To drop items from your inventory, open up your inventory view, click on the item you wish you drop, hold the mouse button and drag the item off your inventory and out into open space. It'll drop on the ground at your feet.

The easiest way that I have found is to be invisible when you do it. That way you encounter no resistance on your way through and can do it much faster. You can buy a chameleon spell from one of the dark brotherhood characters and enchant 2 rings a necklace and a couple of articles of clothing and be completely un detectable.
