001. General Information
---------------------------------------------------------

This is a walkthrough for the iOS game called "Choice of
the Dragon". It is a text-based adventure game, in which
you control a dragon. You can also play this game online,
through the developer's website.

Thanks to SSt, for the dragon picture seen at the top of
this guide.

002. Walkthrough
---------------------------------------------------------

002a. Prologue
---------------------------------------------------------

The game begins with a brief tutorial. A knight is
charging up the slope, preparing to attack you. You can
react in one of four ways. Tap the option you want to
select it, then press "next" to go to the next screen.

No matter which option you pick, the attack is
successful. You are given three new options. You can kill
the knight now, you can let him live to warn others about
you, or you can ignore him because he doesn't matter.
Pick whichever option you like.

The dragon deals with the knight in the manner that you
chose, and the game moves on to discussing the dragon.
You can pick one of three names for the dragon character.
If you don't like any of those names, you can choose
"These names are all terrible!" and type in a name of
your choice. After that, you get to determine the gender
of your dragon.

The knight's attack was inevitable, because you kidnapped
the local princess. If you want, you can pick the third
option, which said you kidnapped a prince, not a
princess.

After that, you continue creating your dragon character.
You get to choose its color, number of legs, head type
and wing type. Alternately, you can skip the character
creation by choosing "can we just get on to the
smashing?".

The game returns to the kidnapped princess (or prince).
What are you doing with your captive? You can decide if
you kidnapped her for companionship, dinner, or ransom.

If you choose dinner, the dragon eats the princess
instantly. If you choose companionship or ransom, you get
another choice. Do you eat the princess or let her go?
Pick whichever option you prefer.

Now that the princess is taken care of, it's time to
focus on your personality. In this game, you have various
stats, which you can see by pressing "show stats". These
stats are...

1. Brutality (strength and cruelty) or finesse (precision
and aerial maneuverability)
2. Cunning (intelligence and trickery) or honor (honesty
and trustworthiness)
3. Disdain (for people who are beneath you) or vigilance
(against any insult from people who are beneath you)

Your choices so far have affected your stats. For
example, if you killed the knight, you are more vigilant.
If you let him go, you have more disdain. With the
princess, you gain honor if you let her go after
collecting the ransom.

Now for the dragon's backstory. When the dragon was
younger, did it prefer to read or hunt? Reading increases
cunning and finesse, while hunting increases brutality
and honor.

Your mother drove you away from your homelands. Did you
seek revenge or not? If you sought revenge, your cunning
and vigilance increase. If you ignored the opportunity to
get revenge, your disdain and honor increase.

After this, your dragon flies away and sees a dying half-
breed. This half-breed has an attractive magical golden
shield. You can either steal it, or wait for the half-
breed to die before stealing it. Killing him gets you
brutality and vigilance, while waiting for him to die
gives you disdain and finesse. You get the shield in both
scenarios.

Another dragon named Axilmeus sees you with the shield
and attempts to take it. You can give it to him, fight
him, or try to hide the shield from him. Fighting gives
you brutality and honor, giving the shield away gives you
disdain, and trying to hide the shield gives you cunning
and finesse.

No matter which option you pick, Axilmeus takes the
shield and destroys it in front of you. Then the prologue
comes to an end.

002b. Chapter One
---------------------------------------------------------

The chapter begins with an elder dragon chasing you away.
You decide to form your own treasure hoard, in a cave on
top of a hill. It looks like the perfect place to start a
hoard.

As you approach, you meet some goblins. You can kill them
all (for brutality and vigilance) or let them go (for
disdain and finesse). Either way, the goblins become your
loyal minions.

One day, you notice the goblins worshipping a god with
their finest foods. You can approve of this action (for
honor), ignore it (for disdain) or try to stop them. The
gods are upset if you approve of the action. If you upset
the gods in chapters one, five and six, they kill you.

Later on, you notice the goblins fighting each other to
the death. You can stop this (for increased vigilance and
decreased brutality), encourage this (for brutality), or
ignore it (for disdain).

Goblins are good and all, but isn't it about time you
conquered the humans? You can pick whichever reason you
have for conquering the humans, before starting the
mission.

You can conquer the humans in several ways.

1. Attack the nearby village, for whatever reason you
want to. You can kill everyone there (for brutality and
infamy), you can demand their surrender (for finesse and
less infamy), or you can destroy a few buildings. After
destroying the buildings, you can make them grovel (for
infamy and brutality), or you can ask for challengers.
Eat them, set them on fire or shred them apart for
brutality and infamy.

