Version history [1.1] [12/14/06][0.63] More of the walkthrough added; I'll try to have this walkthrough 1000% done by Christmas. [12/13/06][0.53] Put in some additional strategies for Keremet [12/11/06][0.50] More quests to the quest section. [12/9/2006][0.40] Added to the Quests section and typed everything in the walkthrough up to the second paragraph in Sandy Grave (6). [12/7/2006][0.20] Added a little part of the walkthrough (up to the Behemoth boss). [12/6/2006][0.10] Added everything up until the Dullahan boss, and I spellchecked the walkthrough. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2. Introduction [1.2] This is my second walkthrough on gamefaqs. My other walkthrough is for Contact for the Nintendo DS. It's pretty low quality, (there were a lot of topics saying my FAQ was terrible; there was also a topic with over 60 posts and the topic creator kept saying that having no FAQ was better then having a bad one) but some people did think it was ok so if you're a huge critic, I suggest that you wait or look for another one. Anyways, to save time and confusion, I used a system that let's you go straight through this walkthrough to wherever you need. To use this, open your "find" window (ctrl+f) and type in the letters and stuff in the find window. Make sure it includes EXCACTLY the same thing that is next to the thing you're looking for in the table of contents, including the brackets or it will not work. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, E-mail me at [email protected]. Gameplay [GMP] ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 1. Story [2.1] The year is 1944. The world is filled with chaos. The second global war holds the world in its grip of terror, creating hatred and fear along with countless numbers of lost souls. The agony and hatred of those souls summon the castle of evil. The castle that has appeared many times throughout history only to bring terror and destruction upon its surrounding, the castle of the dark lord, Dracula... The demonic castle. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2. Characters [2.3] _______________________________________________________________________________ Jonathan Morris (18 years old, male) Wielder of the legendary whip, "Vampire Killer." A hot-headed, energetic young man, but has confidence, poise, and a sense of humor. At times, this makes him seem like he's not taking things seriously. But when it really counts, he can be very clever. His most common answer to things: "No problem." Charlotte Aulin (16 years old, female) Grew up with Jonathan. Intelligent, but is a little too confident in her book smarts. Talks a lot, and sticks her nose into others' business. She takes a logical approach to everything so she comes off as unemotional. Has great magic power, and is seen as the potential final weapon in the battle against Dracula. Wind (Died at age 50) The person who teaches skills and gives items to Jonathan and Charlotte He was killed by Brauner and was almost made a part of Dracula's castle, but the strength of his soul allowed him to retain his consciousness. His soul is trapped within Dracula's castle, however, so he cannot move or put his soul to rest. Stella (21 years old, female) The older of the twin vampire sisters. Has a flashy, aggressive personality. Looks down on humans condescendingly. Is skilled at physical attacks. Loretta (21 years old, female) The younger of the twin vampire sisters. Her physical appearance is a little plain, and she is intelligent, rational, and unemotional. Looks down on humans, like her sister. Is skilled at magical attacks. Brauner (age unknown, male) A vampire who lost his daughters 30 years ago, and had his magic powers awakened by Dracula's castle. Revived Dracula's castle by collecting the tortured souls of those who died in World War II. His goal is to destroy humans, who have yet again started war. Vincent Dorin (32 years old, male) A priest who acts as your guide. Not the courageous type. Runs the store. Death (age and gender unknown) Dracula's right-hand man, who was resurrected along with Dracula's castle. Lawful evil. Has some samurai-like aspects. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ III. Tips and Tricks [TAT] ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 1. My Tips, tricks, and advice. JUMP ATTACK TRICK (I'll refer to it as JMPA) -------------------------------------------- This is REALLY REALLY REALLY useful if you can master it or even use it. This also works really well with a great sword or axe or similar weapon (swords that swing really slowly). This is pretty simple. Jump towards the enemy and attack at the peak of your jump, then on your way down, move backwards. This is helpful in boss fights where the boss moves a lot. Why? Because if you just jump forwards while attacking, you're likely to run into the boss and take damage. If you use the JMPA, you can save a lot of potions in the long run. TRIPLE JUMP (I'll refer to it as TRPJ) -------------------------------------- Once you get the STONE OF FLIGHT relic, you can do TRPJ in midair. To perform it, first jump off your partner's shoulders. In midair, double jump by using the ACROBAT CUBE. You can use this to get to some places earlier and other places you couldn't reach before. 