The different opponents become available for battle when you spend cash to unlock their corresponding elevator floor. If you would rather face a variety of opponents than unlock characters you can save your money for the expensive elevator floors by not buying the biography segments.

The first thing you must do to unlock new characters and their special abilities is to purchase ALL of their biography sections. When you have done that you then need to complete a quest for them. You will find unlocking ALL of the biographies is not cheap so it is advised that you first focus on getting a feel for the playstyle of the different characters before concentrating on unlocking one.

The key to getting an Ace is timing, mallet placement and the ferocity you strike the puck with. Keep an eye on your opponent and when you see their mallet move in readiness for your opening shot serve as hard as possible when it's half-way towards the side of the table with the very edge of the mallet. Try to serve an angular shot diagonally towards your opponent for the best chance of getting an ace.

In the early stages of the game you need to make as much money as possible, an easy way to do this is to fight Furry repeatedly using Bet mode. You will find him easy to beat with the required three-point lead, and the higher you can load the stakes, the greater your reward for the time you've invested.
