A good strategy is to target the strongest enemy first and focus all your hunters' attacks against it, especially if you are about to match up four or more tokens.
Try not to 'save' healing tokens, it is more beneficial to use them as soon as you need them. Matching up healing tokens will also charge up Val's med gun which can be life saving.
Markov's level 2 skill is 'lightning gun' and is extremely useful to have as it will damage all enemies on-screen and delay their attack by one turn.
Although matching bullets will not charge up your special attack meter it is still worth the trade-off because if you match three bullets all your hunters will be able to attack at once. Note: after the high-powered assault your hunters special skill meters will not charge up.
The longer you play a level the more frequently Monster Tokens will appear, if three or more are matched too many times monsters will attack out of turn. Try to avoid Monster Tokens if possible but take into account that if they are not disposed of they will clog up the board so the best tactic is to make a match every now and again to make some space but if possible avoid making more than three matches.
To increase your chances of survival it is important that you charge up Val to level two and then use her med gun liberally to stay alive. Val's level 2 med gun is capable of restoring one hunter's health by 40%, plus remove status ailments like poison.
Except for a few of the hunters it is not worth the time and effort needed to charge up their special skills to level 3, you will find it more beneficial using the lower-level skills as they can be accessed quicker.
When Hank (the default 'Yellow Hunter') Orbital Barrage skill is active it is very effective at clearing a board of monster tokens. To charge this skill to make it active you need to match enough yellow tokens with a shield emblem stamped on them to reach skill level 3, when fired the laser will derstroy a 9 x 9 grid of tokens.