2. Contributors' Tips, tricks, and advice I want to mention a tip for Keremet, if you push his cauldren over to either side just at the edge of the platforms, then call your partner near the cauldren, you can jump up on the platform and keremet will come up facing your partner, away from you if you did it right. You are now able to smash away at his weak point without geting hit. ---Ajcomix 1. The Red SKeletons and Red Axe Armor CAN be killed, with the "Undead Killer" whip. They give lots of XP and SP so they are great to level up with. To power up your sub-weapons knock the skeletons down with them and then when they revive hit 'em with the whip- they are worth 5 SP (10 with the Master Ring). The best room is the first room of the pyramid with the three skeletons and the save room. Took me less than five minutes to level up my Javeling and Cross to Master level!!! 2. To MASTER weapons, you only need to hit the enemy with it ONCE. For example, If I hit a boss with the Javelin then use my weapon the rest of the time, I still get the Skill Points for it. You can check your skill points in the guides section.-Iholm +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ IV. Walkthrough [WLK1] +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Ok. Here is the actual walkthrough for Portrait of Ruin. I may be wrong on the order of the areas, as I'm doing this on my first playthrough. Again, if you know a different way of progressing, e-mail me and tell me. It will be GREATLY appreciated. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Entrance [4.1] $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ The game will play out its intro and stuff. Once it's over and you get control of Jonathan, run straight to the right into the castle. Drop onto the floor here and run into the glowing cube to obtain the CHANGE CUBE relic. Jump up the platforms and jump to the left to find the CALL CUBE, another relic. Use your newly aquired relic to (press A) to summon Charlotte. This will put enough weight on the switch to cause the bridges to fall down. Go right to find some zombies. They only give 2 exp, so just kill the two of them and continue to go right until you find a place where the paths split up, down, and right. Drop down through the platform to obtain Charlotte's Tome of Arms 1. Follow the path here to reach a save room and a short sword (equip it if you like). Watch out for a bat on your way down. Press up at the statue, save your game, and go back to where the paths split. Turn right and you will see several cracked pillars. Hit them three times to shatter them, then run through. Do this as fast as you can, because a giant monster (you'll have to fight him later) will chase you. At the end, be prepared to jump up some platforms. Wait till the beast passes you and go through the door it just busted open. On the other side of the fallen pillar here, there is a sub weapon for Jonathan. Equip it and hop up into the left room. Kill the skeletons and run through the room to another relic, the WAIT CUBE. Use this to summon your partner onto the statue. NOTE: if you fall off the statue to the left of it, you can destroy it; leave the room to make it reappear. Fall off the statue to the right side and push it left next to the high platform. Press X to switch to your partner and jump off the statue to the platform. You will find a RAGING FIRE spell for Charlotte; equip it in the equip screen. In the next room, watch out for the Axe Armor's axe, because it will come back like a once he throws it. Jump up the nearest platforms and kill the Axe Armor to find the BOOK OF SPIRITS relic. Drop into the previous room. If you go left into the next room, you'l find a warp room. Go into it and leave to open it up so you can warp to there from other warp rooms. Drop to the bottom right and go in that room to find Wind. Accept the "Preperations" quest and go right to find a shop and save statue. Buy at least 1 potion (you should buy more for the upcoming boss, but you don't have to) and a map and go back and talk to Wind to get another relic (LIZARD TAIL) (DOWN + B). Leave and jump up onto the platform and go left and use the lizard's tail to slide through the narrow hole. In the left room, you will enter a mysterious painting to another area. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 2. City of Haze [4.2] $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ This area straightforward. Keep running right and killing enemies along the way. You will eventually reach a building. Inside, jump up all the platforms until you reach another room. Kill the Axe Armor and go up the platforms and left. All the way to the right, drop down and proceed to the next room. Don't forget to pick up the LEATHER CUIRASS armor on your way down. Just keep following the same path until you're out of the builing. You'll come to a giant creature with a flaming sword a little bit down the road. Don't be intimidated by them; they aren't extremely strong. Go into another building and go straight straight to reach a save room. Save in there, and go up and right in the previous room. You will not be able to reach some platforms in the next room, so jump on a table to get a little extra jump height. Do that again in the next room. In this room, drop down at the earliest chance and go right to find your first Dual Crush attack, Rush. Outside that room, go up and up and up again to find a a CLAYMORE. Keep following that path until you are outside. Be careful, because you will be swarmed by zombies that regenerate constantly. Just plow through them to get to ANOTHER building. Go up at the next part to find a LEATHER WHIP and a POTION. At the end of the room, you can keep going right into another building to find another Dual Crush attack, or go down to get to the boss. If yu go down, go left and down and down again to find a bag of money, a save room, and another room leading to the boss. To get to the save room, go left. Jump in the cart and summon your partner with down + A and walk over to the switch. Hit it from the right as far as possible away from it, and hit X right before you hit it and you will switch to the character in the cart. Let the cart run to the end of the room and go right. Here, go right to go to the boss, or go up to get to the MACE and another spell for Charlotte. There is also a warp room there. Keep going right and you will reach a vertical room. To the right is a save room, and go up to get closer to the boss. Once you find another large room, drop down and go right, then in the next room make your way to the top-left of the area. In the next vertical room, you will find a save room and warp room. When you're don here, go up and continue to finally find the boss. 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 6 66 6 Boss: Dullahan [4.2.1] 66 6 HP: 600 66 6 EXP: 500 66 6 Weaknesses: Strike, Whip, Thunder 66 6 Description: A beheaded knight who carries his severed head 66 6 66 6 Strategy: Uhh.. just start attacking and stay close to him. Your partner 66 6 will somehow end up on the other side of Dullahan eventually. 66 6 This will severely confuse Dullahan and he will constantly turn around, 66 6 leaving him vunerable. This battle becomes extremely easy then. As long as66 6 your partner doesn't go by you, you're pretty much guarranteed to win. 66 6 Make sure that you can see your partner on the screen or else they will 66 6 teleport back to you. 66 6 66 6 Attacks: 66 6 Diagonal stab: Stabs at you when you're on the platforms; jump off the 66 6 platform when he pulls his lance back. 66 6 Forward stab: Tries to stab you when you're in front of Dullahan. Jump on 66 6 a higher or lower platform to avoid. 66 6 Dark orbs?: Dullahan will fire 3 or 4 purple orbs at you. Just stay in one66 6 spot until he fires then get out of the way. These do a LOT of damage if 66 6 multiple orbs hit you, so avoid these at ALL COSTS!! 66 6 Dark orbs 2: Many many small versions of the above attack will fly 66 6 everywhere. Go to one of the walls and wait till they spread out, and 66 6 jump through the gaps between each pair of orbs. 66 6 Spikes: He'll jump up and stab his sword into the ground and cause spikes 66 6 to go shooting across the floor. Get onto the highest platform and the 66 6 spikes will not hit you. 66 6 66 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 After the fight, grab the ACROBAT CUBE. In the next room there is a stone wall blocking your path. Use the ACROBAT CUBE to jump over it. In this room, drop down to find an AXE. Equip the weapon if you like. In the previous room, jump up to the top to find MOONWALKERS (use the ACROBAT CUBE to get them) and the next room. Enter it and drop into the next room at the end of this one. Turn left here and in this room will be another stone wall. Jump over it and proceed to find the PUSH CUBE. You will also find a cart blocking your path. Start pushing the cart and summon your partner while pushing it, and they will help you move it. Go down and you will be near a warp room. On your map. look for the blue room. If you go left instead of going down, you'll find a spell for Charlotte that raises your CON. Warp back to the beginning of the City of Haze via the warp room I just mentioned. Exit the painting by pressing up in front of it. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 3. Entrance [4.3] $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Exit the room with the painting and go right by using the lizard's tail relic. Drop down and go all the right to the fallen pillar. Go up, but this time, go right and use the ACROBAT CUBE to get another relic. Go through the door and in the next room, go right again. If you didn't save a minute ago, go do it now. Pick up the spear and confront the Behemoth. 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 66 66 66 Boss: Behemoth [4.3.2] 66 66 HP: 800 66 66 EXP: 1000 66 66 Weaknesses: Slash, Fire, Holy 66 66 Description: A beast who rebelled against heaven; it fought on even 66 66 after it was killed. 66 66 66 66 Strategy: Oh man, This thing is REALLY ugly. Make sure you have some 66 66 potions. Stand on the platforms above the ground and attack Behemoth 66 66 until it stops moving. When it stops, it will attack, probably by 66 66 jumping. When it stops, just run towards it kind of slowly and it will 66 66 probably jump over you. Anyway, just stand on the platforms and attack. 66 66 66 66 Attacks: 66 66 Cough: Coughs up chunks of its insides or something. 66 66 Whip: Whips his tounge (???) at you. 66 66 Charge: Runs at you. He will snort and back up before doing this. Jump 66 66 on a platform and wait for him to pass, then go the opposite direction 66 66 that he charged. Example: He charges right, so go left. 66 66 Jump: He'll try to jump on you. Run under him to avoid. 66 66 66 66 66 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 Jump up to the the door that opened up and go in it. Buried Chamber [4.4] $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Proceed to the end of the room and go down into another one. Watch out for the Une that sprout out of the ground. Go left here for the Offensive Form Sub-Weapon. Get it and go back. Turn right here and go down for a Cestus, some Mudmen, and an invisible guy that flashes you... weird. Go through the room and jump up to the middle room. Jump over the wall in this room to get to a save room. At the bottom of the room turn left to get to a warp room and right to continue through the area. Kill the Dragon Zombie and go into the next room. Go to the bottom of the room and go right. Kill the enemies and go into the next room to find another invisible guy that flashes you. Jump up this room into the next. At the end of this room, destroy the pipes for a boiled starfish. Go back and jump up the platforms. Go right at the top of this room to find a BANDANA. Go back and turn left. Go to the end of this room to find the ICE FANG spell for Charlotte. Jump up the platforms and make your way to the top of this room. Jump up some more platforms and go right to enter the Great Stairway. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 5. Great Stairway [4.5] $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Hop up some more platforms and into the next room and you will have an encounter with Death. Once he shuts up, go left into another room. Go left again to find a warp room. If you need some supplies, warp back to the Entrance and buy what you need. Go up and turn right. Kill all the enemies and continue into the next room. Drop down here to find a Don Quixote weapon for Charlotte and a save room. Go back up and go right to find another boss. It's a hard one too. 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 66 66 66 Boss: Keremet 66 66 HP: 666 66 66 EXP: 2000 66 66 Weaknesses: Fire, Ice, Electric 66 66 Description: A demon that lives in small, enclosed spaces. 66 66 66 66 Strategy: Just kill the enemies he summons and avoid his attacks. Also, 66 66 attack the monster and not the pot. I have no idea why you can push it, 66 66 because I really have no idea what the point of it is. Anyways just do 66 66 what I said before. 66 66 66 66 Attacks: 66 66 Summon: Summons little green mini versions of the boss. 66 66 Dark orb: Fires a giant black and red ball straight from his mouth. 66 66 It won't hit you if you don't jump. If you hit it, it will explode into 66 66 acid. 66 66 66 -nekker- Hi, Saw your guide on Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. 66 There's actually an easy way to kill Keremet (Great Stairway boss). To 66 do so, jump onto the pot itself, and start whacking the pot from on 66 top of the edge of it. Keremet will pops his head out soon, but if 66 you're standing on the edge, you can avoid being hit. He can shoot 66 balls and summon small slimes for all he likes, but the place 66 you're standing would be a blind spot that these balls and slimes 66 can never hit. Keep slashing away until he retreats, and then repeat 66 the process until he's gone. You can finish him off without losing 66 any health, and without using any magic or combo. Hope this helps. 