Ubisoft Asking Gamers to Help Review Uplay Service

It is that time of year again! Game publisher Ubisoft is once again reevaluating its Uplay value-added service by asking gamers to take a short survey to help them learn what you liked over the course of the past year.

The Uplay service functions along the lines of a loyalty program for games published by Ubisoft that includes free items and kit for their games, which is obtained by spending points that are unlocked in the games through a store-like interface on the official Uplay website (

Points for the service are acquired by completing actions in the games that you already do -- like unlocking Achievements or Trophies -- and prizes you can obtain include PC and Console Themes, maps, kit, weapons, and other in-game items that often extend the fun of game play.

The Uplay service is platform independent -- being built into each video games and usually available as a selection from the main menu of the game, whether it is a PC, Xbox 360, or PS3 title. Points obtained in one game can be spent on items for another, permitting gamers to save their Uplay points to purchase larger items.

The service consists of four primary components: Uplay Win, Uplay Help, Uplay Share, and Uplay Shop.

Uplay Win allows players to collect "units" based on their gaming actions. These units can then be exchanged for rewards such as in-game content. By completing Actions, you earn Units that you can use to claim your choice of Rewards from a stack of downloadable goodies across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms. Each Action is a task that's already part of the game, from claiming territories, finding the assassin's tomb, or solving a tricky section.

Having trouble mastering Ezio's new moves or getting past a tricky boss in Naruto? Whateverís holding you up, help is at hand by simply selecting Uplay Help from the menu! Videos, walkthroughs, and hints are available for most of the games in the program.

Uplay Share is the Community side of the service -- and there's a great realm to post your own content, keep track of your friends, and taunt your foes -- and it lives in some of your favourite games. You'll find everything from profiles and leaderboards to your own good stuff like screen shots and web comments to share on the service and in the individual games.

The Uplay Shop is the last part of the service that is still under construction -- actually we should point out that Uplay is still in Beta Mode, but the word is that the Uplay Shop will be a fusion of the existing UbiShop that, in addition to games, will also sell a variety of merchandise from T-Shirts to digital goods.

At the present time Uplay support is built into the following games from Ubisoft:

-- Assassin's Creed 2
-- Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
-- Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy
-- H.A.W.X. 2
-- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
-- Pure Futbol
-- R.U.S.E.
-- Shaun White: Skateboarding
-- Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic
-- Splinter Cell: Conviction
-- The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom
-- Your Shape: Fitness Evolved

New Survey Questions

The survey questions start out by asking what games you have accessed the Uplay support in, as well as what platforms and Uplay services you have used, what retailers you shop at when you purchase games and general questions about how many games you buy in a year.

Following your selections you are asked to provide specific opinions on the games and the Uplay rewards for each game that you selected in the fist part of the survey.

Past Survey Results

Previous surveys have been used by Ubisoft to determine the direction that the service would take -- for example in a previous survey gamers indicated that they would like to be able to access the service via their iPhone, so Ubisoft recently created and launched a free iPhone app for that!

You can now access Uplay and its services from your iPhone (just like you would using your browser or game) with the new Uplay iPhone App, and once youíve downloaded the app you can:

- Check your Profile, Actions and Rewards for all games and systems.
- Redeem rewards from your iPhone.
- Get access to any available Help content -- which means you can now play your game on your computer or TV while following a Help Video from your iPhone!

Best of all, the app is completely free, and you even get 10 extra Units (Uplay Points) just for logging in on your iPhone as their way of thanking you for being an Ubisoft gamer.

Ubisoft has been encouraging gamers to participate in improving the service since it launched, with appeals for feedback and suggestions via the surveys and the feedback system on the website -- and whether you simply enjoy it or have a great suggestion about something they want to hear from you -- so if you have played any of the games and made use of the Uplay service over the course of the past year, check the email account that you associate with your Uplay account for your invitation to take the survey today.
