle of Dwarves ----------------- Head over to the throne room and speak with King Giott. He'll tell you that now that Golbez has all the crystals, your only hope of stopping him is to use the Blue Whale of Mysidia. Cid overhears the conversation, and fixes up the Falcon so that it can get back to the surface, thus allowing us to go to Mysidia. As he is fixing the ship, Cid will collapse due to overexerting himself, yet again. He'll appear back in the infirmary, where he tells you he can't be of anymore use at this point. You then regain control, so restock on whatever items you need, then when you're ready, leave the castle. Underworld ---------- Board the Falcon, and fly to the extreme southeastern portion of the map. You should see a town there, located to the southwest of the mountains. Land there and enter. Kokkol's Forge -------------- We won't be doing much here now, but this place will be important later, so remember it. Enter the building, and then examine the wooden crates to the left to get a Remedy. You can talk to the dwarf wandering around here by the fireplace if you want. Upstairs is Kokkol himself, but he doesn't want to forge you anything, unfortunately. We'll come back later. For now, leave. Underworld ---------- It's time to go back to the upper world! Board the Falcon and fly to the extreme northeast corner of the area. Fly your ship above the hole, then press B to go through the mountain and back to the upper world. World Map --------- Fly to Mysidia (it's on the southeastern continent, in case you forgot). Land and enter. Mysidia ------- Immediately upon arrival, the elder along with a Black Mage and a White Mage will greet you. The elder will say that he has been waiting for you, and to come with him to the Tower of Prayer. After some praying, the prayer is answered, as the Lunar ship known as the Lunar Whale comes out of the ocean in front of you. Some more talking commences after that, but it's not long. You will appear on the World Map after the cutscene ends. The first thing you should do is board the Falcon. We'll get on the Blue Whale in just a minute. There are still some things to do in the upper world before we venture onward to the moon. Starting off, fly to Mist. Land there, then enter. Mist ---- Enter the house in the northwestern corner of town. Once inside, examine the sparkling object nearby to get the MP+50% Augment. Although you could give this to the upcoming party member that you'll temporarily get, in order to gain a rather good Augment later on, I strongly suggest giving it to Rydia. I mean really, would you want to waste such a valuable Augment on a party member that's only temporary? At any rate, when you're ready, exit town and board the Falcon again. This time, fly to the continent with Eblan Cave and Eblan. Land there, board the Enterprise, pick up the Hovercraft, and ride the rocks to Eblan Cave, then enter. Eblan Cave ---------- Make your way back to the room where Edge and Rubicante fight. In the exact area they were fighting, you'll see a sparkling object on the ground. Examine it to get the Inferno Augment. With that, it's time to exit (use Teleport). Ride the Hovercraft back to the mainland, get off, board the Enterprise, pick the Hovercraft up, and then fly to Mythril, which is located in between Fabul Castle and Mount Ordeals. Drop the Hovercraft there, then land the Enterprise. Board the Hovercraft, and then ride the nearby rocks to a cave called Adamant Isle Grotto. Adamant Isle Grotto ------------------- Go up the stairs, and talk to the very tiny person atop the pedestal. He'll explicitly state that he doesn't wish to speak with you unless you have a tail you can give him. If you went to The Feymarch already, you should have a Rat's Tail. Give it to him, and he'll give you some Adamantite. We'll need this for Kokkol to forge us a new weapon. Nice. Exit, ride the Hovercraft back to the continent with Mythril, then board the Enterprise, pick up the Hovercraft, and fly back to the continent with Eblan on it (should be where you left the Falcon), and board the Falcon. After that, fly back to the continent with the Underworld on it (if you forgot, it's the one with Agart). Go back into the Underworld and fly back to Kokkol's Forge. Land there and enter. Kokkol's Forge -------------- Go upstairs and give Kokkol the Adamantite ore you got from the tiny guy in Adamant Isle Grotto. He'll take your Mythgraven Blade and tell you that he'll forge you a sword with it. He won't give it to you now, since he needs some time to perfect it, so leave. Board the Falcon, and then go back to the upper world. Once there, fly to Troia (on the northwestern continent). Land near it, and then enter the town. Troia ----- When you arrive here, head over the Pub. Once inside, talk to the person that is sitting at the table near the door. He'll offer you a Member's Writ for a whopping 100000 gil! You should have more than enough gil to buy this by now, so do so. Once you get it, talk to the person in the northeastern corner, and he will give you access to a downstairs area that's reserved for members only. Once here, talk to the guy behind the counter to watch the show. Once the show is over, go through the now open door the dancers came through. Follow the path to the dressing room. Inside is a dancer (pervert... XD) as well as a sparkling object. Examine it to get the Gil Farmer Augment. With that, exit Troia. Back on the World Map, board the Falcon and make your way back to the upper world, then fly near Mysidia and land the Falcon. Board the Lunar Whale. Once inside, examine the crystal to the north, and you're off to the moon. Note that there are capsules at the southern end of the Lunar Whale that you can rest at. This will fully recover your HP/MP. To exit the Lunar Whale once you land, just use the stairs located on either side of the vessel. Finally, to the south of the capsules is a grated walkway leading to a Fat Chocobo that doesn't require Gysahl Greens to summon. You can utilize the features of this Fat Chocobo at any time. Moon ---- When you get on the moon, explore the entire map. With the Lunar Whale, you can explore two sides of the map at once, if you are flying at a close enough angle to the wall (there aren't really walls when you're flying around, but what else can you call the edges of the touch screen map?). With that done, explore the map, and when you notice a circular area near the south-middle part of the map, land the Lunar Whale there, then enter the cave. Hummingway Abode ---------------- Not much to do here. Talking to the Hummingway's