I have been to wally's dad to get surf but all he says is "i wonder how our wally is doing?" what am I doing wrong?

You have to travel a lot until mauville and get some more badges he gives or surf evetually at least thats what I think.
You have to beat Norman, THEN visit Wally's dad to get surf
You need to go to mauville, wally and his uncle should be there, and you must battle wally again... Then go back to wallys dad!!
