Game not loading after new community event update

I was going to submit a question to EA but my game won't let me load to get my player user # so I can't fill out the form properly.
Anyway, since this last update for the new community event, for the past two days I have not been able to load my game past the standard blue loading screen. I won't even get a "force quit" error option; my screen just freezes and closes itself. A handful of times, my game has flashed and I could see my Sims, but then it just freezes and quits.
I've tried restarting my phone, doing into my settings to force stop the app, clearing my cache for Sims Freeplay, making sure the app was updated - everything short of deleting the app and reinstalling it, which is the last thing I want.
Is anyone else having trouble with this? I'm pretty sure it's because of the new event. I know I saw my app load something and I thought it was the new community event, but I didn't get to see before my game started acting up.
