The purpose of this guide is to assist you in understanding this game's features and functionality, to enable you to create games that can sell and profit so you can beat your high score! Well, kinda. This guide is a joint effort by many wondrous users at the GameFAQs message board, in no order, here are the authors: pillarofautumn, climhazzard99, WasabiLinus, Crack Addict, Chanthas and me. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the Game Dev Story message board and being able to provide helpful answers and hints whenever asked. This guide is written by gamers for gamers! Should I have left out any vital information, correct any errors or lack any information that you think I should have included, please e-mail me at: wongyeangchiong (at) hotmail (dot) com Do put in a relevant subject title or "Game Dev Story" so that I know it isn't a junk mail or someone saying claiming they need my help to get some funds out of some bogus bank. This is to ensure I won't delete your mail by accident as I tend to clear my e-mail frequently. This guide is about Game Dev Story, a game by Kairosoft. Sit back, relax yourself with a hot cup of coffee as you absorb whatever details and knowledge that can be imparted to you in this guide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II) UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.0 - Raw version of the guide 1.5 - Super Cheats has been given permission to upload this guide 2.0 - Added several information and corrected some thanks to the contributors who mailed me, Aaron Evans (chylde_roland); Darren Tan (phazer); Edward Zhang; Justin Mosovsky; Kevin (Gnoll Guy) and Mike Flynn. Thank you all so much for the feedback, additional information, correction and the time you guys took to write the e-mail. I really appreciate it 2.7 - Would like to take this chance to thank HarunaAkatsuki for writing in and assist in correcting some of my information and also adding more information for y'all! Thanks so much, HarunaAkatsuki! I have also added a slightly new question for the FAQs section 2.8 - Updated the guide with an information provided by Piers. The Trivia section has been changed 3.0 - I have removed any "verified" or "confirmed" puns and etc from the Trivia section as there are too many possible puns since there is not really any way to confirm of its absolute existence. I will however put in a "suggested by" tag next to any that bears a resemblance to the puns involved. I would also like to thank contributors Bryan "BMW" and Freddie who e-mailed me to add information and correct some stuff that has been written on this guide. Bryan also added information regarding the usage of the Boosters which I will add on the Boosters section of this guide 3.2 - Made some minor changes to the Trivia section and added some info that I found along the way 3.5 - Game Dev Story has a recent update for the iPhone and they have added Game Center support. This news was brought to me by Darren Tan (phazer). Also Jake K have added an observation on getting 40/40; Iain Hewitt and Stuart Mckenzie have contributed to the Trivia section and this update will include these informations. With the help of Darren, I have updated this guide with an Achievement section. phazer has also brought up an issue with the new Game Center support which I will include in the FAQS section 4.0 - I have decided to group all the contributors together because there is going to be a really long list (thanks so much for everyone who sent me e-mails to give me feedbacks and stuff, I really appreciate it!) Taking this opportunity, the Trivia section has got some update with thanks to the following contributors, Pasha Kagan; Stuart Fryd; Duc-Nhi; TelegraphRevolution; Dan Amrich; Adam Shive; Shivam Josho and Zachary Phillipps (Zack) for all the e-mails with all the information! Thanks so much! I apologise for the late updates. Their information will be added on the Trivia section and FAQS' gameplay tips 4.5 - Drizzt has sent me some observation for seating arrangements which I will be adding into the "FAQs" section. Thank you Drizzt! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III) GETTING STARTED ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We will not go through how to unlock genres and types or the combination as there is already a fabulous guide on that by Hello_Ma which you can refer to should you need any information regarding the above-mentioned. We will talk about the various options and the things you see on your game screen. How to get things started and what you should do to enjoy this game. Now that you got your own office, you must take note that your very first office allows you to have up to 4 staffs. You will start out with 2 staffs; S. Presso, Writer; and Newb Ownerton, Coder. Both of which are Level 1. I would suggest you keep the two of them until you get your new office, which can hold up to 6 staffs before switching them out. So you got your office, your coffee, your personal sexy secretary and your 2 staffs. What's next? Read on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE MENUS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this section, we will proceed to explain what are some of the options that will be available to you and what each of them does. "Capital Until Year 20" will show you the highest amount of money you have earned until year 20 and the name of the company who managed to nab the high score for highest capital. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V) GAME MECHANICS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What this section does would be to help you in understanding what each of the little things in this game does. Understanding most, if not all of it, will grant you the ability to create better games and to increase your scores and units that you will be able to sell. Each time you play this game, you might have a mixed perception on how it should be played. I tend to entertain myself by creating games with really ridiculous names to win "Game of the Year" or the other various awards. I also aim to create the worst possible game ever and try to get as many "Worst Game" award as possible when I get bored because I'd think this is even harder to get than "Game of the Year". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STATS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stats are what makes a game better and throwing in all the necessary little bits and pieces for you to make a game with lots of hypes. Most of what you read here can be found inside the in-game manual. But in case you don't want to scroll through the manual while playing the game and want something to refer to. Programming - All-around stat that affects development points and add bonuses to Proposal and Game Art. The higher this is, the better your staff will contribute when selected to write the game proposal and the overall development points. Scenario - Allows you to make creative games and get more Research Data. Creative games will earn you a hit. Graphics - Affects the number of development points staff contributes. I would think this would contribute to the graphics portion during development. Sound - Affects the number of development points staff contributes. This would affect the sound development in the midst of the game production. Energy - Development work and staff training decreases energy. Staff that runs out of energy will go home to rest. It can be restored if you have Dead Bull. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OFFICE LEVEL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Initially, your office can only hold up to 4 staffs. That's very little when you progress further into the game and the better consoles that you develop would require a lot more manpower to ensure that your game is a hit. When your money reaches a certain point, your sexy secretary will prompt you and ask if you would like to upgrade your office. Here is a small list or your reference: OL | SCap | CTU | Target ---|-------|------------|------------ 1 | 4 | Default | Default 2 | 6 | $600.0k | $800.0k 3 | 8 | $2,500.0k | $5,000.0k Legends: OL = Office Level SCap = Staff Capacity, the amount of staffs you can have in your office CTU = Cost To Upgrade, the amount you would need to spend to upgrade your office Target = The amount of money you have to have in order for your secretary to give you the option to switching to a bigger office Upgrade your office as soon as possible, the more staffs you have, the better it will serve you in your quest to creating the ultimate game. The more workers you have would also mean more contribution to development points and to hasten the completion of contract jobs. I'm assuming that the option of upgrading your office also comes with the amount of games that your company have created. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HIRING STAFFS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are many methods that can be used to hire more staffs. Each one allowing you to get more interviewees. The more you invest, the more choices of potential employees you can get. Here's a breakdown of how many interviewees your secretary will be able to get and how much the method cost. Method: | Cost: | Number of possible | | interviewees: ------------------|------------|-------------------- ------------------Office Level 1-------------------- Word of Mouth | $50.0k | 2 - 3 Magazine Ad | $120.0k | 4 - 5 Online Ad | $550.0k | 4 - 5 ------------------Office Level 2-------------------- Vocational School | $800.0k | 6 - 7 Open House | $1,800.0k | 8 - 10 ------------------Office Level 3-------------------- Hollywood Agent | $3,5000.0k | 12 - 14 The test is done with only 1 staff left in the office. One difference between the Magazine Ad and Online Ad that I observed is that Online Ad has a slightly better staff for selection. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Training increases your staff's stats, but they also decreases them. Training is useful when you want to increase game development points. Training also consumes energy. Training is essential not only because it increases your staff's stats, but it also unlocks game Types and Genres. These 2 are extremely important when you want to create a greater variety of games. Genres and Types are not simply unlocked via training but also when your staff meets a certain level requirement. Example, you may need a Level 2 Writer who goes for a "Reading" training to unlock the "Fantasy" genre. Method: | Cost: | P: | Sc: | G: | So: | PC: -----------|-----------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- --------------------Office Level 1------------------- Stroll | $30.0k | | + | + | | -2 Reading | $30.0k | + | + | | | -2 Movie | $50.0k | | | + | + | -2 Anime | $70.0k | + | + | + | + | -3 Game | $100.0k | ++ | | + | | -3 --------------------Office Level 2------------------- Jogging | $120.0k | + | | | + | -4 Pinball | $80.0k | - | - | - | - | -5 Meditate | $90.0k | + | + | + | + | -5 Concert | $160.0k | + | | | + | -3 Net Surf | $280.0k | ++ | + | -- | | -4 Museum | $300.0k | + | ++ | ++ | -- | -4 --------------------Office Level 3------------------- College | $550,0k | -- | + | | | -6 Lab Study | $800.0k | ++ | -- | + | + | -7 Short Trip | $1,050.0k | ++ | ++ | + | + | -9 Long Trip | $2,500.0k | + | ++ | ++ | ++ | -11 Legends: P = Programming Sc = Scenario G = Graphics So = Sound PC = Power Cost + = Increases stat - = Decreases stat ++ = Further increases stat -- = Further decreases stat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DEVELOPING GAMES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Developing games is as easy as selecting the option, "New Game"! Viola! Then...comes the complication of actually creating a game that sells. Developing a game would mean you have to first choose the genre and type. A good combination would allow your staffs to feel inspired and contribute more, which simply means that your game is going to sell better! We do not have much to offer when it comes to developing games, although we do have a couple of game-play strategies contributed by a couple of users. Initially, you will only have a few genre and types. Genre can be unlocked when you level up your staff's job classes and earning or unlocking new job classes. Upon discovery of genres and types, you will be able to create a wider variety of games. Each game combination will result in whether or not the game will be sold successfully, but advertising also comes into play. To determine if your game will sell well, look at the Hype and Fame located on the bottom of your game screen when you are developing a game. Fame and Hype can be increased (till a certain limit) with advertisement. Another factor that will determine if your game will sell well is when your secretary tells you that your game is being chosen as a top title for a certain console or when fans start writing mails to you telling you they love your game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DEVELOPING CONSOLES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The option to develop consoles will not be unlocked until your office is at level 3. After which you have to have AT LEAST ONE HARDWARE ENGINEER, in order for you to be able to make your own console. Creating consoles is a very time consuming thing, you will lose a bit of your fan base but when you are done with it. You can earn a lot more selling games on your console. Below is a list of components: CPU | Cost --------------|------------ 16-bit Chip | $1,000.0k 32-bit Chip | $10,000.0k 64-bit Chip | $50,000.0k Potato Chip* | $90,000.0k Media | Cost --------------|------------ Cartridge | $3,000.0k CD-ROM | $5,000.0k DVD-ROM | $15,000.0k DB-ROM | $35,000.0k Punch Cards** | $93,999.9k Type | Cost --------------|------------ Console | $6,000.0k Portable | $4,000.0k *Potato chip is unlocked when you have 4 Hardware Engineers **Punch Cards is unlocked when you have 6 Hardware Engineers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADVERTISING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Advertising increases the fame of the game you are currently developing as well as increasing your overall fan-base population. The more you advertise, the more fans you have and the more income you will be raking in. The more fans, the better. Advertising Method: | Cost: ---------------------|---------- ---------Office Level 1--------- Magazine Ads | 30.0k Online Ads | 50.0k Radio Ads | 80.0k Demo Distribution | 150.0k Marching Band | 250.0k ---------Office Level 2--------- TV Ads | 350.0k Animal Costumes | 500.0k TV Sponsorship | 650.0k Racecar Sponsorship | 1,200.0k ---------Office Level 3--------- Card Game Contest | 3,300.0k Blimp Sponsorship | 5,500.0k Lunar Writing | 9,900.0k Certain advertising methods will lose its effect when your office levels up, which would mean you have to invest more on better methods to advertise your company. The more you invest, the more fans you would garner. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Every 1st week of the 5th Month (May), the Salesman will visit your office and sell you some items. At first, you may not be able to afford much of anything but I would recommend if this is your first time playing through to have at least a booster and to have multiple "Career Change Manual". The Career Change Manual is important no matter how many times you have played this game because this item will allow you to change your staff to other career classes. ############################################################################### BOOSTERS ############################################################################### Boosters are great when you're starting out because they will increase certain development points contribution which will make your game sell better, get rid of bugs or motivate your staff to contribute more overall Fun Boost - "Use Research Data to boost Fun." Creativity Boost - "Use Research Data to boost Creativity." Graphics Boost - "Use Research Data to boost Graphics." Sound Boost - "Use Research Data to boost Sound." Bug Spray - "Use Research Data to find bugs." Self-Help Book - "Use Research Data to help motivate." With each purchase made, boosters are going to get more and more expensive. Here is a compilation of how much they'd cost with each purchase. Office | | | | | | Level | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th --------|---------|---------|---------|-----------|-----------|----------- 1 | $200.0k | $300.0k | $400.0k | $800.0k | $2,200.0k | $5,000.0k 2 | $350.0k | $450.0k | $550.0k | $950.0k | $2,350.0k | $5,150.0k 3 | $700.0k | $800.0k | $900.0k | $1,300.0k | $2,700.0k | $5,500.0k I'd recommend buying only 1 or 2 of these boosters, my favourite would be Creativity Boost and Self-Help Book. Added information with special thanks to Bryan "BMW": In order for boosters to be used efficiently, they should be used by staff with relevant career classes rather than relevant stats. Based on Bryan's observations, a "Key Job" (the relevant career class) will net you 18-22 points while other jobs will give about 8-11 even if the relevant stat is higher than the Key Job. Using it twice on a Key Job would net you 8-11 while 1-5 for other jobs. A third time would give you 0 points regardless of whoever is using the boost. Using the same person in one development cycle or from the last development cycle will have no impact. It is adviced that you do not stack your staff with just a few types of jobs for them to be used properly. Fun Boost - Key Job: Coder Creativity Boost - Key Job: Writer Graphics Boost - Key Job: Designer Sound Boost - Key Job: Sound Engineer Bug Spray and Self Help Books have yet to be discovered if they have a Key Job for them to be used effectively. ############################################################################### REPLENISHABLE ITEMS ############################################################################### These items are bought and used, you would need to restock if you want to use them again. I would ignore Dead Bull but some would disagree saying it will help to increase your overall development points contributed by your staffs. Stock up on the Career Change Manual, lots of it. Dead Bull - "Recharges staff & boosts research." Career Change Manual - "Change one staff member's job." Office | Level | Price --------|--------- 1 | $50.0k 2 | $200.0k 3 | $550.0k ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GAMEDEX ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gamedex takes place every 7th Month (July). It's an event that you can spend money on to gain extra fame, except it isn't calculated and added to your current number of fans. Supposedly the more you splurge on this event, the better your next game sells. Here is a break down of the cost: Method: | Cost: --------------------|---------- Don't attend show | - Don't hire anyone | 150.0k Use costumes | 600.0k Hire booth babes | 2,500.0k Hire a guest star | 7,000.0k ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI) CAREERS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Changing career for your staff is extremely important. Each job will allow you to undertake certain task when developing a game. The key factor is that no staff should take on the same job more than two times in a row. An example would be if Mister X is writing the game proposal for Game #99, he should not be given the job of writing the game proposal again for Game #100. Rotate the tasks around. If you are questioning the reason why it is necessary to rotate tasks and to ensure that the same job is not given to the same person each time. Lets see...If you notice each time your staff is contributing to her or his task, it comments each time she or he performs the task. The number of times it contributes to the game depends on the stats as well as the repetitiveness of the task that is being assigned. To ensure that your staff give it their all, their stats for the assigned task must be high and the job must not have been assigned to them for the previous game that you developed. You may take note of the exploit used in this case. For each time you level up, the staff will have an increment of 20% for their salary. A heavy price to pay when they reach high level, especially when you unlock the Hacker class. Legends: PR = Research Data Required P = Programming Sc = Scenario G = Graphics So = Sound ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CODER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: This is just to up your programming when you level up and also to meet the prerequisites to unlock the director class. Level Up Stats Increment: Level: | PR: | P: | Sc: | G: | So: --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- 2 | 15 | 8 | 0 | 3 | 0 3 | 25 | 9 | 3 | 0 | 0 4 | 40 | 10 | 0 | 1 | 3 5 | 55 | 12 | 4 | 3 | 4 --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- Total | 135 | 39 | 7 | 7 | 7 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WRITER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: You need staff with at least a Level 1 in Writer to be able to write Game Proposals, or you would have to end up outsourcing. This is important to throw in the "Fun" factor into the game and to get more people to buy your game. Level Up Stats Increment: Level: | PR: | P: | Sc: | G: | So: --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- 2 | 15 | 0 | 12 | 0 | 5 3 | 20 | 0 | 10 | 3 | 6 4 | 30 | 7 | 8 | 3 | 0 5 | 50 | 3 | 12 | 4 | 3 --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- Total | 115 | 10 | 42 | 10 | 14 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DESIGNER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: You need designers to do the graphics for the game portion during development. That is pretty much what they do in this game. Also to boost the graphics during development. Level Up Stats Increment: Level: | PR: | P: | Sc: | G: | So: --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- 2 | 15 | 0 | 2 | 6 | 0 3 | 25 | 3 | 1 | 10 | 0 4 | 28 | 0 | 3 | 6 | 0 5 | 45 | 4 | 2 | 12 | 4 --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- Total | 113 | 7 | 8 | 34 | 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOUND ENGINEER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: They are necessary for you to cover the sound development portion when you are developing a game, to boost the sound portion and to unlock the Producer career class. They also help to unlock other genres and types which you would need to create a whole lot of other games. Level Up Stats Increment: Level: | PR: | P: | Sc: | G: | So: --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- 2 | 30 | 10 | 12 | 0 | 1 3 | 40 | 8 | 10 | 2 | 2 4 | 60 | 9 | 11 | 1 | 4 5 | 88 | 15 | 14 | 3 | 2 --------|-----|-----|-----|-----|----- Total | 218 | 42 | 47 | 6 | 9 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRODUCER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prerequisites: Designer Level 5, Sound Engineer Level 5 Description: Producers are capable of designing and sound engineer, also contributing a lot to the overall development work. Takes a bit of work to unlock but you are going to have to if you want to unlock much better careers. The only way you can ever create a console is when you have at least one hardware engineer. They take a lot of work to train but it is well worth the effort. Your own console will never die out like the others and you can gain so much more profit than to make games for another console. Hackers are the most capable of all the other career classes for obvious reasons, not only will you get a very good stat boost when you change to this job but they usually contribute a lot more in development work. However, HACKERS CANNOT CREATE A CONSOLE. Creation of consoles are solely the work of a Hardware Engineer or a team of Hardware Engineers. Having a party of Hackers does not allow you to create consoles of any sort. You may browse through the list and see whom you can pick as a potential employee because you are going to need the best to create the best games. The difference between In-house and Outsource employees are that In-house are the staffs which you have hired and Outsource are employed only to do a specific task and that's it. You do not need to pay any money (other than the usual salary every start of April) for In-house, but you do have to pay if you choose to Outsource your task to a freelancer. Special characters are unlocked after a period of time (or by meeting a certain requirement which I have yet to uncover). Only they have an additional description called "Default Career". I have repeatedly tried to hire new employees in order to create this list so do let me know if I have missed out on anyone. Thanks much! Characters are sorted based on their default career. Legends: (In-house) Name = Name of character Stats = Default stats of character (Programming / Scenario / Graphics / Sound) Default Career = A special character's default career (only for special characters!) Default Level = Default level of the staff Additional Career/s = Any additional / learnt careers and levels (if any) - C = Coder, W = Writer, De = Designer, - SE = Sound Engineer, Di = Director, P = Producer, - HE = Hardware Engineer, H = Hacker Energy Level = Energy level of character, the more, the better! Contract Fee = Basic cost needed to hire potential staff Quote = A brief description by your secretary (?) about potential staff Example: Name: Chuck Norris Stats: 9,001 / 9,001 / 9,001 / 9,001 Default Career: Martial Artist Default Level: 5 Additional Career/s: C-5, W-5, De-5, SE-5, Di-5, P-5, SE-5, HE-5 Energy Level: Godly Contract Fee: $9001.0k Quote: "It's over 9000!" It means that the potential employee Chuck Norris has a stat of 9,001 to each of his attributes. Start out as a Level 5 Martial Artist. He also has a Level 5 in each of his other careers and has a Godly Energy Level, allowing him to put in more effort for development points and to be able to earn more training before he has to rest. His contract fee is $9,001.0k, the amount