2. Go to the queen. When you do, a knight in shining
armor appears. He gives a speech. You can fight him or
let him finish. If you let him finish, you can fly in the
air to easily avoid him, or you can stay on the ground to
fight him. In the fight, you can kill him or let him go.

The queen appears after this. You can eat her (for
brutality and infamy), or command her to surrender her
kingdom.

Command her using brutality, for brutality and infamy.
Alternately, you can cleverly command her, which results
in the Queen asking for time to think. Force a decision
for infamy, or give her some time for infamy.

3. You can go to the nearby merchant's pass. If you do
this to control the kingdom's trade, you get cunning. At
the pass, you see several merchant wagons by the queen's
toll booth.

You can swoop down on the caravan. You take everything of
value from them. What about the merchants? You can let
them go (for finesse and infamy), eat most of them (for
infamy and brutality) or you can eat them all for infamy.

You can set up your own toll. You get to decide how much
you charge. You can charge the same toll (for finesse and
cunning), a heavier toll (for finesse and cunning), a
toll as high as they can afford or the highest possible
toll. You only get a little money if you pick the two
highest tolls.

How long will you keep the tolls going? The higher your
vigilance is, the longer you can keep the tolls going.
You can get disdain and honor by leaving after the first
toll collection.

You can be sneaky and scare the toll takers. Demand half
of their tolls for the rest of their lives (for finesse
and wealth), or demand their entire toll right now. The
toll keeper argues. You can scare him into agreeing by
showing your teeth, you can convince him to agree by
talking about the nature of feudalism (for finesse), or
you can eat him for brutality.

When you eat the toll taker, you can seize the caravan,
set up your own toll, or leave.

4. You can send a goblin to the nearest Queen. The goblin
will not return. You can forget about the goblin for more
disdain, or you can go to the village in search of it
(for vigilance).

In the village, you can sneak away (for disdain) or
reveal yourself to the two men. You can kill one man (for
brutality and vigilance), both men (for cunning and
vigilance), or you can spare them both (for disdain).

5. After picking one option, you can return to your lair.
If you do this, you get disdain. Eventually, a knight
appears at your lair. The knight has been sent by the
queen to slay you.

You can kill the knight for vigilance, ignore the knight
for disdain, or you can demand a tribute from the humans,
in exchange for treating them more kindly.

A few knights come over the next several months. You can
choose to storm the kingdom's castle (see option 2
above), or you can continue waiting for the humans to
come to you.

If you wait for the humans to come, Queen Juliet arrives
with an army. You can demand her surrender and tribute
(for infamy), you can quietly explain the situation to
her (for infamy), or you can kill them all (for
brutality, cunning and infamy).

When you explain to the Queen, she asks for time to
think. Force a decision for infamy, or give her some time
for infamy.

---

The chapter ends, once you deal with the human queen. The
humans now pay you tribute, as the ruler of the land!

002c. Chapter Two
---------------------------------------------------------

Several years later, Axilmeus appears on your lands. You
can ignore him for disdain (and less wealth), or you can
attack him directly (for vigilance and wealth).

A battle is unavoidable. You have six ways to deal with
the threat of Axilmeus. You will be injured, if you pick
a bad method of dealing with him.

1. Wait for him to arrive. If your disdain is not high
enough, this strategy fails.

2. Set up an ambush for him. You can choose to use your
hoard to lure him out, or you can pick another option. If
your cunning is not high enough, this strategy fails.

3. Confront him in the air, using your aerial skills. If
your finesse is not high enough, this strategy fails.

4. Just head in his general direction and attack him.
This gives you brutality and honor, but it also fails to
give you an advantage in the fight.

5. Trick Axilmeus into fighting an enemy. The enemy is a
nearby wizard. You can lure Axilmeus there in a fight
(which fails) or trick Axilmeus into going there, by
spreading rumors about the wizard's wealth. If your
cunning is not high enough, this strategy fails.

6. You can bribe Axilmeus into leaving, by giving up your
gold.

---

If you fight Axilmeus, you can kill him immediately (for
honor and less brutality), you can play with him before
killing him (for brutality, infamy and vigilance, with
less honor) or you can let him live (for honor, less
brutality and less infamy).

002d. Chapter Three
---------------------------------------------------------

You hear rumors of heroes in the area. There are five
ways you can deal with them.

1. Gather information about them. You learn that they are
pretty tough and cannot be ignored. Pick one of the other
options.

2. Challenge them to a duel. You can fight them directly,
for infamy, or you can lure them into a trap, for
failure.

3. Kidnap a princess to lure them out. The princess
offers you riches to let her go. If you accept the offer,
she leaves and doesn't pay. On the bright side, the
heroes go away.

