This is done by tapping on a facility and then selecting the 'Level Up' option.

Examining diaries and other written materials at the 'Item' menu will give you plenty of clues.

Listen carefully to what everyone says as there are sometimes clues in the dialogue that will point you in the right direction.

Click the question mark icon that is on the bottom right of the screen to see all the exits and all the clickable objects.

In Casual mode clicking on an object will immediately give you the information or action you need, when you are in Hardcore mode however you will only have the option to inspect or interact with an item when you click on it.

When you are in Casual mode it is possible to get several hints to help you solve your quests by going to your Quest Journel which is the book icon on the bottom left of the screen and clicking on 'Quests'.