just nets you some really irritating sounds. You can buy some items in here, and you can also get an Augment. Let's get the Augment first. Head to the northeastern corner of the area and examine the sparkling object to get the Level Lust Augment. Once you get that, stock up on any items you may need, then leave. I wouldn't suggest wasting your money on Dry Ethers or Elixirs, though. If you're wondering about the location of the shop, just keep talking to the various Hummingways, and it won't take you long to find it. Moon ---- Get back into the Lunar Whale, and fly to the north. You should see a crystal structure in the midst of the hilly terrain. Our main goal is that crystal monument. Unfortunately, we can't just directly enter it. Fly to the left of crystal monument, and land atop the hilly area when you see some stairs leading down to a cave. Enter this cave. Lunar Tunnel - West ------------------- Go northeast and you'll come to a chest containing a Golden Apple. You'll have to fight some enemies to get it, though. They are a bit difficult to defeat, given their immensely powerful physical attacks. Try and beat them as fast as you can. Dragon works well with Rydia, and Edge should Throw Shurikens or anything else you may have lying around. Rosa can use an MT Curaja, and Cecil can just attack. Keep Cecil's HP up if he has Draw Attacks, to ensure that he stays alive, thus preventing anyone else from dying. Note that the physical attacks of these creatures can cause Paralysis, which isn't good. If Rydia or Rosa get Paralyzed, you can still win the fight with Edge and Cecil. Once you defeat the enemies, keep going and once you reach the exit, go east, ignoring it for a moment. Open the two chests to get a Lunar Curtain and a Stardust. Now, go through the exit you were told to ignore earlier. You'll be back on the moon. Head east, then south at the split, and then east again to reach another cave. Save and enter. Lunar Tunnel - East ------------------- Unlike the last Lunar Tunnel, no chests to open. Just follow the path out of the path. When you appear on the moon again, follow the path left to reach one final cave, which leads to the aforementioned crystal monument. Enter. Crystal Palace -------------- Upon arriving, go north and a cutscene will start. In this cutscene, you will be introduced to the Lunarian Fusoya. Fusoya explains to Cecil about what the one controlling Golbez, named Zemus, is planning to do. In addition, we find out something major about the plot, but I won't spoil that for you. Once the cutscene ends, Fusoya joins your party. Give him two Augments, so that you can get a great Augment later on. There is a side quest we can do now if you want, and I strongly suggest doing so. Look at the Side Quests section to see how. Whether or not you attempt the side quest, when you're ready, board the Lunar Whale and use the crystal to fly back to earth. World Map --------- Immediately upon arriving, a long cutscene occurs, as you find out you are too late -- the Giant of Babil has already been unleashed by Zemus. Just when all hope seems lost, the dwarves, the Mysidian elder, Palom, Porom, Edward, Cid, and even Yang and the Sylphs, all come from all directions and begin shooting at the Giant of Babil, hoping to slow it down. The ploy works, and you are able to fly into the giant with Cid's help. Giant's Mouth ------------- Just go north and down the stairs to the next section of the giant. Giant's Neck ------------ Another very quick area. Go south and down the stairs to reach the next section of the giant. Giant's Chest ------------- Okay, this one is slightly longer than the other two. Follow the path until you come across a bridge. Right next to the bridge is a chest containing a Fuma Shuriken. Get it and cross the bridge, then follow the long but very straight-foward path. Open the two chests you come across to get a Hi-Potion and an Ether. Further north, you'll see a split to the west and a split to the north. Take the northern split and open the chest to get some Yoichi Arrows. Cross the bridge and go left and open the chest to get a Siren. Then, go north and step on the transporter to be carried to the stomach of the creature. Giant's Stomach --------------- Go due north until you reach a chest containing a Silver Apple. With that, go back to the entrance, then go north a bit and you'll see two paths. Take the eastern one, and at the end of it, open the chest to get a Soma Drop. Go back to the south to where you first saw the two paths, and this time, take the western path. Follow it until you reach another transporter leading deeper into the creature. Step on it. Giant of Babil - Inner Passage ------------------------------ Go south, then east at the split. You should notice a small split to the north at this point, so take it, ignoring the rest of the eastern path for now. Open the chest you come to and you'll get an Elixir. Now, take the rest of the east path and then just keep going until you reach a Save Point and a Hummingway. The Hummingway sells you items, so stock up on whatever you might need. You should have plenty of gil by now, so you may as well spend it, especially considering you are nearing the end of the game. I also strongly suggest you buy 99 Shurikens; it won't cost but maybe 50 to 60,000 gil. Once you're done shopping, save, but don't rest, at the Save Point. You're about to have to face the Four Fiends again, and as a result, Rubicante will restore you. Go east and north, and step into the transporter to reach the inner stair. Giant of Babil - Inner Stair ---------------------------- Go north and a cutscene will commence, as the Four Fiends have all apparently been brought back by Zemus, in order to fight you one last time. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Elemental Archfiends | | HP: 100000 (25000 each) | | Strengths: (Scarmiglione) Darkness | | Strengths: (Cagnazzo): N/A | | Strengths: (Barbariccia) N/A | | Strengths: (Rubicante, cloak closed) N/A | | Strengths: (Rubicante, cloak opened) N/A | | Absorbs: (Scarmiglione) Poison | | Absorbs: (Cagnazzo) Water | | Absorbs: (Barbariccia) N/A | | Absorbs: (Rubicante, cloak closed) Fire, Ice, Water | | Absorbs: (Rubicante. cloak opened) Fire | | Weaknesses: (Scarmiglione) Fire, Holy | | Weaknesses: (Cagnazzo) Thunder | | Weaknesses: (Barbariccia) N/A | | Weaknesses: (Rubicante, cloak closed) N/A | | Weaknesses: (Rubicante, cloak opened) Ice, Water | | Experience Points: 100000 | | Gil: N/A | | Location: Giant of Babil | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: You've faced these guys enough to the point where you're likely very tired of them. Unfortunately, because of Zemus reviving them, we've got to deal with them one final time. First up is Scarmiglione. He isn't very hard, and you should take the time to buff up your group while fighting him, since he's the easiest of the four. Have Rosa Dualcast Shell and Protect on the group, then have Fusoya and Rosa Haste the group. In the middle of doing all of this though, be sure to cast Slow on Scarmiglione. Once your group has been buffed, have Cecil attack, have Rosa Dualcast Curaja on Scarmiglione, and have Fusoya do the same, have Rydia summon Ifrit, and have Edge Throw Shurikens. If, in the unlikely event your HP gets too low, use an MT Curaja with Rosa or Fusoya. Next up is Cagnazzo. He's actually a bit difficult, so watch out. The strategy for him is fairly simple, though. Start off by casting Slow. Then, have Cecil attack, Edge Throw Shurikens, Rydia use Thundaga, and Rosa cure the group when needed. Have Fusoya on standby at all times to use Thunadara, so that you can get rid of the water when it surges to Cagnazzo's feet. Cagnazzo can and often does counter you with Silence or Slow. Quickly use a Remedy to negate Slow, and use Echo Herbs to get rid of Silence. This can be quite annoying after awhile, so try and be careful. Next up is Barbariccia. She starts off in her normal form, but as the battle progresses, quickly transitions into her tornado form. This time around, we don't have Kain, and so we can't Jump her out of it. This means no physical attacks, including Throw, once she gets into her tornado form. Ouch. Have Cecil and Edge use all of the physical attacks that they can before she gets into her tornado form (Edge should still throw Shurikens, incase you're wondering). When Barbariccia reverts to her tornado form, she is immune to all physical attacks, as stated above. Cecil will just have to sit there, and the best Edge has going for him is his Ninjutsu ability. At any rate, start the battle off by casting Slow on her. For when she is in tornado form, have Rydia summon Bahamut, have Fusoya use Flare, and have Rosa cure the group when needed. Next up is Rubicante. Lucky for us, using Steal still causes his cloak to close, and thus we don't have to worry about dying as long as we prevent it from opening. Start it off by casting Slow on Rubicante, then have Rydia summon Titan; he'll counter with Blizzara that will heal him for around 800 HP, but it's nothing to worry about. Have Cecil attack, although be warned, he will counter with an MT Firaga, which deals around 1000 HP to all party members. Edge should Throw Shurikens, but you shouldn't do that with him every turn, as he'll also need to be on standby at times, so that he can Steal once Rubicante opens his cloak. Rosa and Fusoya should just heal. Upon winning the fight, the Elemental Archfiends finally die for good. Go back and rest/save at the Save Point in the previous room, then go back into the room where you fought the Elemental Archfiends. In there, give Fusoya two Augments if you haven't already, as this is your LAST CHANCE to do so and gain the Omnicasting Augment later on, which is VERY useful. When you're ready, go north, past where the Elemental Archfiends were, and then step on the transporter to reach the next floor. In there, you'll have to fight another boss battle, this time against the CPU of the giant. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Attack Node/CPU/Defense Node | | HP: (Attack Node) 11000 | | HP: (CPU) 22000 | | HP: (Defense Node) 11000 | | Strengths: (Attack Node) Earth | | Strengths: (CPU) N/A | | Strengths: (Defense Node) Earth | | Absorbs: (Attack Node) N/A | | Absorbs: (CPU) N/A | | Absorbs: (Defense Node) Everything but Earth | | Weaknesses: (Attack Node) N/A | | Weaknesses: (CPU) Thunder | | Weaknesses: (Defense Node) N/A | | Experience Points: 220000 | | Gil: 20000 gil | | Location: Giant of Babil | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This fight isn't actually that difficult, it's more of a luck fight than anything. You need a favorable start where the Attack Node doesn't immediately use Laser Barrage and kill your group. Once you get that, quickly have Rosa Dualcast an MT Slow and Haste on Edge. Then, quickly have Edge Throw the Knife you got from the Yang side quest, then have him Throw a Fuma Shuriken on his next turn. Throw all of this at the Attack Node. This should kill the Attack Node. Have Cecil attack it right after Edge Throws, just incase it uses Laser Barrage. If you're lucky, you can kill it with one Throw and one attack. After the Attack Node is gone, you can either kill the Defense Node, and then the CPU, or you can just kill the CPU and ignore the Defense Node. I did the former and won, but it is definitely safer to do the latter method, so do that. Just have Edge Throw the remaining Fuma Shuriken you should have, then have him Throw Shurikens and whatever else you may have in your inventory that you don't need. Have Cecil attack, have Rosa use Dispel on the CPU to get rid of Reflect, and then have Rydia use any "aga" spell on the CPU. Finally, Fusoya should use Flare on the CPU. With all this, the CPU will not last long. Finish off the Defense Node and you win. If you choose to do the former method, that is, killing the Defense Node and then the CPU, then you should know that the CPU will regenerate both the Attack Node and the Defense Node. This is why it's better just to do the latter method. Another reason this method is dangerous is because the CPU will use Global 199 when alone, which deals 9999 to a party member. He will do it to all of your party members one by one, until they're all dead. To negate this, you can come into the battle with Draw Attacks set to Cecil. Quickly revive Cecil once Global 199 kills him, and just make sure Cecil stays alive, as the CPU will keep killing him as long as he alive, because of Draw Attacks. With this ample time, you can finish off the CPU. Beware of the regeneration technique it has, though. After winning, Golbez enters the room, and Fusoya calls out to him, asking him if he remembers his true self. A cutscene regarding Golbez's past then occurs. In this, we see Cecilia and Kluya in a room, with Kluya lying down beside a baby. This baby is named Theodor. Later on, you'll gain control of Theodor as a small boy. In the room is Cecilia, who is lying on a bed. Exit the room and then the house. Outside, you can talk to the people if you want, but they mainly talk about magic, and also about Kluya. Kluya is standing in the extreme northeast