If you decline her offer, the heroes arrive. You can
accept their challenge, kill them (for infamy), or kill
the princess. With the challenge, you can attack directly
or set a trap. The trap will fail.

If you kill the princess, the heroes realize their quest
has failed, and they look crestfallen. You can let them
run (for disdain and infamy), kill them all (for infamy),
or kill all but one (for cunning and high infamy, as the
one who lives is the bard).

4. Scare them off, for more cunning and vigilance.

5. Ignore them. If your infamy is low enough, this
strategy works. Otherwise, they come to fight you. You
can accept the challenge for more infamy, or you can
attempt to lure them into a trap. Your trap fails,
because you ignored them, and your infamy greatly
decreases when the heroes trounce you.

---

When the heroes are done for, or when they defeat you,
the chapter ends.

002e. Chapter Four
---------------------------------------------------------

A goblin arrives in your lair. He wants to go
adventuring, in hopes of returning and adding treasure to
your hoard.

1. Eat him. This brings an immediate end to the chapter.

2. Test his prowess. He's a little better than average.
At this point, you can pick one of the other three
options.

3. Grant him your blessing.

4. Forbid him to go questing. He returns a week later. At
this point, you can eat him or grant your blessing.

---

If you grant your blessing, you can help in various ways.

1. Give him real weapons. After doing this, you can pick
one of the other options.

2. Send him towards Axilmeus (if Axilmeus still lives).
He doesn't kill Axilmeus, but he annoys him.

3. Send him towards the kingdom's capitol. You can do
nothing (in which case they kill him), tell the people in
the capital to kill the goblin, or tell them to honor him
as a hero (in which case he goes to a nearby kingdom).

4. Send him to a nearby kingdom. The goblin dies, after
starting a minor incident in the nearby kingdom.

5. Let him fend for himself. He goes to the nearby
kingdom.

002f. Chapter Five
---------------------------------------------------------

The humans come, saying that the nearby kingdom is
attacking them. One insolent knight dares to say that the
land and animals belong to the humans. You can ignore him
for disdain, lecture him on feudalism (for vigilance and
cunning), kill him for vigilance, brutality and infamy,
or kill them all for vigilance, infamy and brutality.

The chapter ends if you kill them all.

If you pick a different answer, you can help them, ask
for more information, or you can let them fight on their
own. If they fight on their own, you get disdain. If you
ask for information, you get cunning. You can ask about
the enemies' threat (for vigilance), their power (for
finesse) or their loot (for cunning). Once you ask about
more information, you can help the humans or ignore them
to end the chapter.

If you choose to fight, you can be in the center of the
battle, or you can ambush the enemies. The ambush
increases cunning and finesse, while being in the center
of the battle increases brutality and honor.

You fly over enemy territory, and you see a crude effigy
of yourself. Ignore it for disdain, or attack it for
vigilance. It is a trap, so if you attack it, you are
injured.

You loot the enemy's city, and you have the opportunity
to loot the temple of the gods. You get 4000 extra gold
if you loot the temple, but you will make the gods angry
with you. If you upset the gods in chapters one, five and
six, they kill you.

002g. Chapter Six
---------------------------------------------------------

The humans have set up a shrine, in your honor. You can
destroy the shrine to please the gods. You can also
ignore the shrine or encourage their worship.

If you ignore them or encourage them, the humans will
come to you in a few weeks, with a valuable statue. They
ask you to bless it. You can take it for yourself, which
gives you a little money, or you can bless it, to get
more money.

If you bless the statue, you are asked if you think
you're a god. If you say yes, you upset the gods. If you
say no, you get more cunning and wealth, and the gods are
pleased.

If you upset the gods in chapter one, five and six, they
kill you.

002h. Chapter Seven
---------------------------------------------------------

You can choose to find a mate in this chapter, or you can
skip to the next chapter.

Pick the gender of your mate, if you want. Send humans to
scout out the situation, or go out hunting for a mate.

If you go out hunting, you need to express your concern
that your hoard will be looted. The amount of concern you
show affects how much treasure is stolen from you. More
concern means you get less treasure stolen.

There are four dragons nearby. Pick a dragon to go after,
then pick an action to impress it. Your success depends
on your statistics.

The dragon to the north likes brutality. Destroy a
village to impress it. The south dragon likes finesse, so
do loop-de-loops to impress it. The west dragon likes
cunning, so challenge it to a game of wits. If you cheat
at the game, your infamy goes down and you fail to get
the mate. The east dragon likes infamy, so spread rumors
about your arrival.

