When someone comes and helps your farm by filling a crate on your boat or by watering your trees or bushes, you click on their avatar twice, making sure you click it the second time while the envelope is showing on the avatar, this will send them a thank you note. Not all thank you notes contain a gift card. A maximum of five gift cards per day can be received by any one player. You can't just send them to people without them having helped your farm.