of which you must have on hand before you can hire him, followed by the quote your secretary will mention. (Outsource) Name = Name of freelancer Stats = Default stats of character (Programming / Scenario / Graphics / Sound) Fee = Fee required to enlist freelancer's help Quote = A brief description by your secretary (?) about potential staff ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IN-HOUSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Without further ado, here is the list of all the hire-able characters! ############################################################################### CODER ############################################################################### Name: Newb Ownerton Stats: 18 / 8 / 8 / 3 Default Level: 1 Energy Level: Low Contract Fee: $40.0k Quote: "Previously designed mini-games." Feel free to e-mail me questions and I could add them to this section and share it with everyone, proper credits will be given. Have fun reading! Q. Do you have any gameplay tips? A. Nope, but WasabiLinus, pillerofautumn and Mike Flynn has some tips for this. Also added would be some tips from Adam Shive. WasabiLinus's suggestion: Start off by taking contract jobs until you have a team consist of a coder, a writer, a designer and a sound engineer. Train them (preferably using Anime) to level up their skills. It is advisable to train them once / twice in the other catergories to unlock new genres. Timing of your game release to match up with the GameDex (every July!) can boost your sales by 100%. pillerofautumn's suggestion: Do contract jobs for the first year, hire the cheapest staffs until all 4 positions are filled. When enough money is made, hire better staffs and get more expensive help. Level them up but do not train them (except Coder and Writer to unlock more game types). Create something with a good combination like RPG and Fantasy. It should get 5 from the reviewers and should be in Top 10 for sales. Repeat until you upgrade to a new office and buy cheap help using "Word of Mouth" to fill the seats and then move to hiring the more expensive staffs. Start training your staffs to create higher quality games and earn a lot more money. Mike Flynn's suggestion: (this is due to the recent update for the game) As the recent update was created to prevent you from abusing the known glitch. Which is to hire staffs for free when you have all the seats filled up. It is best that you hire them right before releasing a game as this will help you in regaining your losses immediately. Adam Shive's suggestion: Francoise Bloom is noticed to be the worst, laziest and most unreliable character as she'll often write proposals with a single-digit stat even though her stats are in the 800 range. Adam Shive does not recommend out sourcing jobs for the first few months as in the second year, the government will pay for the salaries of your staffs. Use this to your advantage. "Amazing!" pairing is important when you first start out. Also note that "Anime" is the best training early and late game. Adam also notes that sequels are automatically given 50 "Fun" points. Also during a console development phase, you can switch out your Hardware Engineer to another job class as they are only needed to initiate the console and need not stay the same class throughout the process. More fans can be gained after year 15 by pairing unexpected genres and types. Adam also suggest not always hiring celebrities during GameDex as the use of celebrity option makes the fans bored so switch around each time you choose to attend GameDex. Justin's suggestion: Justin observed that the reason perhaps Francoise Bloom wasn't doing as good as she is supposed to is because Adam probably used her too much. The best way to get her to be good again is to give her a break from doing the writing, music and graphics. After Francoise rested enough, she should be able to churn out great stats for the games. Justin mentioned that the best way to get good stats would be to train your next worker a lot. Always train your workers so that each of them would contribute good stats. Q. Why do we have to move the seats? How relevant is it? A. Drizzt was nice enough to e-mail me his observation. Drizzt noticed that often enough, employees will get up to talk to one another. This will generate research points. Right? Right. But Drizzt also noticed that only specific people will talk to specific people, they don't talk to everyone. Thus you should observe who talks to who most and place them close to each other. This will save time for them to walk and generate research points. Thank you Drizzt for this awesome observation! This is a useful way to optimize your office. Q. Any exploits? A. Yup, you may refer to the Cheats section of GameFAQs for the exploits. However, I was alerted by Mike Flynn that a recent update was made to the Android version of Game Dev Story. The update prevents you from abusing the glitch of hiring staffs for free. Q. Is it recommended? A. WasabiLinus and pillerofautumn did mention using the glitch / exploit to make the game a tad easier. I use it unintendedly (while hiring staffs). Q. What's the best way to unlock game types? A. A tip would be to make one character your "main" character that will be used to unlock the game types. Lets say we take Mister X, since he is a level 5 Coder. Have Mister X go through each type of training at least once. Then use the Career Change Manual, change him to another class and have him go through each type of training again. Keep doing this for each of the classes but ensure that he is level 5 as some of the game types will only be unlocked when you surpassed a certain level requirement. Since level 5 is the maximum level per class, it is the best time for you to let your character go through with the training. Q. How do I get Hardware Engineer? Or Director? Or Producer? I mean, my characters have level 5! A. Your one character must have mastered the required classes. Meaning say Mister X has a level 5 in Coder and Designer and Grizzly Bearington has a level 5 in Writing and Designer. The Director class won't be unlocked. It will only be unlocked when Mister X achieved a level 5 as Writer AND Coder before Mister X can change into a Director. Q. There are a couple of things missing from your guide? A. I know there are some information missing and our guide can be further improved. Please feel free to e-mail your queries and suggestions or any information that I might have missed out because we will add them into this guide, whether it be credits, game-play or stats correction. Thank you! Q. You said the salesman arrives on the first week of Month 5 (May). But he arrived at week 2, could you explain? A. For some reason, it takes a week for him to walk from the entrance to your desk. Q. I got a hacker and a writer, and a director. But why can I only select my writer and director for Game Proposal? A. Your hacker is probably hired directly than trained properly. A classic example would be Francoise Bloom. Francoise Bloom may be a hacker but unfortunately does not have at least a Level 1 as Writer, which means that Francoise Bloom cannot be involved in writing a Game Proposal unless trained in that specific area via Career Change Manual. Q. How do you get 40/40 or Game of the Year? A. I have nooo idea, but if you do, please send me an e-mail and let me know. I got like 500 for Fun, 300 Creativity, 250 for Graphics and 250 for Sound but I didn't get 40/40 nor Game of the Year while my other games which have a lower attribute got GOTY and 40/40. So I really don't know what causes it or if it is completely random. Jake's observation: Jake has observed that this could be a completely random thing as his example states that he created a game, saved it and got his rating. After which he would quit and reload the save file only to get a different rating. Q. I heard that the new Game Center features got some problems! What are they? A. It seems that some of the achievements are not updated if you continue your game after the update. Instead, you need to restart your game from Year 1 for the achievements to unlock properly. Otherwise your game will crash usually after the Game Awards as it is trying to update your achievements into your Game Center account. Thanks to phazer for this information. He had also adviced that you re-fulfill the criteria to unlock the achievements as they are not backwards compatible. Q. Wait, what company is what? What? What are the puns and wordplay, dude? A. Do a search on Google, Yahoo or Wikipedia for the company names with the suggestions or verified conclusion that is on the Trivia section. It will then assist you in identifying the puns and etc. Hope this helps! It has been a lot of fun trying to figure out what are the puns and the real life equivalence of the consoles. A lot of thanks to the contributors to have sent me e-mails regarding their observation and findings of the puns too! This guide is nothing without all the contributions. I'm merely compiling them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XII) CREDITS AND DISCLAIMER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This guide is made possible with special thanks to: ==Company== (in alphabetical order) Kairosoft - For creating this addictive game ==Website== (in alphabetical order) GameFAQs - For hosting this guide Super Cheats - For hosting this guide Wikipedia - For the ability to read up on old news / game consoles ==Main Contributing Authors & Proof Readers== (in alphabetical order) *Blazing_Paladin *Chanthas *climhazzard99 *Crack Addict *pillerofautumn *Time_Child *WasabiLinus *zeroexe93 ==Contributors== (in alphabetical order) *Aaron Evans *Adam Shive *Bryan "BMW" (chylde_roland) *Dan Amrich *Darren Tan (phazer) *Drizzt *Duc-Nhi *Edward Zhang *Freddie *HarunaAkatsuki *Iain Hewitt *Jake K *Justin *Justin Mosovsky *Kevin (Gnoll Guy) *Mike Flynn *Pasha Kagan *Patrick (Coroloro) *Piers McCarney *Shivam Josho *Stuart Fryd *Stuart Mckenzie *TelegraphRevolution *Zachary Phillipps (Zack) ==Special Thanks== (in alphabetical order) carbon210 - For taking the time to uncover the list of everything Goldfinger_Z and SubArbore - For mentioning how to unlock Potato Chip and Punch Card ipwnu713 - Identifying the consoles equivalents ==People== My family - For the Yays! in life Tracy Choo - For being a wonderful girlfriend Jeffrey Laderas - For sending me your copy of Romancing SaGa for the PS2!
