does anyone know if you can get female starting pokemon (eg. torchic, mudkip, treeco) I've tried breeding but I'm not succeeding

Yes, it is possible to get female starters. However, it is unlikely that you will obtain one unless you make an effort to do so.
In the beggining when you save Prof Birch? Yeh, you can get a female starter except their much rarer than a male. Same goes with breeding, hope that the pokemon going to be female, it's all about luck kinda........
Save before you pick a starter. When you pick your starter check the gender. If you get a male, start over until you get female.
Yes but you have to keep restarting the game until you get one.