corner of town near the lake. Talk to him and Theodor will ask him about the moon, but Kluya says he'll tell him when he is older and able to understand. Theodor is disappointed, and then mentions his use of magic at an early age. Kluya asks if he has mastered Cure, and when Theodor says no, Kluya dismisses him and tells him to go back to bed, since it's late. Head back into the house with Cecilia, which is the one in the northwestern corner of town. Inside, enter the bedroom, and then talk to Cecilia. She'll explain to Theodor that she is pregnant with another baby, who will be Theodor's younger brother. Theodor is happy to be an older brother, and he quickly goes to bed. Later on, as the next day arrives, Kluya dies. Theodor is then left alone with Cecilia, to look after her and the baby. Cecilia later dies, and then Theodor blames the baby, Cecil, on Cecilia and Kluya's deaths. The Lunarian Zemus uses this to trick Theodor into thinking he is Golbez. Theodor later takes Cecil and places him by a tree, then leaves him. The King of Baron later finds him. After all this, the scene cuts back to the Giant of Babil. Fusoya collapses from freeing Golbez of Zemus's grip. Shortly thereafter, as Golbez bids Cecil farewell, the brothers reunited, he goes to stop Zemus. Just after Golbez leaves, the giant begins to shake violently. Kain appears and in spite of the group thinking he's still under Golbez's control, they follow him to safety. Watch the rest of the scene onboard the Lunar Whale. When you finally regain control, examine the crystal and as you take off to the moon, Rosa and Rydia emerge from hiding and Cecil finally gives in, and they join your group again. When you regain control again, exit the Lunar Whale. Moon ---- Head back into Crystal Palace, where you first met Fusoya. Once there, check behind the altar where Fusoya was standing, and if you gave him two or more Augments during the short time he was in your group, you'll get Phoenix, Bless, and Omnicasting. Give Omnicasting to Rosa, and maybe Bless as well. You could give Phoenix to Rydia. Once you've picked up the Augments, go back through the Lunar Tunnels, and then board the Lunar Whale. We're going to pick up a few more things before heading off to the final dungeon to face Zemus. Start by heading to earth, via the crystal onboard the Lunar Whale. World Map --------- Fly to Baron Castle, land, save, and enter. Baron Castle ------------ Head to the area where the west tower is. Don't go inside the tower istelf, but instead, go through the door beside it. You'll be in a new room of the castle. In that room, take the stairs at the far eastern end of the room. You'll appear on the roof of the castle. Talk to the soldier wandering around here, and you'll get the HP+50% Augment. I suggest giving this to either Edge or Rosa. I gave it to Rosa. With that, leave and board the Falcon. Fly to the Underworld, and enter Kokkol's Forge. Talk to him to get the Excalibur. With that, head into the Passage of the Eidolons, go through that, and head into The Feymarch. When you arrive there, enter Whyt's house. Once there, talk to Whyt's mother, and she'll thank you caring for Whyt and give you the Piercing Magic Augment. Nice. With that, it's time to exit back to the underworld, then finally head back to the upper world. Once you reach the upper world again, board the Lunar Whale, and head back to the moon. Go through the Lunar Tunnels again, and then enter the Crystal Palace again. Head north of the altar where you first met Fusoya, then enter the room there. Augments | |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| This section will list all of the Augments in the game, and how to obtain them all. These Augments are listed in alphabetical order. Adrenaline How To Obtain: If you gave Cid two or more Augments during the time he was in your group, you'll obtain this after he modifies the Falcon so that it can fly across magma. Effect: When a party member's HP falls below 20%, the Attack and Magic Power of said party member is doubled. Aim How To Obtain: Rosa has this when you recruit her. Effect: An attack that has 100% Accuracy. Can be used with a Bow and Arrow. Analyze How To Obtain: Cid has this when you recruit him. You also get it by default after Cid modifies the Falcon so that it can fly across magma. Effect: Casta an MT Libra. Auto-Potion How To Obtain: Rosa gives this to you in Kaipo, while she is sick with the desert fever. Effect: Everytime the person with this on is attacked, that person uses a Potion to recover HP. Bardsong How To Obtain: Edward has this when you recruit him. You can also obtain by talking to Edward after defeating the Dark Elf. Effect: Enables you to use any of Edward's bard songs. Bless How To Obtain: After you complete the Giant of Babil, this is found in the main Crystal Palace. Effect: All party members gradually regain their MP. Bluff How To Obtain: During the time Palom and Porom are in your party, give Porom two or more Augments, or give Palom one Augment. After that, talk to the Mysidian elder after you defeat Cagnazzo. Effect: Doubles the Intelligence of the party member that uses it. It only lasts for the next spellcast, however, and after that, you have to use it again if you want double Intelligence. Brace How To Obtain: During the time Yang is in your party, give him two or more Augments. Then, you'll obtain it after hitting him on the head with a Frying Pan in the Sylph Cave. Effect: Increases the Defense of the party member who uses it. It reduces physical attack damage by 75%. This has to be used manually in order for it to work (meaning it doesn't work automatically just because you equip it). Counter How To Obtain: Given to you by Yang's wife when you board the boat after the Fabul Castle segment shortly after the beginning of the game. Effect: The party member that gets attacked will counterattack with the first attack on their list in the Abilities screen on the menu screen. You can change the ability on the list, so that the party member in question will attack with something else besides just Attack, which is the default one. Cry How To Obtain: During the time Palom and Porom are in your party, give either 1 Augment to Porom, or 2 to Palom. After that, talk to the Mysidian elder after you defeat Cagnazzo. Effect: Lowers the Defense of an enemy/boss by 50%. Curse How To Obtain: After defeating Scarmiglione, go down the floor below the one containing the summit. On that floor, go down the stairs and then go east to find a sparkling object on the ground, which is the Curse Augment. Effect: Inflicts