If you impress the dragon, you can spend an evening in
the dragon's lair, or spurn the invitation. If you spurn
the invitation, you can go after another dragon, say that
you're playing hard to get, or give up. If you play hard
to get, you spend an evening with the dragon.

When you find your mate, you can leave the mate (to end
the chapter), you can move to the mate's lair (to end the
story), or you can invite it to live with you, in your
lair. If you do so, the two dragons live happily for a
while. Your mate then goes into hibernation.

002i. Chapter Eight
---------------------------------------------------------

A conjured monster appears in your lair. It says that the
wizard Callax is determined to kill you. You can kill the
monster immediately, or quesiton it. If you quesiton it,
it says that Callax killed three dragons. You can then
kill it, or question it further. Questioning the creature
three times makes it go away.

Once the creature leaves, or when you kill it, you get to
decide how you feel about Callax. You can ask who would
try to kill you, or you can demand vengeance. If you
killed the monster, you can note that it tasted awful.

You have to decide your next step.

1. Try to find out more about the monster. Only a
powerful wizard can summon one.

2. Try to kill Callax. Callax is surprised that you are
here. You can kill him immediately (which results in a
small battle), or find out why he is surprised. If you
ask why he's surprised, you can say "whoops" or kill him.
Either way, he dies, but if you say "whoops", you do not
get injured.

3. Try to talk to Callax. You arrive at the High Tower of
Wizardry. A servant appears. You can demand to see Callax
or ask politely. Either way, Callax comes out. He asks
why you want to see him. Say he tried to kill you, ask
why he tried to kill you, or ask him how many dragons he
has killed. He claims he is innocent.

You can kill him for lying or try to find out more. If
you attack him, he wounds you. If you find out more, it
is revealed that Verimas tried to frame Callax. Either
leave or ask where Vermias is.

4. Find out more about Callax. He's the high mage, he is
fairly proud, and he dislikes rivals. After this, you can
try to talk to him or kill him.

---

When you're done with Callax, you are visited by another
creature. It tells you to arrive at the peak of the
crooked mountain at midnight. You can eat the creature or
ask it a question before eating it.

So, Vermias wants to meet with you. Guess why this is the
case, then decide what to do. Go by yourself, take Callax
with you (if he's alive) or don't go.

If you don't go, you can stay at home or attack Vermias'
tower at the time the meeting is scheduled to take place
(for cunning). If you stay at home, disdain increases. A
large battle will ensue, but you will win unless you are
too injured.

If you decide to bring Callax with you, you can do it by
threatening him or using a good argument (for finesse).

When you go to the mountain to meet Vermias, you see that
Vermias is summoning something. If Callax is there, he
warns you to stop. Ignore him or shoot out fire, and it
is revealed that this was a magical trap. Demons appear.
You can fight them or leave. Fighting them results in an
injury, and leaving only works if you have enough
finesse. The better option is to listen to Callax, which
results in no injuries.

If you went to the mountain by yourself, you need to
destroy the pentagrams before the demons appear.
Otherwise, you're in for a battle.

After the battle on the mountain, you can go home or to
Vermias' tower. Alternately, you could have skipped the
battle and gone straight to the tower.

At Vermias' Tower, you can do four things.

1. Attack the top of the tower. Callax dies if he is with
you at this point. A shadow demon is here, along with
Vermias. You can attack both enemies, which requires
brutality. You can try to escape through the tower, which
requires finesse. If you try to run away, a horrible
battle ensues.

2. Knock the tower down. This is successful if Callax
aids you. Otherwise, a battle ensues. You die if you are
too badly injured.

3. Smash through the bottom of the tower. If you have
enough finesse, this is successful, and you get some
loot. If you do not have enough finesse, you are badly
wounded before you eventually win.

4. Challenge Vermias to battle. Cunning will decrease,
but you win the battle unless you are too injured.

---

If Callax is still alive, you get to decide what to do
with him. Leave him alone, give him some loot (for honor)
or kill him (for less honor).

002j. Chapter Nine
---------------------------------------------------------

You feel like going into hibernation now, but there is a
question of how your hoard will be protected while you
sleep.

If you have enough cunning, you can set up a successful
magic trap. If you have enough finesse, you can prepare a
squadron of elite goblin guards. If you have enough
infamy, you can rely on that to protect your hoard.

You can try to stay awake, but you get tired. If you try
to stay awake a century, you fail. If you try to stay
awake ten or twenty years, your hoard increases a bit. If
you try to stay awake fifty years, your hoard is robbed a
bit. You will then have to pick one of the other options.