66 66 Jack-Hey man,Just thought I'd submit an alternate strategy for the 66 Keremet slime boss dude. The reason you can push him (or at least I 66 66 found) is to make him easier to hit. If you push the pot next to 66 66 the platforms on the far side of the room, your partner will stay at 66 66 the bottom on the other side and keep hitting the pot. Stay up the 66 66 top and he will come up facing your partner and launch those balls 66 66 the opposite way as you so you can simply hack at his head non 66 66 stop from the top platform. No need to credit me if you do decide 66 66 to put it in the faq, but it makes the boss a lot easier. I 66 66 don't have a gamefaq username either, if you do just call me Jack. 66 66 66 66 -Iammako3-For Kerret (the big gooey green blob monster in the pot), you 66 66 mentioned you didn't now why you could push the pot. Well, I believe 66 66 it's because if you push it all the way to the end, when Kerret goes 66 66 back into his pot for a second you can jump over him and attack him 66 66 from the rear. He doesn't turn around to fight you back. If you just 66 66 let your partner handle the little monsters it summons and just attack 66 66 it from behind, it's way easier to kill Kerret. 66 66 66 66 66 66 66 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 After Keremet's dead, get the Stone of Flight from the next room and use it to get to the top. Grab the Partisan and go through the door. Kill the Cateoblepas as fast as you can because it can petrify you. In the next room go right and fall through the platforms on the right side of the room, and go through the door. Here you'll find a warp room, save room, and a painting (desert) in the lower right room. Enter it. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 6. Sandy Grave [4.6] $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Kill the mummys and run through the room into the next, and into the next. In this room, move very slowly because a HUGE worm will come out of the ground. To those of you with pacemakers on, I suggest you stop playing. This thing is really bloody when it dies. Just hit it and move back up a little so you don't slide down into the worm. When it's dead, blood will be everywhere and stuff. Run down to where it was and let the quicksand swallow you. Pick the HP Max Up and go right again. Hit the Red Skeletons and move on; they will always come back to life. Jump onto the statue above the door for a Steel Whip, then jump onto the statue's head to find a save room. Fall off the statue and enter the door at the bottom of the statue. Go through the room and go into another one. Drop down right away to find an Amphisbaena. In the next room jump over all the switches. If you really want the items, you can grab them, but a laser will hit you and damage you. Next fall down the next room to the bottom to find a save room and warp room. Go through the middle room to find an Elgiza. Use the JMPA trick (in the tips, tricks, and advice section) to take out the arms first. Then destroy its head. Proceed into the next and kill the enemies. Kill or ignore the White Dragon looming over your head and go up into the next room via ACROBAT CUBE. In this room, open up your map section. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU WANT THE GOOD ENDING. When your map opens up, take a stylus or your finger or something, and take one of the red feathers (???) in the corner and drag it over to the room you're in (the blinking one). Once you get the frog morph/ owl morph spell, come back and go through the small space to your left. Anyways, wait till a boulder smashes into the wall and jump onto the platform. Wait untill you see a boulder come down the slope again and jump up into one of the holes above your head to jump over it. Repeat this all the way up the slope until you see the place where they're coming out. Here, wait till a boulder comes out. Jump over it and run past the place they spawn from into another room. Use a great sword or axe or something to kill the Mimic, then use the TRPJ (tips and tricks and advice section) to get to the potion. Get it and continue. Here, go right for an extremely powerful, but extremely linear, Dual Crush (only good for bosses that are on the ground, but it does massive damge; 50 knives and each knife does about maybe 15-60 damage for at least 750 damage, but you are vunerable). Go back to where you went left at and go up and enter the door. Go left to finally meet up with Brauner and his "daughters". Go through this room and go either right, for a Sand Worm and Bahg Nahk, or go through the door at the statue's head for the way to the boss. In the room after the room on the statues head, kill the Red Skeleton and e ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ V.
