Maracai SideQuests

Now that we have found the landing on the Maracai coast it is time to dig into the local quests!

(2.6.2) Maracai > Storage Barrels from the Wreck
Speaking to Mercutio in the Temple at the beach in Maracai reveals that the Bluecoats have experienced their own difficulties.  He tells you that he will trade with you if you retrieve the Storage Barrels from the beach for him.  There are six barrels in total.  Retrieving them and then turning them over to Mercutio completes this quest and activates your ability to trade with him.

(2.6.3) Maracai > Storage Barrels from the Wreck > Storage Barrels Found
On the right-side beach (facing your ship from the Temple entrance) you will find all six of the storage barrels that Mercutio needs and wants.  Picking the six barrels up and turning them over to Mercutio flags and completes this sub-quest.  Nice one!

(2.6.4) Maracai > Map of Maracai
You learn that Commandant Corrientes has a map of the region that he obtained from the archives in Caldera.  It is possible that we can obtain a copy form him...

(2.6.5) Maracai > The Beast in the Lake
When you reach the camp outside of the Maracai Native Village (by the lake) you will meet Hanu, who will tell you about the Beast in the Lake and warn you -- your offer to help flags this quest!  The Beast in the Lake is actually an Alligator who is, naturally, named "Beast" of course.

(2.6.6) Maracai > The Beast in the Lake > The Beast is Dead
After you kill it that completes the main quest but be sure to return to Hanu to collect a reward and complete this one.

(2.6.7) Maracai > The Deserter
When you talk to the Commandant in the Maracai Village on of the things that he asks you to do is kill the deserter -- Angus -- who as you know is at the Camp near the small beach.  Do it, don't, it is your call...  But if you jump to Garcia's Ship then to the beach and head up the path to Camp you will find him sitting there...  You have a conversation with him and tell him that the Commandant has ordered his death -- you now have a choice to make...  I chose to have him join my party and then head to the main camp to talk to Lt. Valdez -- you can jump to the Old Camp to cut out some of the trip but it is a long hike, and when you reach Valdez he is convinced that we misunderstood the Commandant!

(2.6.8) Maracai > The Deserter > Angus Rescued
You tell Valdez what the Commandant said, and you learn that the man you thought was the Commandant is actually Garcia!  This unlocks the Achievement "Detective" (20 GP) for revealing this deception.  It is starting to make more sense now!  This completes the quest line.

(2.6.9) Maracai > The Peace of the Dead
In the Village you can talk to Malaika to learn about the theft of three idols by some Pirates.  This theft has disturbed her dead ancestors, and she wants you to get the idols back from the pirates who took them.  Doing so and returning them to her completes this quest!

(2.6.10) Maracai > The Peace of the Dead > Plunderers at the Ancestral Grave
When you arrive at the second tomb of the four you need to visit you will encounter a trio of Pirate Grave Robbers -- killing the first one flags this sub-quest, and dispatching the remaining two completes it!

(2.6.11) Maracai > The Peace of the Dead > Grave Idols
As part of the sub-quest series you learn about the Idols from Dara,  That flags and completes this sub-quest.

(2.6.12) Maracai > The Peace of the Dead > Where is Koraka?
Talking to Dara in the Village gives more information about the pirates -- and the fact that her husband has gone missing when he went looking for them.  She wants you to find him and help him if he is not already dead.

(2.6.13) Maracai > Seize Garcia's Ship
Use the dinghy on the small beach where Garcia's Ship is anchored to reach the ship and kill the four pirates that are guarding it to seize it and complete this quest!  Be sure to loot the ship, including the treasure map in Garcia's cabin -- and read his Journal.

(2.6.14) Maracai > Nice and Spicy
The wack sermon that Bones is issuing is making the Natives restless -- we need to shut him up.  The best way to do that if you are not heavily invested in Intimidate is to help Jamila make her soup.  To do that we talk to her by the Voodoo Potion Cauldron at the back of the Village and then head into the highlands where the markers are on the map to get the Fire Peppers.  Return to her and turn them in to get the soup, which we then feed to Bones!

(2.6.15) Maracai > Nice and Spicy > Fire Peppers
The location is marked on the map, and when we arrive we talk to Jamila's apprentice, who gives us the first of the four Fire Peppers to get us started.  The other three are in this area and we only need to harvest them.

(2.6.16) Maracai > Unwanted Sermon
After you meet Bones in the Maracai Village and talk to him twice -- first on the path and then after he gives his sermon -- you offer to help him in order to get him to join the crew.  The point to this quest is to get Bones to shut it -- you can do that in one of two ways...  If your Intimidate is at 90 or above you can use that option; if not you can use the soup from the quest Nice and Spicy you get from Jamila and that will do the trick, completing this quest!

(2.6.17) Maracai > Enemy Pirate Camp
The Enemy Camp and location of the Pirate Black Dog is discovered as you work on the quest Graves of the Ancestors -- and once you find the camp you have to kill Black Dog and his three mates, and then loot their bodies to obtain the Mask you are seeking -- killing the four Pirates completes this quest.