Curse on the selected target. Darkness How To Obtain: Steal from Odin. Effect: Gives the Darkness status to the party member who uses it. The effect is only temporary. Draw Attacks How To Obtain: Given to you by King Giott after you defeat Golbez in the Dwarven Castle during your first visit to the Underworld. Effect: Makes it so that all attacks, be it physical or magical, are aimed at the party member who has this. Works well if used with Counter. Dualcast How To Obtain: During the time Palom and Porom are in your party, you have to give them both at least three Augments, with at least 1 to each of them (i.e. 1 to Palom, 2 to Porom). After that, talk to the Mysidian elder after you defeat Cagnazzo. Effect: Allows the user to cast two spells in a row. Eye Gouge How To Obtain: Defeat Mopingway in the Game Developer's room during the side quest with Namingway. Can only be gotten once. Side Quests | |=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| This section will list all of the side quests in the game, and how to start and complete them. ========== Sylph Cave ========== The Sylph Cave is a side quest that is accessible after Cid enables the Falcon to fly across magma. The cave itself is located in the northwestern corner of the Underworld. Fly there, and land the Falcon. Then enter it. Sylph Cave ---------- Note that for this particular dungeon, you have to have Float. Rosa learns it at level 38. Also note that you have to recast Float every floor, so remember this. Anyway, starting off, head east and open the two chests to get some Angel Arrows as well as a Bestiary. After that, go southwest, then south and go through the door into B2. Once at B2, cast Float, then go south and go through the door to reach another area of B1. Once there, go west and north, opening the two chests you come to to get 1000 gil and a Cottage. With that, go back to the entrance, then go east and you'll reach a Save Point. Rest/ save there, then recast Float, and then go and follow the path to the north. You'll reach what looks like a dead end. But in fact, there is a secret passage in the wall here. Go through said secret passage and then go north to reach the chest you couldn't reach earlier. It contains an Elven Bow. Give it to Rosa immediately, and equip the Angel Arrows if you didn't earlier. Now, take the western exit on the south side of the room to reach B2. In here, cast Float, then follow the long path to the north, ignoring the first door you come across. At the top, you'll see another door, but don't take it. Instead, hug the eastern portion of the wall to go through a secret passage. Follow it to a chest containing a Mage Masher. You have to battle for it. The fight is very easy, just have Rydia summon Dragon. The Mage Masher isn't a very good weapon. It has extremely high Accuracy, however, and that's always a plus. In addition, the Mage Masher deals double damage to mage-type enemies. Anyway, after the battle, go back to the first door I told you to ignore earlier (the one below the one by the secret passage), and enter it. You'll be in B1 again, but this time, in a different area. Cast Float and head all the way north, and you'll come across five chests, which contain a Hi-Potion, an Ether, a Soma Drop, a Golden Apple, and an Arctic Wind. With that, exit this room, then when in the previous room, cast Float and take the door to the north (the one near the secret passage that led to the Mage Masher). You'll appear at B3 after going through the door. Once there, go west and follow the path to a chest containing an Elixir. Once you get that, go south, then east, and you'll come across a house, which you should enter. Inside, open the two chests to get a Kiku-ichimonji as well an Aura Staff. Give the Kiku-ichimonji to Edge, and just ignore the Aura Staff. Sell it later. Now, go west and you'll see Yang lying in bed asleep. Unfortunately, he doesn't talk, as he appears to be in a coma of some sort. Damn. Go up the stairs to reach a room with more stairs. Go up those stairs to be outside. Rest/save outside, and then enter the Sylph Cave again. We're going to collect the remaining items scattered throughout the cave. Cast Float and then go south to B2. There, cast Float and then head west and north to reach three chests, which contain a Hi-Potion, a Maiden's Kiss, and a Faerie Rod. With that, go back to the entrance of this room, and then hug the eastern wall by the door leading out, then you'll be in a secret passage. Follow it to the north to reach a small area with several empty chests. Go through the nearby door to reach the next. In this area, cast Float and follow the path east, then go south at the split. Take a left when you see the path split into two different directions. Open the four chests here to get 3000 gil, a Bomb Core, a Remedy, and 2000 gil. Now, take the southern path now, then at the end, open the chests to get an Emergency Exit, a Maiden's Kiss, an Ether, and then another Maiden's Kiss. Now, fall through the hole by the isolated chest to the east, and you'll come to another area. In that area, cast Float and go all the way north, then hug the western side of the wall to enter a secret passage. Follow it west to the previously visited area with several empty chests. Go through the red sparkling area in the middle to be warped to a different location, known as Sylphs' Cache. Sylphs' Cache ------------- This area contains quite a bit of treasure. They contain a Red Fang, a White Fang, a Blue Fang, a Moonring Blade, an Avenger, and some Medusa Arrows. You have to fight monsters in all of the chests in order to get the items. The top three chests feature Evil Dreamers. Defeat them by summoning Dragon with Rydia, while everyone else attacks. Your top priority should be to keep Rydia awake, since these enemies cast Sleep. They also cast Silence, and an MT Fira. However, both Sleep and Silence are also MT, so watch out. As long as Rydia is alive, you should be able to win. The bottom three chests each have different enemies guarding them. The one with the Moonring Blade contains two Elder Treants and a Malboro. The Elder Treants have a very potent physical attack once they Berserk themselves, so do be careful. Use Dispel to get rid of Berserk, but it's probably better you do not, since it's pretty much a waste. Instead, have Rydia summon Ifrit, have the rest of the group attack, and have Rosa use an MT Curaga on the group. Also, Protect wouldn't hurt, either. Watch out for the Malboro's Bad Breath attack, which sets several negative status aliments on a party member. The chest with the