Mission 9 - Desert Fortress

Major Alex Hunter
Callsign: Firebird 1-5
Aircraft: F-15C Eagle
Weapon loadout: HSM (36), Multiple Missiles (24), Flares (3)

You'll need to fly low to perform a suprise attack to the insurgents. Follow your squadron and fly through the winding valley until you reach the mission marker. The first set of targets will become visible here. Take them out then more enemy ground targets will be marked. Use the UACV to destroy the targets. Belieive it or not, you're using an attacker-type plane with NO anti-ground weapons/ordnance.

After destroying the intial wave of ground targets, you'll need to take out the enemy bogeys from a nearby airport. Clearing them will allow you to use your UACVs again – but only for a limited time. Destroy as much enemies as you can before time runs out. If that happens, new wave of enemies bogeys will appear. Your ability to use the UACV will be disabled until the bogeys are destroyed. Remember that you must eliminate all bogeys at the soonest time possible otherwise your ground team will suffer tremendous losses. You also need to make sure that your UACV rockets hit the targets or at least very close to them. Otherwise you'll need to repeat the whole process of clearing the skies first before you can use your UACV. Once the assault team breaks through the enemy defenses, wait for a few minutes as they take out the last few remaining targets.

Land your plane to repair and resupply. Thankfully this time, you'll be given with purely anti-ground ordnance. Take off and head to your next objective. This time, you'll need to take out ground forces. Your AGMs and Cluster Bombs are powerful enough to take out several targets in close proximity so make sure to target the ones in the middle of the group. As for cluster bombs, don't bomb too close or you'll also get damage from the explosion.

i too have trouble with this one... trouble is not the enemy and not that they can even shoot me down.. problem is I have cleared all the enemy ground.. and then shoot down air units back to UAV but THERE ARE NO VISIBLE UNITS TO KILL... my gound forces seem to just sit near the narrow pass.. the radar does show two yellow targets but they are NOT on the screen to attack. I have gone round and round shooting down the aircraft, but cant get my ground forces to get moving... WHAT TO DO?!?!? thanks!

Had lots of grief with this one, but it's doable. Come out of the canyon with your Multiple Missiles equipped, they should take out the three fighters right away.
The UACV comes next, then again fighters. And so on.
Try to get the fighters as quickly as possible from as far away as possible with the Multiple Missiles. Then go into dog-fighting mode and don't try to be fancy, just quick. Real quick.
With the UACV, try to concentrate on the targets that are closest to/firing at your forces. Don't waste your shots until AFTER you get the "Objective Complete" message. I still don't know which targets in each UACV wave are the ones you have to destroy for the objective to be completed, but as far as I can tell, you only have to destroy certain enemy targets, not all of them. There is one wave, where you only have to kill three to get the "Objective Complete" message. The game tells you that objective targets have a little star next to yellow brackets, but I never saw any here. Anyway, once you complete the objective in the UACV, shoot off your remaining rockets as quickly as possible and brace for another fighter-wave.

The counter-attack is really not so bad compared to the initial rush, just try to take out the enemies closest to the airstrip first (radar!).

Pay attention to the radio. They are telling you what you need to do. Try to eliminate your targets quickly. Forget about precision on enemy ground units. Focus on barrage attacks, so long as your Air to Surface shots are near the target, you'll get the job done. When you see resistance lined up, sweep the cross-hairs across the enemies while firing rapidly. Reload and repeat.

**Always pay attention to your health, missile lock status, and flares. Be ready to exit at any moment and use your best judgment as to whether you should take the hit from the missile to finish of ground units or evade the oncoming missile.

Take breaks, but don't give up. Worse case scenario, start the mission over. Then keep pushing forward to the next check point.

Best of luck.

I HAVE DA SAME PROBLEM!I HAVE NOTICED THAT IF YOU FLY OVER THE AIR BASE IN THE DIRECTION OF THE RUNWAY AND KEEP GOING, YOU WILL ENTER AN AREA SIMILAR TO THE RED SCREEN THAT COMES UP WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF THE BATTLE AREA. THIS RED SCREEN IS NOT AN OUT OF THE AREA WARNING BUT MORE LIKE A RADAR ALERT. WHEN YOU ENTER THIS AREA THEIR ARE MANY GROUND-TO-AIR INSTALLMENTS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TAKE THEM ALL OUT BUT MAYBE TAKING THEM OUT IS THE KEY. HOPE THIS HELPS. IF ANYONE IS SUCCESFUL IN TAKING OUT THE INSTALLMENTS AND FINDS THIS WAS THE ANSWER PLEASE SHARE!!!!

i got a question, I have completed the surprise attack, and have destroyed all the targets with the uacv within the time given, and all the aircraft, after that my ground team stand by the air base, without doing anything, no enemies around, no more aircraft, all still and quite.

The problem is that i can stay like this for hours, flying around, no possibility to land, no istruction given, nobody around, I hav only got a coupla of friendly planes going around, but nothing happens, it is like this from a few days, I cannot go any further.

can anybody help me? can it be a bug? thank you