(2.6.18) Maracai > The Graves of the Ancestors
When you find the small Temple with the Golden Mask on an Alter inside you will flag this quest when you try to take the Golden Mask and end up being confronted by one of the Ancestors in Demon Form.  To complete this quest you need to restore the four masks to the four Temples on the island.  Easy-Peasey-Lemon-Squeezy!

(2.6.19) Maracai > The Naked Corpses
Inside the Temple near the lake on the way to the Native Village we find a collection of naked corpses that are something of a mystery.  Examining them flags this quest, and we find that we must solve this mystery!  This quest will resolve as part of the process of completing the quest Deserter.

(2.6.20) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy
This is a major quest line -- actually you can consider it THE major quest line for the Maracai Village for the most part, as it ties everything else together.  You begin the series by talking to the Chief, and that will restructure the existing quests to match that listed here.

(2.6.21) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > Become Halmak of the Maracai
When you meet Zaalu upon exiting the cave and entering the Maracai Village you work your way through his chat options, realizing that becoming his Halmak would be a good idea, and flagging this quest.  Of course to complete it we must battle and defeat the current Halmak!

(2.6.22) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > Become Halmak of the Maracai > Get Rid of Potaka
Getting rid of him really just means defeating him in combat, as once you do that and talk to him that completes both this quest and the sub-quest line making you the Halmak.

(2.6.23) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > Talk to Chaka Datu
Once you complete the process of becoming the Halmak you need to speak with Chaka Datu to begin the Succession Ritual.  Doing do completes this quest.

(2.6.24) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Black Hunter
The first test in the succession requires you to accompany Zaalu to the lair of the Black Hunter, which is a large Panther.  After you get the test from the Chief, return to Zaalu and tell him about it, and he tells you that he knows just where the thing is living, and tells you to quickly follow him.

When you arrive at the Cave he tells you to go in and lure the Panther out; after you do that he kills it, and then you must loot its body and talk to him so that he acquires the Paws, thus completing this quest.

(2.6.25) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > Paws for Zaalu
This sub-quest requires you to assist Zaalu in dealing with the Panther who dwells in the Panther Cave who is called The Black Hunter.  Zaalu must kill it on his own and obtain its Paws to pass this test.

(2.6.26) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > Paws for Zaalu > Follow Zaalu
Follow Zaalu from the Village until he stops and talks to you, completing this sub-quest.

(2.6.27) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > Paws for Zaalu > Follow Zaalu Through the Jungle

(2.6.28) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > Back to the Village with Zaalu

(2.6.29) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Three Questions
When you go to the Chief you learn that the next test is three questions that are designed to test Zaalu's wisdom.  Return to Zaalu to tell him that and he fills you in on the plan behind why he wanted you to be his Halmak.

(2.6.30) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Three Questions > Zaalu's Voodoo Doll
After you obtain a hair from Zaalu you need to use the nearby Voodoo Alter to make a Doll so that you can take control of him so that you can answer the questions to help him pass the test.  Making the doll completes this quest.

(2.6.31) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Three Questions > Take Over Zaalu's Body
Using the doll you made, take over Zaalu, go to the Chief, answer the questions, and then return to Zaalu and switch back to your body to complete this quest.

(2.6.32) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Three Questions > Datu's First Question
The answer to the first question is Darkness.  Once you answer that it completes this sub-quest and flags the next one.

(2.6.33) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Three Questions > Datu's Second Question
The answer to the second question is Time.  Once you answer that it completes this sub-quest and flags the next one.

(2.6.34) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Three Questions > Datu's Third Question
The answer to the third question is Nothing.  Once you answer that it completes this sub-quest.

(2.6.35) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Final Test
The final test is a battle between you and the other contender's Halmak.  Win the battle and you have helped Zaalu to become the Chief!

(2.6.36) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Final Test > Duel with Hakeke's Halmak
All that you are required to do is to talk to Zaalu, then to the other Halmak, Daiki, follow him to the spot near the Alter and beat him in combat.  Once you have done that, talk to him, then to Zaalu, and finally to the Chief to complete this sub-quest.

(2.6.37) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Final Test > Follow Daiki to the Ritual Site
Once you arrive at the Ritual Site that completes this quest.

(2.6.38) Maracai > (2.6.x) Maracai > Chaku Datu's Legacy > The Final Test > Follow Potaka to the Ritual Site
Simply follow him to the spot with the Voodoo Alter after speaking with him!

(2.6.39) Maracai > The Treasure of the Hunting Grounds
Finding this treasure map flags this quest.  Simply go to the red 'X' and dig it up to complete it.

(2.6.40) Maracai > The Treasure in the Panther Cave
On the Small Beach near the cove in which Garcia's pirate ship is anchored you will find a treasure chest with a very large pirate flag near it.  Right beside the chest is a bottle with a message in it and, when you open the message, you will complete the quest Map of Maracai automagically, as well as flag this quest.  To complete this quest all that you need to do is mark it then check the map for the location, and go there.  Find the red 'X' and dig up the chest to obtain

(2.6.41) Maracai > The Treasure on the Pirate Coast

(2.6.42) Maracai > The Treasure in the Hidden Valley
The map for this quest is purchased from Makaika in the Maracai Village.  Go to the red 'X' and dig up the treasure to complete this quest.
