Keeping villagers in your town.
As soon as you see that a villager is packing up and putting their belongings in cardboard boxes write a letter to them (just a plain jibberish letter it doesnt really matter) and send it turn your ds off and play a different game for the rest of the day.
The next day turn on animal crossing and you will have a letter back from them and they will still be in your town!