Avenger contains two Malboro's. Rough. Summon Ifrit to win easily here. The final chest, the one containing the Medusa Arrows, contains two Tunneler enemies. They are easy to defeat. Once you get all of the loot in the chests, you can Teleport out of here, since you're done for now. We'll pick up Yang later. Once you get the Blue Whale from Mysidia, then we shall continue this side quest. So, when you get the Blue Whale, board the Falcon instead, ignoring the Blue Whale for now. Once on the Falcon, fly to Fabul Castle and enter it. Fabul Castle ------------ Head over to the third floor of the west tower, where you'll see Yang's wife. Speak to her. As she learns of Yang's condition, she gives you the Frying Pan so that you can get him awake by showing him her love. Whatever. With that, it's time to exit the castle and board the Falcon again. Head to the Underworld. There, enter the Sylph Cave again, and make your way back to the house with Yang and the Sylphs. Approach Yang, press A, and then hit him with the Frying Pan. He'll immediately wake up, and after some talking, the Sylph's will tell him to get him some rest, as he's still injured. Edge also concurs with this. You'll also get the Sylph summon here. Also, if you gave Yang two or more Augments when you had him in your group before, you'll gain the Focus, Kick, and Brace Augments, straight from Yang himself. Nice! With this, this side quest has one small piece of the puzzle left. Head back to Fabul Castle. Head back to the third floor of the west tower, and speak with Yang's wife. For returning the Frying Pan, she gives you the Knife, Edge's most powerful Throwing item in the game. Woo hoo! With that, this side quest is finally done. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you advance to the moon, recruit Fusoya, and complete the Giant of Babil, you won't have a chance to do this side quest. It is strongly recommended you complete this before advancing the story that far. The Knife is excellent to have, as are Yang's Augments. ======== Feymarch ======== The Feymarch is the location where all of the Eidolons (summons) dwell. It is where Rydia was taken after Leviathan swallowed her, and it is there where she learned how to excel in Black Magic, and also excel as a summoner. This side quest is available as soon as you acquire the lava-resistant plating on the Falcon. To start it, fly to the cave on the isolated island northwest of the Sealed Cave. Land there, then enter. Passage of the Eidolons ----------------------- Like the Sylph Cave, this place requires Float, otherwise the floor will damage you. Starting off, cast Float, then go east and north, and you'll come to a chest that contains a Phoenix Down. With that, hug the northwest portion of the wall and you'll find a secret passage. Go through it and you'll reach a small room with a chest. Open it to get an Ether. Now, backtrack to the chest with the Phoenix Down, and head due south to another chest, which contains a Hi-Potion. Now, head west and the north when the path splits. Go through the exit in the southwestern corner of the room to reach the next area. When you reach B2, cast Float and then go east and north, ignoring all of the various path splits except for the northern one. Open the chest at the end to get a Cottage. Now, go all the way south, then east when you reach the eastern branch, and open the chest at the end to get a Hi-Potion. Now, head southeast of the chest that contained the Cottage, then go through the exit there to reach B3. Once there, cast Float and follow the path all the way south until you reach a chest, which you should open to get a Phoenix Down. Go left and hug the wall to find a secret passage, which will lead you to three more chests, which contain a Kiku-ichimonji, a Poison Axe, and a Hi-Potion. Give the Kiku-ichimonji to Edge, and give the Poison Axe to Kain. Exit the secret passage and go all the way to the east and you'll reach a chest containing a Bestiary. Go east of this chest and you'll find another secret passage in the wall. Follow this one north, then exit to the next area in the room, where you should go west, then north. You'll find a chest that contains a Defender. You have to fight for it, though. Once you get it, give it to Cecil, then go to the center of the area, and you'll find a blue warp tile on the ground. Step on it to be transported to The Feymarch. The Feymarch ------------ Well, this is it. This is the place where Rydia spent all of her time after Leviathan swallowed her. Starting off, open the various chests in the room to get an Ether, a Bestiary, a Rat Tail, 5000 gil, and 6000 gil. Once you get the loot, step on the diamond-shaped tile north of the chest that contained 6000 gil, and you'll be warped to a secret area. Go up the stairs and open the four chests to get some Yoichi Arrows, an Elixir, a Yoichi Bow, and a Dry Ether. Give Rosa the newly acquired Yoichi equipment, then go back down the stairs and step on the pink transporter to get back to the previous area. The blue one will warp you out of here completely, so don't step on it. Back in the previous area, go to the northern portion of the room, where you should find a pink transporter. Step on it to be carried to the next floor of the place. Once there, go into the house west of the Inn and you'll find yourself in Whyt's house. Whyt and his father are standing beside the bed of Whyt's mother. Apparently, she's sick, but there's nothing we can do right now. For now, just open the two chests in here to get a Phoenix Down as well as a Bestiary. Rest/save at the Save Point at the back end of the room, then exit this house. Head over to the Weapon Shop and buy Rydia a Blitz Whip. You may also want to pick up a few Shurikens for the upcoming boss. When you're done here, exit and head into the Armor Shop. Buy Rosa a Luminous Robe, and buy Cecil an Aegis Shield. Equip them both, and then exit. Enter the house south of Whyt's house, and then go down the two sets of stairs in that house, and you'll be in a room where the King and the Queen of the Eidolons dwell. Talk to the Queen, as the King isn't willing to do anything with you just yet. When she says she will lend you her strength after she tests you, say Yes to begin a battle with her. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Asura | | HP: 21104 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: Fire, Ice, Thunder, Wind | | Weaknesses: N/A | | Experience Points: 84416 | | Gil: 1400 gil | | Location: The Feymarch | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: If it were not for Reflect, this fight would be impossible. Asura has the ability to heal herself, rather significantly, I might add. The only way to negate this is to use Reflect on her. That way, when she heals herself, it'll bounce off and heal you instead. So, start the battle off by using Reflect with Rosa. Once Asura has been Reflected, cast Blink on Cecil. If he has (and he should) Draw Attacks set, he'll be taking all of Asura's painful physical attacks. This is good, because then instead of having to Blink the whole group, all you have to do is focus on Blinking Cecil. Whenever it wears off, quickly recast Blink on Cecil. When Cecil is not in need of Blink, Rosa can just sit there. Rydia should summon Dragon, Edge should Throw Shurikens, and Kain should Jump. Cry is also useful, although certainly not mandatory, in this fight. You might want to cast Haste on Rydia, just to make the battle a little bit shorter. After you defeat Asura, she'll allow you to summon her at will from now on, and thus Rydia gains the summon Asura. Nice. Go back to the Save Point and rest/save, then come back and talk to the King. He'll ask if you want to face him in combat. Do so. Note though, that this guy is a lot harder than Asura. Be ready. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Leviathan | | HP: 30099 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: Ice, Water | | Weaknesses: Thunder | | Experience Points: 150495 | | Gil: 1500 gil | | Location: The Feymarch | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This is a very difficult fight, to be honest. At the start of the battle, Leviathan will cast Deluge, which will is a ridiculously powerful MT Water spell that will deal upwards of 2000-3000 damage to your group. As Leviathan casts this, you should try and Defend with everyone to reduce the damage some. Assuming you survive it (at least two party members should survive), then quickly cast Slow on Leviathan, and then get your group revived. Once your group is revived, have Rosa Dualcast an MT Curaja on your group and then use Haste on herself. With that, Dualcast an MT Shell on your group and then cast Haste on Rydia. You don't have to Haste anyone else, but it might be wise to Haste Edge, so that he can Throw Shurikens at a very rapid pace. At any rate, be warned that Leviathan will still attack with Deluge, so quickly Defend with everyone when he does so. Even with Shell, Defending is VERY wise. In addition to Deluge, Leviathan will attack with Blizzara, sometimes ST, sometimes MT. The MT is extremely weak, but you should be sure your HP is at least above 1000 in order to protect against the ST Blizzara. As for the attack pattern, have Cecil attack, have Edge Throw Shurikens or use his Blitz Ninjutsu, have Rydia use Thundaga or summon Ramuh, and have Kain Jump. Using Cry on Leviathan will also help. As long as you make sure Shell is on, and that you are Defending each time he does Deluge, you should win. If not, come back and try later when you're stronger. ==== Odin ==== There is a summon in Baron Castle that you can gain. This summon is Odin, the mythical god himself. Cool. To start it off, simply fly to Baron Castle. This side quest is available after you get out of the underworld after completing the Sealed Cave. Baron Castle ------------ Upon entering, go all the way into the east tower. Once there, head down the stairs to the left, and you'll appear in B1. Go east and down the stairs to reach B2. Go east and north, and you'll encounter the spirit of the King of Baron. This is the real one, not Cagnazzo. He'll say that he'll test your strength. If you defeat him, you get him as a summon. Go figure. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Odin | | HP: 40001 | | Strengths: N/A | | Absorbs: N/A | | Weaknesses: Thunder | | Experience Points: 160004 | | Gil: 1600 gil | | Location: Baron Castle | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This fight is very difficult. If you want to fight him later when you have Omnicast, by all means. It is possible, though, to win without the aid of Omnicast. If you're using Omnicast, have Rosa use Slow on Odin and Blink on Cecil at the start of the fight (assuming he has Draw Attacks, which he will, if you've been following the FAQ up until this point). With Cecil Blinked, Odin's devastating melee attack will miss him. Keep in mind though, that Blink wears off after it is repeatedly hit. It's pretty much a barrier, if you will. At any rate, once Cecil is Blinked, have Edge Steal until you get the Darkness Augment from him. This is the only way you can get it. Once Edge is done with the Stealing, have him Throw Shurikens, or whatever else you may have. If you managed to get the Knife, don't Throw that, as it'll come in handy during an upcoming boss fight. Have Rydia use Thundaga or summon Ramuh, and then have Rosa use Haste and Protect on the group, after her initial Slow/Blink. With this, you should win easily. As long as you keep Blink on Cecil throughout the fight, you can't lose this. Have Cecil attack Odin once he's Blinked. He can't do much else. Odin has one attack that can even defeat the awesomeness of Blink, and that's Zantetsuken. It's a powerful MT attack that will kill anyone except for Cecil if you don't use Defend. You'll be able to tell when Odin is going to do this by him raising his sword by his head. When he does this, keep using Defend until he does it. With Defend in effect, not only will Cecil survive, but your whole group could as well. I had every party member except for Edge survive it. Once Edge dies though, do not bother bringing him back, as Stealing the Darkness Augment was pretty much his only purpose in this fight. If you don't have Omnicast, this fight is much harder. Take Draw Attacks off of Cecil before the battle begins. This way, he will not kill Cecil with an ST attack just as the battle starts, and you'll be able to cast Blink on him. Whoever dies at the start of the fight due to Odin's ST attack should not be brought back by Rosa, since she has to Blink Cecil. You may not want to bring the person back at all, though, since it can be quite difficult, nigh impossible, to maintain a party of four throughout the fight with Odin's very strong physical attack. Either way, though, be sure to Slow Odin. Have Cecil attack, have Rydia summon Ramuh or use Thundaga, and have Rosa cast Haste on the group, then have her use Blink on herself to make sure Odin doesn't pull a surprise physical attack and kill her. If Edge manages to avoid being killed by the physical attack at the start of the fight, have him Steal the Darkness Augment