1 - Overview and Tips

Welcome to the Penumbear Golden Bear Guide. There are 12 Golden Bears in the
game. Golden bears are usually the most difficult bears to pick. There are two
ways of picking golden bears: Directly, lying inside a normal level, or
indirectly, picking a red firefly and then entering a secret level right after
beating the current normal level. Remember that you need to complete the level
you are in to get the golden bear, and remember that you can't enter directly
in a secret level by the menu even if you were there once already, so it means
you have to pass the secret stage in the same gameplay (or leave the APP open).

2. Bears

2.1 - The Basement Bears

2.1.1 - First Bear
Location: Shadowbeast
Secret Level: Yes
Difficulty: 4

Right on the beginning of the level, turn on the light switch stone and proceed
to your left. What you want to do is to get impulse from the moth to go up and
further to the left. Proceed and just take care after you get the red firefly
because it here is a hidden metal pointy-thing right after it.

Secret Level: FLAGELATION

The key is to your left. Go see where it is, but don't grab it. You'll
understand later. Then backtrack to your right, and proceed. You will end up
going up, passing by the door, then left, and then picking the golden bear. Now
you want to fall by the left of the big arachnid monster, where the key is.
Seeing the place before helps you land on the right spot. Now go to the door.
If you end up dying after picking the key, the difficult will be grater since
you will need to pass the left portion of the level twice every time you try.

2.1.2 - Second Bear
Location: Flying
Secret Level: No
Difficulty: 1

You should have no problem with this one. You'll see it in the middle of the
level. There's two ways to pick it. The first and harder is to jump on the
moths when they are on the higher lamp, you shouldn't be able to do it, but it
is possible. And the second is to turn off the higher lamp too and one solitary
helpful moth will be in the very middle of the way between you and the golden
bear.

2.1.3 - Third Bear
Location: Boss
Secret Level: No
Difficulty: 1

The bear is located at the right portion of the map, not far from the beginning
of the boss. Right after you pass the first ant, you have to wait for the boss
to make a light path to you from right to left. Then, as you make your way up
going to the right portion of the map once again, continue right and you should
grab the golden bear, it is not that hidden. The trick here is to get it fast,
but since you have to wait for the boss to make the light path, you only need
to be fast from this point.

2.2 - The Dungeon Bears

2.2.1 - Fourth Bear
Location: Down
Secret Level: No
Difficulty: 1

Right at the beginning of the level, fall to your left. You will soon find a
single spike structure, with three concatenated spike structure right below it.
There is a fake wall block between these two two elements. Proceed to your left
and up to grab the bear.

2.2.2 - Fifth Bear
Location: Or The Hard Way
Secret Level: Yes
Difficulty: 3

This bear is at the highest portion of the level, in the north-east. It's right
after you pick one of the non-golden bears, the one that lies a bit above the
light that kills the ants. Starting from the non-golden bear, go up a little
and left on the flying curvy platform. Then jump twice to your left and you
should reach a fake block on the wall, atop of two concrete blocks. Proceed to
find the red firefly.

Secret Level: OLD SCHOOL

This level is pretty straightforward. The only hard part is climbing the moths,
but there is no secret to it. Just randomness.

2.2.3 - Sixth Bear
Location: All good dogs
Secret Level: No
Difficulty: 2

After picking all the 'good dogs', I mean, the three sequential non-golden
bears, continue to your right. What you want to do is double jump to the pit on
the very right portion of the level, after the big spikes. You will soon notice
the golden bear while falling. And then you can come back to the main part of
the level with that path that seemed to go nowhere in the very south-east
portion of the level.

2.3 - The Cavern Bears

2.3.1 - Seventh Bear
Location: Lost
Secret Level: Yes
Difficulty: 4

Have you ever played soccer or football? Do you know what a dribble is?
A dribble is the ability to pass through an opponent with the ball. And that's
what you have to do here. Well, without the ball part. At the very south-east
corner of this level there is an armadillo like monster that you'll have to
avoid by jumping. Don't be slow when entering his lair or he will then stay all
the way to the right, in a place you can't evade him. Just go. And grab the red
firefly.

Secret Level: PROTOTYPE

This secret level have unique art, that seems to be... well, prototype art. But
there isn't much to say here, the bear is easily spotted in the middle of the
way, a little bit down the exit.

2.4 - The Fireplace Bears

2.4.1 - Eight Bear
Location: Burnout
Secret Level: Yes
Difficulty: 2

At the beginning of the level, fall in the pit to your right. Then keep and
pushing the wall on your left and you will end up finding a false pipe-like
structure. You'll find a non-golden bear. Just follow the path all way up until
you find a rectangular dark boulder. The idea here is to timely push the
boulder to the light to make the boulder go to your right, but solving this
puzzle is not necessary. If you proceed to your right you will end up in a 
place with a tiny rock intended to block the boulder movement and a apparently
unreachable platform up above. What you need to do is run left-to right in this
little rock to go up a little, then double jump and hit the platform above
sideways. The bear will stumble upon it and gain the last boost upwards needed.
Alternatively, you can use the bug that happens when the games reach low FPS
and you just bounce off any platform, gaining an additional jump. Pick the red
firefly.

Secret Level: OASIS

Make your way to the right until you reach the moth. Light the first torch,
and then making the highest jump you can to land on the moth and gain impulse
to pick the bear up above. Now that you are up there, you can calmly light the
second torch and turn the first off. Now jump over the moth one last time to
make your way to the exit on the right.

