Try to save at least one big word for the end of the stage where you have to spell a word to attack the gem pile. The amount of blue and red gems that you get from the gem pile depends on how big and good the word you spell is. Blues are worth 10 and reds are worth 20.

When you find yourself struggling on a stage you may find it more beneficial to replay an easier earlier stage so you can earn gems to spend on power-ups and healing items before attempting it again.

Make sure you always keep an eye out for the word hints that pop up on the bottom of the screen before each round as these will often tell you about words you wouldn't consider checking for.