from Odin. If he died, then oh well, it's probably not worth reviving him and risking your victory for it. Again, be sure to have Defend in effect with all party members when he uses Zantetsuken (if his sword is raised by his head, he's going to use it), and you should survive it with at least Rosa, Rydia, and Cecil alive. It's possible to finish the battle with these three, and just ignore Edge. That's what I did. Upon beating Odin, you gain him as a summon. Nice. ======= Bahamut ======= There is a side quest you can do on the moon that nets you the Bahamut summon. This is a very powerful summon, that uses a very powerful MT attack on all enemies for massive damage. It won't be easy to get, though, and I strongly suggest you are Level 45 to 50 before attempting this side quest. It is also highly recommended that you get Omnicast before trying this. To start this side quest, simply board the Lunar Whale and fly to the southeast portion of the map. You'll notice a circular area surrounding a cave. This is where we need to go. Land on the hilly area that surrounds the cave, then go down the stairs, rest/save, and enter. Lair of the Father ------------------ NOTE: Try and Steal from the Moonmaiden enemies in here. They will net you the Artemis Arrows, which are the best arrows in the game. Also, if you are having too much trouble with this place, which is a possibility, wait until after you've completed the Giant of Babil, so that you can get the Omnicasting Augment (see the Augments section). When you arrive here, go south, and then east. Go all the way east and hug the wall of the wall that's blocking your path, and you'll find a secret passage. Follow it east to a chest containing a Genji Shield. Give it to Cecil and go back west, then follow the path to the south. At the end of the path, you'll reach a chest that contains some Genji Gloves. Give these to Cecil as well, and then make your way to the opposite side of the room. Once you've fully mapped out the room, exit through the southeastern exit. In the area you come to, beware of the Armored Fiend enemies. They are very powerful, so my advice is to just run from them. At any rate, from the start, go west, then north when the path splits. You'll come to a chest containing a Genji Armor. Give this to Cecil and continue on. You'll come to another split to the north very shortly, this time one far narrower than the previous northern split. As you take that split north, you'll fight a Behemoth, a very powerful enemy with a significant amount of HP, as well as Magic Defense. You will have to fight three of these throughout the dungeon, so be ready. I'll explain how Behemoth's fight, and how to defeat them below. Behemoth's counterattack roughly half the time you attack them. They counter physical attacks with a physical attack of their own. They counter magic spells with an MT Tornado, which gets all your party members down to critical (yellow) HP. Not good. Because of this, it's probably best to use physical attacks. Note that Dualcast and Omnicasting both work well here, especially the latter, but you likely don't have that at this point. This FAQ assumes you at least have Dualcast. Have Rosa Dualcast Blink on Cecil and Edge, then have Rosa use Haste on them. Using Haste on Rydia isn't a bad idea, either, since she can summon throughout the fight, and the Behemoth won't counterattack it. Once the group is all Hasted and Blinked, it's time to begin the assault. Have Edge attack or Throw Shurikens at the Behemoth. You can also try Throwing some weapons, but I wouldn't recommend Throwing too many of them, what with the final dungeon coming up and all. Have Cecil attack, and have Rosa restore Blink to the group whenever it wears off. Finally, Rydia should summon Titan or Leviathan. Fusoya can be support by healing your group from something deadly like Maelstrom. He can, and should, also cast Slow on the Behemoth (do this for each Behemoth). If you didn't come here until after getting Omnicasting, have Kain use Jump, as his attack sucks against Behemoth's. At any rate, once you defeat the first Behemoth, ignore the northern path for now, and instead head east and open the chest to get a Genji Helm. Give it to Cecil, then take the northern path where the Behemoth was, then at the end of the path, go through the entrance leading to the next area. Once at B3, go south onto the narrow path. Shortly thereafter, you'll come across another Behemoth. Upon defeating it, continue following the long and narrow path to the south and west, where you'll eventually come across another Behemoth. Take it out as well, and then continue onward. You'll eventually reach an altar where a tall man with blonde hair awaits. This guy is actually the summon Bahamut in human form. Speak with him to initiate a battle. You must defeat Leviathan before you can fight him, though, so if you haven't done that, go and do so. ------------------------------------------------------------------ | Boss Battle : | | Bahamut | | HP: 45100 | | Strengths: All | | Absorbs: N/A | | Weaknesses: N/A | | Experience Points: 180400 | | Gil: 1700 gil | | Location: Lair of the Father | ------------------------------------------------------------------ Strategy: This is a ridiculously easy fight. Bahamut's only attack is MegaFlare, which he only uses after he counts down from 5 to 0. If MegaFlare hits, though, it will deal massive damage to your group, at least 2000. Bahamut casts Reflect on himself relatively quickly after the battle starts. This isn't anything to worry about, since you aren't going to be using magic spells in this fight. Before Bahamut casts Reflect, be sure to cast Slow on him. Once that is done, concentrate on Hasting the group. If you decided to come back here after getting Omnicast, have Rosa cast an MT Haste on the group. If not, just gradually Haste the group. Fusoya should also help with the Hasting. You could also cast Shell if you wanted, but that's not really necessary. While Hasting, have Cecil attack, have Rydia summon Leviathan, and have Edge Throw Shurikens. If Rosa has Artemis Arrows, have her attack once the group is Hasted. If not, she can just focus on healing purposes, along with Fusoya. Once Bahamut casts MegaFlare, quickly Defend with all party members. You should easily be able to survive it, especially if you decided to Shell your group. If anyone dies, just pick them back up. At any rate, quickly heal your group after the MegaFlare, and continue the assault. This fight should be over relatively quickly. After beating Bahamut, you get the Bahamut summon. Nice!