2.5 - The Hall Bears

2.5.1 - Ninth Bear
Location: Next Door
Secret Level: Yes
Difficulty: 5

First you have to change the only stone light switch in the level. Then go to
the left portion of the level, where there is a laser and a rectangular dark
boulder. The trick here is to deactivate and reactivate the laser fast, so you
can climb atop it without the boulder falling. Alternatively, in order to reach
the platform above the boulder you can use the bug that happens when the games
reach low FPS and you just bounce off any platform, gaining an additional jump,
but its easier to do the normal way. Jump through the way and soon enough you
will find the red firefly. If you didn't turn the switch it will be trapped
inside a lightspot.

Secret Level: HOT

As soon as the level start, you should start going right. I advise this because
there is an open space right at the beginning (of time), so it saves time on
the many retries that you probably will need. Jump on the rectangular tiny
platform and wait a whole second for the square platform's small fire/spiky
monster to move. Jump on it. You need now to wait an instant and jump on the
second square platform just below the second square platform's small fire.
You should pass just below the fire and above the second square
platform's spiky monster. Now perform a double jump all the way to the right
and you passed the first part of the level. You need to practice this a bit.

Now you have two sets of three iron spears going up and down. The idea is to
jump on them when they are down, but the game is not so precise, and you
sometimes end up getting glitch-killed even when they are down. But it is
possible to at least avoid it in the first set. Just timely double jump all the
way to the right and you should successfully avoid the spears and the burning
ashes on the ground.

Now its the hard part. Right after the second set there are burning ashes, a
compressor, and after that there is light blocking the way that you need to
turn off or the compressor kills you.

There are several ways to make it, because the light switch is accessible just
a little before the compressor, but since the game is a mobile game, which
means there isn't much precision on the buttons, I'll write the easiest
touch-screen way in my opinion.

First you need to jump on the second sets of spikes when it is down and hope it
doesn't glitch-kill you. Then jump or double jump below the compressor
(the second jump is just to gain time if needed), avoiding the burning ashes.
Now that you are below the compressor quickly turn the light off. Since it
takes time to the light to turn off, you have to go back or you will get
compressed. Go back atop the second set of spikes, using jumps to help timing,
and then hope again it doesn't glitch-kill you.

Now you have two options:
The first and easiest in my opinion is to go back directly below the compressor
again and grab the bear.
The second is to go back further and rest a little. Go to the second three-iron
spear set again and hope once more it doesn't glitch-kill you. Go below the
compressor again and grab the bear.

Backtracking shouldn't be a problem now, but it will be since you are excited
because you just went through some trouble. You probably will die once or
twice, but once you get the bear for the firs time, it will get easier and
easier to get again, so don't panic if you die.

2.5.2 - Tenth Bear
Location: Freshair
Secret Level: No
Difficulty: 5

This one is tricky. You probably won't miss him, since he is in the middle of
the stage, but once you get it you will get trapped in a pit. First of all pick
all the keys of the stage so you can focus on just going to the exit after
leaving the pit. There are four breakable platforms that restore after some
time that you need to climb, and here is the easiest way to do it:

First, break the first one with your head, and as soon as you land in the
non-breakable platform, jump twice to break the second one (you have to make a
perfect high jump to break the second one, so time your jump carefully).
Then you wait for the first one to restore, and jump on it right before it is
fully restored. There is no way I know of knowing when it will restore so just
jump and jump and hope you make to the top of it. If you don't, start from the
beginning patiently.
Now that you are atop the first breakable platform, pay attention: You don't
want to double jump just now to break the third one. First jump on the second
one right before it restores (it should restore right after the first one, but
giving you just enough time to jump over it) and let it break, jump in the air
so you gain some time, and then on the SECOND jump you break the third
platform. The time between breaking the first and the second platform should be
similar to the time between breaking the second and the third, so its easier to
time your jumps.
Then you will fall back to the beginning in the non-breakable platform. Again,
jump and jump and hope you make it to the first platform, if you don't, start
again. If you do, then jump to the second platform.

Now you have two options:
The first, which I find the easiest, is to double jump from the second platform
to reach the fourth one and breaking it, landing on the third one right after.
The path is now open! Quickly double jump to your freedom.
The second, is to jump on the third and let it break as you did with the second
one, then break the fourth before falling, and landing again in the
non-breakable platform. Then again jump and jump and hope you land on the first
one, and then just jump to the second, third and fourth timely. But this is a
bad decision because if you miss the first one you'll have to start over,
like always.

2.5.3 - Eleventh Bear
Location: Signal Tower
Secret Level: No
Difficulty: 2

Right after you reach the source of the signal tower non-lethal laser, fall and
keep your left on the wall. You will soon spot a hole. Proceed to eventually
reach the golden bear.

2.5.3 - Twelfth Bear
Location: Windy
Secret Level: Yes
Difficulty: 3

Right after the exit door there is a pit with four hidden metal pointy-thing
intercalated. What you have to do here is zigzag through them, but first wait
for the wind to calm down. Grab the red firefly.

Secret Level: THE PIT

Well I don't really know if there is a right way to get past this, but I found
a way. Everything is blacked out. What I did was to raise my Iphone luminosity
to maximum and go to a dark room to increase contrast. Then you can see your
way clearly and the level itself is quite easy.

4 - FAQ

4.1 - Is there a way of knowing the stages that have the golden bears/red
fireflies?

Yes. First You need to pick all non-golden bears. Then, you can swipe through
levels in the level select screen and the firefly will have a "!" next to its
head when the level contains a golden bear or a golden firefly. Warning: It
will show ALL the level with golden bears/red fireflies, despite of the ones
you already got.

4.2 - Do I get something after picking all the golden bears?

Yes. Not just the "World Conqueror" achievement, but an option arises at the
pause menu: switch to the "Fuegoso" character. Fuegoso has three jumps, and
pass through light and the non-lethal lasers. But he's not invincible and even
ghosts can still take your fireflies. I don't think that all the stages can be
passed as Fuegoso, but at least the last boss is possible, although nothing
special happens.
